Abstract
Background Diabetic retinopathy (DR), a sight-threatening ocular complication of diabetes mellitus, is one of the main causes of blindness in the working-age population. Dyslipidemia is a potential risk factor for the development or worsening of DR, with conflicting evidence in epidemiological studies. Fenofibrate, an antihyperlipidemic agent, has lipid-modifying and pleiotropic (non-lipid) effects that may lessen the incidence of microvascular events. Methods Relevant studies were identified through a PubMed/MEDLINE search spanning the last 20 years, using the broad term "diabetic retinopathy" and specific terms "fenofibrate" and "dyslipidemia". References cited in these studies were further examined to compile this mini-review. These pivotal investigations underwent meticulous scrutiny and synthesis, focusing on methodological approaches and clinical outcomes. Furthermore, we provided the main findings of the seminal studies in a table to enhance comprehension and comparison. Results Growing evidence indicates that fenofibrate treatment slows DR advancement owing to its possible protective effects on the blood-retinal barrier. The protective attributes of fenofibrate against DR progression and development can be broadly classified into two categories: lipid-modifying effects and non-lipid-related (pleiotropic) effects. The lipid-modifying effect is mediated through peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α activation, while the pleiotropic effects involve the reduction in serum levels of C-reactive protein, fibrinogen, and pro-inflammatory markers, and improvement in flow-mediated dilatation. In patients with DR, the lipid-modifying effects of fenofibrate primarily involve a reduction in lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 levels and the upregulation of apolipoprotein A1 levels. These changes contribute to the anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic effects of fenofibrate. Fenofibrate elicits a diverse array of pleiotropic effects, including anti-apoptotic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-angiogenic properties, along with the indirect consequences of these effects. Two randomized controlled trials-the Fenofibrate Intervention and Event Lowering in Diabetes and Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes studies-noted that fenofibrate treatment protected against DR progression, independent of serum lipid levels. Conclusions Fenofibrate, an oral antihyperlipidemic agent that is effective in decreasing DR progression, may reduce the number of patients who develop vision-threatening complications and require invasive treatment. Despite its proven protection against DR progression, fenofibrate treatment has not yet gained wide clinical acceptance in DR management. Ongoing and future clinical trials may clarify the role of fenofibrate treatment in DR management.

Abstract
Purpose To explore the relationship between vitamin D (VitD) deficiency and the apolipoprotein B/apolipoprotein A1 (apo B/A1) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. Methods This was a retrospective study that lasted 2 years and 6 months, collecting information and laboratory data from 784 patients with T2DM. Patients were divided into VitD deficiency group (n = 433) and non-VitD deficiency group (n = 351) based on VitD levels. Calculated apo B/A1 ratio, and patients were further divided into high-apo B/A1 group (n = 392) and low-apo B/A1 group (n = 392) based on the median of the apo B/A1. All data were analyzed using Prism 8.0.1 and R version 4.3.1 software. Results Apo B/A1 levels of T2DM patients combined with VitD deficiency was significantly higher than that of non-VitD deficiency patients, and the VitD levels of patients with high apo B/A1 was significantly lower than that patients with low apo B/A1 (all P<0.001). Spearman correlation analysis showed that VitD levels were negatively correlated with apo B/A1 (r=-0.238, P<0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis revealed after adjusting other factors, VitD levels were significantly negatively associated with apo B/A1 (β=-0.123, P=0.001). Binary logistic regression analysis showed apoB/A1 was an independent risk factor for VitD deficiency in T2DM patients. Restrictive cubic spline indicated a significant linear relationship between apoB/A1 and VitD deficiency (P general trend <0.0001, P nonlinear = 0.0896), after stratification of gender, the results showed that apo B/A1 was more susceptible to VitD deficiency in female patients. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed that the area under the curve, sensitivity and specificity of the apo B/A1 for VitD deficiency were 0.654, 66.3% and 59.8%, respectively. Conclusion The apo B/A1 was significantly negatively associated with VitD levels and an independent risk factor for VitD deficiency in patients with T2DM.

