Abstract
Establishing a rapid and accurate method for monitoring the freshness of aquatic products is of great importance. Hypoxanthine has been considered an essential indicator of aquatic products' freshness. Here, a novel smartphone colorimetric / inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) / photothermal three-mode sensing strategy was established for monitoring hypoxanthine. Hypoxanthine can be catalyzed by xanthine oxidase to H2O2 and uric acid, which can simultaneously degrade MnO2 nanosheets (NSs) to Mn2+. After filter-assisted separation, the smartphone and ICP-MS were performed by monitoring the color of the membrane and the Mn2+ in the filtrate. Additionally, MnO2 NSs can facilitate the oxidation of dopamine to form polydopamine nanoparticles, which exhibit strong photothermal efficiency. The approach successfully monitored the deterioration of aquatic products under various storage conditions through portable thermometers and smartphones with low limits of detection (LODs), providing a potential application for in-situ evaluation of the freshness of aquatic products.

Abstract
The development of facile, low-cost reliable, and precise onsite assays for the bioactive component hypoxanthine (Hx) in meat products is significant for safeguarding food safety and public health. Herein, we proposed a smartphone-assissted aggregation-induced emission (AIE) fluorogen tetraphenylethene (TPE)-incorporated amorphous Fe-doped phosphotungstates (Fe-Phos@TPE) nanozyme-based ratiometric fluorescence-colorimetric dual-mode biosensor for achieving the onsite visual detection of Hx. When the Hx existed, xanthine oxidase (XOD) catalyzed Hx into H2O2 to be further catalyzed into •OH by the prominent peroxidase activity of Fe-Phos@TPE at pH = 6.5, resulting in the oxidization of nonfluorescent o-phenylenediamine (OPD, naked-eye colorless) to be yellow fluorescent emissive 2,3-diaminophenazine (DAP, naked-eye dark yellow) at 550 nm as well as the intrinsic blue fluorescence of Fe-Phos@TPE at 440 nm to be decreased via inner-filter effect (IFE) action, thereby realizing a multi-enzyme cascade catalytic reaction at near-neutral pH to overcome the traditional acidity dependence-induced time-consuming and low sensitivity troublesome.

Abstract
This study investigates the possibility of utilizing drip as a non-destructive method for assessing the freshness and spoilage of chicken meat. The quality parameters [pH, volatile base nitrogen (VBN), and total aerobic bacterial counts (TAB)] of chicken meat were evaluated over a 13-day storage period in vacuum packaging at 4 °C. Simultaneously, the metabolites in the chicken meat and its drip were measured by nuclear magnetic resonance. Correlation (Pearson's and Spearman's rank) and pathway analyses were conducted to select the metabolites for model training. Binary logistic regression (model 1 and model 2) and multiple linear regression models (model 3-1 and model 3-2) were trained using selected metabolites, and their performance was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. As a result, the chicken meat was spoiled after 7 days of storage, exceeding 20 mg/100 g VBN and 5.7 log CFU/g TAB. The correlation analysis identified one organic acid, eight free amino acids, and five nucleic acids as highly correlated with chicken meat and its drip during storage. Pathway analysis revealed tyrosine and purine metabolism as metabolic pathways highly correlated with spoilage. Based on these findings, specific metabolites were selected for model training: ATP, glutamine, hypoxanthine, IMP, tyrosine, and tyramine. To predict the freshness and spoilage of chicken meat, model 1, trained using tyramine, ATP, tyrosine, and IMP from chicken meat, achieved a 99.9 % accuracy and had an ROC value of 0.884 when validated using drip metabolites. This model 1 was improved by training with tyramine and IMP from both chicken meat and its drip (model 2), which increased the ROC value for drip metabolites from 0.884 to 0.997. Finally, selected two metabolites (tyramine and IMP) can predict TAB and VBN quantitatively through models 3-1 and 3-2, respectively. Therefore, the model developed using metabolic changes in drip demonstrated the capability to non-destructively predict the freshness and spoilage of chicken meat at 4 °C. To make generic predictions, it is necessary to expand the model's applicability to various conditions, such as different temperatures, and validate its performance across multiple chicken batches.

