Abstract
BACKGROUND The presence of various growth factors in platelets makes platelet-rich plasma (PRP) a powerful tool in the stimulation of collagen regeneration in aging skin. The main objective of this study was to determine efficacy and safety of PRP compared with saline solution in women with aging skin of the hands. METHODS In this prospective, randomized clinical trial, 18 women with hand aging received PRP injections every 4 weeks into the unilateral dorsal hand for 12 weeks total; with saline injections into the contralateral hand in a randomized, controlled, single-blind fashion. Physician assessment, photographs, and quality-of-life questionnaires were used for assessment at baseline and at 12-week and 24-week follow-up. RESULTS The majority of patients reported pain and discomfort along with a burning/stinging sensation in both PRP- and saline-treated hands, with no significant differences noted in any patient outcome measures between the 2 treatments (all P ≥ 0.25). No differences were reliably detected between the treatment hands by a blinded investigator comparing before-and-after clinical photographs of the hands. CONCLUSIONS Three injections of PRP spaced 4 weeks apart did not appear to be effective for treatment of aging skin of the hands in women, with no noted difference as compared with baseline, or saline injection. Although age older than 45 years may be a factor accounting for nonresponse (ie, subtle skin changes are difficult to appreciate, and possible limited platelet regenerative capacity in advanced age), it appears that PRP is not a reliable cosmetic option for management of hand aging. Abstract
BACKGROUND The market requires ever-faster techniques, in particular for pre-rejuvenation condition. AIM The purpose of this study was to assess if a fractional CO2 scanner modality (called moveo) results in a faster full-face rejuvenation treatment in comparison to the standard mode, currently existing in the scanner system. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 12 female patients affected by fine lines participated in a split-face clinical investigation and underwent to two sessions with a fractional CO2 laser system equipped with an existing and a faster dedicated scanner units. Pain was assessed using VAS. Three-dimensional clinical photographs were captured before, immediately after, 3 days, 14 days after the first treatment and immediately after the second treatment and 1 months after the last one. The uniformity and aesthetic coverage of treatments were assessed using dermatoscopy. Global aesthetic improvement scale (GAIS) was used. The time taken to treat the two sides of the face and all possible side effects were monitored. RESULTS Following only two treatment session with both scanner modes, the patient's skin texture improved significantly, with fine lines reduction. There is no statistically significant difference in perceived pain between patients. The GAIS score showed satisfactory results following both modalities. The time parameters indicated that with the faster scanner mode the full-face treatment time was reduced by 30% compared to the standard one. No adverse effects were observed. CONCLUSIONS The moveo modality provide faster treatment and a better final dermal aesthetic outcome than the standard procedure while maintaining the same safety profile.

Abstract
Growth in the research, innovation, and development of laser and energy-based technologies over the past few decades has led to dramatic increases in treatment options for dermatologic and cosmetic concerns of the periorbital area. We highlight recent treatment options using laser and energy-based devices for the clearance of periocular pigmented lesions, including solar lentigines and nevus of Ota; vascular lesions, including port-wine birthmarks, infantile hemangiomas, superficial telangiectasias, and reticular veins; laser ablation of benign tumors, such as xanthelasma; cosmetic rejuvenation; treatment of infraorbital dark circles and festoons; laser removal of eyebrow and eyeliner tattoos; and device-based treatment of chronic dry eyes.

Abstract
Bioproducts derived from platelets have been extensively used across various medical fields, with a recent notable surge in their application in dermatology and aesthetic procedures. These products, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), play crucial roles in inducing blood vessel proliferation through growth factors derived from peripheral blood. PRP and PRF, in particular, facilitate fibrin polymerization, creating a robust structure that serves as a reservoir for numerous growth factors. These factors contribute to tissue regeneration by promoting cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration and collagen/elastin production. Aesthetic medicine harnesses these effects for diverse purposes, including hair restoration, scar treatment, striae management, and wound healing. Furthermore, these biological products can act as adjuvants with other treatment modalities, such as laser therapy, radiofrequency, and microneedling. This review synthesizes the existing evidence, offering insights into the applications and benefits of biological products in aesthetic medicine.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Facial aging has long been an area of focus in esthetic surgery. It is the consequence of physiologic and environmental factors, with a trend toward non-surgical modalities. Although volume augmentation has long been a focus of non-surgical facial rejuvenation, there is emerging interest in the use of biostimulators to induce physiologic changes in the skin. This article aimed to provide an overview of this class of therapies. METHODS A systematic review regarding the clinical use of biostimulatory agents including platelet-rich plasma (PRP), platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) in facial rejuvenation was performed using PubMed databases. The protocol was developed following the preferred reporting for items for systematic reviews-protocols guidelines. Included studies matched predetermined criteria according to the employed intervention and outcomes. RESULTS The systematic review was performed in September 2023, with the primary search yielding 464 articles. Abstract review resulted in 73 articles of potential relevance. Comprehensive review of the articles and manual reference checks were performed, independently, by 2 authors. This yielded a total of 45 articles that met the inclusion criteria. CONCLUSIONS There is an increasing role for non-surgical modalities in facial rejuvenation. Biostimulatory agents may be used as an alternative, or act as an adjunct, to other non-surgical modalities. These agents induce physiologic changes that mitigate facial aging. There is limited, quantifiable data, which fully illustrate the effect in these products. Although these agents are known to illicit inflammatory changes, more controlled studies are needed to better elucidate the biostimulatory capacity of such non-surgical treatments.

