Abstract
In pilot work, we showed that somatic nerve transfers can restore motor function in long-term decentralized dogs. We continue to explore the effectiveness of motor reinnervation in 30 female dogs. After anesthesia, 12 underwent bilateral transection of coccygeal and sacral (S) spinal roots, dorsal roots of lumbar (L)7, and hypogastric nerves. Twelve months postdecentralization, eight underwent transfer of obturator nerve branches to pelvic nerve vesical branches, and sciatic nerve branches to pudendal nerves, followed by 10 mo recovery (ObNT-ScNT Reinn). The remaining four were euthanized 18 mo postdecentralization (Decentralized). Results were compared with 18 Controls. Squat-and-void postures were tracked during awake cystometry. None showed squat-and-void postures during the decentralization phase. Seven of eight ObNT-ScNT Reinn began showing such postures by 6 mo postreinnervation; one showed a return of defecation postures. Retrograde dyes were injected into the bladder and urethra 3 wk before euthanasia, at which point, roots and transferred nerves were electrically stimulated to evaluate motor function. Upon L2-L6 root stimulation, five of eight ObNT-ScNT Reinn showed elevated detrusor pressure and four showed elevated urethral pressure, compared with L7-S3 root stimulation. After stimulation of sciatic-to-pudendal transferred nerves, three of eight ObNT-ScNT Reinn showed elevated urethral pressure; all showed elevated anal sphincter pressure. Retrogradely labeled neurons were observed in L2-L6 ventral horns (in laminae VI, VIII, and IX) of ObNT-ScNT Reinn versus Controls in which labeled neurons were observed in L7-S3 ventral horns (in lamina VII). This data supports the use of nerve transfer techniques for the restoration of bladder function.NEW & NOTEWORTHY This data supports the use of nerve transfer techniques for the restoration of bladder function.

Abstract
The evaluation of people with neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) often involves objective parameters, however quality of life (QOL) assessments are crucial for patient-centered care. This article discusses how to measure QOL and urinary symptoms in NLUTD and highlights various questionnaires such as the Qualiveen, Neurogenic Bladder Symptom Score (NBSS), and the Incontinence Quality of Life Questionnaire (I-QOL). These questionnaires focus on bladder-related QOL or symptoms and have been validated in multiple NLUTD populations. These tools are important for advancing research and the clinical care of NLUTD patients, and have the potential to impact decision-making and improve patient outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To systematically evaluate the evidence describing the psychometric properties of clinical measures for assessing overactive bladder symptoms (urinary urgency with or without urge urinary incontinence, urinary frequency and nocturia). To evaluate the quality of this evidence-base using the COnsensus-based Standards for selecting health status Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) checklist and the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) tools. DATA SOURCES Five electronic databases (CINAHL, EMBASE, MEDLINE, Scopus and Web of Science) were searched from dataset inception to August 2023. REVIEW METHODS Study screening, data extraction and quality appraisal were performed by two independent authors. Inclusion criteria were studies testing one or more psychometric properties of clinical tools for the assessment of overactive bladder symptoms among adults aged 18 years and older for both sexes. The methodological quality and quality of the evidence were evaluated using the COSMIN checklist and GRADE tools, respectively. RESULTS The search identified 40 studies totalling 10,634 participants evaluating the psychometric properties of 15 clinical tools. The COSMIN methodological quality was rated good for most measures, and the GRADE quality of evidence ranged from low (13%) to high (33%). The Overactive Bladder Symptom Score, Overactive Bladder Questionnaire and Neurogenic Bladder Symptom Score were of good methodological and high-GRADE evidence qualities. CONCLUSION Overactive Bladder Symptom Score, the Overactive Bladder Questionnaire and the Neurogenic Bladder Symptoms Score are promising psychometrically sound measures. The Overactive Bladder Symptom Score has been applied to the most culturally diverse populations supported by studies of good methodological and high-GRADE evidence quality.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify psychometrically robust quality-of-life (QOL) outcome measures for evaluating QOL among people with neurogenic overactive bladder (OAB). STUDY DESIGN Electronic databases (CINAHL, EMBASE, MEDLINE, Scopus and Web of Science) were searched from inception to January 2023. Two independent reviewers participated in study screening, data extraction and quality appraisal. Studies were included if they validated at least one psychometric property of a QOL outcome measure among adults (age ≥ 18 years) with neurogenic OAB. The COnsensus-based Standards for selecting health status Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) checklist and Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) tool were used to evaluate the methodological quality and quality of evidence, respectively, for each included study. RESULTS Database searches identified 47 studies that tested the psychometric properties of 15 QOL measures in a total of 19,994 participants with stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis. The Incontinence Quality of Life Questionnaire (I-QOL), King's Health Questionnaire, Overactive Bladder Questionnaire and Qualiveen were the best validated measures, with strong reliability, validity and responsiveness. I-QOL was the most robust, cross-culturally administered and psychometrically strong measure. The COSMIN checklist indicated sufficient methodological quality for 70% of measures, and the modified GRADE tool indicated quality of evidence ranging from moderate (67%) to high (33%). CONCLUSIONS This review identified the I-QOL as a culturally diverse measure with robust reliability, validity and responsiveness for assessing QOL among people with neurogenic OAB. These findings are supported by studies with good methodological quality (COSMIN) and high-quality evidence (GRADE).

Abstract
Traumatic or non-traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) can lead to severe disability and complications. The incidence of SCI is high, and the rehabilitation cycle is long, which increases the economic burden on patients and the health care system. However, there is no practical method of SCI treatment. Recently, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), a non-invasive brain stimulation technique, has been shown to induce changes in plasticity in specific areas of the brain by regulating the activity of neurons in the stimulation site and its functionally connected networks. TMS is a new potential method for the rehabilitation of SCI and its complications. In addition, TMS can detect the activity of neural circuits in the central nervous system and supplement the physiological evaluation of SCI severity. This review describes the pathophysiology of SCI as well as the basic principles and classification of TMS. We mainly focused on the latest research progress of TMS in the physiological evaluation of SCI as well as the treatment of motor dysfunction, neuropathic pain, spasticity, neurogenic bladder, respiratory dysfunction, and other complications. This review provides new ideas and future directions for SCI assessment and treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Neurogenic Bladder Symptom Score-Short Form (NBSS-SF) evaluates the impact of disease-specific symptoms on the quality of life in individuals with neurogenic bladder (NB). There is no data on the validity and reliability of the NBSS-SF questionnaire in the Arabic language, so this study aimed to examine the psychometric characteristics of the Arabic NBSS-SF in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). METHODS International standards were followed when culturally adapting the questionnaire. The Arabic version was conducted in patients with neurogenic bladder caused by SCI twice within a 14 day period. Psychometric properties such as content validity, construct validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability were tested. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha, and the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC), respectively. Construct validity was assessed by comparing the NBSS-SF with the Short Form (SF-12) and the Qualiveen questionnaire. RESULTS One hundred and one patients with SCI participated in the study. The internal consistency for the overall NBSS-SF score (Cronbach's α of 0.82) and for each subdomain was variable (urinary incontinence 0.84; storage/voiding 0.72; consequences 0.57). ICC was 0.91 for the overall score and 0.94 for the urinary incontinence subdomain, 0.72 for storage/voiding, and 0.90 for consequences. The correlation analysis showed that the Arabic version of NBSS-SF has good construct validity. CONCLUSION Our results showed that the Arabic version of NBSS-SF is a valid and reliable instrument for evaluating NB symptoms in the Arabic population suffering from SCI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The impact of bladder care and urinary complications on quality of life in persons with spinal cord injury who have neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction has not been elucidated, especially in those living in low-resource countries. METHODS This multinational cross-sectional survey was conducted in rehabilitation facilities in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Community-dwelling adults with traumatic or nontraumatic spinal cord injury participating in the International Spinal Cord Injury Community Survey from 2017 to 2018 were enrolled. Data regarding bladder management/care, presence of bladder dysfunction, urinary tract infection, and quality of life score were extracted from the International Spinal Cord Injury Community Survey questionnaire. The impact of bladder care and urinary complications on quality of life was determined using univariable and multivariable regression analysis. RESULTS Questionnaires from 770 adults were recruited for analysis. After adjusting for all demographic and spinal cord injury-related data, secondary conditions, as well as activity and participation factors, urinary tract infection was an independent negative predictive factor of quality of life score ( P = 0.007, unstandardized coefficients = -4.563, multivariable linear regression analysis, enter method). CONCLUSIONS Among bladder care and urinary complication factors, urinary tract infection is the only factor negatively impacting quality of life. These results address the importance of proper bladder management and urinary tract infection prevention in persons with spinal cord injury to improve their quality of life.

