Abstract
OBJECTIVES The need for public education on palliative care has been widely argued for. To develop effective educational strategies, a stronger evidence base is needed on what exactly is known and unknown about palliative care as well as what the differences are between subgroups. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional population-based survey. Mail questionnaires were sent to a random sample of 4400 citizens (aged ≥16 years) within 4 municipalities in Flanders, Belgium. The Palliative Care Knowledge Scale (PaCKS) was used to measure knowledge. Associations between knowledge and sociodemographics and various experiential factors were tested, as well as the congruence between actual and self-perceived knowledge scores. RESULTS Response was obtained from 2008 (45.6%) citizens. The mean PaCKS score was 7.87 (SD 3.41; range 0-13) with the highest proportion (84.7%) correctly answering that palliative care is not specifically for older adults and the lowest (32.1%) correctly answering that improving the ability to participate in daily life is a palliative care goal. Being aged between 30 and 59, non-religious, more highly educated, having professional healthcare experience and knowing palliative care through personal experience were significantly associated with higher knowledge, while sex and informal caregiving experience were not. 52.4% self-perceived their knowledge as lower than it actually was. CONCLUSIONS While the general public seems to be familiar with some basic concepts of palliative care, several key aspects remain unknown. Educational strategies, with suggested potential for community-based and experience-based approaches, may need to focus specifically on these aspects and not just on the broader palliative care concept.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Social media with real-time content and a wide-reaching user network opens up more possibilities for palliative and end-of-life care (PEoLC) researchers who have begun to embrace it as a complementary research tool. This review aims to identify the uses of social media in PEoLC studies and to examine the ethical considerations and data collection approaches raised by this research approach. METHODS Nine online databases were searched for PEoLC research using social media published before December 2022. Thematic analysis and narrative synthesis approach were used to categorise social media applications. RESULTS 21 studies were included. 16 studies used social media to conduct secondary analysis and five studies used social media as a platform for information sharing. Ethical considerations relevant to social media studies varied while 15 studies discussed ethical considerations, only 6 studies obtained ethical approval and 5 studies confirmed participant consent. Among studies that used social media data, most of them manually collected social media data, and other studies relied on Twitter application programming interface or third-party analytical tools. A total of 1 520 329 posts, 325 videos and 33 articles related to PEoLC from 2008 to 2022 were collected and analysed. CONCLUSIONS Social media has emerged as a promising complementary research tool with demonstrated feasibility in various applications. However, we identified the absence of standardised ethical handling and data collection approaches which pose an ongoing challenge. We provided practical recommendations to bridge these pressing gaps for researchers wishing to use social media in future PEoLC-related studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, the subspecialty of neuropalliative care has emerged with the goal of improving the quality of life of patients suffering from neurological disease, though gaps remain in neuropalliative care education and training. E-learning has been described as a way to deliver interactive and facilitated lower-cost learning to address global gaps in medical care. We describe here the development of a novel, international, hybrid, and asynchronous curriculum with both self-paced modules and class-based lectures on neuropalliative care topics designed for the neurologist interested in palliative care, the palliative care physician interested in caring for neurological patients, and any other physician or advanced care providers interested in neuropalliative care. METHODS The course consisted of 12 modules, one per every four weeks, beginning July 2022. Each module is based on a case and relevant topics. Course content was divided into three streams (Neurology Basics, Palliative Care Basics, and Neuropalliative Care Essentials) of which two were optional and one was mandatory, and consisted of classroom sessions, webinars, and an in-person skills session. Evaluation of learners consisted of multiple choice questions and written assignments for each module. Evaluation of the course was based on semi-structured qualitative interviews conducted with both educator and learner, the latter of which will be published separately. Audio files were transcribed and underwent thematic analysis. For the discussion of the results, Khan's e-learning framework was used. RESULTS Ten of the 12 participating educators were interviewed. Of the educators, three identified as mid-career and seven as senior faculty, ranging from six to 33 years of experience. Nine of ten reported an academic affiliation and all reported association with a teaching hospital. Themes identified from the educators' evaluations were: bridging the global gap, getting everybody on board, defining the educational scope, investing extensive hours of voluntary time and resources, benefiting within and beyond the curriculum, understanding the learner's experience, creating a community of shared learning, adapting future teaching and learning strategies, and envisioning long term sustainability. CONCLUSIONS The first year of a novel, international, hybrid, and asynchronous neuropalliative care curriculum has been completed, and its educators have described both successes and avenues for improvement. Further research is planned to assess this curriculum from the learner perspective.