Abstract
Objective Our objective was to quantify the number of various bacteria that frequently cause UTI in diabetes patients as well as to gauge their susceptibility and resistance to antibiotics. Method A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Internal Medicine Ward of Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, Pakistan from June 2021 to December 2021, Patients with confirmed diabetes were included in the study; however, participants receiving antimicrobial medications for a maximum of 14 days were excluded from the study. Resistance of Escherichia coli, Candida, Pseudomonas, E. faecalis, Klebsiella, P. mirabilis and Staphylococcus was asssessed using ciprofloxac, ceftazidime and meropenem. Results The findings highlighted the the prevalence of Escherichia coli in 38.8% of patients, Candida in 19% of patients, Enterococcus faecalis in 11.8% of patients, Pseudomonas in 10%, Klebsiella in 9.5% patients, Proteus mirabilis 6.2% patients and Staphylococcus was found in 5.2% patients. According to the overall sensitivity and resistance of antibiotics in microorganisms, Meropenem showed 89.6% sensitivity and 10.4% resistance. Ciprofloxacin showed 38.9% sensitivity and 61.1% resistance and ceftazidime showed 22.7 sensitivity and 77.3% resistance. Conclusion UTIs were very common in diabetes patients, and Escherichia coli was the most common uropathogen found. Compared to male patients, more female patients had infections. The uropathogens showed a significant degree of resistance to ceftizidime and ciprofloxacin.

Abstract
Research into aging has grown substantially with the creation of molecular biomarkers of biological age that can be used to determine age acceleration. Concurrently, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) assessment of biomarkers of inflammation and metabolism provides researchers with new ways to examine intermediate risk factors for chronic disease. We used data from a cardiac catheterization cohort to examine associations between biomarkers of cardiometabolic health and accelerated aging assessed using both gene expression (Transcriptomic Age) and DNA methylation (Hannum Age, GrimAge, Horvath Age, and Phenotypic Age). Linear regression models were used to associate accelerated aging with each outcome (cardiometabolic health biomarkers) while adjusting for chronological age, sex, race, and neighborhood socioeconomic status. Our study shows a robust association between GlycA and GrimAge (5.71, 95% CI = 4.36, 7.05, P = 7.94 × 10-16), Hannum Age (1.81, 95% CI = 0.65, 2.98, P = 2.30 × 10-3), and Phenotypic Age (2.88, 95% CI = 1.91, 3.87, P = 1.21 × 10-8). We also saw inverse associations between apolipoprotein A-1 and aging biomarkers. These associations provide insight into the relationship between aging and cardiometabolic health that may be informative for vulnerable populations.

Abstract
Exogenous supplementation of guanidinoacetic acid can mechanistically regulate the energy distribution in muscle cells. This study aimed to investigate the effects of guanidinoacetic acid supplementation on liver and breast muscle fat deposition, lipid levels, and lipid metabolism-related gene expression in ducks. We randomly divided 480 42 days-old female Jiaji ducks into four groups with six replicates and 20 ducks for each replicate. The control group was fed the basal diet, and the experimental groups were fed the basal diet with 400, 600, and 800 mg/kg (GA400, GA600, and GA800) guanidinoacetic acid, respectively. Compared with the control group, (1) the total cholesterol (p = 0.0262), triglycerides (p = 0.0357), malondialdehyde (p = 0.0452) contents were lower in GA400, GA600 and GA800 in the liver; (2) the total cholesterol (p = 0.0365), triglycerides (p = 0.0459), and malondialdehyde (p = 0.0326) contents in breast muscle were decreased in GA400, GA600 and GA800; (3) the high density lipoprotein (p = 0.0356) and apolipoprotein-A1 (p = 0.0125) contents were increased in GA600 in the liver; (4) the apolipoprotein-A1 contents (p = 0.0489) in breast muscle were higher in GA600 and GA800; (5) the lipoprotein lipase contents (p = 0.0325) in the liver were higher in GA600 and GA800; (6) the malate dehydrogenase contents (p = 0.0269) in breast muscle were lower in GA400, GA600, and GA800; (7) the insulin induced gene 1 (p = 0.0326), fatty acid transport protein 1 (p = 0.0412), and lipoprotein lipase (p = 0.0235) relative expression were higher in GA400, GA600, and GA800 in the liver; (8) the insulin induced gene 1 (p = 0.0269), fatty acid transport protein 1 (p = 0.0234), and lipoprotein lipase (p = 0.0425) relative expression were increased in GA400, GA600, and GA800 in breast muscle. In this study, the optimum dosage of 600 mg/kg guanidinoacetic acid improved the liver and breast muscle fat deposition, lipid levels, and lipid metabolism-related gene expression in ducks.