Abstract
Although rehabilitation medicine emphasizes a holistic health approach, there is still a large gap of knowledge about potential interventions aimed at improving overall wellbeing through cosmetic interventions. Therefore, this narrative review investigates the role of different rehabilitative techniques in enhancing aesthetics, quality of life, and psychosocial wellbeing for patients with disabilities. The study follows the SANRA framework quality criteria for a narrative review. Literature searches across PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, and Scopus identified articles focusing on rehabilitation strategies within the aesthetic rehabilitation domain. The review identified evidence supporting injection procedures, such as Botulinum Toxin, Platelet-Rich Plasma, Hyaluronic Acid, Ozone, and Carboxytherapy, and assessing their applications in several disabling disorders. Additionally, physical therapies like Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy, Laser Therapy, Microcurrent Therapy, Tecar Therapy, and physical exercises were explored for their impact on cutaneous microcirculation, cellulite treatment, wound healing, and scar appearance improvement. Lastly, the manuscript underlines the role of manual therapy techniques in addressing both physical discomfort and aesthetic concerns, discussing their effectiveness in adipose tissue therapy, scar tissue mobilization, and regional fat thickness reduction. Taken together, this review emphasizes the role of a multidisciplinary approach, aiming to provide valuable insights into potential benefits for both functional and aesthetic outcomes.

Abstract
Focused ultrasound (FUS) is emerging as one of the most promising, non-invasive treatment techniques. The advancement of transducer technology has paved the way for dermatological applications. A comprehensive review is presented for healthcare practitioners and researchers, summarizing the effect of various operational parameters on the injury zone produced by ultrasound beams for various dermatological applications, which include skin tightening, fat reduction, hyperpigmentation and cancer treatment. In this article, we aim to highlight the efficient operational parameters of FUS to enhance pain relief during surgery and its affordability for skin treatment. Finally, a prospective future technique for efficient FUS is discussed.

Abstract
This article includes the data from current studies regarding the pathophysiological mechanisms of skin aging and the regenerative processes occurring in the epidermis and dermis at the molecular and cellular level, mainly, the key role of dermal fibroblasts in skin regeneration. Analyzing these data, the authors proposed the concept of skin anti-age therapy that is based on the correction of age-related skin changes by stimulating regenerative processes at the molecular and cellular level. The main target of the skin anti-age therapy is dermal fibroblasts (DFs). A variant of the cosmetological anti-age program using the combination of laser and cellular methods of regenerative medicine is presented in the paper. The program includes three stages of implementation and defines the tasks and methods of each stage. Thus, laser technologies allow one to remodel the collagen matrix and create favorable conditions for DFs functions, whereas the cultivated autologous dermal fibroblasts replenish the pool of mature DFs decreasing with age and are responsible for the synthesis of components of the dermal extracellular matrix. Finally, the use of autological platelet-rich plasma (PRP) enables to maintenance of the achieved results by stimulating DF function. It has been shown that growth factors/cytokines contained in α-granules of platelets injected into the skin bind to the corresponding transmembrane receptors on the surface of DFs and stimulate their synthetic activity. Thus, the consecutive, step-by-step application of the described methods of regenerative medicine amplifies the effect on the molecular and cellular aging processes and thereby allows one to optimize and prolong the clinical results of skin rejuvenation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Wrinkles are the most visible sign in skin aging and for which many people seek different aesthetic procedures. Treatment options varies from invasive to non-invasive procedures. Combining platelet rich plasma and fractional carbon dioxide laser (CO2 ) has been used frequently for showing promising results in treating photoaged skin generally and wrinkles specifically since the microscopic thermal zones created by the fractional laser facilitates the delivery of the plasma into the dermis which aids the process of collagen induction and skin rejuvenation. AIM OF THE WORK To compare and assess the clinical efficacy of fractional CO2 laser alone versus combined fractional CO2 laser and platelet rich plasma in treatment of facial rhytides (in terms of size, depth, and overall appearance). SUBJECTS AND METHODS Twenty-six female patients were selected and each face was split into 2 halves a control side (Laser + saline) and an experimental side (Laser + platelet rich plasma). Treatment plan was 1 laser session per month for a total of 4 sessions. Clinical objective evaluation was done by the Antera camera in addition to assessment by two blinded dermatologists. RESULTS The combined treatment was as effective in improving wrinkles as fractional CO2 laser alone. Antera camera scores showed statistical significance in overall wrinkles measurements on each side equally. CONCLUSION Both treatment modalities gave optimum cosmetic results with no significant difference noticed when compared with each other, although overall satisfaction with wrinkles and skin were statistically greater than the initial satisfaction scores.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been used in plastic surgery, dermatology, and other treatment procedures worldwide. Since the number of scientific writings has been significantly increasing, it is challenging to generate a manual compilation and systematic review of PRP's therapeutic applications in dermatology and plastic surgeries. This study aimed to make a bibliometric analysis of the literature in the field and evaluate research hotspots and frontiers in this field in the past 20 years. METHODS Using the Academic Search Premier and ScienceDirect defined search terms, we searched the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and Scopus databases. All data were analyzed using CiteSpace 5.8.R3 and VOSviewer, including countries, institutions, authors, keywords, cited authors, cited journals, cited references, discovered research hotspots, and frontiers. RESULTS A total of 1931 studies were retrieved. The number of publications on PRP application in dermatology and plastic surgeries showed a yearly increase. The United States was the most significant contributor to this field, while Italy's contribution was noteworthy. The journal with the highest number of relevant articles in dermatology and plastic surgery included the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. However, the Wound Repair and Regeneration and International Journal of Molecular Sciences were the leading journals that should be paid attention to in the future. Author Anitua E from the Tor Vergata University of Rome published the most publications in this field. In the keyword co-occurrence analysis, all keywords were divided into six clusters, and the most common one in recent years was "PRP for facial beauty." Facial rejuvenation, scar, and alopecia were the main hotspots and research trends in this field. CONCLUSIONS Based on the current global trends, the use of PRP in cosmetics and skin care is receiving increasing attention from researchers and clinicians. Recently, an increasing number of articles on PRP's application in skin tissue repair have been published in the United States and Italy. The number of studies on hair loss, facial rejuvenation, and scar management is increasing, suggesting that these subjects may become research hotspots for PRP in dermatology and cosmetic surgeries in recent years.