Abstract
Scientists are concerned that the research they conduct accurately portrays the needs of people living with spinal cord injuries (SCI). As such, this study set out to investigate the main problems faced by people with SCI and their expectations for research. This quantitative, exploratory, analytical, and cross-sectional study was carried out online, with a non-probabilistic sample of 618 Brazilian adults with SCI who had registered voluntarily to participate in the research of the Neurorehab group. The virtual questionnaire consisted of 22 questions based on ISCOS Data Sets. The majority (68.9%) of participants were male, with higher education or a post-graduate qualification (49.5%). Most injuries had experienced traumatic injuries (78.5%) and 58.7% were paraplegic. The mean age was 38.04 years (SD = 9.85). The main difficulties faced after SCI were locomotion/accessibility (70.9%), neurogenic bladder (68.8%), neurogenic bowel (48.2%), and sexuality (36.1%). The highest demand was for experimental studies on stem cells (22.5%), rehabilitation (14.2%), and cures (13.9%). Most (84.3%) of those who reported sexuality problems after SCI were men (p = 0.013). The findings obtained empower people with SCI by enabling them to influence the agenda of scientific research based on their expectations and difficulties. This survey will also aid organizations to engage stakeholders to implement a comprehensive SCI management program.

Abstract
Spinal sacral nerve injury represents one of the most serious conditions associated with many diseases such as sacral fracture, tethered cord syndrome and sacral canal tumor. Spinal sacral nerve injury could cause bladder denervation and detrusor underactivity. There is limited clinical experience resolving spinal sacral nerve injury associated detrusor underactivity patients, and thus the treatment options are also scarce. In this study, we established a spinal sacral nerve injury animal model for deeper understanding and further researching of this disease. Forty 8 w (week) old Sprague Dawley rats were included and equally divided into sham (n = 20) and crush group (n = 20). Bilateral spinal sacral nerves of rats were crushed in crush group, and sham group received same procedure without nerve crush. Comprehensive evaluations at three time points (1 w, 4 w and 6 w) were performed to comprehend the nature process of this disease. According to urodynamic test, ultrasonography and retrograde urography, we could demonstrate severe bladder dysfunction after spinal sacral nerve injury along the observation period compared with sham group. These functional changes were further reflected by histological examination (hematoxylin-eosin and Masson's trichrome staining) of microstructure of nerves and bladders. Immunostaining of nerve/bladder revealed schwann cell death, axon degeneration and collagen remodeling of bladder. Polymerase Chain Reaction results revealed vigorous nerve inflammation and bladder fibrosis 1 week after injury and inflammation/fibrosis returned to normal at 4 w. The CatWalk gait analysis was performed and there was no obvious difference between two groups. In conclusion, we established a reliable and reproducible model for spinal sacral nerve injury, this model provided an approach to evaluate the treatment strategies and to understand the pathological process of spinal sacral nerve injuries. It allowed us to understand how nerve degeneration and bladder fibrosis changed following spinal sacral nerve injury and how recovery could be facilitated by therapeutic options for further research.

