Photoperiod alters the choroid plexus response to LPS-induced acute inflammation in EWES. ANNALS OF ANIMAL SCIENCE 2021. Abstract
This study determined the influence of photoperiod on the expression of toll-like receptor 2 and 4 (TLR2 and TLR4), interleukin 1□ (IL1B), IL-1 receptor type I (IL1R1) and II (IL1R2), interleukin 6 (IL6), the IL-6 receptor (IL6R) and signal transducer (IL6ST), tumor necrosis factor α (TNF), and TNF□ receptor type I (TNFRSF1A) and II (TNFRSF1B) in the choroid plexus (ChP) of ewes with lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute inflammation. Under short-days (SD, n = 12, anestrous) and long-days (LD, n = 12, synchronized follicular phase), ewes were treated with saline or LPS. Compared to LD conditions, the ewes under SD were characterized by a greater (P<0.05) area under the curve (AUC) of cortisol in the LPS-treated group and by a lower (P<0.05) AUC of prolactin in the saline-treated group. Under both photoperiods, LPS increased (P<0.05) the expression of all examined genes except for TNFRSF1B (only under SD), TNF and TNFRSF1A (no stimulation), and IL6R (decreased (P<0.05) under SD). The LPS-induced increases in TLR2, TLR4, IL1B and its receptors, IL6 and TNFRSF1B were higher (P<0.05) under SD than LD. TLR4 was positively correlated with IL1B and IL6 in both saline- (r2 = 0.64, P<0.01 and r2 = 0.52, P<0.01) and LPS-treated (r2 = 0.81, P<0.0001 and r2 = 0.51, P<0.001) ewes. IL1B (r2 = 0.56, P<0.01 and r2 = 0.77, P<0.0001) and IL6 (r2 = 0.77, P<0.005 and r2 = 0.35, P<0.05) were positively correlated with TLR2 in saline- and LPS-treated ewes, respectively. This indicates that in ewes, the ChP response to acute systemic inflammation is dependent upon the photoperiod with stronger effects being observed under SD. Our results also suggest that gonadal hormones altering TLR4 signaling events are involved in the photoperiodic modulation of the ChP response to LPS. Further experiments are required to explain the mechanism involved in this phenomenon.

Abstract
Cytokines are immune response components important in innate immunity and inflammatory response. They are harnessed as part of local immunological responses by animals to combat local infections and/or infestations. This study investigated expression of four selected cytokine genes, namely, interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), chemokine C-C ligand 2 (CCL2), chemokine C-C ligand 26 (CCL26) and interleukin 8 (IL-8), at tick attachment and control sites in a South African indigenous sheep breed the Namaqua Afrikaner (NA) and two commercial breeds, the Dorper and South African Mutton Merino (SAMM). The NA was previously shown to be more resistant to infestation by ticks than the two commercial breeds. NA ewes expressed IL-1β more at tick attachment sites compared to Dorpers. The NA breed was also more likely to upregulate the expression of the CCL2, CCL26 and IL-8 genes at tick attachment sites compared to control sites than the other breeds. The results of this study gave an indication that cytokines are involved in immune responses to tick challenge and laid a foundation for further studies under controlled challenge conditions.

