Abstract
Background/Objectives: Individuals with post-COVID-19 conditions risk developing short- and/or long-term neuromuscular impairments, including postural imbalance. However, there is limited evidence showing whether balance deficits are associated with declines in the functional status in post-COVID-19 individuals. This study examined postural balance in non-hospitalized post-COVID-19 individuals using different assessment tools and tested the most relevant balance tools in predicting functional status. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 60 adults split into control (n = 30) and post-COVID-19 (n = 30) groups. Postural balance was assessed in both groups using the Functional Reach Test (FRT), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Timed Up and Go (TUG), Tinetti Balance Test (Tinetti), and Mini-BESTest (MBT). Functional status in the post-COVID-19 group was assessed using post-COVID-19 functional status (PCFS). Results: Significant differences in postural stability between groups were found only for the FRT. All balance tests showed a statistically significant correlation with PCFS in the post-COVID-19 group, with better performance in all tests being associated with better functional status: Tinetti (r = -0.584), FRT (r = -0.542), MBT (r = -0.530), BBS (r = -0.415) and TUG (r = 0.368). Tinetti was the independent variable that significantly played an important role in determining PCFS (adjusted R2 = 0.318, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Post-COVID-19 functional status is best determined by the Tinetti Balance Test, making it an effective tool for assessing postural balance deficits in this population, with potential implications for postural control assessment and rehabilitation.

Abstract
Objective To explore the predictive value of cellular inflammatory factors and T cell subsets for disease recurrence and prognosis in patients with acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods Serum samples were collected from the two groups to detect and compare the levels of inflammatory cytokines [interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)], T cell subsets (CD4+, CD8+), and clinical related indicators. Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between inflammatory cytokines, T cell subsets, and clinical indicators. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted to analyze the predictive value of serum inflammatory factors and T cell subsets for acute exacerbations of COPD. Results The observation group had higher levels of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and CD8+, and lower CD4+ levels (P<0.05). The ratio of forced expiratory volume in 1 second to forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC) was lower, while procalcitonin (PCT) and white blood cell count (WBC) were higher (P<0.05). Correlation analysis showed positive correlations between IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and CD8+, and negative correlations with CD4+ and FEV1/FVC (P<0.05). After 6 months, 15 out of 73 patients had acute recurrences, with higher IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and CD8+ levels (P<0.05). Binary logistic regression identified IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and CD8+ as significant predictors of exacerbations, while CD4+ was protective. ROC analysis showed that combined biomarkers had the highest predictive efficiency (AUC = 0.907). Conclusion This study is the first to integrate multiple serum inflammatory factors and T cell subsets into a comprehensive predictive model for acute recurrence of COPD within six months (AUC = 0.907), offering a more accurate prediction than traditional methods. The findings underscore the value of these biomarkers in clinical follow-up and highlight their independent predictive power, providing new insights into the interaction between immune markers and clinical indicators in COPD exacerbations.

Abstract
Background/Objectives: Patients with post-COVID-2019 syndrome may have reduced functional capacity and physical activity levels. The pulmonary rehabilitation program (PRP)-an exercise training program-is designed to restore these functions and has been shown to improve dyspnea, exercise capacity, and other measures in these patients. This study aimed to analyze the effects of the RP on post-COVID-19 syndrome patients with respect to objective and subjective functional capacity, balance, and musculoskeletal strength. Methods: A prospective interventional trial was conducted before and after this phase. Patients were referred to the hospital with a confirmed diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 and subsequently directed to the RP. These patients underwent an 8-week pulmonary rehabilitation program (45-min sessions 3 times/week). Each session consisted of stationary cycle-ergometer and resistance musculoskeletal exercises tailored to individuals' performance. They were evaluated pre- and post-PRP using the maximal handgrip strength (HGS) test, timed up-and-go test, 6-min walk test and its derived variables, and Duke Activity Status Index questionnaire. Results: From 142 hospitalized patients admitted with a diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection, 60 completed the program, with an attendance rate of 85%. Nineteen patients were categorized as severe/critical, with a significantly higher hospital stay, compared to mild/moderate patients, and there were no differences in terms of sex distribution, age, or BMI between groups. Compared to the pre-PRP evaluation, both groups showed significant (p < 0.001) improvements in TUG, HGS, DASI D6MWT, 6MWS, and DSP variables after the PRP conduction. In addition, the groups exhibited similar improvement patterns following PRP (intragroup analysis), with no intergroup differences. Conclusions: RPs promote both objective and subjective functional capacity in patients with post-COVID-19 syndrome, with no difference in improvement regardless of the severity of the initial infection.