Abstract
AIMS To analyze the epidemiological profile and quality of life (QoL) of patients with special needs and overload their caregivers. METHODS AND RESULTS Health-related QoL was assessed in a quantitative, observational, cross-sectional study of prospective characteristics using the WHOQOL-BREF and ZARIT-22 questionnaires. This study included 122 patients were included; they were divided into patients without caregiver assistance (n = 63) who answered WHOQOL-BREF, 49 caregivers (n = 49) who responded to ZARIT-22, and 10 patients were secondarily caregivers of their parents and answered the ZARIT-22 + WHOQOL-BREF questionnaires. The WHOQOL-BREF general score was 71.94 ± 10.58, and patients born in urban areas and married had positive correlations (p < .05) with the QoL scores in the physical and social domains. ZARIT-22 scores showed an average of 58.63 ± 14.07. Data cross-checking revealed that patients of white races (p = .030) and who lived in urban regions (p = .003) generated less overload to caregivers. CONCLUSION In the WHOQOL-BREF analysis, family income was a factor with direct impact, and all caregivers referred to moderate-to-high overload, with an increase in prevalence as far away from the service the patient resides.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Prospective validation study. OBJECTIVES To validate and evaluate the measurement properties of the German Qualiveen short-form (SF) questionnaire in individuals with chronic neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) resulting from spinal cord injury (SCI). SETTING Tertiary neuro-urologic referral center in Switzerland. METHODS Fifty individuals with chronic (>12 months) NLUTD resulting from SCI presenting for a urodynamic follow-up examination were enrolled to complete both the full version Qualiveen and the SF-Qualiveen questionnaires twice within three weeks. The criterion validity and test-retest reliability were evaluated by calculating the interclass correlation coefficients. Internal consistency was evaluated by calculating Cronbach's alpha. Finally, the cross-sectional construct validity was evaluated using Spearman's rank correlations between the scores of the two questionnaires for bladder evacuation, urinary continence, and urinary tract infection sub-groups. RESULTS The mean age of the evaluated individuals was 53 years. The median duration of NLUTD was 14.9 years. The SF-Qualiveen showed good to excellent criterion validity with correlation coefficients greater than 0.8. Internal consistency was good overall and in the domains "bother with limitations" as well as "feelings" (>0.75). However, internal consistency in the domains "frequency of limitations" and "fears" was moderate-poor (0.68-0.37). The test-retest reliability was excellent with correlation coefficients greater than 0.9. Finally, the cross-sectional construct validity ranged from moderate to excellent (0.60-0.97). CONCLUSIONS The German SF-Qualiveen has shown excellent reliability and validity and variable internal consistency. Its brevity will increase compliance, and we therefore recommend to include the SF-Qualiveen in urologic assessments.