Abstract
Simple Summary Pro-inflammatory cytokines are considered to be one of the most important mediators affecting the function of central nervous system during an immune/inflammatory challenge. It was found that in acting on different hypothalamic nuclei, pro-inflammatory cytokines influence the centrally regulated processes including reproduction. Recently, it has been shown that the endocannabinoid system and endogenous cannabinoids may attenuate the inflammatory response. Therefore, in our study we examined the influence of anandamide, one of the earliest known endocannabinoids, on the synthesis of interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-1 system gene expressions in the hypothalamic structures involved in gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)-ergic activity, and thus the central control of reproduction, during immune stress induced by endotoxin injection. It was found that anandamide inhibited lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated synthesis of IL-1β in the hypothalamus, likely affecting posttranscriptional levels of this cytokine synthesis. Anti-inflammatory effect of anandamide at the level of central nervous system might also result from its stimulating action on IL-1 antagonist and IL-1 type II receptor gene expression. This study suggests the potential of endocannabinoids and/or their metabolites in the inhibition of inflammatory process at the level of the central nervous system, as well as their usefulness in the therapy of inflammation-induced neuroendocrine disorders, but further detailed research is required to investigate this issue. Abstract This study evaluated the effect of anandamide (AEA) on interleukin (IL)-1β synthesis and gene expression of IL-1β, its type I (IL-1R1) and II (IL-1R2) receptors, and IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RN) in the hypothalamic structures, involved in the central control of reproduction, during inflammation. Animals were intravenously (i.v.) injected with bacterial endotoxin-lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (400 ng/kg) or saline, and two hours after LPS administration., a third group received i.v. injection of AEA (10 μg/kg). Ewes were euthanized one hour later. AEA injection (p < 0.05) suppressed LPS-induced expression of IL-1β protein in the hypothalamus. The gene expression of IL-1β, IL-1RN, and IL-1R2 in the hypothalamic structures was higher (p < 0.05) in animals treated with both LPS and AEA in comparison to other experimental groups. AEA administration did not influence LPS-stimulated IL-1R1 gene expression. Our study shows that AEA suppressed IL-1β synthesis in the hypothalamus, likely affecting posttranscriptional levels of this cytokine synthesis. However, anti-inflammatory effect of AEA might also result from its stimulating action on IL-1RN and IL-1R2 gene expression. These results indicate the potential of endocannabinoids and/or their metabolites in the inhibition of inflammatory process at the level of central nervous system, and therefore their usefulness in the therapy of inflammation-induced neuroendocrine disorders.

Abstract
The ovine choroid plexus (ChP) expresses the long isoform of the leptin receptor, which makes this structure a potential target for leptin action. In sheep, leptin concentration in plasma is higher during long days (LD) than short days (SD). This study evaluates the influence a of photoperiod on leptin impact on the gene expression of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), proinflammatory cytokines (IL1B, IL6), their receptors (IL1R1, IL1R2, ILRN, IL6R, IL6ST) and inflammasome components necessary for pro-IL-1β activation (NLRP3, PYCARD, CASP1), chemokine (CCL2), leptin receptor isoforms (LEPRa, LEPRb) and a suppressor of cytokine signalling (SOCS3) in the ChP of ewes treated or not with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Studies were conducted on adult female sheep divided into four groups (n = 6 in each): control, leptin (20 μg/kg), LPS (400 ng/kg), and LPS and leptin injected under SD and LD photoperiods. The leptin alone did not affect the gene expression but in co-treatment with LPS increased (p < 0.05) IL1B but only during SD, and SOCS3, IL1R2, IL1RN, IL6ST and CCL2 only during LD, and decreased (p < 0.05) the IL1R1 expression only during SD photoperiod. This indicates that the immunomodulatory action of leptin on the ChP is manifested only under the LPS challenge and is photoperiodically dependent.

Abstract
Leptin has a modulatory impact on the course of inflammation, affecting the expression of proinflammatory cytokines and their receptors. Pathophysiological leptin resistance identified in humans occurs typically in sheep during the long-day photoperiod. This study aimed to determine the effect of the photoperiod with relation to the leptin-modulating action on the expression of the proinflammatory cytokines and their receptors in the anterior pituitary under physiological or acute inflammation. Two in vivo experiments were conducted on 24 blackface sheep per experiment in different photoperiods. The real-time PCR analysis for the expression of the genes IL1B, IL1R1, IL1R2, IL6, IL6R, IL6ST, TNF, TNFR1, and TNFR2 was performed. Expression of all examined genes, except IL1β and IL1R2, was higher during short days. The leptin injection increased the expression of all examined genes during short days. In short days the synergistic effect of lipopolysaccharide and leptin increased the expression of IL1B, IL1R1, IL1R2, IL6, TNF, and TNFR2, and decreased expression of IL6ST. This mechanism was inhibited during long days for the expression of IL1R1, IL6, IL6ST, and TNFR1. The obtained results suggest the occurrence of leptin resistance during long days and suggest that leptin modulates the course of inflammation in a photoperiod-dependent manner in the anterior pituitary.

