Abstract
BACKGROUND The ability to predict the risk of poor outcome following knee cruciate ligament reconstruction in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) population would help direct individual rehabilitation programmes and workforce planning. This study describes the epidemiology of cruciate ligament reconstruction in the ADF and demonstrates the use of Bayesian networks (BN) to predict the likelihood of fitness for ongoing service under different scenarios. METHODS Members who had knee cruciate ligament reconstruction through ADF were identified from billing data and matched to electronic medical records to extract demographic and clinical data. Outcome measure was medical fitness for ADF service up to 24 months after reconstruction. BN models were used to compare outcomes between (1) age groups according to military service, and (2) sexes according to body mass index (BMI). RESULTS From November 2012 to June 2019, a total of 1199 individuals had knee cruciate ligament reconstruction (average 169 reconstructions/year). Following reconstruction and rehabilitation, 89 (7.4%) were medically unfit for service. Scenario analysis using a tree-augmented naïve BN model showed that, compared with Navy and Air Force, Army members had a higher probability of being unfit in those aged <35 years and a lower probability in those aged ≥35 years. In both sexes, those with obese BMI had the greatest probability of being unfit. CONCLUSION While most ADF members were fit for ongoing military service following cruciate ligament reconstruction, service type, age, sex and BMI influenced outcome. BNs provided an interactive and intuitive method to demonstrate the impact of different variables on the outcome.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Long-term outcomes for isolated anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions in competitive American football athletes are well reported in the literature, but little data currently exist regarding multiligament knee injury (MLKI) reconstruction outcomes. PURPOSE To examine patient-reported and return-to-sport outcomes of competitive American football athletes who underwent primary, single-staged, multiligament knee reconstruction. STUDY DESIGN Case series; Level of evidence, 4. METHODS We identified patients from our institution's prospectively collected data repository between 2001 and 2020 who underwent single-staged surgical reconstruction of an MLKI sustained during competitive participation in American football. We assessed patient-reported outcomes at a minimum of 2 years after surgery using the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) Subjective Knee Form and questions regarding surgical satisfaction and return to sport. Successful return to sport was defined as a return to preinjury level of competition. We summarized all outcome data and compared outcomes between 2-ligament and >2-ligament groups and between ACL-only MLKI injury and bicruciate MLKI injury groups using independent t test for IKDC scores and chi-square test for return to sport. Additionally, we evaluated predictors of postoperative IKDC scores using linear regression and predictors of return to sport using logistic regression. RESULTS Outcome data were successfully collected for 53 of 73 total eligible patients (73%; mean follow-up time, 7.7 ± 4.0 years; all male; mean age at surgery, 18.1 ± 2.7 years). The mean postoperative IKDC score was 84 ± 16. The most common level of preinjury competition was high school (n = 36; 68%), followed by college (n = 10; 19%). Seven patients did not return to sport competition at any level due to limitations from their knee surgery, and 82% of patients that attempted to return to preinjury level of sport were able to do so. A total of 50 patients (94%) were satisfied or very satisfied with their surgical outcome. The 2-ligament (n = 39) and >2-ligament (n = 14) groups did not significantly differ in IKDC scores (P = .96) or proportions with successful return to sport (P = .77). Similarly, the ACL-MLKI injury (n = 39) and bicruciate MLKI injury (n = 14) groups did not significantly differ in IKDC scores (P = .89) or proportions with successful return to sport (P = .77). Age and body mass index were not significantly associated with IKDC scores or successful return to sport at follow-up (all P > .05). CONCLUSION This study may represent the largest cohort of competitive American football athletes evaluated for longitudinal outcomes after multiligament knee reconstruction. Despite the severity of these injuries, we found good knee-related function and that the large majority of athletes who attempted to return to sport were successful. The majority of athletes (94%) were satisfied with their operative treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Outcomes after posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction (PCLR) have been reported to be inferior to those of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Furthermore, combined ligament injuries have been reported to have inferior outcomes compared with isolated PCLR. PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS The purpose of this study was to report on PCLR outcomes and failure rates and compare these outcomes between isolated PCLR and multiligament knee surgery involving the PCL. The hypothesis was that combined PCL injury reconstruction would have higher rates of subjective failure and revision relative to isolated PCLR. STUDY DESIGN Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS Patients with primary PCLR with or without concomitant ligament injuries registered in the Norwegian Knee Ligament Registry between 2004 and 2021 were included. Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) totals were collected preoperatively and at 2 years and 5 years postoperatively. The primary outcome measure was failure, defined as either a revision surgery or a KOOS Quality of Life (QoL) subscale score <44. RESULTS The sample included 631 primary PCLR procedures, with 185 (29%) isolated PCLR procedures and 446 (71%) combined reconstructions, with a median follow-up time of 7.3 and 7.9 years, respectively. The majority of patients had poor preoperative knee function as defined by a KOOS QoL score <44 (90.1% isolated PCLR, 85.7% combined PCL injuries; P = .24). Subjective outcomes improved significantly at 2- and 5-year follow-up compared with preoperative assessments in both groups (P < .001); however, at 2 years, 49.5% and 46.5% had subjective failure (KOOS QoL <44) for isolated PCLR and combined PCLR, respectively (P = .61). At 5 years, the subjective failure rates of isolated and combined PCLR were 46.7% and 34.2%, respectively (P = .04). No significant difference was found in revision rates between the groups at 5 years (1.9% and 4.6%, respectively; P = .07). CONCLUSION Patients who underwent PCLR had improved KOOS QoL scores relative to their preoperative state. However, the subjective failure rate was high for both isolated and multiligament PCLR. Within the first 2 years after surgery, patients who undergo isolated PCLR can be expected to have similar failure rates to patients who undergo combined ligament reconstructions.

Abstract
CONTEXT Knee injury and subsequent surgery are widespread in the military setting. Associations between knee surgery and expected outcomes over time have not been consolidated and characterized systematically by procedure type across the body of literature, and the temporal expectations of these outcomes remain unclear. OBJECTIVE To summarize common postoperative follow-up times and associated outcomes that determine clinical or surgical failure in US service members after elective knee surgery. DATA SOURCES A systematic search was conducted with 3 bibliographic databases of published research reports from 2010 through 2021. STUDY SELECTION Studies in US military service members undergoing elective knee surgery, with a minimum of 1-year follow-up, and reporting on a functional/occupational outcome were included. Three reviewers screened all abstracts and full-text articles to determine eligibility. STUDY DESIGN Systematic review of longitudinal cohort studies. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level 2a. DATA EXTRACTION Extracted data included military demographics, surgical procedure variables, surveillance period, and outcome measures. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach were used to determine study quality and risk of bias. RESULTS A total of 22 studies (mean follow-up time of 40.7 months) met the inclusion criteria. For cruciate ligament repair, approximately one-third of patients required a second surgery or were medically separated from military service by 2 years from surgery; 100% were reinjured by 4 years, and 85% sustained a new injury within 5 years of surgery. For meniscal repair, nearly one-third of patients were medically separated, and half were placed on activity restrictions within 3 years of surgery. For articular cartilage repair, within 5 years, 39% of patients required a second surgery, 30% were placed on activity restrictions, and 36% were medically separated. For patellar repair, 37% of patients were medically separated and over half were placed on activity restrictions within 5 years. CONCLUSION Common knee surgeries can have long-term implications for military careers that may not become apparent with shorter follow-up periods (<2 years). When longer surveillance periods are used (eg, up to 5 years), additional surgical procedures are more common and the likelihood of being injured or medically separated from military service is higher.