Abstract
Background While clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) is the gold standard for bladder management after spinal cord injury (SCI), many individuals with SCI, for reasons not fully understood, choose alternative bladder management. We hypothesized that CIC is associated with an increased time burden in individuals with SCI. Objectives To investigate the time required to perform neurogenic bladder management in individuals with SCI. Methods An electronic nonvalidated questionnaire was designed to determine the self-reported time spent performing bladder management. It was sent to participants in the Neurogenic Bladder Research Group SCI Registry, a national quality of life study of individuals with SCI. Results Eighty-seven individuals responded to the survey. CIC was the most common bladder management (76%). Men and women performing independent CIC had similar average times with each catheterization episode (8.8 vs. 8.5 minutes, p = .864) as did women with a catheterizable stoma compared to women catheterizing per urethra (8.2 minutes, p = .913). Longer catheterization times were associated with cervical spine injury (mean 12.4 minutes per catheterization) and women requiring caregiver assistance (mean 20 minutes per catheterization). In addition, obese/overweight women had longer CIC times than normal weight women (14.5 minutes vs. 7 minutes; p = .036), while catheterization time was similar for all men regardless of body mass index. Individuals with indwelling catheters spent less than a third of the time on bladder management per day compared to those doing CIC (17 vs. 53 minutes per day, p < .001). Conclusion Management of neurogenic bladder after SCI, especially in those performing CIC, is time consuming. This time burden may play a role in long-term bladder management decisions.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Descriptive Psychometrics Study OBJECTIVES: Neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD), or "neurogenic bladder" is a common and disruptive condition for individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) and disease (including multiple sclerosis, MS). Our team has developed patient-centered instruments of urinary symptoms specific to patients with NLUTD, across bladder management methods. Validity evidence is needed to support the use of two new instruments, Urinary Symptom Questionnaires for people with Neurogenic Bladder (USQNB) for those who manage their bladder with indwelling catheters (IDC), or who void (V). SETTING Online surveys completed by individuals in the United States with NLUTD due to either SCI or MS who manage their bladder with indwelling catheters (SCI, n = 306; MS, n = 8), or by voiding (SCI, n = 103; MS, n = 383). A total of n = 381 USQNB-IDC respondents (five control groups), and 351 USQNB-V respondents (four control groups), contributed to our convergent and divergent validity evidence. METHODS Data were collected online to estimate key aspects of psychometric validity (content, reflection of the construct to be measured; face, recognizability of the contents as representing the construct to be measured; structural, the extent to which the instrument captures recognizable dimensions of the construct to be measured). Divergent and convergent validity evidence was derived from multiple control groups, while evidence of criterion validity was derived from attribution of each item to their experience "with a UTI". RESULTS Evidence of face, content, criterion, convergent, and divergent validity was compiled for each instrument. CONCLUSIONS The instruments demonstrate adequate, multi-dimensional, validity evidence to recommend their use for decision-making by patients, clinicians, and researchers.

Abstract
We determined the effect of pelvic organ decentralization and reinnervation 1 yr later on urinary bladder histology and function. Nineteen canines underwent decentralization by bilateral transection of all coccygeal and sacral (S) spinal roots, dorsal roots of lumbar (L)7, and hypogastric nerves. After exclusions, eight were reinnervated 12 mo postdecentralization with obturator-to-pelvic and sciatic-to-pudendal nerve transfers, then euthanized 8-12 mo later. Four served as long-term decentralized only animals. Before euthanasia, pelvic or transferred nerves and L1–S3 spinal roots were stimulated and maximum detrusor pressure (MDP) recorded. Bladder specimens were collected for histological and ex vivo smooth muscle contractility studies. Both reinnervated and decentralized animals showed less or denuded urothelium, fewer intramural ganglia, and more inflammation and collagen, than controls, although percent muscle was maintained. In reinnervated animals, pgp9.5+ axon density was higher compared with decentralized animals. Ex vivo smooth muscle contractions in response to KCl correlated positively with submucosal inflammation, detrusor muscle thickness, and pgp9.5+ axon density. In vivo, reinnervated animals showed higher MDP after stimulation of L1–L6 roots compared with their transected L7–S3 roots, and reinnervated and decentralized animals showed lower MDP than controls after stimulation of nerves (due likely to fibrotic nerve encapsulation). MDP correlated negatively with detrusor collagen and inflammation, and positively with pgp9.5+ axon density and intramural ganglia numbers. These results demonstrate that bladder function can be improved by transfer of obturator nerves to pelvic nerves at 1 yr after decentralization, although the fibrosis and inflammation that developed were associated with decreased contractile function.