Abstract
OBJECTIVE There is insufficient evidence to determine the effectiveness of treating allergic rhinitis with a patch laser affix to the skin as opposed to direct intranasal irradiation of the nasal mucosa. We aimed to evaluate the effect of the microneedle patch laser with multiple wavelengths in an allergic rhinitis (AR) mouse model and its underlying mechanism. METHODS The microneedle patch laser was attached to the skin above the mouse's nasal cavity, transmitting light to the nasal mucosa. For 10 days, the microneedle patch laser administered simultaneous exposure to wavelengths of 670, 780, 850, and 910 nm at either 10 or 20 min each day. Multiple allergic parameters were evaluated following the microneedle patch laser treatment. RESULTS Microneedle patch laser treatment decreased allergic symptoms and inhibited OVA-specific IgE levels. Additionally, it significantly reduced eosinophil infiltration, epithelial thickness of the nasal mucosa, and IL-4 cytokine levels. CONCLUSION The light emitted by the microneedle patch laser attached to the skin, penetrated effectively to the nasal mucosa within the nasal cavity, suggesting potential for treating allergic rhinitis in mice and could be extended in clinical applications.

Abstract
Allergic rhinitis is a prevalent allergic diseases and has a profound impact on physical well-being. In recent years, more and more people have changed to allergic diseases, such as allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma, allergic dermatitis and so on. In the incidence of allergic rhinitis, covering all ages. The common clinical treatment of allergic rhinitis are drugs and immunotherapy, but these therapies have certain limitations. Therefore, an effective and economical treatment for AR is urgently needed. Acupuncture are widely used in the clinical treatment of various diseases, but the effect of acupuncture in the treatment of allergic rhinitis (AR) is significant, and the mechanism of acupuncture in the treatment of AR is also a hot spot. Acupuncture is one of the traditional treatment methods of traditional Chinese medicine, which achieves therapeutic effect by pressing a needle or other means at a specific location on the skin to produce a special sensation. Among them, acupuncture, as a popular treatment method, has attracted more and more attention. In this review, we provide an overview of the current understanding of acupuncture and AR, as well as current studies investigating the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for AR.

Abstract
Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common health challenges and has a chronic and repetitive course that requires symptomatic treatment. We aimed to investigate the effect of phototherapy on allergic rhinitis and how long it takes to demonstrate treatment effect. Twenty-one patients who were diagnosed with allergic rhinitis using the skin prick test were enrolled. Red light (660 nm) and infrared light (940 nm) with a low power energy of 5 mW were used three times a day at intervals of at least 5 h. The Rhinoconjuntivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (RQLQ) and a visual analog scale (VAS) were used to measure the changes in symptoms. The median RQLQ and VAS scores before treatment were 62 (49-81.5) and 3 (2-5) points, respectively. The RQLQ score improved significantly at two and four weeks after treatment (52 [39-62.5]) and 46.0 [30.5-57.0], respectively). The VAS scores also improved significantly at two and four weeks after treatment. Nasal obstruction and rhinorrhea improved significantly at one week after the procedure. Low-power (5 mW) light irradiation (660 nm red light and 940 nm infrared) was effective in improving the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. In addition, symptom improvement became clear approximately a week after use. Further studies are required to reach a definitive conclusion.

Abstract
Little is known about alternative treatment options for rhinosinusitis (RS). We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) for RS in experimentally induced rabbit models of RS. A total of 18 rabbits were divided into four groups: a negative control group (n = 3), an RS group without treatment (n = 5, positive control group), an RS group with natural recovery (n = 5, natural recovery group), and an RS group with laser irradiation (n = 5, laser-treated group). Computed tomography and histopathological staining were performed for each group. mRNA and protein expression levels of local cytokines (IFN-γ, IL-17, and IL-5) were also measured. Tissue inflammation revealed a significant improvement in the laser-treated group compared with the RS and natural recovery groups (p < 0.01). In addition, sinus opacification in the CT scans and cytokine expression was reduced in the laser-treated group, though without statistical significance. LLLT could be an effective option for the management of RS concerning radiological, histological, and molecular parameters.

Abstract
Allergic rhinitis (AR) is an inflammatory disorder of the nasal mucosa, and is a worldwide health problem with a significant impact on the quality of life. The main goal of AR treatment is to relieve symptoms. However, standard treatments have considerable side effects or are not effective. Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy has emerged as an alternative treatment. Here, we evaluated the effects of transcutaneous systemic (tail) or local (skin over nostrils) PBM using a 660-nm light-emitting diode (LED) array. Adult rats were assigned into 4 groups: basal, as non-manipulated animals; Sham, as rats sensitized with 7 intradermal injections of ovalbumin (OVA) plus alum followed by intranasal instillation with OVA (2%) daily for 7 days; and the LPBM and SPBM groups, in which the animals were treated with PBM (local or systemic) immediately after the last instillation of OVA (1%) daily for 3 days. Our results showed that local PBM treatment reduced mast cell degranulation in the nasopharynx and nostrils; levels of leukotriene B4, thromboxane A2, and interleukin 4 (IL-4) in the nasopharynx; and gene expression of IL-4. Moreover, we showed higher levels and gene expression of IL-10 after local PBM treatment. Systemic PBM treatment did not change any of the evaluated parameters. In conclusion, our data showed that local (but not systemic) treatment with PBM could improve parameters related to AR in an animal model, and should be tested clinically.

