Abstract
Background: Young athletes are thought to be models of peak physical condition, capable of exceptional physical accomplishments. However approximately 64 UK athletes aged 12 to 35 will die each year from a phenomenon known as Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD). SCD can be defined as an unexpected death as a result of abrupt loss of cardiac function within an hour of symptom onset. Undiagnosed heart conditions such as arrhythmias are often found to be the cause of SCD. Advantageous physical attributes found in athletes' hearts can complicate diagnoses as hearts with inherited conditions can appear physiologically similar to hearts adapted to strenuous exercise. Growing research surrounding SCD within sporting populations aims to decrease mortality rates however there is an absence of study specifically into SCD in dance. Within sport, the topic of cardiac screening has generated widespread controversy which is fueled by a lack of empirical evidence. There is currently no international consensus of pre participation cardiac screening methods within dance or sport, potentially leaving many dancers and athletes at risk. Methods: As part of this study, existing material surrounding the topics of SCD and cardiac screening in athletes and dancers was gathered. All existing studies at the time of writing in relation to cardiac screening in athletes and dancers were collected and analysed in order to compare results and evaluate the methodological limitations.This process aimed to identify gaps in current knowledge and research to inform future study. Results: This article aimed to analyze the epidemiology of SCD within sport and dance and to make recommendations for pre-participation screening within dance institutions. The study highlights the need to increase awareness of SCD within the dance community and determine appropriate screening approaches depending on context and setting.

Abstract
Loss of consciousness (LOC) during football games is associated with very high mortality rates. In order to address football medical emergencies, in 2013 FIFA implemented the "FIFA 11 steps to prevent sudden cardiac death" program and distributed the FIFA Medical Emergency Bag. The purpose of this work was to identify independent survival factors after LOC on the pitch and to investigate the effectiveness of the FIFA initiatives. An internet search was performed to identify football players suffering LOC on the pitch between 1990 and 2021. A total of 268 cases could be identified and were dichotomized according to the implementation date of the FIFA medical emergency bag. There was 55% mortality after LOC, while cardiogenic LOC was more often (82% vs. 20%) fatal than traumatic LOC. Mortality in developing countries was higher than in developed countries. From the year 2013 survival improved significantly for both traumatic and cardiogenic cases. The location of the LOC significantly influenced survival (OR: 0.20 and p<0.001). LOC on the football field is associated with increased mortality and requires separate monitoring based on a traumatic vs. non-traumatic cause. FIFA initiatives significantly reduced mortality after LOC but significant differences were identified between developed and developing countries.

Abstract
Introduction This paper aims to identify and compare changes in trends and research interests in soccer articles from before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods We compared research interests and trends in soccer-related journal articles published before COVID-19 (2018-2020) and during the COVID-19 pandemic (2021-2022) using Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) topic modeling. Results In both periods, we categorized the social sciences into psychology, sociology, business, and technology, with some interdisciplinary research topics identified, and we identified changes during the COVID-19 pandemic period, including a new approach to home advantage. Furthermore, Sports science and sports medicine had a vast array of subject areas and topics, but some similar themes emerged in both periods and found changes before and during COVID-19. These changes can be broadly categorized into (a) Social Sciences and Technology; (b) Performance training approaches; (c) injury part of body. With training topics being more prominent than match performance during the pandemic; and changes within injuries, with the lower limbs becoming more prominent than the head during the pandemic. Conclusion Now that the pandemic has ended, soccer environments and routines have returned to pre-pandemic levels, but the environment that have changed during the pandemic provide an opportunity for researchers and practitioners in the field of soccer to detect post-pandemic changes and identify trends and future directions for research.

Abstract
In this correspondence, we highlight the risk of sudden cardiac death associated with undiagnosed cardiomyopathies. Life-threatening arrhythmias, which underlie sudden cardiac death, can be triggered by high-intensity exercise. It raises the question whether, and if so, how athletes should be screened for cardiomyopathies. The example of practice from Italy is discussed. We also briefly discuss novel developments, such as wearable biosensors and machine learning, which could be applied to screening for cardiomyopathies in future.

Goalkeepers Live Longer than Field Players: A Retrospective Cohort Analysis Based on World-Class Football Players. Abstract
The purpose of this article is to study whether the position occupied by footballers on the pitch influences their life duration. It is known that various types of sporting activity (endurance, resistance, or mixed) may influence lifespan in different ways. However, there is a paucity of data regarding the role of different positions played in team sports such as football. Our research was based on elite international football players born before 1923 who took part in the first three football World Cups (n = 443) or played in the 1946/1947 season in the leading clubs of the main European leagues (n = 280). Goalkeepers were characterized by a 5–8-year longer life duration compared to their colleagues playing in other positions (World Cup: 82.0 ± 7.0 vs. 74.0 ± 8.0, p = 0.0047; European leagues: 83.0 ± 7.5 vs. 78.0 ± 8.0, p = 0.0023), with an absence of differences between defenders, midfielders, and forwards. Moreover, in both of the analyzed subgroups, the rate of survival until the 85th birthday was significantly higher among goalkeepers than among field players (p = 0.0102 and p = 0.0048, for both studied groups, respectively).

Abstract
Athletic pre-participation screening is essential for minimizing the risk for sudden cardiac death (SCD) in athletes participating in either competitive or leisure sporting activities. The primary causes of SCD in young athletes (<35 years of age) include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, congenital anomalies of the coronary artery and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy. Other abnormalities, such as malignant arrhythmia due to blunt trauma to the chest (commotio cordis), myocarditis, valvular disease, aortic rupture (in Marfan syndrome) and ion channelopathies (catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, Brugada syndrome, long or short QT syndrome), also contribute to a lesser degree to SCD. Currently, clinical assessment, electrocardiogram (ECG) and echocardiography are the cornerstones of the pre-participation athletic evaluation. However, their low sensitivity raises queries as regards the need for the application of more sophisticated modalities, such as cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). CMR offers precise biventricular assessment and is greatly reproducible without the inherent limitations of echocardiography; i.e., low quality of images due to the lack of appropriate acoustic window or operator's experience. Furthermore, myocardium replacement fibrosis, indicative of patients' increased risk for future cardiac events, can be effectively detected by late gadolinium enhanced (LGE) images, acquired 15 min post-contrast injection. Finally, diffuse myocardial fibrosis not identified by LGE, can also be detected by pre-contrast (native) T1, post-contrast T1 mapping and extracellular volume images, which provide detailed information about the underlying pathophysiologic background. Therefore, CMR is recommended in all football players with a positive family or personal history of syncope or SCD, abnormal/doubtful ECG or echocardiogram.

Abstract
Young competitive athletes (≤ 35 years old) with or without a previous
diagnosis of cardiovascular disease may suddenly die in competitive activities,
potentially leading to an impact in society through the media. Although the
relative risk for sudden death (SD) in athletes is twice as high as for their
counterparts, the absolute incidence is low. While there is consensus among
medical societies worldwide that early detection of causal factors is highly
desirable, there is debate among different screening schemes to that end. In
Brazil, the recommendations of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology mirror the
guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), which indicate a
clinical examination combined with a 12-lead resting electrocardiogram,
regardless of the presence of risk factors. The possibility of genetic screening
is also plausible, since most clinical entities that cause SD in young
competitive athletes are related to genotype. Finally, considering the diversity
of practiced sports, and the population miscegenation, we emphasize the need to
a national registry of cases.
