Abstract
INTRODUCTION There is little HIV counselling that directly meets the needs of men in Eastern and Southern Africa, limiting men's knowledge about the benefits of HIV treatment and how to overcome barriers to engagement, contributing to poorer HIV-related outcomes than women. Male-specific approaches are needed to improve men's outcomes but may be difficult for healthcare workers (HCWs) to implement with fidelity and quality in low-resource settings. We developed a male-specific counselling curriculum which was implemented by male HCWs and then conducted a mixed-methods quality assessment. METHODS We audio-recorded counselling sessions to assess the quality of implementation (n = 50) by male HCWs from two cadres (nurse, n = 10 and lay cadre, n = 10) and conducted focus group discussions (FGDs) with HCWs at 6 and 9 months after rollout to understand barriers and facilitators to implementation. Counselling sessions and FGDs were translated, transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis adapted from WHO Quality Counselling Guidelines. We assessed if sessions were respectful, informative, interactive, motivating and included tailored action plans for overcoming barriers to care. All data were collected September 2021-June 2022. RESULTS All sessions used respectful, non-judgemental language. Sessions were highly interactive with most HCWs frequently asking open-ended questions (n = 46, 92%) and often incorporating motivational explanations of how antiretroviral therapy contributes to life goals (n = 42, 84%). Few sessions included individually tailored action plans for clients to overcome barriers to care (n = 9, 18%). New counselling themes were well covered; however, occasionally themes of self-compassion and safe sex were not covered during sessions (n = 16 and n = 11). HCWs believed that having male HCWs conduct counselling, ongoing professional development and keeping detailed counselling notes facilitated quality implementation. Perceived barriers included curriculum length and client hesitancy to participate in action plan development. Findings were similar across cadres. CONCLUSIONS Implementing high-quality male-specific counselling using male nurses and/or lay cadre is feasible. Efforts to utilize lay cadres should be prioritized, particularly in low-resource settings. Programmes should provide comprehensive job aids to support HCWs. Ongoing training and professional development are needed to (1) improve HCWs' skills in tailored action plans, and (2) sensitize HCWs to the need for self-compassion within male clients to promote holistic sexual health.

Abstract
Occupational therapy may be facing an incongruence in values. A growing body of literature, based on occupational therapy documentation and the perspectives of clients, suggests the profession is more focused on productivity and institutional demands than the individualized needs of clients. A proposed solution in occupational therapy education is the critical reading of literary narratives with qualities of complex characters, sensory evoking language, and the subjective truths of the individual experience. This is proposed because empathy has been shown to improve client outcomes and the reading of literary narratives has been shown to improve levels of empathy. Instruction through literary narratives, versus medicalized case studies or videos, may help occupational therapists practice with consilience, regain what is threatened, and provide more impactful and empathic-centered care.

Abstract
Introduction Sensory Modulation Interventions (SMI) assist people with mental illnesses to regulate emotional and physiological arousal. We aimed to conduct a scoping review to identify the study designs, geographical distribution, modality/regimen, barriers and facilitators in using SMI for individuals with mental illnesses. Methods A systematic search was conducted using Arksey and O'Malley's framework with studies published on SMI from January 2010 to November 2020. Results 17 articles were found to be relevant. One was a case-control study, qualitative (N = 3), mixed-method (N = 3), and case studies (N = 3), and the rest were pilot interventional studies (N = 8). The duration of sessions ranged from 2 to 30 minutes for 2 days to 3 years. The facilitators in using SMI were of being cost-effective and easily adaptable. Barriers were in terms of maintenance of sensory items. Sensory modulation based items related to proprioception, vestibular and tactile were the frequently used in the SMI based interventions used in the included studies. Conclusions SMI as an occupational therapy intervention for individuals with mental illnesses is evolving and more robust studies in the future are recommended.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The ADAPT Program have improved activities of daily living (ADL) in women with fibromyalgia. To understand the functioning of the program, it is relevant to evaluate how program theory components are linked to outcomes (mechanisms) and how the randomised controlled trial (RCT) context, influenced delivery and outcomes. OBJECTIVE To evaluate ADAPT in terms of dose, mechanisms of change and contextual factors. MATERIAL/METHODS Dose was recorded on the n = 21 participants receiving ADAPT in the IMPROvE trial (NCT01352052). A subsample of n = 16 attended one of three 2-hour focusgroups, evaluating mechanisms of change and contextual factors. Interview questions explored participants' interaction with four program components, i.e. how the 'client-centred approach', 'group-based peer-exchange format', 'teaching-learning strategies' and 'long-term program format' triggered mechanisms facilitating/hindering outcomes. Moreover, how randomisation procedures influenced delivery and outcomes. RESULTS Attending a long-term educational peer-exchange program, in which participants experienced met by a health professional that legitimised difficulties, facilitated participants knowledge, insights and motivation for changing habits. With time and support, participants experienced increased acceptance of their situation and began to implement more effective ways to perform ADL tasks. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE Results support previous findings of improved ADL ability post-ADAPT and provide initial evidence to support the ADAPT Program theory.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore how communication is perceived and care is negotiated amongst IA healthcare teams by drawing on the perspectives of each team member. METHOD This analysis drew on data from an ongoing three-year study exploring team-based IA care. We interviewed 11 participants including two men with IA and their family care providers and healthcare providers. We used a three-staged analytic process and integrated broad tenets of social network theory to understand the relational dimensions of team members experiences. RESULT Analysis revealed three themes regarding communication and care: (1) seeking/sharing information, (2) striving to coordinate unified care, and (3) providing patients a voice. DISCUSSION This study emphasizes the importance of understanding team dynamics beyond the dyad of patient and care provider. Negotiating power and decision-making in IA care is a dynamic process involving shifting levels of responsibility amongst a care team. Communication-based strategies that extend dyadic interactions may enhance teamwork and health outcomes in chronic conditions.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Despite mounting evidence for the management of various health care conditions, the uptake of scientific evidence in occupational therapy is often suboptimal. Although positive attitudes and self-efficacy are key to evidence-based practices (EBPs), how one becomes an evidence-based practitioner, and how expertise in EBP manifests in practice, remains unclear. OBJECTIVE To describe how expert evidence-based practitioners conceptualize and enact their expertise in stroke rehabilitation. DESIGN Qualitative interpretive descriptive study using in-depth semistructured interviews with eight occupational therapists identified as expert evidence-based practitioners in a previous study. Transcripts were analyzed using an inductive thematic content analysis, and emergent themes were identified. SETTINGS Rehabilitation settings across Canada. RESULTS Six overarching themes emerged: (1) relying on personal attributes to engage in practice improvement, (2) acting on factors that motivate and trigger EBP, (3) achieving better outcomes because of engagement in EBP, (4) using an adaptive decision-making process, (5) participating in professional activities that contribute to practice improvement, and (6) working in a practice area with a large body of evidence. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE Expertise in stroke rehabilitation EBP appears to be a function of several personal attributes and habits of mind in addition to being influenced by a commitment to client-centered practice. Expertise requires a combination of deliberate effort and motivation to improve client outcomes, always in a context conducive to reflection, adaptation, and openness to innovation. Experts who model these traits and articulate the processes used to develop their expertise can be viewed as promising educational and continuing professional development resources. What This Article Adds: Expert evidence-based occupational therapists develop their expertise in this domain through commitment to client-centered practice, efforts toward honing this aspect of practice, and a willingness to innovate and adapt to challenging situations.

