Abstract
BACKGROUND Mediation by multiple agents can affect the relation between neighborhood deprivation and segregation indices and ovarian cancer survival. In this paper, we examine a variety of potential clinical mediators in the association between deprivation indices (DIs) and segregation indices (SIs) with all-cause survival among women with ovarian cancer in the African American Cancer Epidemiology Study (AACES). METHODS We use novel Bayesian multiple mediation structural models to assess the joint role of mediators (stage at diagnosis, histology, diagnostic delay) combined with the DIs and SIs (Yost, ADI, Kolak's URB, ICE-income) and a set of confounders with survival. The confounder set is selected in a preliminary step, and each DI or SI is included in separate model fits. RESULTS When multiple mediators are included, the total impact of DIs and SIs on survival is much reduced. Unlike the single mediator examples previously reported, the Yost, ADI and ICE-income indices do not display significant direct effects. This suggests that when important clinical mediators are included, the impact of neighborhood SES indices is significantly attenuated. It is also clear that certain behavioral and demographic measures such as physical activity, smoking, or adjusted family income do not have a significant role in survival when mediated by clinical factors. CONCLUSION Multiple mediation via clinical and diagnostic-related measures reduces the contextual effects of neighborhood measures on ovarian cancer survival. The robust association of the Kolak URB index on survival may be due to its relevance to access to care, unlike SES-based indices whose impact was significantly reduced when important clinical mediators were included.

Abstract
PURPOSE Intimate care products may contain substances associated with increased risk of hormone-related cancers. The relationship between genital talc use and ovarian cancer, in particular, has been well studied, but concerns about recall bias and exposure misclassification have precluded conclusions. We examined the association between intimate care products and female hormone-related cancers, accounting for potential biases, using data from a US-based cohort study. METHODS The Sister Study enrolled 50,884 women who had a sister with breast cancer. Data on genital talc use and douching were collected at enrollment (2003-2009) and follow-up (2017-2019). We used Cox proportional hazards models to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) for associations between intimate care product use and breast, ovarian, and uterine cancers. To account for potential exposure misclassification and recall bias, we conducted quantitative bias analyses under various exposure reassignment assumptions. RESULTS Across considered scenarios, 41%-64% of participants douched and 35%-56% used genital talc. In models adjusted for exposure misclassification, genital talc use was positively associated with ovarian cancer (HR range, 1.17-3.34) Frequent douching and douching during young adulthood were positively associated with ovarian cancer, but neither douching nor talc was associated with breast or uterine cancer. Differential reporting of talc use by cases and noncases likely produces positive biases, but correcting for error still resulted in HRs above 1.0. For example, HR, 1.40 (95% CI, 1.04 to 1.89) when 25% of exposed cases and 10% of unexposed noncases had talc status reassigned. CONCLUSION Although results show how differential recall would upwardly bias estimates, corrected results support a positive association between use of intimate care products, including genital talc, and ovarian cancer.

Abstract
Over the past several decades, there have been many epidemiology studies on talc and cancer published in the scientific literature, and several reviews and meta-analyses of talc and respiratory, female reproductive, and stomach cancers, specifically. To help provide a resource for the evaluation of talc as a potential human carcinogen, we applied a consistent set of examination methods and criteria for all epidemiology studies that examined the association between talc exposure (by various routes) and cancers (of various types). We identified 30 cohort, 35 case-control, and 12 pooled studies that evaluated occupational, medicinal, and personal-care product talc exposure and cancers of the respiratory system, the female reproductive tract, the gastrointestinal tract, the urinary system, the lymphohematopoietic system, the prostate, male genital organs, and the central nervous system, as well as skin, eye, bone, connective tissue, peritoneal, and breast cancers. We tabulated study characteristics, quality, and results in a systematic manner, and evaluated all cancer types for which studies of at least three unique populations were available in a narrative review. We focused on study quality aspects most likely to impact the interpretation of results. We found that only one study, of medicinal talc use, evaluated direct exposure measurements for any individuals, though some used semi-quantitative exposure metrics, and few studies adequately assessed potential confounders. The only consistent associations were with ovarian cancer in case-control studies and these associations were likely impacted by recall and potentially other biases. This systematic review indicates that epidemiology studies do not support a causal association between occupational, medicinal, or personal talc exposure and any cancer in humans.

