Abstract
An innovative nanocatalyst (KCC-1-nPr-Met) has been prepared from the covalent attachment of metformin on the channels and the pores of n-propyl amine functionalized dendritic fibrous nanosilica (DFNS) and used towards efficient, green, and high yield synthesis of tetrahydro-4H-chromenes derivatives by one-pot three-component reaction of aromatic aldehydes, malononitrile, and dimedone in H2 O-EtOH at room temperature. The designed nanocatalyst has been characterized by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and adsorption/desorption analysis (BET) techniques. Also, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was used to study the morphology of prepared nanocatalyst. The engineered nanocatalyst with uniform fibrous spheres has dendritic structure, high pore volume (0.35 cm3 /g), and great surface area (178 m2 /g). Hence, the specific dendritic structure of the prepared nanocatalyst not only improve the diffusion ability of the reactants and products, but also, increase the availability of dynamic sites in the pores and channels of the catalyst. According to the obtained results, a unique strategy was proposed towards the synthesis of important biologically active scaffolds in the presence of nontoxic and environmental friendly nanocatalyst and media. Milder reaction conditions (room temperature), shorter reaction times (5-30 minutes), excellent yields (92%-98%) of the products with higher purity, very simple workup procedure, and using of EtOH: H2 O as a green solvent are the advantages of the presented work.

Abstract
The Sonogashira reaction is a cross-coupling reaction of a vinyl or aryl halide with a terminal alkyne to form a C-C bond. In its original form, the Sonogashira reaction is performed with a palladium species as a catalyst while co-catalyzed by a copper species and a phosphine or amine. The reaction is conducted under mild conditions, i.e., room temperature, aqueous solutions, and the presence of mild bases. Undeniably, the Sonogashira reaction is among the most competent and efficient reactions widely used in organic synthesis. This named reaction has proved useful in many organic synthesis areas, including the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, heterocycles, natural products, organic compounds, complex molecules having biological activities, nanomaterials, and many more materials that we use in our daily lives. The presence of transition metals as a catalyst was indeed essential in the Sonogashira reaction. However, recently, the reaction has been successfully conducted without copper as a co-catalyst and phosphines or amines as bases. In this critical review, we have focused on developments in the Sonogashira reaction successfully performed in the absence of copper complexes, phosphines or amines, which could be of particular advantage in implementing green chemistry principles and making the reactions more achievable from an economic viewpoint.

Abstract
In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in using alcohols as alkylating agents for C-C and C-N bond-forming processes employing mainly TM-catalysts. Although BH-catalysis looks like a green atom economy process since water is the only by-product, it often suffers from one or more drawbacks, such as the use of expensive noble metal complexes, capricious ligands, and toxic organic solvents. Therefore, straightforward, efficient, atom economy and environmentally benign alternative protocols are desirable. This review aims to summarize the current knowledge within the published literature about dehydrative processes developed without TM-catalysts. The most recent contributions to this topic have been reviewed keeping into account the new findings reported in this area. The features, strengths, and limitations of these alcohol-based C-C and C-N bond-forming processes has also been taken into account.

Abstract
A novel microwave-assisted polymerization and self-assembly protocol was developed to prepare ordered mesoporous phenolic resin (MPRN) with nanospherical morphology for the first time. This unique strategy dramatically saved the synthesis time about 2 days with an energy-efficient way. Owing to its abundant phenyl groups in the framework, it was easily transformed to benzenesulfonic acid-functionalized MPRN (SO3H-MPRN) by simple sulfonation treatment. The obtained SO3H-MPRN sample still possessed a large surface area, two-dimensional hexagonal mesoporous structure, and uniform spherical shape. Importantly, because of its intrinsic organic framework, the pore surface of SO3H-MPRN was hydrophobic. Accordingly, it exhibited the excellent catalytic activity and selectivity in aqueous formaldehyde-participated Prins reaction and water-medium Fischer-indole reaction. On the basis of material characterizations and the control experiments, this remarkable catalytic performance could be ascribed to the synergetic effect derived from its short mesoporous channel and hydrophobic pore surface, which resulted in the decreased reactant diffusion limitation and the reduced water competitive adsorption. Also, it was stable in water because of the periodically arranged acid species in the resin framework and thus was easily recycled and used repetitively for at least five times.

