Abstract
BACKGROUND Gestational diabetes mellitus occurs in approximately 15-17% of pregnant women worldwide and causes high mortality and morbidity for mothers and infants. Pregnant women who are newly diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus experience higher levels of stress and anxiety than pregnant women without this condition. Thus, it is important to identify effective interventions to help pregnant women cope with the additional stress and anxiety associated with pregnancy-related complications. AIM This integrative review aimed to synthesise evidence on the effects of educational interventions for pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus regarding knowledge, self-efficacy, self-care behaviour, anxiety, depression, and birth outcomes. METHODS An integrative review of articles published between 2009 and 2024, written in English and Arabic. The review followed the Whittemore and Knafl's 5-stage process framework. RESULTS From the 922 abstracts identified using search terms, 16 articles were eligible for this review. Psychoeducational interventions were provided for (1) informational support: information about gestational diabetes mellitus, diabetes mellitus, blood glucose monitoring, exercise management, diet management, and stress; (2) motivational support: setting individual goals, enhancing health behaviours, and motivational messages; (3) emotional support: expression of feelings, enforcement of self-management, and sharing of experiences; and (4) relaxation techniques: breathing exercises, meditation, and mindfulness. In this review, only two studies entirely focused on reducing stress and anxiety through cognitive-behavioural stress management training and mindfulness training. The effects of the interventions on self-efficacy, knowledge, depression, anxiety, and birthing outcomes were inconsistent due to variations in intervention designs and duration. However, consistent positive outcomes were found in self-care behaviours. CONCLUSION This integrative review found informational and motivational support were frequently used by pregnant women. In contrast, emotional support and relaxation techniques were rarely used. Psychoeducational interventions may enhance self-care behaviours, improve self-efficacy, and reduce stress and depression for women with gestational diabetes mellitus. Nurses and midwives play an essential role in providing holistic care through comprehensive psychoeducational interventions for pregnant women.

Abstract
PURPOSE Stress during pregnancy has many negative repercussions on maternal and foetal health. It is therefore important to understand which therapies are effective in reducing stress levels and which variables influence the outcomes of these therapies. In this line, psychological resilience could play a key role. Thus, the aim of the study was to check whether pregnant women with different levels of resilience have different benefits in reducing cortisol levels, perceived stress, pregnancy worries, stress vulnerability, anxiety or depression through Cognitive Behavioural Stress Management Therapy. METHOD The total sample consisted of 56 pregnant women: one group of pregnant women with high levels of resilience (n = 35); and another group with low levels of resilience (n = 21). Participants' cortisol concentration levels, perceived stress, pregnancy concerns, stress vulnerability, anxiety and depressive symptoms were assessed before and after therapy. Linear mixed models were performed to compare the two groups, which showed a group x time interaction for perceived stress. RESULTS The low resilience group showed a reduction in their perceived stress levels with a medium effect after the intervention compared to the high resilience group, but no reduction was found in this group. No differences were found between the two groups on the other variables. CONCLUSION Knowing which variables have a differential effect on the results of psychological therapy would allow delimiting the groups that obtain greater benefits from the therapy. This may lead to more efficient implementation of effective intervention programmes.

Abstract
The objective was to evaluate the effects of a stress management cognitive behavioural therapy followed during pregnancy on subsequent childhood on hair cortisol at birth and on neurodevelopment and Hair Cortisol Concentrations (HCC) at 6 months of age. The study sample included 48 pregnant women, divided into two groups: 24 women in the Therapy Group (TG) and 24 women who received standard pregnancy care (control group (CG); CG). To test the therapy efficacy, an evaluation of the HCC and psychological stress, psychopathological symptomatology and resilience was conducted before and after the treatment. The level of cortisol in their hair was obtained during pregnancy and that of their babies at birth. Six months after birth, a cortisol sample was taken from the hair and the babies' neurodevelopment was evaluated based on a Bayley-III test. The TG presented reductions in psychological stress and psychopathological symptomatology after treatment. On the other hand, the CG increased their cortisol concentrations between the pre and post intervention, remaining stable in the TG. Moreover, results showed that TG babies had lower cortisol concentrations at birth and obtained significantly higher cognitive and motor development scores at 6 months. These findings support that providing psychological care to pregnant women may not only have a benefit on these women's mental state, but may also benefit the neurodevelopment of their offspring.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the population's levels of stress and anxiety due to its contagious nature and the uncertainties generated by its novelty. One population that is especially vulnerable to these psychological consequences are pregnant women. This is why the objective of this study was to test the efficacy of an online stress management programme of a cognitive behavioural nature on pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic, in Spain. The trial was controlled and randomised, with a total of 207 pregnant women divided into three groups: the Online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy group (o-CBT) (N = 70); the Online Psychological Support group (o-PS) (N = 69); and the Usual Care group (UC) (N = 68). To test the therapy's efficacy, the women's resilience, perceived stress, pregnancy-specific stress and psychopathological symptoms were assessed before and after the intervention. The o-CBT and o-PS consisted of a programme of 8 group sessions (one per week). The results showed that pregnant women who participated in the o-CBT group presented lower rates of pregnancy-specific stress and perceived stress, as well as greater resilience and lower anxiety, depression and obsessions-compulsions symptoms. These data show the efficacy of the treatment programme and thus confirm the importance of implementing these types of interventions during a woman's pregnancy, especially over periods of major stress, such as during a pandemic.

