Abstract
BACKGROUND People with intellectual and sensory or sensory-motor disabilities tend to have problems performing multistep tasks. To alleviate their problems, technological solutions have been developed that provide task-step instructions. Instructions are generally delivered at people's request (eg, as they touch an area of a computer or tablet screen) or automatically, at preset intervals. OBJECTIVE This study carried out a preliminary assessment of a new tablet-based technology system that presented task-step instructions when participants with intellectual and sensory disabilities walked close to the tablet (ie, did not require participants to perform fine motor responses on the tablet screen). METHODS The system entailed a tablet and a wireless camera and was programmed to present instructions when participants approached the tablet, that is, when the camera positioned in front of the tablet detected them. Two instructions were available for each task step. One instruction concerned the object(s) that the participants were to collect, and the other instruction concerned the "where" and "how" the object(s) collected would need to be used. For 3 of the six participants, the two instructions were presented in succession, with the second instruction presented once the required object(s) had been collected. For the other 3 participants, the two instructions were presented simultaneously. Instructions consisted of pictorial representations combined with brief verbal phrases. The impact of the system was assessed for each of the 2 groups of participants using a nonconcurrent multiple baseline design across individuals. RESULTS All participants were successful in using the system. Their mean frequency of correct task steps was close to or above 11.5 for tasks including 12 steps. Their level of correct performance tended to be much lower during the baseline phase when they were to receive the task-step instructions from a regular tablet through scrolling responses. CONCLUSIONS The findings, which need to be interpreted with caution given the preliminary nature of the study, suggest that the new tablet-based technology system might be useful for helping people with intellectual and sensory disabilities perform multistep tasks.

Abstract
AICA ribosiduria is an ultra-rare disorder of de novo purine biosynthesis associated with developmental delay of varying severity, seizures, and varying degrees of visual impairment due to chorioretinal atrophy. Caused by biallelic pathogenic variants in ATIC, accumulation of AICA-riboside is the biochemical hallmark and presumed pathomechanism of the condition. In this study, we report the case of a teenage patient compound-heterozygous for the variants c.1277 A > G (p.K426R) and c.642G > C (p.Q214H) in ATIC, with the latter not previously reported. Excessive secretion of AICA-riboside and succinyladenosine was significantly reduced following the introduction of a purine-enriched diet. By suppressing de novo purine biosynthesis in favour of purine salvage, exogenous purine substitution represents a promising treatment approach for AICA ribosiduria. SYNOPSIS: Suppression of de novo purine biosynthesis by increased exogeneous purine supply leads to decreased accumulation of AICA-riboside and succinyl-adenosine and thus is a promising treatment approach for AICA ribosiduria.

Abstract
PURPOSE The prevalence of sleep difficulties among children with rare genetic neurodevelopmental conditions (RGNC) is high. Behavioral interventions are commonly used in the treatment of sleep difficulties in children with neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism, however, research is scarce in children with RGNC. The range of co-occurring complexities within this population, means there is a need for research to not only determine the effectiveness of behavioral sleep interventions, but also which components might be the least restrictive (i.e., intensive/aversive) and minimally sufficient. METHODS This study used a single-case multiple baseline design to investigate the effectiveness and acceptability of behavioral sleep interventions, indicated within a Functional Behavior formulation in eight children with RGNC (M = 7.3 years). Intervention components were sequentially administered across up to three phases, based on the principle of less restriction (from least to relatively more intensive) to determine what might be minimally sufficient. RESULTS Results showed an improvement in sleep onset latency, night wakings, early morning waking and unwanted bed-sharing for 7/7, 6/7, 3/3 and 3/3 children respectively. Improvement was observed for most participants following the less restrictive phases of intervention (circadian modifications, antecedent modifications and positive reinforcement), however, more restrictive, albeit modified, extinction procedures were still implemented for five participants. Improvements were maintained at follow-up and interventions were deemed acceptable to parents. CONCLUSIONS Less restrictive function-based behavioral strategies are an effective, and in some cases sufficient, contribution to a sequence of interventions for a range of sleep difficulties. They should be implemented first, before more restrictive strategies.

