Abstract
AIMS The use of non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is conventional in management of postoperative pain in cancer patients, and further investigations have reported that some of these drugs correlated with the outcome in cancers. However, the prognostic value of the use of NSAIDs during surgery in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients has been less addressed. METHODS NSCLC patients staged I-III are retrospectively enrolled, and the data of the use of NSAIDs during surgery are collected. Patients are divided into two subgroups according to the use intensity (UI) (low or high) of the NSAIDs, which was calculated by the accumulate dosage of all the NSAIDs divided by the length of hospitalization. The differences of the clinical features among these groups were checked. And the disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) differences in these groups were compared by Kaplan-Meier analysis; risk factors for survival were validated by using a Cox proportional hazards model. RESULTS The UI was significant in predicting the DFS (AUC = 0.65, 95% CI: 0.57-0.73, P = 0.001) and OS (AUC = 0.70, 95% CI: 0.59-0.81, P = 0.001). Clinical features including type of resection (P = 0.001), N stages (P < 0.001), and TNM stages (P = 0.004) were significantly different in UI low (< 74.55 mg/day) or high (≥ 74.55 mg/day) subgroups. Patients in UI-high subgroups displayed significant superior DFS (log rank = 11.46, P = 0.001) and OS (log rank = 7.63, P = 0.006) than the UI-low ones. At last, the UI was found to be an independent risk factor for DFS (HR: 0.52, 95% CI: 0.28-0.95, P = 0.034). CONCLUSIONS The use of NSAIDs during radical resection in NSCLC patients correlated with the outcome and patients with a relative high UI has better outcome.

Abstract
Inflammatory processes are essential for innate immunity and contribute to carcinogenesis in various malignancies, such as colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer and lung cancer. Pharmacotherapies targeting inflammation have the potential to reduce the risk of carcinogenesis and improve therapeutic efficacy of existing anti-cancer treatment. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), comprising a variety of structurally different chemicals that can inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes and other COX-independent pathways, are originally used to treat inflammatory diseases, but their preventive and therapeutic potential for cancers have also attracted researchers' attention. Pharmacogenomic variability, including distinct genetic characteristics among different patients, can significantly affect pharmacokinetics and effectiveness of NSAIDs, which might determine the preventive or therapeutic success for cancer patients. Hence, a more comprehensive understanding in pharmacogenomic characteristics of NSAIDs and cancer-related inflammation would provide new insights into this appealing strategy. In this review, the up-to-date advances in clinical and experimental researches targeting cancer-related inflammation with NSAIDs are presented, and the potential of pharmacogenomics are discussed as well.

Abstract
Inflammation is a cancer hallmark. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) improve overall survival (OS) in certain cancers. Real-world studies explored here if NSAIDs improve non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) OS. Analyses independently interrogated clinical databases from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC cohort, 1987 to 2015; 33,162 NSCLCs and 3,033 NSAID users) and Georgetown-MedStar health system (Georgetown cohort, 2000 to 2019; 4,497 NSCLCs and 1,993 NSAID users). Structured and unstructured clinical data were extracted from electronic health records (EHRs) using natural language processing (NLP). Associations were made between NSAID use and NSCLC prognostic features (tobacco use, gender, race, and body mass index, BMI). NSAIDs were statistically-significantly (P < 0.0001) associated with increased NSCLC survival (5-year OS 29.7% for NSAID users versus 13.1% for non-users) in the MDACC cohort. NSAID users gained 11.6 months over nonusers in 5-year restricted mean survival time. Stratified analysis by stage, histopathology and multicovariable assessment substantiated benefits. NSAID users were pooled independent of NSAID type and by NSAID type. Landmark analysis excluded immortal time bias. Survival improvements (P < 0.0001) were confirmed in the Georgetown cohort. Thus, real-world NSAID usage was independently associated with increased NSCLC survival in the MDACC and Georgetown cohorts. Findings were confirmed by landmark analyses and NSAID type. The OS benefits persisted despite tobacco use and did not depend on gender, race, or BMI (MDACC cohort, P < 0.0001). These real-world findings could guide future NSAID lung cancer randomized trials.

