Abstract
Transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS) offers lower systemic toxicity and good patient compliance, making it a promising treatment option for skin-related cancers. However, physiological barriers in the skin frequently impede the therapeutic efficiency of TDDS. To address this, a unique self-assembled TDDS that incorporates disulfide pendant groups (termed Sup-TDDS) is presented. It is formulated with dithiolane-containing lipoic acid (LA), photosensitizers Ce6, and chemotherapeutic agents trametinib. Pendant disulfide moieties on Sup-TDDS facilitate thiol-disulfide exchange reactions with exofacial thiols on cell surfaces, thus enhancing stratum corneum penetration. In contrast to intravenous injection, topical administration of Sup-TDDS can penetrate deeper into the skin (> 500 µm) and promote drug accumulation in subcutaneous tumors. In a B16F10-bearing mouse model, Sup-TDDS treatment demonstrates significant anti-tumor effects in primary and recurrent melanoma, benefiting from the synergistic effects of Ce6 and trametinib. These results underscore that Sup-TDDS's transdermal properties allow non-invasive melanoma therapy, implying the potential of nanodrugs containing pendant disulfides for transdermal treatment of skin illnesses.

Abstract
Background/Objective: The aim of this study was to compare thiol/disulfide homeostasis and clinical parameters of rosacea patients across skin subtypes of the disease and healthy controls. Methods: This prospective study included 90 rosacea patients with different skin subtypes (phymatous, erythematotelangiectatic and papulopustular) and ocular involvement and 30 healthy controls. Plasma native thiol (NT), total thiol (TT) and disulfide levels of the patients and controls were measured using an automated spectrophotometric method, and disulfide/native thiol ratio (DNTR), disulfide/total thiol ratio (DTTR) and native thiol/total thiol ratio (NTTR) were calculated. Tear breakup time (TBUT), meiboscore, Schirmer, ocular surface disease index (OSDI) and rosacea-specific quality of life scale (RosaQoL) were measured clinically. Results: Disulfide, DNTR and DTTR were significantly higher, and NT, TT and NTTR were significantly lower in the rosacea patients compared to the controls (p < 0.001). TBUT and Schirmer were significantly lower, and meiboscore and OSDI were significantly higher in the patients compared to the controls (p < 0.01). According to the skin subtypes, disulfide, DNTR and DTTR were significantly higher, and NTTR was significantly lower in the erythematotelangiectatic subtype compared to the other subtypes (p < 0.002). TBUT was significantly lower, and RosaQol was significantly higher in the erythematotelangiectatic subtype (p < 0.0083). Strong correlations were found between DNTR and TBUT and between DNTR and Meiboscore in all subtypes (p < 0.005), while there were strong correlations between DNTR and OSDI and between DNTR and RosaQol only in the erythematotelangiectatic and papulopustular subtypes (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The thiol/disulfide homeostasis shifted towards disulfides, an indicator of oxidative stress in rosacea, and this was more pronounced in the erythematotelangiectatic subtype. The impairment in TBUT and RosaQol was also more prominent in the erythematotelangiectatic subtype and strongly associated with the DNTR.

Abstract
Context In recent years, the COVID-19 pandemic became a threat to human health and induced global concern. The SARS-CoV-2 virus causes various disorders in the body's systems, and the reproductive system is no exception. Further, the rate of infertile couples is increasing and part of this is related to male infertility. Aims The aim of the present study was to investigate the impacts of COVID-19 infection history on semen quality in men referred to public and private infertility centres. Methods In this research, patients were divided into two groups: 88 men with a history of COVID-19 (Covid+) and 51 men without (Covid-). After semen collection, sperm parameters, fertilisation rate and oxidative stress were investigated. Key results Sperms with normal morphology and mature chromatin in patients with COVID-19 infection history decreased, and seminal oxidative stress and sperm DNA fragmentation were increased; moreover, the fertilisation rate in the Covid+ group decreased in compare to the Covid- group. Conclusion COVID-19 infection increases oxidative stress in the semen, so has a negative effect on some sperm parameters and fertilisation rate. Implications COVID-19 infection impairs semen quality by increasing in oxidative stress, thus reducing the fertility potential.

