Abstract
Objective: The aim of the current study was to determine the capability of neurocognitive variables and executive functions to differentiate women with and without fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). Methods: A secondary diagnostic accuracy analysis was conducted. A battery of neurocognitive and executive function tests (the D2 Attention test, the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure for visual perception, "Digits D/R/I" tests of the WAIS-IV battery for working memory, the 5-Digit test for mental inhibition, the Symbol Search for processing speed, and the Zoo Test for planning/decision-making) were collected in 129 women with FMS and 111 without FMS. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, optimal cut-off point, sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative likelihood ratios (LR) for each variable were calculated. Results: Between-group differences were identified in ROCF_Copy (p = 0.043), ROCF_Recall (p = 0.004), d2_TR (p = 0.019), d2_TA (p = 0.007), d2_TOT (p = 0.005), d2_CON (p = 0.004), d2_C (p = 0.042), Symbol Search (p = 0.008), Decoding _FDT (p = 0.001), Retrieving_FDT (p = 0.001), and Inhibiting_FDT (p = 0.024). The result showed that FDT-based outcomes (Retrieving_FDT: ROC 0.739, sensitivity 85.3%, specificity 48.6%; Decoding_FDT: ROC 0.724, sensitivity 50.4%, specificity 16.2%; Inhibiting_FDT: ROC 0.708, sensitivity 56.6%, specificity 22.5%) were the variables able to differentiate between women with and without FMS. Conclusions: Although women with FMS exhibited deficits in attention, long-term visual memory, processing speed, and mental inhibition when compared with women without FMS, only mental inhibition scores showed moderate diagnostic accuracy to discriminate between women with and without FMS. Future studies investigating these results in clinical settings are needed to identify the clinical relevance of these findings.

Abstract
Susac syndrome (SuS) presents with encephalopathy, visual disturbances, and hearing loss from immune-mediated microvascular occlusion. While acute SuS is well-described, long-term cognitive outcomes with current treatments are underknown. We assessed ten SuS patients treated in accordance with evidence-based guidelines using immunotherapies targeting humoral and cell-mediated pathways. Patients were followed for a median 3.6 years. Initially, cognition inversely correlated with corpus callosum lesions on MRI. All reported cognitive improvement; 5/10 patients had residual deficits in visual attention and executive function. Early, aggressive treatment was associated with good outcomes; extensive early corpus callosum lesions may identify patients at-risk of persistent cognitive deficits.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Epilepsy patients often report memory deficits despite normal objective testing, suggesting that available measures are insensitive or that non-mnemonic factors are involved. The Visual Paired Comparison Task (VPCT) assesses novelty preference, the tendency to fixate on novel images rather than previously viewed items, requiring recognition memory for the "old" images. As novelty preference is a sensitive measure of hippocampal-dependent memory function, we predicted impaired VPCT performance in epilepsy patients compared to healthy controls. METHODS We assessed 26 healthy adult controls and 31 epilepsy patients (16 focal-onset, 13 generalized-onset, 2 unknown-onset) with the VPCT using delays of 2 or 30 s between encoding and recognition. Fifteen healthy controls and 17 epilepsy patients (10 focal-onset, 5 generalized-onset, 2 unknown-onset) completed the task at 2-, 5-, and 30-minute delays. Subjects also performed standard memory measures, including the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) Paragraph Test, California Verbal Learning Test-Second Edition (CVLT-II), and Brief Visual Memory Test-Revised (BVMT-R). RESULTS The epilepsy group was high functioning, with greater estimated IQ (p = 0.041), greater years of education (p = 0.034), and higher BVMT-R scores (p = 0.024) compared to controls. Both the control group and epilepsy cohort, as well as focal- and generalized-onset subgroups, had intact novelty preference at the 2- and 30-second delays (p-values ≤ 0.001) and declined at 30 min (p-values > 0.05). Only the epilepsy patients had early declines at 2- and 5-minute delays (controls with intact novelty preference at p = 0.003 and p ≤ 0.001, respectively; epilepsy groups' p-values > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Memory for the "old" items decayed more rapidly in overall, focal-onset, and generalized-onset epilepsy groups. The VPCT detected deficits while standard memory measures were largely intact, suggesting that the VPCT may be a more sensitive measure of temporal lobe memory function than standard neuropsychological batteries.

