Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), also known as chronic diseases, now constitute a major proportion of ill-health across most adult and older populations including in people with intellectual disability. The current paper is a comparative analysis of prevalence of NCDs across mid-aged and older-aged people with mild intellectual disability. METHOD Comparative data comes from two cross-sectional surveys using similar methodology and timeframes. The analysis sample comprises mid-aged group (30-50 years, N = 291) and older-aged group (≥60 years, N = 391). RESULTS People with mild intellectual disability start developing NCDs in early to mid-adulthood and increases with age. The mean number of NCDs in mid-aged group was 0.86 (SD, 0.84) compared to 3.82 in older group (SD, 2.67). CONCLUSION There needs to be early identification and management of NCDs using relevant health promotion and preventative measures at optimal intervention points. The training of healthcare professionals needs improvement.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies have found that presence of challenging behaviours and mental health problems limits employment for people with intellectual disabilities. This study investigates the associations between age, gender, living condition, level of intellectual disability, diagnoses, behaviour, mental health, and employment in adults with intellectual disabilities in Norway. METHOD A cross-sectional community-based survey including 214 adult participants (56% men) with intellectual disabilities. RESULTS In our sample, 25% had no organised day activity, 27% attended non-work day care, 19% attended sheltered employment, or day care with production, without pay and 29% worked in paid sheltered employment. One participant attended mainstream employment. Moderate and severe/profound level of intellectual disability, possible organic condition and irritability significantly reduced the odds of employment (paid and unpaid). CONCLUSION Findings suggest unequal access to the sheltered employment that was meant to be inclusive. More individualised evaluation of prerequisites is suggested to further facilitate employment for this group.

Abstract
The inactivity of people with intellectual disabilities (PwID) is a major contributor to ill health. Probably because people with intellectual disabilities are not adequately informed about physical activity and intervention programs required to enhance their fitness. This study critically reviewed physical activity: benefits and needs for maintenance of quality of life among adults with intellectual disability. An extensive search of bibliographic databases such as PubMed, PsycINFO, BioMed Central and Medline identified 735 academic papers. The research rigour was evaluated, and the validity of the findings was established. Based on the inclusion criteria, 15 studies were included in the review. Various forms of physical activity were studied as interventions. The results of a critical review indicate that physical activity has a moderate to strong positive impact on weight loss, sedentary behaviour, and disability-related quality of life. Adults with ID may benefit from physical activity as a non-pharmaceutical method of improving their health needs. However, this study's results may only apply to some adults with intellectual disabilities. The sample size needs to be increased in future studies in order to draw generalizable conclusions.

Abstract
LAY ABSTRACT Multimorbidity relates to having multiple chronic health conditions. It is a risk factor for poor health and reduces life expectancy. Autistic people have multiple chronic health conditions and die prematurely, especially if they have an intellectual disability (autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability). Certain pathophysiological processes observed in autism spectrum disorder are common to those related to the genesis and/or maintenance of multimorbidity. Furthermore, multimorbidity could be helpful in better identifying patient subgroups in autism spectrum disorder. It is therefore essential to better characterize multimorbidity and its consequences in the subgroup of autism spectrum disorder + intellectual disability individuals to offer them personalized care. We conducted a preliminary study of 63 autism spectrum disorder + intellectual disability adults to classify them according to their multimorbidity and search for a specific combination of chronic health conditions. We observed high and early multimorbidity in this sample and identified four classes of participants, distinguished by their multimorbidity status, independence and number of treatments. In addition, we observed a dominant combination of multimorbidity in our sample, combining immune dysfunction and gastrointestinal disorders, neurological and joint diseases. These findings support the hypothesis that an altered gut-brain relationship is involved in the risk of autism spectrum disorder, its outcome, and its association with chronic health conditions. Although larger studies are needed, our results suggest that subgroups of autism spectrum disorder + intellectual disability individuals can be identified based on their multimorbidity and potentially different ageing trajectories. A more comprehensive and personalized approach is needed to reduce the burden of multimorbidity and increase the quality of life and life expectancy in autism spectrum disorder/ intellectual disability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This pilot study aimed to explore the impact of visual, auditory and vestibular dysfunctions on the postural balance performance in adults with intellectual disabilities. Additionally, a comparison was made between the subjects with intellectual disabilities and a control group concerning static and dynamic balance tasks. METHOD Thirty adults with intellectual disabilities and 25 control subjects received a postural balance assessment. Additionally, the experimental group was subjected to a visual, auditory and vestibular screening. RESULTS The experimental group performed significantly worse and/or showed more sway compared to the control group for all balance tasks (p < .01) except the timed up and go test. Within the experimental group, a significant positive correlation (rs (24) = 0.513, p = .007) was observed between the number of failed sensory screening items and the number of failed balance tasks. CONCLUSIONS These findings suggest significant involvement of peripheral sensorial deficits in the balance problems that people with intellectual disabilities often experience.
