Abstract
Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the distribution of virtual voice therapy during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) lockdown in Italy via the collection of opinions of speech-language pathologists (SLPs). Methods: All SLPs who regularly carried out their professional activity in public hospitals, private hospitals, or private practices in Italy were asked to fill out an online survey consisting of two sections: (1) demographic information (age, gender, work setting, seniority, working time, and regular use of virtual voice therapy) and (2) opinions regarding telerehabilitation (motivation, personal satisfaction, effectiveness, and future needs and uses). Results: A total of 299 SLPs (mean age 39.1 ± 12.4 years) completed the survey. Overall, a regular use of virtual voice therapy was declared by 31.1% (93/299) of SLPs, with the highest prevalence for SLPs working in fully private facilities (46.7%; p < 0.001). Among all respondents, 25.4% had a highly positive opinion on the possible use of virtual voice therapy, even in nonemergency situations, and 55.8% planned to maintain this rehabilitation modality in the future. Discussion: Italian SLPs, regardless of age, had a positive impact with the new telerehabilitation practices. Investments in training and updating SLPs through specific courses would help to break down the strong barriers to telepractice acceptance, such as lack of familiarity with new technologies and lack of adequate preparation. Virtual voice therapy, which had never been experienced in such a way in Italy before the COVID-19 pandemic, promises to be a valuable future addition to the current traditional rehabilitation approaches.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Evidence suggests telehealth in speech and language therapy can enhance access to care, cost-effectiveness and satisfaction. However, little is known about use of telehealth in the United Kingdom. Moreover, many assessments/outcome measures for aphasia have been tested for face-to-face administration only, posing challenges to reliable use within the telehealth context. We explored the experiences and views of speech and language therapists (SLTs) working with people with aphasia on using telehealth to conduct assessments/outcome measures, perceived barriers and facilitators in telehealth, and their priorities for research in telehealth aphasia assessment. METHOD We explored views of UK SLTs through an online cross-sectional survey (2021) delivered through the Qualtrics platform. The survey covered three main areas: (i) participant demographics; (ii) experience of using telehealth and doing telehealth assessments with people with aphasia post-stroke during the COVID-19 pandemic; and (iii) plans for telehealth post-pandemic. Response formats included yes/no, multiple choice, 5-point Likert scales and open-ended text responses. The survey was expected to take no more than 10 min to complete. Survey data were analysed through descriptive statistics and content analysis of open-ended questions. RESULTS One hundred twenty-four SLTs responded to the survey. The majority (>80%) used telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic and >90% planned to continue to use telehealth in the future. The most used platforms were Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Attend Anywhere. Access to internet and telehealth platforms, and practical problems (e.g., difficulties sharing resources online, limited functionality of telehealth platforms for assessment) were common barriers. Therapists highlighted that training, resources and materials that assist the administration of assessments were important. Most participants responded that there was a need for existing measures to be tested for administration via telehealth (n = 68, 70.8%). Participants overall felt there was a need for online interactive assessments, more online resources that have been trialled for use via telehealth, accessible formats for resources for people with aphasia and clear instructions for how people with aphasia can access resources. CONCLUSIONS This study provides new insights into the current use of telehealth assessment with people with aphasia in the United Kingdom and directions for future research. Barriers and facilitators identified can support the implementation of telehealth assessment in SLT services. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS What is already known on the subject The use of telehealth in speech and language therapy has advantages in terms of access to care, cost-effectiveness and satisfaction with care. However, little is known about the use of telehealth in aphasia rehabilitation in the United Kingdom, especially in the area of assessment and outcome measurement. What this paper adds to existing knowledge This study identified that the majority (>80%) of aphasia therapists used telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic and >90% planned to continue to use telehealth in the future. A need was identified for existing measures to be tested for administration via telehealth and for training, resources (e.g., online interactive assessments) and materials (e.g., accessible formats for people with aphasia). What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work? To facilitate the successful implementation of telehealth assessment, there is a need for measures validated for use via telehealth and more online resources that have been trialled for use via telehealth.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many allied health services now provide both telehealth and in-person services following a rapid integration of telehealth as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, little is known about how decisions are made about which clinical appointments to provide via telehealth versus in person. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to explore clinicians' decision-making when contemplating telehealth for their clients, including the factors they consider and how they weigh up these different factors, and the clinicians' perceptions of telehealth utility beyond COVID-19 lockdowns. METHODS We used reflexive thematic analysis with data collected from focus groups with 16 pediatric community-based allied health clinicians from the disciplines of speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, social work, psychology, and counseling. RESULTS The findings indicated that decision-making was complex with interactions across 4 broad categories: technology, clients and families, clinical services, and clinicians. Three themes described their perceptions of telehealth use beyond COVID-19 lockdowns: "flexible telehealth use," "telehealth can be superior to in-person therapy," and "fear that in-person services may be replaced." CONCLUSIONS The findings highlight the complexity of decision-making in a community-allied health setting and the challenges experienced by clinicians when reconciling empirical evidence with their own clinical experience.

