Abstract
Various crossover phenomena are immanent to supercritical fluids due to multidirectional temperature effects in highly compressible supercritical fluid media. Solubility crossover, i.e. controversial effect of temperature on solubility at different pressures, is probably the most well-known among them. A curious discrepancy in upper crossover pressure values between solubility in supercritical carbon dioxide and retention in supercritical fluid chromatography with pure CO2 as an eluent was unexpectedly observed for several non-polar compounds on different stationary phases. In some cases, retention crossover was found to happen at pressures almost twice as high as pressures for solubility crossover for the same compound. Retention data for three solutes with known solubility crossovers: anthracene, benzoic acid and vanillin, were collected at different pressures and temperatures for several stationary phases. The existence of upper retention crossovers, i.e. such pressure values beyond which temperature increase starts decreasing retention, were registered for all solute-sorbent combinations. Using known thermodynamic models of temperature effect on retention in supercritical fluid chromatography and on solubility in supercritical carbon dioxide, possible reasoning for the observed discrepancies is discussed. Major contribution of the balance between adsorption and partition retention mechanisms in defining retention crossover values is hypothesized.

Abstract
The entropy of strongly coupled Yukawa fluids is discussed from several perspectives. First, it is demonstrated that a vibrational paradigm of atomic dynamics in dense fluids can be used to obtain a simple and accurate estimate of the entropy without any adjustable parameters. Second, it is explained why a quasiuniversal value of the excess entropy of simple fluids at the freezing point should be expected, and it is demonstrated that a remaining very weak dependence of the freezing point entropy on the screening parameter in the Yukawa fluid can be described by a simple linear function. Third, a scaling of the excess entropy with the freezing temperature is examined, a modified form of the Rosenfeld-Tarazona scaling is put forward, and some consequences are briefly discussed. Fourth, the location of the Frenkel line on the phase diagram of Yukawa systems is discussed in terms of the excess entropy and compared with some predictions made in the literature. Fifth, the excess entropy scaling of the transport coefficients (self-diffusion, viscosity, and thermal conductivity) is reexamined using the contemporary datasets for the transport properties of Yukawa fluids. The results could be of particular interest in the context of complex (dusty) plasmas, colloidal suspensions, electrolytes, and other related systems with soft pairwise interactions.

Abstract
Molecular dynamics simulations have been employed to explore the hydrogen-bonding structure and dynamics in supercritical octanol-1 at a near-critical temperature and up to high densities and pressures. A substantial breakdown of the hydrogen-bonding network when going from ambient-liquid to supercritical conditions is revealed. The fraction of the non-hydrogen bonded molecules significantly increases in supercritical octanol-1, and a substantial decrease in the intermittent hydrogen-bond lifetime is observed. This behavior is also reflected on the maximum local density augmentation, which is comparable to the values obtained for non-polar and non-hydrogen bonded fluids. The existence of a structural transition from an inhomogeneous fluid phase to a soft-liquid one at densities higher than 2.0 ρc is also revealed. At higher densities, a significant change in the reorientational relaxation process is observed, reflected on the significant increase in the ratio of the Legendre reorientational times τ1R/τ2R. The latter becomes much higher than the value predicted by the Debye model of diffusive reorientation and the corresponding ratio for ambient liquid octanol-1. The non-polar tail of octanol-1 under supercritical conditions reorients more slowly in comparison with the polar tail. Interestingly, the opposite behavior is observed for the ambient liquid, further verifying the strong effect of the breakdown of the hydrogen bonding network on the properties of supercritical octanol-1. In accordance with the above-mentioned findings, the static dielectric constant of supercritical octanol-1 is very low even at high densities and pressures, comparable to the values obtained for non-polar and non-hydrogen bonded fluids.