Abstract
It is important to develop rapid, accurate, and portable technologies for detecting the freshness of chilled meat to meet the current demands of meat industry. This report introduces freshness indicators for monitoring the freshness changes of chilled meat, and systematically analyzes the current status of existing detection technologies which focus on the feasibility of using nanozyme for meat freshness sensing detection. Furthermore, it examines the limitations and foresees the future development trends of utilizing current nanozyme sensing systems in evaluating chilled meat freshness. Harmful chemicals are produced by food spoilage degradation, including biogenic amines, volatile amines, hydrogen sulfide, and xanthine, which have become new freshness indicators to evaluate the freshness of chilled meat. The recognition mechanisms are clarified based on the special chemical reaction with nanozyme or directly inducting the enzyme-like catalytic activity of nanozyme.

Abstract
During the transportation and storage of food, foodborne spoilage caused by bacterial and biofilm infection is prone to occur, leading to issues such as short shelf life, economic loss, and sensory quality instability. Therefore, the development of novel and efficient antibacterial agents capable of efficiently inhibiting bacteria throughout various stages of food processing, transportation, and storage is strongly recommended by researchers. The emergence of nanozymes is considered to be an effective candidate for inhibiting foodborne bacteria agents in the food industry. As potent antibacterial agents, nanozymes have the advantages of low cost, high stability, strong broad-spectrum antibacterial ability, and biocompatibility. Herein, we aim to summarize the classification status of various nanozymes. Furthermore, the general catalytic bacteriostatic mechanism of nanozymes against intracellular bacteria, planktonic bacteria, and biofilm activities are highlighted, mainly concerning the destruction of cell walls and/or membranes, reactive oxygen species regulation, HOBr/Cl generation, damage of intracellular components, and so forth. In particular, the review focuses on the pivotal role of nanozymes as antibacterial agents and delivery vehicles in the fields of food preservation applications. We look forward to the future prospects, especially in the field of food preservation, to promote broader applications based on antimicrobial nanozymes.

Abstract
Due to the typical volatility of gaseous pollutant methyl mercaptan (CH3SH), the development of a facile, reliable, and accurate onsite environmental surveillance of highly toxic CH3SH faces many challenges, but it is critical to environmental atmosphere assessment and safeguarding public health. Here, we prepared a novel bimetallic carbon dots (Fe&Cu@CDs) nanozyme with high peroxidase-mimicking activity to design a portable hydrogel kit for onsite visual H2O2-self-supplying enzymatic cascade catalytic colorimetric and photothermal signal synergistic amplification dual-modal monitoring of CH3SH in atmospheric environment. Assisted by alcohol oxidase (AOX), CH3SH could be specifically converted into H2O2 for oxidizing chromogenic substrate 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) catalyzed by Fe&Cu@CDs to produce dark blue ox-TMB with absorption at 652 nm and photothermal characters. Consequently, a CH3SH concentration-dependent change both in naked-eye color and photothermal effect-triggered temperature were observed. By hybridizing AOX-assisted Fe&Cu@CDs + TMB with agarose, a H2O2-self-supplying colorimetric and photothermal signal synergistic amplification sensory hydrogel kit integrated with Color Picker APP-installed smartphone and 660 nm laser-equipped handheld thermal imager for CH3SH was proposed with acceptable results in atmospheric environment around wastepile (e.g., solid waste and food waste piles), which exhibited great potentials to further develop commercial onsite monitoring platforms in warning-early abnormal atmospheric CH3SH for safeguarding environmental health.

Abstract
Various water pollution issues pose a significant threat to human water safety. Magnetic polydopamine composites (MPCs), which can be separated by magnetic fields after the adsorption process, exhibit outstanding adsorption capacity and heterogeneous catalytic properties, making them promising materials for water treatment applications. In particular, by modifying the polydopamine (PDA) coating, MPCs can acquire enhanced high reactivity, antibacterial properties, and biocompatibility. This also provides an attractive platform for further fabrication of hybrid materials with specific adsorption, catalytic, antibacterial, and water-oil separation capabilities. To systematically provide the background knowledge and recent research advances in MPCs, this paper presents a critical review of MPCs for water treatment in terms of both structure and mechanisms of effect in applications. Firstly, the impact of different PDA positions within the composite structure is investigated to summarize the optimization of properties contributed by PDA when acting as the shell, core, or bridge. The roles of various secondary modifications of magnetic materials by PDA in addressing water pollution problems are explored. It is anticipated that this work will be a stimulus for further research and development of magnetic composite materials with real-world application potential.

