Abstract
PURPOSE This study was performed to examine the effects of conditioning regimens on oral mucositis in haploidentical (haplo) donor hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) with posttransplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy). METHODS Thirty consecutive patients (male, 23; female, 7; 18-68 years, median, 59 years) undergoing haplo-HSCT with PTCy using one of three conditioning regimens-reduced intensity conditioning (RIC)-melphalan (Mel); RIC-Busulfan (Bu); and myeloablative conditioning (MAC)-Bu-were enrolled in this study. Data on the WHO grade of oral mucositis (day - 7 to + 20) were collected retrospectively. The incidences of ulcerative and severe mucositis (Grade 2-4 and Grade 3-4, respectively) were compared between the three groups. RESULTS Ulcerative mucositis occurred in 0% (0/10) of patients in the RIC-Mel group, 57.1% (4/7) in the RIC-Bu group, and 100% (13/13) in the MAC-Bu group. The differences between the RIC-Mel and RIC-Bu groups and between the RIC-Bu and MAC-Bu groups were significant (all P < 0.05). Severe mucositis occurred in 57.1% (4/7) of patients in the RIC-Bu group and 100% (13/13) of patients in the MAC-Bu group, and the difference was significant (P < 0.05). The rates of ulcerative mucositis (≥ grade 2) and of severe mucositis (≥ grade 3) were significantly higher in the MAC-Bu group than the RIC-Bu group on days 10, 13, 15, and 16 and on days 10, 14, 15, and 16, respectively (all P < 0.05). CONCLUSION The risk of oral mucositis in patients undergoing haplo-HSCT with PTCy is highest with the MAC-Bu conditioning regimen, followed by RIC-Bu, and lowest with RIC-Mel.

Abstract
In recent era, cancer is a major global health hazard and is mostly treated with either radio or chemotherapy. The above treatment procedure induces a secondary concern named as oral mucositis (OM). The disorder OM is specifically associated with oral mucosa and leads to bleeding, pain, difficulty in swallowing of solids, as well as fluids and speech difficulty. Curcumin is explored for prevention as well as treatment of OM. The article was organized via collection of enormous literatures by using the keywords like oral mucositis, chemotherapy, anti-inflammatory, curcumin, and clinical trials from search engines of different domains like Scopus, PubMed/MEDLINE, Science Direct, and Google Scholar with an increasing order of their year of publications. A numerous antineoplastic therapies resulted OM, as a devastating side effect. Moreover, the expanded pathogenesis of the disease permits a sound predictability over the patient's risk, thereby directing its adaptability and management protocols towards the achievement of novel therapeutics. An augmented interest towards curcumin as a potential therapeutic emerged because of its easy accessibility, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiulcer, antimicrobial, and wound-healing abilities along with reduced side effects. Curcumin can potentially alter OM and OM-induced weight loss but showed a great heterogeneity. Graphical Abstract

