Abstract
Background The study estimated the association between NAFLD and SUA/Cr in Chinese non-obese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and also investigated mediating effect of TG. Methods All patients were divided into NAFLD group (n = 420) and non-NAFLD group (n = 347). The differences of biochemical indicators between the two groups were compared. The link between SUA/Cr and other parameters was checked through Spearman correlation analysis. Differences in the incidence rate of NAFLD between SUA/Cr and TG 3 tertile subgroups were tested by chi-squared. To explore the independent influence of SUA/Cr and TG on NAFLD, logistic regression was performed. The predictive value of SUA/Cr and SUA/Cr combined with BMI for NAFLD was analyzed using ROC curves. In addition, to confirm whether TG has a mediating effect on the link of SUA/Cr and NAFLD, we conducted a mediating analysis. Results NAFLD group had higher SUA/Cr values than individuals without NAFLD (P < 0.01). SUA/Cr was linked with TC and TG (r = 0.081, 0.215 respectively). NAFLD prevalence increased progressively from quartile 1 to quartile 3 of SUA/Cr (44% vs 57% vs 62%). Prevalence of NAFLD increased from quartile 1 to quartile 3 of TG (35.8% vs 58.7% vs 69.9%). Analysis of the logistic regression revealed that SUA/Cr and TG were statistically linked with NAFLD. The ROC curve pointed out that the area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity and specificity of SUA/Cr were 0.59, 0.629 and 0.522, respectively. The AUC, sensitivity and specificity for SUA/Cr combined with BMI were 0.719, 0.644 and 0.677, separately. The mediation analysis showed a statistically direct effect of SUA/Cr on NAFLD (β=0.148, 95% CI: 0.0393, 0.2585). The function of SUA/Cr on NAFLD partially mediated by TG (β=0.1571, 95% CI: 0.0704, 0.2869). Conclusion SUA/Cr was significantly associated with NAFLD in non-obese T2DM patients, and TG partially mediated this association. SUA/Cr can be applied to predict for NAFLD.

Abstract
Serum uric acid (UA), as an antioxidant, has been associated with hypertension in the general population. Hypertension is highly prevalent in patients with polymyositis and dermatomyositis (PM/DM). Owning elevated levels of reactive oxygen species, patients with PM/DM have lower concentrations of UA in comparison with healthy people. We explored a potential association between UA levels and hypertension in PM/DM and evaluated whether this association is independent of hypertension risk factors, PM/DM characteristics and relevant drugs. A total of 472 PM/DM patients were assessed. UA and related laboratory data were measured. Demographic, hypertension-related factors, PM/DM characteristics and drug use were assessed as potential covariates. Results were analyzed using logistic models to test the independence of the association between UA and hypertension. UA levels were higher in hypertension subjects compared to non-hypertensive PM/DM patients [284.70 (239.93-357.38) vs 264.00(222.50-322.75), p = .017]. When adjusted for hypertension risk factors, PM/DM characteristics and drugs, the odds of being a hypertensive PM/DM patient per 1 μmol/L UA increase were significantly increased: odds ratio = 1.473 (95% confidence interval:1.063-2.042, p = .020). This cross-sectional study suggests that UA levels are independently associated with hypertension in PM/DM patients.

Abstract
The available evidence on the relationship between serum uric acid and triglycerides in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is limited. The objective of this study is to investigate whether there is an independent association between serum uric acid and triglycerides in ccRCC, while adjusting for other variables. This cross-sectional study involved 1018 participants with ccRCC, who were admitted to a hospital in China from December 1st, 2013 to January 1st, 2023. The main independent variable investigated was serum uric acid, which was measured at baseline. The dependent variable was triglycerides. Covariates considered in this study included age, sex, body mass index, smoking status, hypertension, diabetes, coronary disease, High-density lipoprotein cholesterol, Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, Total cholesterol, Blood urea nitrogen, and Creatinine. The study included 1018 participants with an average age of 56.92 ± 10.88 years old, and approximately 68% of them were male. The fully-adjusted linear regression analysis indicated a positive association between serum uric acid levels (100μmol/L) and triglyceride levels (mmol/L) after adjusting for confounding factors (β = 0.13, 95% CI [0.07, 0.18]). Furthermore, a smooth curve was constructed between serum uric acid and triglycerides based on the fully-adjusted model. In patients with ccRCC, there was a positive association between serum uric acid and triglycerides.