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Research evidence suggests that a lack of engagement with palliative care and advance care planning could be attributed to a lack of knowledge, presence of misconceptions and stigma within the general public. However, the importance of how death, dying and bereavement are viewed and experienced has been highlighted as an important aspect in enabling public health approaches to palliative care. Therefore, research which explores the public views on strategies to facilitate engagement with palliative care and advance care planning is required. METHODS Exploratory, qualitative design, utilising purposive random sampling from a database of participants involved in a larger mixed methods study. Online semi-structured interviews were conducted (n = 28) and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Thematic findings were mapped to the social-ecological model framework to provide a holistic understanding of public behaviours in relation to palliative care and advance care planning engagement. RESULTS Three themes were generated from the data: "Visibility and relatability"; "Embedding opportunities for engagement into everyday life"; "Societal and cultural barriers to open discussion". Evidence of interaction across all five social ecological model levels was identified across the themes, suggesting a multi-level public health approach incorporating individual, social, structural and cultural aspects is required for effective public engagement. CONCLUSIONS Public views around potential strategies for effective engagement in palliative care and advance care planning services were found to be multifaceted. Participants suggested an increase in visibility within the public domain to be a significant area of consideration. Additionally, enhancing opportunities for the public to engage in palliative care and advance care planning within everyday life, such as education within schools, is suggested to improve death literacy and reduce stigma. For effective communication, socio-cultural aspects need to be explored when developing strategies for engagement with all members of society.

Abstract
Background Improvement in quality care is an important aspect of palliative care for individuals with serious illnesses. Palliative care is a multidisciplinary strategy that addresses the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients and their families. As technology advances, digital media - especially YouTube - has come to serve as a virtual educational platform, offering resources for health-related information, including information about palliative care. Objectives In this research, the main goal was to evaluate the quality and availability of online resources related to palliative care. Design Two theoretical frameworks were used: the Health Communication Model and the Information Quality Framework. These frameworks offer a way to understand how YouTube videos contribute to palliative care information and assess the quality of that information. Methods This study utilizes a quantitative analysis approach to assess the quality and accessibility of YouTube videos on palliative care. Specifically, a random sample of 300 YouTube videos addressing palliative care was examined. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data, including the frequency and distribution of the different types of content, sources, and quality indicators. Chi-square tests were done to compare the quality of information provided by different sources and types of content. Results The results showed a variety of video types, with educational videos being the most common (40%), followed by personal stories (26.7%) and promotional videos (16.7%). We found that healthcare organizations (30%) and individual content creators (46.7%) were the sources for these videos. Conclusion There were varying scores in terms of accuracy, completeness, and relevance when it came to quality assessment. While many videos received excellent ratings, some received poor ratings. Additionally, this analysis revealed that the majority of these videos were in English (83.3%), which poses a limitation for non-English speakers who may have difficulty understanding them.

Abstract
Background Low awareness about palliative care among the global public and healthcare communities has been frequently cited as a persistent barrier to palliative care acceptance. Given that knowledge shapes attitudes and encourages receptiveness, it is critical to examine factors that influence the motivation to increase knowledge. Health information-seeking from individuals and media has been identified as a key factor, as the process of accessing and interpreting information to enhance knowledge has been shown to positively impact health behaviours. Objective Our study aimed to uncover public sentiments toward palliative care in Singapore. A conceptual framework was additionally developed to investigate the relationship between information-seeking preferences and knowledge, attitudes, receptiveness of palliative care, and comfort in death discussion. Design and Methods A nationwide survey was conducted in Singapore with 1226 respondents aged 21 years and above. The data were analysed through a series of hierarchical multiple regression to examine the hypothesised role of information-seeking sources as predictors. Results Our findings revealed that 53% of our participants were aware of palliative care and about 48% were receptive to receiving the care for themselves. It further showed that while information-seeking from individuals and media increases knowledge, attitudes and receptiveness to palliative care, the comfort level in death conversations was found to be positively associated only with individuals, especially healthcare professionals. Conclusion Our findings highlight the need for public health authorities to recognize people's deep-seated beliefs and superstitions surrounding the concept of mortality. As Asians view death as a taboo topic that is to be avoided at all costs, it is necessary to adopt multipronged communication programs to address those fears. It is only when the larger communicative environment is driven by the media to encourage public discourse, and concurrently supported by timely interventions to trigger crucial conversations on end-of-life issues between individuals, their loved ones, and the healthcare team, can we advance awareness and benefits of palliative care among the public in Singapore.