Abstract
Rosacea is a chronic and psychologically ladened disease affecting 1%-3% of people worldwide. The identification and validation of biomarkers in rosacea patients has the potential to improve disease progression, support diagnosis, provide objective measures for clinical trials and aid in management. The objective of this review is to systematically identify all rosacea biomarkers, categorize them by type and identify trends to improve disease expression. Eligibility criteria for this review (PROSPERO CRD42023397510) include randomized controlled trials, case-control studies, cohort studies and other observational studies. No restrictions were placed on patient demographics (age, sex, ethnicity) or language of publication until February 2023. Quality of studies was assessed using the National Institute of Health quality assessment tool. The literature search was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A total of 805 unique articles were screened based on the applied inclusion and exclusion criteria. After the articles were screened based on title/abstract and full-text, a total of 38 studies were included, reporting on a total of 119 unique biomarkers. The results of this review and current rosacea pathogenic mechanisms provide the greatest support for the innate cathelicidin and inflammasome, Th1 and Th17 pathways. The most commonly reported biomarkers include IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-37, IFN-γ and MMP-9. Biomarkers identified in this study support current theories of rosacea pathogenesis and provide direction for research to further our knowledge. However, more research is needed to identify biomarkers panels that can provide diagnostic utility. This may be difficult due to the heterogeneity of the disease and potential differences between rosacea subtypes.

Abstract
Aim: The aim of the study is to examine the relationship between obesity, Vitamin-D deficiency, and protein oxidation. Methods: Thiol-disulfide homeostasis, Vitamin-D, ischemia modified albumin, insulin, and lipid levels were compared among obese, pre-obese and normal-weight healthy children. Results: A total of 136 children (69 boys and 67 girls) were included in the study. The vitamin-D levels of obese children were lower than those of pre-obese and normal weight (p < 0.05). In the normal weight group, total thiol and native thiol were lower in the pubertal period than in adolescence; were higher in those with sufficient Vitamin-D level than those with insufficient and deficient Vitamin-D (p < 0.05). Vitamin-D level was lower in pre-obese girls than boys (p < 0.05). Those with high triglycerides had high disulfide/total thiol, disulfide, and disulfide/native thiol and low native thiol/total thiol (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Thiol-disulfide homeostasis is negatively affected by low vitamin D levels, pubertal period and high triglyceride levels.

Abstract
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has been shown to act as both anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory mediators. Application of H2S donors generally protects against inflammation; however, experimental results using mice lacking endogenous H2S-producing enzymes, such as cystathionine γ-lyase (CTH) and mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (MPST), are often contradictory. We herein examined two types of model hapten-induced inflammation models, colitis (an inflammatory bowel disease model of mucosal immunity) and contact dermatitis (a type IV allergic model of systemic immunity), in CTH-deficient (Cth-/-) and MPST-deficient (Mpst-/-) mice. Both mice exhibited no significant alteration from wild-type mice in trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (Th1-type hapten)-induced colitis (a Crohn's disease model) and oxazolone (Th1/Th2 mix-type; Th2 dominant)-induced colitis (an ulcerative colitis model). However, Cth-/- (not Mpst-/-) mice displayed more exacerbated phenotypes in trinitrochlorobenzene (TNCB; Th1-type)-induced contact dermatitis, but not oxazolone, at the delayed phase (24 h post-administration) of inflammation. CTH mRNA expression was upregulated in the TNCB-treated ears of both wild-type and Mpst-/- mice. Although mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β and IL-6) was upregulated in both early (2 h) and delayed phases of TNCB-triggered dermatitis in all genotypes, that of Th2 (IL-4) and Treg cytokines (IL-10) was upregulated only in Cth-/- mice, when that of Th1 cytokines (IFNγ and IL-2) was upregulated in wild-type and Mpst-/- mice at the delayed phase. These results suggest that (upregulated) CTH or H2S produced by it helps maintain Th1/Th2 balance to protect against contact dermatitis.

