Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare salpingectomy and detorsion procedures and investigate the biochemical and histopathological changes in the fallopian tubes in the experimentally isolated fallopian tube torsion model in rats. DESIGN Experimental study. SETTING Experimental surgery laboratory in a training and research hospital. ANIMAL(S) Twenty-seven Sprague-Dawley rats in the reproductive period. INTERVENTION(S) Group 1, control group (n = 6); group 2, bilateral total salpingectomy group after 4 hours of tubal ischemia (n = 7); group 3: 4 hours of bilateral tubal ischemia plus 1 week of reperfusion (n = 7); and group 4, 4-hour period of bilateral tubal ischemia plus 30 days of reperfusion (n = 7). A 22-gauge catheter was administered before and after surgery using methylene blue through the uterine horn of the rat to evaluate tubal patency. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) Preoperative and postoperative serum antimüllerian hormone (AMH) levels, histopathological examination of the rat tuba uterine and histopathological damage scores, antioxidant compounds (superoxide dismutase [SOD], catalase, and glutathione peroxidase [GSH-Px]), and oxidative stress end product levels (malondialdehyde [MDA] and 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine [8-OHdG]). RESULT(S) Although a significant difference was observed in the tissue SOD, GSH-Px, MDA, and 8-OHdG values, no significant difference was observed between the groups in serum samples. The tissue SOD and tissue GSH-Px levels in group 2 significantly decreased, and a significant increase was observed in the tissue MDA and 8-OHdG values in group 2. Among the histopathological parameters, epithelial changes, vascular congestion, and the total fallopian tube mean damage score of 4 showed a significant decrease in group 4. When the methylene blue transitions before and after ischemia-reperfusion injury were compared, the values of the methylene blue transition after ischemia-reperfusion injury in groups 2-4 significantly decreased. When the serum AMH levels were analyzed, the postoperative AMH value in group 2 significantly increased. CONCLUSION(S) This study reveals that biochemical and histopathological improvement is observed in the fallopian tube tissues gradually when the detorsion procedure is performed for the necrotized tubal tissue instead of salpingectomy. Although there is restoration of epithelial integrity after reperfusion, tubal passage remains absent. CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER This study was approved by the Local Ethics Committee for Animal Experiments of the Health Sciences University, Istanbul Hamidiye Medicine Faculty (approval number 27.05.2022-9269). The study followed the ethics standards recommended by the Declaration of Helsinki.

Abstract
The aim of this experimental animal study was to investigate the histopathological and biochemical efficacy of trimetazidine (TMZ) in decreasing ovary damage in an ovary ischaemia/reperfusion (I/R) model in the rat. A total of 35 Wistar albino female rats were randomly separated into five groups, n = 7 per group: Group 1: Sham (S) was only given a laparotomy procedure. Group 2: Ischaemia (I) group with 2-hour ischaemia using a vascular sutur. Group 3: Ischaemia/Reperfusion (I/R) group with 2 hour ischaemia and 2-hour reperfusion. Group 4: Sham + 10 mg/kg orally TMZ (S + TMZ). Group 5: I/R + 10 mg/kg oral TMZ (I/R + TMZ) group with 2 hours ischaemia and 2 hours reperfusion after the administration orally 10 mg/kg oral TMZ. Two daily doses of TMZ were orally administered to Group 4 (S + TMZ) and Group 5 (I/R + TMZ) for three days. TMZ significantly decreased vascular congestion, haemorrhage, and polymorphonuclear leukocyte infiltration in group 5 compared to group 3 (p < .05). Despite TMZ decreased the malondialdehyde, total oxidant status, and oxidative stress index values, these decreases were not statistically significant (p > .05). TMZ which is an antioxidant agent can efficiently prevent in I/R damage in rat ovaries but further studies are necessary in order to implement it in the clinical settings.IMPACT STATEMENTWhat is already known on this subject? Adnexial torsion is the most common gynecological emergency and there are no specific clinical, laboratories, or radiological findings for adnexal torsion. Unfortunatelly, the currently accepted treatment is adnexal detorsion. Cytoprotective effects of Trimetazidine (TMZ), an antianginal drug, are well-defined and it has been demonstrated to improve oxidative stress markers and limits membrane damage induced by reactive oxygen species and protects tissues from free radicals with its antioxidant effects. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of TMZ in experimentally induced adnexal torsion in rats and to investigate possible effects in maintaining ovarian reserve to prevent I/R damage or reperfusion damage.What do the results of this study add? Our study showed that TMZ significantly decreased vascular congestion, haemorrhage, and PMNL infiltration. TMZ decreased the malondialdehyde, total oxidant status, and the oxidative stress index values, but these decreases were not statistically significant.What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Although various antioxidant drugs and chemicals have been used to protect the ovaries against I/R damage, they have not been demostrated to prevent it completely. TMZ, an antioxidant efficacy agent, has been shown to prevent ovarian I/R damage by suppressing inflammation in terms of histopathological parameters. Further studies involving a greater number of experimental animals are required before using TMZ for the treatment of humans with I/R damage in the clinical setting.

