Abstract
There is minimal research on the quality of community partnerships in studies of interventions for autistic children. However, building high quality community engagement in autism intervention research may improve implementation outcomes. This systematic review examined studies that report community partnership in autism intervention research. A total of 135 articles were identified and 11 of these articles were included in the final review. Community partnership data were extracted using indicators from the conceptual framework for assessing research-practice partnerships (RPP; Henrick et al., Henrick et al., Assessing research-practice partnerships: Five dimensions of effectiveness, William T. Grant Foundation, 2017) and implementation outcomes data were extracted using the taxonomy of distinct implementation outcomes (Proctor et al., Administration and Policy in Mental Health and Mental Health Services Research, 38:65-76, 2011). Quality of studies were appraised using JBIs critical appraisal tools (Munn et al., JBI Evidence Synthesis, 18:2127-2133, 2020). RPP indicators and implementation outcomes were variably reported across studies. RPP indicators and implementation outcomes more likely to be reported were related to building trust, cultivating partnership relationships, conducting rigorous research to inform action, acceptability, and feasibility. RPP indicators and implementation outcomes less likely to be reported were related to building capacity to engage in partnership work, sustainability, cost, and penetration. Together, these results may suggest the need for increased sustainability and capacity building efforts in partnerships and increased guidelines for reporting outcomes.

Abstract
LAY ABSTRACT Children with developmental disabilities including autism who live in low- and middle-income countries have very limited access to care and intervention. The World Health Organization initiated the caregiver skills training programme to support families with children with developmental disabilities. In Ethiopia, contextual factors such as poverty, low literacy and stigma may affect the success of the programme. In this study, we aimed to find out if the caregiver skills training programme is feasible to deliver in rural Ethiopia and acceptable to caregivers and programme facilitators. We trained non-specialist providers to facilitate the programme. Caregivers and non-specialist facilitators were asked about their experiences in interviews and group discussions. Caregivers found the programme relevant to their lives and reported benefits of participation. Facilitators highlighted the skills they had acquired but also emphasised the importance of support from supervisors during the programme. They described that some caregiver skills training programme topics were difficult to teach caregivers. In particular, the idea of play between caregiver and child was unfamiliar to many caregivers. Lack of available toys made it difficult to practise some of the caregiver skills training programme exercises. Participants indicated that the home visits and group training programme components of the caregiver skills training were acceptable and feasible, but there were some practical barriers, such as transportation issues and lack of time for homework practice. These findings may have importance to non-specialist delivery of the caregiver skills training programme in other low-income countries.

Abstract
Parent engagement in early behavioral intervention is essential to achieving meaningful intervention outcomes. However, parents may experience multiple barriers to engagement. The Parent-coaching Assessment, Individualization, and Response to Stressors (PAIRS) was developed to help practitioners assess families' barriers and facilitators, individualize their intervention, and respond to stressors using a contextual, functional approach. An expert panel of Board Certified Behavior Analysts ® (BCBAs) evaluated the content validity of the PAIRS. Average scale values (S-CVI/Ave) were 0.92 for relevance, 0.85 for effectiveness, and 0.91 for appropriateness. The PAIRS was revised, and a follow-up evaluation was conducted to rate the tool's utility. This led to the final version of the PAIRS. Clinical implications and future directions are discussed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This observational study characterizes youth and caregiver behaviors that may pose challenges to engagement within a system-driven implementation of multiple evidence-based practices (EBPs). We examined links between Engagement Challenges and therapist EBP implementation outcomes. METHOD Community therapists (N = 102) provided audio recordings of EBP sessions (N = 666) for youth (N = 267; 71.54%, Latinx; 51.69%, female; Mage = 9.85, Range: 1-18). Observers rated the extent to which youth and/or caregivers engaged in the following behaviors: Caregiver and/or Youth Expressed Concerns about interventions, and Youth Disruptive Behaviors. Multilevel modeling was used to identify predictors of observable Engagement Challenges, and examine associations between Engagement Challenges, and therapist-reported ability to deliver planned activities, and observer-rated extensiveness of EBP strategy delivery. RESULTS At least one Engagement Challenge was observed in 43.99% of sessions. Youth Engagement Challenges were not associated with outcomes. Caregiver Expressed Concerns were negatively associated with therapist-reported ability to carry out planned session activities (B = -.21, 95% CI[-.39-(-.02)], p < .05). However, Caregiver Expressed Concerns were positively associated with extensiveness of EBP Content strategy delivery (B = .08, 95% CI[.01-.15], p < .05). CONCLUSIONS Results suggest that Youth Engagement Challenges have little observed impact on EBP delivery. In contrast, although therapists perceive that Caregiver Expressed Concerns derail their planned activities, Caregiver Expressed Concerns are associated with more extensive delivery of content about therapeutic interventions. Community therapists' implementation of EBPs appear unaffected by common youth in-session behavioral challenges, but future research is needed to clarify whether caregivers' concerns about interventions prompt, or are prompted by, more intensive therapist EBP content instruction.

