Abstract
Meagre (Argyrosomus regius) is one of the fast-growing species considered for sustainable aquaculture development along the Mediterranean and Eastern Atlantic coasts. The emergence of Systemic Granulomatosis (SG), a disease marked by multiple granulomas in various tissues, poses a significant challenge in meagre aquaculture. In the current study, we investigate the association of Mycobacterium spp. and SG in offshore aquaculture facilities in Sardinia, Italy. A total of 34 adult seemingly healthy meagre were arbitrarily collected and analyzed, combining histological, microbiological, molecular, metagenomics, and in situ techniques to investigate the presence of pathogens. Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN), periodic acid-schiff (PAS), and Giemsa stains were performed for the detection of acid-fast bacteria, common parasites, and fungi within granulomas, respectively. Granulomas were detected in 91% (31/34) of fish. The affected organs were kidney (88%), liver (47%), heart (41%), intestine (17.6%), and brain (5%). Acid-fast staining, along with Mycobacterium spp. specific quantitative PCR (qPCR), in situ hybridization (ISH) assay, and microbiological analyses showed negative results for the detection of Mycobacterium spp. and other bacteria implicated in granuloma formation. However, PCR amplification and sequencing of the 65-kDa heat shock protein gene revealed the presence of M. chelonae in 13% of both formalin-fixed and frozen liver tissues. Bacterial isolation failed to detect nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) and other bacteria typically associated with granulomas. Consistently, the use of an M. chelonae-specific probe in ISH failed to identify this bacterial species in granulomas. Collectively, results do not support the role of M. chelonae in the development of granulomas and suggest rejecting the hypothesis of a potential link between NTM and SG.

Abstract
This report presents an intriguing case of a mineralized lesion resembling calcinosis circumscripta observed in the caudal peduncle of a wels catfish, housed in a public aquarium in northern Italy. The investigation encompasses a comprehensive analysis of various aspects, including clinical presentation, diagnostic imaging, as well as gross and microscopic pathology, and immunohistochemistry. Histopathology, in particular, highlighted a severe focally extensive granulomatous reaction, confirmed by dense histiocytic inflammatory infiltrates and the massive presence of multinucleated foreign body type giant cells localized around lakes and aggregates of mineralized material. Moreover, the usefulness and limitations of immunohistochemistry and special stains in characterizing fish tissues and cell types are highlighted. Although reported in elasmobranchs and sturgeons, to our knowledge, this is the first description of calcinosis circumscripta in teleost fish and it offers valuable insights into the understanding of similar pathologies in aquatic organisms.

Abstract
The interferon receptor system in teleost fish is more complex than that in mammals. In the present study, we identified 13 cytokine receptor genes (10 interferon receptor genes and 3 IL10R2-like genes) from Chinese sturgeon (Acipenser sinensis) using RNA-sequencing. Sequence analysis indicated that these receptors had conserved domains, including signal peptides, FNⅢ, and transmembrane domains. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that they belonged to the cytokine receptor family. In the present study, we named them IFNAR1-like (CRFB5a, CRFB5b), IFNAR2-like (CRFB3a, CRFB3b), IFNGR1-like (IFNGR1), IFNGR2-like (CRFB6a, CRFB6b/IFNGR2-1, CRFB6c/IFNGR2-2, CRFB6d/IFNGR2-3, CRFB6e/IFNGR2-4) and IL10R2-like (CRFB4a, CRFB4b, CRFB4c), respectively. Constitutive expression analysis revealed that these receptor genes had potential functions in immune and non-immune tissue compartments. After stimulating with Poly (I:C), the expression fold changes of CRFB3a, CRFB4a, CRFB4b, CRFB5b, and CRFB6e/IFNGR2-4 in Chinese sturgeon were higher than those of other receptor genes, which revealed that these five genes had important functions in the immune process to resist virus invasion in the host. After stimulating with IFN gamma, the expression fold changes of CRFB3a, CRFB4a, and CRFB6b/IFNGR2-1 were higher than those other receptor genes. Based on other teleost fish interferon receptor models, we speculated that IFNAR1-like (CRFB5a, CRFB5b) and IFNAR2-like (CRFB3a, CRFB3b), comprised Chinese sturgeon type Ⅰ IFN receptors; and IFNGR1-like (IFNGR1) and IFNGR2-like (CRFB6/IFNGR2) comprised Chinese sturgeon type Ⅱ IFN receptors.