Abstract
According to textbooks, no physical observable can be discerned allowing to distinguish a liquid from a gas beyond the critical point. Yet, several proposals have been put forward challenging this view and various transition boundaries between a gas-like and a liquid-like behaviour, including the so-called Widom and Frenkel lines, and percolation line, have been suggested to delineate the supercritical state space. Here we report observation of a crossover from gas-like (Gaussian) to liquid-like (Lorentzian) self-dynamic structure factor by incoherent quasi-elastic neutron scattering measurements on supercritical fluid methane as a function of pressure, along the 200 K isotherm. The molecular self-diffusion coefficient was derived from the best Gaussian (at low pressures) or Lorentzian (at high pressures) fits to the neutron spectra. The Gaussian-to-Lorentzian crossover is progressive and takes place at about the Widom line intercept (59 bar). At considerably higher pressures, a liquid-like jump diffusion mechanism properly describes the supercritical fluid on both sides of the Frenkel line. The present observation of a gas-like to liquid-like crossover in the self dynamics of a simple supercritical fluid confirms emerging views on the unexpectedly complex physics of the supercritical state, and could have planet-wide implications and possible industrial applications in green chemistry.

Abstract
It is now 100 years since Lennard-Jones published his first paper introducing the now famous potential that bears his name. It is therefore timely to reflect on the many achievements, as well as the limitations, of this potential in the theory of atomic and molecular interactions, where applications range from descriptions of intermolecular forces to molecules, clusters, and condensed matter.

Abstract
Can liquid-like and gas-like states be distinguished beyond the critical point, where the liquid-gas phase transition no longer exists and conventionally only a single supercritical fluid phase is defined? Recent experiments and simulations report strong evidence of dynamical crossovers above the critical temperature and pressure. Despite using different criteria, many existing theoretical explanations consider a single crossover line separating liquid-like and gas-like states in the supercritical fluid phase. We argue that such a single-line scenario is inconsistent with the supercritical behavior of the Ising model, which has two crossover lines due to its symmetry, violating the universality principle of critical phenomena. To reconcile the inconsistency, we define two thermodynamic crossover lines in supercritical fluids as boundaries of liquid-like, indistinguishable, and gas-like states. Near the critical point, the two crossover lines follow critical scalings with exponents of the Ising universality class, supported by calculations of theoretical models and analyses of experimental data from the standard database. The upper line agrees with crossovers independently estimated from the inelastic X-ray scattering data of supercritical argon, and from the small-angle neutron scattering data of supercritical carbon dioxide. The lower line is verified by the equation of states for the compressibility factor. This work provides a fundamental framework for understanding supercritical physics in general phase transitions.

Abstract
It is shown that the transport coefficients (self-diffusion, shear viscosity, and thermal conductivity) of the Weeks-Chandler-Andersen (WCA) fluid along isotherms exhibit a freezing density scaling (FDS). The functional form of this FDS is essentially the same or closely related to those in the Lennard-Jones fluid, hard-sphere fluid, and some liquefied noble gases. This proves that this FDS represents a quasi-universal corresponding state principle for simple classical fluids with steep interactions. Some related aspects, such as a Stokes-Einstein relation without a hydrodynamic diameter and gas-to-liquid dynamical crossover, are briefly discussed. Simple fitting formulas for the transport coefficients of the dense WCA fluid are suggested.

Abstract
Molecular dynamical simulations are performed to investigate the scaling of the transverse sound speed in two-dimensional (2D) and 3D Yukawa fluids. From the calculated diagnostics of the radial distribution function, the mean-squared displacement, and the Pearson correlation coefficient, the approximate isomorphic curves for 2D and 3D liquidlike Yukawa systems are obtained. It is found that the structure and dynamics of 2D and 3D liquidlike Yukawa systems exhibit the isomorphic property under the conditions of the same relative coupling parameter Γ/Γ_{m}=const. It is demonstrated that the reduced transverse sound speed, i.e., the ratio of the transverse sound speed to the thermal speed, is an isomorph invariant, which is a quasiuniversal function of Γ/Γ_{m}. The obtained isomorph invariant of the reduced transverse sound speed can be useful to estimate the transverse sound speed, or determine the coupling strength, with applications to dusty (complex) plasma or colloidal systems.