Abstract
Background and aims This study was conducted in a clinical setting with the aim of replicating previously used procedures for teaching receptive vocabulary. Researchers increased the number of vocabulary words and maintained use of match-to-sample (MtS), prompting, and reinforcement procedures. Researchers were also interested in the efficacy of the intervention from caregivers' perspectives. Methods Using a concurrent multiple baseline design, two autistic preschoolers with receptive language impairment were taught to identify 30 common objects. MtS, prompting, and reinforcement procedures were individualized to support each child. Maintenance checks and generalization probes were completed after a predetermined number of intervention sessions (i.e. three or four clinic sessions). A social validity questionnaire was completed by parents following the final maintenance check. Results Receptive object identification improved significantly for both participants. Despite exposure to vocabulary targets for only three or four sessions, they generalized the vocabulary targets to non-identical pictures and maintained words at maintenance checks. Participants were most successful when researchers individualized prompting and reinforcement. Conclusion MtS, prompting, and reinforcement were effective procedures for improving object identification, even with a limited number of intervention sessions. To support varying learner profiles, modifying prompting and reinforcement procedures was necessary. Caregivers of both participants reported positive improvements in areas such as communication, attention, and behaviors. Implications This replicated study provides support for MtS, prompting, and reinforcement as means of teaching receptive vocabulary to autistic preschoolers in a clinical setting. The materials used were simple and cost-effective. Overall, this study outlines and supports a flexible and effective evidence-based practice to teach receptive language to autistic children.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this multiple probe design was (a) to investigate whether the use of the match-to-sample (MtS) procedure would result in independent identification of objects and (b) to examine whether the participants could generalize to matching objects and nonidentical pictures. METHOD Using a nonconcurrent multiple baseline design, three minimally verbal preschoolers with autism spectrum disorder and receptive language impairment were taught to identify common objects using a MtS procedure and physical prompts. Participants were taught to match identical objects to identical pictures. Maintenance checks were completed following mastery of vocabulary for a total of 22 words. Generalization probes were conducted with the objects and nonidentical pictures. Intervention was completed by a speech-language pathologist during typical speech-language pathology sessions. RESULTS Results illustrated that all of the participants learned to match and generalize the pictures. All were able to independently identify the objects at 1-month follow-up. CONCLUSIONS MtS and prompting appear to be effective procedures for teaching receptive vocabulary and can be easily implemented by education professionals. Learner profiles varied for the participants in this study and are an important aspect when teaching students with autism spectrum disorder and co-occurring receptive language impairment.

Abstract
The Integrated Therapy Model is a practice framework designed to promote multi-disciplinary collaboration to accommodate the holistic needs of children with special education needs. This study evaluated the effectiveness of the model adopted in a pilot preschool in China on children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A single-case, ABAB reversal design was employed with three children with ASD, and data were collected using direct observation and semi-structured interviews. The results demonstrated that while the model piloted in China was effective at improving fine motor ability, gross motor ability, imitation and problem behavior, it had mild to questionable effects on self-care and independent living capacity. The implications for the practice and for research on preschool interventions in mainland China is discussed.

Abstract
Single-case experimental designs often require extended baselines or the withdrawal of treatment, which may not be feasible or ethical in some practical settings. The quasi-experimental AB design is a potential alternative, but more research is needed on its validity. The purpose of our study was to examine the validity of using nonoverlap measures of effect size to detect changes in AB designs using simulated data. In our analyses, we determined thresholds for three effect size measures beyond which the type I error rate would remain below 0.05 and then examined whether using these thresholds would provide sufficient power. Overall, our analyses show that some effect size measures may provide adequate control over type I error rate and sufficient power when analyzing data from AB designs. In sum, our results suggest that practitioners may use quasi-experimental AB designs in combination with effect size to rigorously assess progress in practice.

Abstract
There are currently a multitude of quantification techniques that have been developed for use with single-case designs. As a result, choosing an appropriate quantification technique can be overwhelming and it can be difficult for researchers to properly describe and justify their use of quantification techniques. However, providing clear descriptions and justifications is important for enhancing the credibility of single-case research, and allowing others to evaluate the appropriateness of the quantification technique used. The aim of this systematic literature review is to provide an overview of the quantification techniques that are used to analyze single-case designs, with a focus on the descriptions and justifications that are provided. A total of 290 quantifications occurred across 218 articles, and the descriptions and justifications that were provided for the quantification techniques that were used are systematically examined. Results show that certain quantification techniques, such as the non-overlap indices, are more commonly used. Descriptions and justifications provided for using the quantification techniques are sometimes vague or subjective. Single-case researchers are encouraged to complement visual analysis with the use of quantification techniques for which they can provide objective and appropriate descriptions and justifications, and are encouraged to use tools to guide their choice of quantification techniques.

