Abstract
PURPOSE To examine the relative importance of social cognitive predictors (ie, performance accomplishment, vicarious learning, verbal persuasion, affective state) on health promotion self-efficacy among older adults during COVID-19. DESIGN Cross-sectional. SETTING Data collected online from participants in British Columbia (BC), Canada. SUBJECTS Seventy-five adults (n = 75) aged ≥65 years. MEASURES Health promotion self-efficacy was measured using the Self-Rated Abilities for Health Practices Scale. Performance accomplishment was assessed using the health directed behavior subscale of the Health Education Impact Questionnaire; vicarious learning was measured using the positive social interaction subscale of the Medical Outcomes Survey - Social Support Scale (MOS-SSS); verbal persuasion was assessed using the informational support subscale from the MOS-SSS; and affective state was assessed using the depression subscale from the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21). ANALYSIS Multiple linear regression was used to investigate the relative importance of each social cognitive predictor on self-efficacy, after controlling for age. RESULTS Our analyses revealed statistically significant associations between self-efficacy and performance accomplishment (health-directed behavior; β = .20), verbal persuasion (informational support; β = .41), and affective state (depressive symptoms; β = -.44) at P < .05. Vicarious learning (β = -.15) did not significantly predict self-efficacy. The model was statistically significant (P < .001) explaining 43% of the self-efficacy variance. CONCLUSION Performance accomplishment experiences, verbal persuasion strategies, and affective states may be the target of interventions to modify health promotion self-efficacy among older adults, in environments that require physical and social distancing.

Abstract
Sleep disturbances are highly prevalent during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially among older adults. We aimed to evaluate sleep heath during COVID-19 pandemic and assess the differences among geographical regions and pandemic periods. We searched three databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science) to find articles up to March 12, 2023. We included observational studies that reported the prevalence of sleep disturbances among adults aged 60 years or older in any setting. Two researchers independently reviewed the literature and retrieved the data. We used Der Simonian-Laird random effects meta-analyses to pool the data, followed by subgroup analysis, sensitivity analysis, and meta-regression. A total of 64 studies with 181,224 older adults during the pandemic were included. The prevalence of poor sleep quality, short sleep duration, long sleep duration, and insomnia symptoms were 47.12% (95% CI: 25.97%, 68.27%), 40.81% (95% CI: 18.49%, 63.12%), 31.61% (95% CI: 24.83%, 38.38%), and 21.15% (95% CI: 15.30%, 27.00%), respectively. The prevalence of sleep problems reported by self-constructed items was 26.97% (95% CI: 20.73%, 33.22%). When compared to America (64.13%), Europe (20.23%) and the Western Pacific (21.31%) showed a lower prevalence of sleep problems (all P < 0.0001). The prevalence of worsened sleep problems was 27.88% (95% CI: 11.94%, 43.82%). Compared to 2020 (15.14%), it increased to 47.42% in 2021 (P < 0.05). Eight studies on sleep disturbances among 672 older COVID-19 patients were included. The prevalence of sleep problems and insomnia symptoms among older COVID-19 patients were 41.58% (95% CI: 21.97%, 61.20%) and 41.56% (95% CI: 28.11%, 58.02%), respectively. A significant burden related to poor sleep has been observed among older adults worldwide over the past three years, with variations across different regions and time periods. It is important to make more efforts in prevention and intervention to identify the risk factors, treatment, and rehabilitation of sleep disturbances for healthy aging.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic caused occupational disruption and adverse health outcomes in community-dwelling older adults. This study aimed to investigate the extent of occupational disruption in older adults and its relationship to health-related quality of life (QOL), depression, and frailty. In this cross-sectional study, retention rates in four activity domains and relationships with health outcomes were examined in Japanese older adults aged ≥65 years (n=163) using canonical correlation analysis (CCA) and mixed linear models. More than 25% of activities were restricted compared with the pre-pandemic period. CCA demonstrated correlations between four retention rates and health outcomes (canonical correlation = .42, p = .0003). Retention in instrumental and social activities independently predicted QOL and depression (p < .05). This study highlights that different activities may have different effects on health outcomes and can provide community occupational therapy practitioners with a perspective to assess occupational disruption and identify activities for intervention.