Abstract
Background and aims Guidelines regarding social cognitive interventions for autistic children suggest incorporating a holistic approach. This includes increasing the family's understanding of difficulties associated with autism, integrations of natural environments, and parents as active agents in the intervention while being supported for their well-being. The current availability of holistic parent-implemented interventions for autistic children is limited, with no qualitative understanding of how parents view the benefits for themselves or their children. Method The current study expands the literature regarding holistic approaches through a qualitative understanding of parent perceptions of a parent-implemented social communication intervention for autistic children (TalkAbility™), which incorporates a 6-month follow-up. This study sought to gain a deeper understanding from parents on their perceptions of a holistic approach, including the impact on themselves, their families, and their autistic child. Results Following Braun and Clarke's model of thematic analysis, data was coded into four themes: (a) communication difficulties, frustrations, and progress, (b) social relationships and concerns, (c) communication strategies, and (d) thoughts and emotions surrounding TalkAbility™. Conclusions Parents report that many components of a holistic approach are instrumental in encouraging social communication in their autistic child. Results highlight the importance of considering parent experiences regarding interventions for their child's social communication skills through a qualitative viewpoint. Implications Knowing the intervention aspects that parents view as most valuable allows targeted program modifications that reflect actual parent needs. Further understanding regarding the influence of holistic parent-implemented social communication interventions on child communication skills, parenting frustrations, and parent-child relationships is needed.

Abstract
LAY ABSTRACT Families from underrepresented ethnic or racial groups and those with limited financial resources could experience more difficulty in accessing support services for their autistic child due to certain types of barriers. We searched academic journals, websites, and other sources for studies which looked at what barriers might be present for such families and what might help families access support services for their autistic child. The search found 18 studies. Results from each study were examined and coded into themes. Parents reported that accessibility, diversity of support services, and stigma influenced their experiences with support services. We discuss what these findings might mean for future research and for service delivery.

Abstract
LAY ABSTRACT The effectiveness of parent-mediated interventions in the field of autism spectrum disorder is well documented but information on the experience of parents involved in parent-mediated interventions is limited.This study is the first synthesis of evidence concerning the experience of parents involved in parent-mediated interventions. It synthesizes the voice of 345 parents across the world into four general themes: barriers to implementation and logistical issues, feeling overwhelmed and stressed (a need for support), facilitators of implementation, and empowerment in the parent and improvement in the child.The findings of our study provide evidence that parent-mediated interventions should be adapted to the needs of each family. Specific care and support should be offered to parents in addition to parent-mediated interventions. Our study, however, highlights which outcomes are important to parents and should be considered in future studies.

Abstract
Prodromal symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have been detected within the first year of life. This review evaluated evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of parent-mediated interventions for infants under 24 months who are at risk for ASD. Electronic databases, including grey literature, were searched up till November 2019. Seven RCTs were identified. There was substantial heterogeneity in recruitment, outcome measures and effect size calculations. Interventions did not reduce the risk of later ASD diagnosis and post-intervention effects on infant outcomes were inconsistent, with five studies reporting significant improvements across both treatment and control groups. Moderate level of evidence of intervention effects on parental interaction skills and the small number of RCTs, and significant limitations restrict generalizability across studies.