Abstract
Multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) are effective in addressing challenges in schools through a tiered system of support and diagnostics. A broad field of research has developed over the past 50 years. This systematic literature review aims to provide an overview of MTSS quality, outcomes, and characteristics in elementary education research. The review includes international studies and focuses on MTSS approaches that integrate behavior modification. After searching several databases, 40 studies published between 2004 and 2020 met the criteria for closer examination. The review presents study characteristics and theoretical references of different MTSS, including location, time, sample, study design, outcome measures, groups involved, interventions, and effects. In summary, MTSS have been found to be effective in elementary schools internationally, particularly for behavior change. Future studies should investigate the interactions between interventions within the school setting and involve teachers, school staff, and stakeholders in MTSS development to improve the system's coherence and effectiveness. It's important to note that MTSS have a political dimension that affects implementation and sustainability and can impact society by improving school experiences and reducing negative behaviors.

Abstract
Relapsing-remitting Multiple Sclerosis is the most common demyelinating neurodegenerative disease and is characterized by periods of relapses and generation of various motor symptoms. These symptoms are associated with the corticospinal tract integrity, which is quantified by means of corticospinal plasticity which can be probed via transcranial magnetic stimulation and assessed with corticospinal excitability measures. Several factors, such as exercise and interlimb coordination, can influence corticospinal plasticity. Previous work in healthy and in chronic stroke survivors showed that the greatest improvement in corticospinal plasticity occurred during in-phase bilateral exercises of the upper limbs. During in-phase bilateral movement, both upper limbs are moving simultaneously, activating the same muscle groups and triggering the same brain region respectively. Altered corticospinal plasticity due to bilateral cortical lesions is common in MS, yet, the impact of these type of exercises in this cohort is unclear. The aim of this concurrent multiple baseline design study is to investigate the effects of in-phase bilateral exercises on corticospinal plasticity and on clinical measures using transcranial magnetic stimulation and standardized clinical assessment in five people with relapsing-remitting MS. The intervention protocol will last for 12 consecutive weeks (30-60 minutes /session x 3 sessions/week) and include in-phase bilateral movements of the upper limbs, adapted to different sports activities and to functional training. To define functional relation between the intervention and the results on corticospinal plasticity (central motor conduction time, resting motor threshold, motor evoked potential amplitude and latency) and on clinical measures (balance, gait, bilateral hand dexterity and strength, cognitive function), we will perform a visual analysis and if there is a potential sizeable effect, we will perform statistical analysis. A possible effect from our study, will introduce a proof-of-concept for this type of exercise that will be effective during disease progression. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT05367947.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate a dog-walking program (called "Dog Buddies") designed to address the need for evidence-based programs that create opportunities for people with cognitive disabilities to be more socially included in mainstream society. The research question was: Does community dog walking foster social interaction for people with cognitive disabilities? MATERIALS AND METHODS Single-case experimental design was used with four individuals (three with intellectual disability; one with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)) recruited via two disability service providers in Victoria. Target behaviours included frequency and nature of encounters between the person with disability and community members. Change was measured from baseline (five community meetings with a handler but no dog) to intervention period (five meetings minimum, with a handler and a dog). Semi-structured interviews, audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim, provided three participants' subjective experiences of the program. RESULTS Dog Buddies increased the frequency of encounters for all participants. The presence of the dog helped to foster convivial encounters, community members were found to be more welcoming, and some participants were recognised or acknowledged by name over time in the intervention phase. CONCLUSIONS The dog-walking program offered a simple means of influencing the frequency and depth of community-based social interactions for people with cognitive disabilities.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThe co-presence of people with disabilities in the community with the general population does not ensure social interaction occurs.Both disability policy, and the programs or support that is provided to people with disabilities, needs to have a strong commitment to the inclusion of people with disabilities in mainstream communities.Dog Buddies is a promising example of a program where the presence of a pet dog has been demonstrated to support convivial, bi-directional encounters of people with cognitive disabilities and other community members.Dog-walking offers a simple means of influencing the frequency and depth of community-based social interactions for people with cognitive disabilities.

Health anxiety (HA) is common in psychiatric and medical settings. Cognitive models of HA highlight the role of misinterpreting physical sensations as dangerous. This report presents the case of a 31-year-old man and the use of a cognitive-behavioural approach to treat his HA which also considers the role of misinterpreting intrusions as abnormal, by drawing on theoretical accounts of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). A single-case experimental design demonstrated reliable improvements in symptom measures of HA and general distress. Distinguishing sensation-based versus intrusion-based appraisals in HA has implications for interventions in health settings and for refining cognitive theory.