Abstract
Rosacea is a widespread disease worldwide, affecting 5.5% of the human population and accompanied by a significant deterioration in the patient's quality of life. Currently, there are two classifications of rosacea, the first of which is based on a subtype approach (erythematous-telangiectatic, papulo-pustular, phimatous and ophthalmological subtypes), or on an individual analysis of the presented phenotype of rosacea. New data on the pathophysiology of rosacea have emerged, which show that genetic factors and environmental components can cause the initiation and exacerbation of rosacea due to a violation of the regulation of the innate and adaptive immune system. In addition, trigger factors can directly interact with the cutaneous nervous system and, with the help of neurovascular and neuroimmune active neuropeptides, lead to the manifestation of rosacea foci. The main mechanisms of rosacea pathogenesis are currently: activation of the immune system, disorders of neuro-immune regulation, genetic predisposition. New pathogenetic mechanisms of rosacea make it possible to continue the diagnostic search and therapeutic approaches with the personalization of management tactics for each patient, depending on the prevalence of clinical features of the course of the disease. It is necessary to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of subtypical and phenotypic approaches to rosacea classification and choose the most optimal one. The article presents arguments on this issue, and also suggests assessing the need to switch to a new classification in order to improve the effectiveness of therapy and improve the quality of life of patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: Lipoid proteinosis is a rare autosomal recessive genetic dermatological disease that occurs due to the accumulation of hyaline material in the skin and mucous membranes. This study aimed to investigate whether dynamic thiol-disulfide homeostasis is a new marker of oxidative stress in patients suffering from lipoid proteinosis. METHODS: The study group involved 17 patients with lipoid proteinosis and 17 healthy controls with same gender and age. Native thiol, total thiol, disulfide levels, and thiol-disulfide indexes were measured with the fully automated spectrophotometric method described by Erel and Neselioglu, and the results of the two groups were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Serum total thiol and native thiol levels were significantly lower in lipoid proteinosis group compared to the control group (p=0.020 and p=0.014, respectively). The disulfide levels were found to be higher in lipoid proteinosis group, but there was no significant difference between two groups. CONCLUSIONS: Impaired dynamic thiol-disulfide homeostasis was observed in lipoid proteinosis patients, suggesting that thiol-disulfide homeostasis may have a role in the pathogenesis of this disease.

Abstract
Oxidative stress represents the imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants and has been associated with a wide range of diseases. Thiols are the most important compounds in antioxidant defense. There is an equilibrium between thiols and their oxidized forms, disulfides, known as dynamic thiol-disulfide homeostasis (TDH). In 2014, Erel and Neselioglu developed a novel automated assay to measure thiol and disulfide levels. Subsequently, many researchers have used this simple, inexpensive and fast method for evaluating TDH in various disorders. We have reviewed the literature on the role of TDH in skin diseases. We identified 26 studies that evaluated TDH in inflammatory diseases (psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, acne vulgaris and rosacea), allergic diseases (acute and chronic urticaria) and infectious diseases (warts, pityriasis rosea and tinea versicolor). The results are heterogeneous, but in most cases indicate changes in TDH that shifted toward disulfides or toward thiols, depending on the extent of oxidative damage.

