Abstract
Organic-inorganic composite materials, combining polymers with transition metal (TM) atoms based on PAni and 3d TMs, have been designed and investigated in various spin states by performing density functional calculations. These designed composites were analyzed for their stability in different spin states as well as for their calculated electronic properties, including binding energies, frontier molecular orbitals, and dipole moments. Additionally, 3D isosurfaces and 2D scattered plots of reduced density gradient as a function of (sign λ2)ρ provide insights into the noncovalent interactions between the composite units. The most stable Mn@PAni composite has been assessed as a sensing material for chemical warfare blood agents (HCN, NCCl, NCBr, NCCN, and AsH3) using density functional-based calculations. The reduced band gap and significant red/blue shift in the UV-vis spectra obtained through TDDFT calculations underline the selectivity and efficiency of the Mn@PAni composite toward different analytes.

Abstract
Three imidazole-based hybrid materials, coded as IGOPS, IPS and impyridine@SiO2 nanohybrids, were prepared via the covalent immobilization of N-ligands onto a mesoporous nano-SiO2 matrix for H2 generation from formic acid (FA). BET and HRTEM demonstrated that the immobilization of the imidazole derivative onto SiO2 has a significant effect on the SSA, average pore volume, and particle size distribution. In the context of FA dehydrogenation, their catalytic activity (TONs, TOFs), stability, and reusability were assessed. Additionally, the homologous homogeneous counterparts were evaluated for comparison purposes. Mapping the redox potential of solution Eh vs. SHE revealed that poly-phosphine PP3 plays an essential role in FA dehydrogenation. On the basis of performance and stability, [Fe2+/IGOPS/PP3] demonstrated superior activity compared to other heterogeneous catalysts, producing 9.82 L of gases (VH2 + CO2) with TONs = 31,778, albeit with low recyclability. In contrast, [Fe2+/IPS/PP3] showed the highest stability, retaining considerable performance after three consecutive uses. With VH2 + CO2 = 7.8 L, [Fe2+/impyridine@SiO2/PP3] activity decreased, and it was no longer recyclable. However, the homogeneous equivalent of [Fe2+/impyridine/PP3] was completely inactive. Raman, FT/IR, and UV/Vis spectroscopy demonstrated that the reduced recyclability of [Fe2+/IGOPS/PP3] and [Fe2+/impyridine@SiO2/PP3] nanohybrids is due to the reductive cleavage of their C-O-C bonds during catalysis. An alternative grafting procedure is proposed, applying here to the grafting of IPS, resulting in its higher stability. The accumulation of water derived from substrate's feeding causes the inhibition of catalysis. In the case of [Fe2+-imidazole@SiO2] nanohybrids, simple washing and drying result in their re-activation, overcoming the water inhibition. Thus, the low-cost imidazole-based nanohybrids IGOPS and IPS are capable of forming [Fe2+/IGOPS/PP3] and [Fe2+/IPS/PP3] heterogeneous catalytic systems with high stability and performance for FA dehydrogenation.

Abstract
A critical review of different prominent nanotechnologies adapted to catalysis is provided, with focus on how they contribute to the improvement of selectivity in heterogeneous catalysis. Ways to modify catalytic sites range from the use of the reversible or irreversible adsorption of molecular modifiers to the immobilization or tethering of homogeneous catalysts and the development of well-defined catalytic sites on solid surfaces. The latter covers methods for the dispersion of single-atom sites within solid supports as well as the use of complex nanostructures, and it includes the post-modification of materials via processes such as silylation and atomic layer deposition. All these methodologies exhibit both advantages and limitations, but all offer new avenues for the design of catalysts for specific applications. Because of the high cost of most nanotechnologies and the fact that the resulting materials may exhibit limited thermal or chemical stability, they may be best aimed at improving the selective synthesis of high value-added chemicals, to be incorporated in organic synthesis schemes, but other applications are being explored as well to address problems in energy production, for instance, and to design greener chemical processes. The details of each of these approaches are discussed, and representative examples are provided. We conclude with some general remarks on the future of this field.

Abstract
This paper describes the synthesis and characterization of colloidally stable, 18 nm silica nanoparticles that are functionalized with amine groups. Electron microscopy, small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), and dynamic light scattering show the amine grafting does not impact particle size. SAXS and DLS confirm the particles do not aggregate at 10 mg mL-1 and pH 2 for 30 days. Ninhydrin analysis, fluorescamine binding, and NMR studies of carboxylic acid binding show that the amines are present on the surface and accessible with maximum loading calculated to be 0.14 mmol g-1. These materials should find a range of use in nanotechnology applications.

Abstract
Nanosized MoO2 can be prepared by different protocols, which yield different morphologies of the nanoparticles. Among their many properties, they can serve as catalysts for styrene oxidation (among other olefins), which is an industrially relevant transformation. In this work, we prepared MoO2 nanosized catalysts by two slightly different hydrothermal protocols using ethylenediamine and either Fe2O3 or hydroquinone. When used in catalysis, kinetic data evidenced that depending on the synthesis protocol of MoO2, induction periods occur (for the catalyst prepared with hydroquinone) with obvious different kinetic profiles and, in addition, product selectivity was also affected. To gain some insight on what is behind these results of the catalytic activity, a combined approach of studies has been conducted. DRIFT and inelastic neutron scattering (INS) techniques were used to assess the adsorbed species at the surface of both the fresh (DRIFT and INS) and recovered (INS) catalysts. Results from this study showed that when hydroquinone was used, an organic shell coated the MoO2 nanoparticles, which negatively influenced the catalytic performance.