Abstract
Mindfulness For Performance is a programme that has been developed over 15 years. It aims to help athletes maintain effective attentional focus regardless of the disruptive sensations and thoughts induced by the performance situation. It is inspired by Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Acceptance Commitment Therapy programmes and has been adapted to the specificities of sport. It is composed of three steps: (a) psychoeducation and identification of the focus of attention, (b) mindfulness and acceptance training, and (c) integrating skills acquired into training and competition. This article reports the effects of MFP in two studies in national basketball players and in young table tennis players. The first study showed that mindfulness skills and free-throw accuracy during basketball games increased more in the experimental group than in the control group. Table tennis results revealed that participants who showed the highest percentage of adherence to the programme benefited more from MFP training in terms of performance outcome (i.e., accumulated points collected from published results compared with the baseline phase) than participants who showed weaker percentages of adherence to the programme. Both studies provided some evidence on the effects of MFP on specific performance indicators (i.e., free-throw accuracy in basketball and ranking points in table tennis), but this needs to be confirmed by further research measuring other relevant performance indicators. The impact and conditions of adherence also deserve more consideration.

Abstract
Gambling's impact on a couple's relationship is an essential element in the gambling disorder (GD). Gamblers tend to lie to their partner to conceal the extent of their gambling problems and debts, which can lead to a serious relational transgression for the couple. One promising avenue is a couple treatment focusing on forgiveness processes. The objective of this study was to determine whether the Integrative Couple Treatment for Pathological Gamblers (ICT-PG) with an emphasis on forgiveness processes helped couples to enhance these processes. A Single-Case Research Design (SCRD) was used with three couples in which one of the members had a GD. The results highlight the importance of jointly analyzing the forgiveness processes between the gamblers and their partner, which constantly influenced each other. These promising results illustrate the relevance of integrating forgiveness processes in treatment for couples where one of the members has a GD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Evidence for the treatment of bipolar affective disorder with cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) is limited, and so this study sought to intensively evaluate outcomes in a co-produced single-case experimental design (SCED). DESIGN An A1 /B/A2 /C with extended follow-up SCED with a female patient meeting diagnostic criteria for bipolar disorder. METHODS Following the 6-week baseline period 'A1 ', treatment occurred in two phases (18 'B' and 6 sessions 'C') sandwiching a 12-week treatment withdrawal phase ('A2 ') and a 24-week structured follow-up phase. Five idiographic daily measures were collected daily to create a 622-day timeline. The PHQ-9 and the Mania Rating Scale were completed after each treatment session. The participant held two roles: as the patient and provider of the idiographic/nomothetic outcomes and also as part of the research team through providing a commentary on the outcomes identified. RESULTS CAT was a partially effective intervention. There were improvements to idiographic measures of self-criticism, self-acceptance, body dissatisfaction and worry. Nomothetic outcomes showed little change. CAT did not insulate from the occurrence of a hypermanic relapse during the follow-up phase. The change commentary mirrored the idiographic outcomes in noting that the 'exits' were harder to implement during the manic relapse. CONCLUSIONS This co-produced SCED suggests a partially effective CAT intervention, but with exits much harder to sustain during manic relapse. Methodologically, it is possible to improve SCED methodology through widening the participant role further beyond that of data collection.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study assessed everyday technology to help eight participants with intellectual and sensory-motor disabilities access stimulation via functional arm/hand responses and improved body posture. METHODS An ABABB1BB1 design was used for each participant, with A representing baseline phases, B intervention phases in which arm/hand responses led to a 12-s stimulation, and B1 intervention phases in which the stimulation for arm/hand responses was conditional on an improved/correct torso and head posture. The technology involved a Samsung Galaxy A10 smartphone fitted with Google Assistant and MacroDroid, a mini voice-recording device, and a portable mini voice amplifier. RESULTS All participants had a large increase in arm/hand responses from the baseline periods to the B and B1 phases. They also had a large increase in correct posture from the B phases to the B1 phases. CONCLUSION This technology-aided approach may be a helpful resource for people similar to the participants of this study.