Abstract
The preparation of autologous platelet and extracellular vesicle-rich plasma (PVRP) has been explored in many medical fields with the aim to benefit from its healing potential. In parallel, efforts are being invested to understand the function and dynamics of PVRP that is complex in its composition and interactions. Some clinical evidence reveals beneficial effects of PVRP, while some report that there were no effects. To optimize the preparation methods, functions and mechanisms of PVRP, its constituents should be better understood. With the intention to promote further studies of autologous therapeutic PVRP, we performed a review on some topics regarding PVRP composition, harvesting, assessment and preservation, and also on clinical experience following PVRP application in humans and animals. Besides the acknowledged actions of platelets, leukocytes and different molecules, we focus on extracellular vesicles that were found abundant in PVRP.

Abstract
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is being used as a treatment modality for skin rejuvenation since the last decade. There has been a lot of ambiguity regarding the ideal protocol to be followed and the specific indications where its use should be promoted. The use of PRP as monotherapy for skin rejuvenation, acne scars, periorbital rejuvenation, lipofilling and in combination with fractional CO2 and other resurfacing modalities is increasing rapidly. In this article, we have reviewed the current scientific evidence available and the IADVL national task force for PRP has come up with standard recommendations for use of PRP in esthetics along with the grade of evidence and strength of recommendation for each indication. The aim of this review is to provide a standard protocol for use of PRP in esthetics, for clinicians and academicians, leading to excellent results with this promising treatment modality.