Abstract
In equilibrium and supercooled liquids, polymorphism is manifested by thermodynamic regions defined in the phase diagram, which are predominantly of different short- and medium-range order (local structure). It is found that on the phase diagram of the water model, the thermodynamic region corresponding to the equilibrium liquid phase is divided by a line of the smooth liquid-liquid crossover. In the case of the water model TIP4P/2005, this crossover is revealed by various local order parameters and corresponds to pressures on the order of 3150 ± 350 atm at ambient temperature. In the vicinity of the crossover, the dynamics of water molecules change significantly, which is reflected, in particular, in the fact that the self-diffusion coefficient reaches its maximum values. In addition, changes in the structure also manifest themselves in changes in the kinetics of hydrogen bonding, which are captured by values of such quantities as the average lifetime of hydrogen bonding, the average lifetimes of different local coordination numbers, and the frequencies of changes in different local coordination numbers. An interpretation of the hydrogen bond kinetics in terms of the free energy landscape concept in the space of possible coordination numbers is proposed.

Abstract
The supercritical region is often described as uniform with no definite transitions. The distinct behaviors of the matter therein, e.g., as liquidlike and gaslike, however, suggest "supercritical boundaries." Here we provide a mathematical description of these phenomena by revisiting the Yang-Lee theory and introducing a complex phase diagram, specifically a four-dimensional (4D) one with complex T and p. While the traditional 2D phase diagram with real temperature T and pressure p values (the physical plane) lacks Lee-Yang (LY) zeros beyond the critical point, preventing the occurrence of criticality, the off-plane zeros in this 4D scenario still induce critical anomalies in various physical properties. This relationship is evidenced by the correlation between the Widom line and LY edges in van der Waals, 2D Ising model, and water. The diverged supercritical boundaries manifest the high-dimensional feature of the phase diagram: e.g., when LY zeros of complex T or p are projected onto the physical plane, boundaries defined by isobaric heat capacity C_{p} or isothermal compression coefficient K_{T} emanates. These results demonstrate the incipient phase transition nature of the supercritical matter.

Abstract
In this paper, we present the theoretical formalism describing the collective ion dynamics of the nonideal Coulomb classical one-component plasmas on the basis of the self-consistent relaxation theory. The theory is adapted to account for correlations between the frequency relaxation parameters that characterize the three- and four-particle dynamics and the parameters associated with the two-particle dynamics. The dynamic structure factor spectra and dispersion characteristics calculated for a wide range of wave numbers are in agreement with the molecular dynamics simulation data and the results obtained with the theory of the frequency moments. The proposed formalism reproduces all the features inherent to the Coulomb one-component plasmas and requires only knowledge of the coupling parameter and the information about the structure.

Abstract
Supercritical fluids play a key role in environmental, geological, and celestial processes, and are of great importance to many scientific and engineering applications. They exhibit strong variations in thermodynamic response functions, which has been hypothesized to stem from the microstructural behavior. However, a direct connection between thermodynamic conditions and the microstructural behavior, as described by molecular clusters, remains an outstanding issue. By utilizing a first-principles-based criterion and self-similarity analysis, we identify energetically localized molecular clusters whose size distribution and connectivity exhibit self-similarity in the extended supercritical phase space. We show that the structural response of these clusters follows a complex network behavior whose dynamics arises from the energetics of isotropic molecular interactions. Furthermore, we demonstrate that a hidden variable network model can accurately describe the structural and dynamical response of supercritical fluids. These results highlight the need for constitutive models and provide a basis to relate the fluid microstructure to thermodynamic response functions.

Abstract
The Frenkel line has been proposed as a crossover in the fluid region of phase diagrams between a "nonrigid" and a "rigid" fluid. It is generally described as a crossover in the dynamical properties of a material and as such has been described theoretically using a very different set of markers from those with which is it investigated experimentally. In this study, we have performed extensive calculations using two simple yet fundamentally different model systems: hard spheres and square-well potentials. The former has only hardcore repulsion, while the latter also includes a simple model of attraction. We computed and analyzed a series of physical properties used previously in simulations and experimental measurements and discuss critically their correlations and validity as to being able to uniquely and coherently locate the Frenkel line in discontinuous potentials.