Abstract
The primary posterior stabilizer of the knee is the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), the largest intra-articular ligament in the human knee. One of the four primary ligaments of the knee joint, the PCL, serves to support the tibia on the femur. An extreme force applied anteriorly to the proximal tibia of the flexed knee results in trauma to the PCL. Dashboard injuries, which occur when the knee is driven into the dashboard after a collision with a motor vehicle, are frequent causes. Grade 1 and 2 acute injuries are often addressed conservatively due to the PCL's natural capacity for mending. If a grade 3 injury occurs, a cautious trial can be conducted on elderly or low-demand patients. When standard treatment for isolated grade 3 injuries has failed, surgery is advised. Single-bundle or double-bundle techniques using either transtibial tunnel or tibial inlay techniques are among the reconstruction approaches. Restoring the natural kinematics of the knee and forestalling persistent posterior and mixed rotatory knee laxity are the ultimate goals of treating PCL injuries through a personalized strategy. These injuries may become more common in the future as more people participate in sports. As a result of ongoing instability, discomfort, diminished function, and the emergence of inflammatory and degenerative disorders of joints, PCL rips are becoming more well-acknowledged as a cause of morbidity and decreased function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Researchers have assessed postoperative injury or disability predictors in the military setting but typically focused on 1 type of surgical procedure at a time, used relatively small sample sizes, or investigated mixed cohorts with civilian populations. PURPOSE To identify the relationship between baseline variables and injury incidence or military discharge status in US Army soldiers after knee surgery. STUDY DESIGN Case-control study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS Data were obtained from a repository containing personnel, performance, and medical records for all active-duty US Army soldiers. Multivariate logistic regressions were used to estimate the effects of numerous variables on postoperative injury or on medical discharge. Variable selection and model validation were conducted using the k-fold method. RESULTS A total of 7567 soldiers underwent knee surgery between 2017 and 2019. Meniscal procedures were the most common type of surgery (39%), and approximately 71% of the cohort had a postoperative injury. Significant predictors for sustaining a postoperative injury included having a previous nonknee injury (odds ratio [OR], 1.5), female sex (OR, 1.3), and Black race (OR, 1.2). Within 4 years after surgery, 17% of soldiers were discharged from the military because of knee-related disability. Significant predictors for discharge from duty included enlisted rank (OR, 2.3), recent fitness test failure (OR, 1.9), number of previous knee surgeries (OR, 1.7), and having a previous nonknee injury (OR, 1.6). CONCLUSION After knee surgery, nearly three-fourths of the soldiers in this cohort sustained a postoperative injury and almost one-fifth of soldiers were medically discharged from the military within 4 years. This study identified variables that indicate statistically increased risk for these postoperative outcomes and highlighted potentially modifiable factors.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Posterior cruciate ligament injuries can be treated conservatively with a structured rehabilitation program or with surgical reconstruction. Treatment algorithms are based on a variety of factors including the patient's presentation, physical exam, and desired level of activity. The goal is to return the patient to their athletic pursuits with a stable and pain-free knee. Return to play and activities should be individualized based on the patient's injury and progression through rehabilitation. This article provides a review of the current treatments for posterior cruciate ligament injuries and the respective rehabilitation protocols, outcomes after each treatment option, and specific return to play criteria. RECENT FINDINGS Current research shows excellent outcomes and return to play with conservative treatment of isolated posterior cruciate ligament injuries. Return to play algorithms stress the importance of quadriceps strengthening throughout the recovery process and emphasize inclusion of plyometrics and sport-specific training. Rehabilitation plays a critical role in the outcome after posterior cruciate ligament injury and the ability to return to athletics. The primary focus of post-injury or post-operative rehabilitation is to restore function, as it relates to range of motion, strength, and proprioception, while mitigating swelling and pain. The patients' desired sport and level of play dictate return to play timelines. The literature supports the use of non-operative management of isolated PCL injuries in athletes and non-athletes with excellent functional and patient-reported outcomes.