Abstract
To assess malnutrition contribution to the functional status and health related quality of life after hospitalization due to COVID-19 pneumonia, 66 selected adults referred for physical rehabilitation accepted to participate in the study; none of them required oxygen supply or had history of lung/musculoskeletal/neurological/immune/rheumatic disease or trauma, or contraindication for respiratory-function tests. At three evaluations, with 3 months in-between, assessments included: self-report of functional status, the St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire, spirometry, the 6-min-walk-test, the MRC-scale, the 30-s sit-to-stand-test, the timed-up-and-go-test, nutritional status, and ultrasound imaging (vastus medialis and diaphragm). At referral, patients had nutritional deficits with protein deficiency, which gradually improved; while muscle thickness (of both vastus medialis and diaphragm) increased, along with muscle strength and mobility (ANOVA, p < 0.05). Contrarywise, the distance covered during the 6-min-walk-test decreased (ANOVA, p < 0.05), with a negative influence from excess body mass. During rehabilitation, health-related quality of life and functional status improved, with negative influence from a history of tobacco use and referral delay, respectively. After hospitalization due to COVID-19, early diagnosis of both protein deficiency and decrease of skeletal muscle thickness could be relevant for rehabilitation, while pondering the negative impact of excess body mass on submaximal exercise performance.

Abstract
Critical illness survivors commonly face impairments, such as intensive care unit-acquired weakness (ICUAW) which is characterized by muscle weakness and sensory deficits. Despite these symptoms indicating potential balance deficits, systematic investigations and validated assessments are lacking. Therefore, we aimed to assess balance function using the Mini-BESTest, evaluate its psychometric properties, and identify associated variables. Balance was assessed post-ICU discharge (V1) and at discharge from inpatient neurorehabilitation (V2) in patients with ≥ 5 days of invasive ventilation. Mini-BESTest measurement characteristics were evaluated in an ambulatory subgroup. A multiple linear regression was conducted. The prospective cohort study comprised 250 patients (34% female, 62 ± 14 years, median ICU stay 55 days). Median Mini-BESTest scores improved significantly from V1 (5 (IQR 0-15)) to V2 (18.5 (10-23)) with a large effect size. Excellent inter-rater and test-retest reliabilities of the Mini-BESTest were observed (ICC = 0.981/0.950). Validity was demonstrated by a very high correlation with the Berg Balance Scale (ρ = 0.90). No floor or ceiling effects were detected. Muscle strength, cognitive function, cerebral disease, critical illness polyneuropathy/myopathy, and depression were significantly associated with balance. Despite significant improvements during the rehabilitation period, balance disorders were prevalent in critical illness survivors. Ongoing therapy is recommended. Due to its excellent psychometric properties, the Mini-BESTest is suitable for use in critical illness survivors.Registration: The study was registered at the German Clinical Trials Register (DRKS00021753, date of registration: 2020-09-03).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Assessment of extrapulmonary comorbidities is essential in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Deterioration of balance and increasing fear of falling are two of the most significant extrapulmonary manifestations. Although pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is well-known and effective for COPD patients, there is a need for alternative treatments to enhance balance and alleviate concerns about falling. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Body Awareness Therapy (BAT), in addition to the PR program, on balance and fear of falling in patients with COPD. METHODS Forty-three patients were randomized into two groups: the BAT + PR group (BAT: once a week, 60 min + PR: 30 min, seven days of the week) or the PR group (PR: 30 min, seven days of the week) for eight weeks. Primary (balance, fear of falling) and secondary (dyspnea, muscle strength, functional capacity) outcomes were assessed at two different times: the baseline and end of the eight weeks. RESULTS Significant improvements were found in dynamic balance (reaction time η2 = 0.777, movement velocity η2 = 0.789, endpoint excursion η2 = 0.687, maximal excursion η2 = 0.887), static balance on firm ground (eyes opened η2 = 0.679, eyes closed η2 = 0.705), dyspnea (η2 = 0.546), muscle strength (η2 = 0.803), and functional capacity (η2 = 0.859) of the BAT + PR group (p < 0.05 for all). The improvement in fear of falling was significantly greater in the BAT + PR group than in the PR group (p < 0.001, η2 = 0.331). CONCLUSION The BAT method added to PR was more effective than PR alone in improving balance and reducing the fear of falling in COPD patients. Purpose The primary objective was to investigate the effects of Pilates exercises on CS, and the secondary objective was to assess static trunk balance after recovery from COVID-19. Patients and Methods 145 recovered COVID-19 university