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is a lack of studies analyzing the association between oral mucositis (OM) and nutritional imbalance in children during hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The aim of this study was to compare the risk factors for OM and nutritional imbalance during HSCT in pediatric patients with nonmalignant diseases (NMD) and malignant diseases (MD). METHODS Data on age, sex, primary disease, transplantation type, conditioning regimen, GVHD prophylaxis, gastrointestinal toxicity, OM, percent body weight loss or gain, nutritional repositioning, and overall survival (OS) were retrospectively collected from the 132 medical records. The data were then compared between patients with NMD (n = 70) and MD (n = 62). RESULTS OM had a similar severity between the groups. The primary risk factor for OM in the NMD group was the conditioning regimen with busulfan, while in the MD group it was GVHD prophylaxis with cyclosporin and methotrexate. OM did not have an impact on body weight loss or gain in any of the groups. In the NMD, body weight gain due to fluid overload was more pronounced and associated with a lower age range. OS was similar between the groups and was not affected by OM. CONCLUSIONS OM pattern was similar in pediatric patients with or without MD, but the factors that determined these oral lesions were different. There were disparities in body weight changes between the two groups, and these changes were not associated to OM.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study examines the risk of severe oral mucositis (SOM) in graft-versus-host disease prophylaxis (GVHD) compared to other agents in hematopoietic cell transplantation patients. METHODS A comprehensive search of four databases, including PubMed, Embassy, Web of Science, and Scopus, was conducted to identify studies reporting frequency and severity of oral mucositis in association with GVHD prophylactic regimens. RevMan 5.4 was used to perform the meta-analysis. Risk of bias assessment was carried out using the Rob-2 tool for randomized clinical trials (RCTs) and ROBINS-I tool for observational studies. RESULTS Twenty-five papers, including 11 RCTs and 14 observational studies, met the inclusion criteria. The pooled results from eight RCTs showed a higher risk of SOM in patients receiving MTX or MTX-inclusive GVHD prophylaxis versus non-MTX alternatives (RR = 1.50, 95% CI [1.20, 1.87], I2 = 36%, P = 0.0003). Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) and post-transplant cyclophosphamide (Pt-Cy) consistently showed lower risk of mucositis than MTX. Folinic acid (FA) rescue and mini-dosing of MTX were associated with reduced oral mucositis severity. CONCLUSION Patients receiving MTX have a higher SOM risk compared to other approaches to prevent GVHD, which should be considered in patient care. When appropriate, MMF, FA, and a mini-dose of MTX may be an alternative that is associated with less SOM. This work also underlines the scarcity of RCTs on MTX interventions to provide the best evidence-based recommendations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Sirolimus (SRL) and everolimus (EVL) are increasingly included in immunosuppressive protocols after heart transplantation. They present some side effects, including the appearance of painful lesions in the oral cavity. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to verify the global prevalence and clinical characteristics of oral lesions induced by SRL and EVL in heart transplant patients. STUDY DESIGN A systematic review was performed using 5 main electronic databases (Medline/PubMed, SCOPUS, EMBASE, Web of Science, and LILACS), in addition to the gray literature. Studies were independently assessed by 2 reviewers based on established eligibility criteria. The risk of bias was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute appraisal tools, and the certainty of evidence was evaluated through GRADE assessment. RESULTS Seventeen studies (860 patients) were included in the qualitative analysis. Of these, 11 studies were pooled in a meta-analysis of prevalence. The worldwide prevalence of oral lesions induced by SRL and EVL in heart transplant patients was 10.0%, and most lesions were described as ulcers >1.0 cm, related to significant pain. CONCLUSIONS Oral lesions induced by SRL and/or EVL, although not very prevalent, have a relevant impact on patient's lives and the continuity of treatment.

Abstract
Oral mucositis (OM) is a common, highly symptomatic complication of cancer therapy that affects patients' function, quality of life, and ability to tolerate treatment. In certain patients with cancer, OM is associated with increased mortality. Research on the management of OM is ongoing. Oral mucosal toxicities are also reported in targeted and immune checkpoint inhibitor therapies. The objective of this article is to present current knowledge about the epidemiology, pathogenesis, assessment, risk prediction, and current and developing intervention strategies for OM and other ulcerative mucosal toxicities caused by both conventional and evolving forms of cancer therapy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To determine whether treatment with tacrolimus plus sirolimus (Tac/Sir) as a prophylaxis for graft-versus-host disease worsens severe oral mucositis and delays healing compared to cyclosporine plus methotrexate (CsA/Mtx) following haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. SUBJECTS AND METHODS The study comprised 141 patients: 73 randomized to receive Tac/Sir and 68 to receive CsA/Mtx. The oral mucositis assessment scale and toxicity grading according to WHO were used to assess the severity, peak and duration of oral mucositis from the day -3 to day 24 post-transplant. RESULTS Eighty-seven patients developed oral mucositis in the first 24 days post-transplant. No significant difference in oral mucositis severity between the Tac/Sir and CsA/Mtx groups was observed. The peak oral mucositis score occurred on day 10 in both groups. Although oral mucositis scores had returned to baseline in the CsA/Mtx group on day 24 post-transplant, no significant difference compared with the Tac/Sir group was found. CONCLUSIONS The introduction of tacrolimus/sirolimus as a graft-versus-host disease prophylaxis in haematopoietic stem cell transplantation increased neither the incidence nor severity of oral mucositis compared with cyclosporine/methotrexate. Furthermore, oral mucositis healing was not prolonged and followed the same time pattern as cyclosporine/methotrexate.
