Abstract
BACKGROUND Professional misconduct undermines safe and quality care; however, little is known about its nature and influential factors. AIM This study aimed to explain the factors influencing professional misconduct in nurses. RESEARCH DESIGN This qualitative study was conducted using the conventional content analysis method. PARTICIPANTS AND RESEARCH CONTEXT Data were collected using semi-structured interviews with 19 nurses working in the hospital selected through a purposeful method and analyzed by Graneheim and Lundman approach. ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS The ethics committee of Tehran University of Medical Sciences approved this study with the ethics code IR.TUMS.FNM.REC.1400.187. Informed consent was obtained from all participants. Participants were assured of confidentiality. FINDINGS Factors influencing professional misconduct by nurses were categorized into three main categories: human factors (nurses' professional characteristics, personal characteristics of nurses and patient/companion, patient's clinical condition), procedural factors (procedural conditions, possibility of proving misconduct), and organizational factors (recruitment process, conditions of resources, managing misconduct, bureaucracy, and ward characteristics). CONCLUSION This study assists in explaining the factors influencing professional misconduct by nurses. Therefore this study's results can help managers and planners develop interventions to prevent and correct factors that contribute to misconduct and strengthen factors that prevent misconduct in order to ensure quality and safe patient care.

Abstract
AIMS This study aimed to explore the relationship among moral distress, psychological capital, and burnout in registered nurses. ETHICAL CONSIDERATION The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the School of Nursing, Hangzhou Normal University (Approval no. 2022001). METHODS A cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted with a convenience sample of 397 nurses from three Grade-A tertiary hospitals in Zhejiang Province, China. Participants completed demographic information, the Nurses' Moral Distress Scale, the Nurses' Psychological Capital Scale, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory Scale. The data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation analysis, structural equation modeling, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. RESULTS The study found that moral distress and burnout are positively correlated, while psychological capital is negatively correlated with both moral distress and burnout. The path analysis in structural equation modeling revealed that moral distress has a significant direct effect on psychological capital, while psychological capital has a significant direct effect on burnout. In addition, moral distress also had a significant indirect effect on burnout through psychological capital. Moreover, both the direct effect of moral distress on burnout and the total effect of moral distress on burnout were significant. CONCLUSION The findings suggest that psychological capital plays an important role in the relationship between moral distress and burnout. Promoting psychological capital among nurses may be a promising strategy for preventing moral distress and burnout in the workplace.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nurse leaders have a crucial impact in healthcare settings. Hospitals require qualified nurses with leadership skills to provide healthy work environments and enhance the outcomes related to staff nurses and patients. This study aimed to investigate the effect of nursing experience on leadership skills among staff nurses and intern nursing students. METHODS A mixed methods design was applied (quantitative survey design for quantitative part and open-ended questions for qualitative part). Convenience sampling of staff nurses and intern nursing students in Saudi Arabia was applied. There were148 participants who completed the survey of the quantitative part, and 50 of them completed the qualitative part. Participants completed the Leadership Practice Inventory Questionnaire. SPSS v26 was used to analyze quantitative part, and thematic analysis was used to analyze qualitative part. RESULTS This study found a significance difference among participating groups regarding to the years of experience (F = 5.05, p = 0.00). Three themes were found for the qualitative part which were strategies to enhance leadership skills, factors affecting leadership skills, and obstacles facing participants related to leadership skills. The qualitative data also revealed that participants found that clinical supervision and education ways to enhance the leadership skills, while work pressure, work environment and communication were obstacles of developing their leadership skills. CONCLUSION Leadership skills are considered as a significant component of the function of qualified nurses and should be viewed as central to intern nursing students' learning development. Moreover, leadership skills are essential for the patient and organization outcomes. Nursing colleges and educators play an important role in enhancing to leadership skills as well as experience. Nurse leaders can create healthy care environments that have high quality and safety for patients. Management systems in healthcare organizations must motivate and support clinical leaders who can recognize both individual and clinical requirements and address current issues in their field.

Abstract
Objective This literature review evaluates the factors that affect nurses' quality of work life with the goal of enhancing their overall well-being, work experience, and creating a more supportive and satisfying work environment in the nursing field. Methods A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Electronic databases including Scopus, PubMed, SAGE Journal, and Springer were searched for scientific articles on the quality of work life among nurses. After screening and removal of duplicates, we analyzed the full text of the articles to identify potentially relevant studies for eligibility, and then we extracted data from the articles that matched. Results The search of the literature resulted in 68 articles. Only 20 articles that met all inclusion criteria were included in the systematic review after full text review. Conclusion The literature indicates that nurses' work life quality is affected by three primary factors: personal (socio-demographic), occupational, and psychological. Identifying the factors is critical to finding the right solution for improving work life quality and overcoming factors that decrease nurses' work life quality.