students between the ages of 19 and 25 participated in this single-blinded, randomized controlled trial study. The participants were divided into a Pilates group and a control group, each of which received a home exercise program. Core muscle endurance was measured using the five basic endurance tests and static balance using the Prokin system with open eyes (OE) and closed eyes (CE) at baseline and after three months of treatment. Results All measured parameters showed improvement within the groups after treatment. Group comparison revealed a significant increase in the Pilates group in all core endurance tests (P<0.001). The Prokin system results showed improvement in the Pilates group after treatment, while perimeter with OE, CE, and ellipse area with EC decreased (P<0.001), but there was no significant difference in ellipse with OE between the groups. Conclusion Pilates exercises positively improved core muscle endurance and trunk balance in people infected with COVID-19, which will be reflected in their quality of movement patterns and quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The feasibility and safety of rehabilitation interventions for individuals recovering from COVID-19 after the acute stage is not well understood. This pilot study aims to provide a preliminary investigation of the feasibility and safety of providing high-intensity gait training (HIT) with a targeted cardiovascular intensity of 70-85% of the age-predicted maximum heart rate (HRmax) for individuals undergoing rehabilitation post-COVID-19. METHODS Consecutive patients who were medically cleared for HIT were invited to participate in the study. Participants practiced walking in varied contexts (treadmill, overground, and stairs), aiming to spend as much time as possible within their target cardiovascular intensity zone during scheduled physical therapy (PT) sessions. Training characteristics and adverse events were collected to determine the feasibility and safety of HIT. The severity of adverse events was graded on a 1-5 scale according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events. RESULTS The participants (n = 20) took a mean of 2093 (±619) steps per PT session. The average peak heart rate during PT sessions was 81.1% (±9.4) of HRmax, and 30.1% (±21.0) of the session time was spent at heart rates ≥ 70% HRmax. Mild adverse events (grade 1) occurred in <5% of the sessions, and no intervention-requiring or life-threatening adverse events (grade 2-5) occurred. CONCLUSION This pilot study provides preliminary evidence that HIT may be feasible and safe during inpatient rehabilitation for patients post-COVID-19 following medical clearance.

Abstract
Background The acute clinical repercussions of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been widely studied. However, the possible late repercussions of long COVID have not yet been well defined in the literature. Objectives To identify the presence of pain and musculoskeletal disability in patients with Long COVID and also to identify predictive factors for pain intensity in this population. Methods In this cross-sectional and retrospective observational study individuals with Long COVID symptoms were included. It was collected musculoskeletal disability measures, data from patient-related outcome measures and variables from a COVID-19 outpatient service database. Associations and sub-group analyses were performed considering the variables pain, disability and hospitalization. Linear regression was performed to identify predictive factors for pain intensity in Long COVID patients. Results We evaluated 195 patients and most of them (57%) presented musculoskeletal pain in one area of the body. Pain sub-group presented worse disability indices and worse clinical course during hospitalization. Hospitalized patients presented worse disability indices comparing to non-hospitalized. Significant correlations were found between pain and days of non-invasive oxygen support (r = 0.21; p = 0.003); days in intensive care unit (r = 0.22; p = 0.002) and days in invasive mechanical ventilation (r = 0.35; p = 0.001). Hospitalized individuals showed a higher chance of presenting late musculoskeletal pain (OR = 1.42: 95%CI 1.09-2.04). Days in intensive care unit (β = 0,234: P = 0,001) and days in invasive mechanical ventilation (β = 0.764: P = 0.001) were predictors of pain intensity [F(2,192) = 18.559; R2 = 0.231; p = 0.001]. Conclusion Individuals with Long COVID presented musculoskeletal pain and disability. Hospitalized patients showed a greater chance of having musculoskeletal pain. Days in intensive care unit and days in invasive mechanical ventilation were predictors of late musculoskeletal pain intensity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Bilateral vestibulopathy (BVP) leads to unsteadiness when walking, which worsens in darkness or on uneven ground, as well as falls. Since simple balance tests struggle to distinguish between BVP and healthy participants, we aimed (1) to test if the Mini-BESTest is feasible in BVP, (2) how people with BVP perform on the Mini-BESTest and (3) to compare these scores with healthy reference data. METHODS Fifty participants with BVP completed the Mini-BESTest. 