Abstract
Purpose To probe the property of serum uric acid in evaluating the activity of patients with thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy. Methods A total of 443 patients with TAO admitted to our hospital from March 2016 to February 2021 were selected for the observation group. Simultaneously, 443 healthy subjects were selected for the control group. The observation group was divided into the active group (n = 254) and the inactive group (n = 189) according to the clinical activity score (CAS). Besides, the patients were divided into mild group (n = 201), moderate severe group (n = 133) and extremely severe group (n = 109) based on the severity of TAO. Serum uric acid, free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroid hormone (FT4), thyrotropin stimulating hormone (TSH) and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels were detected and analyzed in each group. Results Serum UA, FT3, FT4, TSH and HbA1c in the active group were significantly enhanced than those in the other two groups (P < 0.05), and there was no significant difference between the inactive group and the control group (P > 0.05). In different disease severity groups, the serum UA level of patients in the active group was significantly promoted than that in the inactive group and control group (P < 0.05) and was decreased successively in extremely severe group, moderate severe group and mild group, with statistical significance (P < 0.05). Pearson's analysis showed that UA was positively correlated with FT3, FT4, and HbA1c (r = 0.652, P = 0.031; r = 0.571, P = 0.042; r = 0.737, P = 0.024), while was reversely correlated with TSH level (r = -0.137, P = 0.262). There was no correlation between UA and FT3, FT4, and HbA1c levels in the inactive group. UA detection showed the average sensitivity and specificity of TAO activity were 94.3% and 85.2%, respectively. There was no significant correlation between the severity of disease and serum UA in inactive patients (P = 0.135). There was a positive correlation between the severity of disease and serum UA in active patients (P = 0.005). Conclusion UA may be used as a laboratory indicator for quantitative clinical diagnosis of thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) and as a parameter for the presence of TAO activity.

Abstract
Hemoglobin (Hb) and lipid metabolism are critical in the pathophysiology of moyamoya disease (MMD), and Hb and triglycerides (TGs) both play roles in the development of cerebrovascular illness. However, there is little evidence of a link between Hb and TGs in patients with MMD. This study aimed to determine the association between Hb and TGs in patients who had recently been diagnosed with MMD. From March 2013 to December 2018, 337 patients clinically diagnosed with MMD were admitted to our hospital. Among these, 235 were selected for analysis in this retrospective, cross-sectional study. Each patient's clinical features were documented. For analysis, we used univariate analysis, smoothed-curve fitting, and multivariable, piecewise linear regression. Overall, the mean±standard deviation patient age was 48.14 ± 11.24 years, 44.68% were men, and the mean Hb concentration was 135.72 ± 18.99 g/L. After controlling for relevant confounders, smoothed-curve fitting revealed a nonlinear association between the Hb and TG concentrations (P = 0.0448). When the Hb concentration was below 141 g/L, multivariate piecewise linear regression analysis revealed a significant association between the Hb and TG concentrations [β: 0.01, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.00, 0.01; P = 0.0182], although the association disappeared above this threshold (β:-0.00, 95% CI:-0.01, 0.01; P = 0.4429). In individuals newly diagnosed with MMD, there is a significant correlation between Hb and TGs, which may be connected to MMD pathogenesis.

Abstract
Moyamoya arteriopathy (MA) is a rare cerebrovascular disorder characterized by ischemic/hemorrhagic strokes. The pathophysiology is unknown. A deregulation of vasculogenic/angiogenic/inflammatory pathways has been hypothesized as a possible pathophysiological mechanism. Since lipids are implicated in modulating neo-vascularization/angiogenesis and inflammation, their deregulation is potentially involved in MA. Our aim is to evaluate angiogenic/vasculogenic/inflammatory proteins and lipid profile in plasma of MA patients and control subjects (healthy donors HD or subjects with atherosclerotic cerebrovascular disease ACVD). Angiogenic and inflammatory protein levels were measured by ELISA and a complete lipidomic analysis was performed on plasma by mass spectrometry. ELISA showed a significant decrease for MMP-9 released in plasma of MA. The untargeted lipidomic analysis showed a cumulative depletion of lipid asset in plasma of MA as compared to HD. Specifically, a decrease in membrane complex glycosphingolipids peripherally circulating in MA plasma with respect to HD was observed, likely suggestive of cerebral cellular recruitment. The quantitative targeted approach demonstrated an increase in free sphingoid bases, likely associated with a deregulated angiogenesis. Our findings indicate that lipid signature could play a central role in MA and that a detailed biomarker profile may contribute to untangle the complex, and still obscure, pathogenesis of MA.

Abstract
Inflammation has been proven to be one of the key factors in the pathogenesis of moyamoya disease (MMD). Platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) are cheap and reliable biomarkers of inflammation. Nevertheless, evidence regarding the relationship among PLR and NLR in patients with MMD is limited. The focus of this subject was to explore the relationship between PLR and NLR in patients with newly diagnosed MMD. Patients and methods: A cross-sectional study was performed including 261 patients with diagnosed MMD for the first time who were enrolled from our hospital, from 24 March 2013 to 24 December 2018. The clinical characteristics were collected for each patient. Univariate analysis, smooth curve fitting and multivariate piecewise linear regression were showed. Results: The mean levels or median values (interquartile range) of PLR and NLR were 146.979 ± 51.203 and 2.241 (1.589–2.984), respectively. A significant positive correlation between PLR and NLR levels (P < 0.001) was showed by the univariate analysis. Furthermore, a non-linear relationship was detected between PLR and NLR by smooth curve fitting after adjusting for potential confounders. A multivariate piecewise linear regression model revealed a significant positive correlation between PLR and NLR when the PLR level was lower than 219.82 (β 0.012, 95% CI 0.005, 0.019; P = 0.001). PLR was also significantly positively associated with NLR when PLR concentrations were >219.82 (β 0.098, 95% CI 0.069, 0.128; P < 0.001). Conclusion: There seemed to be a positive association between PLR and NLR in patients with MMD. This may help to further explain the role of inflammation in the occurrence and progress of MMD.