Abstract
Maintaining healthy cognitive functioning and delaying cognitive decline in cognitively intact and cognitive impaired adults are major research initiatives for addressing dementia disease burden. Music interventions are promising, non-pharmaceutical treatment options for preserving cognitive function and psychological health in older adults with varying levels of cognitive function. While passive, music interventions have attracted considerable attention in the abnormal cognitive aging literature, active, music interventions such as music creativity are less well-studied. Among 58 older adults with different levels of cognitive function (cognitively healthy to mild cognitive impairment), we examined the feasibility and acceptability of Project CHROMA, a Stage 1 clinical trial developed to assess the effects of a novel, music creativity curriculum on various health outcomes. Music intervention participation (93%), overall study retention (78%), and intervention satisfaction (100%) rates were comparable to other similarly designed clinical trials. Exploratory analyses using mixed-level modeling tested the efficacy of the intervention on cognitive and psychological outcomes. Compared to those in the control condition, participants in the music condition showed some improvements in cognitive functioning and socioemotional well-being. Findings suggest that a 6-week music creativity clinical trial with several multi-modal health assessments can be feasibly implemented within a sample of varying cognitive ability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Unipolar depression (UD) and bipolar depression (BD) showed convergent and divergent cognitive impairments. Neural oscillations are linked to the foundational cognitive processes. We aimed to investigate the underpinning spectral neuronal power patterns by magnetoencephalography (MEG), which combinates high spatial and temporal resolution. We hypothesized that patients with UD and BD exhibit common and distinct patterns, which may contribute to their cognitive impairments. METHODS Group cognitive tests were performed. Eyes closed resting-state MEG data were collected from 61 UD, 55 BD, and 52 healthy controls (HC). Nonparametric cluster-based permutation tests were performed to deal with the multiple comparison problem on channel-frequency MEG data. Correlation analysis of cognitive dysfunction scores and MEG oscillation were conducted by Spearman or partial correlation analysis. RESULTS Wisconsin Card Sorting Test showed similar cognitive impairment in patients with UD and BD. Moreover, patients with BD exhibited extensive cognitive deficits in verbal executive functions and visuospatial processing. Compare to HC, both patients with UD and BD showed increased frontal-central beta power while high gamma power was decreased in UD groups during the resting-state. The significant correlations between cognitive function and average beta power were observed. CONCLUSIONS Patients with BD had more cognitive impairments on different dimensions than those with UD, involving disrupted beta power modulations. Our investigation provides a better understanding of the neuroelectrophysiological process underlying cognitive impairments in patients with UD and BD.

Abstract
Background and aims Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies using static and dynamic functional connectivity (FC) approaches have revealed brain dysfunction resulting from sleep deprivation (SD). The effects of SD on the stability of brain functional architecture remain unclear. This study investigated the functional stability (FS) changes induced by SD and its association with neurocognitive alterations. Materials and methods In this study, we recruited 24 healthy women. All participants underwent two sessions of resting-state fMRI scanning and neurocognitive assessment. The assessments included the Digit Symbol Test, Digit Span Test, Trail-Making Test (TMT), and Complex Figure Test (CFT). Participants completed one session under rested wakefulness (RW) and one session after SD for 24 h. To estimate dynamic FC, we used the sliding window approach; and then, to characterize the FS of each voxel, we measured dynamic FC concordance over time. We used a paired t-test to identify differences in FS between RW and SD. To examine the relationship between these changes in FS and alterations in neurocognitive performance, we conducted Spearman’s correlation analyses. Results SD affected the performance of the Digit Symbol Test, Digit Span Test, and CFT. Compared with RW, subjects with SD exhibited decreased FS in the bilateral anterior and posterior cingulate gyrus and medial frontal gyrus, right superior frontal gyrus, and cerebellum posterior lobe, while they exhibited increased FS in the bilateral precentral/postcentral gyrus and supplementary motor area, right parahippocampal gyrus and fusiform gyrus, left inferior occipital gyrus, and bilateral cerebellum anterior lobe. After SD, FS changes in the right parahippocampal gyrus and fusiform gyrus were correlated with altered performance in the Digit Symbol Test and CFT. Conclusion Our findings showed that the stability of the brain’s functional architecture could be altered by SD. This stability alteration may correspond to multiple neurocognitive domain changes.