Abstract
Sulfhydryl oxidase was studied using a spectrofluorometric assay. The current protocol operates by using a combination of hemoglobin (HB) and hematin (HT) as a peroxidase mimic to catalyze the H2O2-dependent oxidation of thiamine. The response surface methodology (RSM) is used to optimize the new method. The current method is very accurate, sensitive, and linear up to 200 IU. When compared to the colorimetric method, the method produced a satisfactory correlation. The novel protocol is being used to evaluate asthenospermic patients' and fertile men's seminal sulfhydryl oxidase activity. The current protocol was used to determine reference values for seminal sulfhydryl oxidase activity. Due to the fact the newly developed spectrofluorometric method is more sensitive and precise than other colorimetric methods, and because thiamine is less expensive than other types of probes used in colorimetric and spectrofluorometric methods, it is likely to find widespread use among scientists studying sulfhydryl oxidase activity in biological tissues. The present method's analytical recovery yielded high specific findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hyperhidrosis is responsible for various causes. The increased reactive oxygen radical production with insufficient antioxidant mechanism capacity may play a role in the etiopathogenesis of hyperhidrosis. It is probable to gather data about oxidative stress by detecting plasma thiol/disulfide ratio. The aim of this study was to determine whether thiol-disulfide balance changes in patients with hyperhidrosis. METHODS The files of patients who were diagnosed with hyperhidrosis in the dermatology outpatient clinic between 2015 and 2018 and whose native thiol, total thiol, and disulfide values were examined for any reason were examined. RESULTS Seventy-three patients were included in the study. 33 of the patients with hyperhidrosis were primary. Mean age; for primary hyperhidrosis patients (PHH) = 26.36 ± 7.61, primary hyperhidrosis (PHH) control group = 27.16 ± 7.94; secondary hyperhidrosis (SHH) patients = 47.88 ± 12.29, SHH control (45.40 ± 12.02). The native thiol values of PHH (469.93 ± 56.82 μmol/L) were higher than SHH (440.64 ± 62.72) (p = 0.024). However, as a result of thiol-disulfide comparison between hyperhidrosis patients (PHH and SHH) and control groups, disulfide levels increased (p = 0.04). In the PHH group, total thiol was measured as 512 ± 54.84 μmol/L, and SHH was measured as 484.11 ± 58.9 μmol/L, (p = 0.074). CONCLUSION Serum thiol levels in SHH increased more than PHH. As a result of thiol-disulfide comparison between hyperhidrosis patients and control groups, the balance shifted in favor of disulfide and oxidative side.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory cutaneous disease that can be associated with cardiometabolic disorders. Oxidative stress is included in the pathogenesis of rosacea, and thiol-disulfide homeostasis (TDH) acts as antioxidants. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the TDH and metabolic parameters in patients with rosacea. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 42 rosacea patients and 50 controls participated in this prospective study. Demographic data, clinical entities, anthropometric measurements, and laboratory findings were recorded. Additionally, TDH was measured by an automated spectrophotometric method. RESULTS Rosacea patients had greater body mass index values (27.9 ± 5.2 kg/m² vs. 23 ± 1.4 kg/m², p < 0.001), waist-hip ratios (0.87 ± 0.1 vs. 0.77 ± 0.8, p < 0.001), and insulin resistance (3.0 ± 2.0 vs. 1.3 ± 0.5, p < 0.001) compared with controls. Disulfide levels, the disulfide/native thiol ratio (DNTR), and the disulfide/total thiol ratio (DTTR) were increased (p < 0.05) in rosacea patients. Native thiol and total thiol levels and the native/total thiol ratio (NTTR) were decreased in rosacea patients (p < 0.05). Different rosacea subtypes had no effect on oxidative stress markers. The duration of illness and insulin resistance values significantly correlated with DNTR and DTTR in the rosacea group (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION Rosacea has a metabolic milieu with increased oxidative stress and insulin resistance.

Abstract
Endogenous gasotransmitters nitric oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and potential candidates sulfur dioxide (SO2), methane (CH4), hydrogen gas (H2), ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2), are generated within the human body. Endogenous and potential gasotransmitters regulate inflammation, vasodilation, and oxidation in inflammatory dermatological disorders. Endogenous and potential gasotransmitters play potential roles in psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, acne, and chronic skin ulcers. Further research should explore the function of these gases and gas donors and inhibitors in inflammatory dermatological disorders.
Background Endogenous gasotransmitters are small gaseous mediators that can be generated endogenously by mammalian organisms. The dysregulation of the gasotransmitter system is associated with numerous disorders ranging from inflammatory diseases to cancers. However, the relevance of these endogenous gasotransmitters, prodrug donors and inhibitors in inflammatory dermatological disorders has not yet been thoroughly reviewed and discussed. Aim of review This review discusses the recent progress and will provide perspectives on endogenous gasotransmitters in the context of inflammatory dermatological disorders. Key scientific concepts of review Endogenous gasotransmitters nitric oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) are signaling molecules that regulate several physiological and pathological processes. In addition, sulfur dioxide (SO₂), methane (CH4), hydrogen gas (H2), ammonia (NH3), and carbon dioxide (CO2) can also be generated endogenously and may take part in physiological and pathological processes. These signaling molecules regulate inflammation, vasodilation, and oxidative stress, offering therapeutic potential and attracting interest in the field of inflammatory dermatological disorders including psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, acne, rosacea, and chronic skin ulcers. The development of effective gas donors and inhibitors is a promising alternative to treat inflammatory dermatological disorders with controllable and precise delivery in the future.

