Abstract
Late-stage functionalization (LSF) constitutes a powerful strategy for the assembly or diversification of novel molecular entities with improved physicochemical or biological activities. LSF can thus greatly accelerate the development of medicinally relevant compounds, crop protecting agents, and functional materials. Electrochemical molecular synthesis has emerged as an environmentally friendly platform for the transformation of organic compounds. Over the past decade, electrochemical late-stage functionalization (eLSF) has gained major momentum, which is summarized herein up to February 2023.

Abstract
This work describes an effective C3-H halogenation of quinoline-4(1H)-ones under electrochemical conditions, in which potassium halides serve as both halogenating agents and electrolytes. The protocol provides expedient access to different halogenated quinoline-4(1H)-ones with unique regioselectivity, broad substrate scope, and gram-scale synthesis employing convenient, environmentally friendly electrolysis, in an undivided cell. Mechanism studies have shown that halogen radicals can promote the activation of N-H bonds in quinolones.

Abstract
Here, we report a tunable electrochemical benzylic C-H functionalization of (thio)xanthenes with terminal alkynes and nitriles in the absence of any catalyst or external chemical oxidant. The benzylic C-H functionalization can be well controlled by varying the electrochemical conditions, affording the specific coupling products via C-C and C-N bond formation.

Abstract
An unprecedented electrochemical cross-dehydrogenative coupling reaction between isochroman and unactivated ketones to directly synthesize α-substituted isochromans has been developed. This strategy provides a facile and efficient procedure to the direct activation of C(sp3)-H bond adjacent to the O atom of isochroman. The method features high atom economy, chemical oxidant-free, and mild conditions, in which methanesulfonic acid (MsOH) acts as both electrolyte and catalyst, making the process more convenient and environmentally friendly. Gram-scale experiment and synthesis of antitumor active compounds demonstrate the great potential of this protocol for practical applications.

Abstract
We report the challenging direct carbamoylation or cyanation of benzylic C(sp3)-H bonds with an isocyanide via an electrochemical process giving rise to structures that are encountered in several biologically relevant compounds and drugs. This transformation proceeds under mild conditions without the need for any external oxidant and avoids the necessity to start from a prefunctionalized benzylic substrate or the deployment of the cation pool method. The anodic oxidation of the benzylic position and the subsequent addition of the isocyanide lead to the formation of a C-C bond and to a nitrilium cation that hydrolyzes to yield α-aryl acetamide derivatives, whereas the elimination of a t-butyl cation delivers α-aryl acetonitrile derivatives.

Abstract
Tertiary phosphines(iii) find widespread use in many aspects of synthetic organic chemistry. Herein, we developed a facile and novel electrochemical oxidative N-H/P-H cross-coupling method, leading to a series of expected tertiary phosphines(iii) under mild conditions with excellent yields. It is worth noting that this electrochemical protocol features very good reaction selectivity, where only a 1 : 1 ratio of amine and phosphine was required in the reaction. Moreover, this electrochemical protocol proved to be practical and scalable. Mechanistic insights suggested that the P radical was involved in this reaction.

Abstract
An electrochemical cross-dehydrogenative coupling of indoles with xanthenes has been established at room temperature. This coupling reaction could proceed in the absence of any catalyst or external oxidant, and generate the indole derivatives in moderate yields. Mechanistic experiments support that a radical pathway maybe involved in this reaction system.

Abstract
Tunable electrocatalytic annulation reactions of o-arylalkynylanilines have been established, leading to green and divergent syntheses of skeletally diverse indoles by adjusting the electrolytes and the solvents. The presence of ammonium halides as the electrolytes enabled the halogenation of o-arylalkynylanilines to give C3-halogenated indoles whereas naphtho[1',2':4,5]furo[3,2-b]indoles could be obtained by changing the electrolyte from ammonium halides to KI. Interestingly, by combining acetone as the solvent and both NH4I and NH4Cl as the electrolytes, the reaction worked through an intramolecular annulation and [5 + 1] cyclization cascade to form naphtho[1',2':5,6][1,3]oxazino[3,4-a]indoles.

Abstract
Herein, we report an efficient electrochemical method for the synthesis of N-alkylated sulfoximines by electrochemical oxidative C(sp3)-H/N-H coupling of sulfoximines and diarylmethanes. In addition, we used the same conditions for electrochemical dehydrogenative amination of diarylmethanes with benzophenone imine as an aminating agent. The reactions showed good functional group tolerance and afforded the corresponding products in moderate to good yields without the use of a stoichiometric oxidant, a metal catalyst, or an activating agent.

Abstract
Oxidative cross-coupling has developed into a robust method for carbon-carbon (C-C), carbon-heteroatom (C-X), and heteroatom-heteroatom (X-Y) bond formation. Despite considerable advances in this field, the traditional oxidative cross-coupling reactions usually employ stoichiometric amounts of chemical oxidants to clean up surplus electrons from substrates to form new chemical bonds. Organic electrosynthesis is recognized as an environmentally benign and particularly powerful synthetic platform. Recent advancements have revealed that radical-involved electrochemical oxidative cross-coupling reactions can be achieved under exogenous-oxidant-free conditions. This tutorial review provides an overview of the most recent developments in electrochemical oxidative cross-coupling with hydrogen evolution involving radicals. Emphasis is mainly placed on synthetic and mechanistic aspects. We hope that this tutorial review can promote the development of radical chemistry, electrochemistry, and oxidative cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract
A radical cascade reaction of 2-aryloxy phenylacetylenes with phosphine oxides promoted by K2S2O8 was developed, which provided diphosphonyl xanthenes as products. This reaction proceeds under transition metal-free and mild conditions with simple operation and good yields. The mechanistic study indicated that phosphine oxide was induced into a phosphonyl radical, and then the following double radical addition/cyclization with 2-aryloxy phenylacetylenes generated bisphosphonyl xanthenes.

Abstract
During the last decade several research groups have been developing electrochemical procedures to access highly functionalized organic molecules. Among the most exciting advances, the possibility of using free radical chemistry has attracted the attention of the most important synthetic groups. Nowadays, electrochemical strategies based on these species with a synthetic purpose are published continuously in scientific journals, increasing the alternatives for the synthetic organic chemistry laboratories. Free radicals can be obtained in organic electrochemical reactions; thus, this review reassembles the last decade's (2010-2020) efforts of the electrosynthetic community to generate and take advantage of the C-, O-, and N-centered radicals' reactivity. The electrochemical reactions that occur, as well as the proposed mechanism, are discussed, trying to give clear information about the used conditions and reactivity of these reactive intermediate species.