Abstract
PURPOSE Despite the speed with which telehealth use advanced during the COVID-19 pandemic, evidence is needed to support the remote delivery of standardized assessments. This study investigated the reliability and feasibility of administering a standardized language assessment administered in real-world telehealth scenarios compared to in-person administration. METHOD A total of 100 children between the ages of 3 and 12 years were administered one of three versions of the Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals (CELF). Children were administered the CELF by the same licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in person and using telehealth, with the order counterbalanced. Means for Core Language standard scores were compared between conditions and among devices. Descriptive statistics summarized the behavior and technology disruptions during administration as well as the results of parent and SLP telehealth perception surveys. RESULTS In-person and telehealth mean scores on all three versions of the CELF revealed no systematic differences of one condition under- or overestimating another. The incidence of child behavior disruptions was similar for both test administration conditions. Adaptations compensated for the rare technology disruptions. Despite no significant language score and behavior differences between testing conditions, parents reported they continued to prefer in-person assessments. SLP participants viewed telehealth overall positively but identified conditions in which they continued to prefer in-person delivery. CONCLUSIONS This study provides evidence of minimal or no differences in scores and behavioral or technological disruptions between remote and in-person administration of the CELF core language assessments. SLP and parent participants' attitudes toward remote delivery of standardized tests appear to be evolving in a positive direction compared to previous studies. Abstract
BACKGROUND Impaired discourse production is commonly reported for individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Discourse deficits can negatively impact community integration, return to employment and quality of life. COVID-19 restrictions have reduced in-person assessment services for people with communication impairments. Advances in telehealth may help speech and language therapists (SLTs) to assess monologic discourse more systematically and improve access to services for patients who may find it difficult to attend in-person. AIMS To examine the feasibility of telehealth administration of narrative and procedural discourse tasks with individuals with TBI and matched controls. METHODS & PROCEDURES A total of 20 individuals with TBI and 20 healthy controls, aged 18-55 years, were directly recruited from the UK and indirectly recruited from the US. For participants with TBI, time post-injury was at least 3 months with no diagnosis of aphasia. Control participants were matched for sex and as closely as possible for age. Feasibility of measures was based upon the time to administer both narrative tasks, the report of any technological problems, and participant feed. Discourse samples were transcribed verbatim and analysed using story grammar analysis (for narrative discourse) and identification of propositions (for procedural discourse). Interrater reliability was calculated using percentage agreement for 50% of the data. Non-parametric analyses were used to analyse the performance of the two groups. OUTCOMES & RESULTS Narrative and procedural discourse samples were collected via telehealth in approximately 10 min with no reported technical difficulties or complaints from any participants. For narrative discourse performance, there were significant differences for the TBI and control groups for measures of complete episodes (p < 0.001) and missing episodes (p = 0.005). No significant group differences were noted for any of the procedural discourse measures. CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS Results support the feasibility of collecting discourse samples via telehealth. Although the participants' discourse performance distinguished the TBI and control groups on the narrative task, no differences between the groups were noted for the procedural task. The narrative discourse task may have been more difficult than the procedural task, or video cue support reduced the cognitive load of the procedural task. This finding suggests the use of more complex procedural tasks without video cue support may be needed. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS What is already known on this subject Although little research has explored the feasibility of administering discourse assessments for individuals with TBI via telehealth, some studies have found that discourse interventions can be feasibly administered via telehealth. It is also well established that individuals with TBI struggle with the supra-structural and macro-linguistic elements of discourse production. Both procedural and narrative discourse tasks have been found to differentiate individuals with TBI from healthy controls. What this paper adds to existing knowledge Few studies have investigated the feasibility of, and procedures for, administering discourse tasks via telehealth. Additionally, the inclusion of multiple types of discourse tasks to parse cognitive-communication abilities is lacking in the current literature. Findings from this study support that narrative and procedural discourse can be feasibly sampled via telehealth and that international collaboration for research on this topic can facilitate such studies. Individuals with TBI performed more poorly on three measures of narrative discourse. No differences between groups were identified for the procedural task. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work? Telehealth assessment for discourse provides flexibility for both the individual with TBI and the speech-language therapist and does not compromise the quality of data collected. The administration of discourse tasks and collection of data was not time-consuming and was well accepted by the study participants. Additionally, international research collaboration not only expands potential participation in research but increases the opportunity to recruit and study more diverse groups.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION One's ability to repair communication breakdown is an important pragmatic language skill. The present study examined children's communication repair strategies between online and face-to-face interactions using a reading comprehension task designed to probe for persistent clarification requests. METHODS 4-6-year-old typically developing children (Age: M = 5.5years) completed a communication repair task. Online group (n = 17) completed the task online, face-to-face group(n = 22) met researchers in person. Children's responses were then categorized into verbal strategies, supplementary strategies, and nonresponses. RESULTS Our results showed that children can effectively employ repair strategies when a communication breakdown occurs, regardless of the communication setting in response to a series of clarification requests. However, types and patterns of communication repair strategies varied between online and face-to-face interactions. Children in online interaction showed higher use of repetition and suprasegmental strategies than did their face-to-face peers. In contrast, children in face-to-face interaction demonstrated more frequent use of revision and addition. Also, we examined the relationship between repair strategy and children's language skills. The results showed that children with better language skills used more addition, which is a more complex strategy than suprasegmental and nonresponse, and tried to use repair strategies effectively in an attempt to repair their statements as clarification requests proceeded. CONCLUSION It is important to understand different trends of pragmatic skills of children across online and face-to-face interaction. Guidance on the effective strategy to repair communication breakdowns depending on the different contexts needs to be considered for the successful use of online learning and telepractice.

Abstract
PURPOSE Telepractice administration of norm-referenced assessments of communication and cognition is relatively new, and evidence to support this practice for children with hearing loss is limited. This rapid review examines the validity, reliability, feasibility, and common features of telepractice-administered norm-referenced assessments of communication and cognition for children with hearing loss to determine whether results via telepractice-administration are usable. METHOD This rapid review was conducted in accordance with the Cochrane Collaboration Rapid Reviews Methods Group recommendations. Rayyan software was used for initial and full-text screening, and the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies was used to measure study quality. RESULTS Electronic databases searches identified two studies that met the eligibility criteria. The findings of this rapid review provide some evidence to indicate that results of norm-referenced assessments do not differ depending on test administration conditions or hearing group status. Although both studies were of sufficient quality, replicability of these studies is uncertain due to the limited description of telepractice administration procedures. Participants indicated that sound levels provided by inbuilt computer speakers were adequate for them to be able to participate in telepractice assessment. CONCLUSION Telepractice administration of the norm-referenced assessments in the included studies may be valid, reliable, and feasible; however, the generalizability of these findings to other norm-referenced assessments is uncertain due to the limited amount of research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic and response changed clinical service delivery and practice for speech and language therapists (SLTs) in the United Kingdom. SLTs work with children with neurodisability regarding both difficulties with their communication and eating and drinking skills (oropharyngeal dysphagia). This survey aimed to specifically explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on SLT practice for school-aged children with dysphagia. METHODS UK-based SLTs working with school-aged children with neurodisability and oropharyngeal dysphagia were recruited to share their perceptions on the impact of COVID-19 on practice. Four questions focusing on COVID-19 impact were part of a larger online survey exploring SLT clinical practice regarding mealtime management of children with neurodisability and oropharyngeal dysphagia, which included demographic information, service delivery, assessment and intervention practices. COVID-19 impact questions were a mixture of multiple choice and free text responses. The survey was disseminated using professional networks and social media, between 14 May and 30 July 2021. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and qualitative content analysis. RESULTS One hundred and two participants answered at least one of the four COVID-19 questions. Eighty-two per cent of SLTs either agreed or strongly agreed that COVID-19 impacted on service delivery to children and families. Negative impacts on service delivery included school absences/closures, home visiting restrictions, families declining input and/or having barriers to telehealth use and the impact of mask wearing on interactions. Positive impacts included increased telehealth access and skills, increased contact with families and focus on children's eating and drinking function within the home environment. Participants aimed to maintain the increased contact with families alongside a hybrid service delivery approach of in-person and virtual appointments. CONCLUSIONS This survey provides novel information capturing SLT practice change across two waves of COVID-19 and return to in-person practice for UK children with neurodisability.

Abstract
Introduction: The objective of this work was to investigate Speech-Language Pathologists' (SLPs) and audiologists' telehealth awareness, experience, and perception in terms of applicability, effectiveness, barriers, facilitators, and the influence of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on telehealth practice. Methods: A questionnaire was developed and validated based on relevant literature, authors' clinical expertise, and a published survey. Sample size was determined through power analysis, and participants were recruited using a snowball-sampling technique. Results: Ninety-five (n = 95) clinicians completed a survey. A majority (87.4%) reported awareness of and 68.4% reported experience with telehealth. The SLPs (86.4%) had more experience than audiologists (38.9%). Overall, 78.5% first used telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic, with no significant difference in telehealth use during versus after the pandemic lockdown; 63.8% reported telehealth being less effective than in-person. However, there were differences in perceived telehealth effectiveness: Telehealth was significantly more effective for consultations and counseling, with adults aged 18-40 years; and clients with fluency and speech sound disorders. The highest significant barrier to telehealth delivery was network issues, and available workplace resources was the highest facilitator although this was not significant. Conclusions: Most clinicians were aware of telehealth, had a positive attitude toward it, and had experience using telehealth. More SLPs than audiologists used telehealth. The COVID-19 pandemic had a positive influence on telehealth service provision with an increase in use that was maintained after in-person services were re-initiated. Perceived effectiveness of telehealth services varied depending on the type of clinical service, the client's age, and diagnosis. These factors must be considered while planning telehealth services in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

Abstract
The overall burden of voice disorders is vast, and speech-language therapy has been in use for long to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat different speech and language disorders. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, these services are not readily accessible because of various precautionary measures that have been laid down by the government to check the blowout of infection; as a solution to this, there has been a rise in telepractice. The purpose of this review article is to study the usefulness of telepractice for speech-language therapy during the COVID-19 pandemic and its way forward. Search was performed in the PubMed database. A total of 102 articles were found, out of which 32 articles were included through a comprehensive inclusion and exclusion criteria. This study analyzes various papers on the use of telepractice during COVID-19 for speech-language therapy. The satisfaction was greater among women as compared to men because women could get the appointment done at home and they could easily manage their household chores. It has been recognized as an "attend anywhere" web-based platform that provides us with the 5 C's, namely, easy-to-access care, increased comfort, increased convenience, reduced cost, and higher confidentiality. Patients look for such sessions in the future, even when the pandemic is over. Telepractice has now been accepted as the new healthcare delivery model with multiple advantages and disadvantages. However, more research needs to be done on the moral and environmental aspects related to its use.