Abstract
There is limited research on the association between the alanine aminotransferase to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (ALT/HDL-C) ratio and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The purpose of the current research was to look into the connection between the ALT/HDL-C ratio and the risk of NAFLD in lean Chinese individuals. Between January 2010 and December 2014, 11,975 non-obese people participated in this prospective cohort research. The relationship between the ALT/HDL-C ratio and the risk of developing NAFLD was assessed using the Cox proportional-hazards regression model, Cox proportional hazards regression with cubic spline functions and smooth curve fitting, sensitivity analysis, and subgroup analyses. The ALT/HDL-C ratio's potential value as a NAFLD prognostic marker was to be evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. A total of 5419 (45.253%) women comprised the research's participant population, and the research participants' average age was 43.278 ± 14.941 years. The ALT/HDL-C ratio was 11.607 (7.973-17.422) at the median (interquartile ranges). 2087 (17.428%) patients had NAFLD diagnoses throughout a median follow-up of 24.967 months. The study's findings demonstrated a positive connection between the ALT/AHDL-C ratio and the incident NAFLD (HR = 1.037, 95% CI: 1.031-1.042) when adjusting for relevant factors. The ALT/HDL-C ratio and NAFLD risk had a nonlinear connection, with 12.963 as the ratio's inflection point. Effect sizes (HR) were 1.023 (95% CI: 1.017-1.029) and 1.204 (95% CI: 1.171-1.237), respectively, on the right and left sides of the inflection point. The sensitivity analysis also showed how reliable our findings were. According to subgroup analysis, those with BMI < 24 kg/m2 and DBP < 90 mmHg had a stronger correlation between the ALT/HDL-C ratio and NAFLD risk. The current study shows a positive and non-linear connection between the ALT/HDL-C ratio and NAFLD risk in lean Chinese individuals. When the ALT/HDL-C ratio is less than 12.963, it is significantly linked to NAFLD. Therefore, from a therapy standpoint, it is advised to keep the ALT/HDL-C ratio less than the inflection point.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Genital talc and douching are practices that can involve exposure to chemical compounds linked to certain gynecologic cancers. However, it is unclear if they are associated with fibroid risk or age at fibroid diagnosis among women. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the impact of early-adolescence genital talc use and douching on prevalence of fibroids diagnosed before the age of 35 and 50 years among Black/African American and non-Hispanic White women. STUDY DESIGN Data were derived from the Sister Study (2003-2020), a prospective cohort of 50,884 US women aged 35 to 74 years at enrollment. Participants were asked if they ever had a fibroid diagnosis and at what age, and if they used genital talc and/or douched between the ages of 10 and 13 years or in the past 12 months. After applying predefined exclusion criteria, our analytical sample size was n=46,316 (Black, n=4310; non-Hispanic White, n=42,006). Multivariable logistic regression was used to compute adjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for having vs not having early-onset fibroids diagnosed before age 35 among women aged 35 to 74 years at enrollment, and fibroids diagnosed before age 50 among women aged 50 to 74 years at enrollment. We adjusted for early life factors (in utero diethylstilbestrol exposure, singleton or multiple birth, fed soy formula during infancy), childhood socioeconomic status, and relative weight and height compared with peers at age 10. We used multiple imputation (<10% missing in all analyses). Results were stratified by race/ethnicity given that Black women are more likely to develop fibroids at a younger age than non-Hispanic White women. RESULTS Among Black/African American women, 29% had fibroids diagnosed before age 35. Both genital talc use at age 10 to 13 (adjusted odds ratio, 1.23; confidence interval, 1.06-1.41) and douching (adjusted odds ratio, 1.19; 95% confidence interval, 0.95-1.48) were associated with higher odds of having a fibroid diagnosed before age 35. Douching without talc use was not associated with increased odds, but combined use of genital talc and douche was associated with 52% increased odds of fibroids (confidence interval, 1.14-2.01). Among non-Hispanic White women, 9% reported fibroids diagnosed before age 35. Genital talc use (1.31; 1.20-1.44) but not douching (0.96; 0.77-1.20) at age of 10 to 13 years was associated with having a fibroid diagnosed before age 35. We observed similar patterns for non-Hispanic White women when we considered fibroids diagnosed before age 50, but neither practice was associated with fibroids diagnosed before age 50 in Black women. CONCLUSION Genital talc use in early adolescence, alone and in combination with douching (but not douching alone), is associated with prevalence of fibroids diagnosed before age 35 among Black/African American women and before ages 35 and 50 among non-Hispanic White women. Early adolescence may be a window of susceptibility for fibroid development, suggesting that adolescent girls should be educated on abstention from or alternatives to talc use and douching.

Abstract
Talc is a hydrous magnesium sheet silicate used in cosmetic powders, ceramics, paints, rubber, and many other products. We conducted a systematic review of the potential carcinogenicity of genitally applied talc in humans. Our systematic review methods adhere to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and incorporated aspects from the US Institute of Medicine (IOM, now the National Academy of Medicine) and several US EPA frameworks for systematic reviews, evaluating and integrating the epidemiological, animal, and mechanistic literature on talc and cancer. We conducted a comprehensive literature search. Detailed data abstraction and study quality evaluation, adapting the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) framework, were central to our analysis. The literature search and selection process identified 40 primary studies that assessed exposure to talc and female reproductive cancer risks in humans (n = 36) and animals (n = 4). The results of our evaluation emphasize the importance of considering biological plausibility and study quality in systematic review. Integrating all streams of evidence according to the IOM framework yielded classifications of suggestive evidence of no association between perineal application of talcum powders and risk of ovarian cancer at human-relevant exposure levels. We also concluded that there is suggestive evidence of no association between genital talc application and endometrial cancer, and insufficient evidence to determine whether a causal association exists between genital talc application and cervical cancer based on a smaller but largely null body of literature.

Abstract
There are strong correlations between the microbiome and human disease, including cancer. However, very little is known about potential mechanisms associated with malignant transformation in microbiome-associated gynecological cancer, except for HPV-induced cervical cancer. Our hypothesis is that differences in bacterial communities in upper genital tract epithelium may lead to selection of specific genomic variation at the cellular level of these tissues that may predispose to their malignant transformation. We first assessed differences in the taxonomic composition of microbial communities and genomic variation between gynecologic cancers and normal samples. Then, we performed a correlation analysis to assess whether differences in microbial communities selected for specific single nucleotide variation (SNV) between normal and gynecological cancers. We validated these results in independent datasets. This is a retrospective nested case-control study that used clinical and genomic information to perform all analyses. Our present study confirms a changing landscape in microbial communities as we progress into the upper genital tract, with more diversity in lower levels of the tract. Some of the different genomic variations between cancer and controls strongly correlated with the changing microbial communities. Pathway analyses including these correlated genes may help understand the basis for how changing bacterial landscapes may lead to these cancers. However, one of the most important implications of our findings is the possibility of cancer prevention in women at risk by detecting altered bacterial communities in the upper genital tract epithelium.

Abstract
Ovarian cancer is a complex disease, mostly observed in postmenopausal women, and is associated with poor survival rates. It is the sixth most common cancer and the fifth most common cause of death due to cancer among women in developed countries. Thus, despite representing less than one third of all gynaecologic cancers, deaths due to ovarian cancer account for more than two thirds of deaths due to gynaecologic cancers. Its prevalence is higher in Western Europe and Northern America than Asia and Africa. In sub-Saharan Africa, there is a considerably lower prevalence of ovarian cancer than other parts of Africa. Ovarian cancer is multifaceted, involving many factors, complex biological processes and unpredictable consequences. Unlike other female cancers that have early warning symptoms, ovarian cancer's symptoms are non-specific. As a result, ovarian cancers are normally undetected until advanced stages (III or IV). The major risk factors for ovarian cancer include older age, genetics, family history, hormone replacement therapy, nulliparity, and dietary fat. Controversial factors include obesity, infertility, talc powder, radiation exposure, fertility medications and in vitro fertilization. The current review discusses the aetiology, epidemiology and risk factors for ovarian cancer. Nevertheless, identification of the main risk factors for ovarian cancer may increase the awareness among women of the general population. This should help to decrease the incidence rate of ovarian cancer and increase the five-year survival rate.

