Abstract
People living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are at higher risk of morbidity and mortality due to vaccine-preventable diseases. At the same time, they are less likely to respond to vaccinations, and might have a higher rate of vaccine adverse event and faster waning of protective effect. International and national guidelines emphasize the importance of vaccinating people living with HIV against respiratory system disease pathogens including seasonal influenza, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and COVID-19, as well as against sexually transmitted infections, i.e., Hepatitis A and B (HAV, HBV) and human papillomavirus (HPV). This narrative review aims to provide a comprehensive examination of the current knowledge regarding the immune and clinical responses elicited by vaccinations in the older adult population living with HIV.

Abstract
Vaccination has been confirmed to be the safest and, sometimes, the only tool of defense against threats from infectious diseases. The successful history of vaccination is evident in the control of serious viral infections, such as smallpox and polio. Viruses that infect human livers are known as hepatitis viruses and are classified into five major types from A to E, alphabetically. Although infection with hepatitis A virus (HAV) is known to be self-resolving after rest and symptomatic treatment, there were 7134 deaths from HAV worldwide in 2016. In 2019, hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) resulted in an estimated 820,000 and 290,000 deaths, respectively. Hepatitis delta virus (HDV) is a satellite virus that depends on HBV for producing its infectious particles in order to spread. The combination of HDV and HBV infection is considered the most severe form of chronic viral hepatitis. Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is another orally transmitted virus, common in low- and middle-income countries. In 2015, it caused 44,000 deaths worldwide. Safe and effective vaccines are already available to prevent hepatitis A and B. Here, we review the recent advances in protective vaccines against the five major hepatitis viruses.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Single dose hepatitis A virus (HAV) vaccine had been proven its efficacy in immunocompetent but not immunocompromised hosts. We aim to investigate the effectiveness of one dose versus 2 doses HAV vaccine among people living with HIV (PLHIV). METHOD We conducted a 1:1 single center retrospective case-control study for PLHIV in Northern Taiwan. Case patients were those who received single dose HAV vaccine and controls were those who completed standard 2 doses HAV vaccine. Nationwide campaign of single dose HAV vaccine had been practiced for high risk population including PLHIV and those who had newly diagnosed sexually transmitted diseases. RESULTS During February 2016 and December 2017, 90 cases received single dose HAV vaccine provided while the other 90 age-matched controls received 2 doses vaccine were enrolled. We found more injection drug users (22.22% vs. 1.11%, p < 0.0001), more co-infection with viral hepatitis C (28.89% vs. 5.56%, p < 0.0001), and history of syphilis infection (56.67% VS 30%, p = 0.0003) in single dose group than 2 doses group. Seroconversion rate at one year was significantly higher in 2 doses group (97.78% vs 56.67%, p < 0.0001). Among single dose group, people with hepatitis B or C virus co-infection (HBV: p = 0.02, aOR: 0.03, 95% CI: 0.002-0.55; HCV: p = 0.002, aOR: 0.22, 95% CI: 0.08-0.58) were less likely to achieve seropositivity, while those who had higher CD4 count at baseline and one year, had better response to vaccine. CONCLUSION Two doses HAV vaccine is necessary among PLHIV to achieve sustained seroresponse rather than single dose.

Abstract
Infectious complications are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with malignancies specifically when receiving anticancer treatments. Prevention of infection through vaccines is an important aspect of clinical care of cancer patients. Immunocompromising effects of the underlying disease as well as of antineoplastic therapies need to be considered when devising vaccination strategies. This guideline provides clinical recommendations on vaccine use in cancer patients including autologous stem cell transplant recipients, while allogeneic stem cell transplantation is subject of a separate guideline. The document was prepared by the Infectious Diseases Working Party (AGIHO) of the German Society for Hematology and Medical Oncology (DGHO) by reviewing currently available data and applying evidence-based medicine criteria.

Abstract
Synthesized 3-benzyl(phenethyl)benzo[g]quinazolines (1-17) were evaluated in vitro to determine their effects against the anti-hepatitis A virus (HAV) using a cytopathic effect inhibition assay. Of the synthesized compounds, 16 and 17 showed considerably high anti-HAV activity, as indicated by their EC50 values of 27.59 and 18 μM, respectively, when compared to that of amantadine (37.3 μM), the standard therapeutic agent. In addition, they exhibited low cytotoxicity as indicated by their CC50 values, 290.63 and 569.45 μM, respectively. Compounds 1, 2, and 5 exhibited remarkable activity compared to the active compounds (16, 17) and amantadine. The selectivity index (SI) values were calculated and applied as a parameter for classifying the activity of the targets. In addition, molecular docking was performed to rationalize the SAR of the target compounds and analyze the binding modes between the docked-selected compounds and amino acid residues in the active site of the HAV-3C proteinase enzyme.

Abstract
Hepatitis A and B co-infection among people living with HIV are public health challenges that account for an increasing degree of morbidity and mortality. Understanding the changing epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and new approaches to treatment and prevention continues to be important in the care of people living with HIV. We conducted a review of the literature that included studies on hepatitis A and HIV co-infection and hepatitis B and HIV co-infection, focusing on epidemiology, clinical manifestations, treatment, and prevention. Important updates include the changing epidemiology of hepatitis A outbreaks among the homeless and individuals who use substances, and novel approaches to hepatitis B vaccination and hepatitis B cure strategies.