Abstract
The effects solvents have on fluoride-promoted heterogeneous hydrolysis and alcoholysis of various organo-phosphorus (OP) compounds on the surface of KF/Al2O3 are described. Solid-state magic angle spinning NMR analyses and SEM microscopy have shown that not only is the identity of the solvent important in these reactions but also its quantity. That is, minimal solvent amounts are favored and much more effective in such solid-supported reactions (and maybe generally) than those featuring solvent-free or excess solvent (>50 wt %) conditions. The addition of a minute quantity of the correct solvent (3-10 wt %, molar equivalent scale) avoids reagents leaching from the matrix, permits mobility (mass transport) of the reaction components and ensures their very high local concentration in close proximity to the solid-support large porous surface area. Accordingly, significant acceleration of reactions rates by orders of magnitude is obtained. Fascinatingly, even challenging phosphoesters with poor leaving groups, which were found to be very stable in the presence of solvent-free KF/Al2O3 or wetted with excess water, were efficiently hydrolyzed with a minute amount of this solvent.

Abstract
Optimised geometrical structural parameters, harmonic vibrational frequencies, natural bonding orbital analysis and frontier molecular orbitals are determined by B3LYP and B3PW91 methods. The exact geometry of 5-chloro-1-methyl-4-nitroimidazole is determined through conformational analysis. The experimentally observed infrared and Raman bands have been assigned and analysed. The (13)C and (1)H NMR chemical shifts of the compound are investigated. The total electron density and molecular electrostatic potentials are determined. The electrostatic potential (electron+nuclei) distribution, molecular shape, size and dipole moments of the molecule have been displayed. The energies of the frontier molecular orbitals and LUMO-HOMO energy gap are measured. The possible electronic transitions of the molecule are studied by TD-DFT method along with the UV-Visible spectrum. The structure-activity relationship of the compound is also investigated by conceptual DFT methods.

Reactivity mapping with electrochemical gradients for monitoring reactivity at surfaces in space and time. Nat Commun 2013; 4:1667. Abstract
Studying and controlling reactions at surfaces is of great fundamental and applied interest in, among others, biology, electronics and catalysis. Because reaction kinetics is different at surfaces compared with solution, frequently, solution-characterization techniques cannot be used. Here we report solution gradients, prepared by electrochemical means, for controlling and monitoring reactivity at surfaces in space and time. As a proof of principle, electrochemically derived gradients of a reaction parameter (pH) and of a catalyst (Cu(I)) have been employed to make surface gradients on the micron scale and to study the kinetics of the (surface-confined) imine hydrolysis and the copper(I)-catalysed azide-alkyne 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition, respectively. For both systems, the kinetic data were spatially visualized in a two-dimensional reactivity map. In the case of the copper(I)-catalysed azide-alkyne 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition, the reaction order (2) was deduced from it.

Abstract
The traditional Biginelli reaction is a three-component condensation between urea, benzaldehyde and an acetoacetate ester to give a dihydropyrimidinone. An investigation into catalytic and solvent effects has returned the conclusion that the diketo-enol tautomerisation equilibrium of the dicarbonyl reactant dictates the yield of the reaction. Whereas the solvent is responsible for the tautomerisation equilibrium position, the catalyst only serves to eliminate kinetic control from the reaction. Generally, to preserve reaction efficiency and improve sustainability, bio-derivable p-cymene was found to be a useful solvent. The metal-enolate intermediate that results from the application of a Lewis acidic catalyst often cited as promoting the reaction appears to hinder the reaction. In this instance, a Brønsted acidic solvent can be used to return greater reactivity to the dicarbonyl reagent.

Abstract
A magnetite-loaded mesocellular carbonaceous material, Fe(3)O(4)/MSU-F-C, exhibited superior activity as both a Fenton catalyst and an adsorbent for removal of phenol and arsenic, and strong magnetic property rendering it separable by simply applying magnetic field. In the presence of hydrogen peroxide, the catalytic process by Fe(3)O(4)/MSU-F-C completely oxidized phenol and As(III) under the conditions where commercial iron oxides showed negligible effects. Notably, the decomposition of H(2)O(2) by Fe(3)O(4)/MSU-F-C was not faster than those by commercial iron oxides, indicating that hydroxyl radical produced via the catalytic process by Fe(3)O(4)/MSU-F-C was used more efficiently for the oxidation of target contaminants compared to the other iron oxides. The homogeneous Fenton reaction by the dissolved iron species eluted from Fe(3)O(4)/MSU-F-C was insignificant. At relatively high doses of Fe(3)O(4)/MSU-F-C, total concentration of arsenic decreased to a significant extent due to the adsorption of arsenic on the catalyst surface. The removal of arsenic by adsorption was found to proceed via preoxidation of As(III) into As(V) and the subsequent adsorption of As(V) onto the catalyst.