Abstract
AIMS This meta-analysis aims to update former meta-analyses from randomized controlled trials (RCT) focused on the efficacy of CBT for diabetes. METHODS Five databases were searched for RCTs. Primary outcomes were glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting blood glucose (FBS), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and body mass index (BMI). Secondary outcomes were depression, anxiety and distress symptoms, quality of life, sleep quality. RESULTS 32 RCTs were included. Results revealed that CBT could reduce HbA1c: -0.14% (95% CI: -0.25 to -0.02%, P = 0.020); FBS: -15.48 mg/dl (95% CI: -30.16 to -0.81 mg/dl, P = 0.040); DBP: -2.88 mmHg (95% CI: -4.08 to -1.69 mmHg, P < 0.001); depression symptoms: -0.90 (95% CI: -1.22 to -0.57, P < 0.001); anxiety symptoms: -0.28 (95% CI: -0.50 to -0.07, P = 0.009); improve sleep quality: -0.92 (95% CI: -1.77 to -0.07, P = 0.030). Subgroup analysis indicated that CBT has siginificantly reduced HbA1c when delivered as a group-based and face-to-face method, and psycho-education, behavioral, cognitive, goal-setting, homework assignment strategies were applied as central strategies. CONCLUSION CBT was an effective treatment for diabetes patients, significantly reduced their HbA1c, FBS, DBP, depression and anxiety symptoms, and improved sleep quality.

Abstract
AIMS Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are reports of the patient's health status that come directly from the patient without interpretation by the clinician or anyone else. They are increasingly used in randomised controlled trials (RCTs). In this systematic review we identified RCTs conducted in women with diabetes in pregnancy which included PROs in their primary or secondary outcomes. We then evaluated the quality of PRO reporting against an internationally accepted reporting framework (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT-PRO) guidelines). METHODS We searched online databases for studies published 2013-2021 using a combination of keywords. Two authors reviewed all abstracts independently. Data on study characteristics and the quality of PRO reporting were extracted from relevant studies. We conducted a multiple regression analysis to identify factors associated with high quality reporting. RESULTS We identified 7122 citations. Thirty-five articles were included for review. Only 17% of RCTs included a PRO as a primary or secondary outcome. Out of a maximum score of 100 the median score was 46, indicating sub-optimal reporting. A multiple regression analysis did not reveal any factors associated with high quality reporting. CONCLUSIONS Researchers should be mindful of the importance of PRO inclusion and reporting and include reliable PROs in trials.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effect of nonpharmacological interventions on the mental health of high-risk pregnant women. METHODS This review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 (PRISMA) statement. The Cochrane Library, Embase, CINAHL, PubMed and Web of Science databases were systematically searched for randomized controlled trials and quasi-randomized controlled trials from inception to April 2021. The quality of the studies was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool 2.0. Data were independently extracted and narratively synthesized. RESULTS Fifteen studies involving 1723 pregnant women were selected. Nonpharmacological interventions included cognitive behavioral interventions, yoga, relaxation interventions, psychological and educational support interventions, and acupressure. Cognitive behavioral interventions and yoga for high-risk pregnant women had potential benefits on the symptoms of anxiety, stress and depression. There was insufficient evidence that relaxation interventions, psychological and educational support interventions and acupressure had positive effects on these women's mental health. CONCLUSIONS This review showed that cognitive behavioral interventions and yoga during pregnancy may benefit women with high-risk pregnancies. However, due to methodological limitations of this review, further studies with robust methodological designs are needed to verify the efficacy.