Abstract
The lifetime prevalence of OCD in the UK is estimated to be between 1 in 100 and 1 in every 50 people. It is therefore necessary to explore innovations in practice to expand the reach of the gold standard therapeutic approaches of exposure with response prevention (ERP) and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). The COVID-19 pandemic has facilitated such innovations with several services accommodating changes to routine practice by utilising digital platforms to provide videoconference-delivered therapy. Despite a growing evidence base demonstrating efficacy and scope for the use of videoconference-delivered CBT for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), there remains qualitative research collated from clinicians which suggests that a lack of practitioner confidence and a low belief in positive outcomes are barriers to adopting remote therapy practices for clinicians. Therefore, this structured case report describes the assessment, formulation, intervention and outcome of an 11-week videoconference-delivered therapeutic intervention. Reflections are made regarding the use of the digital platform throughout the intervention, alongside the strengths and difficulties of applying videoconference-delivered CBT for OCD.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide a brief introduction to effect size calculation in single-subject design studies, including a description of nonparametric and regression-based effect sizes. We then focus the rest of the tutorial on common regression-based methods used to calculate effect size in single-subject experimental studies. We start by first describing the difference between five regression-based methods (Gorsuch, White et al., Center et al., Allison and Gorman, Huitema and McKean). This is followed by an example using the five regression-based effect size methods and a demonstration how these methods can be applied using a sample data set. In this way, the question of how the values obtained from different effect size methods differ was answered. The specific regression models used in these five regression-based methods and how these models can be obtained from the SPSS program were shown. R2 values obtained from these five methods were converted to Cohen's d value and compared in this study. The d values obtained from the same data set were estimated as 0.003, 0.357, 2.180, 3.470, and 2.108 for the Allison and Gorman, Gorsuch, White et al., Center et al., as well as for Huitema and McKean methods, respectively. A brief description of selected statistical programs available to conduct regression-based methods was given.

Abstract
Emotion dysregulation frequently co-occurs with chronic pain, which in turn leads to heightened emotional and physical suffering. This cycle of association has prompted a recommendation for psychological treatment of chronic pain to target mechanisms for emotion regulation. The current trial addressed this need by investigating a new internet-delivered treatment incorporating emotional skills training from dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT). Using a single-case experimental design that is suited to heterogeneous populations and can demonstrate efficacy with a small sample, three participants with chronic pain were recruited. Participants received four weeks of online DBT skills training (iDBT-Pain intervention) which incorporated one-on-one sessions over Zoom and a web app. Results revealed compelling evidence for the intervention on the primary outcome of emotion dysregulation and were promising for the secondary outcome of pain intensity. Improvement was also identified on pre-and post-measures of depression, coping behaviours, sleep problems, wellbeing, and harm avoidance, indicating that the intervention may positively influence other factors related to chronic pain. Overall, the trial provides preliminary efficacy for the intervention to improve chronic pain. However, we recommend further investigation of the iDBT-Pain intervention, either in single case trials, which when conducted with scientific rigour may be aggregated to derive nomothetic conclusions, or in a group-comparison trial to compare with usual modes of treatment. Perspective: This trial advances understanding of emotion-focused treatment for chronic pain and provides evidence for a viable new technological treatment. Importantly, as an internet-delivered approach, the iDBT-Pain intervention is accessible to those with restricted mobility and remote communities where there are often limited psychological services for people with chronic pain. Trial registration: The trial was registered on the Australian and New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ACTRN12620000604909).

Abstract
The number of students learning German as a second language (L2) is steadily increasing. Unfortunately, studies reveal that less-proficient school performance affects a larger proportion of these students and additional behavioral problems can create even greater learning barriers. In order to master a language, the focus is not only on vocabulary, but also on reading, and studies show that multi-component intervention in reading and L2 acquisition is particularly promising. Therefore, this multiple baseline study focuses on a multi-component storytelling intervention on vocabulary, reading, and letter sound fluency of low-achieving first graders with German as L2 with and without behavioral problems (N = 7). The intervention was implemented 3 times a week over a 6-week period. Results show significant large to very large effects on vocabulary and moderate to large effects on letter sound fluency and reading, providing indication for the positive impact of storytelling on multiple aspects simultaneously for the focused sample.

Abstract
For more than four decades, researchers have used meta-analyses to synthesize data from multiple experimental studies often to draw conclusions that are not supported by individual studies. More recently, single-case experimental design (SCED) researchers have adopted meta-analysis techniques to answer research questions with data gleaned from SCED experiments. Meta-analyses enable researchers to answer questions regarding intervention efficacy, generality, and condition boundaries. Here we discuss meta-analysis techniques, the rationale for their adaptation with SCED studies, and current indices used to quantify the effect of SCED data in applied behavior analysis.

Abstract
Reading difficulties that are not addressed at the primary level continue to exist at the secondary level with serious consequences. Thus, it is important to provide struggling students with specific reading support. In particular, many students with learning disabilities (LD) and emotional behavioral disorders (EBD) demonstrate reading obstacles and are at risk for motivation loss. A multiple baseline design was used to evaluate the effects of a motivational reading racetrack as peer-tutoring on the word reading skills of secondary students with LD with and without EBD. The intervention was conducted through 4-5 baseline and 16-18 reading units three times a week for 15 min over 8 weeks. The results showed positive effects indicating a highly effective treatment. In addition, follow-up results were also promising. Our findings indicate that this multicomponent intervention has a positive effect on the word fluidity of low-achieving students in secondary education with LD and/or EBD.