Abstract
Leptin resistance is either a condition induced by human obesity or a natural phenomenon associated with seasonality in ruminants. In the cardiovascular system, the leptin resistance state presence is a complex issue. Moreover, the perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) appears to be crucial as a source of proinflammatory cytokines and as a site of interaction for leptin contributing to endothelium dysfunction and atherosclerosis progression. So the aim of this study was to examine the influence of the photoperiod on the action of exogenous leptin on gene expression of selected proinflammatory cytokines and their receptors in thoracic PVAT of ewe with or without prior lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. The experiment was conducted on 48 adult, female ewes divided into 4 group (n = 6 in each): control, with LPS intravenous (iv.) injection (400 ng/kg of BW), with leptin iv. injection (20 μg/kg BW), and with LPS and 30-minute-later leptin injection, during short-day (SD) and long-day (LD) seasons. Three hours after LPS/control treatment, animals were euthanized to collect the PVAT adherent to the aorta wall. The leptin injection enhanced IL1B gene expression only in the LD season; however, in both seasons leptin injection intensified LPS-induced increase in IL1B gene expression. IL1R2 gene expression was increased by leptin injection only in the SD season. Neither IL6 nor its receptor and signal transducer gene expressions were influenced by leptin administration. Leptin injection increased TNFA gene expression regardless of photoperiodic conditions. Only in the SD season did leptin treatment increase the gene expression of both TNFα receptors. To conclude, leptin may modulate the inflammatory reaction progress in PVAT. In ewe, the sensitivity of PVAT on leptin action is dependent upon the photoperiodic condition with stronger effects stated in the SD season.

Abstract
Induced by a bacterial infection, an immune/inflammatory challenge is a potent negative regulator of the reproduction process in females. The reduction of the synthesis of pro-inflammatory cytokine is considered as an effective strategy in the treatment of inflammatory induced neuroendocrine disorders. Therefore, the effect of direct administration of acetylcholinesterase inhibitor—neostigmine—into the third ventricle of the brain on the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) secretions under basal and immune stress conditions was evaluated in this study. In the study, 24 adult, 2-years-old Blackhead ewes during the follicular phase of their estrous cycle were used. Immune stress was induced by the intravenous injection of LPS Escherichia coli in a dose of 400 ng/kg. Animals received an intracerebroventricular injection of neostigmine (1 mg/animal) 0.5 h before LPS/saline treatment. It was shown that central administration of neostigmine might prevent the inflammatory-dependent decrease of GnRH/LH secretion in ewes and it had a stimulatory effect on LH release. This central action of neostigmine is connected with its inhibitory action on local pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)α synthesis in the hypothalamus, which indicates the importance of this mediator in the inhibition of GnRH secretion during acute inflammation.