Abstract
Background. The pathogenesis of chronic spontaneous urticaria involves metabolic, immunological, and psychological factors. The thiol–disulfide exchange reactions could be a mechanism to counteract oxidative stress in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria. Objective: The assessment of thiol–disulfide homeostasis parameters (TDHPs) according to disease severity and the influence of H1-antihistamine therapy in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria. Material and method. We have included 30 patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria in the study and we have determined the levels of native thiol, total thiol, disulfides as well as the disulfide/native thiol ratio, disulfide/total thiol ratio and the native thiol/total thiol ratio, before and after therapy with H1-antihistamines. Results. The results of the study showed altered levels of TDHPs and their normalization after treatment with H1-antihistamines in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria. We determined a statistically significant increase in the serum levels of total thiol, native thiol, and native thiol/total thiol ratio and a significant reduction in the levels of disulfides, disulfide/native thiol ratio and disulfide/total thiol ratio after treatment with H1-antihistamines. The normalization of the serum levels of TDHPs has been associated with the relief of symptoms and reduction or resolution of pruritus and urticarial plaques. Conclusion. These results suggest the involvement of thiol–disulfide homeostasis in the defense against the harmful effects of reactive oxygen species in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria and the potential role of TDHPs in monitoring H1-antihistamine therapy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study investigating TDHPs in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria before and after treatment.

Abstract
Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory skin condition that mainly affects the skin (cutaneous LP, CLP) and oral mucosa (oral LP, OLP). However, the mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of the disease are not fully elucidated. Over time, several theories that could explain the appearance of LP lesions have been postulated. The key players in LP pathogenesis are the inflammatory infiltrate consisting of T cells and the proinflammatory cytokines. The cytokines stimulate the production of reactive oxygen species that induce cell apoptosis, a defining element encountered in LP. The lead inquiry triggered by this revolves around the role of oxidative stress in LP development. There are currently numerous studies showing the involvement of oxidative stress in OLP, but in terms of CLP, data are scarce. In this review, we analyze for the first time the currently existing studies on oxidative stress in CLP and summarize the results in order to assess the role of oxidative stress in skin lesions offering a fresher updated perspective.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate serum thiol disulphide levels in patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) compared with a healthy control group and to investigate whether thiol/disulphide balance can be used as a new marker of oxidative stress in CL patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS This prospective study included 47 patients diagnosed with CL and 46 healthy individuals without any disease. Native thiol, disulphide and total thiol levels were used in plasma. Disulphide/total thiol, disulphide/native thiol and native thiol/total thiol levels were measured. RESULTS Disulphide, native thiol disulphide and total thiol disulphide levels were significantly lower in CL patients compared with the control group. However, there was no statistically significant difference between CL patients and the control group in terms of disulphide/native thiol, disulphide/total thiol and native thiol/total thiol values. CONCLUSION Based on the data in our study, it can be said that the use of thiol/disulphide balance as a new oxidative stress marker in CL patients is not appropriate, but studies with a larger number of patients are needed.

Abstract
The increasingly wide use of next-generation sequencing technologies has revolutionised our knowledge of microbial environments associated with human skin, gastrointestinal tract and blood. The collective set of microorganisms influences metabolic processes, affects immune responses, and so directly or indirectly modulates disease. Rosacea is a skin condition of abnormal inflammation and vascular dysfunction, and its progression is affected by Demodex mites on the skin surface. When looking into the effects influencing development of rosacea, it is not only the skin microbiome change that needs to be considered. Changes in the intestinal microbiome and their circulating metabolites, as well as changes in the blood microbiome also affect the progression of rosacea. Recent research has confirmed the increased presence of bacterial genera like Acidaminococcus and Megasphera in the intestinal microbiome and Rheinheimera and Sphingobium in the blood microbiome of rosacea patients. In this review we discuss our current knowledge of the interactions between the immune system and the skin, gut and blood microbiome, with particular attention to rosacea diagnostic opportunities.

