Abstract
This study aimed to develop and validate a nomogram model that includes clinical and laboratory indicators to predict the risk of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in young Chinese individuals. This study retrospectively analyzed a cohort of young population who underwent health examination from November 2018 to December 2021 at The Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University in Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, China. We extracted the clinical and laboratory data of 43,040 subjects and randomized participants into the training and validation groups (7:3). Univariate logistic regression analysis, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression, and multivariate logistic regression models identified significant variables independently associated with MAFLD. The predictive accuracy of the model was analyzed in the training and validation sets using area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC), calibration curves, and decision curve analysis. In this study, we identified nine predictors from 31 variables, including age, gender, body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio, alanine aminotransferase, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, uric acid, and smoking. The AUROC for the subjects in the training and validation groups was 0.874 and 0.875, respectively. The calibration curves show excellent accuracy of the nomogram. This nomogram which was based on demographic characteristics, lifestyle habits, anthropometrics, and laboratory data can visually and individually predict the risk of developing MAFLD. This nomogram is a quick and effective screening tool for assessing the risk of MAFLD in younger populations and identifying individuals at high risk of MAFLD, thereby contributing to the improvement of MAFLD management.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the prevalence and influencing factors of isolated diastolic hypertension (IDH) in the Tibetan population in Tibet and to provide some evidence for the prevention and control of hypertension and other related diseases in high-altitude areas. Methods A multistage stratified whole-group random sampling method was used to enroll participants from Ngari Prefecture, Nagqu City, Shannan City, and Lhasa City, Tibet. A total of 3918 native Tibetans with complete data were enrolled in the survey between June 2020 and August 2023. The participants were aged from 18 to 80. The demographic data, life habits, and chronic disease prevalence of the participants were collected. Fasting venous blood samples were collected to perform the routine blood tests and blood biochemistry tests. The prevalence of IDH in subgroups with different characteristics was analyzed and the influencing factors were analyzed by multivariate logistic regression, accordingly. The predictive value of influencing factors on the prevalence of IDH was analyzed by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and the findings were compared with those of the previous prediction models for IDH. Results The prevalence of hypertension in the participants was 33.7% (n=1321), among which, 395 had IDH, accounting for 29.9% of the hypertensive patients. The results of multivariate regression showed that age, heart rate, body mass index, waist circumference, hemoglobin, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were associated with risks of developing IDH (P<0.05). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) was 0.71, which indicated improved accuracy for predicting the risks for IDH in comparison with previous predictive models for IDH. Among the influencing factors, BMI showed the best predictive value for IDH risks. Conclusion The prevalence of IDH is high among Tibetans in Tibet, suggesting the necessity for rational allocation of health resources in accordance. Compared with the previous IDH prediction models, the model proposed in this study is more suited for the Tibetan population. Targeted interventions should be carried out for the high-risk populations, such as young and middle-aged adults and populations suffering from overweight/obesity, central obesity, high-altitude polycythemia, and dyslipidemia, so as to effectively control the occurrence and development of IDH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Normal weight central obesity (NWCO) is a category of obesity that is characterized by having a normal BMI and presence of abdominal obesity. Recently, studies have reported that NWCO was associated with the cardiovascular diseases. The researches exploring the relationship between NWCO and arterial stiffness are limited. So this study intended to investigate the relationship between NWCO and arterial stiffness in Chinese adults with hypertension. METHODS AND RESULTS This study is a sub-study of the China H-type Hypertension Registry Study. We included 8580 Chinese hypertensive patients with normal weight (18.5 kg/m2 ≤BMI <24 kg/m2). Central obesity was defined as waist-height ratio ≥0.5, and participants were categorized into two groups: NWCO and normal weight and no central obesity (NWNO). Using the brachial-ankle pulse wave conduction velocity (baPWV) assessed the arterial stiffness. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to evaluate relationship between NWCO and baPWV. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate relationship between NWCO and arterial stiffness. Of 8580 participants, 4327 (50.4 %) were NWCO. The multiple linear regression analysis demonstrated that people with NWCO had higher baPWV value (total people: β = 38.33, 95%CI 22.82-53.84; men: β = 39.87, 95%CI 18.43-61.32; women: β = 29.65, 95%CI 7.20-52.09) compared with NWNO. The baPWV ≥1800 cm/s was defined as arterial stiffness, and the multiple logistic regression analysis showed that people with NWCO associated higher arterial stiffness risk (total people: OR = 1.25, 95%CI 1.12-1.39; men: OR = 1.29, 95%CI 1.11-1.50; women: OR = 1.18, 95%CI 1.01-1.38). CONCLUSION NWCO is significantly related to increased risk of arterial stiffness in Chinese adults with hypertension.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine the association between body mass index (BMI) and abdominal obesity with hypertension among the South Asian adults (18-69 years). METHODS This study utilized the nationally representative WHO STEPwise approach to surveillance data (n = 24,413) from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Hypertension was defined as having a systolic blood pressure of 140 mmHg or higher, a diastolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg or higher, and/or taking antihypertensive medications. A waist circumference ≥ 90 cm in men and ≥ 80 cm in women was considered as abdominal obesity. BMI was categorized according to Asia-specific cutoff and overweight was defined as BMI of 23.0-27.5 kg/m2 and obesity was defined as BMI ≥ 27.5 kg/m2. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify the association between BMI and abdominal obesity with hypertension. The odds ratio (OR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) was reported. RESULTS Abdominal obesity increased the odds of hypertension 31%-105% compared to those who did not have abdominal obesity (OR: Afghanistan: 2.05; 95% CI: 1.27-3.31; Bangladesh: 1.55; 95% CI: 1.18-2.04; Bhutan: 1.31; 95% CI: 1.03-1.66; Nepal: 1.69; 95% CI: 1.31-2.18; Sri Lanka:1.55; 95% CI: 1.23-1.95). The odds increased among participants with both overweight/obesity and abdominal obesity. In all five countries under study, participants with both overweight and abdominal obesity (OR: Afghanistan: 2.75; 95% CI: 1.75-4.34; Bangladesh: 2.53; 95% CI: 1.90-3.37; Bhutan: 2.22; 95% CI: 1.64-3.00; Nepal: 2.08; 95% CI: 1.54-2.81; Sri Lanka: 2.29; 95% CI: 1.77-2.98), as well as those with obesity and abdominal obesity (OR: Afghanistan: 6.94; 95% CI: 4.68-10.30; Bangladesh: 2.95; 95% CI: 2.19-3.97; Bhutan: 3.02; 95% CI: 2.23-4.09; Nepal: 4.40; 95% CI: 3.05-6.34; Sri Lanka: 3.96; 95% CI: 2.94-5.32), exhibited higher odds of having hypertension as compared to participants with a normal BMI and no abdominal obesity. CONCLUSION Having both abdominal obesity and overweight/obesity increased the odds of hypertension among South Asian adults. Preventing overweight/obesity and abdominal obesity is necessary for preventing the burden of hypertension in South Asia.

Abstract
Triglyceride glucose index (TyG) and waist circumstance have been well documented to be highly correlated with hypertension. However, the joint effect of waist circumstance and TyG on the risk of hypertension is unknown in middle-aged and elderly Chinese adults. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between TyG and the risk of new-onset hypertension in middle-aged and elderly Chinese individuals with different waist circumstances. The multicentred prospective cohort study was conducted in 28 provinces of China including a total of 5865 eligible participants aged ≥ 45 years old. Cox regression was performed to examine the relationship of TyG index and hypertension with adjustments for the pertinent variables. Besides, the relationship was explored in different groups on the basis of waist circumstance. There was no significant correlation between TyG index and new-onset hypertension after adjustment for pertinent variables (hazards ratio [HR]: 0.99; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.80-1.24). When the association was explored in different waist circumstance groups, multivariate cox regression analyses revealed that TyG was an independent factor positively associated with the risk of hypertension in central obesity prophase group (HR: 1.57; 95% CI 1.13-2.16). Among individuals with central obesity, relative to population with lower TyG (Q1: 4.96-8.18), people who had higher TyG (Q3: 8.52-8.95; Q4: 8.95-12.14) were associated with significantly lower HR for hypertension. There was no conspicuous correlation between TyG index with new-onset hypertension in normal waist circumstance (HR: 1.05; 95% CI 0.84-1.30). The research demonstrated the positive relationship of TyG with risk of hypertension among individuals with central obesity prophase, negative relationship of TyG with hypertension among population with central obesity and inconspicuous correlation of TyG with hypertension among individuals with normal waist. In conclusion, the study findings supported the combined effects of TyG index and waist circumference in predicting hypertension in middle-aged and elderly Chinese individuals.