Abstract
Online resources such as YouTube® can serve as the go-to resource for patients and their caregivers after a life-changing diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. There is a need to analyze the content and educational value of these videos for patients with pancreatic cancer. The top 100 most viewed videos on pancreatic cancer on YouTube® were assessed and data were collected on various variables such as views, likes, dislikes, and comments. Videos categorized as patient educational videos were further analyzed for their content, source, and educational value. Videos uploaded by patients were the most discussed (p = 0.014) and liked (p = 0.0028) videos on YouTube®. The content of the videos (personal experience, advertisement, patient education, medical professional education, alternative treatments, and increased pancreatic cancer awareness) varied depending on the uploader (patients, healthcare providers, professional societies, media) of the videos (p = 0.0007). Patient education videos were poor in being comprehensive on their education of pancreatic cancer based on our rubric (mean score of 7.67 ± 2.63 of 20 possible points). The current study shows that the educational values of YouTube® videos related to pancreatic cancer remain limited. There is significant room for healthcare providers to use the platform to develop and share comprehensive videos that can be used as more effective sources of patient education.

Abstract
Background: Although palliative care programs are beneficial to patients and families, most of the public is unfamiliar with and underutilizes palliative services. TikTok, a fast-growing social media platform worldwide, allows users to share short live-recorded videos and could be used to educate the public about palliative care. Objective: This study characterized palliative care TikTok videos and determined characteristics associated with higher user engagement metrics (views, likes, comments, and shares). Methods: The investigators analyzed the content and engagement metrics of palliative care TikTok videos. Each video was coded for author type (health care professional, patient, caregiver, or other) and demographics, features, and themes. Negative binomial regression analyses identified whether author type and themes were associated with engagement statistics. Results: After screening 510 videos, 146 met criteria for analysis. The most prominent author types were health care professionals (55.5%), followed by patients (32.9%) and caregivers (7.5%). Authors were often female (71.2%) and played music (59.5%) while talking (45.9%). Themes were describing personal experiences (47.3%), educating (39.7%), addressing misconceptions (16.4%), responding to questions and comments (14.4%), and raising awareness (11.0%). Caregivers' videos were most likely to be viewed (p = 0.003) and liked (p < 0.001), whereas health care professionals' videos were most frequently shared (p = 0.01). Engagement was highest among videos describing personal experiences (views: p < 0.001, likes: p = 0.002, shares: p = 0.003) and educating (views: p = 0.005, likes: p = 0.002, comments: p = 0.02, shares: p < 0.001). Conclusion: TikTok provides an interactive platform for patients, professionals, and caregivers to share information and experiences about palliative care, making it potentially valuable for explaining palliative care to the public.

