Abstract
Text messaging is a promising family-centered intervention to promote health and prevent illness among children. Little is known about the effectiveness of texting parents of children with chronic conditions on health outcomes. The aims of this integrative review were to determine what ways texting has been used as an intervention to help family caregivers and examine the outcomes from the use of texting to help family caregivers. Applying Whittemore and Knafl's method of integrative review, 16 studies were reviewed. The majority of studies suggested that text message-based health interventions were feasible and acceptable for parents of children with chronic conditions. Of the studies that examined effectiveness of the interventions, six studies noted effectiveness, four studies noted results signifying no differences, and two studies obtained insignificant results. Although the state of the science regarding health providers' use of text messaging to support parents of children with chronic illness is in its early stage, text messaging demonstrates potential to assist parents to better manage their child's chronic disease. More research is warranted in the future to determine the effectiveness as well as best practices in text messaging.

Abstract
Importance Children with chronic medical conditions are at increased risk of severe influenza. Uptake of influenza vaccination in children and adolescents with these identified special risk medical conditions (SRMCs) is suboptimal. Objective To assess the effectiveness of Flutext-4U, a parent short message service (SMS) reminder nudge intervention, in increasing influenza immunization in children and adolescents with SRMCs. Design, Setting, and Participants This randomized clinical trial was conducted at a tertiary pediatric hospital in Adelaide, South Australia, from April 15 to September 30, 2021. Children and adolescents aged 6 months to younger than 18 years with SRMCs and a subspecialist outpatient appointment over a 5-month period during the Australian seasonal influenza vaccination season (April-August 2021) were eligible to participate. Follow-up was until September 30, 2021. Interventions Participants were randomly assigned (1:1 ratio) to control: clinician nudges (hospital vaccine availability, ease of access, and recommendation from hospital subspecialists) or SMS intervention (control conditions plus an additional SMS reminder nudge to parents), with randomization stratified by age group (<5 years, 5-14 years, or >14 to <18 years). Main Outcomes and Measures The primary outcome was influenza vaccination, as confirmed by the Australian Immunisation Register. Results A total of 600 participants (intervention group: 298 [49.7%]; mean [SD] age, 11.5 [4.6] years; 162 female participants [54.4%]; control group: 302 [50.3%]; mean [SD] age, 11.4 [4.7] years; 155 female participants [51.3%]) were included. Influenza vaccination was 38.6% (113 of 293) in the SMS intervention group compared with 26.2% (79 of 302) in the control group (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 1.79; 95% CI, 1.27-2.55; P = .001). Time to vaccine receipt was significantly lower among SMS participants (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.67; 95% CI, 1.25-2.22; P < .001). For participants randomly assigned by June 15, a significantly greater proportion receiving the SMS intervention were vaccinated during the optimal delivery period April to June 30 (SMS group: 40.0% [76 of 190] vs 25.4% [50 of 197]; aOR, 1.97; 95% CI, 1.28-3.06; P = .002). Conclusions and Relevance Results of this randomized clinical trial suggest that an additional SMS reminder nudge for parents delivered in the tertiary care hospital setting to children and adolescents with SMRCs resulted in higher influenza vaccine uptake compared with clinician nudges alone. Abstract
BACKGROUND In the United States, human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates remain low. The President's Cancer Panel suggests that effective messaging about the HPV vaccination focus on the vaccine's safety, efficacy, ability to prevent cancer, and recommendation at ages 11- to 12-years. We aimed to develop messages about HPV vaccine that include the President Cancer Panel's suggestions and were acceptable to caregivers of adolescents. METHODS From August to October 2020, we conducted one-hour, Zoom videoconference focus groups with caregivers who lived in Florida, had an 11- to 12-year-old child, and had not had any of their children receive the HPV vaccine. Focus group moderators asked caregivers to react to three videos of clinician (i.e., MD, DO, APRN, PA) recommendations and three text message reminders. Thematic analysis was conducted using the constant comparative method and led by one author with qualitative analysis expertise. Two additional authors validated findings. RESULTS Caregivers (n = 25 in six groups) were primarily non-Hispanic white (84%) and educated (64% had at least an Associate's degree). Approximately a third of caregivers had delayed (44%) or decided against a vaccine for their child (36%). Caregivers described six preferred message approaches: recognize caregivers' autonomy, balanced benefits and risks, trustworthy sources, increased feasibility of appointment scheduling, information prior to decision point, and preferred personalized information. Caregivers expressed a desire to have the follow-up doses mentioned in the introduction. CONCLUSIONS HPV vaccine messages, whether delivered by a clinician or via text message, will be more acceptable to caregivers if they approach HPV vaccination as the caregivers' decision, and include information from trusted sources to help caregivers make an informed choice.

