Abstract
The catalytic dehydrogenation of light alkanes is key to transform low-cost hydrocarbons to high value-added chemicals. Although Pt is extremely efficient at catalyzing this reaction, it suffers from coke formation that deactivates the catalyst. Dopants such as Sn are widely used to increase the stability and lifetime of Pt. In this work, the dehydrogenation reaction of ethane catalyzed by Pt3 and Pt2X (X=Si, Ge, Sn, P and Al) nanocatalysts has been studied computationally by means of density functional calculations. Our results show how the presence of dopants in the nanocluster structure affects its electronic properties and catalytic activity. Exploration of the potential energy surfaces show that non-doped catalyst Pt3 present low selectivity towards ethylene formation, where acetylene resulting from double dehydrogenation reaction will be obtained as a side product (in agreement with the experimental evidence). On the contrary, the inclusion of Si, Ge, Sn, P or Al as dopant agents implies a selectivity enhancement, where acetylene formation is not energetically favoured. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of such dopant elements for the design of Pt-based catalysts on ethane dehydrogenation.

Abstract
Propane dehydrogenation is an important industrial reaction to access propene, the world's second most used polymer precursor. Catalysts for this transformation are required to be long living at high temperature and robust toward harsh oxidative regeneration conditions. In this work, combining surface organometallic chemistry and thermolytic molecular precursor approach, we prepared well-defined silica-supported Pt and alloyed PtZn materials to investigate the effect of Ti-doping on catalytic performances. Chemisorption experiments and density functional calculations reveal a significant change in the electronic structure of the nanoparticles (NPs) due to the Ti-doping. Evaluation of the resulting materials PtZn/SiO2 and PtZnTi/SiO2 during long deactivation phases reveal a stabilizing effect of Ti in PtZnTi/SiO2 with a kd of 0.015 h-1 compared to PtZn/SiO2 with a kd of 0.022 h-1 over 108 h on stream. Such a stabilizing effect is also present during a second deactivation phase after applying a regeneration protocol to the materials under O2 and H2 at high temperatures. A combined scanning transmission electron microscopy, in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance, and density functional theory study reveals that this effect is related to a sintering prevention of the alloyed PtZn NPs in PtZnTi/SiO2 due to a strong interaction of the NPs with Ti sites. However, in contrast to classical strong metal-support interaction, we show that the coverage of the Pt NPs with TiOx species is not needed to explain the changes in adsorption and reactivity properties. Indeed, the interaction of the Pt NPs with TiIII sites is enough to decrease CO adsorption and to induce a red-shift of the CO band because of electron transfer from the TiIII sites to Pt0.

Abstract
The selective dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons and their functionalized derivatives is a promising pathway in the realization of endothermic fuel systems for powering important technologies such as hypersonic aircraft. The recent surge in interest in single atom catalysts (SACs) over the past decade offers the opportunity to achieve the ultimate levels of selectivity through the subnanoscale design tailoring of novel catalysts. Experimental techniques capable of investigating the fundamental nature of the active sites of novel SACs in well-controlled model studies offer the chance to reveal promising insights. We report here an approach to accomplish this through the soft landing of mass-selected, ultrasmall metal oxide cluster ions, in which a single noble metal atom bound to a metal oxide moiety serves as a model SAC active site. This method allows the preparation of model catalysts in which monodispersed neutral SAC model active sites are decorated across an inert electrically conductive support at submonolayer surface coverage, in this case, Pt1Zr2O7 clusters supported on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG). The results contained herein show the characterization of the Pt1Zr2O7/HOPG model catalyst by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), along with an investigation of its reactivity toward the functionalized hydrocarbon molecule, 1-propanamine. Through temperature-programmed desorption/reaction (TPD/R) experiments it was shown that Pt1Zr2O7/HOPG decomposes 1-propanamine exclusively into propionitrile and H2, which desorb at 425 and 550 K, respectively. Conversely, clusters without the single platinum atom, that is, Zr2O7/HOPG, exhibited no reactivity toward 1-propanamine. Hence, the single platinum atom in Pt1Zr2O7/HOPG was found to play a critical role in the observed reactivity.