BACKGROUND Home-based palliative care (HBPC) programs are proliferating across the U.S, yet face significant, documented challenges in promoting uptake of services and sustaining sufficient patient referrals. There is a huge need to understand effective methods for engaging physicians, patients, and caregivers in palliative care. Thus, the purpose of this study was to elicit successful practices on how to best communicate about HBPC to both healthcare providers and patients/caregivers. METHOD Focus groups with nine California-based HBPC organizations were conducted between January and April 2020. Discussions lasted approximately 54 minutes, were guided by a semi-structured protocol, audio-recorded, and transcribed verbatim. Thematic analysis was used to identify themes and codes from the data. RESULTS Twenty-five interdisciplinary HBPC staff members participated in a focus group. Most identified as white (76%), female (76%), and working in their current position for 5 years or less (56%). Three themes were identified from the data: (1) value of relationships; (2) communication do's and don'ts; and (3) need for education. Participants discussed actionable recommendations for each theme. DISCUSSION Study findings highlight several successful practices for HBPC programs to communicate- and foster relationships with healthcare professionals and patients/families about palliative care, with education at the crux. Lessons learned about key words and phrases to say and to avoid are particularly valuable for budding HBPC programs. Our results suggest that HBPC providers exert enormous efforts to increase patient referrals and enrollment through strategic, continuous outreach and education to physicians, patients, and their caregivers; however, palliative care educational interventions are needed.

Abstract
Background: Lack of knowledge of palliative care has been identified as a primary barrier to access to care, with a recent survey reporting that Hispanics have the lowest rate of palliative care knowledge compared with other racial/ethnic groups. The purpose of this pilot study was to determine if there were trends toward improved palliative care knowledge after viewing four-minute video of a palliative care patient. Methods: We conducted a pre- and posttest pilot study among 50 Spanish-speaking, hospitalized Hispanic patients 40 years old and older in a large public hospital. We used the Palliative Care Knowledge Scale (PaCKS) to assess palliative care knowledge. Two questions measured intention to enroll in palliative care. Paired sample t-tests were conducted to investigate change in PaCKS scores. McNemar's test was used to compare differences in intentions to enroll in palliative care from pretest to posttest. We conducted linear regression analysis to determine factors associated with improved knowledge at posttest. Results: PaCKS scores revealed significant improvement in palliative care knowledge following viewing of the video, with scores increasing from an average of 6.4-11.4 at posttest. Intentions to enroll a family member in palliative care increased from 64% at pretest to 64%-98% at posttest. Intentions to enroll oneself increased from 72% to 92%. Conclusions: Brief exposure to a relatable role model may be effective in improving knowledge and intentions to enroll in palliative care services. More research is needed to determine if these videos are effective in increasing enrollment in palliative care.

Abstract
YouTube has become an increasingly popular source of tourism information. The purpose of this study is to explore the network structures of YouTube videos about Incheon’s Chinatown in South Korea and investigate the potential factors that can predict the viewing of these videos. The analysis of 104 videos about Incheon Chinatown revealed that the engagement factors assessed by the number of comments and likes, and the running time of content, were significant predictors of viewing. However, network structure factors did not predict viewing. These findings make valuable contributions to sustainable tourism research and provide practical guidance for tourism management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Moving palliative care from a solely clinical focus to a more population based and community orientated approach is the hallmark of a much advocated public health approach to palliative care. Young adults are a vital cohort of the public, yet their understanding of palliative care has not been investigated. This study aimed to explore young adults' understanding of palliative care and identify factors that influence their engagement. METHODS A purposive sample of young adults (n = 24) aged 18-29 years were recruited from one UK University. Semi-structured interviews were undertaken face to face or via telephone or Skype between November 2017 and February 2018. Thematic analysis using a framework approach and underpinned by a socioecological perspective was used to analyse the interviews. RESULTS Three thematic categories were identified relating to intrapersonal and interpersonal influences, cultural and social influences and organisational and public policy influences. Palliative care was understood as supportive comfort care, delivered in the absence of cure, associated with the end of life and specifically focused on death and dying. Negative attitudes related to the context of care, which represented a static and hopeless situation. Whilst some reported positive attitudes, potential engagement was seen to be governed by a lack of knowledge and protective cultural norms. In terms of demonstrating readiness to engage with palliative care, participants requested clear information and suggested a normalising of palliative care through the education system. CONCLUSION Young adults in this study were ready to find out more about palliative care and identified social media as a platform upon which to engage this population. However, their perception of a society that views palliative care as a subject for those directly affected, creates a barrier to engagement. This study identified the ingredients of a public health message and mediums for disseminating the message. However, findings also suggest that a cultural shift is required to recognise the potential of engaging young adults in health issues that cross the life span, empowering them not only as individuals but as vital members of community and society.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Quality of low back pain (LBP) information offered on YouTube ™ is unclear. OBJECTIVE To describe the current low back pain information available on YouTube ™ and determine if these videos report information that aligns with clinical guidelines. Further analysis explored whether specific features of the videos explain their popularity. METHODS A cross-sectional observational study was conducted on videos related to LBP on YouTube™ with the 200 most viewed videos using the term "low back pain." The videos were independently viewed and assessed by two researchers for specific video characteristics, LBP specific content, and compliance with guidelines. The association between video characteristics or content with popularity (i.e., views, likes, dislikes, and comments) was investigated using regression models. RESULTS The median number of views was 2 018 167. Only 59 (29.5%) of the videos reported at least one diagnostic recommendation from clinical guidelines, and only 100 (50%) reported a treatment recommendation that aligned with clinical guidelines. Apart from year of upload, no variables were identified that were independently associated with popularity or engagement of the videos. CONCLUSION The information related to LBP offered on YouTube™ is often not evidence-based and there is the tendency to prioritize information on interventions rather than understanding the LBP process. Factors related to engagement with content about LBP on YouTube™ remains uncertain, indicating further need for knowledge translation in this field.