Abstract
Limited knowledge and dissatisfaction with provider interactions are sources of hesitancy. Vaccine hesitant parents want information on both the benefits and risks of vaccination. Effective interventions require understanding the nuanced reasons for vaccine hesitancy. Potential strategies include tools to facilitate in-depth discussions with pediatricians.
Introduction The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is highly effective at preventing HPV-associated cancers in both males and females, yet vaccination rates remain sub-optimal in part due to vaccine hesitancy. This study sought to assess which strategies vaccine-hesitant parents perceive as most likely to motivate them to vaccinate their children against HPV. Methods In 2021, we recruited parents with children ages 10–17 years old who were not vaccinated against HPV and who felt unsure or hesitant about their decision to vaccinate their child. Participants were recruited through an online patient portal within a single institution. A screening survey assessed for vaccine hesitancy. Semi-structured interviews focused on HPV vaccine decision-making, motivators, and potential strategies to improve vaccination rates in hesitant parents. Audio recordings were transcribed and analyzed via a combination of deductive and inductive codes. Results and Discussion A total of twenty-two vaccine-hesitant parents were interviewed. The major themes identified were a lack of confidence in vaccine decision-making, a desire for more information, and dissatisfaction with provider encounters. Parents reported that their hesitancy was driven by concerns about safety and necessity, often based on negative anecdotal reports. Although pediatricians were the most often cited source of vaccine information, many parents were dissatisfied with the encounters they had regarding the vaccine. Parents expressed a desire for detailed information on both the benefits and risks of the vaccine, and resources that allowed them to actively participate in vaccine discussions with providers. Suggested modes of delivery for this information included in-depth pediatrician discussions, written materials provided by pediatricians, and facilitation tools, such as a list of questions to help parents prepare for pediatrician visits. Thus, strategies that empower parents to feel informed and confident in their decision to vaccinate their children could be useful in motivating vaccine-hesitant parents to vaccinate their children against HPV.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections worldwide and is a precursor to anogenital and oropharyngeal cancers. Effective prevention is available through HPV vaccination and emerging evidence demonstrates the potential to significantly impact HPV-associated disease through reductions in the incidence of genital warts, precancerous cervical lesions, and cervical cancer. Indications have also recently expanded to include the prevention of oropharyngeal cancer, an outcome that has been increasing in incidence for men and women. Yet despite demonstrated effectiveness, the potential for broader impact and well-established routine recommendations for administration to adolescents, barriers to vaccine uptake persist. The purpose of this review is to provide an update on HPV prevention in the US, including trends in disease burden, HPV vaccine effectiveness, evolving vaccine recommendations and opportunities and barriers to their implementation. RECENT FINDINGS Several studies have demonstrated that HPV vaccination has the potential to prevent most HPV-attributable cancers. Ongoing research addresses questions related to duration of protection, effectiveness in vulnerable populations, vaccine schedules and strategies to improve access and optimize uptake. SUMMARY To ensure continued impact on the prevention of HPV-associated disease and subsequent cancer, it is crucial to address gaps in vaccine uptake. A strong recommendation for all persons for whom HPV vaccines are indicated, alongside initiatives to increase awareness of HPV vaccination and address specific concerns, can improve uptake among hesitant populations. Globally, efforts to bolster immunization programs are needed to broaden access to HPV vaccination.

Abstract
Background Vaccine hesitancy (VH) and the global decline of vaccine coverage are a major global health threat, and novel approaches for increasing vaccine confidence and uptake are urgently needed. ‘Nudging’, defined as altering the environmental context in which a decision is made or a certain behaviour is enacted, has shown promising results in several health promotion strategies. We present a comprehensive synthesis of evidence regarding the value and impact of nudges to address VH. Methods We conducted a systematic review to determine if nudging can mitigate VH and improve vaccine uptake. Our search strategy used Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and non-MeSH terms to identify articles related to nudging and vaccination in nine research databases. 15 177 titles were extracted and assessed following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The final list of included articles was evaluated using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool and the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations framework. Findings Identified interventions are presented according to a framework for behaviour change, MINDSPACE. Articles (n=48) from 10 primarily high-income countries were included in the review. Nudging-based interventions identified include using reminders and recall, changing the way information is framed and delivered to an intended audience, changing the messenger delivering information, invoking social norms and emotional affect (eg, through storytelling, dramatic narratives and graphical presentations), and offering incentives or changing defaults. The most promising evidence exists for nudges that offer incentives to parents and healthcare workers, that make information more salient or that use trusted messengers to deliver information. The effectiveness of nudging interventions and the direction of the effect varies substantially by context. Evidence for some approaches is mixed, highlighting a need for further research, including how successful interventions can be adapted across settings. Conclusion Nudging-based interventions show potential to increase vaccine confidence and uptake, but further evidence is needed for the development of clear recommendations. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic increases the urgency of undertaking nudging-focused research. PROSPERO registration number CRD42020185817.