Abstract
In this exploratory study, we investigate whether goal-directed intervention for wheelchairs can increase the activities of daily living for children and young people with cerebral palsy (CP) when implemented in rural Uganda. Thirty-two children and young people with CP (aged 3–18 years) participated in a home-visit intervention program, which included donating wheelchairs and setting individual goals. Goal achievement, frequency of wheelchair use, condition of wheelchairs, and caregivers’ perspectives were collected by interviews at 6–10 month after the start of intervention and the after three years. Our result show that most wheelchairs were in good condition and frequently used after 6–10 month with 83% goal achievement (132/158 goals; mean 4.3 (range 0–7). The caregivers reported several advantages (e.g., the child being happier) and few disadvantages (e.g., poor design and durability). At the three-year follow-up, only eleven wheelchairs were still used by 23 available participants (seven deceased and two moved). The children achieved 60% of their goals (32/53 goals mean 2.9; range 1–5). This demonstrates that the goal-directed intervention program for wheelchairs can be successfully implemented in a low-income setting with a high rate of goal achievement and frequent wheelchair use, facilitating participation. However, maintenance services are crucial to obtain sustainable results.

Abstract
Introduction: Reviews within the field of assistive technology have shown that a client-centered approach is important for user satisfaction, and that assistive technology service delivery should be evidence-based, systematic, and structured. However, client-centered instruments and systematic, structured models are not used consistently. As part of a larger research project, an evidence-based, client-centered assistive technology service delivery process was developed and piloted. The purpose of this study was to investigate occupational therapists’ perspectives on this evidence-based, client-centered assistive technology intervention. Method: Ten occupational therapists, from two Danish municipalities, participated in focus groups. Data were analyzed based on a hermeneutic approach. Results: Three themes emerged from the analysis: a more refined collaboration with clients; advantages of using theoretical frameworks, structured models and instruments and challenges in using the intervention. Conclusion: By using the evidence-based, client-centered intervention, the occupational therapists found that the collaboration with the clients was refined—more emphasis was placed on shared responsibility. They found that the intervention was time-efficient in the long run; however, there seems to be a particular challenge in designing services that are inclusive of clients with cognitive limitations.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of the study is to present the process of translation, adaptation and validation of the Client-Centred Rehabilitation Questionnaire (CCRQ) in the Spanish context. METHODS The process integrates two sequential phases. Phase 1 consists of a questionnaire translation and back-translation process conducted by a panel of experts, and a pilot study. In phase 2, CCRQ-e (Spanish version) was administered to 305 rehabilitation inpatients to collect evidence on the reliability and validity of the instrument. RESULTS The exploratory and confirmatory analysis confirmed seven original domains, eliminating four items from the original scale. CCRQ-e has a good internal consistency. Discriminative construct validity distinguished significant differences based on age, educational level, and severity of diagnosis. Criterion validity of the CCRQ and EQ-5D showed negative significant correlations between CCRQ-e and the general perception of health EQ-VAS, and a positive correlation between CCRQ-e and EQ pain and EQ anxiety (higher scores in CCRQ-e mean lower client-centered practice perceived). CONCLUSIONS The Spanish version of the CCRQ is suitable for evaluating person-centered rehabilitation from the person's perspective. It includes aspects related to the comfort, decision-making, and participation of the client, as well as questions about the provision of service and the environment.Implications for rehabilitationThe original seven domains of the CCRQ could be replicated in the sample of patients from Spanish rehabilitation services.By eliminating four items from the original scale, the validated scale, known as the CCRQ-e (Spanish version), was obtained.The CCRQ-e allows a reliable and valid evaluation of the perception of the person-centeredness of the Spanish rehabilitation services.The CCRQ-e is the first self-reported measure in Spanish of an individual's experience during the rehabilitation service.

Abstract
Depression and anxiety are common sequelae of stroke, occurring in at least one-third of patients. This study evaluated the acceptability and feasibility of providing mindfulness training (MT) to stroke survivors with the aim of reducing depression and anxiety. Following a six-week one-on-one MT course, 17 participants were interviewed. The median age of participants was 71, and 10 participants were male. This paper focuses on participants' expectations of the MT and their views about its impact on their everyday lives. Conventional content analysis was used for coding and analysis. A single theme, Seizing rehabilitation opportunities, was captured in relation to expectations of MT, and four themes provided information relating to participants' perceived impact of the course: Calming the mind, Reduced reactivity, Remedying physical symptoms, and Not quite there yet.Most participants knew little about mindfulness before the MT and did not have specific goals in mind when volunteering to take part. The findings suggest that most participants considered MT beneficial through reducing stress and giving them additional skills to cope with their everyday lives. A tailored mindfulness intervention may be a useful adjunct to other rehabilitation therapies for stroke survivors.