Abstract
Background: Sleep disturbances are a significant problem for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Existing research supports the use of parent-implemented, functional behavior assessment (FBA)-informed interventions for sleep problems in children with ASD. There is also emerging evidence for combined parent- and young person-implemented behavioral sleep interventions for older children and adolescents with ASD. However, the active treatment components of such interventions have not been identified in previous studies, as components have not been evaluated independently of one another.Methods: The current study sequentially implemented FBA-informed treatment components (in the order of least to most restrictive and time intensive) within a single-case AB design, to evaluate at which point treatment resulted in a statistically and clinically substantive reduction in target sleep variables. Combined parent- and young person-implemented intervention components consisted of: (a) white noise; (b) white noise and relaxation instruction; and (c) white noise, relaxation instruction, and stimulus control.Participant: The participant was a 9-year-old girl with autism and selective mutism.Results: The combined use of white noise, relaxation instruction, and stimulus control resolved the participant's sleep problems. Other more restrictive and/or time intensive interventions were unnecessary. Treatment effects were maintained at 10-week follow-up.Conclusions: The current study illustrates the feasibility of administering FBA-informed treatment components sequentially, to ensure application of minimally sufficient interventions.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Difficulties in emotional regulation are key to the development and maintenance of chronic pain. Recent evidence shows internet-delivered dialectic behaviour therapy (iDBT) skills training can reduce emotional dysregulation and pain intensity. However, further studies are needed to provide more definitive evidence regarding the efficacy of iDBT skills training in the chronic pain population. METHODS AND ANALYSIS A single-case experimental design (SCED) with multiple baselines will be used to examine the efficacy of a 4-week iDBT-Pain skills training intervention (iDBT-Pain intervention) to reduce emotional dysregulation and pain intensity in individuals with chronic pain. The iDBT-Pain intervention encompasses two components: (1) iDBT-Pain skills training sessions (iDBT-Pain sessions) and (2) the iDBT-Pain skills training web application (iDBT-Pain app). Three individuals with chronic pain will be recruited and randomly allocated to different baseline phases (5, 9 or 12 days). Following the baseline phase, participants will receive six 60-90 min iDBT-Pain sessions approximately 4 or 5 days apart, delivered by a psychologist via Zoom. To reinforce learnings from the iDBT-Pain sessions, participants will have unlimited use of the iDBT-Pain app. A 7-day follow-up phase (maintenance) will follow the intervention, whereby the iDBT-Pain sessions cease but the iDBT-Pain app is accessible. Emotional regulation, as the primary outcome measure, will be assessed using the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale. Pain intensity, as the secondary outcome measure, will be assessed using a visual analogue scale. Generalisation measures will assess psychological state factors (depression, anxiety and coping behaviour), alongside sleep quality, well-being and harm avoidance. SCEDs are increasingly considered effective designs for internet-delivered psychological interventions because SCED enables the investigation of interindividual variability in a heterogeneous population such as chronic pain. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION This trial was approved by the University of New South Wales (HC200199). Results will be published in peer-reviewed journals. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER ACTRN12620000604909.

Abstract
Purpose The present pilot study aimed to provide estimates of the feasibility and efficacy of a remote microphone (RM) system as an augmentative intervention to improve the functional listening performance of preschool children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and language disorder. Method Eight children with ASD and language disorder participated. Efficacy of the RM system was determined by evaluating participants' functional listening performance, as measured by an observational measure in RM-off and RM-on conditions. Responses were evaluated at the individual level using an alternating conditions design. Results Adequate feasibility was demonstrated as all participants were able to complete tasks in the RM-on condition. A subset of participants showed significant improvements in their functional listening performance in the RM-on condition, as demonstrated by visual inspection and effect sizes (nonoverlapping data points and percentage of data points exceeding the mean), indicating that there may be important sources of individual differences in responses to RM use in children with ASD. Conclusion The results of this pilot study provide support for future research on RM systems to target functional listening performance in children with ASD and language disorder.