Abstract
AIMS This study aims to identify the level of nursing care quality and examine its predictors considering nurses' demographic data, organizational culture, and communication skills. BACKGROUND Quality of care is a determinant of the sustainability of any healthcare organization. Therefore, it is imperative to understand how factors may contribute to the quality of nursing care. Limited research is available on the interaction between the concepts of quality of nursing care, communication skills, and organizational culture. METHODS A cross-sectional multi-site correlational design was used in this study. A convenience sample of 200 nurses from four Jordanian hospitals was recruited. Data was collected using self-reported questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations, and multiple regression were performed to achieve the study's aims. RESULTS The majority of the nurses in this study were females with bachelor's degrees. Age ranged between 22 and 53 years whereas experience ranged from 1 to 30 years. Communication skills significantly predicted the quality of nursing care; however, organizational culture was not a significant predictor of the quality of nursing care. Nevertheless, Pearson r correlation results revealed a significant correlation between organizational culture and communication skills (r = 0.57, p < 0.05). CONCLUSION Nurses and organizational managers can increase the level of quality of nursing care by investing in programs that target improving nurses' communication skills. Providing a good environment in the hospital can increase communication skills between staff members, ultimately increasing the quality of nursing care. Further studies are recommended to elaborate and further uncover concerns related to the current research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Death is an integral part of neonatal intensive care units' (NICUs) environment and little it is known about NICU's staff death concepts. AIM To investigate attitudes and experiences towards death of healthcare professionals (HPs) working in NICUs. DESIGN Totally 131 participants from six hospitals were included in the study. Research instruments were a questionnaire designed by the authors and the scale Death Attitude Profile-Revised. RESULTS Gender, marital and educational status, frequent contact with end of life neonates and provision of neonatal end of life care during the research period correlated significantly with dimensions of DAP-R. Impact of NICU neonatal deaths on personal life correlated negatively with fear of death and positively with escape acceptance. CONCLUSION Evaluating the interrelationships among personal characteristics, attitudes and experiences towards death among NICU HPs may increase our understanding concerning working with dying neonates and provide direction for educational intervention and continuing professional support.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This present study was designed to explain the concept of nurses intention to care of patients with infectious diseases. METHODS This study is a deductive content analysis study that was performed from May 2022 to Jun 2022 in three hospitals in Iran. In total 21 nurses were chosen by purposive sampling and for deta collection used semi-structured interviews. Data analysis was done using Elo and Kingas method. RESULTS This study have revealed the formation of seven distinct themes, namely Job satisfaction, Professional ethics, Personal values, Standard precautions, Preserving health, Support, and Attitude of patients and their families. These themes are comprised of 17 categories and 59 subcategories. CONCLUSION By comprehending the dimensions of nurses' intentions to care for patients with infectious diseases, it is possible to develop suitable planning and strategies to meet the healthcare requirements of such patients. Managers can take action by examining the issues and demands of nurses, and by providing job security, they can establish a Healthcare service systems with high security that can effectively respond during an outbreak of infectious diseases. Additionally, Nursing managers can prevent nurses from leaving their jobs by taking appropriate intervention, increasing their motivation, and enhancing their satisfaction.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Cambodian Nursing Care Quality Scale. DESIGN Methodological design. METHODS This study was carried out in several steps: a forward-backward translation was done, face and construct validity was measured using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis and the reliability was evaluated. A convenience sampling method was employed to recruit 350 nurses from May 2021 to March 2022. RESULTS The exploratory factor analysis extracted six factors that explained 60.76% of the total variance. The six-factor model is supported by confirmatory factor analysis. The Cronbach's alpha and the intra-class correlation coefficient were 0.94 and 0.85, respectively. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION Evaluation of the quality of care can lead to the enhancement of the quality of nursing services and patient safety. This will subsequently increase the patients' and community satisfaction.

Abstract
Practices that strengthen nurse work environments and enable them to have control over nursing practices have gained importance in recent years as they increase nurses' retention and patient care quality. This study aimed to examine the relationships between structural empowerment and nurse and patient-reported outcomes and the mediating role of control over nursing practices in these relationships. This correlational and cross-sectional study was carried out from September 2018 to May 2019 at two public hospitals in Turkey. We recruited staff nurses (n = 319) working in the inpatient units of these hospitals and their patients (n = 319). Data were collected using self-report measures from staff nurses and patients. It was determined that structural empowerment and control over nursing practices had a positive relationship with job satisfaction and nursing care quality, as well as a negative relationship with intention to turnover; however, there was no relationship with patient-reported outcomes. Control over nursing practices partially mediated the relationship between structural empowerment and outcomes of job satisfaction and nursing care quality. This study indicates that promoting the structural empowerment of nurses and ensuring that they have control over practice will increase job satisfaction and quality of care. Nurse managers can increase nurses' job satisfaction and quality of care by creating supportive work environments and ensuring they have control over nursing practices.

Abstract
SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) is a tool for standardizing and improving interprofessional communication. This study aims to explore the impact of SBAR in healthcare professionals' wellbeing, through concepts such as job satisfaction, engagement, resilience, and job performance, in the internal medicine unit of a university hospital in the province of León (Spain). This is an observational, descriptive, longitudinal case study with a pre- and post-intervention approach. Questionnaires were distributed to a group of doctors, nurses, and healthcare assistants before and after the implementation of the SBAR tool in the ward. The use of SBAR was monitored to ensure staff compliance. Data statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS program. Resilience levels increased significantly post-intervention. Job satisfaction and engagement levels remained neutral, slightly decreasing post-intervention. Besides' being a useful tool to improve communication, SBAR was effective in improving resilience among staff. Several aspects related to hospital management may have had an impact on job satisfaction and engagement results.

Abstract
Among Nursing and Psychology professionals, the job satisfaction of those in Adult Inpatient Units is analyzed, with a new scale to measure nursing workloads validated. Objective: The objective of this study was to relate nursing workloads to professional job satisfaction. Methods: This is an observational, analytical, descriptive, concurrent and quantitative study, which used the Overall Job Satisfaction scale and subscales therein, to identify global satisfaction-intrinsic or related to motivational factors and extrinsic or associated with hygienic factors-in nursing professionals (n = 104) from eight Inpatient Units of Internal Medicine and Surgery, in four hospital centers, to describe job satisfaction in the professionals studied and to find statistically significant associations between job satisfaction and workload (measured with the scale MIDENF®) in the inpatient units where they work. Results: There were higher levels of satisfaction in the variables "relationship with immediate boss" and "relationship with fellow workers", and lower levels in "relationship with senior management" and "organizational system of the unit". In the inferential analysis, the scores were 75.63 for overall satisfaction, 35.28 for intrinsic satisfaction, and 40.36 for extrinsic satisfaction. Conclusions: There is a close relationship between workload and job satisfaction, showing more dissatisfaction regarding organizational aspects and professional recognition.

Abstract
Background Burnout among nursing professionals at the workplace and how it influences their decision to quit the profession is crucial to the delivery of quality health service. The shortage of nursing professionals has serious consequences on the healthcare system. Aim To examine the effect of burnout on intention to quit the profession among nursing professionals. Methods A cross-sectional study among 375 randomly selected nursing professionals in active service at a tertiary healthcare setting in Kumasi, Ghana. The Maslach Burnout Inventory was used to determine burnout, and their intention to quit the profession was assessed by asking participants whether they ever thought about quitting the profession in the past 12 months. The effect of burnout on intention to quit was analyzed using logistic regression analysis. Results The overall prevalence of burnout among participants was 2.1% (8/375) with 10.1% (38/375), 24.0% (90/375), and 56.3% (211/375) experiencing high emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and low personal accomplishment, respectively. Nearly half (49.3%, 185/375) of the participants had intention to quit the profession. Emotional exhaustion (adjusted odds tatio, AOR = 5.46; 95% CI = 2.25-13.20), depersonalisation (AOR = 1.77 95% CI = 1.07-2.95), and personal accomplishment (AOR = 2.27; 95% CI = 1.30-3.96) were associated with intention to quit the profession. Conclusion Burnout has a negative effect causing intention to quit nursing profession. It is imperative to identify strategies such as occupational health surveillance that will aim at reducing the incidence of burnout at the workplace due to its consequences, one of them being the intention to quit.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Reducing nurse turnover is a top priority for nursing management globally. While evidence has demonstrated that working in a favorable environment with greater interprofessional teamwork is essential in increasing nurse retention, few studies have explored the mechanism underlying this relationship. AIM To examine the direct and indirect effects of interprofessional teamwork on nurses' intentions to leave their jobs via the intermediary roles of job satisfaction and burnout. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted to collect data from 2113 nurses working in 21 hospitals in Oman. Data were collected using a survey questionnaire measuring teamwork, job satisfaction, burnout, and intention to leave. Logistic regression was used to investigate the direct effect of teamwork on intent to leave. A sequential mediation model was conducted to examine the mediating role of job satisfaction and burnout. RESULTS Interprofessional teamwork was directly associated with nurses' intentions to leave. The influence of teamwork on intention to leave was indirectly mediated by both job satisfaction and job burnout. CONCLUSION Findings illustrate the potential benefits of enhancing interprofessional teamwork in reducing nurses' intentions to leave. Interventions intended to foster teamwork could create satisfying workplaces, reduce perceived burnout, and ultimately contribute to organizational strategy for reducing nursing shortages.