Abstract
Background. Tai Chi is a form of exercise that is accessible to people from different socioeconomic backgrounds, making it a potentially valuable activity for health promotion of older adults. Purpose. The objective of this scoping review was to summarize the current knowledge about the effectiveness of Tai Chi for older adults across a range of general health outcomes from published, peer reviewed, unique meta-analyses. Methods. Meta-analyses were retrieved from Medline, Embase, AMED, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus, PsychINFO, Web of Science, PubMed Health, and the Cochrane Library from database inception to late August 2019. Multistage deduplication and screening processes identified eligible full-length meta-analyses. Two people independently appraised 27 meta-analyses based on the GRADE system and organized results into 3 appendices subsequently collated into heterogeneous, statistically significant, and statistically insignificant tables. Results. "High" and "moderate" quality evidence extracted from these meta-analyses demonstrated that practicing Tai Chi can significantly improve balance, cardiorespiratory fitness, cognition, mobility, proprioception, sleep, and strength; reduce the incidence of falls and nonfatal stroke; and decrease stroke risk factors. Conclusions. Health care providers can now recommend Tai Chi with high level of certainty for health promotion of older adults across a range of general health outcomes for improvement of overall well-being.

Abstract
Evaluative conclusions are grounded in implicit and explicit criteria that describe a successful or high-quality intervention. Most often, evaluative criteria are drawn from program objectives that reflect the values and priorities of program designers and funders. Yet, an exclusive focus on program goals risks overlooking the values of program participants, the extent to which their actual needs and priorities are addressed, and, in certain types of programs, the choices participants make and agency they exercise. This article presents concepts and methods to guide evaluators in drawing some of the criteria used in an evaluation from program participants. The article outlines a typology of evaluative criteria and seven methods for drawing outcomes-focused criteria from program participants. The article concludes with a discussion of implications and future directions for research and practice.

Abstract
Background. Placements are key contexts for occupational therapy students to connect theoretical knowledge (theory) with practice. Theory relates to the prevailing ideas and concepts used by a profession. It can be derived within and outside the profession (discipline-specific knowledge and related knowledge, respectively). Purpose. This scoping review aimed to identify what is known about the nature of theoretical knowledge used in occupational therapy practice education. Method. A search of 4 electronic databases identified 19 relevant publications, data from which was extracted deductively. Findings. Inconsistent descriptions related to discipline-specific knowledge while related knowledge was often presented as not integrated with, or complementing, discipline-specific knowledge. Some authors referred to educational knowledge and methods informing student's theory use during placements. Implications. Educational methods need to provide a foundational platform, enabling novice learners to structure their thinking about ways discipline-specific and related knowledge can be used within an occupational framework on placement.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We aimed to identify the core elements of centredness in healthcare literature. Our overall research question is: How has centredness been represented within the health literature published between 1990 and 2019? METHODS A scoping review across five databases (Medline (Ovid), PsycINFO, CINAHL, Embase (Ovid) and Scopus; August 2019) to identify all peer-reviewed literature published since 1990 that focused on the concept of centredness in any healthcare discipline or setting. Screening occurred in duplicate by a multidisciplinary, multinational team. The team met regularly to iteratively develop and refine a coding template that was used in analysis and discuss the interpretations of centredness reported in the literature. RESULTS A total of 23 006 title and abstracts, and 499 full-text articles were screened. A total of 159 articles were included in the review. Most articles were from the USA, and nursing was the disciplinary perspective most represented. We identified nine elements of centredness: Sharing power; Sharing responsibility; Therapeutic relationship/bond/alliance; Patient as a person; Biopsychosocial; Provider as a person; Co-ordinated care; Access; Continuity of care. There was little variation in the concept of centredness no matter the preceding word (eg, patient-/person-/client-), healthcare setting or disciplinary lens. Improving health outcomes was the most common justification for pursuing centredness as a concept, and respect was the predominant driving value of the research efforts. The patient perspective was rarely included in the papers (15% of papers). CONCLUSIONS Centredness is consistently conceptualised, regardless of the preceding word, disciplinary lens or nation of origin. Further research should focus on centring the patient perspective and prioritise research that considers more diverse cultural perspectives.

Abstract
Background: The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) classification is a biopsychosocial frame of reference that contributes to a holistic understanding of the functioning of a client and the factors involved. Personal factors (PFs) are not currently classified in the ICF due to large societal and cultural diversity and lack of clarity in the scope of such factors. Aims: To ascertain which factors in the ICF classification have been defined as PFs in different studies and what conclusions have been drawn on their role in the ICF classification. Methods: The study was a scoping review. A systematic search for articles published in 2010–2020 was performed on the Cinahl, Pubmed, ScienceDirect, and Sport Discus databases. The PFs specified in the articles were classified according to the seven categories proposed by Geyh et al. socio-demographic factors; position in the immediate social and physical context; personal history and biography; feelings; thoughts and beliefs; motives; and general patterns of experience and behavior. Results: The search yielded 1,988 studies, of which 226 met the inclusion criteria. The studies had addressed a wide variety of PFs that were linked to all seven categories defined by Geyh et al. Some studies had also defined PFs that were linkable to other components of the ICF or that did not describe functioning. Approximately 22% (51) of the studies discussed the role of PFs in rehabilitation. Conclusions: The range of PFs in the ICF classification addressed in the reviewed studies is wide. PFs play an important role in rehabilitation. However, according to the reviewed studies, a more precise coding of PFs is not yet warranted.