Abstract
Two dimensional iron metal-organic framework nanosheet (2D Fe MOF) was facilely synthesized at room temperature by simple stirring of iron salts and terephthalic acid ligand in a mixed solution containing triethylamine. Its morphology and structure were fully characterized by TEM, AFM, XPS and TEM element mapping. Then, its peroxidase-mimicking activity was studied by using H2O2 and 3, 3', 5, 5'- tetramethylbenzidine as substrate. Km and Vmax of 2D Fe MOF towards H2O2 were 0.02 mM and 2.08 × 10-8 M s-1, respectively. Through the formation of cascade reaction between xanthine oxidase and 2D Fe MOF, a visual method for hypoxanthine (Hx) detection was constructed to evaluate aquatic products freshness. After effective validation, this method presented wide linear range (5.0-500.0 μM), low limit of detection (3.29 μM), satisfied accuracy (recovery of 94.78-99.85%), and good selectivity. By using this method, Hx content in shrimp samples at different storage time were determined.

Abstract
Carbendazim (CBZ) is a widely used pesticides, and its excessive intake is serious damage to humans and animals. Herein, a stable and sensitive colorimetric aptasensor for rapid detection of CBZ residue has been established based on the enhancement of CBZ-specific aptamer (CZ-13) on oxidase-mimicking activity of octahedral Ag2O nanoparticles (NPs). The CZ-13 aptamer can significantly increase the catalytic activity by promoting the production of superoxide anion (·O2-) on the surface of Ag2O NPs and enhancing the affinity of octahedral Ag2O NPs to 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) molecules. In the presence of CBZ, the quantity of CZ-13 aptamer will be exhausted due to the specific binding to CBZ pesticide. Thus, the rest CZ-13 aptamer no longer enhanced the catalytic activity of octahedral Ag2O NPs, which leads to the change in color of sensing solution. The color change of sensing solution can be easily converted to the corresponding RGB value by a smartphone for quantitative and rapid detection of CBZ. The designed aptasensor has excellent sensitivity and specificity, and the limit of detection was determined as low as 7.35 μg L-1 for CBZ assay. Besides, the aptasensor exhibited good recoveries in the spiked cabbage, apple and cucumber, showing that it may have broad application prospects for detecting CBZ residues in agriculture products.

Abstract
Foodborne pathogens are a primary cause of human foodborne illness, making it imperative to explore novel antibacterial strategies for their control. In this study, Fe-γ-CD was successfully synthesized as a food antibacterial agent for use in milk and orange juice. The Fe-γ-CD consists of 6/11 Fe(II) and 5/11 Fe(III), which catalyze a Fenton-like catalytic reaction with H2O2 to generate •OH. Consequently, Fe-γ-CD exhibits exceptional peroxidase-like activity and broad-spectrum antibacterial efficacy. Fe-γ-CD not only disrupts the wall structure of ESBL-E. coli but also induces protein leakage and genetic destruction, ultimately leading to its death. Furthermore, Fe-γ-CD inhibits biofilm formation by MRSA and eradicates mature biofilms, resulting in MRSA's demise. Importantly, Fe-γ-CD demonstrates negligible cytotoxicity toward normal mammalian cells, making it an ideal candidate for application as an antibacterial agent in foodstuffs. These findings highlight that Fe-γ-CD is an effective tool for combating the spread of foodborne pathogens and food safety.