Abstract
Aims The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of high‐energy ablative fractional nanosecond Q‐switched 1064 nm laser therapy for acne scars. Material and methods Forty‐six patients aged from 16 to 69 years and of Fitzpatrick skin type from 2 to 4 were included in this retrospective study. Multiple passes were delivered with a fractional 1064‐nm handpiece at high energy. Results were evaluated using blinded analysis of patient before and after photographs and also by evaluating patient satisfaction. Results Most patients (75%) were improved or very improved according to blinded evaluation. Patient satisfaction was high. No hypo/hyperpigmentation, scarring, or any other side effects were reported by any of the patients. Conclusions The study demonstrated good clinical outcomes in facial acne scar management with a high patient satisfaction rate and no adverse side effects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Aging affects the face in all its dimensions. However, more has been published about the improvement of the periocular, midface, and perioral aging changes. We believe the profile view, particularly the preauricular area, is of great value when assessing the need for facial contouring procedures, as well as their effectiveness. OBJECTIVE To develop and evaluate a classification based on the aging changes around the preauricular area, which aims to provide an objective direction to the appropriate treatment method. METHODS AND MATERIALS All patients who attended the clinic for different aesthetic procedures between June 2019 and January 2020 were photographed. Two non-treating dermatologists and two non-treating plastic surgeons were asked to evaluate the perceived aging of the preauricular area using a three-point grading system. The assessment of each photograph was made once by each evaluator, and the inter-rater correlation was calculated. RESULTS A total of 158 profile pictures of the preauricular area of 158 patients were evaluated by two non-treating dermatologists and two non-treating plastic surgeons. The inter-rater correlation was excellent at 0.942. The mean grading system of the patient samples was 1.42, with a standard deviation of 0.9 and a variance of 0.001. CONCLUSIONS The preauricular area is often overlooked and undertreated. Our results demonstrate an excellent inter-rater correlation between plastic surgeons and dermatologists at assessing the degree of aging in the area. This relatively hidden lateral area can serve as a test point, evaluating response to selected treatment before proceeding to full-face intervention. We suggest using a simple three-point scale to help guide treatment of the preauricular area and as part of our holistic approach to facial rejuvenation. Abstract
Introduction Melasma is a chronic and recurrent skin problem for which an effective therapy is currently lacking. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has recently emerged as a novel treatment for melasma, but to date there has been no systematic evaluation of its efficacy and safety. Methods The Web of Science, PubMed, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and the Cochrane Library databases were searched for relevant articles using the search items “melasma,” “chloasma” and “platelet‐rich plasma.” STATA version 15.1 software was used to analyze data. Study outcomes were calculated using standardized mean differences with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results The database search identified ten studies involving 395 adult patients that met the inclusion criteria and were included in the meta-analysis. Analysis of pre- and post-treatment data from these studies revealed that the post-treatment modified Melasma Area and Severity Index (mMASI) score decreased by 1.18 (95% CI 0.89–1.47; p = 0.02). Subjective satisfaction evaluation of PRP treatment showed that melasma treated with the combination therapy of PRP + microneedling may have been the most efficacious treatment compared to PRP alone or in combination with intradermal injection. Adverse reactions were minor, with only a few patients reporting local congestion, temporary erythema, hyperpigmentation and discoloration. Conclusion These results support the efficacy and safety of PRP used in combination or alone as treatment for melasma. Abstract
BACKGROUND Many therapeutic options are currently available for facial skin rejuvenation, but little evidence exists about the efficacy of combining such procedures. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess and investigate the synergistic effect of hyaluronic acid (HA) and autologous platelet-rich plasma (a-PRP) injections on facial skin rejuvenation. METHODS For this randomized controlled prospective study, 93 eligible patients were enrolled and randomized into 3 intervention groups to undergo a series of 3 treatment sessions with either a-PRP, HA, or a mixture of a-PRP and HA (Cellular Matrix; Regen Lab) injected into facial cheeks. RESULTS A total of 93 patients were included. Treatment with Cellular Matrix led to a very significant improvement in the overall facial appearance compared with treatment with a-PRP or HA alone (P < 0.0001). Participants treated with Cellular Matrix showed a 20%, 24%, and 17% increase in FACE-Q score at 1, 3, and 6 months posttreatment, respectively. For the HA group, the improvement in FACE-Q score was 12%, 11%, and 6% at 1, 3, and 6 months posttreatment, respectively, whereas for the a-PRP group the improvement was 9%, 11%, and 8% at 1, 3, and 6 months posttreatment, respectively. Biophysical measurements showed significantly improved skin elasticity for the Cellular Matrix group compared with the groups receiving a-PRP or HA alone. No serious adverse events were reported. CONCLUSIONS Combining a-PRP and HA seems to be a promising treatment for facial rejuvenation with a highly significant improvement in facial appearance and skin elasticity compared with a-PRP or HA alone. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous blood product which has recently been used in multiple spheres of dermatology including facial rejuvenation, androgenetic alopecia, acne scars, and wound healing. Its use in melasma is comparatively an understudied topic. MATERIAL AND METHODS An extensive systematic literature search of the PubMed electronic database and Cochrane central register of controlled trials was done using the keywords "platelet rich plasma" and "melasma" in the title. Relevant studies were selected and data were analyzed by two different authors. Four articles were excluded as they did not adhere to the inclusion criteria of this review and a total of 6 articles were reviewed.The relevant references of the included articles were also traced and included. DISCUSSION These studies showed that PRP has been used effectively not only as an adjuvant therapy but also as a standalone treatment for melasma. PRP contains about 30 growth factors, transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) being one of the growth factors having a predominant role in treatment of melasma. TGF-β decreases signal transduction of microphthalmia-induced transcription factor and thus decreases tyrosinase and tyrosinase-related proteins. In addition to this, PRP also has an additional benefit of inducing collagen synthesis thus improving the quality and texture of the skin. But there is a scarcity of data and large randomized controlled trials. This review is an effort to highlight and upscale the use of this excellent blood product for melasma which is quite a treatment refractory disorder.

Abstract
Background and aim of the work: Several studies have shown beneficial effects for Platelet-rich plasma (PRP). We aimed to assess the efficacy of pure PRP injection for facial rejuvenation in Iran. Methods: 30 female consecutive participants were injected with PRP in two sessions with 3 month interval. Evaluations were performed by comparing the pre- and post-improvement measurements of skin scan, before after photography by participants, therapeutic physician and blindly by a second dermatologist. Results: In 3 and 6 months follow-ups respectively, moderate to excellent improvement in periorbital dark circles (47.8,60.9%), periorbital wrinkles (73.9%,78.3%), nasolabial fold (52.2%,56.6%) and skin rigidity (52.3%,60.9%) reported by patients, was statistically significant only for dark circle(P value 0.031). Moderate to good improvement in periorbital dark circles (47.9%,74%), periorbital wrinkles (39.1%,43.5%)and nasolabial folds (4.3% ,13.1%) demonstrated by therapeutic physician‘s evaluation, was statistically significant for dark circle (P value 0.008) and nasolabial folds (P value 0.025). Moderate to good improvement in periorbital dark circles (34.8%, 52.2%), periorbital wrinkles (26.1%, 34.8%) and nasolabial folds (4.4%, 13%) by second dermatologist, was statistically significant for dark circle (P value 0.025). Conclusion: Face rejuvenation with PRP is a promising and noninvasive technique with best results observed in improving periorbital dark circles and wrinkles. (www.actabiomedica.it)