Abstract
Ovarian cancer is one of the most common gynecologic malignancies. It is characterized by a high mortality rate, which is mainly due to the asymptomatic course of the disease. In light of the high mortality rate and increasing morbidity, new diagnostic methods are being explored to enable earlier detection, better monitoring, and improved prognosis. Such diagnostic methods include the assessment of tumor markers in various biological samples. Among the markers currently being investigated, extracellular matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are of particular interest. The objective of this article was to compile the existing knowledge of MMPs in ovarian cancer patients and to describe their potential diagnostic utility. Additionally, this article provides an overview of the symptoms, complications, and risk factors associated with ovarian cancer and the role of MMPs in physiology and pathology. Preliminary results indicate that tissue expression and blood and body fluid levels of MMPs may be different in ovarian cancer patients than in healthy women. The expression and concentration of individual MMPs have been shown to be correlated with cancer stage and disease severity. In addition, the preliminary value of some of these enzymes in predicting prognosis is discussed. However, as the amount of data is limited, more studies are needed to fully evaluate the potential function of individual MMPs in ovarian cancer patients. Based on the knowledge gathered for this article, it seems that MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-7, MMP-8, MMP-9, MMP-13, are tentatively the most useful. A thorough evaluation of their utility as modern biomarkers in ovarian cancer requires further investigation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The evidence for a relationship between the ratio of gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is currently inadequate. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the GGT/HDL-c ratio and NAFLD. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study is a prospective cohort study that recruited a total of 11,891 non-obese volunteers in a Chinese hospital from January 2010 to December 2014 in a non-selective manner. The Cox proportional-hazards regression model was then used to investigate the relationship between baseline GGT/HDL-c ratio and the probability of developing NAFLD. The non-linear link between the GGT/HDL-c ratio and NAFLD was identified using a Cox proportional hazards regression with cubic spline functions and smooth curve fitting (cubic spline smoothing). Furthermore, we conducted several sensitivity and subgroup analyses. Data had been uploaded to the DATADRYAD website. RESULTS The mean age of study participants was 43.29 ± 14.95 years old, and 6,502 (54.68%) were male. The median (interquartile ranges) of GGT/HDL-c ratio was 15.56 (10.73-23.84). During a median follow-up of 29.35 months, 2028 (17.05%) participants were diagnosed with NAFLD. After adjusting for covariates, the results showed that GGT/HDL-c ratio was positively associated with incident NAFLD (HR = 1.014, 95% CI 1.011-1.017). There was also a non-linear relationship between GGT/HDL-c ratio and NAFLD, and the inflection point of the GGT/HDL-c ratio was 20.35. The effect sizes (HR) on the left and right sides of the inflection point were 1.113 (95% CI 1.096, 1.130) and 1.003 (95% CI 1.000-1.007), respectively. Moreover, the sensitivity analysis demonstrated the robustness of our results. Subgroup analysis showed that GGT/HDL-c ratio was more strongly associated with incident NAFLD in triglyceride (TG) < 1.7 mmol/L participants. In contrast, the weaker association was probed in those with TG ≥ 1.7 mmol/L. CONCLUSION The present study reveals a positive and non-linear relationship between the GGT/HDL-c ratio and NAFLD risk in a non-obese Chinese population. GGT/HDL-c ratio is strongly associated with NAFLD when GGT/HDL-c ratio is less than 20.35. Therefore, maintaining the GGT/HDL-c ratio lower than the inflection point is recommended from a treatment perspective.