Abstract
COVID-19 pandemic has had an immense impact on various aspects of life including tourism, education, and research. Educators increasingly engage with various online platforms transforming education, including YouTube. YouTube has been widely used for blended learning, online education, and for popularisation of research for several years prior to the COVID-19 outbreak. However, the use of YouTube in tourism academia has been lagging. One example is the Travel Professors YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/c/TravelProfessors). It provides short videos filmed on location about various tourism-related topics. It both aims to popularise tourism research and be a useful reference for in-class and online learning. The present paper provides a detailed analysis of this YouTube channel over four years combining descriptive statistics, content analysis of reviews, and the creators' reflection. Opportunities and challenges in utilising YouTube in tourism education are demonstrated. Suggestions and recommendations for tourism academics on becoming YouTube creators are provided.

Abstract
Background: The 21st century has seen a proliferation of end-of-life
documentary films and television documentaries that contribute to building a
public image of hospice and palliative care. The way in which terminally ill
patients are represented in these documentaries creates impressions of who is
welcomed to receive end-of-life care. These documentary representations have not
been previously mapped. Methods: Using quantitative content
analysis, I analyzed 35 contemporary Western documentaries and studied their
diversity in the representations. I focused on terminally ill patients who are
given time and space in the narration to voice their views about the end-of-life
process. I paid attention to such elements as gender, race and ethnicity, age,
class, religion and sexuality. Results: The documentaries welcomed
the representations and voices of terminally ill people. Class, religion and
sexuality often had a marginal role in narration. The gender diversity of the
representations was quite balanced. Regarding age, the documentaries preferred
stories about working age patients for dramatic purposes, yet all age groups
were represented. However, the documentaries had an identifiable racial and
ethnic bias. With a few exceptions, terminally ill who had a personal voice in
the narrations were white. In comparison, racial and ethnic minorities were
either absent from most of the documentaries, or their role was limited to
illustrations of the general story. Conclusions: End-of-life
documentaries provide identifiable access to the patients’ experiences and as
such they provide emotionally and personally engaging knowledge about hospice
and palliative care. While these representations are people-oriented, they
include racial disparities and they focus mostly on the experiences of white
terminally ill patients. This bias reinforces the misleading image of hospice
and palliative care as a racialized healthcare service.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES A public health approach to palliative care that reorientates care towards the public is advocated in global policy. The public are drivers in identifying care priorities and partners in finding solutions to care issues; however, a necessary prerequisite is that the public knows what palliative care is and what it can achieve. The aim of this study was to investigate what young adults, an important cohort of the public, know about palliative care and identify key predictors of knowledge. STUDY DESIGN This is a cross-sectional online survey. METHODS A cross-sectional online survey measured knowledge of palliative care using the Palliative Care Knowledge Scale (PaCKS), with young adults (aged 18-29 years) recruited from a university in the UK. Data relating to demographic characteristics and familiarity and experience of palliative care were collected, with descriptive, bivariate and multivariate analyses undertaken to determine respondents' knowledge levels and key predictors. RESULTS In total, 83% (n = 710) of respondents (n = 859) had heard of the term palliative care. The mean score on the PaCKS was 8.87 (standard deviation = 3.4, range = 0-13); men had lower levels of knowledge (P = 0.016). Most respondents were aware that palliative care is not specifically for those with cancer or exclusively for older populations. They were unsure of timing and other key aspects reporting significant levels of 'I don't 'know' responses. Linear regression analysis demonstrated that familiarity and experience of palliative care moderated demographic influences (age, gender, education level) on knowledge (β = 0.45, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The findings suggest that despite high levels of awareness and familiarity with the term, significant numbers of respondents indicated a lack of knowledge of palliative care rather than inaccurate knowledge. This suggests the need for public health organisations to partner with palliative care sectors to develop and disseminate clear unequivocal messaging relating to the breadth of palliative care that both informs and engages young adults.