12-month falls incidence was obtained by questionnaire. To compare the overall and sub-scores between our participants with BVP and those of healthy participants from the literature (n = 327; obtained via PubMed searches), Mann-Whitney U tests were used. Sub scores within the BVP group were also compared. Spearman correlations were used to investigate the relationships between Mini-BESTest score and age. RESULTS No floor or ceiling effects were observed. Participants with BVP had significantly lower Mini-BESTest total scores than the healthy group. Anticipatory, reactive postural control and sensory orientation sub scores of the Mini-BESTest were significantly lower in BVP, while dynamic gait sub scores were not significantly different. A stronger negative correlation between age and Mini-BESTest total score was found in BVP than in the healthy group. Scores did not differ between patients with different falls history. CONCLUSION The Mini-BESTest is feasible in BVP. Our results confirm the commonly reported balance deficits in BVP. The stronger negative association between age and balance in BVP might reflect the age-related decline in the remaining sensory systems with which people with BVP compensate.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) on postural sway in subjects who have recently recovered from infection. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty-six female individuals with a mild to moderate history of SARS-CoV-2 (n = 25, mean age; 21.13 ± 0.64 years) and healthy sedentary controls (n = 31, mean age; 20.09 ± 1.05 years) were included in the study. Postural sway tests were performed in double and single-leg stance on a force plate with eyes open before and after the neuromuscular fatigue test. The Wingate test was used to induce neuromuscular fatigue. To evaluate the change of the variables determined by the measurements of the groups over time and the group-time interactions, a two-way analysis of variance in repeated measures (mixed design repeated measures ANOVA) was used. RESULTS It was found that the SARS-CoV-2 group showed increased total sway path, velocity, and area than those in the healthy group on double and single-leg (right-left) stance (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Even if SARS-CoV-2 group individuals have been reported in a mild to moderate outpatient COVID-19 process, they showed deterioration in postural control compared to healthy individuals. In addition, it was found that SARS-CoV-2 accelerated neuromuscular fatigue effects. This can cause more fatigue during activities than individuals who have not had SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract
In 2019, the Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) virus was identified, also defined as novel coronavirus or severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The Corona VIrus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic generated several changes in society in 2020 as a result of its rapid spread in humans. The main symptoms are high fever (≥ 37.8 °C), dry cough, dyspnea, upper respiratory symptoms, myalgia, fatigue and diarrhea in the most uncommon cases. Considering the emergency situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the effects attributed to it, rehabilitation professionals have a fundamental role in the functional recovery of patients, independence and improvement of quality of life. This is a systematic review of the literature, with the aim of discussing the main findings on physical therapy management in functional changes in post-COVID-19 patients. Pubmed, Scielo, Sciencedirect, BVS and PEDro databases were used. The terms MESH/DECs used for the searches were: Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy Modalities, Covid-19, Post-acute Syndromes COVID-19 and Physical Fitness, the keywords were also used: rehabilitation, physiotherapy, Covid-19, post- acute syndrome COVID-19 and functional capacity. To cross the terms, Boolean operators (AND and OR) were used. Randomized trials, recommendations, quasi-randomized or prospective controlled trials, reports, guidelines, and field updates were included. As for the selected population, studies were included in individuals of both sexes, with no age restriction, that evaluated physiotherapeutic interventions in patients who had COVID-19. Literature reviews, case studies, conferences, abstracts of articles published in conference proceedings and letters to the editor were excluded from the research. To measure methodological quality, the PEDro scale was used.Searches for articles were performed restricting the period of publication between the years 2019 to 2022. The electronic search strategy identified a total of 364 records from the selected databases. After screening for duplicates, 14 articles were excluded, followed by screening by titles and abstracts, another 298 articles were excluded, of these 47 potentially relevant records were submitted to full text review and of these 5 randomized clinical trials were included in this review. In view of the findings of this study, it can be concluded that physical therapy rehabilitation should continue after hospital discharge, with the aim of improving physical performance and activities of daily living (ADL) in post-COVID-19 patients.