Abstract
Although studies have suggested organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) exposure increased the risk of epithelial ovarian cancer, the mechanisms underlying its potential tumorigenic effects in the human ovary are not well understood. In this study, we investigated the impact of dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), endosulfan, and heptachlor exposure on epithelial cadherin (E-cadherin) and proinflammatory mediators in human ovary surface epithelial (HOSE) cells. We found that DDE, endosulfan, and heptachlor exposure resulted in epithelial differentiation accompanied by upregulation of E-cadherin expression and overexpression of proinflammatory cytokines (TNFα, IL-1β, and IL-6) in HOSE cells. The epithelial differentiation may accelerate HOSE cells to inclusion body formation, a common site for ovarian cancer initiation and persistent exposure to OCPs creates a chronic inflammatory microenvironment that may promote the neoplastic transformation of HOSE cells within the inclusion cyst.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Risk of ovarian cancer in women with frequent perineal talcum powder product is not well understood. Prior systematic reviews focused on ever use. The purpose of this study is to estimate the association between frequent (at least 2 times per week) perineal talcum powder use and ovarian cancer. METHODS A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted according to meta-analysis of observational studies in epidemiology guidelines. Study protocol was prospectively registered at PROSPERO (registration number CRD42020172720). Searches were performed in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases from their inception to August 2, 2021. Case-control and cohort studies were included if they reported frequent perineal talcum powder use and an adjusted odds ratio or hazard ratio for ovarian cancer. Review for inclusion, data extraction, and quality assessment (using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale [NOS]) were performed independently by two reviewers. Pooled adjusted odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals were generated from the random effects model. Heterogeneity was quantified with I2 statistic. Funnel plot and Eger's test were performed to assess publication bias. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed for testing the robustness of the overall findings. RESULTS Initial database searches returned 761 unique citations and after review, eleven studies describing 66,876 patients, and 6542 cancers were included (Cohen's κ = 0.88). Publication quality was high (median NOS = 8, range: 4 to 9). Frequent talcum powder use was associated with an elevated risk of ovarian cancer (adjusted pooled summary odds ratio 1.47 (95% CI 1.31, 1.65, P<0.0001). There was no evidence of bias and low heterogeneity (I2= 24%, P=0.22). There was no meaningful difference limiting analysis to publications with a NOS quality score of 8 or 9 or limiting studies based on study design. CONCLUSIONS This review suggests an increased risk of ovarian cancer associated with frequent perineal powder exposure of 31-65%.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is suggestive evidence that inflammation is related to ovarian cancer survival. However, more research is needed to identify inflammation-related factors that are associated with ovarian cancer survival and to determine their combined effects. METHODS This analysis used pooled data on 8,147 women with invasive epithelial ovarian cancer from the Ovarian Cancer Association Consortium. The prediagnosis inflammation-related exposures of interest included alcohol use; aspirin use; other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug use; body mass index; environmental tobacco smoke exposure; history of pelvic inflammatory disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and endometriosis; menopausal hormone therapy use; physical inactivity; smoking status; and talc use. Using Cox proportional hazards models, the relationship between each exposure and survival was assessed in 50% of the data. A weighted inflammation-related risk score (IRRS) was developed, and its association with survival was assessed using Cox proportional hazards models in the remaining 50% of the data. RESULTS There was a statistically significant trend of increasing risk of death per quartile of the IRRS [HR = 1.09; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.03-1.14]. Women in the upper quartile of the IRRS had a 31% higher death rate compared with the lowest quartile (95% CI, 1.11-1.54). CONCLUSIONS A higher prediagnosis IRRS was associated with an increased mortality risk after an ovarian cancer diagnosis. Further investigation is warranted to evaluate whether postdiagnosis exposures are also associated with survival. IMPACT Given that pre- and postdiagnosis exposures are often correlated and many are modifiable, our study results can ultimately motivate the development of behavioral recommendations to enhance survival among patients with ovarian cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Genital powder use is more common among African-American women; however, studies of genital powder use and ovarian cancer risk have been conducted predominantly in White populations, and histotype-specific analyses among African-American populations are limited. METHODS We used data from five studies in the Ovarian Cancer in Women of African Ancestry consortium. Participants included 620 African-American cases, 1,146 African-American controls, 2,800 White cases, and 6,735 White controls who answered questions on genital powder use prior to 2014. The association between genital powder use and ovarian cancer risk by race was estimated using logistic regression. RESULTS The prevalence of ever genital powder use for cases was 35.8% among African-American women and 29.5% among White women. Ever use of genital powder was associated with higher odds of ovarian cancer among African-American women [OR = 1.22; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.97-1.53] and White women (OR = 1.36; 95% CI = 1.19-1.57). In African-American women, the positive association with risk was more pronounced among high-grade serous tumors (OR = 1.31; 95% CI = 1.01-1.71) than with all other histotypes (OR = 1.05; 95% CI = 0.75-1.47). In White women, a significant association was observed irrespective of histotype (OR = 1.33; 95% CI = 1.12-1.56 and OR = 1.38; 95% CI = 1.15-1.66, respectively). CONCLUSIONS While genital powder use was more prevalent among African-American women, the associations between genital powder use and ovarian cancer risk were similar across race and did not materially vary by histotype. IMPACT This is one of the largest studies to date to compare the associations between genital powder use and ovarian cancer risk, overall and by histotype, between African-American and White women.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the performance effects of fumed silica and cornstarch as alternatives to talc in cosmetic powder formulations. METHODS FT4 Powder Rheometer from Freeman Technology was used to test the flowability and compressibility of compact powder formulation samples containing talc, fumed silica and cornstarch at varying concentrations. The colour of the samples is evaluated by physical observation. RESULTS The results show that the concentration of these additives influences the performance of cosmetic powder formulations. Improved compressibility is assessed as an increase in the compressibility percentage, while improved flowability is assessed by reduction in the flow energy of each sample. Talc shows improved compressibility at a minimum of 10% but would require more than 20% to impart improved flow performance. Fumed Silica shows improved compressibility from as low as 5% and this performance increases as the concentration is increased up to 20%. For the flow effects, fumed silica shows a reduction in the flow energy from as little as 5% and this effect is more drastic as the concentration is increased up to 20%. Cornstarch, however, shows a reverse effect for both compressibility and flowability with increasing flow energy and decreasing compressibility with increasing cornstarch concentration. It shows improved compressibility up to a maximum of 10% and improved flow only at concentrations lower than 5%. For a mixture of cornstarch and fumed silica at a total of 5%, both compressibility and flowability are increased as the concentration of cornstarch is reduced and that of fumed silica increased. CONCLUSION Fumed silica and cornstarch are suitable as alternatives to talc in cosmetic powder formulations. Of the two, Fumed silica showed better compressibility and flow effects. However, a mix of both powders had suitable effects on the compressibility, flow and colour of the formulation.

Abstract
Many women apply powder to the genital area as a drying agent. Talc, an inert mineral with a high capacity to absorb water, has historically been a major component of body powders. Due to its similarity and co-occurrence with asbestos, the association of body powder/talc use and gynecological cancer risk, specifically ovarian cancer risk, has been a long-standing research question. Retrospective case-control studies have shown associations between genital powder use and ovarian cancer risk, with summary relative risk estimates from meta-analyses and pooled analyses ranging from 1.24 to 1.35 for ever versus never use. In contrast, prospective cohort studies have not shown a statistically significant association until recently, when a pooled analysis of four large cohorts demonstrated a weak, but statistically significant association among women with patent reproductive tracts (hazard ratio 1.13). Taken together, the epidemiological data from case-control studies and cohort studies suggest that there may be a small, positive association between genital powder use and ovarian cancer. The causal factors underlying this association are not clear. Proposed factors include talc, other minerals, such as asbestos or quartz, that are known carcinogens and may contaminate talc products, or other powder ingredients that could cause inflammation of the reproductive tracts. Given the rarity of ovarian cancer in the general population, the small increase in relative risk translates to a very low increase in absolute risk. Further research is needed to understand the underpinnings of the observed association between genital powder use and ovarian cancer risk.

Abstract
Results of studies assessing intrauterine device (IUD) use and ovarian cancer risk are inconsistent. We examined the association between IUD use, including duration, type and timing of use, and ovarian cancer risk using three population-based studies. Data from the New England Case-Control Study (NEC) and two prospective cohort studies, the Nurses' Health Studies (NHS/NHSII), were included in the analysis. Information on IUD use was collected by in-person interview in NEC and by biennial questionnaire in NHS/NHSII. We used unconditional logistic regression to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) in NEC and Cox regression to calculate hazard ratios (HR) and 95% CI in NHS/NHSII. We used meta-analysis to combine the NEC and the pooled NHS/NHSII results. Overall, IUD use was not associated with epithelial ovarian cancer risk (OR = 0.96, 95% CI: 0.81-1.14 in NEC; HR = 0.89, 95% CI: 0.69-1.15 in NHS/NHSII; combined RR = 0.94, 95% CI: 0.81-1.08). Among IUD users, older age at first use was associated with increased ovarian cancer risk (P-trend = .03). We did not observe significant associations by IUD type or duration of use. In conclusion, IUD use was not associated with ovarian cancer risk in our study.