Abstract
The glass transition is described as a phase transition in the system of topologically protected excitations in matter structure. The critical behavior of the system is considered in both static and dynamic cases. It is shown that the proposed model reproduces most of the characteristic thermodynamic and kinetic properties of glass transition: the Vogel-Fulcher-Tammann law, the behavior of susceptibility and nonlinear susceptibilities, and heat capacity behavior as well as the appearance of a boson peak in the frequency dependence of the dynamic structure factor near the glass transition temperature.

Abstract
We have performed a series of neutron scattering experiments on supercritical krypton. Our data and analysis allow us to characterize the Frenkel line crossover in this model monatomic fluid. The data from our measurements was analyzed using Empirical Potential Structure Refinement to determine the short- and medium-range structure of the fluids. We find evidence for several shells of neighbors which form approximately concentric rings of density about each atom. The ratio of second to first shell radius is significantly larger than in any crystal structure. Modeling krypton using a Lennard-Jones potential is shown to give significant errors, notably that the liquid is overstructured. The true potential appears to be longer ranged and with a softer core than the 6-12 powerlaws permit.

Abstract
Using molecular dynamics simulations in combination with the two-phase thermodynamic model, we reveal novel characteristic fingerprints of the crossing of the Frenkel and melting line on the properties of high-pressure water at a near-critical temperature (1.03Tc). The crossing of the Frenkel line at about 1.17 GPa is characterized by a crossover in the rotational and translational entropy ratio Srot/Strans, indicating a change in the coupling between translational and rotational motions which is also reflected in the shape of the rotational density of states. The observed isosbestic points in the translational and rotational density of states are also blue-shifted at density and pressure conditions higher than the ones corresponding to the Frenkel line. The first-order phase transition from a rigid liquid to a face-centered cubic plastic crystal phase at about 8.5 GPa is reflected in the discontinuous changes in the translational and rotational entropy, particularly in the significant increase of the ratio Srot/Strans. A noticeable discontinuous increase of the dielectric constant has also been revealed when crossing this melting line, which is attributed to the different arrangement of the water molecules in the plastic crystal phase. The reorientational dynamics in the plastic crystal phase is faster in comparison with the "rigid" liquid-like phase, but it remains unchanged upon a further pressure increase in the range of 8.5-11 GPa.

Abstract
Among the three basic states of matter (solid, liquid, and gas), the liquid state has always eluded general theoretical approaches for describing liquid energy and heat capacity. In this Viewpoint, we derive the phonon theory of liquids and biological fluids stemming from Frenkel's microscopic picture of the liquid state. Specifically, the theory predicts the existence of phonon gaps in vibrational spectra of liquids and a thermodynamic boundary in the supercritical state. Direct experimental evidence reaffirming these theoretical predictions was achieved through a combination of techniques using static compression X-ray diffraction and inelastic X-ray scattering on deeply supercritical argon in a diamond anvil cell. Furthermore, these findings inspired and then led to the discovery of phonon gaps in liquid crystals (mesogens), block copolymers, and biological membranes. Importantly, phonon gaps define viscoelastic crossovers in cellular membranes responsible for lipid self-diffusion, lateral molecular-level stress propagation, and passive transmembrane transport of small molecules and solutes. Finally, molecular interactions mediated by external stimuli result in synaptic activity controlling biological membranes' plasticity resulting in learning and memory. Therefore, we also discuss learning and memory effects─equally important for neuroscience as well as for the development of neuromorphic devices─facilitated in biological membranes by external stimuli.

