Abstract
Aims Influenza infection is a health burden in children, and the influenza vaccine is an important prevention strategy for flu illness. Parents play a crucial role in children's influenza vaccination. The study aimed to assess parental knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to influenza illness for their children and explore factors that may impact their decisions. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted in a tertiary hospital in Guangzhou from November 2022 to April 2023. Answers to KAP questions regarding influenza illness and vaccination were summed, with a total KAP score of 20. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models and linear regression models were conducted to explore the factors associated with influenza vaccination. The results were presented as odds ratios (ORs), β, and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results Overall, 530 parents were respondents, of whom 162 (30.56%) had vaccinated their children during the past year. The mean KAP score (standard deviation) was 13.40 (3.57). Compared to parents who reported non-vaccinated for their children in the past year, the parents who reported an influenza vaccination have higher knowledge scores, attitude scores, practice scores, and total scores. Child body mass index, parental education level (under college), parental work (part-time), and more than two family members over 60 years old were negatively correlated with knowledge score. Child health condition and knowledge score were positively correlated with attitude score. Parental age was negatively associated with attitude score. Conclusion Though high awareness about influenza illness and vaccination for parents, the coverage rate of influenza vaccination in children was lower in Guangzhou. Implementing public health policies is necessary to spread knowledge about influenza illness and vaccination and to promote the practice of receiving the influenza vaccine in children. Education campaigns would help change the attitudes of parents toward vaccinating their children against the flu.

Abstract
Seasonal influenza vaccine is the most effective strategy for reducing influenza incidence and severity. Parental decision-making regarding childhood vaccination is influenced by one's vaccine-related beliefs. A cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the role of the Health Belief Model (HBM) in predicting parental intention to vaccinate their children against influenza in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR). An anonymous online survey was distributed to parents of children aged 6 months to 18 years in 14 EMR countries. Out of the 5964 participants, 28.2% intended to vaccinate their children against influenza. Urban residents (OR = 0.55, 95%CI: 0.35-0.85), decision-making regarding child's health by the father alone (OR = 0.43, 95%CI: 0.34-0.55) or the mother alone (OR = 0.78, 95%CI: 0.65-0.93), having a child with a chronic illness (OR = 0.45, 95%CI: 0.38-0.53), reporting high perceived severity, susceptibility, and benefits (OR = 0.35, 95%CI: 0.30-0.40), and cues to action (OR = 0.45, 95%CI: 0.39-0.51) were inversely associated with parental unwillingness to vaccinate their children against influenza. While parents with a higher number of children in the household (OR = 1.08, 95%CI:1.03-1.12) and higher perceived barriers (OR = 2.92, 95%CI: 2.56-3.34) showed an increased likelihood of unwillingness to vaccinate their children. Interventions targeting parental beliefs and perceptions are necessary to improve influenza vaccination acceptance and coverage among children.

Abstract
Objective Alarmingly, the individuals' reach and coverage to get vaccinated in developing regions during the pandemic is a massive challenge for concerned authorities. This study aimed to demonstrate how cyberchondria play a significant role in a classical health belief model. Cyberchondria may influence cognitive factors (e.g. self-efficacy), which may contribute to an increase in attitude-behavior gap. Especially in the context of a health-centric scenario, it may discourage individuals to take protective measures. Method By using the cross-sectional research design, the authors conducted a quantitative survey in Pakistan and collected 563 responses from 303 male respondents (rural = 91; urban = 212) with (Urban M:35.5, standard deviation (SD):13.4) and rural M:37.5, SD:8.4). Result The findings indicate that decision self-efficacy among males is stronger than that in females. It dominates other determinants, which can dampen the individuals' intentions to get vaccinated. For instance, the effect of conspiracies and perceived seriousness was noted nonsignificant and weak. In females, perceived seriousness was stronger determinant than in males. In addition, the negative effect of decision self-efficacy was noted in the case of females, and conspiracy and cyberchondria had a negative role. Conclusion This study highlights valuable implications for future research in infodemic, health communication and health literacy, and practical implications for regulatory bodies and public administration.