Abstract
Background Studies have indicated that individuals taking aspirin have a reduced risk of cancers and have also established chemo-preventive benefit of aspirin in colorectal cancer. However, research on the association between aspirin use and the survival in patients with lung cancer has revealed inconsistent results. In this study, we investigated the effect of aspirin use on the survival of inoperable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Methods We identified a cohort of 38,842 patients diagnosed with NSCLC between 2000 and 2012 using the Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research Database and used propensity score matching to reduce possible confounding factors. In total, 9864 patients (4932 matched pairs) were included in the matched cohort. Aspirin exposure was analyzed to identify a possible association with mortality in patients with inoperable NSCLC. Time-dependent Cox regression models were used to calculate the hazard ratios (HRs) and the 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) that corresponded with aspirin exposure. Results A total of 4979 patients used aspirin at the time of diagnosis of NSCLC. The median overall survival (OS) of the aspirin users was 1.73 (interquartile range, 0.94–3.53) years compared with the 1.30 (interquartile range, 0.69–2.62) years of the non-aspirin users. The Cox proportional hazard model with the time-dependent covariate revealed that aspirin use was associated with a significantly longer OS (HR: 0.83, 95.0% CI: 0.80–0.86). After controlling the sociodemographic characteristics (age, sex, income, and level of urbanization) and lung cancer treatments by propensity score matching, the aspirin users still had a significantly longer OS than the non-aspirin users (HR: 0.79, 95.0% CI: 0.75–0.83). Conclusion Aspirin use is associated with a longer OS in patients with inoperable NSCLC, suggesting that aspirin has a potential anticancer effect. These results warrant further randomized clinical trials to evaluate the actual role of aspirin in the treatment of NSCLC patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Considering the increased risk of bleeding caused by aspirin, and the observed benefit in all-cause mortality may be due to an improvement in cardiovascular-related mortality. We carried out this meta-analysis to estimate the association of low-dose aspirin use and risk of cancer-specific mortality. METHODS We searched the PubMed and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases for all articles within a range of published years from 1980 to 2018. RESULTS Finally, 13 published cohort studies with 65 768 patients were available for estimating overall risk of cancer-specific mortality associating with post-diagnosis low-dose aspirin use, and 4 cohort studies were available for pre-diagnosis low-dose aspirin use with 16 654 patients. Overall, statistical evidence of significantly decreased cancer-specific mortality was found to be associated with post-diagnosis low-dose aspirin use (OR = 0.84, 95% CI = 0.75-0.93), but not with pre-diagnosis low-dose aspirin use. In terms of subgroup analyses by cancer type, post-diagnosis low-dose aspirin use was significantly with decreased cancer-specific mortality for digestive tract cancer including colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer and gastric cancer. CONCLUSION Our meta-analysis indicated that post-diagnosis but not pre-diagnosis low-dose aspirin use may reduce cancer-specific mortality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the accumulation of research papers on aspirin and cancer, there is doubt as to whether or not aspirin is an acceptable and effective adjunct treatment of cancer. The results of several randomised trials are awaited, and these should give clear evidence on three common cancers: colon, breast and prostate. The biological effects of aspirin appear likely however to be of relevance to cancer generally, and to metastatic spread, rather than just to one or a few cancers, and there is already a lot of evidence, mainly from observational studies, on the association between aspirin and survival in a wide range of cancers. AIMS In order to test the hypothesis that aspirin taking is associated with an increase in the survival of patients with cancer, we conducted a series of systematic literature searches to identify clinical studies of patients with cancer, some of whom took aspirin after having received a diagnosis of cancer. RESULTS Three literature searches identified 118 published observational studies in patients with 18 different cancers. Eighty-one studies report on aspirin and cancer mortality and 63 studies report on all-cause mortality. Within a total of about a quarter of a million patients with cancer who reported taking aspirin, representing 20%-25% of the total cohort, we found aspirin to be associated with a reduction of about 20% in cancer deaths (pooled hazard ratio (HR): 0.79; 95% confidence intervals: 0.73, 0.84 in 70 reports and a pooled odds ratio (OR): 0.67; 0.45, 1.00 in 11 reports) with similar reductions in all-cause mortality (HR: 0.80; 0.74, 0.86 in 56 studies and OR: 0.57; 0.36, 0.89 in seven studies). The relative safety of aspirin taking was examined in the studies and the corresponding author of every paper was written to asking for additional information on bleeding. As expected, the frequency of bleeding increased in the patients taking aspirin, but fatal bleeding was rare and no author reported a significant excess in fatal bleeds associated with aspirin. No author mentioned cerebral bleeding in the patients they had followed. CONCLUSIONS There is a considerable body of evidence suggestive of about a 20% reduction in mortality in patients with cancer who take aspirin, and the benefit appears not to be restricted to one or a few cancers. Aspirin, therefore, appears to deserve serious consideration as an adjuvant treatment of cancer, and patients with cancer, and their carers, have a right to be informed of the available evidence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE p53, an anti-tumour protein, is significantly inactivated in most tumours. A small molecule of nutlin-3a is used to activate its function by repressing (Mouse double minute 2 homolog) Mdm2 protein which inhibits its activity. In cancer patients, a high risk of drug-drug interactions (DDIs) is observed owing to their multi-dosing prescriptions, which may lead them to harmful effects. In the presented work, we have aimed to investigate the effect of pharmacodynamical interaction between two anti-cancer drugs, nutlin-3a and aspirin in the activation of p53 protein. METHODS We have adapted control system techniques and designed a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller. This controller is used to activate p53 protein. A drug interaction parameter is used to incorporate the effect of both drugs. Extensive simulation is performed using two different doses of aspirin, i.e. a low and a high dose of aspirin. RESULTS The result shows no harmful effects of pharmacodynamical interaction when a low dose is administered along with nutlin-3a. When a high dose of aspirin is administered it acts as input disturbance and leads to undesirable over-expression of p53 protein. This can further harm other growth cells, thus inducing harmful effects. A comparative analysis is also tabulated with different dosing regimens which shows that a combination of nutlin-3a and a low dose of aspirin provides better results than a high dose of aspirin. CONCLUSION Overall, the work provides an insight to the activation of p53 protein in cancer patients under the presence of pharmacodynamical interaction and might contribute to the effective management of cancer patients.