Abstract
The study was designed to examine whether the administration of neostigmine (0.5 mg/animal), a peripheral inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), during an immune/inflammatory challenge provoked by intravenous injection of bacterial endotoxin-lipopolysaccharide (LPS; 400 ng/kg)-attenuates the synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines in the ovine preoptic area (POA), the hypothalamic structure playing an essential role in the control of the reproduction process, and in the choroid plexus (CP), a multifunctional organ sited at the interface between the blood and cerebrospinal fluid in the ewe. Neostigmine suppressed (p < 0.05) LPS-stimulated synthesis of cytokines such as interleukin- (IL-) 1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) α in the POA, and this effect was similar to that induced by the treatment with systemic AChE inhibitor-donepezil (2.5 mg/animal). On the other hand, both AChE inhibitors did not influence the gene expression of these cytokines and their corresponding receptors in the CP. It was found that this structure seems to not express the neuronal acetylcholine (ACh) receptor subunit alpha-7, required for anti-inflammatory action of ACh. The mechanism of action involves inhibition of the proinflammatory cytokine synthesis on the periphery as well as inhibition of their de novo synthesis rather in brain microvessels and not in the CP. In conclusion, it is suggested that the AChE inhibitors incapable of reaching brain parenchyma might be used in the treatment of neuroinflammatory processes induced by peripheral inflammation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Immune stress induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) influences the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)/luteinizing hormone (LH) secretion. Presence of LPS interacting Toll-like receptor (TLR) 4 in the hypothalamus may enable the direct action of LPS on the GnRH/LH secretion. So, the aim of the study was to investigate the influence of intracerebroventricular (icv) injection of TLR4 antagonist on GnRH/LH secretion in anestrous ewes during LPS-induced central inflammation. Animals were divided into three groups icv-treated with: Ringer-Locke solution, LPS and TLR4 antagonist followed by LPS. RESULTS It was demonstrated that TLR4 antagonist reduced LPS-dependent suppression of GnRH gene expression in the preoptic area and in the medial basal hypothalamus, and suppression of receptor for GnRH gene expression in the anterior pituitary gland. It was also shown that TLR4 antagonist reduced suppression of LH release caused by icv injection of LPS. Central administration of LPS stimulated TLR4 gene expression in the medial basal hypothalamus. CONCLUSIONS It was indicated that blockade of TLR4 prevents the inhibitory effect of centrally acting LPS on the GnRH/LH secretion. This suggests that some negative effects of bacterial infection on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis activity at the hypothalamic level may be caused by central action of LPS acting through TLR4.

Abstract
Background Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) is important mediator of inflammatory-induced suppression of reproductive axis at the hypothalamic level. At the beginning of inflammation, the main source of cytokines in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is peripheral circulation, while over time, cytokines produced in the brain are more important. Melatonin has been shown to decrease pro-inflammatory cytokines concentration in the brain. In ewes, melatonin is used to advance the onset of a breading season. Little is known about CSF concentration of IL-1β in ewes and its correlation with plasma during inflammation as well as melatonin action on the concentration of IL-1β in blood plasma and the CSF, and brain barriers permeability in early stage of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation. Methods Systemic inflammation was induced through LPS administration in melatonin- and sham-implanted ewes. Blood and CSF samples were collected before and after LPS administration and IL-1β and albumin concentration were measured. To assess the functions of brain barriers albumin quotient (QAlb) was used. Expression of IL-1β (Il1B) and its receptor type I (Il1r1) and type II (Il1r2) and matrix metalloproteinase (Mmp) 3 and 9 was evaluated in the choroid plexus (CP). Results Before LPS administration, IL-1β was on the level of 62.0 ± 29.7 pg/mL and 66.4 ± 32.1 pg/mL in plasma and 26.2 ± 5.4 pg/mL and 21.3 ± 8.7 pg/mL in the CSF in sham- and melatonin-implanted group, respectively. Following LPS it increased to 159.3 ± 53.1 pg/mL and 197.8 ± 42.8 pg/mL in plasma and 129.8 ± 54.2 pg/mL and 139.6 ± 51.5 pg/mL in the CSF. No correlations was found between plasma and CSF IL-1β concentration after LPS in both groups. The QAlb calculated before LPS and 6 h after was similar in all groups. Melatonin did not affected mRNA expression of Il1B, Il1r1 and Il1r2 in the CP. The mRNA expression of Mmp3 and Mmp9 was not detected. Conclusions The lack of correlation between plasma and CSF IL-1β concentration indicates that at the beginning of inflammation the local synthesis of IL-1β in the CP is an important source of IL-1β in the CSF. Melatonin from slow-release implants does not affect IL-1β concentration in plasma and CSF in early stage of systemic inflammation.