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to summarize the current evidence on the effects of nonpharmacological interventions on psychological health outcomes for women with high-risk pregnancies due to conditions such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, or preterm labor. Methods The following databases were searched from January 2000 to December 2020: PubMed, Ovid Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, DBpia, RISS, and KISS. Two investigators independently reviewed and selected articles according to the inclusion/exclusion criteria. RoB 2 and the ROBINS-I checklist were used to evaluate study quality. Results Twenty-nine studies with a combined total of 1,806 pregnant women were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis. Psychological health improvements were found in women with preeclampsia (Hedges' g=-0.67; 95% confidence interval [CI], -0.91 to -0.44), gestational diabetes (Hedges' g=-0.38; 95% CI, -0.54 to -0.12), and preterm labor (Hedges' g=-0.73; 95% CI, -1.00 to -0.46). The funnel plot was slightly asymmetrical, but the fail-safe N value and the trim-and-fill method showed no publication bias. Conclusion Nonpharmacological interventions for women with high-risk pregnancies due to conditions such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and preterm labor can improve psychological parameters such as anxiety, stress, and depression. Nurses can play a pivotal role in the nursing management of pregnant women with high-risk conditions and apply various types of nonpharmacological interventions to meet their needs in uncertain and anxious times during pregnancy.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to analyze the content and effectiveness of psychosocial support interventions for women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Methods The following databases were searched with no limitation of the time period: Ovid-MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, Ovid-Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, NDSL, KoreaMed, RISS, and KISS. Two investigators independently reviewed and selected articles according to the predefined inclusion/exclusion criteria. ROB 2.0 and the RoBANS 2.0 checklist were used to evaluate study quality. Results Based on the 14 selected studies, psychosocial support interventions were provided for the purpose of (1) informational support (including GDM and diabetes mellitus information; how to manage diet, exercise, stress, blood glucose, and weight; postpartum management; and prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus); (2) self-management motivation (setting goals for diet and exercise management, glucose monitoring, and enhancing positive health behaviors); (3) relaxation (practicing breathing and/or meditation); and (4) emotional support (sharing opinions and support). Psychosocial supportive interventions to women with GDM lead to behavioral change, mostly in the form of self-care behavior; they also reduce depression, anxiety and stress, and have an impact on improving self-efficacy. These interventions contribute to lowering physiological parameters such as fasting plasma glucose, glycated hemoglobin, and 2-hour postprandial glucose levels. Conclusion Psychosocial supportive interventions can indeed positively affect self-care behaviors, lifestyle changes, and physiological parameters in women with GDM. Nurses can play a pivotal role in integrative management and can streamline the care for women with GDM during pregnancy and following birth, especially through psychosocial support interventions.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to identify the effects of nursing intervention programs for women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) through a critical review of recent studies. Methods Studies related to effects of nursing intervention programs for women with GDM published in English or Korean between 2000 and 2019 were extracted from 10 electronic databases. The quality of the studies was evaluated and double-checked for accuracy by two reviewers using the Revised Cochrane Risk-of-Bias tool for randomized controlled trials. Results Twenty studies were selected, of which 19 had a low risk of bias and one had a high risk of bias. Interventions fell into six main groups: (1) integrated interventions, (2) self-monitoring of blood glucose levels, (3) dietary interventions, (4) exercise, (5) psychotherapy, and (6) complementary therapy. This review found that nursing interventions for GDM were of many types, and integrated interventions were the most common. However, low-carbohydrate diets and blood glucose monitoring interventions did not show statistically significant results. Evidence shows that various nursing intervention programs applied to GDM improved diverse aspects of maternal, fetal, and neonatal health, including both physical and psychological aspects. Conclusion The composition and delivery of integrated interventions continue to evolve, and these interventions affect physical and psychological indicators. Although interventions affecting physical health indicators (e.g., blood glucose levels, diet, and exercise) are important, many studies have shown that programs including psycho-emotional nursing interventions related to anxiety, depression, stress, self- efficacy, and self-management are also highly useful.