Abstract
Background SARS-CoV-2 infection affects multiple systems, including musculoskeletal, neurological, and respiratory systems. Changes associated with physical inactivity due to prolonged hospitalization can affect the functional capacity of individuals with long coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) or post-COVID-19 condition and may cause changes in some postural control functions, such as verticality. Objectives This study aimed to evaluate the perception of verticality in individuals with long COVID. Design Cross-sectional study. Methods This study included 60 participants with post-COVID-19 condition divided into 2 groups: hospitalized group (n = 24), those hospitalized owing to SARS-CoV-2 infection; and non-hospitalized group (n = 36), those infected with SARS-CoV-2 but not hospitalized. All participants were examined using a post-COVID-19 functional status (PCFS), sit-to-stand test, grip strength assessment, painful and tactile sensory assessments, visual acuity assessment, and vestibular assessment. Verticality perception was evaluated using the subjective visual vertical (SVV) and subjective haptic vertical (SHV) tests. In both tests, the absolute values (positive values only) and true values (positive and negative values) were considered. To verify potential confounders that could influence the verticality of the results, logistic regression models were used for categorical variables and multiple linear regressions were used for continuous variables. For analysis between groups, the independent samples test (Mann-Whitney U test) was used. Results There were no confounders between clinical variables and verticality in either group. There was a significant increase in absolute SVV (mean deviation [MD]: 2.83; P < .0001) and true SVV (MD: -4.18; P = .005) in the hospitalized group compared to the non-hospitalized group. Furthermore, there was a significant increase in the true SHV (MD: -3.6; P = .026) in the hospitalized group compared to that in the non-hospitalized group. Conclusion Less accurate visual and haptic verticality perception task performance was observed in hospitalized patients with post-COVID-19 condition.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19), resulting from infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, causes not only flu-like symptoms, such as fever, aches, or a dry cough, but also affects the sensory system, leading to a loss of smell and taste or to neurological deficits in the shape of balance disorders and dizziness. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Our research aimed to assess the prevalence of balance disorders in patients who had suffered COVID-19. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study group consisted of 73 subjects with a history of SARS-CoV-2 infection. The control group consisted of 50 healthy people with similar demographics. A balance analysis was performed on a tensometric platform, using the Romberg test. RESULTS Statistically significant differences between the results of the study group and the control group were obtained in the evaluation of the length of body sways and the area of gravity center, both with open and closed eyes, and in the case of maximum body sways with open eyes. CONCLUSIONS Patients who have suffered COVID-19 may suffer from balance disorders detectable by posturographic tests.

Abstract
The COVID-19 sequelae have been shown to affect respiratory and cardiological functions as well as neuro-psychological functions, and, in some cases, metabolic/nutritional aspects. The Italian National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (Istituto Nazionale Assicurazione Infortuni sul Lavoro, INAIL) recorded that, until December 2022, 315,055 workers were affected by COVID-19; therefore, there is a need to identify an effective approach to treat such patients. Robotic and technological devices could be integrated into the rehabilitation programme of people with long COVID conditions. A review of the literature showed that telerehabilitation may improve functional capacity, dyspnoea, performance, and quality of life in these patients, but no studies were found evaluating the effects of robot-mediated therapy or virtual reality systems. Considering the above, Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi and INAIL propose a multi-axial rehabilitation for workers with COVID-19 sequelae. To accomplish this goal, the two institutions merged the epidemiological information gathered by INAIL, the expertise in robotic and technological rehabilitation of Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi, and the literature review. Our proposal aims to facilitate a multi-axial rehabilitation approach customized to meet the unique needs of each individual, with a particular emphasis on utilizing advanced technologies to address the current and future challenges of patient care.