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the scoring approach, considering interpretability, validity, and use, of a new patient-centered patient reported outcome (PRO), the Urinary Symptom Questionnaire for Neurogenic Bladder-Intermittent Catheter version (USQNB-IC). DESIGN Subject matter experts (researchers, clinicians, a consumer, a psychometrician) classified USQNB-IC items. Profiles were then composed based on self-management decisions made by patients; patient management decisions made by clinicians; and research-oriented decisions made by investigators. Participants in an 18-month pilot study completed the USQNB-IC every week. Differences in decisions based on traditional 'total scores' and profiles were examined. Validity was defined based on alignment of scoring method with decisions. SETTING A new set of patient-centered PROs enable monitoring and decision-making around urinary signs and symptoms among people with neurogenic bladder (NB). PARTICIPANTS Classifications of USQNB-IC items by subject matter experts. Utility of the classifications and profiles that were created was assessed using weekly responses from the 6-month baseline period from 103 participants in a pilot study. INTERVENTIONS Not applicable. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Classification of the 29 symptoms resulted in four categories with exchangeability within-category and nonexchangeability across categories. The burden of each symptom type is one approach to scoring the USQNB-IC. Five profiles, based on these categories, emerged based on, and supportive of, decisions to be made according to symptoms, representing a categorical approach to scoring the USQNB-IC. RESULTS USQNB-IC items are not all exchangeable. Four symptom classifications comprise within-class exchangeable items. Five profiles emerged to summarize these items to promote decision-making and identification of change over time. Both ways to "score" the USQNB-IC are described and discussed. CONCLUSIONS "Profiling" promotes valid and interpretable decisions by patients and clinicians, based on a patient's urinary symptoms with the USQNB-IC cross-sectionally and longitudinally. Alternatively, four subsets of the 29 USQNB-IC symptoms can be used as continuous outcomes representing "burden" in clinical management or research.

Abstract
Background: Quality of life (QoL) is an important parameter to monitor during rehabilitation; however, accurate assessment is challenging. Among individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI), assessing QoL is further challenged due to complex sequelae, such as secondary health conditions and factors related to community integration. A Participation and Quality of Life (PAR-QoL) toolkit was created to aid clinicians and researchers in the selection of QoL outcomes tools specific to SCI. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the use and usability of the PAR-QoL toolkit. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using an online survey from December 2013 to November 2016. Google Analytics were collected from April 2012 to April 2018. Survey sections addressed "use" (behavioral practices and actual use) and "usability" (perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness). Any person who visited the PAR-QoL website was invited to complete the survey. Summary statistics and percent concordances were calculated to describe results from the survey and Google Analytics. Results: The PAR-QoL website had 188,577 users. The five most visited webpages were outcome tools, with bounce rates ranging from 77% to 90%. Of the 46 survey respondents, 67% were not current users of the PAR-QoL website, and 87% intended to use the resources in the future. Conclusion: Uptake of the PAR-QoL website is currently limited. Usability of the PAR-QoL website may be improved by modifying navigation, removing the "less useful" components, ensuring regular updates of content and resources, and promoting the website.

Abstract
Objective: To provide an overview of clinical assessments and diagnostic tools, self-report measures (SRMs) and data sets used in neurogenic bladder and bowel (NBB) dysfunction and recommendations for their use with persons with spinal cord injury /disease (SCI/D).Methods: Experts in SCI/D conducted literature reviews, compiled a list of NBB related assessments and measures, reviewed their psychometric properties, discussed their use in SCI/D and issued recommendations for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Common Data Elements (CDEs) guidelines.Results: Clinical assessments included 15 objective tests and diagnostic tools for neurogenic bladder and 12 for neurogenic bowel. Following a two-phase evaluation, eight SRMs were selected for final review with the Qualiveen and Short-Form (SF) Qualiveen and the Neurogenic Bowel Dysfunction Score (NBDS) being recommended as supplemental, highly-recommended due to their strong psychometrics and extensive use in SCI/D. Two datasets and other SRM