Abstract
Purpose To evaluate 1-year outcomes in active-duty servicemembers who underwent patellar tendon rupture repair and to identify baseline variables associated with return to activity. Methods We performed a retrospective review of all active-duty servicemembers undergoing primary patellar tendon rupture repair between 2009 and 2014. All patients had a minimum 12-month follow-up. Demographic variables were recorded, as well as ability to return to impact activities and remain on active-duty status. Rates of recurrent rupture and revision surgery were identified. Univariate analysis was performed to assess relations between outcomes and baseline variables. Results A total of 123 patients met the inclusion criteria (average age, 33.5 ± 6.6 years; 99% male patients) with a mean follow-up period of 4.3 ± 2.2 years. Whereas 67.4% of patients returned to running at an average of 8.3 months from index surgery, only 42.4% of patients resumed unrestricted occupational function. Higher rates of return to running were observed among patients with senior military rank (P = .046). Senior military rank was also associated with a higher rate of return to unrestricted active-duty status (P = .006). Logistic regression analysis showed an association between postoperative pain (odds ratio [OR], 0.684; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.56-0.84; P < .001) and return to running, between postoperative pain (OR, 0.77; 95% CI, 0.60-0.98; P = .033) and return to active duty, and between rank (OR, 2.06; 95% CI, 1.04-4.07; P = .037) and return to active duty. Patients who sustained injuries during deployment had a higher rate of recurrent rupture (26.1% vs 9.3%, P = .028). Conclusions At 1-year follow-up, approximately two-thirds of military servicemembers undergoing primary patellar tendon repair had returned to running after surgery, whereas fewer than one-half returned to full military duty. Younger age and more senior military rank were associated with higher rates of return to running. Additionally, servicemembers of higher rank, particularly officers, had statistically higher rates of return to unrestricted activity. Level of Evidence Level IV, therapeutic case series.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of posterior tibial slope (PTS) on patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) graft failure after PCL reconstruction. METHODS Patients undergoing PCL reconstruction with a minimum 2-year follow-up were included in this retrospective cohort study. A chart review was performed to collect patient-, injury-, and surgery-related data. Medial PTS was measured on preoperative lateral radiographs. Validated PROs, including the International Knee Documentation Committee Subjective Knee Form, Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score, Lysholm Score, Tegner Activity Scale, and Visual Analogue Scale for pain, were collected at final follow-up. A correlation analysis was conducted to assess the relationship between PTS and PROs. A logistic regression model was performed to evaluate if PTS could predict PCL graft failure. RESULTS Overall, 79 patients with a mean age of 28.6 ± 11.7 years and a mean follow-up of 5.7 ± 3.3 years were included. After a median time from injury of 4.0 months, isolated and combined PCL reconstruction was performed in 22 (28%) and 57 (72%) patients, respectively. There were no statistically significant differences in PROs and PTS between patients undergoing isolated and combined PCL reconstruction (non-significant [n.s.]). There were no significant correlations between PTS and PROs (n.s.). In total, 14 (18%) patients experienced PCL graft failure after a median time of 17.5 months following PCL reconstruction. Patients with PCL graft failure were found to have statistically significantly lower PTS than patients without graft failure (7.0 ± 2.3° vs. 9.2 ± 3.3°, p < 0.05), while no differences were found in PROs (n.s.). PTS was shown to be a significant predictor of PCL graft failure, with a 1.3-fold increase in the odds of graft failure for each one-degree reduction in PTS (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS This study showed that PTS does not affect PROs after PCL reconstruction, but that PTS represents a surgically modifiable predictor of PCL graft failure. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE III.

Abstract
Objective During PCL reconstruction surgery, precise and personalized positioning of the graft tunnel is very important. In order to obtain patient‐specific anatomical data, we established a three‐dimensional knee joint fusion model to provide a unified imaging strategy, as well as anatomical information, for individualized and accurate posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction. Methods This is an exploration study. From January 2019 to January 2020, 20 healthy adults randomly were enrolled and assessed via CT and MRI imaging. A three‐dimensional fusion model of the knee joint was generated using the modified MIMIMICS and image fusion software. On the fused image, the areas of the femoral and tibial PCL footprint of both knees were measured. The anatomical center of the PCL footprint was measured at the femoral and tibial ends. The relevant bony landmarks surrounding the PCL femoral and tibial attachment were also measured. Paired t‐tests were employed for all statistical analyzes, and p < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results All 20 subjects achieved successful image fusion modeling and measurement, with an average duration of 12 h. The lengths of the LF1‐LF3 were 32.1 ± 1.8, 6.8 ± 2.5, and 23.3 ± 2.1 mm, respectively. The lengths of the LT1‐LT3 were 37.3 ± 3.3, 45.6 ± 5.3, and 6.0 ± 1.2 mm, respectively. The distances between the tibial PCL center of the left knee to the medial groove, champagne‐glass drop‐off, and the apex of the medial intercondylar were 8.4 ± 2.4, 9.2 ± 1.8, and 15.3 ± 1.4 mm, respectively, and the corresponding distances from the right knee were 8.0 ± 2.0, 9.4 ± 2.2, and 16.1 ± 1.8 mm, respectively. We observed no difference between the bilateral sides, in terms of the distance from the PCL center to the PCL attachment‐related landmark, under arthroscopic guidance. The area of the femoral and tibial PCL footprints on the left knee were 115.3 ± 33.5 and 146.6 ± 24.4 mm2, respectively, and the corresponding areas on the right knee were 121.8 ± 35.6 and 142.8 ± 19.5 mm2, respectively. There was no difference between the bilateral sides in terms of the PCL footprint areas. Conclusion In the fusion image, the PCL attachment center and relevant bony landmarks which can be easily identified under arthroscopy can be accurately measured. The model can also obtain personalized anatomical data of the PCL on the unaffected side of the patient, which can guide clinical PCL reconstruction.

