Enhanced visible-light photocatalytic activity of perylene diimide (PDI) supramolecular nanorods with Pt QDs deposited in situ

Stability and Crystallinity of Sodium Poly(Heptazine Imide) in Photocatalysis

Poly(heptazine imide) (PHI) salts, as crystalline carbon nitrides, exhibit high photocatalytic activity and are being extensively researched, but its photochemical instability has not drawn researchers' attention yet. Herein, sodium PHI (PHI-Na) ultrathin nanosheets with increased crystallinity, synthesized by enhancing contact of melamine with NaCl functioning as a structure-induction agent and hard template, exhibits improved photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activity, but low photochemical stability, owing to Na+ loss in the photocatalytic process, which, interestingly, can be enhanced by the common ion effect, e.g., addition of NaCl that is also able to remarkably increase the photoactivity with the apparent quantum yield at 420 nm reaching 41.5 %. This work aims at attracting research peers' attention to photochemical instability of PHI salts and provides a way to enhance their crystallinity.

Perylene diimide/iron phthalocyanine Z-scheme heterojunction with strong interfacial charge transfer through π-π interaction: Efficient photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride

The development of an all-organic Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst with the matched band structure, efficient electron transfer and excellent photocatalytic performance is valuable for a sustainable future. A novel perylene diimide/phthalocyanine iron (PDI/FePc) heterojunctions with strong π-π interaction were synthesized by a self-assembled method, which exhibited strong visible-light-driven photocatalytic degradation activities of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC). The TC removal rate over PDI/FePc was achieved three times and 87.5 times higher than that of PDI and FePc. PDI/FePc (131.1 mv·dec^-1) presented a lower Taffel slope than that of PDI (228.6 mv·dec^-1) for the oxidation. This may be due to the strong π-π interactions between PDI and FePc, which can reduce the layer spacing of the supramolecular structure and facilitate the separation and transfer of photogenerated carriers in the built-in electric field. In addition, radical quenching tests revealed that superoxide radicals (•O₂^-) acted as a dominant role in photocatalytic oxidation. An increscent specific surface area of PDI decorated by FePc also gave the rapid pathway for charge transfer and enhanced the adsorption ability. This provides a new idea for the formation of heterojunction to improve the photocatalytic activity of organic supramolecular materials.

Synergic fabrication of pembrolizumab loaded doxorubicin incorporating microbubbles delivery for ultrasound contrast agents mediated anti-proliferation and apoptosis

This study evaluated pembrolizumab-conjugated, doxorubicin (DOX)-loaded microbubbles (PDMs) in combination with ultrasound (US) as molecular imaging agents for early diagnosis of B cell lymphomas, and as a targeted drug delivery system. Pembrolizumab, a monoclonal CD20 antibody, was attached to the surfaces of DOX-loaded microbubbles. PDM binding to B cell lymphoma cells was assessed using immunofluorescence. The cytotoxic effects of PDMs in combination with ultrasound (PDMs + US) were evaluated in vitro in CD20+ and CD20- cell lines, and its antitumor activities were assessed in Raji (CD20+) and Jurkat (CD20-) lymphoma cell-grafted mice. PDMs specifically bound to CD20+ cells in vitro and in vivo. Contrast enhancement was monitored in vivo via US. PDM peak intensities and contrast enhancement durations were higher in Raji than in Jurkat cell-grafted mice (p < 0.05). PDMs + US treatment resulted in improved antitumor effects and reduced systemic toxicity in Raji cell-grafted mice compared with other treatments (p < .05). Our results showed that PDMs + US enhanced tumor targeting, reduced systemic toxicity, and inhibited CD20+ B cell lymphoma growth in vivo. Targeted PDMs could be employed as US molecular imaging agents for early diagnosis, and are an effective targeted drug delivery system in combination with US for CD20+ B cell malignancy treatment.

Crystalline Covalent Organic Frameworks with Tailored Linkages for Photocatalytic H2 Evolution

Crystalline covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are porous polymeric semiconductors with network topologies, which are built from the integration of selected organic blocks with covalent bond linkages. They have shown great promise for artificial photosynthesis, owing to broad light harvesting, high crystallinity, and high carrier mobility. This Minireview introduces state-of-the-art COF photocatalysts based on different linkages and discusses the origin of photocatalytic activities for hydrogen evolution. Three typical COF photocatalysts, with linkages including imine (-C=N-), β-ketoenamine (O=C-C=C-NH-), and vinylene (-C=C-), are discussed with a particular focus on the advancements in synthetic methodologies and structural design, as well as photoelectronic properties that are relevant to photocatalytic performance. The Minireview is expected to elucidate their structure-property relationships and the way to design photoactive COFs with enhanced performances.