Purpose To explore changes in the brain structural network in patients with cerebellar infarction on different sides and their correlations with changes in cognitive function. Methods Nineteen patients with acute left posterior cerebellar infarction and 18 patients with acute right posterior cerebellar infarction seen from July 2016 to September 2019 in the Department of Neurology, Affiliated Brain Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, were selected. A total of 27 healthy controls matched for sex, age, and years of education were recruited. The subjects underwent head diffusion magnetic resonance imaging examination and neuropsychological cognitive scale evaluation, and we analyzed changes in brain structural network properties in patients with cerebellar infarction and their correlation with changes in patients' cognitive function. Results The Mini-Mental Status Examination (MMSE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA) and the Rey auditory verbal learning test (RAVLT) scores in the left and right cerebellar infarction groups were significantly lower than those in the healthy control group (p < 0.05). In addition, the digit span test (DST) scores were lower in the left cerebellar infarction group (p < 0.05); the trail-making test (TMT) times in the right cerebellar infarction group were significantly higher than those in the left cerebellar infarction group (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, the left and right cerebellar infarction groups had abnormal brain topological properties, including clustering coefficient, shortest path length, global efficiency, local efficiency and nodal efficiency. After unilateral cerebellar infarction, bilateral cerebral nodal efficiency was abnormal. Correlation analysis showed that there was a close correlation between decreased processing speed in patients with left cerebellar infarction and decreased efficiency of right cerebral nodes (p < 0.05), and there was a close relationship between executive dysfunction and decreased efficiency of left cerebral nodes in patients with right cerebellar infarction (p < 0.05). Conclusion Patients with cerebellar infarction have cognitive impairment. Unilateral cerebellar infarction can reduce the network efficiency of key regions in the bilateral cerebral hemispheres, and these abnormal changes are closely related to patient cognitive impairment. The results of this study provide evidence for understanding the underlying neural mechanisms of cerebellar cognitive impairment and suggest that brain topological network properties may be markers of cerebellar cognitive impairment.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Evidence indicates that the cerebellum is involved in cognitive processing. However, the specific mechanisms through which the cerebellum repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) contributes to the cognitive state are unclear. METHODS In the current randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled trial, 27 patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) were randomly allotted to one of the two groups: rTMS-real or rTMS-sham. We investigated the efficacy of a four-week treatment of bilateral cerebellum rTMS to promote cognitive recovery and alter specific cerebello-cerebral functional connectivity. RESULTS The cerebellum rTMS significantly improves multi-domain cognitive functions, directly associated with the observed intrinsic functional connectivity between the cerebellum nodes and the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), medial frontal cortex, and the cingulate cortex in the real rTMS group. In contrast, the sham stimulation showed no significant impact on the clinical improvements and the cerebello-cerebral connectivity. CONCLUSION Our results depict that 5 Hz rTMS of the bilateral cerebellum is a promising, non-invasive treatment of cognitive dysfunction in AD patients. This cognitive improvement is accompanied by brain connectivity modulation and is consistent with the pathophysiological brain disconnection model in AD patients.

Abstract
DLB and AD had the different functional reorganization patterns. Rich club nodes increased in frontal-parietal network in patients with DLB. The rich club nodes in temporal lobe decreased and those in cerebellum increased for AD. Compared with HC, rich club connectivity was enhanced in the DLB and AD groups.
The purpose of this study was to reveal the patterns of reorganization of rich club organization in brain functional networks in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The study found that the rich club node shifts from sensory/somatomotor network to fronto-parietal network in DLB. For AD, the rich club nodes switch between the temporal lobe with obvious structural atrophy and the frontal lobe, parietal lobe and cerebellum with relatively preserved structure and function. In addition, compared with healthy controls, rich club connectivity was enhanced in the DLB and AD groups. The connection strength of DLB patients was related to cognitive assessment. In conclusion, we revealed the different functional reorganization patterns of DLB and AD. The conversion and redistribution of rich club members may play a causal role in disease-specific outcomes. It may be used as a potential biomarker to provide more accurate prevention and treatment strategies.