Abstract
Background and Objective. 5-Fluorouracil is one of the most common chemotherapeutic agents used in the treatment of solid tumors. 5-Fluorouracil-associated cardiotoxicity is the second cause of cardiotoxicity induced by chemotherapeutic drugs after anthracyclines. Colchicine is a strong anti-inflammatory drug used to prevent and treat acute gout and treat familial Mediterranean fever. And also, its protective effects on cardiovascular disease have been reported in various studies. The current study is aimed at appraising the effect of colchicine on 5-fluorouracil-induced cardiotoxicity in rats. Methods. Twenty male Wistar rats were divided into four groups as follows: control, 5-fluorouracil, colchicine (5 mg/kg), and 5-fluorouracil+5 mg/kg colchicine. Cardiotoxicity was induced with an intraperitoneal injection of a single dose of 5-fluorouracil (100 mg/kg). The control group received normal saline, and the treatment groups received colchicine with an intraperitoneal injection for 14 days. Findings. 5-Fluorouracil resulted in significant cardiotoxicity represented by an increase in cardiac enzymes, malondialdehyde levels, cyclooxygenase-2 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha expression, cardiac enzymes, and histopathological degenerations. 5-Fluorouracil treatment also decreased body weight, total antioxidant capacity and catalase values, blood cells, and hemoglobin levels. In addition, 5-fluorouracil disrupted electrocardiographic parameters, including increased elevation in the ST segment and increased QRS duration. Treatment with colchicine reduced oxidative stress, cardiac enzymes, histopathological degenerations, and cyclooxygenase-2 expression in cardiac tissue, improved electrocardiographic disorders, and enhanced the number of blood cells and total antioxidant capacity levels. Moreover, body weight loss was hampered after treatment with colchicine. Our results demonstrated that treatment with colchicine significantly improved cardiotoxicity induced by 5-fluorouracil in rats.

Abstract
Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is typically associated with a vigorous inflammatory and oxidative stress response to hypoxia and reperfusion that disturbs the function of the organ. The remote effects of renal IRI on the liver, however, require further study. Renal damage associated with liver disease is a common clinical problem. Colchicine, a polymerization inhibitor of microtubules, has been used as an anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic drug for liver diseases. The goal of the current study was to investigate the possible protective mechanisms of colchicine on liver injury following renal IRI. Forty rats were divided randomly into four groups: sham group, colchicine-treated group, IRI group, and colchicine-treated + IRI group. Treatment with colchicine significantly reduced hepatic toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) transcription factor, myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) contents; downregulated BCL2 associated X apoptosis regulator (BAX) gene expression, transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) content, and upregulated hepatic B cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) gene expression as compared with the IRI group. Finally, hepatic histopathological examinations have confirmed the biochemical results. Renal IRI-induced liver damage in rats was alleviated by colchicine through its anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and anti-fibrotic actions.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the protective and antioxidant role of losartan in ovarian ischaemia and ischaemia/reperfusion injury in an experimental ovarian torsion model. Thirty adult female rats were used. Rats were separated randomly into five groups; Group 1: sham group (abdominal wall was only opened and closed), Group 2: torsion group with 3-hour ischaemia using atraumatic vascular clips. Group 3: torsion + losartan group with 3-hour ischaemia 30 minutes after the administration of 40 mg/kg of losartan via oral gavage. Group 4: torsion-detorsion group with 3-hour ischaemia and 3-hour reperfusion (vascular clips were removed). Group 5: torsion-detorsion + losartan group with 3-hour ischaemia followed by administration of 40 mg/kg of losartan 30 minutes prior to a 3-hour detorsion/reperfusion. Ovarian tissue damage was scored by histopathological analysis. Ovarian tissue malondialdehyde (MDA) and plasma pentraxin 3 (PTX 3) levels were measured biochemically. In comparison with the sham group, both