Abstract
The concept of quality of nursing care can vary across healthcare organizations, and many different factors may affect the quality of nursing care as perceived by nurses. Measuring satisfaction with quality of nursing care from the nurse’s perspective is important as a valid and reliable indicator of care quality. The purpose of this study was to measure the psychometric properties of a researcher-developed instrument measuring nurse satisfaction with quality of care. A sample of 200 nurses was randomly selected from three different cities in Saudi Arabia and surveyed with the Nurse Satisfaction with Quality of Care Scale, which is a self-administrated five-item scale. Exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and internal consistency analysis were conducted to assess aspects of the validity and reliability of the instrument. The results of exploratory factor analysis supported a one-factor structure that consisted of the five items. Confirmatory factor analysis results confirmed that the five items were integral to nurse satisfaction with quality of care. The Cronbach internal consistency of the scale was acceptable. The scale appeared to be a reliable and valid tool for assessing nurse perceptions of their satisfaction with the quality of care provided. Additional studies to further test psychometric properties of this scale in different contexts are warranted.

Abstract
Background Nursing handovers are a critical component of patient safety. Researchers have performed many primary studies in this field, mainly reporting findings from changes in nursing handover patterns. However, few quantitative studies have explored the factors that influence handover quality. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the quality of handovers and explore the associations between handover quality, job satisfaction, and group cohesion among psychiatric nurses. Methods This cross-sectional study included 186 registered psychiatric nurses from a Chinese hospital, who responded to the Handover Evaluation Scale, McCloskey/Mueller Satisfaction Scale, and Group Cohesion Scale. Bootstrap analyses were used to evaluate the mediating effect between variables. Results The average item score for handover quality was (5.85 ± 1.14), and job satisfaction and group cohesion could predict the variance of handover quality. Job satisfaction could partially mediate between group cohesion and handover quality, and the value of the mediating effect was 45.77%. Conclusion The quality of psychiatric nursing handovers has enhanced space. Thus, hospital managers should take various measures to strengthen group cohesion and promote job satisfaction, both of which help improve the quality of psychiatric nursing handovers.

Abstract
Aims This study aims to investigate 5 types of work environment influencing nurses' caring behavior, namely (i) participation in hospital affairs, (ii) foundations for quality of care, (iii) manager ability, leadership, and support of nurses, (iv) staffing and resource adequacy, and (v) nurse-physician relations. Design This research is a cross-sectional study using the survey method. Methods Data were collected from 3,532 nurses working in public hospitals and health clinics within Sabah, Malaysia in 2015. The hypothesized model was evaluated using partial least squares method. Results The findings reveal that all forms of work environment have a positive effect on nurses' caring behavior except for staffing and resource adequacy which shows a negative effect on caring behavior. Conclusion Overall, this study has added to theoretical contributions in the academic and research fields as well as in practical implications in the field of nursing practice by addressing the influence of work environments on caring behavior. Implications for Nursing Management The present research has provided convergent evidence on the role of the working environment in influencing the behavior of nurses working in hospitals and health clinics in Sabah, Malaysia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Within residential aged care settings, reduced quality of care (QOC), abuse, and neglect have been global phenomena which require urgent intervention. As the reported rate of these problems is much higher in aged care compared to hospital settings, we investigated whether differing job design characteristics between the two settings might explain the difference. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS We used a meta-analysis to compare differences in the relationships between high job demands, low job resources, and job strain with QOC and counter-productive work behaviors (CWBs) across aged care and hospital settings. RESULTS Data was extracted from 42 studies (n=55 effects). QOC was negatively correlated with high job demands (ρ̅ =-.22, 95% CI: -.29:-.15, k=7), low job resources (ρ̅ = -.40, 95% CI:-.47:-.32, k=15), and job strain (ρ̅ =-.32, 95% CI: -.38:.-.25, k=22), CWBs had a positive relationship with job demands (ρ̅ =.35, 95%CI: .10:.59, k=3) and job strain (ρ̅ =.34, 95% CI: .13:.56, k=6). The association between poor QOC and low job resources was stronger in aged care (r=-.46, 95% CI:-.55:-36, k=8) than in hospital settings (r= -.30, 95% CI:-.41:-.18, k=7). DISCUSSION AND IMPLICATIONS Our findings suggest that relationships between low job resources and poor quality of care are exacerbated in residential aged care contexts. To improve care outcomes, stakeholders should improve job resources such as skill discretion, supervisory supports, and increased training and staffing levels in residential aged care.