Abstract
Background: Recent studies have discovered that functional connections are impaired among patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), even at the preclinical stage. The cerebellum has been implicated as playing a role in cognitive processes. However, functional connectivity (FC) among cognitive sub-regions of the cerebellum in patients with AD and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) remains to be further elucidated. Objective: Our study aims to investigate the FC changes of the cerebellum among patients with AD and MCI, compared to healthy controls (HC). Additionally, we explored the role of cerebellum FC changes in the cognitive performance of all subjects. Materials: Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data from three different groups (28 AD patients, 26 MCI patients, and 30 HC) was collected. We defined cerebellar crus II and lobule IX as seed regions to assess the intragroup differences of cortico-cerebellar connectivity. Bias correlational analysis was performed to investigate the relationship between changes in FC and neuropsychological performance. Results: Compared to HC, AD patients had decreased FC within the caudate, limbic lobe, medial frontal gyrus (MFG), middle temporal gyrus, superior frontal gyrus, parietal lobe/precuneus, inferior temporal gyrus, and posterior cingulate gyrus. Interestingly, MCI patients demonstrated increased FC within inferior parietal lobe, and MFG, while they had decreased FC in the thalamus, inferior frontal gyrus, and superior frontal gyrus. Further analysis indicated that FC changes between the left crus II and the right thalamus, as well as between left lobule IX and the right parietal lobe, were both associated with cognitive decline in AD. Disrupted FC between left crus II and right thalamus, as well as between left lobule IX and right parietal lobe, was associated with attention deficit among subjects with MCI. Conclusion: These findings indicate that cortico-cerebellar FC in MCI and AD patients was significantly disrupted with different distributions, particularly in the default mode networks (DMN) and fronto-parietal networks (FPN) region. Increased activity within the fronto-parietal areas of MCI patients indicated a possible compensatory role for the cerebellum in cognitive impairment. Therefore, alterations in the cortico-cerebellar FC represent a novel approach for early diagnosis and a potential therapeutic target for early intervention.

Abstract
Reappraisal is a widely investigated emotion regulation strategy, often impaired in those with acquired brain injury (ABI). Little is known, however, about the tools to measure this capacity in patients, who may find traditional reappraisal tasks difficult. Fifty-five participants with ABI, and thirty-five healthy controls (HCs), completed reappraisal tasks with personal and impersonal emotion elicitation components, questionnaires measuring reappraisal (the ERQ-CA), and neuropsychological assessment. The main findings demonstrated that both groups produced more reappraisals, and rated their reappraisal ideas as more effective for personal stimuli. The ABI group were significantly faster to generate reappraisals for personal, compared to impersonal, stimuli. Yet, participants with ABI performed worse than HCs on the majority of reappraisal components, across both reappraisal tasks. Results of regression analyses revealed significant relationships between certain measures of cognitive control and certain reappraisal components, which varied for the personal and impersonal reappraisal task. Notably, while inhibition predicted aspects of reappraisal in both the ABI and HC group, working memory was only related to reappraisal in participants with ABI. The study suggests that personal context plays a key role in reappraisal, and proposes a model to better understand the role of cognitive control across the reappraisal process.

Abstract
It is well-known that ageing is associated with a decrease in working memory abilities. It is not so clear at what age the decline begins and if there are differences in the decline of verbal and visuo-spatial working memory. This study investigates the effect of ageing on verbal and visuo-spatial working memory by comparing the performance of 880 subjects aged between 15- and 80-year old who were subdivided into five groups. The results show that age is negatively correlated with performance on both verbal and visuo-spatial working memory tasks. Specifically, we observed a gradual deterioration in performance with increasing age starting at 36-year old. Comparing the performance of the five groups, it is possible to observe a clear decline in both verbal and visuo-spatial working memory domains in subjects over 66-year old. However, in the next youngest age group, it is possible to notice differences in performance depending on the type of material being processed and the cognitive load required. This variability is discussed by analyzing the factors that may have influenced test performance.