Abstract
Background: Client-centred practice aims to involve the person in making decisions during the therapeutic intervention process, giving him or her a central and active role.Objectives: To analyze the effects of client-centred practice in occupational therapy on issues related to occupational performance and participation among people with stroke and traumatic brain injury.Material and methods: A systematic review of randomized clinical trials examining the effects of a client-centred practice carried out by occupational therapists in patients with stroke or traumatic brain injury aged over 18 years was conducted. PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, OT Seeker, PsycINFO and EBSCO were used to retrieve potentially eligible publications.Results: Eight studies, from 294 identified, were included. The extracted data showed that the application of client-centred practice in occupational therapy improved satisfaction with occupational performance compared to conventional interventions. However, client-centred practice and conventional intervention had similar effects on functionality (Activities of Daily Living), life satisfaction and burden on caregivers.Conclusions and significance: Client-centred practice has the effect of achieving greater satisfaction with occupational performance. This suggests that client-centred practice in occupational therapy helps patients to accept the new limitations on their occupational performance. Further studies are needed to determine the effects of client-centred practice on other aspects.

Abstract
Objective: The success of a client-centred practice depends on the relationship between the
client and therapist and on their ability to make constructive decisions together,
particularly in the field of occupational therapy. The aim of this study was to develop
a Occupational Therapy Collaborative Relationship Scale (OTCRS) to measure the quality
of such interaction. Methods: This work included constructing a draft questionnaire and testing its validity and
reliability. A Rasch analysis was applied to determine its validity, and several tests
were used to confirm its internal consistency. Results: After reviewing more than 130 scientific papers and books, we built explicit selection
criteria for issues to be addressed in this instrument, and we developed 40 questions to
be included. These were analysed using a standard content validation process and a Rasch
analysis to examine confirmation validity. A nine-item scale was finalised for testing
(OTCRS-9). This review process revealed the validity, high internal consistency, and
item/person separation reliability of OTCRS-9. Conclusion: This study presents only the initial phase of scale development. As suggested by the
Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN),
the OTCRS-9 score should be tested further for validity and reliability and should also
be conducted in subjects of other ethnicities to improve its generalizability.

Abstract
Background: The concept of client-centred practice is an essential element of occupational therapy (OT), but there is a lack of a clear and shared definition of the concept in Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden and Denmark). This may complicate the articulation, discussion, development and implementation of client-centredness in OT practices.Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate and discuss current understandings of client-centred practice in Scandinavian contexts.Material and method: The study was based on a social constructivist research approach in which Fairclough's critical discourse analysis was applied. The analysis was based on six documents published in Scandinavian OT journals and four documents published in Scandinavian Journal of OT.Results: In Scandinavian contexts, the concept of client-centred practice was articulated in three overall discourses: a client, collaborative and practice discourse. The practice discourse was the most prominent and the source of the other discourses.Conclusions and significance: Occupational therapists (OTs) in the Scandinavian countries have conceptual understandings of client-centred practice that potentially provide the basis for knowledge sharing and collaboration between OT communities. However, the study also found that client-centred practice may not yet be firmly established in all OT practices in Scandinavia.

Two people independently appraised 42 meta-analyses based on the GRADE system and organized results into 3 appendices subsequently collated into heterogeneous, statistically significant, and statistically insignificant tables.Results: "High" and "moderate" quality evidence indicates that Tai Chi can significantly benefit adults with health conditions including cancers, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, coronary heart disease, depression, heart failure, hypertension, low back pain, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, Parkinson's Disease and stroke. Outcomes included significant improvements in activities of daily living, balance, exercise capacity, gait, mastery, mental health, mobility, motor function, participation in daily life, physical function, quality of life, range of motion, and strength; with reductions in blood pressure, body mass index, depression, disability, dyspnea, falls, fatigue, pain, stiffness, and waist circumference.Conclusions: Healthcare providers now have information to advise clients with health conditions on the effectiveness of Tai Chi for overall health promotion.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONTai Chi is a form of safe, enjoyable, light-to-moderate aerobic physical activity for adults that is inexpensive to implement in diverse community settings.Adults with health conditions require physical activity for prevention of secondary impairments and over-all health promotion.This scoping review of meta-analyses elucidates "high" and "moderate" quality evidence of the effectiveness of Tai Chi in improving important outcomes for people with numerous health conditions.This information can be useful for healthcare providers who wish to recommend effective community-based physical activity to clients they are serving.

Abstract
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The aim of the present study was to evaluate client-centred care in older persons' home care services from the perspective of older persons and family members. The following research questions were addressed: How do home care older persons and family members perceive client-centered care in their home care services? What kind of social mechanisms are realized when home care services are implemented? BACKGROUND Several older persons are dependent on home care services for their continued living at home. The fundamental value and best practice of home care is the client-centred care in services. METHOD The research method was realistic evaluation. Six families with six older person clients of home care and seven family members were interviewed. In the present study, the interview contained three themes (1) content and services of the home care, (2) activities and practices of the home care and (3) development of client centredness in home care. Research data were analysed with deductive content analysis. RESULTS Home care service should be based on analysis of older person's individual life situation. Social mechanisms such as interaction, participation, trust and adaptation are realised in implementation of home care services. The most significant outcomes of client-centred service were timely availability of services, safe care relationship and continuity of care, ability to influence on own services and appropriate price of services. Significant factors in quality of service were unhurriedness, kindness and competence of professionals. IMPLICATION FOR PRACTICE Social mechanisms, such as participation, trust, adaptation and interaction, should be taken in account in care relationship in home care. Client centredness and methods for evaluating it should be defined in practical work. Client-centeredness competence should also be included in all stages of professional education of home care.