Abstract
A freezing density scaling of transport properties of the Lennard-Jones fluid is rationalized in terms of the Rosenfeld's excess entropy scaling and isomorph theory of Roskilde-simple systems. Then, it is demonstrated that the freezing density scaling operates reasonably well for viscosity and thermal conductivity coefficients of liquid argon, krypton, and xenon. Quasi-universality of the reduced transport coefficients at their minima and at freezing conditions is discussed. The magnitude of the thermal conductivity coefficient at the freezing point is shown to agree remarkably well with the prediction of the vibrational model of thermal transport in dense fluids.

Abstract
It is demonstrated that the crossover between gas- and liquid-like regions on the phase diagram of the Lennard-Jones system occurs at a fixed value of the density divided by its value at the freezing point, ρ/ ρfr ≃ 0.35. This definition is consistent with other definitions proposed recently. As a result, a very simple practical expression for the gas-to-liquid crossover line emerges.

Abstract

Despite the technological importance of supercritical fluids, controversy remains
about the details of their microscopic dynamics. In this work, we
study four supercritical fluid systems—water, Si, Te, and Lennard-Jones
fluid—via classical molecular dynamics simulations. A universal
two-component behavior is observed in the intermolecular dynamics
of these systems, and the changing ratio between the two components
leads to a crossover from liquidlike to gaslike dynamics, most rapidly
around the Widom line. We find evidence to connect the liquidlike
component dominating at lower temperatures with intermolecular bonding
and the component prominent at higher temperatures with free-particle,
gaslike dynamics. The ratio between the components can be used to
describe important properties of the fluid, such as its self-diffusion
coefficient, in the transition region. Our results provide an insight
into the fundamental mechanism controlling the dynamics of supercritical
fluids and highlight the role of spatiotemporally inhomogeneous dynamics
even in thermodynamic states where no large-scale fluctuations exist
in the fluid.

Abstract
It is demonstrated that self-diffusion in dense liquids can be considered a random walk process; its characteristic length and time scales are identified. This represents an alternative to the often assumed hopping mechanism of diffusion in the liquid state. The approach is illustrated using the one-component plasma model.

Abstract
Recent studies on supercritical nitrogen revealed clear changes in structural markers and dynamical properties when the coordination number approaches its maximum value. The line in P and T space where these changes occur is referred to as the Frenkel line. Here, we qualitatively reproduce such changes in the supercritical regime using the popular "optimized potential for liquid simulation" (OPLS) classical force field for molecular dynamics. Unfortunately, at 160 K, OPLS nitrogen predicts sublimation rather than producing a liquid phase; therefore, we developed our own force field to achieve quantitative agreement with experimental data. We confirm the asymptotic behavior of the coordination number on crossing the Frenkel line and note an associated change in the diffusion constant, consistent with the non-rigid to rigid liquid-like character of the "transition". The simulations allow us to track the Frenkel line to subcritical temperatures and demonstrate that it terminates at the triple point. This establishes the experimentally measurable changes, which could unequivocally determine the Frenkel line in other systems.

Abstract
The Stokes-Einstein (SE) relation between the self-diffusion and shear viscosity coefficients operates in sufficiently dense liquids not too far from the liquid-solid phase transition. By considering four simple model systems with very different pairwise interaction potentials (Lennard-Jones, Coulomb, Debye-Hückel or screened Coulomb, and the hard sphere limit) we identify where exactly on the respective phase diagrams the SE relation holds. It appears that the reduced excess entropy s_{ex} can be used as a suitable indicator of the validity of the SE relation. In all cases considered the onset of SE relation validity occurs at approximately s_{ex}≲-2. In addition, we demonstrate that the line separating gaslike and liquidlike fluid behaviours on the phase diagram is roughly characterized by s_{ex}≃-1.