Abstract
Background Elevated triglyceride (TG) levels are a biomarker for cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The correlation between serum uric acid (SUA) and TG concentrations in adults or obese children is well established. However, studies on SUA and TG in children with short stature are limited. Aim To determine the relationship between SUA and TG levels in short children and adolescents. Method This was a cross-sectional evaluation of a cohort of 1095 patients with short stature (720 males and 375 females). The related clinical characteristics, including anthropometric and biochemical parameters, were determined. Results Smooth curve fitting, adjusted for potential confounders was performed, which indicated the existence of a non-linear relationship between these measures. Piecewise multivariate linear analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between SUA and TG at SUA concentrations over 7 mg/dL (β = 0.13, 95% CI: 0.05–0.22, P = 0.002) but no significant correlation at lower SUA levels (β = 0.01, 95% CI: 0.01–0.04, P = 0.799). Furthermore, a stratified analysis was performed to appraise changes in this relationship for different sexes and standard deviation levels of body mass index (BMI). The non-linear relationship remained consistent in males and females with BMI standard deviation scores (BMI SDS) ≥ 0, with inflection points of 6.71 mg/dL and 3.93 mg/dL, respectively. Within these two groups, SUA and TG levels showed a positive association when SUA levels were higher than the inflection point (β = 0.21, 95% CI: 0.11–0.31, P < 0.001 for males and β = 0.1, 95% CI: 0.03–0.17, P = 0.005 for females). However, a specific relationship was not observed at lower SUA levels. No significant relationships were found between SUA and TG levels in males and females with BMI SDS < 0. Conclusion The present study identified the non-linear association of SUA and TG levels with short children and adolescents. This relationship was based on BMI status. This finding suggests that health status should be considered for short stature children with high SUA levels, especially in children with a high BMI standard deviation score. Abstract
BACKGROUND Systemic inflammation has been implicated in the pathogenesis of moyamoya disease (MMD). Sortilin is a critical regulator of proinflammatory cytokine secretion in several cell types. The present study investigated the association between circulating sortilin and proinflammatory cytokine levels and the occurrence of MMD. METHODS Forty-two MMD cases and 76 age- and sex-matched controls were enrolled in this study between January 2018 and June 2019 at the Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical University. The demographic and clinical characteristics were evaluated, and the circulating serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of sortilin, sortilin-related receptor with A-type repeats (SorLA), and proinflammatory cytokines including C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin (IL)-6, interferon (IFN)-γ were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Linear regression and correlation analyses were used to estimate the associations between sortilin, SorLA, and proinflammatory cytokine levels. RESULTS MMD patients had higher serum levels of sortilin (P = 0.012), CRP (P = 0.013), IL-6 (P = 0.004), and IFN-γ (P = 0.033) than healthy controls. In MMD patients, serum sortilin was positively correlated with serum proinflammatory cytokines (CRP: r = 0.459, P = 0.0022; IL-6: r = 0.445, P = 0.0032; and IFN-γ: r = 0.448, P = 0.0029) and CSF sortilin (r = 0.440, P = 0.0035); the latter was positively correlated with CSF levels of CRP (r = 0.542, P = 0.0002), IL-6 (r = 0.440, P = 0.0036), and IFN-γ (r = 0.443, P = 0.0033). CONCLUSIONS Elevated sortilin level is associated MMD onset and may be a clinically useful biomarker along with proinflammatory cytokine levels.

Triglyceride/High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Ratio Is Associated with In-Hospital Mortality in Acute Type B Aortic Dissection. BIOMED RESEARCH INTERNATIONAL 2020; 2020:5419846. Abstract
Background Triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-c) ratio varies with vascular and other metabolic diseases. However, its role in acute type B aortic dissection is not well understood. In the current study, we evaluated the relationship between TG/HDL-c ratio and in-hospital mortality in type B aortic dissection. Methods We performed a retrospective analysis of consecutive patients between January 2015 and December 2018, by targeting dependent (TG/HDL-c ratio) and independent (in-hospital mortality) variables. TG/HDL-c ratio was determined as a division of TG levels by HDL-c levels. Results Of 523 patients in the study, we found a mean age of 55.00 ± 11.74 years, 15.68% of them being female. A fully-adjusted model revealed a positive relationship between TG/HDL-c ratio and in-hospital mortality in acute type B aortic dissection after adjusting confounders (OR = 2.08, 95% CI 1.32 to 3.27). This relationship was also nonlinear, with a point of 2.05. OR values (and confidence intervals) for the right (>2.05) and left (≤2.05) sides of the inflection point were 1.0 (0.580-1.26, P = 0.983) and 3.17 (1.54-6.57, P = 0.001), respectively. Conclusions The TG/HDL-c ratio and in-hospital mortality in type B AAD have a nonlinear relationship among Chinese population. This ratio increased in-hospital mortality when it is less than 2.05.