Abstract
Citrobacter freundii is one of the important bacterial diseases responsible for disease outbreaks to wild and cultured fishes globally. However, no known empirical research has focused on exploring relationships between immune response after C. freundii infection in sturgeons. In this study, C. freundii was isolated and identified from artificially breeding Chinese sturgeon, and global measurement of transcriptome response to C. freundii infection in head-kidney and spleen of A. sinensis were conducted to the acknowledgement of the potential mechanisms of pathogen-host interaction triggered by the bacterial infection. In total, differentially expressed genes which significantly associated with immune responses were found to be participated in antigen processing and presentation (MHC I, MHC II, HspA1, Hsp90A, Hsp70, CTSL, and CTSE), and acute phase response (serotransferrin and CP), as well as changing of other immune-related cytokine, such as chemokine and interferon, which proving their reacting and regulatory role during the response of thehost against C. freundii infection in fish. C. freundii can cause serious disease in sturgeon species was first reported in this study, and innate immune responses to C. freundii infection in this study will be conducive to understand the defense mechanisms and making appropriate prevention strategies in A. sinensis aquaculture operations.

Abstract
Granulomatous lesions were observed in the swim bladder, kidney, spleen and gills of two farmed Japanese pufferfish (Takifugu rubripes) infected with Mycobacterium chelonae. Three types of lesions were noted: unencapsulated clusters of epithelioid cells without central necrosis (type 1), encapsulated granulomas without central necrosis (type 2) and encapsulated granulomas with central necrosis (type 3). Type 3 lesions occurred most frequently in the swim bladder, while type 1 and type 2 lesions occurred frequently in the kidney and spleen, and the gills exhibited mostly type 1 lesions. This suggests that the lesions in the swim bladder were more fully developed than those occurring elsewhere and that the swim bladder may be more susceptible to infection with M. chelonae. This is the first report describing the histopathological features of M. chelonae infection in Tetraodontidae.

Abstract
Mycobacterium marinum is a slow-growing non-tuberculous mycobacterium, and it is considered the most common aetiologic agent of mycobacteriosis in wild and cultured fish. The diagnosis is principally made by histology when positive Ziehl-Neelsen stain granulomas are detected. The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence of mycobacteriosis in extensively cultured Mugilidae of two lagoons (Cabras and San Teodoro) from Sardinia by the use of histology, microbiology, PCR and DNA sequencing. Nine of 106 mullets examined were affected by mycobacteriosis, and the spleen was the most affected organ. The histology detected higher rate (100%) of infection in spleen than the culture and PCR (75% and 62.5%, respectively). The sequencing of hsp65 gene identified M. marinum as the primary cause of mycobacteriosis in the mullets examined. Mullets affected by mycobacteriosis were mainly fished in the San Teodoro lagoon characterized by critical environmental conditions. Histology remains the most common method in detecting fish affected by mycobacteriosis, and PCR-based methods are essential for species identification. Our finding are worthy of attention because mycobacteriosis caused by M. marinum in reared mullets was evidenced for the first time in Sardinia, suggesting that this disease may be underestimated also in other cultured fish species.

Abstract
A 9-month-old, captive-bred, female tawny eagle (Aquila rapax) presented with a nonpainful, firm, nodular structure attached to the digital extensor tendon. The mass was surgically resected without complications and was submitted for histopathologic examination. Grossly, cut surfaces of the lesion had chalky-white deposits. Histologically, the resected tissue was identified as calcinosis circumscripta. No recurrence was observed in follow-up after 6 and 12 months. To our knowledge, this is the first case of calcinosis circumscripta in a bird involving a limb extremity, similar to the presentation recognized more commonly in domestic animals. Calcinosis circumscripta should be included in the differential diagnosis list for nodular masses attached to the tendons in birds.

Abstract
Mycobacterial infections remain a public health problem. Historically important, globally ubiquitous and with a wide host range, we are still struggling to control mycobacterial infections in humans and animals. While previous reviews have focused on individual mycobacterial infections in either humans or animals, a comprehensive review of the zoonotic aspect of mycobacteria in the context of the One Health initiative is lacking. With the purpose of providing a concise and comprehensive resource, we have collated literature to address the zoonotic potential of different mycobacterial species and elaborate on the necessity for an inter-sectorial approach to attain a new vision to combat mycobacterial infections.

Abstract
Ornamental fish represent the largest and most diverse group of exotic animals kept as pets. The specific oral anatomy of each family or selected species has evolved to suit the natural environment, feeding behaviors, food or prey type, and location of the food/prey in the water column. The anatomy can change over the life of the animal, from fry to adult. The oral cavity of fish is susceptible to many problems including infectious and parasitic diseases, trauma, and neoplasia. Diagnosis may involve wet mount preparations of exfoliative cytology from the lesion, histopathology, and bacterial or fungal culture.