Abstract
This work aims to study the construction of reverse aspirin-loaded micelles prepared from amphiphilic PEG-PLA-SA triblock copolymers and the optimization of the preparation process. Using polyethylene glycol (PEG) as the initiator, ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide (L-LA) was used to prepare PEG-PLA diblock copolymers. Final product PEG-PLA-SA triblock copolymers were prepared by the reaction of stearic acid (SA) and PEG-PLA catalyzed by 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) and N,N'-Dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC). Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR) was used to characterize the product structure. PEG-PLA-SA triblock copolymers self-assembled in toluene/ethanol/water system to form reverse micelles, which could encapsulate aspirin into a hydrophilic core. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to determine the size and morphology of reverse micelles. The results showed that the reverse micelles are spherical, with a particle size of less than 70 nm. Response surface analysis method was applied to optimize the preparation process of PEG-PLA-SA. In vitro drug release was achieved by embedding reverse aspirin-loaded micelles in the biocompatible membrane in phosphate buffer saline (PBS) at 37°C. In the first 8 h, the drug release rate of the triblock copolymers was slower than that of the diblock copolymers. After 8 h, the drug release rate of both tended to be flat. The stability of aspirin-loaded reverse micelles was studied through accelerated test. These results indicate that reverse micelle PEG-PLA-SA may be a promising carrier for hydrophilic drugs like aspirin.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) especially aspirin has been gained increasing attention due to its potential therapy against to lung cancer. Previous investigations have showed different findings in this issue. We studied the safety profile and efficacy of NSAIDs in treating lung cancer. METHOD Embase, Pubmed, and Cochrane Library databases were searched from January 2011 to February 2019. We identified the studies meeting a priori inclusion criteria and it also conducted a secondary review. This meta-analysis of 5 prospective studies was launched to evaluate the effect of NSAIDs for patients with lung cancer on the hazard risk (HR). We used the Random-Effect Model to assess pooled HR and between-study heterogeneity. Application of subgroup analysis, meta-regression, as well as sensitivity analysis was to pinpoint the exact sources of the observed heterogeneity. RESULTS 5 Prospective Cohorts Studies, including 6017 patients with lung cancer were recruited in the final meta-analysis. In general, using of NSAIDs especially aspirin is not associated with mortality of lung cancer: pooled hazard ratio (HR) of 0.88 [95% confidence intervals (CI): 0.73-1.05] with low heterogeneity (Q = 6.95; I = 42.4%, P = .139). Egger (P = .665) and Begg (P = 1.000) test also showed little trial error in this meta-analysis. CONCLUSION NSAIDs did not increase the risk of mortality in patients with lung cancer.