Abstract
Cerebellar lesions can lead to a series of cognitive and emotional disorders by influencing cerebral activity via cerebro-cerebellar loops. To explore changes in cognitive function and structural brain networks in patients with posterior cerebellar infarction, we conducted the current study using diffusion-weighted MRI (32 cerebellar infarction patients, 29 controls). Moreover, a series of neuropsychological tests were used to assess the subject's cognitive performance. We found cognitive impairment following cerebellar infarction involving multiple cognitive domains, including memory, executive functions, visuospatial abilities, processing speed and language functions, and brain topological abnormalities, including changes in clustering coefficients, shortest path lengths, global efficiency, local efficiencies, betweenness centrality and nodal efficiencies. Our results indicated that measures of local efficiency, mainly in the precuneus, cingulate gyrus and frontal-temporal cortex, were significantly reduced with posterior cerebellar infarction. At the same time, The correlation analysis suggested thatthe abnormal alterations in the right PCG, bilateral DCG, right PCUN may play a core role in the cognitive impairment following cerebellar infarctions. The differences in topological features of the structural brain networks within the cerebro-cerebellar circuits may provide a new approach to explore the pathophysiological mechanisms of cognitive impairment following cerebellar infarction.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine whether galantamine, a cognitive-enhancing medication that is both acetylcholinesterase inhibitor and agonist at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, is effective at improving cocaine use outcomes and cognitive functioning, alone and in combination with computerized cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). METHOD A 12-week, randomized 2 × 2, factorial trial was conducted to evaluate galantamine versus placebo (double-blind) and computerized CBT plus standard methadone treatment versus standard methadone treatment alone in a community-based methadone maintenance program (September 2009-April 2015). One hundred twenty individuals diagnosed with DSM-IV cocaine use disorder were randomly assigned to the following conditions: (1) galantamine (8 mg/d) plus standard methadone maintenance treatment (treatment as usual [TAU]), (2) placebo plus TAU, (3) galantamine plus computerized CBT plus TAU, or (4) placebo plus computerized CBT plus TAU; medication administration was supervised at the time of daily methadone dosing. The primary cocaine use outcome was change in percent days of abstinence over time. Number of cocaine-negative urine toxicology screens submitted and cognitive function were secondary outcomes. RESULTS Random effect regression analysis indicated significant reductions in frequency of cocaine use over time, with significant treatment-by-time effects for both galantamine over placebo (F = 5.3, P = .02, d = 0.34) and computerized CBT over standard methadone treatment (F = 4.2, P = .04, d = 0.30) but no evidence of significant benefit of the combination over either treatment alone. Pretreatment to posttreatment comparisons of multiple indices of cognitive functioning, including sustained attention, indicated no benefit of galantamine over placebo. CONCLUSIONS Findings suggest benefits of galantamine and computerized CBT for reducing cocaine use in this sample. Although galantamine did not improve measures of cognitive function in this sample, multiple measures of cognitive function were associated with cocaine use outcomes, underlining the significance of cognitive function in cocaine treatment outcomes. Abstract
BACKGROUND Pediatric ADHD is associated with impairments in working memory, but these deficits often go undetected when using clinic-based tests such as digit span backward. AIMS The current study pilot-tested minor administration/scoring modifications to improve digit span backward's construct and predictive validities in a well-characterized sample of children with ADHD. METHODS AND PROCEDURES WISC-IV digit span was modified to administer all trials (i.e., ignore discontinue rule) and count digits rather than trials correct. Traditional and modified scores were compared to a battery of criterion working memory (construct validity) and academic achievement tests (predictive validity) for 34 children with ADHD ages 8-13 (M=10.41; 11 girls). OUTCOMES AND RESULTS Traditional digit span backward scores failed to predict working memory or KTEA-2 achievement (allns). Alternate administration/scoring of digit span backward significantly improved its associations with working memory reordering (r=.58), working memory dual-processing (r=.53), working memory updating (r=.28), and KTEA-2 achievement (r=.49). CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Consistent with prior work, these findings urge caution when interpreting digit span performance. Minor test modifications may address test validity concerns, and should be considered in future test revisions. Digit span backward becomes a valid measure of working memory at exactly the point that testing is traditionally discontinued.