Abstract
In an effort to provide clarity about the unique contributions of several professions within the context of multidisciplinary treatment, we reviewed the definitions, philosophical underpinnings, and national requirements pertaining to both scopes of practice (i.e., model licensing acts, legislation, and regulatory boards) and training (i.e., task lists, accreditation standards and course requirements, and exam blueprints) of 4 behavioral health professions. The professions we selected (behavior analysis, psychology, speech-language pathology, and occupational therapy) are likely to provide treatment alongside one another and often to the same clients. In a review of documents pertaining to scopes of practice and training for each profession, we found overlapping content. However, the similarities between professions diminished when we reviewed more specific guidelines such as learning objectives, educational requirements (i.e., coursework), supervised clinical experience (e.g., internships), and national examinations. This was especially true when considering each profession's underlying approach to treatment (i.e., philosophical underpinnings) and, hence, service activities. We discuss our findings in light of service overlap and make a call for greater collaboration between professions, as related to the separate content knowledge and expertise of professionals in each field and the impact on client outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) is intended to help clients identify and evaluate their occupational performance issues. As it enhances client-centred practice (CCP), more frequent use of the COPM might fulfill the political agenda of patient involvement in Denmark. However, in a study translating the COPM into Danish, challenges were found highlighting the need to study its clinical utility. AIM To examine the clinical utility of the Danish version of the COPM (COPM-DK) and help determine whether to recommend a more routinely use. METHODS Data gathered during qualitative interviews with 16 occupational therapists (OTs) from various settings were subjected to a qualitative content analysis. RESULTS The COPM-DK appeared to have clinical utility, especially regarding the meaning and relevance of the information obtained, and seemed to facilitate an occupational lens and CCP. The OTs' difficulties and concerns when using the COPM and their personal and environmental commitment to the COPM seemed associated with how they performed the COPM. Thus, training was recommended to facilitate a valid and reliable use. CONCLUSION Given the benefits and the perceived utility of the COPM-DK, a more routinely use, to place OTs and CCP in the center of Danish healthcare system, is recommended.Key MessagesThe utility of the Danish version of the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure is supported, according to Danish occupational therapists in various rehabilitation settings and hospitals.Using the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure seems to enhance a client-centred practice with collaborative goals and helps to establish partnership, being of value to the interdisciplinary team, too.The utility and acceptability of the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure seemed to be linked to the occupational therapists' experience and understanding of the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure's content and form, thus an introduction course is recommended to avoid a use that affects the assessment's validity and reliability.

Abstract
RÉSUMÉCette étude a examiné les mécanismes complexes intervenant lors de la prestation de soins axés sur la personne et la famille (SAPF) par des équipes de soins gériatriques à domicile. Une approche par synthèse réaliste a été utilisée pour élaborer un cadre d’évaluation qui a inclus 159 références provenant de la littérature scientifique, des consultations d’experts canadiens en SAPF, des recherches ciblées dans les bases PubMed/MEDLINE® et CINAHL, et des recensions de la littérature grise canadienne. Les références ont été sélectionnées par deux personnes, selon une approche consensuelle avec évaluation de la qualité. Les données ont été extraites et synthétisées en tenant compte du contexte, des mécanismes et des configurations des résultats dans un cadre théorique de SAPF d’équipe pour les soins gériatriques à domicile. Le cadre présente les contributions spécifiques prédominantes des infirmières, des ergothérapeutes et des physiothérapeutes, leurs apports collectifs impliquant des communications pour des équipes virtuelles, ainsi que le soutien du système nécessité pour la prestation de SAPF d’équipe complets. Les résultats de cette étude pourraient contribuer à l’amélioration de l’éducation sur les SAPF et des lignes directrices sur les pratiques exemplaires, en vue d’assurer une prestation plus intégrée des SAPF dans les soins gériatriques offerts à domicile ou dans d’autres milieux comportant des équipes de soins.

Abstract
RESUMO O objetivo do estudo foi verificar se existem diferenças na força muscular dos membros inferiores (MMII) e na habilidade de locomoção de indivíduos pós-acidente vascular encefálico (AVE) crônico, classificados como deambuladores comunitários ou não comunitários. Foi realizado um estudo transversal em 60 indivíduos pós-AVE crônico, divididos em deambuladores comunitários (n=33) e não comunitários (n=27) pela velocidade de marcha. A força muscular de sete grupos musculares bilaterais de MMII foi avaliada por meio do teste do esfigmomanômetro modificado e habilidade de locomoção pelo ABILOCO. Estatísticas descritivas foram utilizadas para caracterizar a amostra, e o teste t de Student para amostras independentes, a fim de comparar os dois grupos de indivíduos pós-AVE. Observou-se que os deambuladores comunitários apresentaram maiores valores de força muscular para a maioria dos grupos musculares de MMII (−0,973≥t≥−3,189; p≤0,04), e na habilidade de locomoção (t=−2,841; p=0,006). Os indivíduos pós-AVE crônico deambuladores comunitários possuem maior força muscular de MMII e mais habilidade de locomoção em comparação aos deambuladores não comunitários. Sugere-se que a avaliação fisioterapêutica de indivíduos pós-AVE inclua, além da mensuração da força muscular de MMII e seu tratamento, a mensuração da percepção da habilidade de locomoção, para análises da evolução do paciente e da eficácia da conduta terapêutica.

Abstract
Background With an expected increase in the prevalence of dementia, change in care policies and healthcare systems worldwide is needed. Rehabilitation is increasingly recognised as contributing to dementia care. Rehabilitation subscribes to person-centredness, and thus, evaluations of person-centredness in rehabilitation for people living with dementia are relevant in order for healthcare professionals to know how best to practice person-centredness. Aim The aim of this study was to identify methods of evaluating person-centeredness in rehabilitation for people living with dementia. Materials and Methods Review of the literature using the search terms dementia, person-centredness, and rehabilitation or occupational therapy. Databases searched included: CINAHL, PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, OTseeker, and SveMed+. The study included peer-reviewed articles from year 2000 to 2018 in Danish, English, Norwegian, or Swedish. Results Only one academic article met the inclusion criteria. In that article, person-centred practice was evaluated using observation and interview as well as analytical frameworks from person-centred care and occupational therapy. Conclusion Evaluations of person-centred practice in rehabilitation for people living with dementia in peer-reviewed literature are lacking. Evaluations are needed to identify effective strategies to pursue and uphold person-centred care. Given the dearth of research on evaluations of person-centredness in rehabilitation, this article included research in person-centred dementia care in the discussion, which potentially can inspire practice and research of rehabilitation for people living with dementia. To understand the complex nature of person-centredness, a variety of research methodologies of qualitative and quantitative characters are recommended for evaluations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Occupations define activities that people perform to occupy themselves and that people have meaning and value to them. The use of occupation-based intervention addresses activity daily of living performance. OBJECTIVES This study was to investigate the effects of occupation-based interventions on performance's quality for hemiparetic stroke in community-dwelling. METHODS Forty-three participants were enrolled in this study with a full understanding of the purpose and method of the research and had a diagnosis with hemiparetic stroke. Participants were randomized to one of two treatment groups: Experimental group (n = 23) or control groups (n = 20). The experimental group applied occupation-based intervention and control group applied action focusing intervention. All participants underwent ten treatment sessions during the study period and conducted pre- and post-assessment. Several instruments were used to measure quality of performance. RESULTS After the intervention training, the qualities of occupational performance were significantly higher in the experimental group applied occupation-based intervention than the control group applied action focusing intervention (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Based on the results of this study, occupation-based intervention has positive effects on quality of performing daily activities and occupational activities independently in persons with hemiparetic stroke.