Abstract
Knowledge of participant treatment preferences can inform decision-making regarding treatment dissemination and future participant adoption. To compare participant perceptions of two evidence-based approaches for weight gain prevention in young adults to identify the intervention with the greatest likelihood of adoption. As part of a randomized trial (Study of Novel Approaches to Weight Gain Prevention [SNAP]; n = 599) testing weight gain prevention interventions in young adults (18-35 years), individuals assigned to self-regulation interventions using either large changes or small changes reported on perceived personal effectiveness and difficulty of treatment over 3 years. Treatment satisfaction at 2-year follow-up was also reported. Pre-randomization, participants believed the large change intervention would be more personally effective than the small change intervention, although they also considered it more complex. Older age, lower body mass index (p = 0.056), and desire to maintain versus lose weight predicted greater perceived effectiveness of the small change relative to large change intervention. Over follow-up, the large change intervention was no longer perceived as more effective, but perceived effectiveness aligned with assigned treatment. The small change intervention was rated as less complex than the large change intervention at 4 months, but not at other follow-ups. At study conclusion, participants were largely satisfied with both treatments; however, in the small change intervention, individuals who were not successful at preventing weight gain were less satisfied than individuals who were successful. The large and small change interventions are both appropriate for dissemination with no clear advantages based on the participant perceptions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE to identify the information demands of families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. METHOD this is a qualitative study conducted through semi-structured and audio-recorded interviews with 55 family members, in the states of Paraná, Ceará, and Macapá, between September 2018 and September 2019. Thematic category analysis and Qualitative Data Analysis Software resources were used for data organization. RESULTS it was identified that families need information regarding the characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder (definition, cause, possibility of cure, prognosis and the probability of having another child with Autism Spectrum Disorder); child's routine and behavior; future rights and expectations. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS information demands are relevant to support professionals, health managers and other services in health care organization to support families of children with autism.

Abstract
Background Intervention during the first years of life for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may have the strongest impact on long-term brain development and functioning. Yet, barriers such as a shortage of trained professionals contribute to significant delays in service. The goal of this proof-of-concept study was to explore strategies that support timely and equitable deployment of ASD-specific interventions. Methods This 15-week, randomized proof-of-concept study explored the acceptability of a digital parent mediated intervention online reciprocal imitation training (RIT; a naturalistic developmental behavioral intervention) and compared it to a treatment as usual (TAU) control on parent and child outcomes. Eligible children were between 18 and 60 months, met the cutoff for ASD on the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2nd Edition and demonstrate significant social imitation deficits. Primary outcomes include the acceptability of RIT (Scale of Treatment Perceptions) and the feasibility of the Online RIT digital intervention (online RIT attributes). Secondary outcomes included parent fidelity (RIT parent fidelity form) and parental self-efficacy (Early Intervention Parenting Self-Efficacy Scale). Exploratory outcome measures included child social communication (Social Communication Checklist), child imitation skills (Unstructured Imitation Assessment), and family quality of life (Beach Center Family Quality of Life Scale). Results Twenty participants were randomized in a 1:1 fashion. The acceptability and feasibility of RIT and the Online RIT digital intervention were rated highly. Among the secondary outcomes, there were significant group differences in parent fidelity (p < .001) and self-efficacy (p = .029). On exploratory outcomes, there were group differences in child social communication (p = .048). There were no significant group differences in imitation ability (p = .05) or family quality of life (p = .22). Limitations There are several limitations with this study, including the small sample size as well as lack of data on enactment and website engagement. This study was not able to address questions related to which variables predict program engagement and treatment response, which will be critical for determining which families may benefit from such a stepped-care delivery model. Conclusions Overall, the Online RIT program delivered in a stepped-care format shows strong acceptability and holds promise as an innovative delivery model. Abstract
Objective: To identify the available evidence on the necessary information for the families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Method: An integrative literature review carried out in six databases with specific descriptors for each one. Studies published on the theme between January 2014 and February 2020 available in full and free of charge were selected. For synthesis and analysis of data, thematic categorization was performed. 41 articles were included.
Results: Two thematic categories were obtained. In the first category (“need for information”), the families’ lack of knowledge about ASD (treatment, how to deal with the child’s behavior, and future perspectives), rights of the child with ASD, and resources to obtain information were identified. The second category (“information support sources accessed by the families”) comprised informal sources (family members, friends, neighbors, and parents of children with ASD), formal sources (professionals and institutions), the Internet, and other resources (books, workshops, podcasts). Positive and negative aspects were found in the use of these sources.
Conclusions: A pattern of information requested by the family was verified, as well as sources used to obtain it. These data are relevant to support the organization of sources of informational support for the families and the community.