Abstract
Purpose This study compared the satisfaction of recipients of conventional speech-language therapy (C-SLT), speech-language teletherapy (SLTT), and hybrid speech-language therapy (H-SLT), and determined sociodemographic factors that affect their satisfaction. Patients and Methods Participants were clients and caregivers of a speech-language clinic at a public university. Services were primarily provided by student clinicians, who were undergoing supervised clinical training. An online survey was distributed, which consisted of three sections: Background Information, Overall Satisfaction in SLT, and Satisfaction in SLTT. All participants completed the first two sections, while the third section was completed only by those who experienced SLTT or H-SLT. Results Most of the respondents were caregivers (89.7%), female (79.4%), of Malay ethnicity (80.9%), have received tertiary education (77.9%), within the low-income category (66.2%), held a job (76.5%), and resided in central West Malaysia (83.8%). Many participants experienced C-SLT (51%), followed by H-SLT (34%), and SLTT (15%). There were no significant differences in the overall satisfaction of the participants across three modes of services delivery (F[2,67] = 0.02, p = 0.95), and in the satisfaction with teletherapy between the H-SLT and SLTT groups (t = 0.90, p = 0.38). Income was the only sociodemographic factor that was correlated with the satisfaction level in teletherapy (r = 0.37, p = 0.04).

Abstract
PURPOSE Babble Boot Camp (BBC) is a parent-implemented telepractice intervention for infants at risk for speech and language disorders. BBC uses a teach-model-coach-review approach, delivered through weekly 15-min virtual meetings with a speech-language pathologist. We discuss accommodations needed for successful virtual follow-up test administration and preliminary assessment outcomes for children with classic galactosemia (CG) and controls at age 2.5 years. METHOD This clinical trial included 54 participants, 16 children with CG receiving BBC speech-language intervention from infancy, age 2 years, five children receiving sensorimotor intervention from infancy and changing to speech-language intervention at 15 months until 2 years of age, seven controls with CG, and 26 typically developing controls. The participants' language and articulation were assessed via telehealth at age 2.5 years. RESULTS The Preschool Language Scale-Fifth Edition (PLS-5) was successfully administered with specific parent instruction and manipulatives assembled from the child's home. The GFTA-3 was successfully administered to all but three children who did not complete this assessment due to limited expressive vocabularies. Referrals for continued speech therapy based on PLS-5 and GFTA-3 scores were made for 16% of children who received BBC intervention from infancy as compared to 40% and 57% of children who began BBC at 15 months of age or did not receive BBC intervention, respectively. CONCLUSIONS With extended time and accommodations from the standardized administration guidelines, virtual assessment of speech and language was possible. However, given the inherent challenges of testing very young children virtually, in-person assessment is recommended, when possible, for outcome measurements.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Voice therapy provides patients with valuable exercises and techniques to optimize vocal behaviors and improve their ability to communicate effectively and efficiently. These sessions were typically held by speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in clinic. During the COVID-19 pandemic, SLPs were provisionally able to provide billable voice therapy services in telehealth format. There is a lack of existing research studies comparing outcomes based on the format of voice therapy. METHODS A retrospective chart review was performed on 101 patients who underwent voice therapy at a large academic institution in order to compare outcomes between clinic, telehealth, and mixed voice therapy formats. Demographics, dysphonia etiology, duration of symptoms, number of therapy sessions, and pre- and postvoice therapy scores using reflux symptom index (RSI), voice handicap index (VHI-10), consensus auditory-perceptual evaluation of voice (CAPE-V), and Grade, Roughness, Breathiness, Asthenia, Strain (GRBAS) scoring were collected. Statistical comparisons were performed using Fisher's exact test and analysis of covariance. RESULTS There were no statistically significant differences in pre- to postvoice therapy RSI, VHI-10, CAPE-V, or GRBAS scores based on format of voice therapy, after adjustment for number of therapy sessions received. There were no differences in these outcomes when comparing voice therapy by etiology of dysphonia. CONCLUSIONS Overall, these data support the effectiveness of the telehealth voice therapy format. It is a promising platform for greater patient access to therapy. All formats of voice therapy were effective in improving key measures of voice perception.

