Abstract
BACKGROUND Although tamoxifen (TMX) belongs to selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) and selectively binds to estrogen receptors, it affects other estrogen-producing tissues due to passive diffusion and non-differentiation of normal and cancerous cells and leads to side effects. METHODS The problems expressed about tamoxifen (TMX) encouraged us to design a new drug delivery system based on magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) to simultaneously target two receptors on cancer cells through folic acid (FA) and hyaluronic acid (HA) groups. The mediator of binding of two targeting agents to MNPs is a polymer linker, including dopamine, polyethylene glycol, and terminal amine (DPN). RESULTS Zeta potential, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) methods confirmed that MNPs-DPN-HA-FA has a suitable size of ~105 nm and a surface charge of -41 mV, and therefore, it can be a suitable option for carrying TMX and increasing its solubility. The cytotoxic test showed that the highest concentration of MNPs-DPN-HA-FA-TMX decreased cell viability to about 11% after 72 h of exposure compared to the control. While the protective effect of modified MNPs on normal cells was evident, unlike tamoxifen, the survival rate of liver cells, even after 180 min of treatment, was not significantly different from the control group. The protective effect of MNPs was also confirmed by examining the amount of malondialdehyde, and no significant difference was observed in the amount of lipid peroxidation caused by modified MNPs compared to the control. Flow cytometry proved that TMX loaded onto modified MNPs can induce apoptosis by targeting the overexpressed receptors on cancer cells. Real-time PCR showed that the modified MNPs activated the intrinsic and extrinsic mitochondrial pathways of apoptosis, so the Bak1/Bclx ratio for MNPs-DPN-HAFA- TMX and free TMX was 70.82 and 0.38, respectively. Also, the expression of the caspase-3 gene increased 430 times compared to the control. On the other hand, only TNF gene expression, which is responsible for metastasis in some tumors, was decreased by both free TMX and MNPs-DPN-HA-FA-TMX. Finally, molecular docking proved that MNPs-DPN-HA-FA-TMX could provide a very stable interaction with both CD44 and folate receptors, induce apoptosis in cancer cells, and reduce hepatotoxicity. CONCLUSION All the results showed that MNPs-DPN-HA-FA-TMX can show good affinity to cancer cells using targeting agents and induce apoptosis in metastatic breast ductal carcinoma T-47D cell lines. Also, the protective effects of MNPs on hepatocytes are quite evident, and they can reduce the side effects of TMX.

Abstract
To learn more about the chemotherapeutic and pharmacokinetic properties of a neodymium complex containing 1,10-phenanthroline (dafone), In vitro binding was investigated with bovine serum albumin and fish-salmon DNA, using a variety of molecular modeling research and biophysical approaches. A variety of spectroscopic techniques including fluorescence and absorption were used to investigate the interplay between DNA/BSA and the neodymium complex. The findings revealed that the Nd complex had a high affinity for BSA and DNA interplays through van der Waals powers. In addition, the binding of the Nd complex to FS-DNA mainly in the groove binding mode clearly reflects with iodide quenching studies, ethidium bromide (EtBr) exclusion assay, ionic strength effect, and viscosity studies. It was observed that the Nd complex binds to FS-DNA through a minor groove with 3.81 × 105 (M-1). Also, Kb for BSA at 298 K was 5.19×105 (M-1), indicating a relatively high affinity of the Nd complex for DNA and BSA. In addition, a competitive study of a docking investigation revealed that the neodymium complex interacts at BSA site III. The results obtained from the binding calculations are well consistent with the experimental findings. Also, cytotoxicity studies of Nd complex were performed in MCF-7 and A-549 cell lines and the results show that this new complex has a selective inhibitory effect on the growth of various cancer cells.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Several mechanisms are known for the anticancer effects of cisplatin. However, its most wellknown function involves binding to DNA and activating the DNA damage response. METHODS Despite its good effects, the treatment process often leads to chemoresistance and affects the mechanisms that support cell survival, such as pathways that promote cell growth, apoptosis, DNA damage repair, and endocytosis. For this reason, we investigated the effects of a new metal complex (tetradentate Schiff base zinc(II) complex) on breast cancer cells (T-47D). We evaluated its effect on cytotoxicity, apoptosis, and drug resistance in comparison to cisplatin. RESULTS The results of the MTT test showed that tetradentate Schiff base zinc(II) complex has good cytotoxicity compared to cisplatin. The IC50 values for the [Zn(SB)]Cl2 complex and cisplatin after 72 h of exposure were equal to 42.1 and 276.1 μM, respectively. Real-time PCR assay confirmed that the [Zn(SB)]Cl2 complex activated the mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis and increased the expression of Bak1 and caspase-3 genes significantly compared to cisplatin. More importantly, the [Zn(SB)]Cl2 was able to reduce the expression of the β-catenin gene, which plays a role in drug resistance, by 0.011 compared to the control. CONCLUSION Therefore, we can hope for this new complex because, without the help of any β-catenin silencing agent, it was able to inhibit the drug resistance in the T-47D cell line that overexpresses the β-catenin gene.