Abstract
BACKGROUND The use of platelet-rich plasma has emerged as one of the most desired nonsurgical treatments for facial rejuvenation and hair restoration. It has grown to encompass a wide variety of applications within the field of plastic surgery, including its use in combination with microneedling, laser, and fat-grafting procedures. METHODS In this article, the authors aim to (1) describe the preparation process of platelet-rich plasma; (2) discuss the proposed science behind platelet-rich plasma with regard to its evolving role in hair restoration and facial rejuvenation; and (3) highlight the recent literature examining its widespread use. RESULTS Based on the available literature, there is a therapeutic advantage to the use of platelet-rich plasma as a single treatment modality for alopecia and skin rejuvenation and in combination with laser skin treatment and fat grafting. There is, however, a considerable amount of variability in the processing, preparation, and treatment modalities. CONCLUSIONS Despite a lack of standardized protocols for platelet-rich plasma preparation and a scarcity of large-scale studies with long-term follow-up, there is convincing evidence with objective measurement modalities that display positive outcomes after treatment for skin rejuvenation, hair regrowth, wound healing, and fat graft take.

Abstract
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is an upcoming interventional therapy for the treatment of melasma. Its efficacy is due to the multiple growth factors present in it which decrease melanogenesis by various signal transduction pathways. The present study evaluated the efficacy of PRP as a standalone agent in treatment of melasma. This is an open labeled prospective trial. Forty patients were given intralesional PRP at once monthly interval. Three such PRP sessions were carried out and the patients were followed up for 3 months. Assessment was done by calculating the modified melasma area severity index score (mMASI) for each patient. Patients were also asked to self-evaluate their improvement based on a scale. There was an average 54.5% reduction in the mMASI score at the end of the study. There was no relapse in any patient. This reduction was irrespective of the skin type, gender, and type of melasma. Patients self-evaluation showed that more than 90% of the patients were pleased or very pleased with the results. There were no significant side effects. PRP appears to be a potential new therapy with significant efficacy in improving pigmentation of melasma, standalone as monotherapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Numerous therapeutic techniques for periorbital hyperpigmentation have been suggested. AIM In this comparative intrapatient study, the effectiveness of combination therapy included fractional Er: YAG laser and autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) compared to Er: YAG laser in periorbital hyperpigmentation treatment. PATIENTS/METHODS Thirty-two patients were enrolled. The right periorbital sides of patients received combination of Er: YAG laser and autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and the left side received Er: YAG laser (three sessions with 4 weeks' intervals). PRP was used in two ways included injection and topical. Patients were evaluated by biometric characteristics, patients, and physician assessments. Also, the patient's satisfaction was assessed and side effects were evaluated. RESULTS The mexameter results showed that the melanin content in the right side of the periorbital of the patients was significantly decreased compared to left side. Also, significant increase was observed in the skin lightness of the right side in compare to left. The visioface results showed the decrease in the percent change of the color and wrinkle in both sides, but in the right side these changes were significantly more than left side. The patients and physician assessment confirmed the measured results. CONCLUSION Combination of Er: YAG laser and PRP is significantly effective for periorbital hyperpigmentation.

Abstract
Intradermal injection of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a non-surgical cosmetic therapy to rejuvenate the periorbital area pathologies of wrinkles, periorbital hyperpigmentation (POH), and photoaging. The past decade has seen the adoption of this novel therapy around the world. This is the first systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating PRP treatment of periorbital pathologies. This is a PRISMA compliant review that includes a comprehensive search of the databases Cochrane Library, Ovid Medline, Ovid Embase, and clinicaltrials.gov. The search was performed in June 2019 to obtain all peer-reviewed articles published in English that describe the application of PRP to periorbital pathologies. A meta-analysis of patient satisfaction was performed for randomized controlled trials. Nineteen studies treating 455 patients (95% female, age range 28-60) were included. Studies were categorized based on reported outcomes: wrinkles (11 studies), POH (7 studies), and photoaging (6 studies). Patients were treated a mean of 3 times (range 1-8) in mean intervals of 23 days (range 14-56 days). Follow-up averaged 3 months (range 1-6 months). Meta-analysis of 3 randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) shows that patients treated with PRP have increased satisfaction above controls of saline, platelet-poor plasma, mesotherapy, and as an adjunct to laser therapy (overall effect p = 0.001, heterogeneity I2 = 64%). PRP treatment of periorbital area pathologies results in histologic improvements of photoaging, subjective satisfaction score increases, and blind evaluator assessments of rejuvenated skin appearance. Future studies are needed to address limitations of the current literature and should include long-term follow-up, delineation of the POH etiology that is treated, RCTs with low risk of bias, and be absent conflicts of interest or industry sponsors.Trial registration: Prospero Systematic Review Registration ID: CRD42019135968.

