Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a multifactorial metabolic disorder associated with systemic inflammation and vascular complications. Pentraxin-3 (PTX3) has emerged as a key biomarker of inflammation and endothelial dysfunction in DM. We aimed to examine the role of PTX3 in DM and assesses the impact of pharmacological interventions on its expression. The review included studies analyzing PTX3 modulation by antidiabetic therapies, such as sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2i), glucagon-like peptide-1 agonists (GLP-1a), and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4i), as well as the effects of lifestyle interventions. Clinical and experimental studies demonstrated a strong correlation between PTX3 levels and DM progression. Elevated PTX3 levels were associated with diabetic complications, including nephropathy, retinopathy, and cardiovascular diseases. Antidiabetic drugs showed differential effects on PTX3 expression, with GLP-1a and DPP-4i significantly reducing PTX3 levels, while SGLT-2i displayed a paradoxical increase. Lifestyle interventions, including dietary modifications and weight loss, yielded inconsistent effects, suggesting genetic and metabolic factors influence PTX3 regulation. While pharmacological therapies, particularly GLP-1a and DPP-4i, demonstrate anti-inflammatory effects, further research is needed to standardize PTX3 measurement and explore its potential as a therapeutic target. Personalized treatment strategies incorporating genetic profiling may optimize inflammation control and disease management in DM patients.

Abstract
Although cancer can be cured if detected early and treated effectively, it is still a leading cause of death worldwide. Tumor development can be limited by an appropiate immune response, but it can be promoted by chronic extensive inflammation through metabolic dysregulation and angiogenesis. In the past decade, numerous efforts have been made in order to identify novel candidates with predictive values in cancer diagnostics. In line with this, researchers have investigated the involvement of pentraxin-3 (PTX-3) in cellular proliferation and immune escape in various types of cancers, although it has not been clearly elucidated. PTX-3 is a member of the long pentraxin subfamily which plays an important role in regulating inflammation, innate immunity response, angiogenesis, and tissue remodeling. Increased synthesis of inflammatory biomarkers and activation of different cellular mechanisms can induce PTX-3 expression in various types of cells (neutrophils, monocytes, lymphocytes, myeloid dendritic cells, fibroblasts, and epithelial cells). PTX-3 has both pro- and anti-tumor functions, thus dual functions in oncogenesis. This review elucidates the potential usefulness of PTX-3 as a serum biomarker in cancer. While future investigations are needed, PTX-3 is emerging as a promising tool for cancer's diagnosis and prognosis, and also treatment monitoring.

Abstract
Understanding why some wounds are hard to heal is important for improving care and developing more effective treatments. The method of sample collection used is an integral step in the research process and thus may affect the results obtained. The primary objective of this study was to summarise and map the methods currently used to sample wound fluid for protein profiling and analysis. Eligible studies were those that used a sampling method to collect wound fluid from any human wound for analysis of proteins. A search for eligible studies was performed using MEDLINE, Embase and CINAHL Plus in May 2020. All references were screened for eligibility by one reviewer, followed by discussion and consensus with a second reviewer. Quantitative data were mapped and visualised using appropriate software and summarised via a narrative summary. After screening, 280 studies were included in this review. The most commonly used group of wound fluid collection methods were vacuum, drainage or use of other external devices, with surgical wounds being the most common sample source. Other frequently used collection methods were extraction from absorbent materials, collection beneath an occlusive dressing and direct collection of wound fluid. This scoping review highlights the variety of methods used for wound fluid collection. Many studies had small sample sizes and short sample collection periods; these weaknesses have hampered the discovery and validation of novel biomarkers. Future research should aim to assess the reproducibility and feasibility of sampling and analytical methods for use in larger longitudinal studies.

