Abstract
Obesity is a complex chronic metabolic disorder characterized by abnormalities in lipid metabolism. Obesity is not only associated with various chronic diseases but also has negative effects on physiological functions such as the cardiovascular, endocrine and immune systems. As a global health problem, the incidence and prevalence of obesity have increased significantly in recent years. Therefore, understanding assessment methods and measurement indicators for obesity is critical for early screening and effective disease control. Current methods for measuring obesity in adult include density calculation, anthropometric measurements, bioelectrical impedance analysis, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, computerized imaging, etc. Measurement indicators mainly include weight, hip circumference, waist circumference, neck circumference, skinfold thickness, etc. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the literature to date, summarizes and analyzes various assessment methods and measurement indicators for adult obesity, and provides insights and guidance for the innovation of obesity assessment indicators.

Abstract
Introduction Mechanical neck pain has become prevalent among computer professionals possibly because of prolonged computer use. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between neck pain intensity, anthropometric metrics, cervical range of motion, and related disabilities using advanced machine learning techniques. Method This study involved 75 computer professionals, comprising 27 men and 48 women, aged between 25 and 44 years, all of whom reported neck pain following extended computer sessions. The study utilized various tools, including the visual analog scale (VAS) for pain measurement, anthropometric tools for body metrics, a Universal Goniometer for cervical ROM, and the Neck Disability Index (NDI). For data analysis, the study employed SPSS (v16.0) for basic statistics and a suite of machine-learning algorithms to discern feature importance. The capability of the kNN algorithm is evaluated using its confusion matrix. Results The "NDI Score (%)" consistently emerged as the most significant feature across various algorithms, while metrics like age and computer usage hours varied in their rankings. Anthropometric results, such as BMI and body circumference, did not maintain consistent ranks across algorithms. The confusion matrix notably demonstrated its classification process for different VAS scores (mild, moderate, and severe). The findings indicated that 56% of the pain intensity, as measured by the VAS, could be accurately predicted by the dataset. Discussion Machine learning clarifies the system dynamics of neck pain among computer professionals and highlights the need for different algorithms to gain a comprehensive understanding. Such insights pave the way for creating tailored ergonomic solutions and health campaigns for this population.

Abstract
Introduction Background: body mass index (BMI) is commonly used to diagnose overweight and obesity, and waist circumference (WC) is used to estimate visceral fat. The measurement of WC is demanding, therefore, different studies proposed the use of neck perimeter. Objective: exploring diagnostic validity of neck perimeter to diagnose overweight and obesity in 10-12 years old children in La Paz (Bolivia). Methods: this is a cross-sectional study with a random sample of school children in El Alto (Bolivia). Weight, height, abdominal circumference and neck perimeter were measured, classifying the nutritional status with BMI-z according to the cut-off point of the World Health Organization (WHO) classification. The sample size was calculated for 95 % confidence level, an alpha level of 0.05 and 80 % power for diagnosis test design. To evaluate neck perimeter validity for diagnosing obesity, sensibility, specificity and positive and negative ratio likelihood were calculated using BMI gold standard according to age and sex. Results: a number of 371 school children between 10-12 years old were included and 34 % of them presented malnutrition by excess. Sensibility and specificity of the neck perimeter to diagnose overweight and obesity were 87.5-100 % and 75.7-86.3 %, respectively. Conclusion: neck perimeter in 10-12-year-old school children is a valid indicator for carrying out obesity diagnosis.

