Abstract
The preparation of optically pure organosilicon compounds bearing a stereogenic center at the silicon atom is an attractive but challenging enterprise. Herein we disclose an isothiourea (ITU)-catalyzed monoacylation reaction of silicon-centered bisphenols with 2,2-diphenylacetic pivalic anhydride, delivering tetrasubstituted organosilanes in moderate to excellent yields (36-91%) with moderate to excellent enantiomeric ratios (68:32-97.5:2.5). This organocatalytic desymmetrization approach can be performed on gram scale, and the products can be converted to other valuable compounds.

Abstract
A highly stereoselective [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction of N,N'-cyclic azomethine imines with aryl acetaldehydes enabled by a chiral N-heterocyclic carbene catalyst is accomplished, giving efficient access to a plethora of enantioenriched N,N'-bicyclic pyrazolidinones featuring aromatic substituents at the C2 position. The current strategy can be directly conducted on a gram scale, and the product could be further reduced to bicyclic pyrazolidine without loss of enantiopurity.

Abstract
An expeditious protocol for the assembly of chiral 4,5-dihydropyridazin-3(2H)-ones from α-chloro hydrazones and α-chloro aliphatic aldehydes via N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalysis is outlined. These in situ-generated 1,2-diaza-1,3-dienes undergo asymmetric [4+2] annulation with NHC-bound enolates to afford the desired products bearing a stereogenic center at the C4 position. The notable features of this approach include good to excellent enantioselectivities, high functional group tolerance, mild reaction conditions, simple operating procedures, and compatibility with gram-scale synthesis.

Abstract
A rational designed tandem reaction of 2-(1-alkynyl)-2-alken-1-ones with 3-aminobenzofurans enabled by a chiral bifunctional catalyst is described, affording biologically significant polycyclic 1,4-dihydropyridines in moderate to good yields (43-82%) with good to excellent enantioselectivities (83-99%). This formal [3 + 3] annulation reaction reveals good practicality when conducted on a gram scale, and the cycloadduct has the capability for further elaborations.

Abstract
The enantioselective intermolecular crossed-benzoin condensation mediated by novel chiral N-heterocyclic carbenes derived from pyroglutamic acid has been investigated. A small library of chiral triazolium ions were synthesised. Each possessed a tertiary alcohol H-bond donor and a variable N-aryl substituent. It was found that increasing both the steric requirement and the electron-withdrawing characteristics of the N-aryl ring led to more chemoselective, efficient and enantioselective chemistry, however both quenching the reaction at different times and deuterium incorporation experiments involving the product revealed that this is complicated by product racemisation in situ (except in the case of benzoin itself), which explains the dependence of enantioselectivity on the electrophilicity of the reacting aldehydes common in the literature. Subsequent protocol optimisation, where one reacting partner was an o-substituted benzaldehyde, allowed a range of crossed-benzoins to be synthesised in moderate-good yields with moderate to excellent enantioselectivity.

Abstract
A metal-free generation of carbanion nucleophiles is of prime importance in organic synthesis. Herein we report a photocatalytic approach to the Corey-Seebach reaction. The presented method operates under mild redox-neutral and base-free conditions giving the desired product with high functional group tolerance. The reaction is enabled by the combination of photo- and hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) catalysis. This catalytic merger allows a C-H to carbanion activation by the abstraction of a hydrogen atom followed by radical reduction. The generated nucleophilic intermediate is then capable of adding to carbonyl electrophiles. The obtained dithiane can be easily converted to the valuable α-hydroxy carbonyl in a subsequent step. The proposed reaction mechanism is supported by emission quenching, radical-radical homocoupling and deuterium labeling studies as well as by calculated redox-potentials and bond strengths.