Abstract
Lung cancer is a major global health problem, as it is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Major advances in the identification of key mutational alterations have led to the development of molecularly targeted therapies, whose efficacy has been limited by emergence of resistance mechanisms. US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved therapies targeting angiogenesis and more recently immune checkpoints have reinvigorated enthusiasm in elucidating the prognostic and pathophysiological roles of the tumour microenvironment in lung cancer. In this Review, we highlight recent advances and emerging concepts for how the tumour-reprogrammed lung microenvironment promotes both primary lung tumours and lung metastasis from extrapulmonary neoplasms by contributing to inflammation, angiogenesis, immune modulation and response to therapies. We also discuss the potential of understanding tumour microenvironmental processes to identify biomarkers of clinical utility and to develop novel targeted therapies against lung cancer.

Abstract
Background Results from previous studies indicate that use of low-dose aspirin may improve breast cancer prognosis. We evaluated aspirin use and breast cancer outcomes in relation to clinical characteristics as well as dose and duration of aspirin use. Methods We used information from the Regional Breast Cancer Quality-of-Care Registries in three Swedish regions to identify 21,414 women diagnosed with a first stage I–III breast cancer between 1 April 2006 and 31 December 2012. The cohort was further linked to nationwide registers to retrieve information about dispensing low-dose aspirin before and after breast cancer diagnosis, comorbidity and causes of death. In a separate analysis, we investigated time to breast cancer death among 621 women with stage IV disease at diagnosis. Associations were evaluated using a multivariable Cox proportional hazards model. Results Among women with stage I–III breast cancer, 2660 (12.4%) used low-dose aspirin shortly before breast cancer diagnosis and 4091 (19.1%) were users during follow-up. Women were followed for a median of 3.8 years after diagnosis. There was no association between aspirin use and breast cancer-specific death in multivariable analyses (use before diagnosis: hazard ratio (HR) 0.93, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.77–1.12; use after diagnosis: HR 1.00, 95% CI 0.74–1.37). Similarly, aspirin use was not associated with risk of first recurrence/metastases in a subgroup of stage I–III breast cancer patients (HR 0.97, 95% CI 0.86–1.10). However, in analyses stratified by stage, an inverse association between low-dose aspirin use after diagnosis and breast cancer death was found for women with stage I tumors (HR 0.53, 95% CI 0.29–0.96). Among women with stage IV disease at diagnosis, aspirin use was not associated with time to breast cancer death (HR 0.91, 95% CI 0.67–1.23). Conclusion In this large population-based cohort study there was no evidence that low-dose aspirin use before or after breast cancer diagnosis is associated with a reduced risk of adverse outcomes overall in breast cancer. However, a potential benefit was noted among women with stage I tumors, warranting further investigation. Abstract
BACKGROUND African Americans (AA) experience higher incidence and mortality of lung cancer as compared with European Americans (EA). Inflammation is associated with lung cancer, many aspects of which differ between AA and EA. We investigated whether use, frequency, and duration of the anti-inflammatory drug aspirin were associated with lung cancer risk and survival, separately among AA and EA populations. METHODS Using data from the Maryland Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) Case-Control Study (1,220 cases [404 AA and 816 EA] and 1,634 controls [1,004 EA and 630 AA]), we estimated the adjusted odds ratios (OR) and hazard ratios (HR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) of the associations between aspirin use and NSCLC risk and survival, respectively. RESULTS Any aspirin use (OR: 0.66; 95% CI, 0.49-0.89), daily use of ≥ 1 tablet (OR: 0.68; 95% CI, 0.50-0.90), and use for ≥ 3 years (OR: 0.61; 95% CI, 0.44-0.85) was associated with lower NSCLC risk only among men, even after adjustment for covariates including body mass index and global genetic ancestry. These variables were also associated with improved survival, but only among AA (HR: 0.64; 95% CI, 0.46-0.91; HR: 0.61; 95% CI, 0.42-0.90; and HR: 0.60; 95% CI, 0.39-0.92, respectively). Tylenol and other NSAIDs were either associated with elevated or no NSCLC risk. CONCLUSIONS Aspirin use is associated with lower risk of NSCLC among men and improved survival among AA. IMPACT Preventive regular aspirin use could be considered among men and AA.