Abstract
PURPOSE Teen Online Problem Solving (TOPS) is an evidence-based teletherapy program designed to promote neurocognitive, behavioral, and psychosocial recovery following brain injury through family-centered training. To date, TOPS has been primarily administered by neuropsychologists and clinical psychologists. This clinical focus article discusses a quality improvement project to adapt the TOPS training and manual for use by speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and reports feedback from SLPs following TOPS training and after delivering the program with adolescents who experienced neurological insults. METHOD SLPs were invited to participate in TOPS training. Trainees were asked to complete posttraining surveys, active therapist questionnaires, and follow-up surveys directed to SLPs who had completed the intervention with at least one patient. RESULTS To date, a total of 38 SLPs completed TOPS training, 13 have implemented TOPS with at least one adolescent. Eight SLPs and 16 psychologists/trainees responded to follow-up surveys to share their perspectives on the program. Perceptions of clinicians delivering the program did not differ significantly in most respects. SLPs rated the ease of understanding nonverbal communication higher than psychologists. Seven SLPs responded to an SLP-specific survey about their experiences administering TOPS, noting a range of advantages and some limitations in their open-ended responses. CONCLUSION Training SLPs to deliver TOPS has the potential to increase service provision to adolescents with acquired brain injury who have cognitive communication difficulties and their families. Abstract
OBJECTIVES The study aimed to evaluate patient satisfaction with speech-language therapy televisits and to identify factors influencing the level of satisfaction. METHODS Participants were recruited from an academic tertiary voice and swallowing center who had completed ≥1 telehealth session of speech-language therapy with a speech-language pathologist between March, 2020 and April, 2021. Patient satisfaction was assessed using the Short Assessment of Patient Satisfaction (SAPS), a validated 7-item survey. Demographic characteristics of participants were collected from a review of patient charts. RESULTS 65/239 patients completed the SAPS survey, representing a response rate of 27%. The average age of study participants was 54.92 ± 16.45 years, with 49.2% identifying as female, 33.9% as male, and 16.9% as trans-female. The mean SAPS score was 22.60 ± 3.89, with 84.62% of patients satisfied or very satisfied with their visit. Patients were most satisfied with provider respect (3.91 ± 0.34) and care received (3.74 ± 0.64), and least satisfied with visit length (2.32 ± 1.38) and explanation of treatment results (2.62 ± 1.72). Patient satisfaction was positively correlated with younger age and an increased number of televisits. Satisfaction did not differ significantly by gender identity, type of therapy received, insurance type, travel distance, or prior in-person therapy. CONCLUSION Clinicians are able to achieve high patient satisfaction with speech-language therapy when delivered by telehealth. Patient satisfaction remained high across diverse patient populations and range of clinical needs. Clinicians should remain cognizant of the unique limitations of older patients when conducting telehealth visits. LAY SUMMARY Clinicians are able to achieve high patient satisfaction with speech-language therapy when delivered via telehealth. Satisfaction remained high regardless of gender identity, type of therapy received, type of insurance, travel distance, or completion of prior in-person therapy. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to investigate factors related to treatment attendance for patients seeking gender-affirming voice therapy (GAVT). METHOD We completed retrospective chart reviews of 50 patients (43 transgender women, three transgender men, four nonbinary patients; aged 18-67 years, M = 34.92 years, SD = 12.32 years) referred for GAVT at a Midwest outpatient center from 2016 to 2021. Data extraction included patient demographics, therapy visit specifics (e.g., number of sessions attended, treatment completion status, and in-person vs. virtual visits) and treatment timing (in relation to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic), and psychosocial and socioeconomic information. RESULTS There was no impact of treatment-timing relative to the onset of the pandemic on any attendance measure; however, patients were 1.9 times more likely to complete therapy with each virtual telehealth session attended. Individual factors of outside social support and hormone replacement therapy were positively related to the number of therapy sessions attended, whereas insurance provider and employment status were related to therapy completion. CONCLUSIONS Telehealth attendance during the COVID-19 pandemic was positively associated with GAVT completion. Future research should investigate psychosocial and socioeconomic factors to understand how to identify patients at risk for poor treatment adherence and facilitate access to clinical care.