Abstract
Considering the enormous demand for meat in people's daily lives, the development of efficient meat freshness assays is of great significance for safeguarding food safety. Here, a novel bimetallic nanozyme Fe@CeO2 with high peroxidase-like activity was first synthesized by embedding ferrocenecarboxylic acid (Fc) into hollow CeO2 nanospheres, which combined with xanthine oxidase (XOD) to develop a self-supplying H2O2-facilitated enzymatic cascade catalytic system of XOD + Fe@CeO2, yielding a meat freshness indicator hypoxanthine (Hx)-responsive colorimetric and photothermal dual-mode analytical platform for judging meat freshness upon the assistance of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). Owing to the catalytic activity of XOD to convert Hx into H2O2, Fe@CeO2 rapidly dissociated it into •OH via a peroxidase activity-triggered Fenton-like reaction, emerging a typical enzymatic cascade catalytic reaction. As a result, the colorless TMB was oxidized to be the product of dark-blue oxTMB by •OH, with a chromogenic reaction-driven absorption enhancement at 652 nm, which endowed it with a significant photothermal effect under 660 nm laser irradiation. On this basis, an Hx concentration-dependent colorimetric and photothermal dual-mode signal cascade catalytic enhancement sensing platform was proposed by integrating with a Color Picker App-installed smartphone and a 660 nm laser-equipped handheld thermal imager, achieving the onsite quantitative, reliable, and visual detection of Hx in real meat samples for judging meat freshness with acceptable results. Notably, the colorimetric and photothermal dual-mode signal cascade catalytic enhancement improved not only the reliability but also the sensitivity of the assay, which provided new insights for efficient onsite visual monitoring of meat freshness to safeguard food safety.

Abstract
Healing bacterial chronic wounds caused by hyperglycemia is of great significance to protect the physical and mental health of diabetic patients. In this context, emerging chemodynamic therapy (CDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT) with broad antibacterial spectra and high spatiotemporal controllability have flourished. However, CDT was challenged by the near-neutral pH and inadequate H2O2 surrounding the chronic wound site, while PTT showed overheating-triggered side effects (e.g., damaging the normal tissue) and poor effects on thermotolerant bacterial biofilms. Therefore, we engineered an all-in-one glucose-responsive photothermal nanozyme, GOX/MPDA/Fe@CDs, consisting of glucose oxidase (GOX), Fe-doped carbon dots (Fe@CDs), and mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA), to efficiently treat chronic diabetic wound bacterial infections and eradicate biofilms without impacting the surrounding normal tissues. Specifically, GOX/MPDA/Fe@CDs produced a local temperature (∼ 45.0°C) to enhance the permeability of the pathogenic bacterium and its biofilm upon near-infrared (NIR) 808 nm laser irradiation, which was seized to initiate endogenous high blood glucose to activate the catalytic activity of GOX on the GOX/MPDA/Fe@CD surface to achieve the simultaneous self-supplying of H2O2 and H+, cascade catalyzing •OH production via a subsequent peroxidase-mimetic activity-induced Fenton/Fenton-like reaction. As such, the in vivo diabetic wound infected with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus was effectively healed after 12.0 days of treatment. This work was expected to provide an innovative approach to the clinical treatment of bacterially infected diabetic chronic wounds. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: An all-in-one glucose-responsive photothermal nanozyme GOX/MPDA/Fe@CDs was constructed. Cascade nanozyme GOX/MPDA/Fe@CDs self-supply H2O2 and H+ to break H2O2 and pH limits to fight bacterial infections. Synergistic chemotherapy and photothermal therapy with nanozyme GOX/MPDA/Fe@CDs accelerates healing of biofilm-infected diabetic wounds.

Abstract
As kanamycin (KAN) residue in animal products is harmful to consumers, a rapid and sensitive method for KAN detection needs to be established. KAN monoclonal antibody (KAN-mAb, 1D11) with the half maximal inhibitory concentration of 1.16 ng/mL was prepared in this study. A one-pot method was used to synthesize Fe3+-chelated polydopamine nanospheres (Fe@PDANs) with excellent characteristics of strong light absorption. The novel label of Fe@PDANs and KAN-mAb was used to develop a lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) for the sensitive detection of KAN. The limit of detection of the Fe@PDANs-based LFIA (Fe@PDANs-LFIA) for KAN was 0.0191 ng/mL, which was 2.75 times lower than PDANs-based LFIA. Furthermore, the Fe@PDANs-LFIA was successfully applied to detect KAN in pork, milk, and honey samples, with recoveries ranging from 93.75% to 113.80% (coefficient of variation < 10%). Therefore, Fe@PDANs have potential for the detection of analytes in LFIA.