Abstract
The evolution of drug-resistant viral strains following natural acquisition of resistance mutations is a major obstacle to antiviral therapy. Besides the improper prescription of the currently licensed anti-influenza medications, M2-blockers and neuraminidase inhibitors, to control poultry outbreaks/infections potentiates the emergence of drug-resistant influenza variants. Therefore, there is always a necessity to find out new alternatives with potent activity and high safety. Plant extracts and plant-based chemicals represent a historical antiviral resource with remarkable safety in vitro and in vivo to control the emerging and remerging health threats caused by viral infections. Herein, a panel of purified plant extracts and subsequent plant-derived chemicals were evaluated for their anti-avian influenza activity against zoonotic highly pathogenic influenza A/H5N1 virus. Interestingly, santonica flower extract (Artemisia cina) showed the most promising anti-H5N1 activity with a highly safe half-maximal cytotoxic concentration 50 (CC50 > 10 mg/mL) and inhibitory concentration 50 (IC50 of 3.42 μg/mL). To confirm the anti-influenza activity, we assessed the anti-influenza activity of the selected plant extracts against seasonal human influenza A/H1N1 virus and we found that santonica flower extract showed a robust anti-influenza activity that was comparable to the activity against influenza A/H5N1. Furthermore, the mode of action for santonica flower extract with strong inhibitory activity on the abovementioned influenza strains was elucidated, showing a virucidal effect. To go deeper about the activity of the chemometric component of the extract, the major constituent, santonin, was further selected for in vitro screening against influenza A/H5N1 (IC50 = 1.701 μg/mL) and influenza A/H1N1 (IC50 = 2.91 μg/mL). The oxygen of carbonyl functionality in the cyclohexene ring succeeded to form a hydrogen bond with the neuraminidase active site. Despite the fact that santonin revealed similarity to both reference neuraminidase inhibitors in forming hydrogen bonds with essential amino acids, it illustrated shape alignment to oseltamivir more than zanamivir according to Tanimoto algorithms. This study highlights the applicability of santonica flower extract as a promising natural antiviral against low and highly pathogenic influenza A viruses.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate what factors affect parents' influenza vaccination preference for their children and whether there exists preference heterogeneity among respondents in China. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. A discrete choice experiment was conducted. Five attributes were identified based on literature review and qualitative interviews, including protection rate, duration of vaccine-induced protection, risk of serious side effects, location of manufacturer and out-of-pocket cost. SETTING Multistage sampling design was used. According to geographical location and the level of economic development, 10 provinces in China were selected, and the survey was conducted at community healthcare centres or stations. PARTICIPANTS Parents with at least one child aged between 6 months and 5 years old were recruited and the survey was conducted via a face-to-face interview in 2019. In total, 600 parents completed the survey, and 449 who passed the internal consistency test were included in the main analysis. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES A mixed logit model was used to estimate factors affecting parents' preference to vaccinate their children. In addition, sociodemographic characteristics were included to explore the preference heterogeneity. RESULTS In general, respondents preferred to vaccinate their children. All attributes were statistically significant and among them, the risk of severe side effects was the most important attribute, followed by the protection rate and duration of vaccine-induced protection. Contrary to our initial expectation, respondents have a stronger preference for the domestic than the imported vaccine. Some preference heterogeneity among parents was also found and in particular, parents who were older, or highly educated placed a higher weight on a higher protection rate. CONCLUSION Vaccination safety and vaccine effectiveness are the two most important characteristics that influenced parents' decision to vaccinate against influenza for their children in China. Results from this study will facilitate future policy implementations to improve vaccination uptake rates.

Abstract
The impact of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on children aged 3-6 can be severe. Vaccination for COVID-19 is one of the most important primary preventative measures to reduce disease transmission. Parents are hesitant to vaccinate their children against COVID-19 because it was reported in the news that some adults have had adverse reactions to the vaccine. This study aims to investigate the willingness of Chinese parents of 3-6 year old children to vaccinate them with the COVID-19 vaccine and identify what factors influence their decisions. A survey was conducted using a two-stage stratified random sampling method from December 2020 to February 2021. We used univariate analysis and multivariate binary logistic analysis to explore potential factors that may determine the acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine. Of the 468 parents who participated, 86.75% were willing to vaccinate their children with the COVID-19 vaccine. Parents who were female (OR = 2.591; 95% CI: 0.432-4.689), recognized their children in the high-risk category (OR = 2.494; 95% CI:1.244-5.002), often followed-up with COVID-19 vaccine-related information (OR = 9.065; 95% CI: 3.220-28.654), believed in the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine (OR = 3.068; 95% CI: 1.313-7.168), or thought the COVID-19 vaccine could prevent COVID-19 (OR = 13.750; 95% CI: 2.516-75.140) were more willing to vaccinate their children. To ease parents' hesitation about vaccines, the authority organization should release updated information on the safety and reliability of vaccines, target gender-specific health education for parents, and ask the media to report scientifically support information.