the torsion and torsion-detorsion groups had significantly higher scores for follicular degeneration, vascular congestion, oedema, haemorrhage, and leukocyte infiltration (p < .05). The aforementioned parameters significantly decreased in the torsion-detorsion + losartan group (p < .01) compared to those in the torsion-detorsion group. MDA and plasma PTX 3 levels were notably higher both in the torsion and torsion-detorsion groups compared with those in the sham group (p < .01). The current experimental ovarian torsion study suggests a protective role for losartan upon ischaemia and ischaemia/reperfusion injury in rat ovaries. Losartan may be a novel agent for decreasing ovarian ischaemia/reperfusion injury in ovaries.Impact statementWhat is already known on this subject? Among gynaecological emergencies, the diagnosis of ovarian torsion is highly difficult. A delayed diagnosis may lead to ovarian necrosis and subsequent loss of ovaries if timely surgical intervention is not performed, which is essential for the fertility and protection of ovarian functions in young patients. However, reperfusion of the ischaemic tissue might leads to more serious damage to the tissue than the damage caused by ischaemia.What the results of this study add? This study found that losartan, an Ang II type 1 receptor blocker which has been currently used for regulation of blood pressure, could be used experimentally to alleviate I/R injury in ovary through improving histological parameters, reducing tissue MDA and plasma PTX3 levels. To date, there is no study regarding the usage of losartan for alleviating I/R on ovary due to torsion.What the implications are of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Losartan may be suggested to have therapeutic value in patients with ovarian torsion. Further large clinical studies are necessary to prove the beneficial effect of losartan to prevent I/R injury on human ovaries.

Abstract
Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) is a glycoprotein commonly used in the field of medicine to treat neutropenia. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor has also crucial roles in ameliorating the ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in particular tissues. In this study, we aimed to investigate the protective effect of G-CSF on ovarian damage in experimental ovarian I/R injury. Thirty adult female rats were used. Rats were separated randomly into 5 groups; Group 1: sham group (abdominal wall was opened and closed surgically), Group 2: torsion group with 3-hour ischemia using vascular clips. Group 3: torsion + G-CSF group with 3-hour ischemia 30 minutes after the administration intraperitoneal (i.p.) of 100 µg/kg of G-CSF. Group 4: torsion-detorsion group with 3 hour ischemia and 3 hour reperfusion. Group 5: torsion-detorsion + G-CSF group with 3 hour ischemia followed by 100 µg/kg of G-CSF i.p. administration 30 minutes prior to 3 hour of detorsion/reperfusion. Ovarian tissue damage was scored on histopathology. Ovarian tissue malondialdehyde (MDA) was measured biochemically. In comparison with the sham group, both the torsion and torsion-detorsion groups had significantly higher scores for follicular degeneration, vascular congestion, edema, hemorrhage, and leukocyte infiltration (P < .05). When compared group torsion-detorsion + G-CSF to group torsion-detorsion, parameters aforementioned significantly decreased in group torsion-detorsion + G-CSF (P < .05). Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor has also decreased MDA levels notably both in the torsion + G-CSF and torsion-detorsion + G-CSF groups (P < .05, P < .01). Our experimental study suggests that G-CSF can be a novel agent for the treatment of ovarian I/R injury.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the protective effects of glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) and chrysin (CH) on experimental ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in rat ovaries using tissue oxidative stress marker levels, hormone levels, and histopathological scores. Methods Sixty healthy rats were randomly divided into six equal groups: control, I/R, I/R + CH (50 mg/kg/day), I/R + GA (100 mg/kg/day), CH (50 mg/kg/day), and GA (100 mg/kg/day). Biochemical, hormonal, and histopathological evaluations were performed on blood and tissue samples 14 days after CH and GA treatment. Results The antioxidant defense system parameters were significantly higher in the ovarian tissues of the I/R + CH and I/R + GA groups than in those of the I/R group. Serum follicle-stimulating hormone levels were significantly reduced, and serum anti-Müllerian hormone levels were significantly increased in rats treated with CH and GA compared with those in the I/R group. Additionally, the histopathological scores of the I/R + CH and I/R + GA groups were significantly improved compared with those of the I/R group. Conclusions The significant improvements in tissue oxidative stress parameters, serum hormone levels, and histological scores observed in this study indicate that treatment with CH or GA may be a conservative approach to prevent I/R injury in adnexal torsion cases after the ovarian detorsion procedure.