Abstract
Food spoilage results in food waste and food-borne diseases. Yet, standard laboratory tests to determine spoilage (mainly volatile biogenic amines) are not performed regularly by supply chain personnel or end customers. Here we developed a poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride)-based, miniature (2 × 2 cm2) sensor for on-demand spoilage analysis via mobile phones. To demonstrate a real-life application, the wireless sensor was embedded into packaged chicken and beef; consecutive readings from meat samples using the sensor under various storage conditions enabled the monitoring of spoilage. While samples stored at room temperature showed an almost 700% change in sensor response on the third day, those stored in the freezer resulted in an insignificant change in sensor output. The proposed low-cost, miniature wireless sensor nodes can be integrated into packaged foods, helping consumers and suppliers detect spoilage of protein-rich foods on demand, and ultimately preventing food waste and food-borne diseases.

Abstract
In the rapidly evolving field of food science, nanotechnology-based biosensors are one of the most intriguing techniques for tracking meat freshness. Purine derivatives, especially hypoxanthine and xanthine, are important signs of food going bad, especially in meat and meat products. This article compares the analytical performance parameters of traditional biosensor techniques and nanotechnology-based biosensor techniques that can be used to find purine derivatives in meat samples. In the introduction, we discussed the significance of purine metabolisms as analytes in the field of food science. Traditional methods of analysis and biosensors based on nanotechnology were also briefly explained. A comprehensive section of conventional and nanotechnology-based biosensing techniques is covered in detail, along with their analytical performance parameters (selectivity, sensitivity, linearity, and detection limit) in meat samples. Furthermore, the comparison of the methods above was thoroughly explained. In the last part, the pros and cons of the methods and the future of the nanotechnology-based biosensors that have been created are discussed.

Abstract
Due to its unique biological composition, aquatic products, especially fish, are extremely perishable compared to other muscle products. Herein, we proposed an artificial nanozyme-based colorimetric detection of hypoxanthine (Hx), the indicator of fish freshness, in a minute-time scale without the assistance of a natural enzyme (hypoxanthine oxidase). The principle is based on the interaction between Hx and polyvinylpyrrolidone-modified platinum cubic nanomaterials (PVP-PtNC), in which the catalytic active sites of PVP-PtNC's surface were blocked by Hx. This causes the downregulation of PVP-PtNC's catalytic ability and weakened its ability to catalyze the oxidization of 3,3',5,5'-Tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) by H2O2. Accordingly, the decrease in the UV-vis absorption and the weakening of the colorimetric reaction color is proportional to the Hx concentration. On this basis, a target-triggered colorimetric method for detecting Hx is developed for fish freshness monitoring with a fast detection speed, low cost, high accuracy, and simplified operation. Experiments reveal that the correlation response of Hx is from 0.5 μM to 10 mM with a limit of detection of 0.16 μM. In particular, the Hx detected from real fish indicates that the method possesses a promising potential for practical application. All of these features are expected to promote the development of online detection tools for food safety monitoring.

Abstract
As living standards rise, the demand for high-quality chilled meat among consumers also grows. Researchers and enterprises have been interested in ensuring the quality of chilled meat in all links of the downstream industry. Nanozyme has shown the potential to address the aforementioned requirements. Reasons and approaches for the application of nanozymes in the freshness assessment or shelf life extension of chilled meat were discussed. The challenges for applying these nanozymes to ensure the quality of chilled meat were also summarized. Finally, this review examined the safety, regulatory status, and consumer attitudes toward nanozymes. This review revealed that the freshness assessment of chilled meat is closely related to mimicking the enzyme activities of nanozymes, whereas the shelf life changes of chilled meat are mostly dependent on the photothermal activities and pseudophotodynamic activities of nanozymes. In contrast, studies regarding the shelf life of chilled meat are more challenging to develop, as excessive heat or reactive oxygen species impair its quality. Notably, meat contains a complex matrix composition that may interact with the nanozyme, reducing its effectiveness. Nanopollution and mass manufacturing are additional obstacles that must be overcome. Therefore, it is vital to choose suitable approaches to ensure meat quality. Furthermore, the safety of nanozymes in meat applications still needs careful consideration owing to their widespread usage.