Abstract
Ortho-substituted polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) preferentially accumulate in the brain and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) compared with other PCBs. We previously demonstrated in ewes that an identical dose of PCB153, the most environmentally prevalent congener, resulted in a higher plasma concentration during short days (SD: 1200pg/ml) than during long days (LD: 200pg/ml). Moreover, PCB153 treatment only reduced the SD tight junction protein content in the choroid plexus (CP), which was followed by a significant increase of the PCB153 concentration in the CSF. The aim of the present study was to evaluate how PCB153 treatment affects the VEGF/VEGFR system that maintains CSF homoeostasis and CP function. To do so, we collected CPs from ovariectomised, oestradiol-replaced adult ewes maintained under artificial LD or SD and treated them per os with low doses of PCB153 (0.3mg/kg, 3 times a week for 3 weeks). Exposure to PCB153 significantly affected (P<0.05) the VEGF/VEGFR system during the SD period, provoking increases in VEGF164 mRNA and protein levels and decreases in VEGFR-1 mRNA levels and VEGFR-2 mRNA and protein levels. These results suggest that exposure to environmentally relevant dose of PCB153 affects the VEGF/VEGFR system, which is involved in the fenestration of the CP endothelium and therefore in CSF production.

Abstract
The study was designed to determine the effects of peripheral injection of SB203580 on the synthesis of interleukin- (IL-) 1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) α in the hypothalamus of ewes during prolonged inflammation. Inflammation was induced by the administration of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (400 ng/kg) over 7 days. SB203580 is a selective ATP-competitive inhibitor of the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), which is involved in the regulation of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6 and TNFα synthesis. Intravenous injection of SB203580 successfully inhibited (P < 0.01) synthesis of IL-1β and reduced (P < 0.01) the production of IL-6 in the hypothalamus. The p38 MAPK inhibitor decreased (P < 0.01) gene expression of TNFα but its effect was not observed at the level of TNFα protein synthesis. SB203580 also reduced (P < 0.01) LPS-stimulated IL-1 receptor type 1 gene expression. The conclusion that inhibition of p38 MAPK blocks LPS-induced proinflammatory cytokine synthesis seems to initiate new perspectives in the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases also within the central nervous system. However, potential proinflammatory effects of SB203580 treatment suggest that all therapies using p38 MAPK inhibitors should be introduced very carefully with analysis of all expected and unexpected consequences of treatment.

Abstract
The present study was designed to examine the effect of intracerebroventricular (icv) administration of antilipopolysaccharide (LPS) antibody and blockade of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) during immune stress induced by intravenous (iv) LPS injection on the gonadotropin-releasing hormone/luteinizing hormone (GnRH/LH) secretion in anestrous ewes. Injection of anti-LPS antibody and TLR4 blockade significantly (P < 0.01) reduced the LPS dependent lowering amount of GnRH mRNA in the median eminence (ME). Moreover, blockade of TLR4 caused restoration of LH-β transcription in the anterior pituitary decreased by the immune stress. However, there was no effect of this treatment on reduced LH release. The results of our study showed that the blockade of TLR4 receptor in the hypothalamus is not sufficient to unblock the release of LH suppressed by the immune/inflammatory challenges. This suggests that during inflammation the LH secretion could be inhibited directly at the pituitary level by peripheral factors such as proinflammatory cytokines and circulating endotoxin as well.

Abstract
The cytokine IL-1 is critical to the pathogenesis of a variety of human conditions and diseases. Unlike most other cytokines, IL-1 is counterbalanced by two endogenous inhibitors. The functional significance of IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) is well documented due to the clinical utilization of the recombinant human IL-1RA analog, anakinra. In contrast, much less is known about the type 2 IL-1 receptor (IL-1R2), which acts as a decoy receptor for IL-1. While IL-1R2 is structurally similar to the type 1 IL-1 receptor (IL-1R1) responsible for IL-1 signal transduction, its truncated cytoplasmic domain and lack of Toll-IL-1 receptor (TIR) region renders IL-1R2 incapable of transmembrane signaling. IL-1R2 competes with IL-1R1 for ligands and for the IL-1R1 co-receptor, IL-1 receptor accessory protein (IL-1RAP). Additionally, IL-1R2 exists in both a membrane bound and soluble form (sIL-1R2) that has biological properties similar to both a decoy receptor and a binding protein. Thus far, IL-1R2 has been implicated in arthritis, endometriosis, organ transplantation, sepsis/sickness behavior, diabetes, atherosclerosis, autoimmune inner ear disease (AIED), Alzheimer's disease and ulcerative colitis. In this review, we will detail the functional properties of IL-1R2 and examine its role in human disease.