Abstract
Nurses experience high levels of burnout, and this has become a major factor in recruitment and retention of nurses. Several factors have been associated with burnout, but it is not clear which factors are the most significant predictors. Understanding the most prevalent factors that are associated with burnout will allow for the development and implementation of interventions to ameliorate and/or reduce burnout in the nursing workforce.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine the factors related to organizational attractiveness (OA), a concept originating in the strategy of employer branding. Previous research on OA has predominantly adopted the perspective of external applicants. In contrast, the present study takes the perspective of internal and current employees, extending further the scope of studies on OA.
Design/methodology/approach
Quantitative data were collected from a survey consisting of a sample of 164 nurses, all employees of public hospitals. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling were used to analyze the data. Furthermore, the indirect effects were tested by mediator analysis.
Findings
Interdepartmental collaboration climate, management support and service quality of care were shown to have a positive effect on OA, with the three factors explaining 45% (R2 = 0.45) of OA. The relationship between management support and OA was found to be mediated through the interdepartmental collaboration climate, and that between the interdepartmental collaboration climate and OA was found to be mediated through the service quality of care.
Originality/value
This study contributes to an understanding of OA from a current employee perspective. Specifically, it reveals how the three factors of interdepartmental collaboration climate, management support and service quality of care influence and shape the perception of current employees (nurses) toward the attractiveness of their organization.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to describe changes in performance indicators such as length of stay [LOS] in the intensive care unit [ICU] and ventilation time, during the last six years in an attempt to identify associations between patient and systemic performance indicators, including the impact of nurse turnover. DESIGN A retrospective study of prospectively registered data (2013-2018). Propensity- score matching was performed to establish comparable groups. SETTING Three Danish university hospitals. PARTICIPANTS The study included a total of 12,404 adult cardiac surgical patients registered in the Western Denmark Heart Registry. The cohort was divided into an "early" group (2013-2016) and a "late" group (2017-2018). INTERVENTIONS An analysis of dynamics in patient indicators and systemic performance indicators, including the impact from selected performance parameters and nurse turnover. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS Comorbidity, calculated from the European System for Cardiac Operative Risk Evaluation, and the mean age were stable in the study period. Strong predictors of long LOS in the ICU included postoperative use of inotropes, re-exploration surgery, high postoperative drainage, and the "late" time group. Time parameters (relative risks) were all significantly longer in the "late" time group": ventilation time 1.21 (1.05-1.39), length of stay ICU 1.28 (1.11-1.48), and in-hospital time 1.36 (1.19-1.57). ICU nurse turnover increased from four (2013-2014) to 52 (2017-2018). CONCLUSION No single patient factor, such as age or comorbidity, could explain the decrease in patient turnover in the ICU. In the same period, the turnover of ICU nurses increased. Patient turnover is complex and affected by a mix of patient and systemic performance factors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As an important organisational feature, the nurse work environment has been associated with increased work effectiveness, reduced patient safety issues and improved care quality. However, the mechanism underlying this association remains unexplored. AIM This study aims to assess the mediating role of interprofessional collaboration in the relationships between nurse work environment, select patient safety outcomes and job satisfaction. METHODS This cross-sectional, descriptive study used five standardized scales and included 881 clinical nurses employed in select teaching hospitals in Oman. RESULTS Nurses who worked in teaching hospitals in Oman perceived their work environment as highly favourable. Nurse work environment was directly and indirectly associated with nurse-assessed quality of care, adverse patient events and job satisfaction, through interprofessional collaborations. CONCLUSION Findings of the study suggest that enhancing nurse work environments can be a potential strategy to foster interprofessional collaboration and improve job satisfaction and patient safety outcomes. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT Organisational strategies to improve patient safety outcomes and job satisfaction in nurses can be facilitated by improving nurses' work conditions and enhancing interprofessional collaboration through supportive leadership, theory-driven approaches, obtaining hospital accreditation/certification and relevant workplace policies.

Abstract
Adverse psychosocial working conditions in the health care sector are widespread and have been associated with a reduced quality of patient care. Medical assistants (MA) assume that their unfavorable working conditions predominantly lead to a poorer quality of care in terms of slips and lapses, and poorer social interactions with patients. We examined those associations for the first time among MAs. A total of 944 MAs in Germany participated in a survey (September 2016–April 2017). Psychosocial working conditions were measured by the effort-reward imbalance (ERI) questionnaire and a questionnaire specifically designed for MAs. Slips and lapses (3 items, e.g., measurement or documentation errors) and the quality of interactions (3 items) with patients were measured by a questionnaire developed by the study team based on prior qualitative research. We ran Poisson regression to estimate multivariable prevalence ratios (PRs). The ERI ratio and MA-specific working conditions were significantly associated with frequent self-reported slips and lapses (PR = 2.53 and PR ≥ 1.22, respectively) or poor interactions with patients (PR = 3.62 and PR ≥ 1.38, respectively) due to work stress. Our study suggests that various types of adverse psychosocial working conditions are associated with perceptions of slips and lapses or poorer interaction with patients due to work stress among MAs.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to investigate predictors of nurse-reported quality of care (NQoC) in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) in Korea. DESIGN AND METHODS The study participants were 217 NICU nurses working in four tertiary general hospitals and three general hospitals across South Korea. Data were collected in February 2019, when a survey was performed to measure nurse-related characteristics, intent to leave, job satisfaction, and NQoC. Collected data were analyzed using t-test, chi-square test, and hierarchical logistic regression on the SPSS WIN 26.0 program. RESULTS Approximately 53% of NICU nurses perceived good quality of care. NICU work experience of less than 2 years and 2 to 4 years were associated with increased odds of good NQoC in all regression models. Perceived adequacy of nurse staffing level was significantly associated with increased odds of good NQoC in model 2 (OR 4.90, 95% CI: 1.75-13.70), model 3 (OR 5.01, 95% CI: 1.73-14.50), and model 4 (OR 3.96, 95% CI: 1.29-12.12). Moreover, in model 3, intent to leave was associated with decreased odds of good NQoC (OR 0.83, 95% CI: 0.21-0.71), and job satisfaction was associated with increased odds of good NQoC (OR 5.41, 95% CI: 2.74-10.67) in model 4. CONCLUSIONS Nurses' NICU work experience, adequate nurse staffing level, no intent to leave, and job satisfaction were predictors of good NQoC among NICU nurses. PRACTICE IMPLICATION Improvement of nurse staffing levels and job satisfaction is a promising strategy to achieve good quality of care in NICUs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Healthcare systems have widely adopted consecutive 12 h day and night shifts for nurses, but the effects of these shifts on cognition, sleepiness, and nursing performance remains understudied. OBJECTIVE To determine the extent of changes in cognition and sleepiness in nurses working three consecutive 12 h shifts, quantify the respective impacts of these changes on different aspects of nursing performance, and investigate individual differences in all measures. DESIGN A quasi-experimental, between-within design collected data from nurses between November 2018 and March 2020. The between-groups component was comprised of day shift nurses vs. night shift nurses, while the within-groups component was comprised of two separate test sessions for each nurse: one immediately following a third consecutive shift (fatigued) and one after three consecutive days off work (rested). SETTING Participants were tested in a northwestern US university's nursing simulation laboratory. PARTICIPANTS A volunteer sample of 94 registered nurses involved in direct patient care working 12 h shifts were recruited from two local hospitals. METHODS Simulated nursing performance was measured in seven separate domains and an aggregate score from the Creighton Competence and Evaluation Inventory, covering both lower- and higher-level constructs like procedural skills, assessment, decision-making, etc. Cognition and sleepiness were assessed through measures of sustained attention, predicted cognitive effectiveness, and subjective sleepiness. RESULTS In our 94 nurses, individual differences in all our measures varied from trivial to extensive. For six domains of performance and the aggregate score there were no significant differences in means across groups or conditions. For the seventh, Communication skills were lower for night nurses than day nurses, but this effect was small. After three consecutive shifts, sustained attention and predicted cognitive effectiveness decreased, and subjective sleepiness increased. Predicted cognitive effectiveness was particularly low for fatigued night nurses relative to other conditions and was positively correlated with Communication while controlling for other predictors. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE Nurses maintained their levels of performance for all domains after three consecutive shifts. Individual differences in predicted cognitive effectiveness could account for variation in performance by shift type for Communication skills but for no other domain of performance. Communication skills and predicted cognitive effectiveness may interest researchers in the development of fatigue-mitigation strategies for night nurses, but our findings also suggest that more sensitive measures of performance may be necessary to capture other meaningful effects of long, consecutive shifts-if any-on patient care. Abstract
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The present study was aimed at describing the status of job burnout and exploring the mediating roles of psychological capital and professional identity on the association between organisational justice and job burnout. BACKGROUND With the shortage of nurses all over the world, nurses' job burnout has become the focus of studies in recent years. However, limited published research has examined the mediating roles of psychological capital and professional identity on the association between organisational justice and job burnout within hospital contexts in China. DESIGN A cross-sectional design. METHODS A total of 1,009 nurses were enrolled from a major general hospital located in Qiqihar City in the northeast of China from March-July 2018, and asked to complete questionnaires regarding organisational justice, psychological capital, professional identity and job burnout. The STROBE checklist was adhered to in this study. RESULTS It was observed that the overall proportion of nurses with job burnout was 58.8%. All the correlations among organisational justice, psychological capital, professional identity and job burnout were statistically significant, with coefficients ranging between -0.487-0.863. Psychological capital and professional identity had indirect effects equal to -0.072 and -0.142, respectively, on the association between organisational justice and job burnout, taking up 13.7% and 26.9% of the total effect, respectively. The serial indirect effect of psychological capital and professional identity was -0.129, accounting for 24.5% of the total effect. CONCLUSIONS This study showed the necessity of addressing the status of job burnout among Chinese nurses. Psychological capital and professional identity may mediate the linkage between organisational justice and job burnout independently and accumulatively. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE Nursing managers should strengthen organisational justice and improve the psychological capital and professional identity of nurses through effective strategies to prevent the job burnout of nurses.