Abstract
Purpose: This study identified occupational therapists' viewpoints that guide their practice of upper limb orthosis prescription for children with cerebral palsy (CP).Methods: A qualitative study utilising Q methodology explored participants' viewpoints. Thirty-nine occupational therapists (38 females) were purposively recruited to rank statements generated from interviews of experienced clinicians and peer reviewed and published literature. Statements about reasons for orthoses prescription, were ranked according to what guides decision making the most to least. Data from ranked statements were analysed using by-person factor analysis to reveal the different ways statements were grouped. The resultant factors, based on the average arrangement of statements associated with each factor, were interpreted and named as viewpoints.Results: Viewpoints identified: 1. Potential effect of the orthosis (n = 12 sorts); 2. Biomechanical presentation (n = 12 sorts); and 3. Client/therapist relationship (n = 10 sorts). The "Client's goals" statement was ranked highest across all viewpoints.Conclusions: Viewpoints identified may inform development of clinical guidelines. Further research is required to (i) identify valid and reliable classification and assessment tools to guide decision making; and (ii) establish the mechanism of the effect of orthotic intervention by considering the link between the biomechanical purpose of the orthosis (e.g., mobilise tissue) and aim of intervention (prevent contracture).Implications for rehabilitationQ methodology provided an opportunity to identify viewpoints of occupational therapists that guide their upper extremity orthosis prescription decision making.Consistent with best-practice, clients' goals were the primary focus of decision making in each viewpoint.It is recommended that clinicians consider the identified viewpoints; 1) the potential effects of the orthosis, 2) the biomechanical presentation of the child, within 3) an established client/therapist relationship when prescribing upper extremity orthoses.Practice guidelines to inform upper limb orthotic intervention may be developed using the identified viewpoints.

Abstract
Purpose: The validity, responsiveness, and clinical utility of the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure was investigated when used in a sub-acute setting.Materials and Methods: Fifty older adults (mean age 78.2 years, Standard Deviation = 7.2; 64% female) completed the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure, Functional Independence Measure and the Short-Form 36 Health Questionnaire. The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure was correlated with the Functional Independence Measure and Short-Form 36 Health Questionnaire and the admission and discharge Canadian Occupational Performance Measure Performance and Satisfaction scores were compared for significant differences. Qualitative interviews with were completed with six older adults and six occupational therapists to explore the utility of the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure.Results: The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure Satisfaction scale was significantly associated with the Functional Independence Measure and Short-Form 36 Health Questionnaire. Significant differences were found between the admission and discharge Canadian Occupational Performance Measure Performance and Satisfaction scale scores. From both the clients' and therapists' perspectives, four key qualitative themes emerged: (1) "Likes" about the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure; (2) Effects on practice; (3) Utility; and (4) Future use.Conclusions: This study provides evidence of the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure's validity, responsiveness and clinical utility when used in a sub-acute setting.Implications for rehabilitationThe Canadian Occupational Performance Measure appears able to effectively evaluate the outcomes of occupational therapy interventions, including in sub-acute rehabilitation settings. It is an individualized outcome measure where clients are responsible for measuring their own progress and meaningful outcomes from therapy.Evidence of the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure's convergent validity, predictive validity and responsiveness to change was found which contributes to the body of knowledge of its psychometric properties.From a qualitative perspective, the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure was found to improve clinical decision making, facilitating client engagement, formulating clear treatment goals and making therapy more meaningful for clients.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Occupational therapy (OT) is defined as the promotion of client health and well-being through a client-centred practice. However, there is a tendency to rely on the therapist's experiences and values, and there is a difference between the client's and therapist's perceptions regarding the current activity that the client is engaged in. In previous studies that have applied 'flow', activities supported by OT in elderly people were analysed, indicating a difference in recognition. Therefore, we thought that more effective OT could be implemented by adjusting the challenge-skill (ACS) balance, and we invented a novel process termed as ACS balance for OT. The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of ACS-OT on clients in the recovery rehabilitation unit and to prepare a protocol for randomised controlled trial (RCT) implementation. METHOD AND ANALYSIS This single-blind RCT will recruit 80 clients aged 50-99 years admitted to the recovery rehabilitation unit who meet eligibility criteria. Clients will be randomly allocated to receive ACS-OT or standard OT. Both interventions will be performed during the clients' residence at the unit. The primary outcome measure will be subjective quality of life and will be measured at entry into (pre) and at discharge from (post) the unit and at 3 months afterwards (follow-up). Outcomes will be analysed using a linear mixed model fitted with a maximum likelihood estimation. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION This protocol has been approved by the ethics review committee of the Tokyo Metropolitan University (No.17020). Abstract
BACKGROUND Communication skills such as listening, empathy and body language are core competencies that entry level occupational therapy students must demonstrate when completing practice placements. OBJECTIVE To investigate if interpersonal skills taught to undergraduate occupational therapy students predict their practice performance. METHODS Second, third and fourth year occupational therapy students (n = 132) completed the Active-Empathetic Listening Scale (AELS); the Listening Styles Profile-Revised (LSP-R); and the Interpersonal Communication Competence Scale (ICCS). The Student Practice Evaluation Form-Revised (SPEF-R) measured students' performance at the completion of a placement. Regression analysis examined the relationships between students' interpersonal and listening skills and their fieldwork performance. RESULTS Higher ICCS Interaction Management subscale scores were significantly associated with better SPEF-R Communication Skills at final evaluation (β = 1.46, p < 0.05). Higher AELS Sensing subscale scores were predictive of greater Self-Management Skill performance on the SPEF-R (β = 0.84, SE = 0.42). Student's demographic characteristics were also predictive of their SPEF-R scores. The ICCS and LSP-R's subscale scores were not predictive of SPEF-R scores. CONCLUSION This preliminary evidence identified several interpersonal skills that were predictive of some key SPEF-R competencies. To better prepare students to successfully complete practice placements, these interpersonal skills should be incorporated into occupational therapy education curriculum.