Abstract
Among different thermodynamic properties of liquids, the entropy is one of the hardest quantities to estimate. Therefore, the development of models allowing accurate estimations of the entropy for different mechanisms of interatomic interactions represents an important problem. Here, we propose a method for estimating the excess entropy of simple liquids not too far from the liquid-solid phase transition. The method represents a variant of cell theory, which particularly emphasizes relations between liquid state thermodynamics and collective modes properties. The method is applied to calculate the excess entropy of inverse-power-law fluids with ∝r-n repulsive interactions. The covered range of potential softness is extremely wide, including the very soft Coulomb (n = 1) case, much steeper n = 6 and n = 12 cases, and the opposite hard-sphere interaction limit (n = ∞). An overall reasonably good agreement between the method's outcome and existing "exact" results is documented at sufficiently high fluid densities. Its applicability condition can be conveniently formulated in terms of the excess entropy itself. The method is also applied to the Lennard-Jones potential but demonstrates considerably lower accuracy in this case. Our results should be relevant to a broad range of liquid systems that can be described with isotropic repulsive interactions, including liquid metals, macromolecular systems, globular proteins, and colloidal suspensions.

Abstract
The present study reports a systematic analysis of a wide variety of structural, thermodynamic, and dynamic properties of supercritical water along the near-critical isotherm of T = 1.03Tc and up to extreme pressures, using molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations. The methodology employed provides solid evidence about the existence of a structural transition from a liquidlike fluid to a compressed, tightly packed liquid, in the density and pressure region around 3.4ρc and 1.17 GPa, introducing an alternative approach to locate the crossing of the Frenkel line. Around 8.5 GPa another transition to a face-centered-cubic plastic crystal polymorph with density 5.178ρc is also observed, further confirmed by Gibbs free energy calculations using the two-phase thermodynamic model. The isobaric heat capacity maximum, closely related to the crossing of the Widom line, has also been observed around 0.8ρc, where the local density augmentation is also maximized. Another structural transition has been observed at 0.2ρc, related to the transformation of the fluid to a dilute gas at lower densities. These findings indicate that a near-critical isotherm can be divided into different domains where supercritical water exhibits distinct behavior, ranging from a gaslike one to a plastic crystal one.

Abstract
Using molecular dynamics, we demonstrated that in the mixture of carbon dioxide and ethanol (25% molar fraction) there are three pronounced regions on the p-T diagram characterized by not only high-density fluctuations but also anomalous behavior of thermodynamic parameters. The regions are interpreted as Widom deltas. The regions were identified as a result of analyzing the dependences of density, density fluctuations, isobaric thermal conductivity, and clustering of a mixture of carbon dioxide and ethanol in a wide range of pressures and temperatures. Two of the regions correspond to the Widom delta for pure supercritical carbon dioxide and ethanol, while the third region is in the immediate vicinity of the critical point of the binary mixture. The origin of these Widom deltas is a result of the large mixed linear clusters formation.

Abstract
We have performed a neutron scattering experiment on supercritical fluid nitrogen at 160 K (1.27 TC) over a wide pressure range (7.8 MPa/0.260 g/mL-125 MPa/0.805 g/mL). This has enabled us to study the process by which nitrogen changes from a fluid that exhibits gaslike behavior to one that exhibits rigid liquidlike behavior at a temperature close to, but above, the critical temperature by crossing the Widom lines followed by the Frenkel line on pressure (density) increase. We find that the Frenkel line transition is indicated by a transition to a regime of rigid liquidlike behavior in which the coordination number remains constant within error, in agreement with our previous work at 300 K. The Frenkel line transition takes place at approximately the same density at 160 and 300 K. The data do not conclusively show an additional transition at the location of the known Widom lines. We find that behavior remains gaslike until the Frenkel line is crossed and our data support the hypothesis that Widom line transitions are density increase-driven.

Abstract
We propose a simple and generic definition of a demarcation reconciling structural and dynamic frameworks when combined with the entropy scaling framework. This crossover line between gas- and liquid-like behaviors is defined as the curve for which an individual property, the contribution to viscosity due to molecules' translation, is exactly equal to a collective property, the contribution to viscosity due to molecular interactions. Such a definition is shown to be consistent with the one based on the minima of the kinematic viscosity. For the hard sphere, this is shown to be an exact solution. For Lennard-Jones spheres and dimers and for some simple real fluids, this relation holds very well. This crossover line passes nearby the critical point, and for all studied fluids, it is well captured by the critical excess entropy curve for atomic fluids, emphasizing the link between transport properties and local structure.