Abstract
Development of a simple and efficient dual-mode analytical technique with the built-in cross reference correction feature is benefit to achieve the highly accurate detection of the target pollutants and avoid the false-positive outputs in environmental media. Here, we synthesized a Fe-doped polydopamine (Fe@PDA)-based nanozyme with prominent peroxide-mimetic enzyme activity and high fluorescence emission ability. On this basis, we designed a dual-recognition strategy-driven fluorescence-colorimetric dual-mode detection platform, consisting of Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) recognition aptamer-modified Fe@PDA (apt/Fe@PDA) and vancomycin-functionalized Fe3O4 (van/Fe3O4), for L. monocytogenes. Owing to van/Fe3O4-powered magnetic separation, there was a L. monocytogenes concentration-dependent fluorescence enhancement of apt/Fe@PDA for performing fluorescence assay in the precipitate. In this case, the prominent peroxide-mimetic enzyme activity of the residual apt/Fe@PDA in the precipitation could catalyze H2O2 to further oxidate colorless 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) into blue oxTMB, which displayed a L. monocytogenes concentration-dependent absorbance enhancement for carrying out colorimetric assay as well. As a result, a fluorescence-colorimetric dual-mode analytical platform was proposed to successfully detect the residual L. monocytogenes in real environmental media with acceptable results. This work showed the great prospects by integrating dual-recognition strategy into fluorescence nanozyme to develop efficient and reliable dual-mode analytical platforms for safeguarding environmental health.

Abstract
Bacterial biofilms have evoked worldwide attention owing to their serious threats to public health, but how to effectively eliminate bacterial biofilms still remains great challenges. Here, we rationally designed a novel and vigorous chitosan grafted Fe-doped-carbon dots (CS@Fe/CDs) as an efficient artificial nanozyme to combat rigid bacterial biofilms through the selective activation of Fenton-like reaction-triggered peroxidase-like catalytic activity and the synergistic antibacterial activity of CS. On the one hand, the peroxidase-like catalytic activity made CS@Fe/CDs catalyze H2O2 for producing hydroxyl radicals (•OH), resulting in efficient cleavage of extracellular DNA (eDNA). On the other hand, CS was capable of binding with the negatively charged cell membrane through electrostatic interaction, changing the cell membrane permeability and causing cell death within bacterial biofilms. Based on their synergistic effects, the fragments of bacterial biofilm and exposed bacteria were persistently eradicated. Remarkably, CS@Fe/CDs-based nanozyme not only enabled the effective destroying of gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) biofilms, but also completely eliminated gram-negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) biofilms, showing great potential as a promising anti-biofilm agent against bacteria biofilms. This proposed synergistic strategy for bacterial biofilm eradication might offer a powerful modality to manage of bacterial biofilm fouling in food safety and environmental protection.

Abstract
Using an In2O3/WO3 type-II heterojunction modified fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) electrode as the photoanode and CdS quantum dots (QDs)-polydopamine nanospheres (PDA NSs) as the secondary antibody (Ab2) label, the photoelectrochemistry (PEC) sandwich immunosensing of the lung cancer marker CYFRA21-1 was studied. WO3 nanoplates were prepared by a hydrothermal method, In2O3 nanoporous spheres were prepared by a hydrothermal method followed by calcination, and the In2O3/WO3 type-II heterojunction with high PEC activity was prepared by ultrasonic mixing and cast-coating. PDA NSs with a high surface area can be loaded with abundant Ab2 molecules and many CdS QDs with an energy level well matched with the heterojunction, so the photocurrent signal can be amplified by the formation of a sandwich immunostructure. Through the simulation experiments of photoelectrode-modified chitosan films of varying thickness, the effective transport distance of photogenerated charges is preliminarily discussed. Under the optimized conditions, the photocurrent was linear with the common logarithm of CYFRA21-1 concentration from 100 fg mL-1 to 50 ng mL-1, with a limit of detection of 56 fg mL-1 (S/N = 3). The immunoassay of CYFRA21-1 in human serum samples gave satisfactory recovery results.