Abstract
Introduction: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous blood-derived product that contains platelet concentrations at least 2/3 times above the normal level and includes platelet-related growth factors. The concept of PRP began in the 1970s in the field of hematology to treat patients with thrombocytopenia. In the 1980s and 1990s, PRP began to be used in surgical procedures such as maxillofacial surgery and plastic surgery. Since then, PRP had been used in orthopedic procedures, cardiac surgery, sports injuries, plastic surgery, gynecology, urology, and more recently in medical esthetics. Areas covered: This review analyzes the mechanisms of action, current indications, clinical evidence, safety and future directions of PRP in the management of various medical conditions. The literature search methodology included using medical subject headings terms to search in PubMed. Articles used were screened and critically appraised by the coauthors of this review. Expert Opinion: Platelet-rich plasma is a therapeutic option used to treat many medical conditions. PRP could be used alone or in combination with other procedures. The effectiveness and safety of PRP has been demonstrated in many medical scenarios, however there is limited availability of large randomized clinical trials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an increasingly popular treatment modality for various dermatologic conditions, but there are limitations in both the published literature and clinician knowledge. OBJECTIVE To create a high-yield, in-depth analysis of PRP in procedural dermatology by reviewing available data on its role in hair restoration, soft-tissue remodeling, resurfacing, and rejuvenation; identifying practice gaps and controversies; and making suggestions for future research that will establish dermatologists as pioneers of regenerative medicine. MATERIALS AND METHODS A two-part systematic review and expert analysis of publications before October 2018. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION Most studies on PRP report favorable outcomes with the strongest level of evidence existing for androgenetic alopecia followed by postprocedure wound healing, scar revision, striae, rejuvenation, and dermal filling. There is a dearth of large randomized controlled trials, considerable heterogeneity in the variables studied, and lack of specificity in the preparatory protocols, which may influence clinical outcomes. Future investigations should use consistent nomenclature, find ideal solution parameters for each cutaneous indication, determine significant outcome metrics, and follow double-blinded, randomized, controlled methodologies. Addressing these deficiencies will take sound scientific inquiry but ultimately has the potential to benefit the authors' specialty greatly.

Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness and safety of ablative fractional carbon dioxide laser systems (CO2 AFL) combined with autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the treatment of acne scars through the retrieval and collection of related literature to further guide the treatment of acne scars. We searched Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, Wanfang Data, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, and VIP Database. All randomized and nonrandomized controlled trials on CO2 AFL combined with PRP in the treatment of acne scars were included, and Revman5.3 systematic review software was used in the meta-analysis. Nine studies were included in this meta-analysis. The data analysis results showed that the CO2 AFL combined with PRP treatment group showed significantly better results than the pure CO2 AFL control group in terms of clinical improvement score, clinical improvement rate, patient satisfaction, and crusting period. The results of this meta-analysis showed that CO2 AFL combined with PRP in the treatment of acne scars is more effective and safer than CO2 AFL alone.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES To compare the efficacy of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP), ablative fractional carbon dioxide (FCO2 ) laser, and their combination in the treatment of atrophic acne scars, both clinically and immuno-histopathologically. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty patients were randomly divided into three equal groups. Group 1 received intradermal PRP injection sessions. Group 2 received FCO2 laser sessions. Group 3 received FCO2 laser followed by intradermal PRP injection sessions. Each group received three sessions at monthly intervals. The final assessment took place 3 months after the last session. Skin biopsies were obtained before and 1 month after treatment sessions with pathological evaluation. RESULTS Combined PRP and FCO2 laser-treated patients had a better clinical response, fewer side effects, and shorter downtime than FCO2 laser alone. PRP-treated patients had some improvement but significantly lower than the other two groups. CONCLUSION The current study concluded that a combination of PRP and FCO2 laser is an effective and safe modality in the treatment of atrophic acne scars with better results than PRP or FCO2 laser alone. Abstract
BACKGROUND Improvements in skin erythema and elasticity have been observed with topical application of platelet-rich plasma after fractional laser (FXD) treatment. Injections of nanofat via small needles into the dermis improves tissue thickness, discoloration and wrinkle depth. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate improvements in skin following a nonablative FXD treatment combined with the application of a novel topical nanofat biocrème, called neo-U. METHODS Fifty patients were treated with a nonablative FXD followed by application of a topical nanofat biocrème. Harvested fat was processed into nanofat, which was compounded with a transdermal liposomal delivery vector to produce a topical biocrème. In 2 patients, postauricular skin punch biopsies were performed before and after treatment and examined for histologic changes. Photographs of a historical group treated with only the FXD were compared with photographs of patients treated with a combination of topical nanofat biocrème and FXD. Skin types were evaluated for improvements in nasolabial folds, wrinkles, and skin texture. RESULTS Findings from postauricular skin biopsies show the skin exposed to FXD with nanofat biocrème had more elastin fibers and a slight increase in the thickness of the epidermis. Patients treated with FXD plus nanofat biocrème had a statistically significant improvement in the degree of wrinkles, nasolabial fold depth, and texture compared with historical controls. CONCLUSIONS Transdermal delivery of nanofat topical biocrème applied after FXD treatment can serve as a delivery system to improve fine lines, nasolabial fold depth, and overall texture of the tissue to a greater degree than laser resurfacing alone.