Abstract
Hypertension is a public health problem in South Africa. Increases in subcutaneous fat, presented by the neck circumference (NC) value, contribute to and predict the development of hypertension. However, to date, there has been no study done to investigate the relationship between the NC and blood pressure (BP) among historically disadvantaged university students. Therefore, the aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between the NC and BP among Walter Sisulu University students. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Walter Sisulu University. All 127 students were aged 18 years and above and underwent NC and clinical BP measurements using standard procedures. In a Pearson's correlation analysis, the NC positively correlated with both the systolic blood pressure (SBP) (r = 0.5; p < 0.001) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (r = 0.3; p < 0.001). Furthermore, in the multivariable-adjusted regression analysis, the NC was positively associated with both the SBP (adjusted R2 = 0.3, β = 2.0 (95% CI = 1.1; 2.9), p < 0.001) and DBP (adjusted R2 = 0.1 β = 0.950 (95% CI = 0.3; 1.6), p = 0.008) adjusted for age, gender, body mass index, waist-to-height ratio, alcohol, and smoking. The NC is related to BP among historically disadvantaged university students.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Accumulated evidence suggests that neck circumference (NC) is associated with cardiometabolic risk factors. However, limited studies are available regarding the association between NC or height normalised NC (neck-to-height ratio (NHR)) and risk of ischaemic stroke (IS) in the Chinese population. Therefore, we aimed at examining the associations between NC or NHR and odds of IS and exploring the discrepancies between men and women. DESIGN A multistage cluster cross-sectional study. SETTING A population-based study carried out in Northeast China. METHODS A cross-sectional study was undertaken in Northeast China between September 2017 and March 2019, involving 7236 men and 11 352 women, respectively. The median age of participants was 60.30 years, ranging from 40 to 97 years. The associations between NC or NHR and odds of IS were calculated using multiple logistic regression models. Dose-response relationships were depicted using restricted cubic spline functions. Reclassification analyses were carried out to determine the incremental significance of NC or NHR on the odds of IS. RESULTS In women, NC and NHR were significantly associated with the odds of IS, independent of traditional risk factors and other anthropometric parameters for obesity. The highest quartile of NC and NHR had a 1.60 (95% CI 1.16 to 2.22)-and 1.72 (95% CI 1.23 to 2.41) times higher odds of IS compared with the lowest quartile. Furthermore, the odds of IS increased by 1.10 (95% CI 1.01 to 1.20) and 1.12 (95% CI 1.02 to 1.22) times per 1 SD increase in NC and NHR, respectively. Reclassification analyses showed that the proportion of correct classification increased by 11.5% (95% CI 2.2% to 20.7%) and 22.8% (95% CI 13.5% to 32.0%) after the addition of NC or NHR into established models, respectively. However, the findings could not be replicated in men. CONCLUSION NC and NHR might be promising independent indicators for women IS. Their incremental value in the risk stratification of IS enables the individualised prevention of IS in women.

Abstract
Objective Neck circumference (NC) is a novel tool for diagnosing cardiometabolic disorders. We aimed to determine the NC cut-off for obesity and metabolic syndrome (MS) prediction in Nigeria. Methods The current study was based on data analysis of 557 staff and students of Ekiti State University/Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, who took part in a cross-sectional health screening (August-December 2018). Body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), WHpR (waist-to-hip ratio), WHtR (waist-to-height ratio), systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP, DBP) values were determined by standard protocol. Fasting glucose and lipid profile were assayed for, and MS was defined by the harmonized criteria. The predictive ability of NC to identify people with obesity and MS was determined with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results In both men and women, NC had positive correlation (P<.001) with age, weight, BMI, WC, WHpR, WHtR, SBP and DBP. In men and women, the AUC of NC for all the anthropometric indices were significant (P<.0001). In men, the NC cut-off was 37cm for WHpR, 37.5cm for both BMI and WHtR, 38.3cm for WC, and 40.0cm for MS. In women, the NC cut-off for all the anthropometric indices (except WHpR) and MS was 33cm. In men, NC was as good as other obesity indices in predicting MS (P>.05 for differences in the AUC), but was inferior to BMI, WC and WHtR in women. Conclusions NC correlates with indices of adiposity and can serve as an alternate index for obesity and MS detection in Nigerians.