Abstract
WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: The shortage of psychiatric nurses has become a focus problem attracting widespread concern. And the continuous improvement of quality of psychiatric care has always been a priority in psychiatric units. Previous studies about nurses from general hospitals indicated nursing work environment was a key factor affecting work-related outcomes, but little attention was paid to psychiatric nurses and few studies focused on the five specific dimensions of nursing work environment. WHAT THE PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: Nurse participation in hospital affairs was the dimension with the highest proportion of participants dissatisfied. Nursing work environment and all its five dimensions had significant effects on work-related outcomes, which were partly mediated by work engagement. For nurse-perceived quality of care, collegial nurse-physician relations showed the largest effect; while for turnover intention, the two dimensions of nurse participation in hospital affairs and nursing foundations for quality of care showed larger effects. WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE?: Corresponding measures should be taken to improve nursing work environment, especially in the aspect of nurse participation in hospital affairs by promoting nurses' ability to participate, arousing their motivation to participate and offering them more opportunities to participate. Harmonious collegial relationship should be built by creating an atmosphere of equality, respect and collaboration, and enhancing the communication between doctors and nurses. Nursing foundations for quality of care need to be further improved through setting appropriate rules and regulations to ensure the quality of care and offering more opportunities to support nursing staff's growth and development. ABSTRACT: Introduction With the increasing demand for high-quality psychiatric care, it is imperative to improve psychiatric nurses' work engagement and work-related outcomes. Nursing work environment has been identified as a protective factor in non-psychiatric nurses, but little was known about psychiatric nurses. Aims To identify the situation of nursing work environment, work engagement, nurse-perceived quality of care and turnover intention among psychiatric nurses, and examine the relationship among them. Methods A cross-sectional design was adopted. Questionnaire investigation was implemented among psychiatric nurses from 43 clinical units. Structural equation modelling and path analysis were used to examine the causal relationship among variables. Results The results showed 19.06% of participants were not satisfied with the overall work environment and 24.34% were not satisfied with the dimension of nurse participation in hospital affairs. Hypothesis testing results indicated that nursing work environment and its five dimensions had positive effects on nurse-perceived quality of care and negative effects on turnover intention, which were both partly mediated by work engagement. Discussion Supportive nursing work environment could improve nurses' work engagement, enhance nurse-perceived quality of care and reduce nurses' turnover intention. Implications for Practice Continuous efforts should be paid to the improvement of nursing work environment in psychiatric hospitals.

Abstract
AIMS To ascertain how professional turnover intention impacts nurse-assessed care outcomes, including patient-centered care and care quality. BACKGROUND Patient-centered care and care quality are critical to care outcomes. However, we do not know whether care outcomes would be improved by reducing nurses' professional turnover intention. DESIGN We implemented a two-wave correlational follow-up design. METHODS This study was conducted in a large-scale general in Taiwan during January and February 2018, and January and February 2019. We successfully obtained responses from 448 nurses in 2018 and subsequently followed up (in 2019). Most were women (97.5%), reflecting the profile of the local nurse population. Structural equation modeling was used to test hypotheses. RESULTS Our findings indicate that nurses' professional turnover intention is negatively related to nurse-assessed, patient-centered care. Nurses' professional turnover intention is also negatively related to all the five perceptions of nurse-assessed care quality: that is, assurance, reliability, responsiveness, empathy, and tangibles. Moreover, years of working as a nurse is also positively related to nurse-assessed, patient-centered care and all the five perceptions of nurse-assessed care quality. CONCLUSION This study examined nurses' professional turnover intention as an antecedent of nurse-assessed, patient-centered care and care quality. Our study shows that professional turnover intention may predict care outcomes. Overall, our study suggests that professional turnover intention not only impacts workforce stability but also impacts health-care outcomes. IMPACT Our findings suggest that reduction of nurses' turnover intentions could benefit care outcomes. Hospital managers should know that nurses' turnover negatively impacts care outcomes.