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the antioxidant effects of tempol on ovarian ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in rats. Forty female Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: Group I, sham; Group II, ischemia (I); Group III, I/R; Group IV, I/R + tempol 30 mg/kg i.p; Group V, I/R + tempol 50 mg/kg i.p. Oxidative stress index (OSI) was significantly higher in the ischemia group and the I/R group than in the sham group. Catalase levels were significantly lower in the I/R group than in the I/R + tempol 30 mg/kg i.p. and the I/R + tempol 50 mg/kg i.p. groups. Glutathione peroxidase levels were lower in the I/R group than in the I/R + tempol 30 mg/kg i.p. and the I/R + tempol 50 mg/kg i.p. groups. MDA levels were significantly lower in the I/R + tempol 30 mg/kg i.p. group and the I/R + tempol 50 mg/kg i.p. group than in the I/R group. The levels of the histopathological parameters were significantly decreased in the I/R + tempol 50 mg/kg i.p. group compared with the I/R group. Tempol can be used for reducing ovarian I/R injury.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of the present study is to investigate the efficiency of colchicine and melatonın in an experimental rat testicular torsion model in the light of histological and biochemical data. METHODS A total of 34 Wistar albino male rats were randomly divided into 5 groups as: Group C (control, n=6), Group S (sham; underwent only left scrotal exploration, n=7), Group TD (torsion and detorsion; 6h of ischemia and 7days of reperfusion, n=7), Group TD/M (TD+Melatonin; 6h of ischemia and 7days of reperfusion and 7days of 17mg/kg intraperitoneal melatonin per day, n=7), group TD/Col (TD+Colchicine; 6h of ischemia and 7days of reperfusion and 7days of 1mg/kg oral colchicine per day, n=7). Histopathologic evaluation of seminiferous tubule deterioration was performed by Johnsen's scoring system. Total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), IL-6, TNF alpha levels were analyzed in each group. RESULTS The histopathologic scores, total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), IL-6, TNF alpha levels in groups C and TD/Col were significantly lower than groups TD and TD/M (P<.001). CONCLUSION Our study results revealed that colchicine reduced testicular ischemia-reperfusion injury in experimental rat testis torsion model. Although detorsion of testis is crucial for the preserving the testicular viability, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory treatment modalities like colchicine might help to reduce ischemia-reperfusion injury in detorsed testis.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and enoxaparin on ovarian tissue preservation, ovarian reserve and oxidative damage following ovarian torsion/detorsion injury. Rats were divided into four groups (n = 6/group): control; ischaemia/reperfusion (I/R); I/R + NAC; I/R + enoxaparin. Twenty-four hours after detorsion, ovarian tissues were collected for histopathological analysis and measurement of tissue 8-OHdG, GSH, MDA, MPO and SOD concentrations, as well as pre- and post-operative circulating AMH concentrations. Administration of NAC resulted in more pre-antral follicles compared with enoxaparin treatment and haemorrhage and follicle cell degeneration were more pronounced in I/R + enoxaparin group than I/R + NAC group. Both NAC and enoxaparin led to a significant reduction in ovarian tissue 8-OHdG (P = 0.004 and P = 0.01, respectively) and MPO (P = 0.013 and P = 0.023, respectively) concentrations compared with I/R group, indicating a protective effect against I/R oxidative damage. Only NAC-treated animals showed a significant increase in GSH and SOD concentrations and decrease in MDA concentrations compared with I/R group (P = 0.007, P = 0.024 and P = 0.026, respectively). These results indicate that NAC is more effective than enoxaparin in minimizing ovarian damage and preserving ovarian reserve following ovarian torsion.