Abstract
When powder is applied to the genital area, it has the potential to reach internal reproductive organs and promote carcinogenesis by irritating and inflaming exposed tissues. Although many studies have considered the association between genital powder use and ovarian cancer risk, the relationship between genital powder use and uterine cancer is less well-studied. We pooled data from four large, prospective cohorts (the Nurses' Health Study, the Nurses' Health Study II, the Sister Study and the Women's Health Initiative - Observational Study). We used Cox proportional hazards models to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), adjusting for prespecified confounders. In total, 209 185 women were included, with 37% reporting ever genital powder use. Over a mean 14.5 years of follow-up, 3272 invasive uterine cancers were diagnosed. There was no overall association between ever genital powder use and uterine cancer (HR = 1.01, 95% CI: 0.94-1.09), with little difference observed for frequent (≥1 times/week) vs never use (HR = 1.05, 95% CI: 0.95-1.16; P-for-trend = .46). Long-term use (>20 years; HR = 1.12, 95% CI: 0.96-1.31; P-for-trend = 0.14) was associated with a small, but not statistically significant, increase in risk, compared to never use. There were not clear differences by uterine cancer histologic subtypes or across strata of relevant covariates, including race/ethnicity, follow-up time, menopausal status and body mass index. The results of this large, pooled analysis do not support a relationship between the use of genital powder and uterine cancer, although the positive associations observed for long-term use may merit further consideration.

Abstract
Primary ovarian mesothelioma is a rare, aggressive neoplastic disease with a poor prognosis. At onset, the tumor is only rarely limited to the ovaries and usually already widespread in the peritoneum. The rarity of this entity and the difficulties differentiating it from either ovarian carcinoma or peritoneal mesothelioma may lead to frequent misdiagnoses and may raise some concerns about its histogenesis. Thus, reporting such rare cases is fundamental to gain greater awareness of this neoplasm and try to answer unsolved questions. Herein, we described four cases of histological diagnoses of ovarian mesothelioma extrapolated by the regional mesothelioma register of Apulia (southern Italy). In all cases, a detailed medical history was collected according to national mesothelioma register guidelines. A broad panel of antibodies was used for immunohistochemistry to confirm the diagnoses. Moreover, ovarian tissue samples were also examined by transmission and scanning electron microscopy, detecting asbestos fibers and talc crystals in two cases. Because of the few cases described, we reviewed the English literature in the Medline database, focusing on articles about ovarian mesothelioma "misclassification", "misdiagnosis", "diagnostic challenge" or "diagnostic pitfall" and on unsolved questions about its histogenesis and possible risk factors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Quantitative bias analysis (QBA) measures study errors in terms of direction, magnitude and uncertainty. This systematic review aimed to describe how QBA has been applied in epidemiological research in 2006-19. METHODS We searched PubMed for English peer-reviewed studies applying QBA to real-data applications. We also included studies citing selected sources or which were identified in a previous QBA review in pharmacoepidemiology. For each study, we extracted the rationale, methodology, bias-adjusted results and interpretation and assessed factors associated with reproducibility. RESULTS Of the 238 studies, the majority were embedded within papers whose main inferences were drawn from conventional approaches as secondary (sensitivity) analyses to quantity-specific biases (52%) or to assess the extent of bias required to shift the point estimate to the null (25%); 10% were standalone papers. The most common approach was probabilistic (57%). Misclassification was modelled in 57%, uncontrolled confounder(s) in 40% and selection bias in 17%. Most did not consider multiple biases or correlations between errors. When specified, bias parameters came from the literature (48%) more often than internal validation studies (29%). The majority (60%) of analyses resulted in >10% change from the conventional point estimate; however, most investigators (63%) did not alter their original interpretation. Degree of reproducibility related to inclusion of code, formulas, sensitivity analyses and supplementary materials, as well as the QBA rationale. CONCLUSIONS QBA applications were rare though increased over time. Future investigators should reference good practices and include details to promote transparency and to serve as a reference for other researchers.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Asbestos is a known cause of ovarian cancer. We report 10 cases of serous ovarian cancer among users of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) asbestos-containing "cosmetic" talc products. METHODS We conducted an asbestos exposure assessment during talc application and analyzed surgical tissues and talc containers for asbestos and talc. RESULTS Talc was found in all cases and tremolite and/or anthophyllite asbestos was found in 8/10 cases. The asbestos fibers found in the "cosmetic" talc containers matched those found in tissues. We estimated inhaled asbestos dose ranged from 0.38 to 5.18 fiber years. CONCLUSION We provide evidence that the inhaled dose of asbestos/fibrous talc from "cosmetic" talc use causes ovarian cancer. The unique combination of the types of asbestiform minerals detected in cancerous tissue and "cosmetic" talc is a fingerprint for exposure to asbestos-containing talc.