Abstract
The wide use of rare-earth elements in China for aquacultural purposes and many other applications has resulted in their accumulation in the aquatic environment and has caused concern about their safety. In this study, we tested the toxicity of lanthanum (La (III)) to the early life stages (embryonic and sac-fry stages) of the rare minnow Gobiocypris rarus Ye & Fu, 1983. We exposed fertilized eggs to 0, 0.06, 0.13, 0.25, 0.50, 1.00, and 1.92 mg/L of La (III) until the yolk sac was exhausted in any group (at about 168 h of exposure). Exposure to 1.00 and 1.92 mg/L La (III) had obvious lethal effects on embryos, La (III) exposure also accelerated the development of embryos and had a significant inhibitory effect on the hatching rate after 96 h. As the exposure time increased, the larvae exhibited obvious yolk-sac edema, pericardium edema, spinal curvature, tail bending, and other symptoms of poisoning, including deflated swim-bladder. In general, these results clearly indicate that La pollutants hinder the development of rare minnow embryos and are acutely toxic to rare minnow larvae. Our finding would provide a theoretical basis for further research of relevant feed additive criteria for this fish.

Abstract
Purpose Gastric injury is a major issue for long-term administration of aspirin. In this work, we tried to explore the possibility of using BLG to alleviate aspirin-induced gastric injury, because of excellent abilities of BLG in loading drug molecules. Methods Various spectroscopic techniques and molecular docking methods were applied to investigate the interaction mechanism between BLG and aspirin. Animal experiments were performed to figure out the effects of taking aspirin-BLG on the stomach. Results Our results demonstrate that aspirin could bind with BLG to form stable aspirin-BLG complex (the binding constant Kb= 2.051 × 103 M−1). The formation process is endothermic (∆H>0) and the main acting force is hydrophobic force. Our data also show that the aspirin-BLG complex is formed with a higher affinity in simulated gastric fluid and could remain stable for several hours, which might arise from its special binding mode under acidic condition and the resistance of BLG to gastric digestion. Furthermore, animal models (rats with aspirin-induced gastric damage) were built. The results of animal experiments reveal that the oral administration of aspirin-BLG could cause less damage to gastric tissue, and it also hardly triggers obvious inflammatory responses. Conclusion This study would contribute to an in-depth understanding of the interaction mechanism between BLG and aspirin. It is reasonable to believe that using BLG to bind with aspirin would be a potential way to alleviate the aspirin-induced gastric injury.

Abstract
Herein, the synthesis, structure, binding affinity, cytotoxicity, and apoptotic properties of the new Zn(II) complex composed of folic acid and bipyridine ligands are reported. Because folic acid has the ability to target cancer cells directly, so it can play a role in targeted drug delivery of the complex and be useful to distinguish normal cells from cancerous. After characterization of Zinc complex utilizing FTIR, EA, and NMR, the results of MTT assay were shown that viability levels of two FR-positive cell lines (HeLa and Ovcar-3) are dependent on time and concentration of [Zn(bpy)FA], whereas, did not show a significant effect on FR-negative cell lines (A549). Also, Real-time PCR revealed that the presence of FA can influence the expression of apoptosis in cervical carcinoma HeLa cells while cisplatin alone doesn't have the ability to trigger apoptosis. Furthermore, the experimental results were evaluated using pharmacophore modeling and molecular docking analysis. Finally, the stability of the Zn(II) complex was surveyed using quantum mechanical studies.