Abstract
Posttranslational modifications are dynamic enzymatic-mediated processes, regulated in time and space, associated with cancer development. We aimed to evaluate the significance of posttranslational modifications in the pathogenesis of clear cell renal cell carcinoma. The authors developed a prospective, observational study during a period of three years and included 55 patients with localized renal cell carcinoma and 30 heathy subjects. Glycosylation, nitration and carbonylation, thiol-disulfide homeostasis, methylation, phosphorylation and proteolytic cleavage were evaluated in the serum of the evaluated subjects in the present study. Our results showed some characteristics for early ccRCC: high production of cytokines, substrate hypersialylation, induced nitrosative and carbonylic stress, arginine hypermethylation, thiol/disulfide homeostasis (TDH) alteration, the regulatory role of soluble receptors (sRAGE, sIL-6R) in RAGE and IL-6 signaling, the modulatory effect of TK-1and TuM2-PK in controlling the level of phosphometabolites in neoplastic cells. These data could be the initial point for development of a panel of biomarkers such as total sialic acid, orosomucoids, nitrotyrosine, carbonylic metabolites, ADMA, SDMA, and thiol-disulfide equilibrium for early diagnosis of ccRCC. Moreover, they could be considered a specific disease PTM signature which underlines the transition from early to advanced stages in this neoplasia, and of a therapeutic target in kidney oncogenesis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rosacea is a very common, chronic inflammatory disease characterized by flushing, erythema and inflammatory lesions. Increased oxidative stress plays a relevant pathogenetic role in Rosacea. Intracellular Glutathione (GSH) is the main scavenger protective mechanism against increased oxidative stress. An altered GSH metabolism in Rosacea has been described. GSH-C4 is a modified GSH molecule characterized by a better intracellular bioavailability and longer half-life. A daily cream (E-AR) containing GSH-C4 (0.1%) with beta-Glycyrrhetic (0.5%) and azelaic acids (10%), with an SPF of 30, is available. AIM In a pilot, prospective, two-center, assessor-blinded study we evaluate the efficacy and the tolerability of E-AR cream in subjects with mild to moderate Rosacea treated for 8 weeks. PATIENTS AND METHODS The main outcomes were the Investigator Global Assessment (IGA) 7-point score (from 0, completely clear; to 6, severe) and the clinical and instrumental erythema severity score (ESS) (from 0 to 4) evaluated in a blinded fashion (randomly coded photographs) at baseline, after 4 (only clinical) and 8 weeks (clinical and instrumental). VISIA evaluation for erythema and lesion counts and ANTERA 3D analysis for skin haemoglobin concentration (a parameter associated with inflammation) were also performed at the same time points. Analysis of primary outcomes was performed on an intention-to-treat basis. Tolerability was evaluated at week 4 and 8 recording spontaneously reported side effects. RESULTS Thirty subjects (22 women and 8 men; mean age 38 years) were enrolled after their written informed consent. Twenty-six (87%) subjects completed the study phases. Four subjects stopped prematurely the trial due to low skin tolerability (n=3) or lost to follow-up (n=1). At baseline, mean (SD) IGA score was 2.6 (0.9). At week 4, IGA score decreased (NS) to 2.3 (1.2). IGA score decreased significantly (p=0.0001) at week 8 to 1.2 (1) (mean difference 1.3; 95% CI of the difference from 0.9 to 1.7) in comparison with the baseline. The inflammatory mean (SD) lesion count, evaluated clinically, were 5.1(2.5) at baseline, 2.8 (1.9) at week 4, and 1.9 (1.7) at week 8 (P=0.0001; ANOVA Test), representing a 63% reduction. This reduction was confirmed by inflammatory lesions count performed on VISIA pictures (from 4.5 at baseline to 1.7 lesions at week 8). Similar evolution was observed for the clinical and instrumental ESS with a reduction of 56% (clinical) and 48% (VISIA), respectively, at week 8 in comparison with the baseline. ANTERA 3D photographs confirmed the positive evolution observed clinically with a significant reduction (-24%) in hemoglobin content: from 1.88 at baseline to 1.44 at week 8. CONCLUSION This new GSH-C4, beta-glycyrrethic and azelaic acids cream has shown to be efficacious in mild to moderate rosacea subjects. Local tolerability is in line with other anti-rosacea treatments.