Abstract
Introduction Goal-setting in client-centred occupational therapy is often problematic. The Assessment of Client's Enablement was developed to measure the gap between an occupational therapist's and client's ratings of occupational performance. This study examines the reliability and convergent validity of the assessment. Method The assessment was used by 22 occupational therapists with 44 clients. Convergent validity was examined between the assessment (client, occupational therapist and gap scores), Canadian Occupational Performance Measure performance and Functional Independence Measure scores. Test–retest reliability was assessed by intraclass correlation coefficient. Forty-four clients participated in the test–retest reliability study. Findings Good-to-moderate correlation was found in the assessment scores (intraclass correlation coefficients of 0.86, 0.95 and 0.78 for client, occupational therapist and gap scores, respectively). The validation study was completed by 34 clients. The correlation between Canadian Occupational Performance Measure and Assessment of Client's Enablement scores was significant (client score, Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation (rs) = 0.47; occupational therapist score, rs = 0.45). The correlation between Functional Independence Measure and the assessment's occupational therapist scores was significant (rs = 0.43). Conclusion The study confirms the reliability and convergent validity of the Assessment of Client's Enablement. The assessment requires less time to administer than similar instruments and requires no formal training, making it feasible in rehabilitation settings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To assess the psychometric properties and feasibility of the Finnish translation of the measure of processes of care for adults (MPOC-A) when used in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. DESIGN: A feasibility study. SETTINGS: Inpatient rehabilitation settings. SUBJECTS: A total of 858 people with severe neurological disabilities, musculoskeletal problems, and mental disorders were recruited to the study. METHODS: The MPOC-A questionnaire is a self-administered questionnaire consisting of 34 items in five-factorial domains. The construct validity of the translated questionnaire was evaluated using confirmatory factor analysis. To compare the fit of the model to the fit of the independent null-model Comparative Fit Index was used. Internal consistency for the total scale and subscales was calculated using Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient. RESULTS: A total of 554 people, mean age 52 years (SD = 9), participated in the study. Most of the responders had musculoskeletal problems ( n = 328, 57%). The respondents rated the client-centeredness in rehabilitation service as moderate ( m = 5.40, SD = 0.81). The five-factor and the one-factor model fitted the data well according to all three indices. Internal consistency showed high reliability between the one-factor and five-factor models for all except one domain (0.49-0.93). The mean for Person Infit for the people with neurological disabilities was higher than for the other two groups ( m = 1.77, SD = 1.32) indicating less predictable response patterns in this group. CONCLUSION: The results confirm the appropriate psychometric properties of the Finnish version of the MPOC-A, especially for people with musculoskeletal problems and those with mental health disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The active participation of clients is an important aspect of rehabilitation quality as conceptualized in client-centred practice (CCP). A recommended outcome measure for enhancing CCP is the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM). However, the relationship between COPM use and CCP enhancement has not been documented. AIM The aim of this study was to examine whether the use of the COPM enhanced CCP. METHODS We performed a scoping review in five steps: (1) identifying a search strategy with inclusion and exclusion criteria; (2) screening relevant databases for published and unpublished studies by using selected keywords and by manually scrutinizing reference lists; (3) agreeing on eligible papers between authors in terms of inclusion and exclusion criteria; (4) charting included data; and (5) analysing data using qualitative content analysis. RESULTS Twelve studies were included in the review. The results indicated enhanced CCP in two themes when using the COPM. These themes appeared to influence each other; therefore, the first theme, Conditions for enhancing CCP when using the COPM, represented the circumstances needed for the second theme, Enhancing CCP when using the COPM, to be fulfilled. CONCLUSION The use of the COPM seems to enhance CCP if certain conditions are present.