Abstract
Goals: Our aim in this study was to determine if the maternal neck and waist circumference measured in the first three months of pregnancy were effective in prediction of fetal macrosomia.Material and methods In this retrospective cohort study; body mass index, neck circumference (NC) and waist circumference (WC) was measured in low risk pregnant women at 11-13+6th weeks of pregnancy.Results Among the 361 women, 8% of newborns were over 4000 grams. The rate of fetal macrosomia increased with the increased NC and WC. In ROC analysis, optimum cutoff value of NC was >36.5 cm to predict fetal macrosomia with 68.97% sensitivity and 66.97% specifity and for WC it was >88 cm with 62.07% sensitivity and 61.26% specifity.Conclusion Risk of fetal macrosomia increased with the increased maternal NC and WC.

Abstract
It is necessary to identify the relationship between neck circumference and cardiovascular risk factors in patients with hypertension.Patients with hypertension treated in our hospital were included. The height, weight, neck circumference, waist circumference, fasting blood glucose, 2 h blood glucose (2hPPG), density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) were analyzed and compared.A total of 2860 patients with hypertension were included. There were significant differences between male and female patients in the neck circumference, waist circumference, fasting blood glucose, Total cholesterol, triacylglycerol, HDL-C, LDL-C, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, dyslipidemia, drinking and smoking (all P < .05); the neck circumference was positively correlated with waist circumference, body mass index (BMI), fasting blood glucose, 2hPPG, HbA1c, triacylglycerol and LDL-C (all P < .05), and negatively correlated with HDL-C (P = .014); as the neck circumference increases, the risk of hypertension, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, abdominal obesity, and dyslipidemia increases accordingly (all P < .05); the area under curve (AUC) was 0.827 and 0.812, and the neck circumference of 37.8 and 33.9 cm was the best cut-off point for male and female patients, respectively.Neck circumference is closely related to cardiovascular risk factors in patients with hypertension, which should be promoted in the screening of cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
Neck circumference (NC) is an attractive method for determining overweight and obesity in school age children because it is inexpensive and culturally acceptable. However, this technique has not been assessed for its accuracy in school children from countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which have high prevalence of overweight and obesity.The aim of this preliminary study was to investigate the correlation between the body mass index (BMI), NC, and waist-hip ratio and demographic characteristics among 10- to 18-year-old adolescent school children in Bahrain.BMI was calculated using Center of Disease Control and Prevention Children's BMI Tool for Schools. Data was collected for a total of n = 397 adolescents from 4 different private schools with an average age of 12.91 years; 57.7% were male and 42.3% female.In this sample of adolescents, 50.1% were either overweight (21.4%) or obese (28.7%). BMI was significantly associated with waist-hip ratio (P < .01), gender (P < .05), and age (P < .01). Multiple linear regressions revealed that NC was significantly associated with age (P < .001) and less so with gender (P = .071) and BMI was significantly associated with NC (P < .01), gender (P < .01), and age (P < .05). Analysis of the receiver operating characteristic for males and females combined showed fair sensitivity and specificity (Area under the curve (AUC) = 0.707; 95% CI: 0.656, 0.758).NC is weakly correlated with BMI, and only a fair instrument for identifying overweight/obesity based on receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Therefore, NC could only be used as an adjunct screening tool for weight status in this sample.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have found that neck circumference (NC) is associated with cardiovascular disease risk factors. This study investigated the relationship between NC and the incidence of angina pectoris (AP). METHODS Altogether 4821 participants (2212 males and 2609 females) from the Sleep Heart Health Study (SHHS) with a mean age of 63.4±11.0 years were selected in this study. Anthropometric measurements, including NC, waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), and body mass index (BMI), were collected at baseline. AP was defined as the first occurrence between baseline and 2011. Linear and logistic regression analysis was used to explore the association between NC and incidences of AP. RESULTS There was a significant difference in NC between AP and controls in both male (41.1±3.1 cm vs 40.3±3.2 cm; p<0.001) and female (35.2±3.1 cm vs 34.9±2.9 cm; p=0.006). Multivariable linear regression analysis showed that NC (every cm increase) was independently associated with the incidence of AP in both male (odds ratio [OR] 1.067; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.035-1.100; p<0.001) and female (OR 1.067; 95% CI 1.035-1.101; p<0.001). CONCLUSION NC was significantly associated with the incidence of AP in both male and female. The role of NC in the incidence of AP is worthy of further investigation.