Abstract
The genotoxicity and cytotoxicity of lanthanum (La(III)) were studied in fish micronucleus analysis in erythrocytes of the rare minnow (Gobiocypris rarus). Fish were exposed to 0.04, 08, 0.16, 0.32, and 0.80 mg L-1 of La concentration for 21 days. Several important morphological alterations of the nucleus were noted, such as the ratio of micronucleated erythrocyte, and total ratio of erythrocytes with nuclear anomalies, blebs, notches, and so on. The total ratio of nuclear anomalies was significantly higher (P < 0.05) in G. rarus exposed to La(III) (except for 0.04 mg L-1) compared with the control. Hypsometric analysis indicated significant dose-dependent changes in erythrocyte and nucleus dimensions (P < 0.05). Various abnormal morphological forms of erythrocytes were also observed. These results showed that La(III) was cytotoxic to erythrocytes of the rare minnow.

Abstract
The current cancer research focuses on the design and synthesis of chemical compounds that can modulate cell apoptosis or programmed cell death. So we synthesized and characterized ciprofloxacin based copper(II) complexes and studied their anticancer activity against HCT 116 cancer cells by MTT assay. We further investigated the influence of compound-2 (better IC50 value than cisplatin) on cancer cells to know the exact mechanism of anticancer activity. The distinct morphological change of cells due to compound-2 was observed in bright field microscopy. The trypan blue assay clearly demonstrated inhibition of cell viability. The clonogenic ability inhibition assay showed a low percentage of the plating efficiency of HCT 116 cells. The mechanism of cell death, either apoptotic or necrotic was distinguished by annexin V-FITC/PI (propidium iodide) staining assay and LDH (lactate dehydrogenase) release assay. The positive annexinV/PI cells in presence of compound-2 and absence of LDH in the LDH release assay confirmed the cell apoptotic mechanism of cell death. We also checked in vitro antibacterial activity of compounds against Gram(-ve) and Gram(+ve) bacteria in terms of MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) and the data were in good agreement with the standard drug data. SOD mimic activity of synthesized Cu(II) complexes was also studied in terms of IC50 value. The brine shrimp lethality bioassay was also performed to evaluate the cytotoxic properties of the Cu(II) complexes.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
Whey proteins tend to interact with metal ions, which have implications in different fields related to human life quality. There are two impacts of such interactions: they can provide opportunities for applications in food and nutraceuticals, but may lead to analytical challenges related to their study and outcomes for food processing, storage, and food interactions. Moreover, interactions of whey proteins with metal ions are complicated, requiring deep understanding, leading to consequences, such as metalloproteins, metallocomplexes, nanoparticles, or aggregates, creating a biologically active system. To understand the phenomena of metal-protein interactions, it is important to develop analytical approaches combined with studies of changes in the biological activity and to analyze the impact of such interactions on different fields. The aim of this review was to discuss chemistry of β-lactoglobulin, α-lactalbumin, and lactotransferrin, their interactions with different metal ions, analytical techniques used to study them and the implications for food and nutraceuticals.

Abstract
Salbutamol (SBAL), a kind of short-acting beta 2-adrenergic agonist, has been mainly used to treat bronchial asthma and other allergic airway diseases clinically. In this study, the interaction mechanism between salbutamol and human serum albumin was researched by the multispectral method and molecular docking. The fluorescence intensity of HSA could be regularly enhanced with the increase of SBAL concentration. Both the results of the multispectral method and molecular docking showed that SBAL could bind HSA with van der Waals force and hydrogen bonds. The binding mechanism was further analysed by UV-Vis and synchronous fluorescence spectra. The contents of the secondary structure of free HSA and SBAL-HSA complex were evaluated using CD spectra.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION DataWarrior is open and interactive software for data analysis and visualization that integrates well-established and novel chemoinformatics algorithms in a single environment. Since its public release in 2014, DataWarrior has been used by research groups in universities, government, and industry. Areas covered: Herein, the authors discuss, in a critical manner, the tools and distinct technical features of DataWarrior and analyze the areas of opportunity. Authors also present the most common applications as well as emerging uses in research areas beyond drug discovery with an emphasis on multidisciplinary projects. Expert opinion: In the era of big data and data-driven science, DataWarrior stands out as a technology that combines prediction of physicochemical properties of pharmaceutical interest, cheminformatics calculations, multivariate data analysis, and interactive visualization with dynamic plots. The well-established chemoinformatics tools implemented in DataWarrior, as well as the innovative algorithms, make the technology useful and attractive as revealed by the increasing number of documented applications.