Abstract
Acting at the level of the brain, interleukin- (IL-)1 β is considered to be one of the most potent downregulators of reproduction processes during immune/inflammatory challenge. IL-1 β suppresses gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion from the hypothalamus resulting in the inhibition of the luteinizing hormone (LH) release from the anterior pituitary (AP). However, the presence of IL-1 β receptors in the AP suggests the possible direct action of this cytokine on LH secretion. The study was designed to determine the effect of IL-1 β on the LH secretion from the AP explants collected from saline and LPS-treated ewes in the follicular phase. It was found that IL-1 β suppressed (P ≤ 0.01) GnRH-stimulated LH release and LH β gene expression in AP explants in both groups. However, IL-1 β action was more potent in the explants collected from LPS-treated animals. Pituitaries from LPS-treated animals were characterized by increased (P ≤ 0.01) IL-1 type I receptor and decreased (P ≤ 0.01) GnRH receptor gene expression level compared to the saline-treated group. IL-1 β also affected the GnRH-R gene expression in explants collected from LPS-treated animals. Our results show that direct action of IL-1 β on the pituitary gonadotropes could be one of the reasons of the reproductive processes disorders accompanying an inflammatory state.

Abstract
The present study was designed to determine the effect of subcutaneous rivastigmine treatment on IL-1β expression and IL-1 type I receptor (IL-1R1) gene expression in the hypothalamic structures (preoptic area [POA], anterior hypothalamus [AHA], and medial basal hypothalamus [MBH]) of ewes after lipopolysaccharide (LPS) treatment. Endotoxin treatment increased (P ≤ 0.01) both IL-1β and IL-1R1 gene expression in the POA, AHA, and MBH compared with the control group, whereas concomitant rivastigmine and LPS injection abolished this stimulatory effect. It was also found that LPS elevated (P ≤ 0.01) IL-1β concentration in the hypothalamus (71.0 ± 2.3 pg/mg) compared with controls (16.1 ± 3.6 pg/mg). The simultaneous injection of LPS and rivastigmine did not increase IL-1β concentration in the hypothalamus (24.6 ± 13.0 pg/mg). This central change in IL-1β synthesis seems to be an effect of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition by rivastigmine, which decreases (P ≤ 0.01) the activity of this enzyme from 78.5 ± 15.0 μmol · min(-1) · g(-1) of total protein in the control and 68.8 ± 9.8 μmol · min(-1) · g(-1) of total protein in LPS-treated animals to 45.2 ± 5.6 μmol · min(-1) · g(-1) of total protein in the rivastigmine and LPS-treated group. Our study showed that rivastigmine could effectively reverse the stimulatory effect of immune stress induced by LPS injection on IL-1β synthesis through a decrease in AChE activity in the hypothalamic area of sheep. Our results also proved that the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway could directly modulate the central response to endotoxin.

Abstract
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-A) plays an important role in maintaining cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) homeostasis and the function of the choroid plexuses (CPs). The objective of the study was to determine the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-A), tyrosine kinase receptors Flt-1 and KDR and KDR co-receptor neuropilin 1 (NRP-1) in ovine CPs during different photoperiods. CPs were collected from the lateral brain ventricles from ovariectomized, estradiol-treated ewes during long day (LD; 16L:8D, n = 5) and short day (SD; 8L:16D, n = 5) photoperiods. We analyzed mRNA expression levels of two VEGF-A isoforms, VEGF-A120 and VEGF-A164 and our results indicate that VEGF-A164 was the predominant isoform. Expression levels of VEGF-A and Flt-1 were similar during the SD and LD photoperiods. There were significant increases in KDR mRNA and protein expression (p < 0.05) and NRP-1 mRNA expression (p < 0.05) during SD. These data show that expression of KDR and its co-receptor NRP-1 are up-regulated by short photoperiod and that this effect is not dependent on ovarian steroids. Our results suggest that the VEGF-A-system may be involved in photoperiodic plasticity of CP capillaries and may therefore be responsible for photoperiodic changes in the CSF turnover rate in ewes.