Abstract
Introduction Several barriers challenge the use of occupation-based interventions in hand therapy. An outpatient clinical setting can be prepared in such a way as to address the most common occupational performance problems which might promote an occupation-based intervention. To this end, more knowledge is needed about which problems patients with hand-related disorders consider most important. Methods Interviews using the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM)were conducted with 507 patients. Data were entered into Microsoft Excel in the COPM categories: Self-care, productivity and leisure and analysed using descriptive statistics. Data concerning main problem areas were categorized according to the Taxonomic Code of Occupational Performance (TCOP). The analysis included the number of prioritized occupational performance problems (NPOPP) in each COPM category/subcategory; the NPOPP in each category is relative to gender and age and the most frequent problems. Results The total NPOPP was 2384. Problems within productivity and self-care constituted the largest proportion, respectively, 46% and 40%. Gender or age affected the NPOPP in each category to a limited extend. Problems were expressed at all levels in the TCOP, except the lowest level. The most frequently expressed problem was use of utensils when eating. Conclusion The problems mostly concern productivity and self-care, regardless of gender or age. Patients consider problems at the levels of occupation, activities, tasks and actions to be important and meaningful to address in their intervention. This study provides useful knowledge that can be applied when preparing a setting to address the most common problems, which could lead to the promotion of occupation-based interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Patient-reported outcome measures are increasingly used to evaluate effectiveness of treatment. However, the use of 'paper and pencil' questionnaires is time-consuming for both patients and healthcare specialists. Therefore, the aim of this project was to develop a custom-built web-based monitoring system. TECHNIQUE We incorporated reliable and valid questionnaires on all domains of human functioning as described in the World Health Organization's Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF and ICF-CY). The method of remote follow-up enables long-term evaluation of PROMs. We specified monitoring protocols for both children and adults, split for different age groups with emphasis on health-related quality of life. DISCUSSION Time-efficient evaluation of PROMs may lead to higher compliance and an increase of client-centred practice. Moreover, evaluating PROMs facilitates patient empowerment and enables patients to make informed decisions about their treatment and healthcare needs. Clinical relevance We developed a web-based system for evaluation of PROMs. The system has enabled better informed decision-making for our clients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine perspectives of multiple stakeholders to inform the design of an app-based coaching intervention to promote social participation in teenagers with traumatic brain injury (TBI). METHODS Teenagers and college students with and without TBI and parents of teenagers with TBI were recruited from two children's hospitals and two universities in the USA (n = 39). Data were collected via interviews, focus groups, and surveys and examined using descriptive statistics and content analyses. RESULTS Teenagers with TBI reported more social participation barriers and fewer strategies for addressing these barriers than teenagers without TBI. There was consensus across groups about the value of college student coaches and use of smartphones and apps. Participants expressed mixed views on the use of chat rooms and degree of parent involvement. CONCLUSION Results provided insights about the possible benefits of the intervention, and informed its initial design (e.g., desired coach qualities, and type of coach training and supervision).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ergonomic education in housework that aims to facilitate behavior change is important for women with upper limb repetitive strain injury. Therapists usually conduct such programs based on implicit reasoning. Making this reasoning explicit is important in contributing to the profession's knowledge. AIM To construct a conceptual representation of how occupational therapists make clinical decisions for such program. METHOD Based on a constructivist-grounded theory methodology, data were collected through in-depth interviewing with 14 occupational therapists from a major hospital in Singapore. Interviews were audiotaped and transcribed. Data was analyzed with line by line, focused and axial coding with constant data comparison throughout data collection. RESULTS Therapists made clinical decisions based on their perceptions of their clients' behavior change in three stages: (i) listen; (ii) try; and (iii) persevere, bearing significant similarities to the transtheoretical theory of change. The study also showed that therapists may not have considered the full range of meanings that their clients attach to housework when interacting with them, a gap that needs to be addressed. CONCLUSIONS The present study indicates the importance of therapists' understanding of the meanings that their clients attach to housework. Further research needs to address how to achieve this in a time-pressured clinical environment. Implications for Rehabilitation This study used qualitative research to demonstrate the process of translating therapists' tacit knowledge into an explicit form. It elucidates the following major implications for practice when therapists conduct ergonomic education to facilitate behavior change in housework for female homemakers with upper limb RSI:The conceptual framework of clinical reasoning constructed from the results can be used to increase therapists' awareness of how they make clinical decisions during an intervention. This framework can also be used for training new therapists. It is important for therapists to actively listen to their clients. Active listening will enable the therapists to understand and consider the personal meanings that these women attach to housework in order to facilitate a behavior change. Client-therapist interactions to facilitate clients' willingness to change should become a major focus in such a program. Similar research should be conducted in other clinical areas to develop explicit clinical reasoning frameworks to facilitate learning of novice therapists and reflection of experienced therapists to address any gap in their clinical reasoning.

Abstract
Statement of context The Danish Health Authority recommends that patients with brain tumours should have their rehabilitation needs evaluated prior to hospital discharge. Critical reflection on practice To our knowledge, no specific recommendations for specialised occupational therapy intervention in patients with glioma have been published. We rationalise how occupational therapy practices founded on shared decision-making and common goal-setting are implicated to patients with brain tumours and elaborate on how an occupation-centred approach with occupation-focused and based intervention has the potential to impact a patient’s performance ability and satisfaction in performing occupations established by the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure. This practice was embedded in a randomised controlled trial investigating the effectiveness of intensive rehabilitation efforts and involving occupational therapy compared with standard care in patients with glioma (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT02221986). Implications for practice Occupational therapy makes an important contribution in neurorehabilitation, which may also apply to patients with brain tumours.

Abstract
The Hebrew IPA charts describe the sibilants /s, z/ as 'alveolar fricatives', where the place of articulation on the palate is the alveolar ridge. The point of constriction on the tongue is not defined - apical (tip) or laminal (blade). Usually, speech and language pathologists (SLPs) use the apical placement in Hebrew articulation therapy. Some researchers and SLPs suggested that acceptable /s, z/ could be also produced with the laminal placement (i.e. the tip of the tongue approximating the lower incisors). The present study focused at the clinical level, attempting to determine the prevalence of these alternative points of constriction on the tongue for /s/ and /z/ in three different samples of Hebrew-speaking young adults (total n = 242), with typical articulation. Around 60% of the participants reported using the laminal position, regardless of several speaker-related variables (e.g. tongue-thrust swallowing, gender). Laminal production was more common in /s/ (than /z/), coda (than onset) position of the sibilant, mono- (than di-) syllabic words, and with non-alveolar (than alveolar) adjacent consonants. Experiment 3 revealed no acoustical differences between apical and laminal productions of /s/ and of /z/. From a clinical perspective, we wish to raise the awareness of SLPs to the prevalence of the two placements when treating Hebrew speakers, noting that tongue placements were highly correlated across sibilants. Finally, we recommend adopting a client-centred practice, where tongue placement is matched to the client. We further recommend selecting targets for intervention based on our findings, and separating between different prosodic positions in treatment.

Abstract
Background. There is a need for a conceptual practice model that explicates ecological complexities involved in using occupation to optimize the quality of life of institutionalized people with dementia. Purpose. This study aimed to prepare the Lived Environment Life Quality Model, a dementia-specific conceptual practice model of occupational therapy in institutional facilities, for publication and application to practice. Method. Interviews and focus groups with six expert occupational therapists were subjected to qualitative content analysis to confirm, disconfirm, and further develop the model. Findings. The model’s lived-environment domain as the focus of assessment and intervention was extensively confirmed, and its quality-of-life domain as the focus of intervention goals and outcomes was both confirmed and further developed. Implications. As confirmed in this study, the Lived Environment Life Quality Model is a client-centred, ecologically valid, and occupation-focused guide to optimizing quality of life of institutionalized adults with dementia in present moments and progressively over time.
