Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the role of emotional state in the masticatory system function in a group of young adults. METHODS Ninety-six generally healthy randomly selected students aged 18-21 were examined. They were subjected to a questionnaire survey determining their emotional state, clinical examination, and instrumental diagnostics (EMG, Cadiax Compact, JVA). RESULTS The stress symptoms group revealed a greater intensity of neck and shoulder muscles pain (p < 0.05) and an increase of electrical potential of the masseter muscles in maximal voluntary clench (p < 0.05). They reported more often headache (p < 0.001), tension/contracture of the head, neck and nape (p < 0.05), and pain while opening the mouth wide (p < 0.05). The values of parameters obtained in the instrumental diagnostics did not reveal differences between the groups. CONCLUSION Stressful situations increase muscular tension but do not have a direct impact on the temporomandibular joints function.

Abstract
Considerable work has advanced understanding of the nature, causes, management, and prevention of anxiety disorders in children and adolescents over the past 30 years. Prior to this time the primary focus was on school refusal and specific phobias. It is now recognised that children and adolescents experience the full gamut of anxiety disorders in very similar ways to adults and that anxiety disorders in the paediatric years can predict a lifelong mental-health struggle. Given the vast array of specific studies in this field, the current review summarises current knowledge about these high prevalence disorders, points to overarching limitations, and suggests potentially important future directions. Following a brief historical overview, the review summarises knowledge about demographic and epidemiological characteristics, distal and proximal risk factors, current treatment directions, and prevention. There is still a great deal to learn about the causes and treatments of child and adolescent anxiety disorders. By amalgamating our current knowledge, this review provides a window to the research directions that are likely to lead to future advances.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study examined client ratings of 26 facilitators and barriers to anxiety improvement approximately 6 years after randomization to treatment for anxiety. METHOD 319 youth (average 17.12 years old; 82.1% Caucasian; 58.6% female) participated in the longitudinal follow-up study to child and adolescent anxiety multimodal study (CAMS), a randomized controlled trial of medication, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), combination, and placebo. RESULTS Correcting for multiple comparisons, CBT components (i.e., problem solving, changing unhelpful thoughts, relaxation skills) were rated significantly more helpful among youth without, versus with, an anxiety disorder at follow-up. Barriers that differentiated youth with and without an anxiety disorder included being bullied and difficulty applying therapy content to new situations. Comparisons between youth with different anxiety disorder trajectories (e.g., stable remission, relapsed, or chronically ill) also revealed several differences. CONCLUSION Findings suggest that client-rated facilitators and barriers covary with anxiety disorder recovery and may serve as useful tools when evaluating long-term treatment efficacy.