RESULTS AND CONCLUSION Most studies on PRP report favorable outcomes with the strongest level of evidence existing for androgenetic alopecia followed by postprocedure wound healing, scar revision, striae, rejuvenation, and dermal filling. There is a dearth of large randomized controlled trials, considerable heterogeneity in the variables studied, and lack of specificity in the preparatory protocols, which may influence clinical outcomes. Future investigations should use consistent nomenclature, find ideal solution parameters for each cutaneous indication, determine significant outcome metrics, and follow double-blinded, randomized, controlled methodologies. Addressing these deficiencies will take sound scientific inquiry but ultimately has the potential to benefit the authors' specialty greatly.

Abstract
Background: Different modalities have been tried for treating atrophic post traumatic scars.Objective: To compare the efficacy of microneedling combined with PRP with that of fractional erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er: YAG) laser in treating post-traumatic atrophic scars.Methods: Forty-five patients with atrophic post traumatic scars were subdivided into three groups. Group I was subjected to four sessions of skin microneedling followed by topical application of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) immediately after each session. Group II was subjected to the same protocol of treatment but for six sessions. Group III was subjected to four sessions of fractional Er: YAG laser at 4 weeks intervals for four sessions. Response to treatment was assessed clinically using the Quartile Grading Scale and histopathologically using H&E stain, trichrome and Orcein special stains.Results: All patients showed significant clinical improvement regardless of the treatment. There was a significant difference in clinical and histopathological improvement between groups I and III, but there was no significant difference in improvement neither between groups I and II nor between groups II and III.Conclusion: microneedling could be as effective as a fractional laser when combined with PRP and when used for more sessions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The periorbital region is among the first areas to be affected by the process of aging, which is influenced by genetic and constitutional factors. As the region plays an important role in overall facial appearance, rejuvenation of the area has immense cosmetic benefit and various treatment modalities have been used to achieve the same. AIMS This article reviews commonly used non-surgical and minimally invasive modalities for periorbital rejuvenation. METHODS The literature research considered published journal articles (clinical trials or scientific reviews). Studies were identified by searching electronic databases (MEDLINE and PubMed) and reference lists of respective articles. Only articles available in English were considered for this review. RESULTS Autologous platelet rich plasma (PRP) is increasingly used in dermatology for skin and hair conditions. The use of PRP is rapidly growing in popularity as a modality to achieve skin rejuvenation. The mechanism by which PRP leads to skin rejuvenation is by increasing the dermal fibroblast proliferation, expression of matrix metalloproteinase and collagen synthesis. CONCLUSION The evidence discussed in this article indicates the increasing importance of minimally invasive modalities in periorbital rejuvenation and a promising role for PRP as solo therapy or in multimodality regimens.

Abstract
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a promising treatment for hair restoration in patients with androgenic alopecia. Created from a platelet concentrate from an autologous blood draw, PRP is a safe therapeutic option for patients with hair loss. It is used alone or in conjunction with topical and oral therapies. Most studies of hair restoration with PRP report positive outcomes. Further research to optimize PRP preparation/administration procedures and identify patient populations that benefit most from this treatment are needed, as is long-term follow-up of objective hair loss outcomes. PRP appears to be a safe technology with excellent potential for promoting hair restoration.

Abstract
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has gained popularity in facial plastic surgery because of its role in wound healing. PRP, having a higher concentration of platelets, allows for greater release of growth factors and biologically active proteins, which in turn activates the wound-healing cascade stimulating neoangiogenesis and collagen production. One of the most popular uses for PRP is for facial skin rejuvenation in the form of dermal injections and topical application during microneedling. The promising nature of PRP makes using it for injection and/or in conjunction with microneedling a good addition to any practice that deals with skin rejuvenation.

Abstract
Introduction: The goal of our prospective study was to assess the efficacy of the topical Platelet-rich plasma on reducing superficial perioral wrinkles and restoring the dermal matrix. Materials and methods: 50 women with moderate to severe perioral wrinkles were treated on the perioral area by a single session of fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing plus intradermal injection of prp. 25 patients (group 1) applied topically prp twice a day for 12 weeks as post laser treatment. 25 (group 2) applied gentamicin and betamethasone twice a day for the first 7 days and then hyaluronic acid gel for the following 12 weeks. Results: In group 1, moisture (p < 0.001), amount of collagen fiber (p < 0.001) skin elasticity (p < 0.001), PSAl (p < 0.001) and SSAl (p < 0.001) improved significantly. In group 2 all the parameters investigated improved but did not reach significant difference. Discussion: Our medical device with a plasma-like formulation is able to maintain prp active for a period of 7 days so patients are able to apply topically growth factors at home. Conclusions: Our prospective study proves that the use of topical prp reduces superficial perioral wrinkles and restore dermal matrix when used at home for 12 weeks.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been widely applied in orthopedics, maxillofacial surgery, burns, and plastic surgery, especially in facial rejuvenation. Research is ongoing into new indications and mechanisms of PRP to promote its wider, safer, and more effective use in the clinic. This article reviews the possible mechanisms of PRP in facial rejuvenation and related research. It is expected that the application of PRP in this field will increase. METHODS The use of PRP in facial rejuvenation was screened using inclusion and exclusion criteria. The relevant articles were searched through Pubmed digest database, SCI full-text database, ScienceDirect full-text database, and the CNKI full-text database. The different effects and limitations of PRP were extracted. RESULTS A total of 108 articles were obtained, including 18 articles researching PRP in cells, 10 articles on animal research using PRP, 16 articles on the clinical study of PRP, 24 articles involving signs of skin aging, and four articles on the limitations of PRP. The remaining articles were related to the preparation of PRP, the introduction of PRP, and other aspects. CONCLUSION Based on in vitro and in vivo research, PRP may play a role in promoting tissue regeneration, oxidative stress and revascularization, which form the theoretical basis for the use of PRP in the clinical treatment of facial rejuvenation. Abstract
As a promising alternative to traditional treatment, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is being used to encourage hair growth through the release of growth factors and cytokines. In addition to hair restoration, PRP’s multifactorial capabilities can also be used to treat aging skin, facial scarring, and acne. The purpose of this review is to critically examine the success of PRP in the field of dermatology, with specific attention to the role of PRP in hair restoration. Where possible, meta-analyses were used to evaluate the efficacy of PRP. In androgenetic alopecia (AGA) patients, 3 monthly PRP injections (1 session administered every month for 3 months) exhibited greater efficacy over placebo as measured by change in total hair density (hair/cm2) over the treatment period (mean difference: 25.61, 95% CI: 4.45 to 46.77; P = .02). The studies included in the meta-analysis used a half-head design, which may have influenced the results because of the effects PRP can induce. Controlled studies suggest that 2 to 4 sessions of PRP combined with traditional therapies and procedures can help minimize acne scarring and facial burns, improve aesthetic results, and decrease recovery time. However, data for these indications are lacking and are less robust in design. In conclusion, to achieve an improvement in hair restoration in patients with mild AGA, 3 initial monthly PRP injections should be given. Only upon completion of rigorous, randomized, controlled studies can standardized and effective PRP protocols for treating dermatology conditions such as acne scarring, facial burns, and aging skin be determined.