Theory-driven role model stories improve palliative care knowledge among a diverse older population. Palliat Support Care 2020; 19:34-40. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To test the effectiveness of theoretically driven role model video stories in improving knowledge of palliative care among a diverse sample of older adults. METHOD We developed three 3-4 min long theoretically driven role model video stories. We then recruited cognitively intact, English-speaking adults aged 50 and older from senior centers, assisted living, and other community-based sites in the greater Los Angeles area. Using a pretest-posttest study design, we surveyed participants using the 13-item Palliative Care Knowledge Scale (PaCKS) and also asked participants about their intentions to enroll in palliative care should the need arise. Participants first completed the pretest, viewed the three videos, then completed the posttest comprised of the same set of questions. RESULTS PaCKS score improved from an average of 4.5 at baseline to 10.0 following video screening (t(126) = 12.0, p < 0.001). Intentions to enroll oneself or a family member in palliative care rose by 103% (χ2 = 7.8, p < 0.01) and 110% (χ2 = 7.5, p < 0.01), respectively. Regression analysis revealed that participants who believed the role models are real people (β = 2.6, SE = 1.2, p < 0.05) significantly predicted higher change in PaCKS score. Conversely, participants with prior knowledge of, or experience with, palliative care (β = -5.9, SE = 0.8, p < 0.001), non-whites (β = -3.6, SE = 0.9, p < 0.001), and widows (β = -2.9, SE = 1.1, p < 0.01) significantly predicted lower changes in PaCKS score. SIGNIFICANCE OF RESULTS This study suggests that theoretically driven role model video stories may be an effective strategy to improve palliative care knowledge. Role model video stories of diverse palliative care patients provide one way to mitigate health literacy barriers to palliative care knowledge.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Candida auris is a novel Candida species, and has emerged globally as a multidrug-resistant health care-associated fungal pathogen. YouTube™ (http://www.youtube.com) as the largest free video-sharing website is increasingly used to search health information. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the content, reliability and quality of YouTube™ videos regarding Candida auris infection, and to identify whether it is a useful resource for people. METHODS The YouTube™ was used to search systematically for videos using the keywords: "Candida auris infection" and "Candida auris". Strict inclusion and exclusion criteria were used to select the videos. The videos were reviewed and scored by two independent reviewers and recorded the "title", "length", "views", "comments", "dislike", "like", "posted days" and "category of videos". The videos were categorized as "poor", "good" and "excellent" by the score. The DISCERN tool was used to assess the reliability of the YouTube™ videos. RESULTS Seventy-six videos were included in final analysis in our study. Most videos (59.2%, 55/76) had better quality. There were no statistically significant differences between groups in respect of the number of likes, dislikes, views, comments, percentage positivity, likebility, view rate and viewers' interaction. Length and posted days were significantly associated with the classification. The videos were categorized as "educational video", "new report", "personal experience and blog entertainment" and "interview". Significant differences were found in the source of videos and the characteristics of the individuals appearing in a video between the groups. CONCLUSION YouTube™ has striking potential to be an effective user-friendly learning interface for people to obtain information of Candida auris infection.