Open reduction and internal fixation of the tibial avulsion fracture of the posterior cruciate ligament: which is better, a hollow lag screw combined with a gasket or a homemade hook plate? Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the clinical results of homemade hook plates and hollow lag screws combined with spacers in the treatment of posterior cruciate tibial ligament avulsion fractures. MATERIALS AND METHODS This was a retrospective clinical cohort study that included 64 patients with PCL tibial avulsion fractures. Thirty-two of them were fixed with a homemade hook plate (hook plate group), and 32 were fixed with a hollow lag screen combined with a gasket (hollow lag screen group). By reviewing the medical record data and follow-up results, the operation time, postoperative drainage, fracture healing time, surgical complications, knee mobility, recovery of joint function, and whether postoperative gastrocnemius muscle strength changed in the two groups were compared. RESULTS All patients had successful wound and fracture healing. No adverse events, such as bone nonunion, infection, wound haematoma, or joint stiffness, occurred in either group. There were no patients with decreased gastrocnemius muscle strength in either group. Internal fixation failure occurred in 2 cases in the hollow lag screen group but not in the hook plate group. There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of operative time, postoperative drainage, fracture healing time, knee mobility at the last follow-up, or Lysholm score. CONCLUSION It is safe and effective to use a homemade hook plate to fix PCL tibial avulsion fractures through an inverted L-shaped posterior medial approach. A homemade hook plate may have potential advantages over a hollow lag screen combined with gasket fixation.

Abstract
This study aims to determine whether surgery for cruciate ligament (anterior or posterior) or meniscus injury increased risks of subsequent comorbidities in beneficiaries of the Military Health System. The study was a retrospective case-control design in which individuals with cruciate or meniscus injuries were divided into two groups (surgery or none). Data were pulled 12 months prior and 24 months following each respective event and presence of comorbidities were compared between the two groups. Bivariate analyses and logistic regression were used to determine if surgery increased the odds of comorbidities. Participants included 1,686 with a cruciate ligament injury (30.1% treated surgically) and 13,146 with a meniscus injury (44.4% treated surgically). Bivariate comparisons of surgery versus nonsurgical treatment found multiple significant differences. After adjusting for covariates, a significant (p < 0.05) protective effect was seen only for meniscus surgery for concussion, insomnia, other mental health disorders, depression, and substance abuse. Surgery had no increased/decreased risk of comorbidities for cruciate ligament injuries. For meniscus injuries, surgery demonstrated a protective effect for six of the comorbidities we assessed. The treatment approach (surgery vs. nonsurgical) did not change the risk of comorbidities in those with a cruciate ligament injury. It is noteworthy that three of the six comorbidities involved mental health disorders. Although the study design does not allow for determination of causation, these findings should compel future prospective study designs that could confirm these findings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the clinical effects of an inverted L-shaped postero-medial approach with a homemade hook plate and arthroscopic fixation with Endobutton for tibial avulsion fractures of the posterior cruciate ligament. METHODS The clinical data of 36 patients with PCL tibial avulsion fractures from January 2012 to December 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. The fractures were classified into Meyers-McKeever types II and III. Among them, 20 cases were treated with a homemade hook plate through an inverted L-shaped postero-medial approach (incision group), and 16 cases were treated with Endobutton under arthroscopy (arthroscopic group). The operative time, fracture union time, operative complications and range of motion of the knee joint were compared between the two groups. The stability of the knee joint was tested by the posterior drawer test, the functional recovery of the knee joint was evaluated by the Lysholm score, and the gastrocnemius muscle strength of the incision group was tested by performing heel raises with a single leg stance. RESULTS There were no adverse events, such as fracture nonunion, infection, deep-vein thrombosis, abnormal hematoma or joint stiffness, in either group. The operative time was shorter in the incision group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in fracture union time between the two groups (P > 0.05). At the last follow-up, there was no significant difference in range of motion or the Lysholm score between the two groups. There was no decrease in gastrocnemius muscle strength in the incision group. CONCLUSIONS The fixation of PCL tibial avulsion fractures with a homemade hook plate through an inverted L-shaped postero-medial approach is safe and effective. It showed almost the same satisfactory outcomes as arthroscopic Endobutton fixation.