Abstract
Aims Somatic complaints are a frequent cause for consultation in primary care. In a transcultural context, somatic complaints are typically associated with psychological distress. A recent review about somatic symptom disorders in adolescence showed some nosographic heterogeneity and outlined various etiological hypotheses (traumatic, environmental, or neurologic), separate from the cross-cultural considerations. Migrants' children encounter specific problems involving cultural mixing-issues of filiation (familial transmission) and affiliation (belonging to a group). This paper aims to provide a systematic review of somatization in transcultural contexts among teenagers and young adults, aged 13 to 24, over the past decade. Methods This review adheres to the quality criteria set forth by the PRISMA guidelines (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses). Two authors queried three English databases (Medline, PsycInfo, WebOfScience) about somatization in transcultural contexts (migrant or non-Western population) among teenagers (13-18), young adults (19-24), or both. The methodological process comprised articles selection, data extraction, and then the analysis of emerging themes. Setting selection criteria to limit the transcultural field was difficult. Results The study analyzed 68 articles. We present a descriptive analysis of the results, centered on three main themes. First, the literature highlights a nosographic muddle reflected in the combination of anxious and depressive symptoms together with the highly variable symptomatology. Second, discrimination issues were prevalent among the migrant population. Lastly, the literature review points out possibilities for improving a care pathway and reducing the diagnostic delay induced by migrants' hesitancy about Western care and the recurrent use of inappropriate diagnostic criteria. Conclusion This review discusses the links between the nosographic muddle described here and the diagnostic delays these patients experience and raises concerns about rigid diagnostic compartmentalization. The work of the psychiatrist Frantz Fanon is here useful to understand externalized symptoms resulting from physical and psychological confinement. Discrimination issues raise questions about the cultural counter-transference health professionals experience in dealing with young migrants. Defining healthcare professionals' representations about somatic complaints in a transcultural context might be a fruitful path to explore in future research. Abstract
Pediatric anxiety disorders are common and often debilitating conditions. Cognitive is a psychosocial intervention that represents a potentially powerful antidote to these disorders. This article reviews data from treatment outcome studies, meta-analyses, and systematic reviews as well as from moderation/mediational investigations. The literature supports the efficacy, effectiveness, and durability of positive treatment outcomes for pediatric anxiety disorders. Recommendations for clinical applications are suggested.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Body expression of mental disorders is common in adolescence. Only two literature reviews over the last five years have been identified about somatoform disorders in children., The present article provides a systematic review of articles in English, which concern "Somatic Symptom and Related Disorders" according to the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual - 5th Edition) among adolescents. METHODS The article search was made on Medline, Psychinfo, Google Scholar, BiomedCentral, Central and tripdatabase (for grey literature) according to PRISMA criteria and with the items "somatoform disorders" or "somatic symptom disorders". An age filter was applied for "adolescents", and a selection was done from the last five years. All articles concerning adolescents (often associated with children) were initially included, except for articles concerning eating disorders, dysmorphic disorders or adult population. Comments, editorials, opinion or descriptive articles were also excluded. The authors then carried out an analysis of the main topics, themes and questions covered in the selected publications and presented a descriptive synthesis. RESULTS A total of seventy-seven publications were included in the analysis, from three hundred and seventy-two publications. First, the terms used to refer to these "somatic symptom disorders" were varied, such as "somatization", "somatic complaints/symptoms", "functional disorder", "unexplained symptoms" and "somatoform disorders". Then, studies related just to adolescents were limited: most of studies included children and adolescents in their methodologies; and some of them questioned somatic symptoms from a developmental perspective. Case reports were the most represented articles among all medical specialties, with clinical descriptions about "functional neurological symptom disorder", "factitious disorder" and "somatic symptom disorder" with a medical disease, among children and adolescents. We sometimes observed a controversial borderline between psychological and somatic disorders. Various explanatory models appeared, especially the trauma path; familial and social environment was also pointed out, with a possible peer group effect; neurocognitive theories were finally described. The literature highlights the effectiveness of psychosocial therapies (especially the cognitive-behavioral therapy) and the importance of multidisciplinary management. Finally, a few studies with a qualitative methodology are represented. CONCLUSIONS Only nine articles included "somatic symptom disorder" in their titles, despite a terminology valued by many authors (compared to "somatoform disorders" from the DSM-IV). The heterogeneity of terminologies, case reports and explanatory models witness a lack of connexions between medical specialties. This could explain in part the wandering of adolescents and their families in the health care system. It could also contribute to the delay before diagnosis, especially when neurological symptoms exist, and a late referral for psychiatric consultation. Further studies are needed to understand difficulties to use a clinical pathway among medical specialties, when the benefit of amultidisciplinary approach seems to be unanimous.

Abstract
The use of SSRIs for the treatment of depression and anxiety in young people is increasing. However, the effects of SSRIs in adolescence, a time when there are substantial changes in neural, cognitive, and social functioning, are not well understood. Here, we review evidence from clinical trials about the benefits and risks of SSRIs in young people and consider their mechanisms of action, as shown through human experimental work and animal models. We emphasise key outstanding questions about the effects of SSRIs in youth, identified through gaps in the literature and in consultation with young people with lived experience. It is crucial to characterise the mechanisms underpinning risks and benefits of SSRIs in this age group to progress the field, and to narrow the chasm between the widespread use of SSRIs in youth and the science on which this use is based.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Anxiety disorders first emerge during the critical developmental periods of childhood and adolescence. This review synthesizes recent findings on the prevalence, risk factors, and course of the anxiety disorders; and their neurobiology and treatment. METHODS For this review, searches were conducted using PubMed, PsycINFO, and clinicaltrials.gov. Findings related to the epidemiology, neurobiology, risk factors, and treatment of pediatric anxiety disorders were then summarized. FINDINGS Anxiety disorders are high prevalence, and early-onset conditions associated with multiple risk factors including early inhibited temperament, environment stress, and structural and functional abnormalities in the prefrontal-amygdala circuitry as well as the default mode and salience networks. The anxiety disorders are effectively treated with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). CONCLUSIONS Anxiety disorders are high prevalence, early-onset conditions associated with a distinct neurobiological fingerprint, and are consistently responsive to treatment. Questions remain regarding who is at risk of developing anxiety disorders as well as the way in which neurobiology predicts treatment response.