Abstract
PURPOSE To determine the structural relationships among nurses' occupational burnout, job stress, psychological capital, and perceived support from society. DESIGN A cross-sectional design was performed to collect data from 766 registered nurses in three general tertiary Class A hospitals from March to August 2018. METHODS Structural equation modeling was performed to examine the proposed model. FINDINGS The research data supported the proposed model. Psychological capital, job stress, and perceived social support significantly influenced occupational burnout. Job stress indirectly influenced burnout through perceived social support and psychological capital. The influencing factors accounted for 49% of the variance in explaining burnout. CONCLUSIONS The findings identified structural relationships among the four studied variables. This study provides new information regarding the preventive role of perceived social support and psychological capital, which perform the mediating role between job stress and occupational burnout. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Nursing administrators should provide a healthy work environment, effective psychological capital training, and assistance to reduce nurses' occupational burnout.

Abstract
Aim To develop and evaluate psychometric property of quality nursing care scale (QNCS) from nurses’ perspective in the Chinese context. Design A cross‐sectional survey design. Methods This study was conducted in two phases. In Phase I, literature review and interviews were conducted to develop the items. In Phase II, content validity was evaluated by five experts. Construct validity was tested through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) among 302 nurses and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) among 510 nurses from October 2014 to January 2015. Additionally, internal consistency reliability was tested. Results The EFA extracted six factors including staff characteristics, task‐oriented activities, human‐oriented activities, physical environment, patient outcomes and precondition. All six factors accounted for 74.78% of the total variance to explain quality nursing care. The modified measurement model of the final version of QNCS was supported by the CFA with 48 items in six dimensions. The internal consistency reliability of final QNCS was acceptable.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Providing quality and safe nursing care is considered the cornerstone of the healthcare system globally. However, there are no comprehensive evaluation indicators of nursing students' quality and safety competencies in China. AIM To develop the evaluation indicators and achieve experts' consensus on bachelor nursing students' quality and safety competencies at their graduation. METHODS Based on the framework of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's Quality and Safety Education for Nurses, literature review, semi-structured interview, and e-Delphi technique, the evaluation indicators were developed and obtained consensus through the participation of 22 nursing educational experts from August 2016 to May 2017. RESULTS The evaluation indicators consisted of six domains, including safety care, patient-center care, collaboration and teamwork, continuous quality improvement, informatics, and evidence-based practice competencies, and 88 indicators. These indicators obtained ≥76% consensus on the experts' judgments. CONCLUSIONS The evaluation indicators achieved the consensus on a panel of nursing experts, which were scientific and practicable. It could provide guidance for establishing a nursing curriculum to prepare bachelor nursing students' quality and safety competencies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Achieving high-quality care and retention of nurses are major concerns for nurse leaders in hospitals. The organisational context is theorised to influence the quality of care and patient and nurse outcomes. This review focuses on China where the healthcare system is different from most Western countries in terms of government healthcare expenditure, public health insurance and healthcare delivery system. OBJECTIVES To explore the organisational context of nursing practice in hospitals in China and its relationship with quality of care, patient outcomes (patient adverse events, safety and satisfaction) and nurse outcomes (burnout, job satisfaction and intention to leave). DESIGN A mixed-methods review. DATA SOURCES The electronic databases PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO and China Academic Journals Database were used. METHODS This review was conducted using the SALSA (Search, Appraisal, Synthesis and Analysis) framework. Quality assessment was conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal checklists for cross-sectional studies and qualitative research. A narrative synthesis was conducted and was supported by tabulation of study data. The PRISMA guidelines were used for this review. RESULTS Twenty-three articles met the inclusion criteria and were retrieved, analysed and synthesised. This review supports the link between organisational context, quality of care, and patient and nurse outcomes in the Chinese healthcare system. Aspects of organisational context warrant attention including nurse staffing levels, the shortage of nurses, a lack of nurse participation in hospital affairs and support for the professional development of nurses. CONCLUSIONS The findings suggest that tailored interventions are needed to improve the organisational context of nursing practice in Chinese hospitals and, in particular, to address the nurse workforce issues and organisational leadership and support. The unique policy context of the Chinese healthcare system should be considered when developing these interventions. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE Recognising the importance of the organisational context, it is imperative that nurse leaders make every effort to legislate for safe nurse staffing and to establish a caring culture to improve quality of care and nurse and patient outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of the study was to examine the level of patient satisfaction with nursing care and identify the factors affecting satisfaction from the inpatient's perspective in a backward region of China. DESIGN This was a cross-sectional study. SETTING The study was conducted at a tertiary hospital located in northwest China. PARTICIPANTS Patients admitted to the ward for at least 48 hours were chosen to participate in the survey. PRIMARY OUTCOME MEASURE The Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Care Scale was used. Data were collected from 219 patients. RESULTS The overall inpatient satisfaction with nursing care was 78.15±4.74. Patients were more satisfied with nurses who respected their privacy and treated them as individuals (67.7%). Patients were least satisfied with the type of information nurses gave them (11.7%) and with the sufficient awareness of their needs. Patients who were married, had a history of hospitalisation, surgery and were taken charge of by junior nurses had higher satisfaction. CONCLUSIONS The overall level of patient satisfaction was moderate. Patient-centred individualised care and providing sufficient information model of care are needed. There was a need for nurses to be aware of patients' individualised care needs and to provide them with more information. This study may suggest/urge hospital administrators, policymakers and nurses to be more sensitive with patients' married status, history of hospitalisation and surgery, the professional title of in charged nurses when care is provided. Ultimately to achieve better outcome of patients' hospitalisation.

Abstract
Acute psychiatric nurses experience workplace stressors related to organizational factors including staffing shortages, along with interpersonal conflict with patients and colleagues. The pilot study examined the experience of burnout among acute care psychiatric nurses and the usefulness of a social work lead mindfulness-based intervention for reducing burnout elements. Findings indicated participants experienced emotional exhaustion associated with their work, but also a significant degree of personal accomplishment. Nurses identified the intervention as having the potential to promote better emotional regulation in the workplace and beyond. Social worker education on mindfulness techniques may represent an untapped resource for improving the emotional wellness and effective patient care.