Abstract
The nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent aspirin is widely used for preventing and treating cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. In addition, epidemiologic evidences reveal that aspirin may prevent a variety of human cancers, while data on the association between aspirin and some kinds of cancer are conflicting. Preclinical studies and clinical trials also reveal the therapeutic effect of aspirin on cancer. Although cyclooxygenase is a well-known target of aspirin, recent studies uncover other targets of aspirin and its metabolites, such as AMP-activated protein kinase, cyclin-dependent kinase, heparanase, and histone. Accumulating evidence demonstrate that aspirin may act in different cell types, such as epithelial cell, tumor cell, endothelial cell, platelet, and immune cell. Therefore, aspirin acts on diverse hallmarks of cancer, such as sustained tumor growth, metastasis, angiogenesis, inflammation, and immune evasion. In this review, we focus on recent progress in the use of aspirin for cancer chemoprevention and therapy, and integratively analyze the mechanisms underlying the anticancer effects of aspirin and its metabolites. We also discuss mechanisms of aspirin resistance and describe some derivatives of aspirin, which aim to overcome the adverse effects of aspirin.

Abstract
The association between coagulation and cancer development has been observed for centuries. However, the connection between inflammation and malignancy is also well-recognized. The plethora of evidence indicates that among multiple hemostasis components, platelets play major roles in cancer progression by providing surface and granular contents for several interactions as well as behaving like immune cells. Therefore, the anticancer potential of anti-platelet therapy has been intensively investigated for many years. Anti-platelet agents may prevent cancer, decrease tumor growth, and metastatic potential, as well as improve survival of cancer patients. On the other hand, there are suggestions that antiplatelet treatment may promote solid tumor development in a phenomenon described as "cancers follow bleeding." The controversies around antiplatelet agents justify insight into the subject to establish what, if any, role platelet-directed therapy has in the continuum of anticancer management.

Abstract
Aspirin not only reduces the incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) but also plays a synergistic role with chemotherapy for HCC treatment. However, the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely elucidated. Given that autophagy triggers cancer cell death, the present study examined the autophagic effect of aspirin on HCC cells. Results showed that aspirin increased LC3II/LC3I ratio, decreased p62 expression, and enhanced autophagic flux (autophagosome and autolysosome puncta) in Hep3B, HepG2, or SMMC-7721 cells, reflecting the autophagy of HCC cells. The autophagic effects of aspirin depended on Beclin-1 expression. Aspirin disrupted the interaction between Bcl-2 and Beclin-1. In addition to activating the AMP-activated protein kinase, c-Jun N-terminal kinase, and Glycogen synthase kinase-3 pathways, aspirin inhibited the mammalian-target-of rapamycin-S6K1/4E-BP1 signaling. Aspirin induced autophagy of HCC cell. This study contributes to understanding the chemoprotective and inhibitory effects of aspirin on HCC development.

Abstract
Background Aspirin has been considered to be beneficial in preventing cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Several pharmaco-epidemiology cohort studies have shown protective effects of aspirin on diseases using various statistical methods, with the Cox regression model being the most commonly used approach. However, there are some inherent limitations to the conventional Cox regression approach such as guarantee-time bias, resulting in an overestimation of the drug effect. To overcome such limitations, alternative approaches, such as the time-dependent Cox model and landmark methods have been proposed. This study aimed to compare the performance of three methods: Cox regression, time-dependent Cox model and landmark method with different landmark times in order to address the problem of guarantee-time bias. Methods Through statistical modeling and simulation studies, the performance of the above three methods were assessed in terms of type I error, bias, power, and mean squared error (MSE). In addition, the three statistical approaches were applied to a real data example from the Korean National Health Insurance Database. Effect of cumulative rosiglitazone dose on the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma was used as an example for illustration. Results In the simulated data, time-dependent Cox regression outperformed the landmark method in terms of bias and mean squared error but the type I error rates were similar. The results from real-data example showed the same patterns as the simulation findings. Conclusions While both time-dependent Cox regression model and landmark analysis are useful in resolving the problem of guarantee-time bias, time-dependent Cox regression is the most appropriate method for analyzing cumulative dose effects in pharmaco-epidemiological studies.