Abstract
Objective: To identify mental health and treatment utilization correlates of somatic symptoms.Participants: Undergraduate students (N = 184) were recruited through an online research portal from November 2017 to May 2018. Methods: Cross-sectional survey. Results: Somatic symptoms were significantly correlated with public stigma, depression, and anxiety. Controlling for demographics, somatic symptoms, depression scores, and belief in the effectiveness of therapy emerged as concurrent predictors of mental health treatment use in logistic regression analyses. Conclusions: Given the detrimental effects of somatic symptoms on health outcomes and academic performance, universal screening of somatic and psychiatric symptoms in primary care and mental health settings serving college students is warranted. Future research should differentiate between patients who experience somatic versus affective symptoms of depression. In addition, researchers should examine the degree to which addressing the relationship between somatic and psychological symptoms can help lessen the added burden of somatic symptoms on individuals' functioning.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pediatric anxiety disorders are highly prevalent and associated with significant functional disabilities and lifelong morbidity. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), sertraline, and their combination are effective treatments, but little is known about how these treatments exert their effects. METHODS Using network intervention analysis (NIA), we analyzed data from the largest randomized controlled treatment trial of pediatric anxiety disorders (Child/Adolescent Anxiety Multimodal Study, NCT00052078, clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00052078) and outlined the causal symptom domain-specific effects of CBT, sertraline, and their combination over the course of the 12-week treatment while taking into account both specificity and overlap between symptom domains. RESULTS All active treatments produced positive effects with the most pronounced and consistent effects emerging in relation to psychological distress, family interference, and avoidance. Psychological distress was consistently the most and physical symptoms the least central symptom domain in the disorder network. CONCLUSIONS All active treatments showed beneficial effects when compared to placebo, and NIA identified that these effects were exerted similarly across treatments and primarily through a reduction of psychological distress, family interference, and avoidance. CBT and sertraline may have differential mechanisms of action in relation to psychological distress. Given the lack of causal effects on interference outside family and physical symptoms, interventions tailored to target these domains may aid in the building of more effective treatments. Psychological distress and avoidance should remain key treatment focuses because of their central roles in the disorder network. The findings inform and promote developing more effective interventions.

Abstract
Objective Treatment specificity and long-term recovery mediation of peer-involvement group cognitive behavioral therapy (GCBT) and parent-involvement CBT (PCBT) were investigated for youth anxiety disorders. Method 240 youths with primary anxiety diagnoses participated in a randomized controlled efficacy trial. Youth anxiety and peer variables/mediators (positive peer-youth relationships; social skills), and parent variables/mediators (psychological control; negative parent-youth relationships) were assessed. Results At posttreatment and 12-month follow up, positive peer-youth relationships were significantly higher in GCBT than PCBT (specificity). At posttreatment, not follow up, parental psychological control was significantly lower in PCBT than GCBT (specificity). Parental psychological control and positive peer-youth relationships were putative mediators. The two CBTs produced similar anxiety reductions through different mechanisms. Conclusions CBT targets show specificity and mediation, providing insight into specific mechanisms through which GCBT and PCBT bring about anxiety reduction and guidance for streamlining these CBTs in practice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To report functional outcomes from the multisite Child/Adolescent Anxiety Multimodal Extended Long-term Study (CAMELS), which examined the impact of youth anxiety treatment (cognitive-behavioral therapy [CBT], coping cat; Sertraline, SRT; COMB [CBT + SRT]; pill placebo) on (a) global and (b) domain-specific functioning assessed an average of 3.1 times, 3- to 12-years postrandomization (first assessment = mean 6.5 years postrandomization). METHOD Three-hundred and 19 of 488 families from the Child/Adolescent Anxiety Multimodal Study (CAMS; Walkup et al., 2008) participated. Growth curve modeling examined the impact of treatment condition and acute treatment outcomes (i.e., response, remission) on global functioning, global and domain-specific impairment, and life satisfaction across follow-up visits. Logistic regressions explored the impact of treatment remission and condition on low frequency events (arrests/convictions) and education. RESULTS Treatment responders and remitters demonstrated better global functioning, decreased overall impairment, and increased life satisfaction at follow-up. Treatment remission, but not response, predicted decreased domain-specific impairment (social relationships, self-care/independence, academic functioning), and maintenance of increased life satisfaction across follow-ups. Participants in the CBT condition, compared with pill placebo, demonstrated improved trajectories pertaining to life satisfaction, overall impairment, and impairment in academic functioning. Randomization to CBT or COMB treatment was associated with increasing employment rates. Trajectories for participants randomized to SRT was not significantly different from placebo. Treatment outcome and condition did not predict legal outcomes, school/work variables, or family life. CONCLUSION Positive early intervention outcomes are associated with improved overall functioning, life satisfaction, and functioning within specific domains 6.5 years posttreatment. Treatment type differentially predicted trajectories of functioning. Findings support the positive impact of pediatric anxiety treatment into adolescence and early adulthood.