Abstract
The goal of this study was to explore telehealth use for dysphagia management in response to COVID-19 to understand variables associated with clinician confidence and perceived effectiveness of this service delivery model and determine clinician-perceived benefits and challenges of managing dysphagia via telehealth. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs, n = 235) completed a web-based survey, providing information on demographics, telehealth use during the pandemic, and perspectives on current and future tele-management of dysphagia. Analyses included descriptive statistics to examine usage patterns; logistic regression to determine which variables were associated with telehealth use, clinician confidence, and perceived-effectiveness; and conventional content analysis to analyze responses to open-ended questions. Results revealed a sharp increase in the tele-management of dysphagia during the pandemic. Years of experience with dysphagia management (p = .031) and pre-pandemic use of telehealth (p < .001) were significantly associated with current use patterns. Working in the outpatient setting was associated with greater clinician confidence (p = .003) and perceived effectiveness (p = .007), and use of guidelines (p = .042) was also associated with greater clinician confidence. Key challenges identified included inadequate technological infrastructure, inadequate patient digital literacy, and reimbursement restrictions. Key benefits were treatment continuity, improving access to care, and time savings. The majority (67%) of respondents reported that they would use telehealth in the future. These findings demonstrate SLPs' abilities and desire to expand their practice patterns to include telehealth for dysphagia management. Therefore, clinician training and more research on best practices for assessment and treatment of dysphagia via telehealth is warranted to refine models of care for dysphagia tele-management.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this project was to examine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on speech-language pathologist (SLP) service provision for emergent bilinguals who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). One prominent issue in AAC service delivery is the efficacy and feasibility of providing AAC services via telepractice. The COVID-19 pandemic intensified this issue as most providers, clients, and families adjusted to remote service delivery models. While emerging evidence supports telepractice in AAC, little is known about the potential benefits and challenges of telepractice for emergent bilinguals who use AAC and their families. METHOD Data were collected via a nationwide survey. Licensed SLPs (N = 160) completed an online questionnaire with Likert-type, multiple-choice, and open-ended questions, analyzed using mixed methods. RESULTS Findings illustrated a shift in service delivery from in-person to telepractice and hybrid (both telepractice and in-person) models. Overall, child intervention outcomes declined for emergent bilinguals who used AAC during the COVID-19 pandemic, regardless of service delivery format. However, collaboration increased for many providers and families. Qualitative analyses highlighted barriers to AAC service provision for emergent bilinguals who use AAC that were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as factors that facilitated collaboration and family engagement. CONCLUSION These findings suggest that, despite challenges, telepractice or hybrid services may be a promising approach to provide more culturally responsive, family-centered care for emergent bilinguals who use AAC. Abstract
BACKGROUND Phonetic transcription is recognized in regulatory standards as an essential skill for Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) in the assessment, diagnosis and management of clients with speech difficulties. Previous research has identified that approaches to phonetic transcription vary, and that SLTs often lack confidence in transcribing. However, SLTs' views and working practices have not been investigated in detail, particularly in terms of whole service approaches and following the recent increase in telehealth. AIMS To investigate SLTs' views about phonetic transcription, their working practices at both individual and service levels, and the factors that influence these. METHODS & PROCEDURES A total of 19 SLTs from the UK were recruited to online focus groups via social media and local networks. Participants discussed their views of, and practices in, phonetic transcription. Themes were identified using reflexive thematic analysis. OUTCOMES & RESULTS Three broad themes were generated division and unity; one small part of a big job; and fit for purpose. SLTs were uniformly proud of their ability to phonetically transcribe and viewed this as a unique skill, but clear differences existed between different groups of SLTs in their views and practices. Investing in phonetic transcription was not always a priority for SLTs or services, and although many felt under-confident in their skills they considered these to be adequate for the populations they usually encounter. SLTs make an early judgement about possible therapy targets, which