Abstract
Clinical and experimental data suggest that salicylic acid (SA) is tumor preventive and NO has a multitude of effects on tumor biology. Therefore, firstly, the aim of our study is to explore the important role of SA in apoptotic induction of liver cancer cells. Secondly, we investigate whether SA mediates the anti-tumor effects by NO signaling pathway. The liver cancer cell line was treated with different concentrations of SA. Cell proliferation was tested using MTS assay and cell apoptosis was assessed by flow cytometry. NO content and NOS activities were measured by biochemical assay. The anti- or pro-apoptotic regulator gene expressions were analyzed by real-time PCR. Our data illustrated that high concentration of SA significantly inhibited liver cancer cell proliferation accompanied by apoptosis induction. In addition, SA led to the release of NO and the increase of NOS activities in above process. Importantly, SA up-regulated a series of apoptosis-related gene expression and reduced the mRNA level of HMGB1. Meanwhile, we also found that NOS inhibitor L-NAME and NO scavenger cPTIO attenuated the above SA-induced effects. Thus, we provided the evidence that SA exerted anti-tumor effects in liver cancer cell in part mediated by the NO pathway.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We sought to characterise circulating and tissue tumour biomarkers of patients who developed early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) during long-term follow-up of a chemoprevention trial (NCT00321893). MATERIALS AND METHODS Blood and sputum samples were collected from 202 high-risk asymptomatic individuals with CT-detected stable lung nodules. Real-time PCR was performed on plasma to quantify free circulating DNA. Baseline serum was investigated with a previously validated test based on 13 circulating miRNAs (miR-Test). Promoter methylation status of p16, RASSF1a and RARβ2 and telomerase activity were assessed in sputum samples. DNA was extracted from each tumour developed during follow-up and subjected to a mutation survey using the LungCarta panel on the Sequenom MassARRAY platform. RESULTS During follow-up (9 years) six individuals underwent surgery for stage I NSCLC with a median time of disease onset of 20.5 months. MiR-Test scores were positive (range: 0.14-7.24) in four out of six baseline pre-disease onset sera. No association was identified between free circulating DNA or sputum biomarkers and disease onset. All tumours harboured at least one somatic mutation in well-known cancer genes, including KRAS (n = 4), BRAF (n = 1), and TP53 (n = 3). CONCLUSION Circulating miRNA tests may represent valuable tools to detect clinically-silent tumours. Early-stage lung adenocarcinomas harbour recurrent genetic events similar to those described in advanced-stage NSCLCs.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect and mechanism of different concentrations of aspirin in inhibiting the ovarian cancer of p53N236S gene knock-in mice. In total, 28 male p53S mice, with an age range of 4–6 weeks and weight of 20–25 g were selected. The animals were transplanted with SKOV3 cells to establish subdermal human ovarian cancer. The mice were randomly divided into different groups according to the aspirin concentrations (mmol/l) used, i.e., 0, 1, 2 and 3. Subsequently, intraperitoneal injection was performed once every two days for 3 weeks. The tumor volume, lifetime, tumor cell proliferation inhibition rates, caspase-3 protein and bcl-2 protein expression of the four groups were analyzed and compared. Following aspirin treatment for 1, 2 and 3 weeks, the tumor volume of the 3 mmol/l aspirin group was significantly smaller than the other groups (P<0.05). The higher concentration of aspirin led to a smaller tumor size (P<0.05). The cell proliferation inhibition rate of the 3 mmol/l aspirin group was significantly larger than that of other groups (P<0.05). The relative expression level of caspase-3, bcl-2 protein of the 3 mmol/l aspirin group was significantly improved and reduced, respectively. In conclusion, aspirin can inhibit the growth of ovarian cancer of p53S rats due to its upregulation of the expression of caspase-3 protein and downregulation of the expression of bcl-2 protein.
