Abstract
Vaccination against hepatitis B virus (HBV) is recommended worldwide. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of infant hepatitis B vaccination and revaccination in 0- to 8-year-old children in the context of protective anti-HBs levels and cellular immune responses. Using a random questionnaire survey, 1695 pre-school children were recruited as research subjects during January 2015 to June 2017. Blood samples were obtained to measure HBV serological markers as well as peripheral immunocytes. The children were divided into non-, low- and hyper- responsive groups (NR, LR, and HR) based on the vaccination efficacy. Additionally, the effect of revaccination on the NR group was evaluated at 1 month after completion of the vaccination course. Among a total of 1695 children, 1591 (93.86%) were infants who were followed while undergoing their primary course of hepatitis B vaccination at the 0-1-6 month schedule, and 1249 (79.30%) of them developed antibodies against HBsAg (anti-HBs) titers greater than 10 IU/L. The results of immunocyte studies indicated that the CD8+ T cells, CD4+CD45RO+ T cells, CD8+CD45RA+ T cells, and T follicular helper (Tfh) cells increased significantly in NR compared with HR. However, lymphocytes, CD4+ T cells, and CD4+CD45RA+ T cells in NR were lower than that in HR. 96 of the non-response cases showed seroprotection after revaccination among 103 cases. Therefore, most of the preschool children who received hepatitis B vaccine in infancy achieved significant seroprotection. Seroconversion rates of individuals revaccinated after initial vaccination failure were significantly higher than those after primary vaccination. Different vaccination efficacy groups showed significant changes in circulating immunocytes, which might be a factor affecting the recombinant HBV vaccine's immune effectiveness.

Abstract
Livestock vaccines aim to increase livestock product and improve the health and welfare of livestock animals in a cost-efficient manner and prevent disease transmission. Successful livestock vaccines have been generated for pathogens including bacterial, viral, protozoan, and multicellular pathogens. These livestock vaccines have a significant effect on animal health and products and on human health through growing safe food procurement and preventing zoonotic diseases. There are successful production of biotechnological-based animal vaccines licensed for use that include virus-like particle vaccines, gene-deleted marker vaccines, subunit vaccines, DIVA vaccines, and DNA vaccines.

Abstract
Background The transmission of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) is parenteral, sexual and perinatal. Prevention of vertical transmission of HBV is extremely important because HBV infection in early life usually results in a chronic carrier State. Methods A descriptive seroepidemiological study of hepatitis B virus and its effects on hematological parameters was investigated in pregnant women attending antenatal clinic of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Nigeria. 200 venous samples were subjected to full blood count and its sera were subjected to enzyme–linked immunosorbent assay for the detection of surface antigen of hepatitis B virus. Results Prevalence rate of 16.5% was obtained for hepatitis B surface antigen in pregnant women. The highest HBsAg prevalence rate recorded was 23.3% for pregnant women between aged 30–34 years while the lowest recorded was zero percent for those aged greater than 40 years. RBC, WBC, neutrophil, hemoglobin lymphocyte and platelet counts have no significant effects on HBsAg positivity of pregnant women (p = 0.801). There was no significant difference in HBsAg positivity in relation to maternal age, gravidity, gestational age, family type, level of education and occupation (p = 0.073). Among the potential risk factors, there was significant difference in HBsAg positivity in the pregnant women in relation to their history of HBV vaccination (p = 0.039). Conclusions We advocate universal free screening of pregnant women as the endemicity of HBV infections is thus being propagated.

Abstract
The world's first nationwide hepatitis B virus (HBV) universal vaccination program for infants was launched in Taiwan in July, 1984. All infants received three to four doses plasma or recombinant HBV vaccines. In addition, infants of HBeAg-positive mothers received 0.5ml of hepatitis B immunoglobulin within 24hours after birth. The vaccination coverage rate is as high as 97%. Seroprevalence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) declined from 9.8% (prevaccination period) to 0.6% in children in Taipei City after 20years of mass vaccination. The seropositive rates for HBsAg, antibody to HBsAg, and antibody to hepatitis B core antigen were 1.2%, 50.5%, and 3.7%, respectively, in those born after the vaccination program (<20years old) in 2004. In line with the decrease of chronic HBV infection, the incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) also decreased in children in Taiwan. From 1981 to 1994, the incidence of HCC in 6- to 9-year-olds declined from 0.52/100,000 for those born between 1974 and 1984 to 0.13 for those born between 1984 and 1986 (p<0.001). We extended the observation to 2000, the incidence of HCC per 100,000 children declined from 0.54 to 0.20. The prevalence of a determinant mutants (amino acids 121-149 of HBsAg) in Taiwanese carrier children was 7.8% (eight out of 103) in 1984, increased to 19.6% (10 out of 51) in 1989, peaked at 28.1% (nince out of 32) in 1994, and remained stationary at 23.1% (three out of 13) and about 25% in 1999 and 2004, respectively; it was higher in those fully vaccinated compared with those not vaccinated. The other group of subjects who are susceptible to vaccine failure is the immunocompromized hosts. We observed some de novo HBV infection in children after liver transplantation. Despite of the success of hepatitis B immunization, childhood chronic HBV infection and HCC were not eliminated by the universal vaccination program. Among those HBsAg carriers born after the vaccination program, 89% of their mothers were found to be positive for HBsAg, indicating the importance of maternal transmission. This was also true in the mothers of children with HCC, of them 96% were HBsAg positive. After two decades of universal infant HBV vaccination, we found this program provides long-term protection for up to more than 20years, and a universal booster is not required for the primary HBV vaccinees before adulthood. Mother-to-child transmission, although largely diminished, is still the main cause for immunoprophylaxis failure. The emergence of escape mutant did not impose increased risk of chronic infection at present. Nevertheless, development of new vaccines may overcome the vaccine failure.

Abstract
To determine the immunisation coverage for HBV and the prevalence of HBsAg an anonymous serosurvey of consecutive adult surgical/gynaecologic patients presenting to 16 randomly selected hospitals in West Pomerania, Poland, was conducted. Immunisation rate was 60.4%, of these 69.7% had received the complete course of three doses; 65.2% were immunised at the request of referring surgeons. The multivariable regression model revealed that age <40 years, low educational status, not having a surgery in the past, tattoo application, and emergency procedure were each associated with a greater odds of not being vaccinated. HBsAg prevalence was 0.6%. Authors conclude that the preoperative vaccination policy might be an effective public health tool to limit the spread of the epidemic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study was conducted in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan, a poor province in south-west China experiencing rapid economic growth. The study examined the short-term trend in premature mortality burden from common causes of death in a suburban region between 1998 and 2003. METHODS Years of life lost (YLL) per 1000 population and mortality rate per 100,000 population were calculated from medical death certificates, and broken down by cause of death, sex and year without age weighting but with a discounting rate of 3%. RESULTS Non-communicable diseases contributed over 80% of all causes of YLL, with a slightly increasing trend. The combined rate for communicable, maternal, prenatal and nutritional deficiencies declined from 4.7 to 2.4 per 1000 population. Remarkably, declining trends in YLL were also seen for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, drug use and road traffic accidents, whereas increasing trends were seen for ischaemic heart disease (IHD) and liver cancer (males). The YLL rate for stroke, self-inflicted injuries, lung cancer and stomach cancer fluctuated over time. CONCLUSIONS The region should focus on further control of IHD and liver cancer.