Abstract
Dark skin type has high propensity to acne scarring and is often complicated by persistent erythema or pigmentation at the base. Fractional lasers are available for the longest period and are able to improve most atrophic acne scars. Often pigmented scar bases and dark skin types limit the use of aggressive laser parameters. Long pulse mode is preferred over short pulse to prevent epidermal damage; low fluence is chosen versus high fluence and low density versus high density. Repeated treatments are needed to minimize complications and optimize results; all these must be achieved through a controlled stage of inflammation. Interventional priming with chemical peels and laser toning before ablative fractional carbon dioxide laser helps to reduce photodamage, recent tan, and pigment at scar base, thus minimizing the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Multiple recent literature evidence validates the combinations to optimize outcomes in atrophic acne scars as discussed in this review article.

Abstract
The 1064-nm Q-switched neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser is widely used in clinical practice. However, the effects of 1064-nm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser on skin collagen generation have not been fully elucidated. The objectives of the present study were to investigate whether the 1064-nm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser can be used for non-ablative rejuvenation and to explore the possible mechanism underlying the effects. Six-week-old SKH-1 hairless mice were irradiated by the 1064-nm Nd:YAG laser at fluences of 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 J/cm2, respectively. The contents of hydroxyproline and hydration were detected after laser irradiation. Moreover, hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining was preformed to evaluate the dermal thickness. Immunofluorescence was used to detect the expressions of MMP-2 and TIMP-1 in the skin after laser irradiation. Furthermore, qRT-PCR was performed to determine the expressions of TGF-β1 and Smad3. In addition, the expressions of ERK1/2, p-ERK1/2, p38, p-p38, JNK, ERK5, and collagen were evaluated by Western blotting. The results indicated that the levels of hydroxyproline, hydration, and collagen were markedly increased; both the thickness of dermal was enhanced after low dose of laser treatment. Moreover, the expression of TIMP-1 was significantly increased, whereas the expression of MMP-2 was remarkably decreased after laser irradiation. Meanwhile, TGF-β1, Smad3, p-ERK1/2, p-P38, and JNK productions were significantly enhanced in irradiated group compared with the ones non-irradiated. Nevertheless, no significant changes were observed in the expression of ERK5 after irradiation. In summary, our study demonstrated that Q-switched 1064-nm Nd:YAG laser can induce collagen generation, at least in part, through activating TGF-β1/Smad3/MAPK signaling pathway.

Abstract
Platelet preparations, including platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin matrix, have been used to improve wound healing, recovery time, and cosmetic outcomes for facial rejuvenation. Bioactive growth factors released from platelets are the putative agents in producing a reparative tissue reaction in the treated area. Different methods of processing the patients' blood will yield different types of platelet preparations with different components and properties, and it is important to understand these differences and their potential implications. More robust studies are necessary to better understand the nuances of these preparations and their optimal use.

Abstract
Skin resurfacing for the purpose of rejuvenation and repair continues to evolve with the development of noninvasive or minimally invasive surgical substitutes. Advances in laser therapy, microneedling, and platelet-rich plasma have reinvigorated research in wound repair and regenerative science. An overall positive clinical response toward the use of platelet-rich plasma as an adjuvant to fractional photothermolysis and percutaneous collagen induction is observed. Its effect on post-treatment adverse symptoms, erythema, edema, crusting, and clinical outcomes in rejuvenation are summarized in this article. The lack of identifiable complications and convenience of treatment provides a positive outlook for future use and investigations.