Abstract
PURPOSE The objective of this work was to verify the efficacy of a treatment based on myofunctional therapy techniques which aimed to improve the tongue strength, precision, and speed of a ten-year-old girl with nemaline myopathy (NM) and the repercussions of this therapy on her speech intelligibility. NM is a rare congenital muscle disorder that causes extreme muscle weakness, especially in the face and neck, as well as severe dysarthria and dysphagia, although this does not affect the nervous system or cognitive development. METHOD This was a single-subject experimental study which used an interrupted pre- and post-treatment time-series design, and which applied autoregressive integrated moving-average predictive models and Holt exponential smoothing. During the treatment phases, the participant's tongue strength and the rate of speech diadochokinesia and voluntary lingual movements were estimated and the repercussions of the intervention in terms of speech intelligibility were ascertained via an experiment with 'naïve' judges. RESULTS The treatment produced a sustained and significant increase in the maximum strength of the patient's tongue, which increased from an initial 4 kPa to 11 kPa at the end of the treatment phase. However, this was far from the average 58 kPa for age- and sex-matched normative data. There were no significant changes either in the rates of voluntary lingual mobility or speech diadochokinesia. Speech intelligibility, as assessed by naïve judges, improved from 40 % in the pre-treatment phase to 67 % in the post-treatment phase. CONCLUSIONS NM and other rare primary muscle disorders allow us to estimate the effects of severe muscle weakness in people with dysarthria without cognitive impairment or alterations in central nervous system, peripheral nervous system or in gap junction. In this case, the treatment did not increase the patient's lingual and articulatory movement speed but did increase her tongue strength from 5 % to 10 % of the levels otherwise expected for her age and significantly improved the intelligibility of her speech and communication.

Abstract
Single-case experimental designs (SCEDs) have become a popular research methodology in educational science, psychology, and beyond. The growing popularity has been accompanied by the development of specific guidelines for the conduct and analysis of SCEDs. In this paper, we examine recent practices in the conduct and analysis of SCEDs by systematically reviewing applied SCEDs published over a period of three years (2016-2018). Specifically, we were interested in which designs are most frequently used and how common randomization in the study design is, which data aspects applied single-case researchers analyze, and which analytical methods are used. The systematic review of 423 studies suggests that the multiple baseline design continues to be the most widely used design and that the difference in central tendency level is by far most popular in SCED effect evaluation. Visual analysis paired with descriptive statistics is the most frequently used method of data analysis. However, inferential statistical methods and the inclusion of randomization in the study design are not uncommon. We discuss these results in light of the findings of earlier systematic reviews and suggest future directions for the development of SCED methodology.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adapted by the United Nations envisions inclusive and equitable quality education. While there is a growing body of research on interventions designed to help children on the autism spectrum adapt to the school environment, accommodations to children needs have been given less attention. OBJECTIVE To synthesize the literature on accommodations in the learning environment for children on the autism spectrum (ages 5-19 years) in mainstream school, with a specific focus on the effects on functioning, educational outcomes and well-being. METHODS A systematic search was conducted. The study selection and data extraction were performed by two independent reviewers. Eligible studies were assessed according to the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) standards. RESULTS The search yielded 6102 citations. Only 37 eligible studies were identified, of which 14 met the WWC standards. This inconclusive and heterogeneous body of research tentatively suggest that accommodations in the pedagogical and psychosocial leaning environment can improve performance and function in school. CONCLUSION AND SIGNIFICANCE Accommodations in the learning environment is a promising but understudied approach. Creative research and innovation will be needed to support policy makers and school personnel in their quest to ensure inclusive and equitable education.

Abstract
AbstractBackground:Outcome studies of the treatment of compulsive buying disorder (CBD) have rarely compared the effectiveness of differing active treatments.Aims:This study sought to compare the effectiveness of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and person-centred experiential therapy (PCE) in a cross-over design.Method:This was an ABC single case experimental design with extended follow-up with a female patient meeting diagnostic criteria for CBD. Ideographic CBD outcomes were intensively measured over a continuous 350-day time series. Following a 1-month baseline assessment phase (A; 28 days; three sessions), CBT was delivered via 13 out-patient sessions (B: 160 days) and then PCE was delivered via six out-patient sessions (C: 63 days). There was a 99-day follow-up period.Results:Frequency and duration of compulsive buying episodes decreased during active treatment. CBT and PCE were both highly effective compared with baseline for reducing shopping obsessions, excitement about shopping, compulsion to shop and improving self-esteem. When the PCE and CBT treatment phases were compared against each other, few differences were apparent in terms of outcome. There was no evidence of any relapse over the follow-up period. A reliable and clinically significant change on the primary nomothetic measure (i.e. Compulsive Buying Scale) was retained over time.Conclusions:The study suggests that both CBT and PCE can be effective for CBD. Methodological limitations and suggestions for future CBD outcome research are discussed.