influences the level of detail used in their phonetic transcription. Practical barriers are often not addressed at service level, and assessment via telehealth poses some specific challenges. CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS SLTs and services would benefit from increased investment in phonetic transcription in terms of time, opportunities for continuing professional development (CPD) and initiatives such as electronic patient records (EPRs) which support the use of phonetic symbols. Identifying target sounds at an early stage raises questions about the implications of disregarding other features of speech, and the selection of appropriate intervention approaches. Further research is needed to analyse actual rather than reported practices, and to consider the relationship between phonetic transcription and intervention approaches. Future studies could also identify precise CPD requirements and evaluate the effectiveness of CPD. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS What is already known on the subject Previous research has demonstrated that SLTs often lack confidence in phonetic transcription and that practices are varied, with relatively little use of narrow transcription. SLTs are interested in opportunities to maintain and develop transcription skills but do not often undertake CPD for transcription. What this paper adds to existing knowledge By using focus groups as a forum for discussions, this study provides a rich and detailed insight into SLTs' views about clinical transcription and their working practices, with previously unreported details about the reasons for these practices in a clinical context and at a service-wide level. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work? Transcription is often de-prioritized in non-specialist contexts, with practical barriers and a lack of clear and consistent protocols at a whole-service level. There is an opportunity for service managers to address the systemic difficulties in using transcription effectively by raising the profile and value of transcription amongst clinicians, and promoting CPD opportunities, using the findings of this study as a rationale for funding this. Together, these recommendations have the potential to improve client outcomes through more accurate assessment and diagnosis, and hence more appropriate intervention.

Abstract
Developmental language disorder (DLD) and dyslexia are common but under-identified conditions that affect children's ability to read and comprehend text. Universal screening is a promising solution for improving under-identification of DLD and dyslexia, however, we lack evidence for how to effectively implement and sustain screening procedures in schools. In the current study, we solicited input from educators in the U.S. around perceived barriers and facilitators to the implementation of researcher-developed screeners for DLD and dyslexia. Using thematic analysis, we identified barriers and facilitators within five domains: (1) features of the screeners, (2) preparation for screening procedures, (3) administration of the screeners, (4) demands on users, and (5) screening results. We discuss these findings and ways we can continue improving our efforts to maximize the contextual fit and utility of screening practices in schools.

Abstract
PURPOSE COVID-19 caused a worldwide conversion from in-person therapy to telehealth; however, limited evidence to support the efficacy of remotely delivering standardized tests puts the future of widespread telehealth use at risk. The aim of this study is to investigate the reliability of scoring a speech sound assessment administered in real-world scenarios including two examples of telehealth technology. METHOD A total of thirty-nine 3- to 8-year-olds were administered the Goldman-Fristoe Test of Articulation-Third Edition. Licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs) concurrently scored children's responses in person and in two telehealth conditions considered typical and enhanced. Mean standard scores and interrater reliability results were compared among the three conditions. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the frequency of technology and behavior disruptions during administration and the results of an SLP telehealth perception survey. RESULTS All scoring conditions were found to be highly correlated, with mean differences revealing no systematic differences of one condition over- or underestimating another. Although response agreement was high (85%-87%), final sounds in words or sounds that are difficult to observe tended to attenuate reliability. Neither child nor technology disruptions affected SLPs' ability to score responses. Despite no significant differences between conditions on scoring reliability, SLP participants reported they continued to prefer in-person over a telehealth speech sound assessment. CONCLUSIONS This study supports the provision of a pediatric speech sound assessment using consumer-grade equipment, as in-person, typical telehealth, and enhanced telehealth scoring conditions produced similar results. However, SLP participants' skeptical attitudes toward remote delivery of standardized tests reveal an ongoing barrier to widespread telehealth use.