Abstract
It is demonstrated that properly reduced transport coefficients (self-diffusion, shear viscosity, and thermal conductivity) of Lennard-Jones fluids along isotherms exhibit quasi-universal scaling on the density divided by its value at the freezing point. Moreover, this scaling is closely related to the density scaling of transport coefficients of hard-sphere fluids. The Stokes-Einstein relation without the hydrodynamic diameter is valid in the dense fluid regime. The lower density boundary of its validity can serve as a practical demarcation line between gaslike and liquidlike regimes.

Abstract
This paper presents an application of mean force kinetic theory (MFT) to the calculation of the self-diffusivity of CO2 in the supercritical fluid regime. Two modifications to the typical application of MFT are employed to allow its application to a system of molecular species. The first is the assumption that the inter-particle potential of mean force can be obtained from the molecule center-of-mass pair correlation function, which in the case of CO2 is the C-C pair correlation function. The second is a new definition of the Enskog factor that describes the effect of correlations at the surface of the collision volume. The new definition retains the physical picture that this quantity represents a local density increase, resulting from particle correlations, relative to that in the zero density homogeneous fluid limit. These calculations are facilitated by the calculation of pair correlation functions from molecular dynamics (MD) simulations using the FEPM2 molecular CO2 model. The self-diffusivity calculated from theory is in good agreement with that from MD simulations up to and slightly beyond the density at the location of the Frenkel line. The calculation is compared with and is found to perform similarly well to other commonly used models but has a greater potential for application to systems of mixed species and to systems of particles with long range interatomic potentials due to electrostatic interactions.

Abstract
The effect of traces of ethanol in supercritical carbon dioxide on the mixture's thermodynamic properties is studied by molecular simulations and Taylor dispersion measurements. This mixture is investigated along the isobar p = 10 MPa in the temperature range between T = 304 and 343 K. Along this path, the mixture undergoes two transitions: First, the Widom line is crossed, marking the transition from liquid-like to gas-like conditions. A second transition occurs from the supercritical gas-like domain to a subcritical gas. The Widom line crossover entails inflection points for most of the studied properties, i.e. density, enthalpy, shear viscosity, Maxwell-Stefan and intradiffusion coefficients. On the other hand, the transition between the super- and subcritical regions is found to be generally smooth, an observation that is qualitatively confirmed by experimental Taylor dispersion measurements. Dedicated atomistic simulations show the presence of microheterogeneities due to ethanol self-association along the investigated path, which lead to the mixture's anomalous behavior in its extended critical region.

Abstract
We calculate the maximal Lyapunov exponent for a bulk system of 256 Lennard-Jones particles in constant energy molecular dynamics simulations deep into the supercritical state. We find that the maximal Lyapunov exponent undergoes a crossover and that this crossover coincides with the dynamical crossover at the Frenkel line from liquid physics. We explain this crossover in terms of two different contributions to dynamical instability: diffusion in the liquidlike state below the Frenkel line and collisions in the gaslike state above. These results provide insight into the phase-space dynamics far from the melting line and densities where rare-gas approximation are inapplicable.

Abstract
In this paper we compare different theoretical approaches to describe the dispersion of collective modes in Yukawa fluids when the interparticle coupling is relatively weak, so that the kinetic and potential contributions to the dispersion relation compete with each other. A thorough comparison with the results from molecular dynamics simulation allows us to conclude that, in the investigated regime, the best description is provided by the sum of the generalized excess bulk modulus and the Bohm-Gross kinetic term.

Abstract
Investigation of the longitudinal and transverse excitations in liquids is of great importance for understanding the fundamentals of the liquid state of matter. One of the important questions is the temperature and density dependence of the frequency of the excitations. In our recent works it was shown that while in simple liquids the frequency of longitudinal excitations increases when the temperature is increased isochorically, in water the frequency can anomalously decrease with the temperature increase. In the present manuscript we study the dispersion curves of longitudinal and transverse excitations of water and liquid silicon modelled by Stillinger-Weber (SW) potential. We show that both in liquid silicon and SW model of water the frequencies of longitudinal excitations slightly increase with temperature which is in contrast to the results for SPC/E model of water.