Abstract
A breached nasal epithelial barrier plays an important role in driving allergic rhinitis (AR). Corticosteroids remain the standard of care (SoC) but come with side effects, thus alternative safe and effective treatments able to avoid inflammation and restore barrier integrity are needed. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the barrier-forming capacity of a xyloglucan-based nasal spray (XG) and compare its efficacy to several SoC treatments (corticosteroid spray, oral mast-cell stabilizer and oral antihistamine) in reducing allergic responses in addition to its effect when concomitantly administered with an antihistamine. An ovalbumin (OVA)-induced mouse AR model was used. XG shows a significant efficacy in reducing histological damage in AR mice; improves nasal rubbing and histamine-induced hyper-responsiveness. Total and OVA-specific IgE as well as pro-inflammatory cytokines are significantly reduced compared to OVA challenged-mice, with im-proved efficacy when used as an add-on treatment. However, XG reduces mucous secreting cells (PAS-positive) and mucin mRNA expression similar to the corticosteroid-treated mice. XG-spray maintains tight junction protein expression (ZO-1) and conversely decreases HDAC1 significantly; the latter being highly expressed in AR patients. Moreover, the concomitant treatment showed in all of the endpoints a similar efficacy to the corticosteroids. This innovative approach may represent a novel therapeutic strategy for nasal respiratory diseases like AR, reducing undesirable side effects and improving the quality of life in patients.

Abstract
Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common disease that interferes with the daily activities and reduces the quality of life. Conventional treatments often do not provide complete resolution of the symptoms, and many new treatment modalities have been tried. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) for AR in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Patients diagnosed with AR were randomly allocated to receive LLLT or sham treatment. The primary outcome was a change in the reflective total nasal symptom score (TNSS). The secondary outcome was quality of life scores assessed using the Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire. Incidences of adverse events were also recorded. Among 67 randomized subjects, 41 subjects (22 in LLLT group and 19 in sham treatment group) were included for efficacy analysis. The LLLT group showed a significantly improved TNSS score compared to the sham treatment group for decreasing AR symptom severity (p = 0.011) and improving quality of life regarding nasal symptoms (p = 0.036) at the end of treatment. Throughout the treatment period, no severe adverse events occurred. This clinical trial showed that LLLT is an effective and safe option for the management of AR regarding symptom relief and quality of life improvement.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES To evaluate the antiallergic effect of low-level laser irradiation (LLLI) at 650 nm in a mouse model of allergic rhinitis (AR), and to examine the underlying mechanisms. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS BALB/c mice were sensitized with ovalbumin (OVA) and alum and challenged intranasally with OVA. Straight- and diffusion-type LLLI were applied directly into the intranasal cavity of the mice once daily for 10 days (650 nm, 5 mW, 15 min/day) and multiple allergic parameters were evaluated. RESULTS LLLI reduced allergic symptoms, such as rubbing and sneezing, and suppressed the serum total immunoglobulin E (IgE), OVA-specific IgE, and OVA-specific IgG1 levels. Diffusion-type LLLI significantly reduced eosinophil infiltration of nasal mucosa and lymph nodes (LNs). LLLI reduced the expression of interleukin-4 (IL-4) and IL-17 in cervical LN and splenocyte culture supernatant, as well as their messenger RNA levels in nasal mucosa. However, the expression of interferonγ (IFN-γ) and IL-6 was unaffected by LLLI. The levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) in LN cells and the nasal mucosa, which were increased in the AR group, were reduced by LLLI, suggesting involvement of ROS and NO within their mechanism. CONCLUSIONS LLLI exerted an antiallergic effect by decreasing local and systemic IL-4, IL-17, and IgE levels, as well as eosinophilic infiltration into the nasal mucosa, in a mouse model of AR by modulating ROS and NO levels. Abstract
Asthma is characterized by chronic inflammation in the airways. Several models have been proposed for the discovery of new therapies. Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is relatively new and effective, very low cost, with no side effects. However, there is still no consensus on the optimal dose to be used. In this sense, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the best dose in an experimental model of asthma induced by House Dust Mite (HDM). Balb/c mice received administration of 100 ug/animal HDM and LLLT applications (diode laser: 660 nm, 100 mW and four different energies 1J, 3J, 5J, and 7.5J) for 16 days. After 24 hours, we studied inflammatory, functional, and structural parameters. The results showed that LBI was able to modulate the pulmonary inflammation observed by reducing the number of cells in Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid (BALF) as well as reducing the percentage of neutrophils, eosinophils and T lymphocytes. On the other hand, LLLT increased the level of IL-10 and reduced levels of IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13 in BALF. LLLT was able to reduce the production of mucus, peribronchial eosinophils, collagen deposition, bronchoconstriction index, and bronchial and muscular thickening in the airways. We concluded that the use of LLLT in the treatment of chronic inflammation of the airways attenuated the inflammatory process and functional and structural parameters. We emphasize, in general, that the 1J and 3J laser presented better results. Thus, photobiomodulation may be considered a promising tool for the treatment of chronic pulmonary allergic inflammation observed in asthma.