Abstract
Melasma, a common cause for seeking dermatologic care, is a chronic condition of skin hyperpigmentation. With a poorly understood pathogenesis, and no universal cure, melasma is a challenge for many dermatologists. For decades, there has been investigation into the role of oxidative stress in melasma. In this literature review, we introduce the role of oxidative stress in melasma and discuss the function of various topical and oral antioxidant therapies for patients suffering from melasma. Numerous studies have shown efficacy of various antioxidant therapies for treatment of hyperpigmentation, and in this review, we focus primarily on those with less widespread use. Vitamin E, niacinamide, polypodium leucotomos, pycnogenol, grape seed extract, amino fruit acids, phytic acid, zinc, silymarin, Korean red ginseng powder, plant extracts, and parsley all have well-demonstrated evidence of antioxidant properties, and these substances have been studied in the context of skin hyperpigmentation. Although there is conflicting evidence of their therapeutic efficacy, the use of these naturally occurring substances is promising for patients and medical providers seeking alternative therapeutic options.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Data point to the importance of oxidative stress in rosacea. Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) have substantial roles in a wide variety of oxidative stress-related conditions. AIM To evaluate the immunohistochemical staining characteristics of GST alpha (GSTA), mu (GSTM), pi (GSTP), and theta (GSTT) in patients with rosacea. PATIENTS/METHODS The study included 23 women and 7 men with rosacea (mean ± SD age 49 ± 11 year) and 15 healthy control subjects (10 women, 5 men; mean ± SD age 47.86 ± 10.88 year). For each patient, the average disease duration, disease subtype, ocular involvement, and severity score were recorded. A 3-mm punch biopsy was taken from the facial skin of each patient and control. Expression of GST isoenzymes was analyzed immunohistochemically. RESULTS Expressions of GSTM1, GSTP1, and GSTT1 were significantly elevated in patients with rosacea compared to those in the control group (P = .0001, P = .0002, P < .0001, respectively). In the rosacea group, GSTT1 expression was significantly stronger than GSTP1 and GSTA1 expressions (P = .019, P < .0001, respectively). There were no significant associations between expressions of GST isoenzymes and gender, age, average duration of illness, disease subtype, ocular involvement, or severity score in the patient group (all P > .05). CONCLUSIONS In rosacea, the significant increase of GSTT1, GSTP1, and GSTM1 expressions might result from activation of GST as an outcome of extreme free radical generation from triggered neutrophils or ultraviolet vulnerability. These findings support the relevance of oxidant stress in the pathogenesis of rosacea.

Abstract
Organic symmetric disulfides have been broadly studied in various fields such
as synthetic intermediates for various organic transformations, agro-chemicals, biochemistry,
pharmacological chemistry, industrial polymers, peptidomimetics, self-assembled
monolayers (SAMs), etc. Owing to versatile applications, the search and development of
efficient, environmentally friendly, mild and inexpensive methods for the preparation of
organic disulfides play an important role in the organic functional group transformations.
Various aspects of the S–S bond formation are available in some books on organic functional
group transformations, as well as two review articles that have been published in the
years 2008 and 2014 highlighting the developments of disulfide bond formation using a
variety of reagents. However, investigations on new catalytic methods are being regularly
reported and new types of disulfides are synthesized. The present review has attempted to systematically summarize
recent catalytic advances in the process of S–S bond formation with a major focus since 2014 on highlighting
mechanistic considerations, scope, advantages, and limitations. This review does not include patent
literature.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rosacea is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease that the pathogenesis is not fully understood. Although the significant role of oxidative stress in rosacea pathophysiology has been shown in recent studies, there is no study addressing the potential roles of bilirubin and uric acid (UA) in rosacea. AIM The purpose of this study was to assign serum bilirubin and UA antioxidant levels in rosacea patients. METHODS Eighty-seven rosacea patients and 81 healthy controls (HCs) similar age and gender were included in the study. From all study participants, blood samples were taken and the values of total bilirubin (Tbil), direct bilirubin (Dbil), indirect bilirubin (Ibil), and UA were analyzed in the laboratory of biochemistry. RESULTS The type of rosacea was erythematotelangiectatic in 51.7% of the patients, papulopustular in 43.7%, and phymatous in 4.6%. In rosacea group serum, Tbil, Dbil, Ibil, and UA values were found to be significantly lower than in the HCs. Male rosacea patients were found to have lower Tbil, Dbil, Ibil, and UA levels when compared with the males in the HCs. There was also the same significant difference in female patients. CONCLUSION Main finding of our study was that when compared with the control group, serum bilirubin and UA levels were significantly lower in rosacea patients. These levels sustain the hypothesis that antioxidant status and oxidative stress are important in the pathogenesis of rosacea.