Physical functioning and health-related quality of life after COVID-19: a long-term perspective case series. Int J Rehabil Res 2023; 46:77-85. Abstract
The purpose of our study was to monitor the long-term changes in physical functioning and health-related quality of life in individuals who received outpatient rehabilitation after COVID-19. Individuals referred to outpatient rehabilitation for post-COVID-19 physical therapy were assessed before the treatment, at the end of the treatment, and 2 and 6 months after the end of the treatment. The physical functioning was assessed by Barthel Index, Timed Up and Go test, Short Physical Performance Battery test (SPPB), Patient-Specific Functioning Scale (PSFS), and EuroQOL 5D-3L. Friedman's test was utilized to assess changes in the assessments. The proportions of individuals showing variation in performance equal to or greater than the absolute minimal detectable change (MDC) value of the SPPB and PSFS were calculated. Forty-four cases were monitored for 7.3-15.6 months. At baseline, they showed substantial independence in activities of daily living, moderate mobility limitations, and below-average health-related quality of life. Their status significantly improved over time (Friedman's test P = 0.002 to <0.001); post hoc analysis confirmed the improvement of mobility and health-related quality of life at 6-month follow-up relative to the baseline. After accounting for MDC values, 55% meaningfully improved on SPPB and 45% on PSFS, although some worsened (11 and 5%, respectively) and the remaining showed no meaningful change. Despite good independence in activities of daily living and perceived health, individuals surviving the COVID-19 may not have fully recovered their premorbid functioning status seven to 15 months after the infection.

Abstract
Recent studies suggest that also the non-critical form of COVID-19 infection may be associated with executive function impairments. However, it is not clear if they result from cognitive impairments or by COVID-19 infection per se. We aimed to investigate if patients in the post-acute stage of severe COVID-19 (PwCOVID), without manifest cognitive deficits, reveal impairments in performing dual-task (DT) activities compared to healthy controls (HS). We assessed balance in 31 PwCOVID vs. 30 age-matched HS by stabilometry and the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test with/without a cognitive DT. The DT cost (DTC), TUG test time and sway oscillations were recorded; correct cognitive responses (CCR) were calculated to evaluate cognitive performance. Results show a significant difference in overall DT performance between PwCOVID and HS in both stabilometry (p < 0.01) and the TUG test (p < 0.0005), although with similar DTCs. The main difference in the DTs between groups emerged in the CCR (effect size > 0.8). Substantially, PwCOVID gave priority to the motor task, leaving out the cognitive one, while HS performed both tasks simultaneously. Our findings suggest that PwCOVID, even without a manifest cognitive impairment, may present a deficit in executive function during DTs. These results encourage the use of DTs and CCR in PwCOVID.

Abstract
Background and Objectives The neuromuscular system is responsible for performing adequate muscle activities to maintain postural balance. Since COVID‐19 can cause damage to this system, long‐term sequelae might alter control of postural stability. This study aimed to evaluate the postural balance of patients with post‐acute COVID‐19 syndrome (PCS) who were not hospitalized and to evaluate the correlations of changes in postural balance with general fatigue, muscle strength, and quality of life (QoL). Methods This was a cross‐sectional study in which 40 patients with PCS and 40 controls underwent balance assessment through the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and Tinetti Balance Scale (TBS). They were evaluated for general fatigue by the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy‐Fatigue (FACIT‐F) scale, handgrip strength (HGS), and quality of life (QoL) by the Short Form‐36 (SF‐36). Results When compared to controls, patients with PCS had lower BBS and TBS scores (p = 0.001 for both). The FACIT‐F score was lower in PCS patients (p = 0.0001). HGS was slightly lower in the PCS patients, but not statistically significant (p = 0.09). Regarding QoL, PCS patients showed worse evaluations in five dimensions of the SF‐36 (physical functioning, physical role limitations, bodily pain, general health perceptions, and mental health). Both the BBS and TBS scores had statistically significant positive correlations with the FACIT‐F score, HGS, and two SF‐36 dimensions (physical role limitations and emotional role limitations). Conclusions Patients with PCS show worse postural balance than controls, which is associated with general fatigue, lower HGS, and poor QoL. Postural balance assessment should be considered in the follow‐up and rehabilitation of PCS.