Abstract
Here we report epigenomic and transcriptomic changes in a prototypical J774 macrophage after engulfing talc or titanium dioxide particles in presence of estrogen. Macrophages are the first immune cells to engage and clear particles of various nature. A novel paradigm is emerging, that exposure to so-called 'inert' particulates that are considered innocuous is not really free of consequences. We hypothesized that especially the insoluble, non-digestible particles that do not release a known hazardous chemical can be underappreciated agents acting to affect the regulation inside macrophages upon phagocytosis. We performed gene chip microarray profiling and found that talc alone, and especially with oestrogen, has induced a substantially more prominent gene expression change than titanium dioxide; the affected genes were involved in pathways of cell proliferation, immune response and regulation, and, unexpectedly, enzymes and proteins of epigenetic regulation. We therefore tested the DNA methylation profiles of these cells via epigenome-wide bisulphite sequencing and found vast epigenetic changes in hundreds of loci, remarkably after a very short exposure to particles; ELISA assay for methylcytosine levels determined the particles induced an overall decrease in DNA methylation. We found a few loci where both the transcriptional changes and epigenetic changes occurred in the pathways involving immune and inflammatory signalling. Some transcriptomic and epigenomic changes were shared between talc and titanium dioxide, however, it is especially interesting that each of the two particles of similar size and insoluble nature has also induced a specific pattern of gene expression and DNA methylation changes which we report here.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Measure the size and shape of talc particles in talcum powder and compare this data to the size and shape of talc particles found in surgically resected tissues from patients with ovarian carcinoma. METHODS Using polarized light microscopy (PLM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), we measured the size and shape of talc particles in samples of talc-containing baby powder (TCBP) and surgically resected pelvic tissues (hysterectomies) from talc-exposed patients with ovarian carcinoma. RESULTS The most frequent class of particles in TCBP can be unequivocally identified as talc, using both polarized light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM/EDX). The talc particles found in resected tissues from ovarian carcinoma patients are similar in size and shape to the most abundant morphological class of particles in TCBP. CONCLUSIONS This finding, combined with previous epidemiological literature and tissue-based analytical studies, provides further evidence that the small, isodiametric particles that dominate TCBP can migrate from the perineum and become lodged in distal structures in the female reproductive tract, where they may lead to an increased risk of developing ovarian carcinoma.

Abstract
The association between perineal talc use and ovarian cancer has been evaluated in several epidemiology studies. Some case-control studies reported weak positive associations, while other case-control and three large prospective cohort investigations found this association to be null. A weight-of-evidence evaluation was conducted of the epidemiology, toxicity, exposure, transport, in vitro, and mechanistic evidence to determine whether, collectively, these data support a causal association. Our review of the literature indicated that, while both case-control and cohort studies may be impacted by bias, the possibility of recall and other biases from the low participation rates and retrospective self-reporting of talc exposure cannot be ruled out for any of the case-control studies. The hypothesis that talc exposure induces ovarian cancer is only supported if one discounts the null results of the cohort studies and the fact that significant bias and/or confounding are likely reasons for the associations reported in some case-control investigations. In addition, one would need to ignore the evidence from animal experiments that show no marked association with cancer, in vitro and genotoxicity studies that did not indicate a carcinogenic mechanism of action for talc, and mechanistic and transport investigations that did not support the retrograde transport of talc to the ovaries. An alternative hypothesis that talc does not produce ovarian cancer, and that bias and confounding contribute the reported positive associations in case-control studies, is better supported by the evidence across all scientific disciplines. It is concluded that the evidence does not support a causal association between perineal talc use and ovarian cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Talc, a hydrous magnesium silicate, often used for genital hygiene purposes, is associated with ovarian carcinoma in case-control studies. Its potential to cause inflammation, injury, and functional changes in cells has been described. A complication of such studies is that talc preparations may be contaminated with other materials. A previous study by (Beck et al. Toxicol Appl Pharmacol 87:222-34, 1987) used a hamster model to study talc and granite dust exposure effects on various biochemical and cellular inflammatory markers. Our current study accessed key materials used in that 1987 study; we re-analyzed the original talc dust with contemporary scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray analysis (SEM/EDX) for contaminants. We also examined the original bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) cells with polarized light microscopy to quantify cell-associated birefringent particles to gain insight into the talc used. RESULTS SEM/EDX analyses showed that asbestos fibers, quartz, and toxic metal particulates were below the limits of detection in the original talc powder. However, fibers with aspect ratios ≥3:1 accounted for 22% of instilled material, mostly as fibrous talc. Talc (based on Mg/Si atomic weight % ratio) was the most abundant chemical signature, and magnesium silicates with various other elements made up the remainder. BAL cell counts confirmed the presence of acute inflammation, which followed intratracheal instillation. Measurements of cell associated birefringent particles phagocytosis revealed significant differences among talc, granite, and control exposures with high initial uptake of talc compared to granite, but over the 14-day experiment, talc phagocytosis by lavaged cells was significantly less than that of granite. Phagocytosis of talc fibers by macrophages was observed, and birefringent particles were found in macrophages, neutrophils, and multinucleate giant cells in lavaged cells from talc-exposed animals. CONCLUSION Our data support the contention that talc, even without asbestos and other known toxic contaminants, may elicit inflammation and contribute to lung disease. Our findings support the conclusions of (Beck et al. Toxicol Appl Pharmacol 87:222-34, 1987) study. By analyzing particulate exposures with polarized light microscopy and SEM/EDX, fibrous talc was identified and a distinctive pattern of impaired particulate ingestion was demonstrated.

These data were collected from multiple electronic bibliographic databases, as well as from grey literature sources, without applying time, language or other filters. A meta-analysis was conducted to quantitatively assess the ovarian cancer risk in relation to talc use and other potential risk factors.

Abstract
The incidence (rate/100,000) of BOT gradually increases with age from 15-19 years of age and peaks at nearly 4.5 cases/100,000 for the 55-59 year age group (NP3). In the presence of a benign ovarian mass, the standardized risk ratio of serous and mucinous BOT is 1.69, (95% CI 1.39-2.03) and 1.75, (95% CI 1.45-2.10), respectively (NP2). At diagnosis, a median age of diagnosis of OFA is 46 years, unilateral forms (79.7% of cases) are predominant compared to cancers (45.3%) (<0.001) and FIGO I stages represent nearly 63.7% of cases (NP3). The 5-year survival rates for FIGO I, II, III, IV stages are: 99.7% (95% CI: 96.2-100%), 99.6% (95% CI: 92.6-100%), 95.3% (95% CI: 91.8-97.4%), 77.1% (95% CI: 58.0-88.3%), respectively (NP3). Survivors at 5 years for serous and mucinous tumours are 99.7% (95% CI: 99.2-99.9%), 98.5% (95% CI: 96.9-99.3%), respectively (NP3). An epidemiological association exists between personal BOT risk and: (1) a familial history of BOT/certain cancers (pancreas, lung, bone, leukemia) (NP3), (2) a personal history of benign ovarian cyst (NP2), (3) a personal history of pelvic inflammatory disease (IGH), (4) the use of intrauterine device levonorgestrel (NP3), (5) the use of oral contraceptive pills (NP3), (6) multiparity (NP3), (7) hormone replacement therapy (NP3), (8) high consumption of coumestrol (NP4), (9) medical treatment of infertility with progesterone (NP3), (10) non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). An epidemiological association exists between previous/actual tabacco consumption and the risk of mucinous ovarian BOT (NP2). Relative risk (RR) varies between 2.2 and 2.7, however the relationship is not necessarily a causal one. An epidemiological association exists between overweight/obesity and the risk of serous BOT (NP2). RR varies between 1.2 to 1.8. The high Vitamin D was inversely associated to the risk of serous BOT (NP4). The risk of mucinous BOT was lowered with paracetamol use (OR=0.77; 95% CI: 0.60-0.98) (NP3). However, the relationship between these factors and BOT is not necessarily a causal one and no screening modality can be proposed in the general population (gradeC).

