Abstract
Background Thai pharmacists' roles have increasingly shifted to a system-focused role in providing public health services. A competency framework in this area is essential to workforce development. Objective This study aimed to summarize and synthesize the literature on pharmaceutical public health competencies of Thai pharmacists. Methods The Scopus, MEDLINE, and Web of Science (Clarivate) databases were searched. The search criteria included "public health", "health promotion", "primary care", "community pharmacy", "pharmacy" and "pharmacist". Documents published in English and Thai between January 2011 and December 2020 were also examined. Unpublished documents were included. A 3-step inductive coding technique was used to develop the competency framework. To validate the findings, a 2-round, modified Delphi method was employed with 20 Thai pharmaceutical specialists between August 2022 and January 2023. The Scale-level Content Validity Index (S-CVI) was used to assess validity. Results The database search yielded 1429 articles. Fifty-seven articles were selected. The analysis identified 5 competency domains. The domains, along with their related competency elements and behavioral statements, were provided for expert assessment. The S-CVI scores in the first and second rounds were 0.78 and 0.93, respectively. The terminology and categories of competencies have been improved. This outcome resulted in a pharmaceutical public health competency framework for Thai pharmacists. The framework consists of 5 competency domains: 1) individual and family health promotion (3 competency elements with 10 behavioral statements), 2) community empowerment for well-being communities (6 competency elements with 23 behavioral statements), 3) information management and evidence-based practice (3 competency elements with 10 behavioral statements), 4) communication for health promotion (3 competency elements with 6 behavioral statements), and 5) pharmacoepidemiology and support for public health emergencies and epidemics (2 competency elements with 5 behavioral statements). Conclusion Pharmaceutical public health competencies for Thai pharmacists were developed through extensive literature review and expert consultation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The opioid crisis in the US is a severe public health issue, prompting pharmacists to adopt various strategies for prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery. Despite progress, barriers persist. RESULTS This commentary examines five determinants of public health in relation to pharmacist-led interventions for the opioid crisis: individual behavior, social factors, policymaking, health service accessibility, and biological/genetic considerations. Pharmacists can influence individual behavior through education and support, address social determinants like stigma, advocate for policy changes, ensure health service accessibility, and personalize opioid prescriptions based on biological factors. CONCLUSION Pharmacists play a crucial role in addressing the opioid crisis by navigating these determinants. Pharmacists' engagement is essential for reducing opioid-related harms and improving public health outcomes through advocacy, service provision, and education.

Abstract
Although lifestyle factors are important in determining the overall health of the general public, the impact of endocrine-disrupting chemicals and other environmental toxins is often underestimated. There is growing evidence indicating that these substances have a significant influence on metabolic health, cancer risks, and fertility. Therefore, it is the shared responsibility of public health officials and health care professionals, including pharmacists, to educate the public about the potential exposure to harmful toxins present in our immediate surroundings, particularly toxic chemicals that we unknowingly consume. Pharmacists play a crucial role in promoting and maintaining public health. This article reviews a selection of common toxins and their significant health risks. Pharmacists can prepare educational materials, hold presentations at public libraries, and participate in scientific meetings to disseminate knowledge about the potential exposure to these toxins, their detrimental impact on health, and strategies and recommendations to minimize exposure.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND LEADERSHIP FRAMEWORK While the scope of a pharmacist's work has grown, continued advocacy is needed to ensure that their skillset is used to the best advantage of the patient. To accomplish this aim, the University of Utah College of Pharmacy created an elective advocacy and leadership class to train students in leadership and advocacy methods, with a focus on enabling students to practice advocacy within the state of Utah throughout the class. EDUCATIONAL CONTEXT AND METHODS In addition to traditional lectures, this class asked students to apply the knowledge learned in class to projects within their sphere of influence. Activities included drafting their own bill, writing to a legislator, attending state legislative and board of pharmacy meetings, and a longitudinal quality improvement project. Students answered a pre- and post-class survey to assess their attitudes towards advocacy efforts and how those attitudes were affected by participation in the class. FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION As expected, a positive change in attitude towards advocacy was observed, and students indicated that they were more likely to engage in advocacy activities in the future after participating in the course. Moreover, a real legislative outcome has been observed as the result of class projects. IMPLICATIONS Enabling students to engage in advocacy activities and guiding them to effect real change is a valuable technique in pharmacy education. Similar efforts can be replicated in other institutions, and similar training should be expanded to required portions of the pharmacy curriculum.