measures were recommended as supplemental.Conclusion: There is no one single measure that can be used to assess NBB dysfunction across all clinical research studies. Clinical and diagnostic tools are here recommended based on specific medical needs of the person with SCI/D. Following the CDE for SCI studies guidelines, we recommend both the SF-Qualiveen for bladder and the NBDS for bowel as relatively short measures with strong psychometrics. Other measures are also recommended. A combination of assessment tools (objective and subjective) to be used jointly across the spectrum of care seems critical to best capture changes related to NBB and develop better treatments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study will aim to assess the effectiveness of the rehabilitation training (RT) combined acupuncture for the treatment of patients with neurogenic bladder (NB) secondary to the spinal cord injury (SCI). METHODS We will conduct a comprehensive literature search from the following databases from the inceptions to the present with no language limitation: PUBMED, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, SinoMed, Web of Science, Allied and Complementary Medicine Database, VIP, WANGFANG, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure. Additionally, we will also search gray literature, including dissertations and conference proceedings. RevMan V.5.3 software will be used for the study selection, assessment of bias of bias, and data synthesis. RESULTS This study will synthesize the available evidence of RT combined with acupuncture for NB secondary to SCI, including episodes of urinary incontinence, urinary retention, urinary tract infection, bladder overactivity, quality of life, and adverse events. CONCLUSION This study will determine whether RT combined acupuncture is an effective and safety therapy for NB secondary to SCI. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW REGISTRATION PROSPERO CRD42019146127.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the performance of the new device compared with clean intermittent catheterization (CIC). METHODS From March 2015 to March 2018, patients who were admitted to the urologic outpatient clinic. A new intraurethral self-retaining device (ISRD) was made of medical grade silicone and it was inspired by similar catheters that use sliding disks to adjust or fix tubes used to drain the bladder. Patients were randomized into two groups (experimental group [GI]-ISRD vs control group [GII]-CIC). The evaluation was performed at the time of enrollment and 6 months after treatment. Intervention was initiated from the antisepsis of the perineal region and subsequent introduction of the device through the external urethral meatus. The primary outcome was quality of life (QOL). Urinary tract infections (UTIs) episodes, data on urodynamic parameters, adverse effects and number of diapers per day. RESULTS A total of 177 subjects were analyzed. We found a significant improvement on QOL analysis in the ISRD group (P < .01). ISRD group presented an important reduction (two episodes after ISRD use) on number of UTIs (P < .01) and diaper use, and significant improvement on bladder capacity (80 mL of the average improvement) (P < .01) and compliance (P = .01). Among all registered serious adverse effects, ISRD presented with lower proportion. CONCLUSIONS The new device has shown to be a safe and promising alternative for adequate emptying of the neurogenic bladder in female patients. Our study has a limitation that is related to a limited period of observation.

Abstract
Objectives: To identify and classify tools for assessing the influence of neurogenic bowel dysfunction (NBD) on quality of life (QoL) after spinal cord injury (SCI). Methods: In this systematic review, MEDLINE/PubMed, CINAHL, and PsycInfo were searched to identify studies assessing the influence of NBD on QoL (or related construct) after SCI. Two independent reviewers screened titles and abstracts, and both reviewers classified tools as subjective or objective according to Dijkers' theoretical QoL framework. Results: Seventy-two studies were identified, and 35 studies met the inclusion criteria. Five objective measures assessed the influence of NBD on QoL, which were validated for use in SCI, but no measure was condition-specific to NBD. Eight measures were classified as subjective tools; two had an established reliability and validity for SCI while six had some psychometric evidence for use in the SCI population. Five subjective measures (NBD score, Burwood QoL Questionnaire, Impediments to Community Integration [ICI] Scale, SCI-QoL Bowel Management Difficulties, and Survey of Neurogenic Bowel Characteristics) were developed specifically for SCI. The NBD score showed sensitivity to the influence of NBD on QoL in experimental trials. Conclusion: Thirteen tools assessed the influence of NBD on QoL in SCI. Although not developed specifically for SCI, the Health Utility Index (HUI-III) was the only tool identified that provided data on "QoL as utility" on the impact of NBD. The validated NBD score was the only condition-specific tool to assess QoL as "subjective well-being." Further validation of existing tools could help to inform practice and policy related to resource allocation for bowel care post SCI.