Abstract
Vaccination is a key strategy to prevent the pandemic caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study aims to investigate the willingness of Chinese adults to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and further explore the factors that may affect their willingness. We used a self-design anonymous questionnaire to conduct an online survey via the Sojump. A total of 1009 valid questionnaires were analyzed. The age of the participants ranged from 18 to 74. Among them, 609 (60.4%, 95%CI: 57.4-63.4%) were willing to receive the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine. Logistic regression analysis results showed that the age of 30-49 (OR = 2.042, 95%CI: 1.098-3.799), universities and colleges education (OR = 1.873, 95% CI = 1.016-3.451), master degree or above education (OR = 1.885, 95%CI = 1.367-2.599), previous influenza vaccination history (OR = 2.176, 95%CI: 1.474-3.211), trust in the effectiveness of the vaccine (OR = 6.419, 95%CI: 3.717-11.086), and close attention to the latest news of the vaccine (OR = 1.601, 95%CI: 1.046-2.449) were facilitative factors that affected their willingness to be vaccinated. More than half of the adults in China would be willing to receive a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. Middle-aged people with higher education, those who had been vaccinated against influenza, and those who believed that COVID-19 vaccine was effective and paid close attention to it were more willing to be vaccinated. Our findings can provide reference for the implementation of vaccination and the prevention of COVID-19 in China. More studies are needed after the vaccine is launched.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine (Sinovac Biotech) is a quadrivalent split-virion-inactivated influenza vaccine approved in China in June 2020 for individuals ≥3 years of age. It contains 15 µg hemagglutinin per strain including A/H1N1, A/H3N2, B/Victoria, and B/Yamagata, which could potentially improve protection against influenza B viruses. AREAS COVERED In this review, we summarize the development of quadrivalent influenza vaccines in China and foreign countries, and assess the immunogenicity and safety from the phase I and III clinical trials of Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine in individuals ≥3 years of age. We also discuss the potential application of Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine in young children 6-35 months of age according to the results of the phase III trial. EXPERT COMMENTARY The immunogenicity and safety profiles of Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine containing two A and two B strains were comparable to the trivalent vaccines for the shared strains. The addition of a second B strain to the trivalent vaccine could induce superior immune responses for the alternate B strain. Since the two B strains co-circulated worldwide, the introduction of quadrivalent influenza vaccines has been expected to be a cost-effective strategy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It is necessary and urgent to vaccinate 245 million Chinese children against influenza pandemics. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate different psychological and demographic factors that influence parental willingness to vaccinate their children against influenza. METHODS A hybrid theoretical framework was expanded and verified with 462 sample data collected from four cities in China. Structural equation models were used to test nine theoretical hypotheses, and the non-standardized coefficient method was used to discuss the moderating effects among demographic variables. RESULTS Knowledge is considered to be the significant factor of performance expectancy (β = 0.228), effort expectancy (β = 0.227) and perceived risk (β = -0.138), and social influence also has the significant impacts on the above three variables, with β values of 0.437, 0.386, and -0.172. Performance expectancy (β = 0.402), effort expectancy (β = 0.343), and perceived risk (β = -0.244) thus significantly affect parental behavioral intention regarding children's influenza vaccination. Gender, education, and kids' gender are demographic variables with significant moderating effects, while age, income, number of kids are not significant. CONCLUSION To improve the acceptability of influenza vaccination among Chinese children, the promoting policies should emphasize on public knowledge and social influence, as well as effectiveness, affordability, and safety of vaccination.