Abstract
To support the successful integration of community pharmacies into value-based care models, research on the feasibility and effectiveness of novel pharmacist-provided patient care services is needed. The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, supported by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation, designed the Community-based Valued-driven Care Initiative (CVCI) to (1) identify effective value-based patient care interventions that could be provided by community pharmacists, (2) implement and evaluate the feasibility of the selected patient care interventions, and (3) develop resources and create collaborative sustainability opportunities. The purpose of this manuscript is to describe recruitment strategies for CVCI and share lessons learned. The project team identified pharmacies for recruitment through a mixed data analysis followed by a "fit" evaluation. A total of 42 pharmacy organizations were identified for recruitment, 24 were successfully contacted, and 9 signed on to the project. During recruitment, pharmacies cited concerns regarding the financial sustainability of implementing and delivering the patient care services, challenges with staffing and infrastructure, and pharmacists' comfort level. To foster participation, it was vital to have leadership buy-in, clear benefits from implementation, and assured sustainability beyond the research period.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Community pharmacies in the United States are beginning to serve as patient care service destinations addressing both clinical and health-related social needs (HRSN). Although there is support for integrating social determinant of health (SDoH) activities into community pharmacy practice, the literature remains sparse on optimal pharmacy roles and practice models. OBJECTIVE To assess the feasibility of a community pharmacy HRSN screening and referral program adapted from a community health worker (CHW) model and evaluate participant perceptions and attitudes toward the program. METHODS This feasibility study was conducted from January 2022 to April 2022 at an independent pharmacy in Buffalo, NY. Collaborative relationships were developed with 3 community-based organizations including one experienced in implementing CHW programs. An HRSN screening and referral intervention was developed and implemented applying a CHW practice model. Pharmacy staff screened subjects for social needs and referred to an embedded CHW, who assessed and referred subjects to community resources with as-needed follow-up. Post intervention, subjects completed a survey regarding their program experience. Descriptive statistics were used to report demographics, screening form, and survey responses. RESULTS Eighty-six subjects completed screening and 21 (24.4%) an intervention and referral. Most participants utilized Medicaid (57%) and lived within a ZIP Code associated with the lowest estimated quartile for median household income (66%). Eighty-seven social needs were identified among the intervention subjects, with neighborhood and built environment (31%) and economic stability challenges (30%) being the most common SDoH domains. The CHW spent an average of 33 minutes per patient from initial case review through follow-up. All respondents had a positive perception of the program, and the majority agreed that community pharmacies should help patients with their social needs (70%). CONCLUSIONS This feasibility study demonstrated that embedding a CHW into a community pharmacy setting can successfully address HRSN and that participants have a positive perception toward these activities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The highest prescribing rates for antibiotics occur in primary care, therefore, ambulatory care pharmacist interventions could play a major role in preventing overuse and misuse of antibiotics. Delegated pharmacists in the SJC primary care setting guided 3 activities with a goal of positively impacting prescribing patterns: monthly webinars provided by Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), quarterly reporting to physicians of antibiotic prescribing patterns, and development of a clinical decision-making support tool for antibiotic prescribing. METHODS Retrospective, observational data was collected to evaluate antibiotic prescribing patterns in patients diagnosed with acute sinusitis both before initiatives were implemented (July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020) and after the initiatives were implemented (April 1, 2022 through June 30, 2022). RESULTS A total of 675 patients were diagnosed with acute bacterial sinusitis during the specified time frame. Of these, 138 patients were excluded. A total of 279 antibiotics were prescribed in the preintervention group out of 298 patient encounters (93.6%) and 225 antibiotics were prescribed in the post-intervention group out of 244 patient encounters (92.9%) (p = .26). Although the primary outcome was not statistically significant, a significant reduction in patients treated with fluoroquinolones was noted, with 59/298 (20%) of those being prescribed in the pre-intervention group and 20/244 (8%) in the post intervention group (P = .02). CONCLUSIONS While pharmacist-led antimicrobial stewardship interventions in primary care did not result in a decrease in the overall prescription of antibiotics for acute sinusitis, our study did reveal a notable reduction in the use of fluoroquinolones. This finding highlights a promising avenue for expanding the role of ambulatory care pharmacists.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Long-acting injectable antipsychotic (LAIA) medications offer an effective treatment option for patients with serious mental illness. Despite demonstrated clinical safety and efficacy as well as increased adherence and less frequent administration compared with daily oral regimens, LAIAs remain underutilized in clinical practice. With legislation allowing pharmacists to administer injectable medications in 48 U.S. states, community pharmacies are uniquely positioned to serve as an access point for patients with serious mental illnesses to receive LAIA injections. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to conduct a systematic review of the health and economic benefits and costs of community pharmacist administration of LAIA medications. METHODS A systematic search of the literature published from January 1996 to April 2022 was conducted across 3 databases (Embase, PubMed, and Scopus Plus). Publications describing pharmacist administration of LAIA medications in outpatient settings were included. Publications that examined the use of LAIAs but did not involve a pharmacist administering the medication were excluded. RESULTS Of 2261 publications reviewed, we identified 8 publications (4 articles and 4 abstracts) that met our inclusion criteria, of which only 7 included results. Four studies reported high medication adherence achieved by patients receiving pharmacist-administered LAIAs. Two publications surveyed patient satisfaction with pharmacist administration of LAIAs in community pharmacy settings. One study found pharmacists' mixed attitudes regarding LAIA administration and time and safety barriers to offering the service. CONCLUSION We found very little evidence on the impact of pharmacist administration of LAIAs on patient outcomes. This review highlights the need to generate greater evidence on the health and economic benefits as well as financial models for pharmacists to administer LAIA medications in outpatient and community pharmacy settings. Such evidence could support more community pharmacists to offer LAIA medications and contribute to the shift toward value-based care.