Abstract
Vaccination is a critical component for ensuring the health of those living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) by protection against vaccine-preventable diseases. Since HIV-infected persons may have reduced immune responses and shorter durations of protection post-vaccination, HIV-specific guidelines have been published by global and national advisory organizations to address these potential concerns. This article provides a comprehensive review of the current guidelines and evidence-based data for vaccinating HIV-infected adults, including guidance on modified vaccine dosing and testing strategies, as well as safety considerations, to enhance protection among this vulnerable population. In the current article, part I of the two-part series, inactivated vaccines with broad indications as well as vaccines for specific risk and age groups will be discussed.

Abstract
Even after CD4 count recovery on antiretroviral therapy, HIV infection is associated with decreased response to most vaccines compared to the general population. Chronic infections with viruses such as cytomegalovirus (CMV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and hepatitis C virus (HCV), which are more prevalent in HIV-infected populations, have been linked to immune dysfunction and decreased vaccine response in the general population. However, whether co-infection with these other viruses contributes to the decreased vaccine response seen in adults with well-controlled HIV infection is unknown. We conducted a secondary analysis of data and serum from adults with well-controlled HIV infection from an inactivated polio vaccine trial (224 subjects) and a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine study (128 subjects). We evaluated the association of CMV, HBV, or HCV co-infection with post-vaccination antibody levels using both univariate and multivariate analyses, controlling for factors such as age, race, CD4 count, comorbidities, smoking status, and baseline antibody levels. Ninety-three percent, 7%, and 14% of subjects were co-infected with CMV, HBV, and HCV respectively. On both univariate and multivariate analysis, neither CMV nor HCV co-infection were significantly associated with post-vaccination antibody levels to either vaccine. HBV co-infection was significantly associated with post-vaccination antibody concentrations for pneumococcal serotype 7F on univariate analysis and 6A on multivariate analysis, but the association was with higher antibody concentrations. In conclusion, co-infection with CMV, HBV, or HCV does not appear to contribute to the decreased vaccine response seen in adults with well-controlled HIV infection.

Hepatitis B and A account for considerable morbidity and mortality worldwide. Immunization is the most effective means of preventing hepatitis B and A. However, the immune response to both hepatitis vaccines seems to be reduced in HIV-infected subjects. The aim of this review was to analyze the immunogenicity, safety, long-term protection and current recommendations of hepatitis B and A vaccination among HIV-infected adults. The factors most frequently associated with a deficient level of anti-HBs or IgG anti-HAV after vaccination are those related to immunosuppression (CD4 level and HIV RNA viral load) and to the frequency of administration and/or the amount of antigenic load per dose. The duration of the response to both HBV and HAV vaccines is associated with suppression of the viral load at vaccination and, in the case of HBV vaccination, with a higher level of antibodies after vaccination. In terms of safety, there is no evidence of more, or different, adverse effects compared with HIV-free individuals. Despite literature-based advice on the administration of alternative schedules, revaccination after the failure of primary vaccination, and the need for periodic re-evaluation of antibody levels, few firm recommendations are found in the leading guidelines.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To assess possible factors associated with the loss of antibodies to hepatitis A
7 years after the primary immunization in children of HIV-infected mothers and the
response to revaccination in patients seronegative for hepatitis A. METHODS: Quantification of HAV antibodies by electrochemiluminescence was performed in 39
adolescents followed up at the Pediatric Aids Clinic of Federal University of São
Paulo (Unifesp): 29 HIV-infected (HIV group) (median age: 12.8 years) and 10
HIV-exposed but non-infected (ENI group) (median age: 13.4 years). All of them
received two doses of HAV vaccine (Havrix(r)) in 2002. RESULTS: The median age at primary immunization (PI) was 5.4 years for HIV group and 6.5
years for ENI group. All children, from both groups, had antibodies to HAV >20
mIU/mL after PI. Seven years later, the ENI group showed a median concentration of
antibodies = 253.5 mIU/mL, while the HIV group = 113.0 mIU/mL (Mann-Whitney test,
p=0.085). All ENI group and 23/29 (79.3%) from HIV group
mantained HAV antibodies 7 years after PI. The levels of hepatitis A antibodies in
the primary vaccination were the only factor independently associated with
maintaining these antibodies for 7 years. The group that lost HAV seropositivity
was revaccinated and 83.3% (5/6) responded with antibodies >20 mUI/mL. CONCLUSIONS: The antibodies levels acquired in the primary vaccination in the HIV group were
the main factor associated with antibodies loss after HAV immunization.

Abstract
International travellers with immunocompromising conditions such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, solid organ transplantation (SOT) and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) are at a significant risk of travel-related illnesses from both communicable and non-communicable diseases, depending on the intensity of underlying immune dysfunction, travel destinations and activities. In addition, the choice of travel vaccinations, timing and protective antibody responses are also highly dependent on the underlying conditions and thus pose significant challenges to the health-care providers who are involved in pre-travel risk assessment. This review article provides a framework of understanding and approach to aforementioned groups of immunocompromised travellers regarding pre-travel risk assessment and management; in particular travel vaccinations, infectious and non-infectious disease risks and provision of condition-specific advice; to reduce travel-related mortality and morbidity.