Abstract
Isolated and combined posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries are associated with severe limitations in daily, professional, and sports activities as well as with devastating long-term effects for the knee joint. As the number of primary and recurrent PCL injuries increases, so does the body of literature, with high-quality evidence evolving in recent years. However, the debate about the ideal treatment approach such as; operative vs. non-operative; single-bundle vs. double-bundle reconstruction; transtibial vs. tibial inlay technique, continues. Ultimately, the goal in the treatment of PCL injuries is restoring native knee kinematics and preventing residual posterior and combined rotatory knee laxity through an individualized approach. Certain demographic, anatomical, and surgical risk factors for failures in operative treatment have been identified. Failures after PCL reconstruction are increasing, confronting the treating surgeon with challenges including the need for revision PCL reconstruction. Part 2 of the evidence-based update on the management of primary and recurrent PCL injuries will summarize the outcomes of operative and non-operative treatment including indications, surgical techniques, complications, and risk factors for recurrent PCL deficiency. This paper aims to support surgeons in decision-making for the treatment of PCL injuries by systematically evaluating underlying risk factors, thus preventing postoperative complications and recurrent knee laxity. Abstract
Purpose To evaluate the evidence of the effectiveness and safety of allografts compared to autografts in posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Methods Four electronic databases were systematically searched for eligible randomized controlled studies. Crucial effectiveness outcomes included patient-reported function, activity level and symptoms, clinical knee stability, health-related quality of life, and patient satisfaction. Safety was evaluated through graft failures, revisions, reruptures and complications. The internal validity of the studies was assessed by the Cochrane risk of bias tool, and the strength of the evidence was judged according to the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE). Results Two randomized controlled studies were included: 50 patients were analyzed in the allograft group and 58 in the autograft group. No statistically significant postoperative differences were reported between the groups for patient-reported function, activity levels or symptoms. One study reported a statistically significant difference in instrumented postoperative anteroposterior knee laxity favoring stability in autografts. This difference is, however, not relevant in the clinical setting. Insufficient evidence was found to judge safety outcomes and because complications were poorly measured, and none of the studies reported on graft failure, revision or rerupture rates. The studies were judged with unclear to high risk of bias. The strength of the evidence for effectiveness and safety was judged to be low to very low, according to GRADE. Conclusions Allografts may be comparable to autografts for crucial effectiveness outcomes, but insufficient evidence was found to judge crucial safety outcomes due to poor reporting of safety measures and outcomes. Results should be interpreted with caution because there is lack of good-quality evidence to support the superiority of allografts over autografts due to the high risk of bias in the primary studies and overall very low strength of the body of evidence according to GRADE. Abstract
The analysis of literature data was performed on the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of injuries of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) of the knee joint. PCL is the largest intra-articular ligament of the knee joint, can withstand the maximum loads compared with other ligaments. It was noted that, in general, in cases of damage to the PCL, it is necessary to use a set of diagnostic methods, and the basic principles for the choice of optimal treatment plan for this patient. It considered the results of the conservative treatment of PCL partial ruptures, and it is indicated that this approach increases the risk of degenerative anatomical structures and functional disorders of the joint. It was noted that it is advisable to conduct surgical treatment to restore the stability of the knee joint and normalize function, while a number of methods for the reconstruction of PCL have been proposed to date. The usage of chondroprotectors for prevention of the secondary osteoarthrosis of the knee joint affected by posterior cruciate ligament rupture was analyzed in the literature data.