Abstract
Talc and titanium dioxide are naturally occurring water-insoluble mined products usually available in the form of particulate matter. This study was prompted by epidemiological observations suggesting that perineal use of talc powder is associated with increased risk of ovarian cancer, particularly in a milieu with higher estrogen. We aimed to test the effects of talc vs. control particles on the ability of prototypical macrophage cell lines to curb the growth of ovarian cancer cells in culture in the presence of estrogen. We found that murine ovarian surface epithelial cells (MOSEC), a prototype of certain forms of ovarian cancer, were present in larger numbers after co-culture with macrophages treated to a combination of talc and estradiol than to either agent alone or vehicle. Control particles (titanium dioxide, concentrated urban air particulates or diesel exhaust particles) did not have this effect. Co-exposure of macrophages to talc and estradiol has led to increased production of reactive oxygen species and changes in expression of macrophage genes pertinent in cancer development and immunosurveillance. These findings suggest that in vitro exposure to talc, particularly in a high-estrogen environment, may compromise immunosurveillance functions of macrophages and prompt further studies to elucidate this mechanism.

Abstract
Background The aim of this pilot study was to assess the feasibility of a large-scale epidemiologic investigation elucidating the quantitative association between occupational exposure to asbestos and ovarian cancer in former German asbestos workers. Methods Between December 2017 and May 2018, a random sample of one thousand insured woman registered at the health service of a German trade association as formerly occupationally exposed to asbestos were invited to participate in a pilot study. Participation included a phone interview using a standardised questionnaire. The feasibility of the project was evaluated using a priori defined criteria. They included response, number of cases, eligibility of the questionnaire data for exact estimation of asbestos fibre-years, and availability of relevant medical documentation (imaging procedures, medical reports, and histologic materials). Results The response (17%) was clearly below the intended number of 60%. With six tumour suspects, of which two could be confirmed by medical documents, the number of cases was within the expected range of two to eleven cases. Exact asbestos fibre-year estimations could be performed for 29% of all interviewees, but only for one suspected case. Medical documentation could be collected for only few participants, while no histology reports could be obtained for all cases. Thus, only the feasibility criterion of the expected number of cases was fulfilled. Conclusion The results of the pilot study indicate that the planned project is feasible only to a very limited extent. For further planning of the study, measures to improve recruitment of participants are necessary.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Genital talc use is associated with increased risk for ovarian carcinoma in epidemiologic studies. Finding talc in pelvic tissues in women with ovarian carcinoma who have used talc is important in documenting exposure and assessing talc's biologic potential, but tissue-based morphology studies have been rarely reported. METHODS We report five patient cases with documented perineal talc use, each of whom had talc (by both polarized light and scanning electron microscopy) in multiple pelvic sites distant from the perineum. Six negative-exposure control patients were also analyzed. RESULTS Talc particles were found in exposed patients, typically within two or more of the following locations: pelvic region lymph nodes, cervix, uterine corpus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. CONCLUSIONS Our report adds new insights into the biologic potential of talc and suggests additional anatomic sites that should be closely examined for talc by oncologic surgical pathologists in the setting of perineal talc use.

Abstract
PURPOSE Although the incidence rate of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is somewhat lower in African American (AA) than white women, survival is worse. The Ovarian Cancer in Women of African Ancestry (OCWAA) consortium will overcome small, study-specific sample sizes to better understand racial differences in EOC risk and outcomes. METHODS We harmonized risk factors and prognostic characteristics from eight U.S. STUDIES the North Carolina Ovarian Cancer Study (NCOCS), the Los Angeles County Ovarian Cancer Study (LACOCS), the African American Cancer Epidemiology Study (AACES), the Cook County Case-Control Study (CCCCS), the Black Women's Health Study (BWHS), the Women's Health Initiative (WHI), the Multiethnic Cohort Study (MEC), and the Southern Community Cohort Study (SCCS). RESULTS Determinants of disparities for risk and survival in 1,146 AA EOC cases and 2,922 AA controls will be compared to 3,368 white EOC cases and 10,270 white controls. Analyses include estimation of population-attributable risk percent (PAR%) by race. CONCLUSION OCWAA is uniquely positioned to study the epidemiology of EOC in AA women compared with white women to address disparities. Studies of EOC have been underpowered to address factors that may explain AA-white differences in the incidence and survival. OCWAA promises to provide novel insight into disparities in ovarian cancer.