Abstract
Past studies have independently shown associations of working memory and degree of handedness with episodic memory retrieval. The current study takes a step ahead by examining whether handedness and working memory independently predict episodic memory. In agreement with past studies, there was an inconsistent-handed advantage for episodic memory; however, this advantage was absent for working memory tasks. Furthermore, regression analyses showed handedness, and complex working memory predicted episodic memory performance at different times. Results are discussed in light of theories of episodic memory and hemispheric interaction.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Both working memory (WM; a brain system that provides temporary storage and manipulation of the information) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have been associated with educational deficits. Since WM deficits are prevalent in children with ADHD, the main aim of the present study was to examine whether educational deficits are driven by working memory deficits or driven by the effect of ADHD itself. METHOD Participants were referred youth with (N = 276) and without (N = 241) ADHD ascertained from pediatric and psychiatric sources. Assessment included measures of psychiatric, psychosocial, educational, and cognitive functioning. Education deficits were defined as grade retention or placement in special classes and were assessed using interviews and written rating scales. Working memory was assessed using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) Freedom from Distractibility (FFD) factor based on Digit Span, Arithmetic, and Coding. RESULTS Significantly more youth with ADHD had WM deficits than controls (31.9% vs. 13.7%, p < .05). In ADHD children, WM deficits were significantly (p < .01) associated with an increased risk for grade retention and placement in special classes as well as lower scores on reading and math achievement tests than for ADHD children without WM deficits. In contrast, no other differences were noted in other areas of functioning. Although WM deficits also had some adverse impact on educational and cognitive correlates in non-ADHD controls, these differences failed to attain statistical significance. CONCLUSION WM deficits significantly and selectively increase the risk for academic deficits and cognitive dysfunction in children with ADHD beyond those conferred by ADHD. Screening for WM deficits may help identify children with ADHD at high risk for academic and cognitive dysfunction.

Abstract
Three alternative mechanisms for age-related decline in memory search have been proposed, which result from either reduced processing speed (global slowing hypothesis), overpersistence on categories (cluster-switching hypothesis), or the inability to maintain focus on local cues related to a decline in working memory (cue-maintenance hypothesis). We investigated these 3 hypotheses by formally modeling the semantic recall patterns of 185 adults between 27 to 99 years of age in the animal fluency task (Thurstone, 1938). The results indicate that people switch between global frequency-based retrieval cues and local item-based retrieval cues to navigate their semantic memory. Contrary to the global slowing hypothesis that predicts no qualitative differences in dynamic search processes and the cluster-switching hypothesis that predicts reduced switching between retrieval cues, the results indicate that as people age, they tend to switch more often between local and global cues per item recalled, supporting the cue-maintenance hypothesis. Additional support for the cue-maintenance hypothesis is provided by a negative correlation between switching and digit span scores and between switching and total items recalled, which suggests that cognitive control may be involved in cue maintenance and the effective search of memory. Overall, the results are consistent with age-related decline in memory search being a consequence of reduced cognitive control, consistent with models suggesting that working memory is related to goal perseveration and the ability to inhibit distracting information.

Abstract
Spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy (SBMA), Kennedy's disease, is an adult-onset hereditary neurodegenerative disorder, associated predominantly with a lower motor neuron syndrome and eventually endocrine and sensory disturbances. In contrast to other motor neuron diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the impairment of cognition in SBMA is not well documented. We conducted a systematic cross-sectional neuropsychological study in order to investigate cognition in SBMA patients more thoroughly. We investigated 20 genetically proven SBMA patients compared to 20 age- and education-matched control subjects using a comprehensive neuropsychological test battery, measuring executive functioning, attention, memory and visuospatial abilities. The SBMA patients performed significantly worse than healthy controls in three sub-tests in the executive and attention domains. This low performance was in the working memory (digit span backward task), verbal fluency category (single letter fluency task) and memory storage capacity (digit span forward task). No disturbances were detected in other cognitive domains. The impairments were subclinical and not relevant to the patients' everyday functioning. In addition, no correlations were found between cognitive scores and the CAG repeat length. In conclusion, we found minor cognitive disturbances in patients with SBMA, which could indicate subtle frontal lobe dysfunction. These findings extend our neurobiological understanding of SBMA.