Abstract
Adolescents with autism often experience pronounced difficulties with social communication, and novel interventions designed to improve core abilities are greatly needed. This study examines if providing immediate video feedback, an extension of video self-modeling, can aid adolescents with autism to self-identify strengths and irregularities from their social interactions. Using multiple baseline design across four participants, individuals engaged in naturalistic conversations wearing video recording glasses. During the intervention, videos were reviewed immediately and participants recognized when they were not following typical social-communicative convention. Based on observational data coded from videos, all four participants modified their behavior during subsequent conversations. Although adolescents with autism may hypothetically know to behave, viewing themselves on video may provide practical cues to support social insight and behavioral change.

Abstract
Background It is important to intervene early and treat children and individuals with behavioral disorders. We conducted a functional assessment-based consultation for teachers of several students with severe behavioral disorders and examined the effects of the consultation. Methods Eight students with severe behavioral disorders were selected from two special schools for intellectual disabilities in western Japan. An external consultant team conducted a functional assessment-based consultation in cooperation with a team of teachers. Consultations were held once a month, and comprised three to six sessions per student. Results As a result of the functional assessment, only 8 out of 10 behaviors with some communication function, and 2 with only sensory enhancements were estimated. The Effects of consultations based on functional assessment were presented. It was found that 6 out of 10 target behaviors had obtained high effects. The total score for each behavioral scale showed a statistically significant improvement. Conclusion Although consultations lasted for only six months and occurred from three to six times for each student, scale scores for problem behavior before and after intervention were improved, overall. Each case report suggested that many factors influence the difference in the effects of consultation among individual students. This study is significant in that it provides a model for the consultation system that operates on a short-term basis, and presents a means for small-scale group consultations for students with intellectual disabilities and autism in cooperation with external specialized institutions in special schools in Japan.

Thus, interventions in special needs schools that help adolescents cope with anxiety and, in turn, diminish disruptive classroom behaviors are needed. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a virtual reality biofeedback game, DEEP, on daily levels of state-anxiety and disruptive classroom behavior in a clinical sample. In addition, the study also aimed to examine the duration of the calm or relaxed state after playing DEEP. METHODS A total of 8 adolescents attending a special secondary school for students with behavioral and psychiatric problems participated in a single-case experimental ABAB study. Over a 4-week period, participants completed 6 DEEP sessions. In addition, momentary assessments (ie, 3 times a day) of self-reported state-anxiety and teacher-reported classroom behavior were collected throughout all A and B phases. RESULTS From analyzing the individual profiles, it was found that 6 participants showed reductions in anxiety, and 5 participants showed reductions in disruptive classroom behaviors after the introduction of DEEP. On a group level, results showed a small but significant reduction of anxiety (d=-0.29) and a small, nonsignificant reduction of disruptive classroom behavior (d=-0.16) on days when participants played DEEP. Moreover, it was found that the calm or relaxed state of participants after playing DEEP lasted for about 2 hours on average. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates the potential of the game, DEEP, as an intervention for anxiety and disruptive classroom behavior in a special school setting. Future research is needed to fully optimize and personalize DEEP as an intervention for the heterogeneous special school population.

Abstract
Previous research has introduced several effect size measures (ESMs) to quantify data aspects of single-case experimental designs (SCEDs): level, trend, variability, overlap, and immediacy. In the current article, we extend the existing literature by introducing two methods for quantifying consistency in single-case A-B-A-B phase designs. The first method assesses the consistency of data patterns across phases implementing the same condition, called CONsistency of DAta Patterns (CONDAP). The second measure assesses the consistency of the five other data aspects when changing from baseline to experimental phase, called CONsistency of the EFFects (CONEFF). We illustrate the calculation of both measures for four A-B-A-B phase designs from published literature and demonstrate how CONDAP and CONEFF can supplement visual analysis of SCED data. Finally, we discuss directions for future research.

Abstract
The color wheel is an evidence-based classroom management system that has been used to decrease inappropriate behaviors and increase on-task behaviors in general education elementary classrooms but not in classrooms for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A multiple-baseline design was used to evaluate the effects of the color wheel system (CWS) on disruptive behaviors (being out of seat for one classroom, inappropriate vocalizations for two classrooms) in three self-contained elementary classrooms for students with ASD. Partial-interval time sampling was used to record class-wide disruptive behaviors. Visual analysis of a time-series graph suggests that the CWS decreased disruptive behaviors across all three classrooms. Discussion focuses on limitations of the study and directions for researchers interested in modifying, applying, and evaluating the effects of the CWS in settings for children with ASD.