Abstract
AIM To quantify the effect of mind-body interventions on stress in pregnant women. DESIGN A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was performed. DATA SOURCES PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, Web of Science and PsycINFO were searched from each database inception to January 2020. REVIEW METHODS Randomized controlled trials regarding mind-body interventions for stress in pregnant women were included. Methodological quality was evaluated using the Cochrane Collaboration 'Risk of Bias' tool and meta-analysis was performed via RevMan 5.3. Subgroup analysis and publication bias assessment were conducted. Post hoc sensitivity analysis was performed to investigate the source of heterogeneity. RESULTS In total, 28 studies comprising 1944 participants were included. The overall meta-analysis showed that antenatal stress of pregnant women in the mind-body interventions groups showed significant high improvements (SMD=-0.94; 95% CI [-1.25, -0.63]; p < .00001) compared with the control groups. Results of subgroup analyses indicated that all types of mind-body interventions including mindfulness intervention, cognitive behavioural therapy, relaxation techniques and yoga were beneficial to antenatal stress. Both groups and individual formats mind-body interventions were effective. 4-8 weeks mind-body interventions were seemed as the optimal choice. Moreover, mind-body interventions were concomitant with reducing antenatal anxiety and depression. CONCLUSION Mind-body interventions are promising approaches for stress reduction in pregnant women. Nevertheless, the results should be interpreted with caution because of high heterogeneity and publication bias. Further high-quality studies are needed to verify the findings. IMPACT Mind-body interventions have been widely implemented to ameliorate antenatal stress, but conflicting results were found across studies. This systematic review and meta-analysis suggested that mind-body interventions are relatively safe and convenient and can successfully promote antenatal stress. The suggestions proposed in this review may be useful for developing a scientific mind-body interventions regimen and encouraging the application of mind-body interventions in pregnant women, thereby managing antenatal stress effectively.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To demonstrate the effectiveness of a cognitive behavioural therapy for stress management in pregnant women in the reduction of psychological stress and hair cortisol levels. METHODS The trial was controlled and randomised, with a total of 78 pregnant women: control group (n-39) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy group (n-39). To test the therapy's efficacy, an evaluation of the primary outcome (hair cortisol levels) and secondary outcomes (psychological stress, psychopathological symptomatology and resilience) was conducted before and after the treatment. The therapy was conducted during 8 sessions (one per week) in a group setting. The study was registered as a Randomised Controlled Trial with the code NCT03404141. RESULTS The results showed a group time interaction between hair cortisol levels, psychological stress (perceived and pregnancy-specific), and in the exacerbation and severity of psychopathological symptoms. These variables presented reductions after treatment only in the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy group. CONCLUSIONS Using a novel way of assessing chronic stress (psychological and objective measures as hair cortisol levels), this is the first study that has shown a decrease in both the levels of cortisol in hair and in psychological stress. This decline could have implications for maternal and fetal health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dysregulations in maternal hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal function and the end product, cortisol, have been associated with a heightened risk for stress-related health complications during pregnancy and post partum. Given the adverse health impact that maternal cortisol may have on expectant mothers and their infants, empirically-based prenatal interventions are needed to target optimal management of stress and its biological effects in at-risk pregnant women, a primary example of which is cognitive behavioral stress management (CBSM). This randomized-controlled trial examined the effects of a prenatal CBSM intervention on reduction in perceived stress and regulation of salivary cortisol patterns [i.e., overall cortisol output (area under the curve), cortisol awakening response (CAR), diurnal slope] during pregnancy and the early postpartum period, as compared to a control group. METHODS One hundred low-income pregnant women (71% Latina; 76% annual income < $20 K) with low or high anxiety during pregnancy were randomized (stratified by anxiety) to either an eight-week CBSM group intervention (n = 55) or a control group (n = 45). They provided seven salivary cortisol samples (four am samples, 12 pm, 4 pm, and 8 pm samples on one collection day) at baseline (1st trimester; < 17 weeks of gestation), after their prenatal program (2nd trimester), and also in the third trimester and at three months post partum. RESULTS Women receiving CBSM had lower perceived stress levels throughout pregnancy and early post partum compared to women in the control group (p = .020). Among women with high prenatal anxiety, those in CBSM showed a steeper decline in their diurnal cortisol at three months post partum compared to those in the control group (p = .015). Further, non-Latina women in CBSM had a lower CAR at three months post partum compared to non-Latina women in the control group (p = .025); these randomization group differences on the CAR were not observed among Latina women. CONCLUSIONS These findings provide preliminary support for the efficacy of prenatal CBSM interventions in improving stress outcomes among low-income pregnant women and suggest the need to test the effects of these interventions on a larger scale for improving maternal and infant health outcomes long-term.