Abstract
Alloying has long been used as a promising methodology to improve the catalytic performance of metallic materials. In recent years, the field of alloy catalysis has made remarkable progress with the emergence of a variety of novel alloy materials and their functions. Therefore, a comprehensive disciplinary framework for catalytic chemistry of alloys that provides a cross-sectional understanding of the broad research field is in high demand. In this review, we provide a comprehensive classification of various alloy materials based on metallurgy, thermodynamics, and inorganic chemistry and summarize the roles of alloying in catalysis and its principles with a brief introduction of the historical background of this research field. Furthermore, we explain how each type of alloy can be used as a catalyst material and how to design a functional catalyst for the target reaction by introducing representative case studies. This review includes two approaches, namely, from materials and reactions, to provide a better understanding of the catalytic chemistry of alloys. Our review offers a perspective on this research field and can be used encyclopedically according to the readers' individual interests.

Abstract
Propane dehydrogenation has been a promising propylene production process that can compensate for the increasing global demand for propylene. However, Pt-based catalysts with high stability at ≥600 °C have barely been reported because the catalysts typically result in short catalyst life owing to side reactions and coke formation. Herein, we report a new class of heterogeneous catalysts using high-entropy intermetallics (HEIs). Pt-Pt ensembles, which cause side reactions, are entirely diluted by the component inert metals in PtGe-type HEIs. The resultant HEI (PtCoCu) (GeGeSn)/Ca-SiO2 exhibited an outstandingly high catalytic stability, even at 600 °C (kd-1 = τ = 4146 h = 173 d), and almost no deactivation of the catalyst was observed for 2 months for the first time. Detailed experimental studies and theoretical calculations demonstrated that the combination of the site-isolation and entropy effects upon multi-metallization of PtGe drastically enhanced the desorption of propylene and the thermal stability, eventually suppressing the side reactions even at high reaction temperatures.

Abstract
Kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) simulations in combination with first-principles (1p)-based calculations are rapidly becoming the gold-standard computational framework for bridging the gap between the wide range of length scales and time scales over which heterogeneous catalysis unfolds. 1p-KMC simulations provide accurate insights into reactions over surfaces, a vital step toward the rational design of novel catalysts. In this Perspective, we briefly outline basic principles, computational challenges, successful applications, as well as future directions and opportunities of this promising and ever more popular kinetic modeling approach.

Abstract
Propane dehydrogenation has been a promising method for producing propylene that has the potentials to meet the increasing global demand for propylene. However, owing to the restricted equilibrium conversion caused by the high endothermicity, even the Pt-based catalysts, which exhibit high activity and selectivity, severely suffer significantly from coke formation and/or nanoparticle sintering at realistic reaction temperatures, resulting in a short catalyst lifetime. As a result, few innovative catalysts in terms of catalytic activity, selectivity, and stability, have been produced. In this Review, we focus on the characteristics of single-atom-like Pt sites for PDH and attempt to provide suggestions for developing highly efficient catalysts. First, we briefly describe the fundamental strategies. Following that, the remarkable catalysis is addressed by three different distinct sorts of state-of-the-art single-atom-like Pt catalysts are discussed. Additionally, we present other promising catalyst design approaches that are not based on single-atom-like Pt catalysts, as well as future research challenges in this field.

Abstract
Zeolites possessing large specific surface areas, ordered micropores, and adjustable acidity/basicity have emerged as ideal supports to immobilize metal species with small sizes and high dispersities. In recent years, the zeolite-supported metal catalysts have been widely used in diverse catalytic processes, showing excellent activity, superior thermal/hydrothermal stability, and unique shape-selectivity. In this review, a comprehensive summary of the state-of-the-art achievements in catalytic applications of zeolite-supported metal catalysts are presented for important heterogeneous catalytic processes in the last five years, mainly including 1) the hydrogenation reactions (e.g., CO/CO2 hydrogenation, hydrogenation of unsaturated compounds, and hydrogenation of nitrogenous compounds); 2) dehydrogenation reactions (e.g., alkane dehydrogenation and dehydrogenation of chemical hydrogen storage materials); 3) oxidation reactions (e.g., CO oxidation, methane oxidation, and alkene epoxidation); and 4) other reactions (e.g., hydroisomerization reaction and selective catalytic reduction of NOx with ammonia reaction). Finally, some current limitations and future perspectives on the challenge and opportunity for this subject are pointed out. It is believed that this review will inspire more innovative research on the synthesis and catalysis of zeolite-supported metal catalysts and promote their future developments to meet the emerging demands for practical applications.