Abstract
Supported with significant rejuvenating and regenerating actions of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in various gastrointestinal diseases including Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-associated gastric diseases, we have compared these actions among placenta derived-MSCs (PD-MSCs), umbilical cord derived-MSCs (UC-MSCs), and adipose tissue derived-MSCs (AD-MSCs) and explored contributing genes implicated in rejuvenation of H. pylori-chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) and tumorigenesis. In this study adopting H. pylori-initiated, high salt diet-promoted gastric carcinogenesis model, we have administered three kinds of MSCs around 15-18 weeks in H. pylori infected C57BL/6 mice and sacrificed at 24 and 48 weeks, respectively, in order to either assess the rejuvenating capability or anti-tumorigenesis. At 24 weeks, MSCs all led to significantly mitigated atrophic gastritis, for which significant inductions of autophagy, preservation of tumor suppressive 15-PGDH, attenuated apoptosis, and efficient efferocytosis was imposed with MSCs administration during atrophic gastritis. At 48 weeks, MSCs administered during H. pylori-associated atrophic gastritis afforded significant blocking the progression of CAG, as evidenced with statistically significant reduction in H. pylori-associated gastric tumor (p<0.05) accompanied with significant decreases in IL-1β, COX-2, STAT3, and NF-κB. Combined together with the changes of stanniocalcin-1 (STC-1), thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1), and IL-10 known as biomarkers reflecting stem cell activities at 48 weeks after H. pylori, PD-MSCs among MSCs afforded the best rejuvenating action against H. pylori-associated CAG via additional actions of efferocytosis, autophagy, and anti-apoptosis at 24 weeks. In conclusion, MSCs, especially PD-MSCs, exerted rejuvenating actions against H. pylori-associated CAG via anti-mutagenesis of IL-10, CD-36, ATG5 and cancer suppressive influences of STC-1, TSP-1, and 15-PGDH.

Abstract
Matricellular proteins (MCPs) are defined as extracellular matrix (ECM) associated proteins that are important regulators and integrators of microenvironmental signals, contributing to the dynamic nature of ECM signalling. There is a growing understanding of the role of matricellular proteins in cellular processes governing tissue development as well as in disease pathogenesis. In this review, the expression and functions of different MP family members (periostin, CCNs, TSPs, SIBLINGs and others) are presented, specifically in relation to craniofacial development and the maintenance of orofacial tissues, including bone, gingiva, oral mucosa, palate and the dental pulp. As will be discussed, each MP family member has been shown to have non-redundant roles in development, tissue homeostasis, wound healing, pathology and tumorigenesis of orofacial and dental tissues.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this randomized split-mouth clinical trial was to evaluate the effects of ozone therapy on clinical and biochemical parameters of moderate to severe generalized periodontitis patients after non-surgical periodontal therapy. METHODS A total of 36 moderate to severe generalized periodontitis patients were included in the study. The patients were systemically healthy and 18 to 64 years of age. Periodontal parameters, including plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD), percentage of bleeding on probing, percentage of pockets deeper than 5 mm and clinical attachment level (CAL), and percentage of ≥3 mm CAL, were evaluated at baseline and 3 months following periodontal therapy. All participants were treated non-surgically. Topical gaseous ozone was applied into periodontal pockets twice a week for 2 weeks during active periodontal therapy. Gingival crevicular fluid pentraxin-3 (PTX-3), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP) were evaluated. All statistical data were analyzed using SPSS software. RESULTS Total of 36 participants completed the study (18 males, 18 females). PI, GI, PD, percentage of bleeding on probing, percentage of pockets deeper than 5 mm and CAL, and percentage of ≥3 mm CAL were improved, and there were no significant differences between the two sides. All inflammatory parameters, PTX-3, Hs-CRP, and IL-1, were reduced at 3-month follow-up. Only the decrease in PTX-3 levels between baseline and 3-month follow-up was statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS Ozone therapy did not have any additional effect on periodontal parameters. All cytokines were reduced after periodontal therapy. Only PTX-3 levels were significantly lower at ozone sites compared to those at the control sites.

Abstract
AIM Orthodontic treatment is routinely carried out in patients with the purpose of correcting various forms of dental malocclusions. Retraction of the canines can be achieved either individually or along with incisor. Pentraxin-3 (PTX-3) is regarded as the true independent indicator of disease activity. Hence, we undertook the present study to assess and compare the level of PTX-3 in patients undergoing canine retraction with active tieback and Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) coil spring. MATERIALS AND METHODS The present study included assessment of 25 patients that underwent canine retraction as a part of fixed orthodontic treatment. In the maxillary right and left quadrant, active tieback and NiTi coil spring were used respectively. Gingival crevicular fluid samples were collected 1 hour prior to the commencement of orthodontic canine retraction procedure followed by collection at following time intervals: 1 hour, 1, 7, and 14 days after the start of canine retraction procedure. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit was used for analysis of the samples as per manufacturer's instructions. All the data were recorded and compiled. All the results were analyzed by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software. RESULTS Nonsignificant difference was observed in the values of PTX-3 at baseline and 1 hour. While comparing the mean PTX-3 values between different time intervals in both the study groups, significant difference was observed. CONCLUSION In comparison to the active tieback, NiTi coil exhibited faster space closure rate. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE In patients undergoing orthodontic treatment, PTX-3 is associated with periodontal remodeling under the effect of orthodontic forces.