Abstract
Over the past four decades, there has been increasing concern that perineal use of talc powder, a commonly used personal care product, might be associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer. OBJECTIVES To critically review all available human epidemiological data on the relationship between perineal use of talc powder and ovarian cancer, with consideration of other relevant experimental evidence. METHODOLOGY We identified 30 human studies for qualitative assessment of evidence, including 27 that were retained for further quantitative analysis. RESULTS A positive association between perineal use of talc powder and ovarian cancer was found [OR: 1.28 (95% CI: 1.20-1.37)]. A significant risk was noted in Hispanics and Whites, in women applying talc to underwear, in pre-menopausal women and in post-menopausal women receiving hormonal therapy. A negative association was noted with tubal ligation. CONCLUSION Perineal use of talc powder is a possible cause of human ovarian cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Douching is associated with disorders involving genital tract inflammation and genital talc use with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), but their joint effects are infrequently considered. METHODS From 2,040 cases of EOC and 2,100 controls enrolled in eastern Massachusetts and New Hampshire, we used unconditional logistic regression to estimate risk for EOC associated with douching and/or talc use. In subsets of cases and controls, we also collected information about pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), ectopic pregnancy, and cervical neoplasia to estimate risk for these events from douching and/or talc use. RESULTS The adjusted OR and 95% confidence interval (CI) for all EOC was 0.94 (0.76-1.16) in women who douched but never used talc and 1.28 (1.09-1.51) in women who used talc but never douched. Compared with women who never regularly douched or used talc, ORs (95% CIs) were 0.83 (0.52-1.33) for women who both used talc and homemade douches and 1.53 (1.11-2.10) for women who both used talc and store-bought douches. Cases who both douched and used talc were more likely to have had PID compared with cases who had used neither [OR = 5.03 (95% CI, 1.61-15.7)]. CONCLUSIONS Douching is not an independent risk factor for ovarian cancer, but the combination of talc use and store-bought douches may modestly increase the risk for EOC beyond that for talc use alone. IMPACT The joint effect of talc use and douching, especially with commercial products, should be considered in evaluating risks associated with disorders involving genital tract inflammation or EOC.

Abstract
A 73-year-old Japanese man, who worked at a confectionery company for more than 20 years, was diagnosed with a 28 mm nodular lesion in the superior lobe of the right lung by whole-body computed tomography examination. A biopsy revealed the presence of adenocarcinoma. With a diagnosis of a primary lung cancer, a right upper lobectomy was performed. A nodular lesion, 25 × 23 mm in size, was observed in the upper right lobe lung field, and was diagnosed histopathologically as a papillary adenocarcinoma. In addition, fibrous scars in the central part of the tumor showed numerous Langhans and/or foreign body giant cells, and histiocytic cells that had phagocytized numerous small transparent crystals, together with coal powder deposition. The extracted crystals were observed with a scanning electron microscope, and although plate-like structures were observed, ferruginous bodies suggestive of asbestos were not found. The crystals were demonstrated to be talc by powder X-ray diffraction. Herein, we investigated a case of lung adenocarcinoma in a patient with talcosis, with discussions based on a literature search. This collision of talcosis and lung adenocarcinoma adds to an increasing body of knowledge on an apparent association between talc and cancer cases.

Abstract
Given the current lack of effective screening for ovarian cancer, surgical removal of at-risk tissue is the most successful strategy to decrease risk of cancer development. However, the optimal timing of surgery and tissues to remove, as well as the appropriate patients to undergo preventive procedures are poorly understood. In this review, we first discuss the origin and precursors of ovarian epithelial carcinomas, focusing on high-grade serous carcinomas and endometriosis-associated carcinomas, which cause the majority of the mortality and incidence of ovarian cancer. In addition, we summarize the implications of current understanding of specific pathogenic origins for surgical prevention and remaining gaps in knowledge. Secondly, we review evidence from the epidemiologic literature on the associations of various surgical prevention strategies, including endometriosis excision, tubal procedures, and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, with risk of future ovarian cancer development, as well as the short- and long-term consequences of these strategies on women's health and quality and life. We conclude with recommendations for surgical prevention in women with high-risk genetic mutations and average-risk women, and a brief discussion of ongoing research that will help clarify optimal surgical approaches that balance risk-reduction with maintenance of women's quality of life.

Abstract
There have been numerous controversies surrounding cosmetic products and increased cancer risk. Such controversies include associations between parabens and breast cancer, hair dyes and hematologic malignancies, and talc powders and ovarian cancer. Despite the prominent media coverage and numerous scientific investigations, the majority of these associations currently lack conclusive evidence. In 2016, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made publically available all adverse event reports in Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition's Adverse Event Reporting System (CAERS), which includes complaints related to cosmetic products. We mined CAERS for cancer-related reports attributed to cosmetics. Between 2004 and 2017, cancer-related reports caused by cosmetics represented 41% of all adverse events related to cosmetics. This yielded 4427 individual reports of cancer related to a cosmetic product. Of these reports, the FDA redacted the specific product names in 95% of cancer-related reports under the Freedom of Information Act exemptions, most likely due to ongoing legal proceedings. For redacted reports, ovarian cancer reports dominated (n = 3992, 90%), followed by mesothelioma (n = 92, 2%) and malignant neoplasm unspecified (n = 46, 1%). For nonredacted reports, or those reports whose product names were not withheld (n = 218), 70% were related to ovarian cancer attributed to talc powders, followed by skin cancer (11%) and breast cancer (5%) attributed to topical moisturizers. Currently, CAERS is of limited utility, with the available data having been subjected to significant reporter bias and a lack of supportive information such as demographic data, medical history, or concomitant product use. Although the system has promise for safeguarding public health, the future utility of the database requires broader reporting participation and more complete reporting, paired with parallel investments in regulatory science and improved molecular methods.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Douching was recently reported to be associated with elevated levels of urinary metabolites of endocrine disrupting phthalates, but there is no literature on douching in relation to ovarian cancer. Numerous case-control studies of genital talc use have reported an increased risk of ovarian cancer, but prospective cohort studies have not uniformly confirmed this association. Behavioral correlation between talc use and douching could produce confounding. METHODS The Sister Study (2003-2009) enrolled and followed 50,884 women in the US and Puerto Rico who had a sister diagnosed with breast cancer. At baseline, participants were asked about douching and talc use during the previous 12 months. During follow-up (median of 6.6 years), 154 participants reported a diagnosis of ovarian cancer. We computed adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for ovarian cancer risk using the Cox proportional hazards model. RESULTS There was little association between baseline perineal talc use and subsequent ovarian cancer (HR: 0.73, CI: 0.44, 1.2). Douching was more common among talc users (odds ratio: 2.1, CI: 2.0, 2.3), and douching at baseline was associated with increased subsequent risk of ovarian cancer (HR: 1.8, CI: 1.2, 2.8). CONCLUSIONS Douching but not talc use was associated with increased risk of ovarian cancer in the Sister Study.