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic and prolonged quarantine affect the health behaviors of older adults. We investigated the changes in older adults' lifestyles during the pandemic in a sample of 1020 people aged 60 years old and over in Tehran. The results revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic had a positive impact on nutritional behaviors and social support while having a negative impact on physical activity and anxiety in older adults. Due to the greater deterioration of health behaviors among unmarried older adults, low socio-economic status, and COVID-19 inpatients, policymakers must pay attention to interventions to promote healthy lifestyles.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The current study examines the negative impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) emergency declarations on physical activity among the community-dwelling older adults, the participants of a physical activity measurement program, in Japan. METHODS This retrospective observational study included 1,773 community-dwelling older adults (aged 74.6 ± 6.3 years, 53.9% women) who had participated in the physical activity measurement project from February 2020 to July 2021. We measured physical activity using a tri-axial accelerometer during 547 consecutive days. Three emergency declarations, requesting people to avoid going outside, occurred during the observational period. We multiply-imputed missing values for daily physical activity, such as steps, light physical activity (LPA), and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) for several patterns of datasets according to the maximum missing rates on a person level. We mainly report the results based on less than 50% of the maximum missing rate (n = 1,056). Other results are reported in the supplemental file. Changes in physical activity before and after the start of each emergency declaration were examined by the regression discontinuity design (RDD) within 14-, 28-, and 56-day bandwidths. RESULTS For all the participants in the multiply-imputed data with the 14-day bandwidth, steps (coefficients [[Formula: see text]][Formula: see text] 964.3 steps), LPA ([Formula: see text] 5.5 min), and MVPA ([Formula: see text] 4.9 min) increased after the first emergency declaration. However, the effects were attenuated as the RDD bandwidths were widened. No consistent negative impact was observed after the second and third declarations. After the second declaration, steps ([Formula: see text]-609.7 steps), LPA ([Formula: see text]-4.6 min), and MVPA ([Formula: see text]-2.8 min) decreased with the 14-day bandwidth. On the other hand, steps ([Formula: see text] 143.8 steps) and MVPA ([Formula: see text] 1.3 min) increased with the 56-day bandwidth. For the third declaration, LPA consistently decreased with all the bandwidths ([Formula: see text]-2.1, -3.0, -0.8 min for the 14, 28, 56-day bandwidth), whereas steps ([Formula: see text]-529 steps) and MVPA ([Formula: see text]-2.6 min) decreased only with the 28-day bandwidth. CONCLUSIONS For the community-dwelling older adults who regularly self-monitor their physical activity, the current study concludes that there is no evidence of consistently negative impacts of the emergency declarations by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Impact of COVID-19 on the Surrounding Environment of Nursing Home Residents and Attitudes towards Infection Control and Oral Health Care among Nursing Home Staff in Japan. Abstract
The environments of nursing home staff and residents have dramatically changed since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, with greater demand for infection control. This study aimed to clarify the changes and regional differences in the surrounding environment of nursing home residents as well as the working environment of staff, including oral health care, after the spread of SARS-CoV-2. A self-administered questionnaire survey was sent to nursing staff at about 40 nursing homes in different areas of Japan in September and October 2021. The questionnaire consisted of items centered around: (1) the surrounding environment of nursing home residents, (2) awareness and attitudes towards daily work among staff, and (3) attitudes to and procedures for oral health care among staff. A total of 929 respondents included 618 (66.5%) nursing care workers and 134 (14.4%) nurses. Regarding changes in resident daily life, 60% of staff perceived decreases in psychosocial and physical function after the start of the pandemic due to limited family communication and recreational activities, especially in urban areas. Concerning infection control, most respondents adopted routines of disinfecting hands before and after their duties. Oral health care was part of the regular duties of over 80% of respondents. Many participants answered that the frequency and time of oral health care only slightly changed after the onset of COVID-19, but many also reported disinfecting hands both before and after oral health care, particularly in rural areas. Our findings suggested that the COVID-19 pandemic decreased the daily living activities of residents, leading to psychosocial and physical decline, especially in urban areas. The results also indicated that the spread of SARS-CoV-2 triggered improvements in the awareness and attitudes towards infection control in daily work, including oral health care, among nursing care staff, notably in rural areas. Such an effect may contribute to a more positive perception of oral health care infection measures after the pandemic.