Abstract
Epoxidation of olefins stands out as a crucial class of reactions and is of great interest in academic research and industry due to the production of various important fine chemicals and intermediates. Manganese complexes have the potential to catalyze the epoxidation of olefins with high efficiency. Magnetic nanocatalysts have attracted significant attention for immobilizing homogeneous transition metal complexes. Easy separation by external magnetic fields, nontoxicity, and a core shell structure are the main advantages of magnetic nanocatalysts over other heterogeneous catalysts. The method of functionalizing magnetic nanoparticles and of anchoring homogeneous metal complexes has significant effects on catalytic performance. Therefore, a critical review of recent research progress on manganese complexes' immobilization on magnetic nanoparticles for liquid phase olefin epoxidation is necessary. In this work, magnetic nanoparticles are categorized according to their preparation procedures and structures. The physical/chemical properties, catalytic performance for olefin epoxidation, reusability and plausible reaction mechanisms will be discussed, in an attempt to unravel the structure-function relationship and to guide the future study of MNPs' design for olefin epoxidations.

Abstract
Molybdenum complexes are versatile and efficient for liquid phase olefin epoxidation reactions. Rational design of catalysts is critical to achieve high atom efficiency during epoxidation processes. Although liquid phase epoxidation has been a popular topic for decades, three key issues, (a) rational control of morphology of molybdenum nanoparticles, (b) manipulating metal-support interaction and (c) altering electronic configuration at molybdenum center remains unsolved in this area. Therefore, in this paper, we have critically revised recent research progress on heterogeneous molybdenum catalysts for facile liquid phase olefin epoxidation in terms of catalyst synthesis, surface characterization, catalytic performance and structure-function relationship. Furthermore, plausible reaction mechanisms will be systematically discussed with the aim to provide insights into fundamental understanding on novel epoxidation chemistry.

Abstract
This review fills an apparent gap existing in the literature by providing an overview of the readily available terpenes and existing catalytic protocols for preparation of terpene-derived amines. To address the role of solid catalysts in amination of terpenes the same reactions with homogeneous counterparts are also discussed. Such catalysts can be considered as a benchmark, which solid catalysts should match. Although catalytic systems based on transition metal complexes have been developed for synthesis of amines to a larger extent, there is an apparent need to reduce the production costs. Subsequently, homogenous systems based on cheaper metals operating by nucleophilic substitution (e.g., Ni, Co, Cu, Fe) with a possibility of easy recycling, as well as metal nanoparticles (e.g., Pd, Au) supported on amphoteric oxides should be developed. These catalysts will allow synthesis of amine derivatives of terpenes which have a broad range of applications as specialty chemicals (e.g., pesticides, surfactants, etc.) and pharmaceuticals. The review will be useful in selection and design of appropriate solid materials with tailored properties as efficient catalysts for amination of terpenes.

Abstract
The {Cu(NO3)(H2O)}(HTae)(4,4′-Bpy) (H2Tae = 1,1,2,2-tetraacetylethane, 4,4′-Bpy = 4,4′-Dipyridyl) 1D coordination polymer has been obtained by slow evaporation. The crystal structure consists of parallel and oblique {Cu(HTae)(4,4′-Bpy)} zig-zag metal–organic chains stacked along the [100] crystallographic direction. Copper(II) ions are in octahedral coordination environment linked to two nitrogen atoms of two bridging 4,4′-Bpy and to two oxygen atoms of one HTae molecule in the equatorial plane. The occupation of the axial positions varies from one copper atom to another, with different combinations of water molecules and nitrate anions, giving rise to a commensurate super-structure. By means of the thermal removal of water molecules, copper coordinatively unsaturated centres are obtained. These open metal sites could act as Lewis acid active sites in several heterogeneous catalytic reactions. The dehydrated compound, CuHTaeBpy_HT, has been tested as a heterogeneous recoverable catalyst for Knoevenagel condensation reactions. The catalyst is active and heterogeneous for the condensation of aldehydes with malononitrile at 60 °C using a molar ratio catalyst:substrate of 3 % and toluene as solvent. The catalyst suffers a partial loss of activity when reusing it, but can be reused at least four times.

Abstract
Styrene oxidation mediated by a Mo-based mesoporous catalyst can yield selectively styrene oxide or benzaldehyde. Kinetic data evidenced that styrene oxide is the initial single-product formed by the catalytic Mo-mediated process. However, after some hours of reaction benzaldehyde yield rises while that of the epoxide decreases concomitantly. The mechanistic proposal pointed to a surface assisted acid-base mechanism by which styrene oxide is interconverted into benzaldehyde through over-oxidation and cleavage of the C-C bond and releases formaldehyde as well. In an attempt to gain some insight into whether this mechanistic proposal is realistic we have conducted a combined DRIFT and inelastic neutron scattering (INS) study to assess the adsorbed species at the catalyst's surface and confirm the mechanistic proposal. INS and DRIFT provided complementary insight into surface-adsorbed species by probing donor (INS) and acceptor (DRIFT) species. INS also allowed for an estimation of product selectivity by means of a Job method stressing the power of the technique.

Abstract
Amino-functionalised metal-organic frameworks UiO-66 and -67 were post-synthetically modified with salicylaldehyde. A molybdenum complex was immobilised on the resulting materials. They were characterised by (13)C-MAS-NMR, XPS and PXRD to confirm immobilisation and stability. The immobilised complex is an active and reusable catalyst for olefin epoxidation with tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as an oxidant. It is shown that the effective pore size, probed with Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area analysis and the number of amino groups affect the diffusion of reactants and products, as well as catalyst recycling.