Abstract
In this work, we propose a generic and simple definition of a line separating gas-like and liquid-like fluid behaviors from the standpoint of shear viscosity. This definition is valid even for fluids such as the hard sphere and the inverse power law that exhibit a unique fluid phase. We argue that this line is defined by the location of the minimum of the macroscopically scaled viscosity when plotted as a function of the excess entropy, which differs from the popular Widom lines. For hard sphere, Lennard-Jones, and inverse-power-law fluids, such a line is located at an excess entropy approximately equal to -2/3 times Boltzmann's constant and corresponds to points in the thermodynamic phase diagram for which the kinetic contribution to viscosity is approximately half of the total viscosity. For flexible Lennard-Jones chains, the excess entropy at the minimum is a linear function of the chain length. This definition opens a straightforward route to classify the dynamical behavior of fluids from a single thermodynamic quantity obtainable from high-accuracy thermodynamic models.

Abstract
The physics of supercritical states is understood to a much lesser degree compared to subcritical liquids. Carbon dioxide, in particular, has been intensely studied, yet little is known about the supercritical part of its phase diagram. Here, we combine neutron scattering experiments and molecular dynamics simulations and demonstrate the structural crossover at the Frenkel line. The crossover is seen at pressures as high as 14 times the critical pressure and is evidenced by changes of the main features of the structure factor and pair distribution functions.

Abstract
We examine the influence of steady shear on structural relaxation in a simulated coarse-grained unentangled polymer melt over a wide range of temperature and shear rates. Shear is found to progressively suppress the α-relaxation process observed in the intermediate scattering function, leading ultimately to a purely inertially dominated β-relaxation at high shear rates, a trend similar to increasing temperature. On the basis of a scaling argument emphasizing dynamic heterogeneity in cooled liquids and its alteration under material deformation, we deduce and validate a parameter-free scaling relation for both the structural relaxation time τα from the intermediate scattering function and the "stretching exponent" β quantifying the extent of dynamic heterogeneity over the entire range of temperatures and shear rates that we can simulate.

Abstract
High-pressure glass has attracted interest in terms of both its fundamental state under extreme conditions and its possible applications as an advanced material. In this context, natural impact glasses are of considerable interest because they are formed under ultrahigh-pressure and high-temperature (UHPHT) conditions in larger volumes than laboratory fabrication can produce. Studying the UHPHT glasses of the unique giant Kara astrobleme (Russia), we found that the specific geological position of the UHPHT melt glass veins points to an origin from a secondary ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) melt according to the characteristics of the host suevites, which suggest later bottom flow. Here, we propose a fundamentally novel model involving an upward-injected UHP melt complex with complicated multi-level and multi-process differentiation based on observations of the UHP silica glass, single-crystal coesite and related UHP smectite that crystallized from an impact-generated hydrous melt. This model proposes a secondary UHP crisis during the modification stage of the Kara crater formation. The results are very important for addressing fundamental problems in fields as diverse as condensed matter states under extreme pressure and temperature (PT) conditions, material and geological reconstructions of impact structures, water conditions in mineral substances under UHP conditions in the deep Earth, and the duration and magnitude of the catastrophic effects of large asteroid impacts.

Abstract
We have studied in detail the transition from gas-like to rigid liquid-like behavior in supercritical N2 at 300 K (2.4 TC). Our study combines neutron diffraction and Raman spectroscopy with ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. We observe a narrow transition from gas-like to rigid liquid-like behavior at ca. 150 MPa, which we associate with the Frenkel line. Our findings allow us to reliably characterize the Frenkel line using both diffraction and spectroscopy methods, backed up by simulation, for the same substance. We clearly lay out what parameters change, and what parameters do not change, when the Frenkel line is crossed.