Human Resource Management for Ghanaian Nurses: Job Satisfaction Versus Turnover Intentions. SUSTAINABILITY 2020. Abstract
The study has the aim of exploring the determinants of turnover intentions and job satisfaction of nurses. A survey of 163 nurses from two public and two private hospitals in the capital of Ghana, Accra, who completed a questionnaire in English, was conducted. The study uses SEM analysis to evaluate the goodness-of-fit of the model and to test hypotheses. Regarding the findings, pay rise, pay structure/administration and job satisfaction were significantly and negatively related to turnover intentions. However, the effect of benefits on turnover intentions was nonsignificant and was negatively associated with turnover intentions. The antecedents of nurses’ job satisfaction, all the constructs, i.e., pay level, pay rise, benefits, and pay structure/administration, had positive and statistically significant impacts. The influence of pay level, pay structure/administration and pay rise had the most important effect on nurses’ job satisfaction. In addition, the age status as a control variable had negative and significant effects on turnover intentions. However, gender status as a control effect had a nonsignificant impact on turnover intentions. It is recommended that the government of Ghana, the Ministry of Health, and the Ghana Health Service must institute measures such as the provision of competitive salaries and a quality work environment to entice nurses to stay in order to reduce the exodus of nurses outside the shores of Ghana. One limitation of this study is that there are other factors that could cause employees to quit their jobs, such as employee commitment, engagement, and leadership behaviours but these variables were not tested. Therefore, future studies must control these variables in studies regarding pay satisfaction and turnover intentions.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Burnout, intention to leave and ultimately shortage of skilled nurses are associated with poor practice environments; however, in Iran comprehensive data are unavailable. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between the nursing professional practice environment with nurses' burnout and intention to leave in intensive care units, using structural equation modelling analysis. METHODS This cross-sectional, multi-centred study was conducted among 320 nurses in twenty ICUs of five teaching hospitals affiliated with Shiraz University of Medical Sciences from September 2018 to June 2019. Valid measurement instruments including Nursing Professional Practice Environment Questionnaire (NPPEQ), Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and Anticipated Turnover Scale (ATS) were used for data collection. RESULTS Goodness-of-fit statistics confirmed a model with burnout dimensions in mediating positions between nursing professional practice environment dimensions and intention to leave, explaining 86.4% of the variation. CONCLUSION The results confirmed a theoretical model with structural the relationships among the nursing professional practice environment, burnout and intention to leave in nurses working in ICUs. In this model, burnout had a strong direct positive effect on intention to leave. The results can provide guidance for various stakeholders, such as health policymakers and nurse managers attempting to improve the quality of nurses' workplace, by drawing their attention to various factors influencing the retention of technically trained nurses in the critical care units.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Workforce studies often identify burnout as a nursing 'outcome'. Yet, burnout itself-what constitutes it, what factors contribute to its development, and what the wider consequences are for individuals, organisations, or their patients-is rarely made explicit. We aimed to provide a comprehensive summary of research that examines theorised relationships between burnout and other variables, in order to determine what is known (and not known) about the causes and consequences of burnout in nursing, and how this relates to theories of burnout. METHODS We searched MEDLINE, CINAHL, and PsycINFO. We included quantitative primary empirical studies (published in English) which examined associations between burnout and work-related factors in the nursing workforce. RESULTS Ninety-one papers were identified. The majority (n = 87) were cross-sectional studies; 39 studies used all three subscales of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) Scale to measure burnout. As hypothesised by Maslach, we identified high workload, value incongruence, low control over the job, low decision latitude, poor social climate/social support, and low rewards as predictors of burnout. Maslach suggested that turnover, sickness absence, and general health were effects of burnout; however, we identified relationships only with general health and sickness absence. Other factors that were classified as predictors of burnout in the nursing literature were low/inadequate nurse staffing levels, ≥ 12-h shifts, low schedule flexibility, time pressure, high job and psychological demands, low task variety, role conflict, low autonomy, negative nurse-physician relationship, poor supervisor/leader support, poor leadership, negative team relationship, and job insecurity. Among the outcomes of burnout, we found reduced job performance, poor quality of care, poor patient safety, adverse events, patient negative experience, medication errors, infections, patient falls, and intention to leave. CONCLUSIONS The patterns identified by these studies consistently show that adverse job characteristics-high workload, low staffing levels, long shifts, and low control-are associated with burnout in nursing. The potential consequences for staff and patients are severe. The literature on burnout in nursing partly supports Maslach's theory, but some areas are insufficiently tested, in particular, the association between burnout and turnover, and relationships were found for some MBI dimensions only.

Abstract
Objective: to verify the relationship between the socio-demographic and work profile of
the nursing professionals and the patient safety climate in a public
emergency hospital. Method: a cross-sectional study carried out with 177 nursing professionals from a
public emergency hospital. For data collection, the Safety Attitudes
Questionnaire - Short Form 2006 was used, validated and cross-culturally
adapted to the Portuguese language. To check the factors related to the
instrument’s domains, bivariate and multivariate analyses were
performed. Results: working in the medical and surgical clinic or emergency room, on a night
shift, and having the intention to leave nursing, reduced the general safety
climate in the multiple regression analysis. The younger professionals, with
less than four years in the institution, and those who worked in the night
shift had a lower safety climate related to the perception of the
management. On the other hand, having a work contract with a hired worker
improved the general safety climate and workplace satisfaction. Conclusion: identifying predictors on patient safety scores is an important management
tool that allows diagnosing, planning and executing activities from the
domains that need to be improved.

Abstract
AIM We aimed to test a model examining the direct and indirect effects of the work environment on workplace violence, nurse burnout and work attitudes of Chinese hospital nurses. BACKGROUND Work environment is a key factor related to nurses' work attitudes. There has been limited information about how the work environment influences nurses' work attitudes. METHOD This was a cross-sectional study that included 1,517 hospital nurses in 111 medical/surgical units in 23 hospitals from Guangdong province, China. Structural equation modelling was used to test a hypothesized model that supposed work environment has both direct and indirect effects on work attitudes (e.g. job satisfaction and intention to leave) through workplace violence and nurse burnout. RESULTS Better work environment was related to higher job satisfaction and lower intention to leave both directly and indirectly through two mediators: workplace violence and burnout. Burnout mediated the association of workplace violence with job satisfaction and intention to leave. CONCLUSIONS Improving work environment would promote nurse safety and subsequently contribute to stabilize the nurse workforce. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT To help nurses achieve safety and improved work attitudes, nurse managers should build a positive work environment and help nurses who have experienced workplace violence relieve their burnout.