Abstract
As a major cause of various cardiovascular diseases, the prevalence of hypertension has been increasing in the past 30 years, leading to significant socioeconomic and health burdens. Obesity is one of the major risk factors for hypertension. Body mass index (BMI) is the most used anthropometric index to measure obesity in clinical practice and to assess the risk of obesity-related diseases. However, obesity is a heterogeneous disease, and the accumulation of fat in different body regions leads to differences in cardiovascular and metabolic risks. BMI only reflects the overall obesity but does not consider the distribution of fat and muscle mass. The limitation of BMI makes it insufficient to assess the risk of hypertension attributed to obesity. In addition, waist circumference is an easily obtainable anthropometric index to evaluate abdominal fat distribution. High waist circumference is an independent risk factor for various cardiovascular diseases and all-cause mortality regardless of BMI. Preliminary data indicate that waist circumference is significantly associated with the risk of hypertension at different BMI levels. However, routine measurement of waist circumference is currently not required in current clinical guidelines or is only recommended for obese populations, indicating an insufficient understanding of waist circumference. In this review, we summarize the measurement methods and diagnostic thresholds of waist circumference for abdominal obesity, the trend of central obesity prevalence, the superiority of waist circumference over other anthropometric indices, and recent cross-sectional and longitudinal studies on the association between obesity and hypertension.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM The current public health guidelines for preventing and managing obesity still emphasize the importance of maintaining a normal Body Mass Index, while paying little attention to central obesity, which is common among the general population. Normal Weight Central Obesity (NWCO) is a less explored risk factor for hypertension in India. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the prevalence of NWCO and its association with hypertension in India. METHODS AND RESULTS The cross-sectional study used data from the Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI), 2017-19, which included 54,016 participants (22,438 men and 31,578 women). Hypertension was evaluated following the JNC-VIII guidelines for the detection, evaluation, and treatment of hypertension. Anthropometric measurements were taken to identify NWCO. The study found that NWCO was more prevalent among women (33.9%) than men (17.8%), while men had a higher prevalence of hypertension (47.6%) than women (43.8%). In India, the state of Haryana had the highest proportion of NWCO among men (26.4%), while Kerala had the highest proportion among women (39.1%). Binary logistic regression analysis showed that NWCO was significantly associated with an increased risk of hypertension. The odds ratio (aOR) was 1.57 (95% CI 1.45-1.67, p < 0.001) in men and 1.53 (95% CI 1.43-1.63, p < 0.001) in women, compared to normal-weight study participants. CONCLUSIONS The study emphasizes the importance of considering central obesity in individuals with a normal BMI when assessing cardiovascular risk, particularly for hypertension. Abstract
Chronic high-fat diet intake may induce obesity and increase the risk of metabolic syndrome. The pomace of grape (Vitis vinifera L.) is rich in polyphenols, which are candidates for anti-obesity therapy. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of Dunkelfelder grape seed extract (GSE) and grape peel extract (GPE) on lipid and energy metabolism disorders in mice maintained on a high-fat diet (HFD). Male nine-week C57BL/6J mice were randomly assigned to one of four groups, namely, the normal chow diet (ND), HFD, HFD plus GSE (400 mg/kg BW) administered by oral gavage, or HFD plus GPE (400 mg/kg BW) administered by oral gavage. There were eight mice per group, and the experiment was 14 weeks in duration. The results showed that GSE and GPE treatments did not affect energy intake in mice on a high-fat diet, but body weight gain was 24.5% and 17.3% lower in the GSE- and GPE-treated mice than in the HFD group, respectively. They also decreased blood triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and fasting blood glucose levels and increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). In addition, GSE and GPE reduced adipose tissue weight and excessive lipid droplet accumulation in the adipocytes. The metabolic chamber test showed that the GSE and GPE treatments enhanced oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide production, and heat release while decreasing the respiratory exchange rate (RER). This suggests that GSE and GPE augmented fuel oxidation and energy generation and increased the proportion of lipids being utilized in energy metabolism. GSE and GPE also upregulated the genes controlling lipolysis and downregulated those controlling lipogenesis in adipose tissues. Moreover, they significantly increased the expression levels of the genes regulating thermogenesis in BAT, eWAT, and iWAT, and mitochondrial biogenesis in all three types of adipose tissue. In conclusion, the present study empirically demonstrated that GSE and GPE enhance body fat utilization by augmenting lipid and energy metabolism and could, therefore, ameliorate high-fat diet-induced obesity.