Abstract
UNLABELLED The study aimed to determine whether neck circumference is associated with bone metabolism markers among adult Arab women and found modest but significant associations with bone resorption markers, suggesting that neck circumference, a surrogate measure of upper subcutaneous fat, influences bone turnover expression among adult females. INTRODUCTION Body fat distribution is associated with decreased bone resorption and neck circumference (NC), a surrogate measure for upper body fat, has never been tested as a marker that can reflect bone turnover. This is the first study aimed to analyze the associations between NC and several bone biomarkers among adult Saudi women. METHODS This cross-sectional study included a total of 265 middle-aged Saudi women [86 non-obese (mean age 52.7 ± 8.1; mean BMI 26.9 ± 2.3) and 179 obese (mean age 50.6 ± 7.5; mean BMI 35.7 ± 4.5)] recruited from primary care centers in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Anthropometrics included BMI, NC, waist and hip circumferences, total body fat percentage (%), and blood pressure. Biochemical parameters included glucose and lipid profile which were measured routinely. Serum levels of 25(OH) D, parathyroid hormone, RANKl, sclerostin, C-terminal telopeptide of collagen I (CTX-I), Dkk1, IL1β, osteoprotegerin, osteopontin, and osteocalcin were measured using commercially available assays. RESULTS In all groups, NC was inversely associated with PTH (R = - 0.22; p < 0.05) and positively associated with osteoprotegerin (R = 0.20; p < 0.05) even after adjustments for age and BMI. Using all anthropometric indices as independent variables showed that only NC explained the variance perceived in CTX-I (p = 0.049). In the non-obese, waist-hip ratio (WHR) was significantly associated with sclerostin (R = 0.40; p < 0.05) and body fat was significantly associated with osteopontin (R = 0.42; p < 0.05). CONCLUSION NC is modestly but significantly associated with bone biomarkers, particularly the bone resorption markers, among adult Arab women. The present findings highlight the importance of NC as measure of upper body subcutaneous fat in influencing bone biomarker expression in adult females.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The mortality of atherosclerotic cerebrovascular disease is on the rise, and changes in intimal and media thickness are a leading cause of cerebral ischemia-related death. Levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC), total cholesterol (TC), and chronic stress (CS) are all recognized risk factors for atherosclerosis (AS). However, the leading independent risk factor is indistinct. This study explored the effects of chronic stress, LDLC, and TC on AS and intimal and media thickness, preliminarily explored the main risk factor of AS, and analyzed the related histocyte mechanisms for macrophages and endothelial cells. METHODS Conditions include normal, high-fat diet (HF), and HF plus CS. The correlations between intimal and media thickness and general risk factors were analyzed using χ2, Spearman's rho test, and multiple linear regression. Univariate Cox regression was used to identify potential factors that affect the non-depression time (NDT). We performed a ROC curve to determine the ability of this condition to predict the thickness. Immunohistochemistry was implemented to detect macrophagocytes and endotheliocytes. RESULTS Based on χ2 and Spearman's rho test, LDLC, TC, and CS are all related with intimal and media thickness (P < 0.05). However, in multiple linear regression, CS is still a risk factor of thickness (P < 0.05) but LDLC and TC are not. High levels of LDLC, TC, and CS were correlated with poor NDT (P < 0.05). This condition can predict the thickness sensitively. The endarterium is richest in macrophagocytes, and the arrangement of endotheliocytes is disordered and cracked under CS. CONCLUSION CS is the main independent risk factor for AS and intimal (and media) thickness, rather than LDLC or TC.