Abstract
Although nurses work in stressful environments, stressors in such environments have yet to be clearly assessed. This study aimed to develop a Nurses’ Occupational Stressor Scale (NOSS) with high reliability and validity. Candidate questions for the NOSS were generated by expert consensus following focus group feedback, and were used to survey in 2013. A shorter version was then developed after examination for validity and reproducibility in 2014. The accuracy of the short version of the NOSS for predicting nurses’ stress levels was evaluated based on receiver operating characteristic curves to compare existing instruments for measuring stress outcomes, namely personal burnout, client-related burnout, job dissatisfaction, and intention to leave. Examination for validity and reproducibility yielded a shorter version of NOSS with only 21 items was considered sufficient for measuring stressors in nurses’ work environments. Nine subscales were included: (1) work demands, (2) work–family conflict, (3) insufficient support from coworkers or caregivers, (4) workplace violence and bullying, (5) organizational issues, (6) occupational hazards, (7) difficulty taking leave, (8) powerlessness, and (9) unmet basic physiological needs. The 21-item NOSS proved to have high concurrent and construct validity. The correlation coefficients of the subscales for test-retest reliability ranged from 0.71 to 0.83. The internal consistency (Cronbach’s α) coefficients ranged from 0.35 to 0.77. The NOSS exhibited accurate prediction of personal burnout, client-related burnout, job dissatisfaction, and intention to leave.

Abstract
Primary care providers (PCPs) in the United States work in challenging environments and may be at risk for burnout. This article identifies the predictors and outcomes of burnout among PCPs in the United States. A comprehensive literature search of eight databases was conducted to identify studies investigating predictors or outcomes of PCP burnout. The Joanna Briggs Institute's critical appraisal checklists for cross-sectional and cohort studies were used for quality appraisal. Overall, 21 studies met inclusion criteria, had sufficient quality, reported personal and/or organizational predictors of burnout, and described burnout outcomes at the patient, provider, or organizational level. Prevalence of PCP burnout ranged from 13.5% to 60%. The primary care practice environment was the most common predictor of PCP burnout. In conclusion, developing interventions to improve the practice environment may help reduce PCP burnout. Future studies using robust study designs and standardized instruments to consistently measure burnout are needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Whether health care provider burnout contributes to lower quality of patient care is unclear. PURPOSE To estimate the overall relationship between burnout and quality of care and to evaluate whether published studies provide exaggerated estimates of this relationship. DATA SOURCES MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Health and Psychosocial Instruments (EBSCO), Mental Measurements Yearbook (EBSCO), EMBASE (Elsevier), and Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics), with no language restrictions, from inception through 28 May 2019. STUDY SELECTION Peer-reviewed publications, in any language, quantifying health care provider burnout in relation to quality of patient care. DATA EXTRACTION 2 reviewers independently selected studies, extracted measures of association of burnout and quality of care, and assessed potential bias by using the Ioannidis (excess significance) and Egger (small-study effect) tests. DATA SYNTHESIS A total of 11 703 citations were identified, from which 123 publications with 142 study populations encompassing 241 553 health care providers were selected. Quality-of-care outcomes were grouped into 5 categories: best practices (n = 14), communication (n = 5), medical errors (n = 32), patient outcomes (n = 17), and quality and safety (n = 74). Relations between burnout and quality of care were highly heterogeneous (I2 = 93.4% to 98.8%). Of 114 unique burnout-quality combinations, 58 indicated burnout related to poor-quality care, 6 indicated burnout related to high-quality care, and 50 showed no significant effect. Excess significance was apparent (73% of studies observed vs. 62% predicted to have statistically significant results; P = 0.011). This indicator of potential bias was most prominent for the least-rigorous quality measures of best practices and quality and safety. LIMITATION Studies were primarily observational; neither causality nor directionality could be determined. CONCLUSION Burnout in health care professionals frequently is associated with poor-quality care in the published literature. The true effect size may be smaller than reported. Abstract
Cambodia, like many other countries, is working to raise nursing care standards, including improving nurse work environments and nurse education. This descriptive, cross-sectional study examined the factors influencing nursing care quality among 375 registered nurses from 12 government hospitals in Cambodia. The conceptual framework was modified from the Nurse Work Environment, Nurse Staffing, and Outcome Model, and five questionnaires were used. The hypothesized model fitted the empirical data and explained 12% of the variance in nursing care quality. Structural equation modeling revealed that nurse work satisfaction negatively affected nursing care quality, while the nurse practice environment and burnout had no effect. Nurse staffing had a positive direct effect on nurse work satisfaction, while nurse work satisfaction did not directly affect burnout. The results indicate that the highest impacting factors influencing nursing care quality were nurse work satisfaction and the indirect effect of nurse staffing on nursing care quality. Therefore, leaders and policymakers in government, health systems, and nursing across the country need to consider these results to enhance nursing care quality.

Abstract
AIMS To establish a model and identify structural relationships between Chinese nurses' perceived social support, self-efficacy, work stress and burnout. BACKGROUND The prevalence of burnout among nurses tends to be high worldwide. A better understanding of relationships between the study variables can help hospital managers apply effective programmes to reduce burnout. However, no studies have identified the structural relationships between these variables in one model, simultaneously. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional survey to complete questionnaires from 444 nurses working in three Chinese general tertiary hospitals. The proposed model was examined by structural equation modelling. RESULTS The proposed model was partially supported by empirical data. The total effect of work stress on burnout was large. Both work stress and the perceived social support moderately and directly affected burnout. Work stress also indirectly affected burnout through perceived social support. Work stress directly influenced perceived social support and self-efficacy. Perceived social support directly affected self-efficacy. However, self-efficacy did not directly influence burnout. CONCLUSIONS This study validated a model and identified a deep understanding of structural relationships between the selected variables among Chinese nurses. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT Apart from reducing work stressors, hospital managers should utilize more social support strategies when designing intervention programmes to reduce burnout.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A thorough handover in the emergency department (ED) is of great importance for improving the quality and safety in the chain of care. The satisfaction of handover may reflect the quality of handover. Research to discover the variables influencing the satisfaction of handovers is scarce. The goal of this study was to determine the factors influencing the satisfaction regarding handovers from ambulance and ED nurses. METHODS We performed a prospective observational study in the University Medical Center of Groningen. Data regarding prehospital-hospital handovers has been collected by observing handovers and assessing patient chart information. Data regarding the satisfaction has been collected with a questionnaire including a 5-point scale for the level of satisfaction. RESULTS In total, 97 handovers were observed and 97 ambulance nurses and 89 ED nurses completed the questionnaire. The satisfaction of ambulance nurses showed a negative correlation with the waiting time prior to handover (r = -.287, p = .004) and a positive correlation with the presence of a physician in the receiving team (r = .224, p = .028). The satisfaction of ED nurses showed a positive correlation with the use of the ABCDE (r = .288, p = .006) and AMPLE instrument (r = .208, p = .050). CONCLUSION The satisfaction of ambulance and ED nurses as sender or receiver of the handover is determined by different factors. The satisfaction of ambulance nurses is mainly affected by the waiting time and presence of a physician, while the satisfaction of ED nurses is affected by the use of handover instruments and the completeness of medical information.