Abstract
Background/aim Autoimmune gastritis is an autoimmune and inflammatory disorder. The aim of this study is to examine dynamic thiol/disulfide homeostasis and ischemia modified albumin levels, and to analyze the association between thiol/disulfide homeostasis and gastric emptying time in autoimmune gastritis. Materials and methods Thiol/disulfide homeostasis tests and ischemia modified albumin levels were determined in 50 autoimmune gastritis patients and 53 healthy subjects. Patients with delayed and normal gastric emptying were compared by thiol/disulfide homeostasis tests. Results The results showed that native thiol (μmol/L), total thiol (μmol/L), and native thiol/total thiol ratio (%) of the patients with autoimmune gastritis decreased compared to the control group (177.7 ± 34.18 vs. 245.25 ± 33.83, P = 0.001, 227.25 ± 36.78 vs. 284.20 ± 27.19, P = 0.03, and 8.84 ± 1.1 vs. 7.74% ± 1.3%, P = 0.001). In addition, native thiol (μmol/L), total thiol (μmol/L), and native thiol/ total thiol ratio (%) were found to be lower in patients with delayed gastric emptying (198.65 ± 24.27 vs. 167.12 ± 20.51, 241.81 ± 27.14 vs. 213.92 ± 26.35, 8.34 ± 1.29 vs. 7.20 ± 1.83, P = 0.001). Disulfide level, disulfide/native thiol, disulfide/total thiol (P = 0.001) ratios, and ischemia modified albumin levels (ABSU, 0.71 ± 0.08 vs. 0.83 ± 0.07) were found to be higher in autoimmune gastritis patients with delayed gastric emptying (P = 0.001). Conclusion The results showed that thiol/disulfide homeostasis in patients with autoimmune gastritis caused an increase in ischemia modified albumin and disulfide whereas a decrease in thiols. An altered thiol/disulfide balance was also observed in patients with delayed gastric emptying. These results suggest that the oxidative process is involved in patients with autoimmune gastritis.

Abstract
Sodium fluoride (NaF) is used in water fluoridation and dental products such as mouth rinses and toothpastes. Resveratrol is a natural polyphenol with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The present study was carried out to evaluate the toxicity of NaF and the protective role of resveratrol in Drosophila melanogaster. For longevity assay, Harwich strain of D. melanogaster was treated with NaF (0, 10, 30, 50, 70 and 90 mg/kg diet) throughout the lifespan and daily mortality recorded. Then, flies were again treated with similar doses of NaF for seven days to evaluate survival rate and oxidative stress markers. Thereafter, 60 mg resveratrol/kg diet was selected to determine its ameliorative role in NaF (70 mg/kg)-induced toxicity in flies: Group A (control), Group B (60 mg resveratrol/kg diet), Group C (70 mg NaF/kg diet), and Group D (resveratrol, 60 mg/kg diet) + NaF, 70 mg/kg diet). Thereafter, Glutathione-S-transferase (GST), catalase and acetylcholinesterase (AchE) activities, as well as total thiol (T-SH), nitrites/nitrates and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) levels were determined. The results showed that resveratrol prevented NaF-induced elevation of H2O2and nitrites/nitrates levels, as well as catalase activity. In addition, resveratrol restored NaF-induced inhibition of GST and AChE activities and depletion of T-SH content ( P < 0.05). Conclusively, resveratrol offered protective benefit against NaF-mediated toxicity in flies due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.Impact statementD. melanogaster was used to understand the impact of NaF on lifespan and emergence rate as well as the rescue role of resveratrol. These parameters are difficult to carry out in previously used models such as rodents. This further enforces in part, the suitability of D. melanogaster in studying NaF-induced toxicity and the therapeutic effects of drugs. Additionally, we found that resveratrol rescued D. melanogaster from oxidative stress-induced by sodium fluoride (NaF) administration. This study is of public health significance as it indicated that the consumption of fruits rich in resveratrol such as grapes may offer protective role against inadvertent exposure to NaF and related chemicals.