Abstract
Purpose Diabetes is an important contributor to the progression of atherosclerosis (AS). We aimed to investigate the correlation between ketosis episodes and lipid-related parameters in patients with new-onset ketosis-prone type 2 diabetes (KPT2D), further attempting to assess the impact of ketosis episodes on AS. Patients and Methods A cross-sectional study of 147 subjects with new-onset diabetes was performed, including 65 KPT2D subjects (KPT2D group) and 82 non-ketotic type 2 diabetes (T2D) (T2D group) subjects. Anthropometric and biochemical parameters were measured in all subjects. Calculation of atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) by traditional lipid parameters. Results The AIP (P = 0.008) level and the percentage of AIP ≥ 0.24 (P = 0.026) in subjects with KPT2D were higher than in subjects with T2D. The apoA1 (P = 0.001) levels were significantly lower in patients with KPT2D than in patients with T2D. In the KPT2D group, plasma ketones were positively correlated with AIP (P = 0.023) and negatively correlated with apoA1 (P = 0.002). Univariate logistic regression suggested that plasma ketone (OR = 1.704, P = 0.040) was an important related factor for the AS in subjects with KPT2D. Multiple linear regression suggested plasma ketone was significantly positive with AIP (β = 0.437, P = 0.020). In multiple linear regression analysis suggests that apolipoprotein A1 (β = -0.335, P = 0.033) is strongly associated with ketotic episodes in newly diagnosed ketosis-prone type 2 diabetic patients. Conclusion Ketosis episodes in patients with KPT2D were significantly and positively associated with elevated AIP levels and reduced apoA1 levels. Frequent ketosis episodes may accelerate the progression of AS.

Abstract
This study aims to assess the predictive value of the apolipoprotein B (ApoB) /apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) ratio in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) for the rapid progression (RP) of non-culprit coronary lesions (NCCLs) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and observe the effect of the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio on major adverse cardiac events (MACE).A total of 175 patients with DM presenting with ACS who received a PCI and an average 13-month follow-up coronary angiography (CAG) were enrolled from January 2015 to December 2020. According to the CAG, the patients were divided into the RP group and the non-RP group. MACE was defined as a composite of death from cardiac causes, cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction, or rehospitalization from unstable or progressive angina at the end of a 24-month follow-up.The low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), ApoB, ApoB/ApoA1 ratio, and LDL-C/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio levels at baseline were significantly higher in the RP group than in the non-RP group. The ApoA1 level at baseline in the non-RP group was significantly higher than in the RP group. The predictive significance of the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio (area under the curve (AUC) = 0.712) for the RP of NCCLs was significantly higher than those of ApoA1, ApoB, LDL-C/HDL-C ratio (AUC = 0.628, AUC = 0.640, and AUC = 0.620, respectively). A higher ApoB/ApoA1 ratio and the RP of NCCLs were significantly associated with the occurrence of MACE.The ApoB/ApoA1 ratio was an effective clinical indicator for the RP of NCCLs after PCI in patients with DM presenting with ACS. The high ApoB/ApoA1 ratio and the RP of NCCLs were two risks for MACE.

Abstract
AIMS Scarce data explored the associations of apolipoproteins with hemoglobin glycation index (HGI) and triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index. This study determined associations of serum apolipoproteinA1 (ApoA1) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) with HGI and TyG index in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients. METHODS A total of 10,803 CAD patients were included in this cross-sectional pilot study. Serum concentrations of ApoA1 and HDL-C were measured. Analyses of covariance were used to compare the mean differences in glucose metabolism indices (e.g., HGI, TyG index, hemoglobin glycation [HbA1c], fasting blood glucose [FBG]) among the quartiles of ApoA1, HDL-C and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio. RESULTS In multivariate analysis, higher ApoA1, HDL-C and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio were associated with significantly lower HGI (Quartile [Q]4 vs. Q1: -0.032 % vs. 0.017 % for ApoA1; -0.072 % vs. 0.079 % for HDL-C; -0.083 % vs. 0.085 % for HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio). Intermediate ApoA1 level was inversely associated with TyG index (Q2 vs. Q1: 296.278 vs. 306.794). The mean TyG index were significantly decreased with increased HDL-C and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio (Q4 vs. Q1: 298.584 vs. 309.221 for HDL-C; 300.405 vs. 315.218 for HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio). Moreover, the inverse associations of ApoA1, HDL-C and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio with HbA1c and FBG also were observed. In path analysis, the associations of HDL-C and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio with TyG index were mediated by obesity. CONCLUSION This study provided further support for the hypoglycemic effects of ApoA1 and HDL-C in patients with CAD. Replication of these findings is warranted in further longitudinal studies in different populations.

Abstract
AIMS Our study is aimed to investigate the relationship between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol to apolipoprotein A ratio (HDL-C/ApoA) and diabetic retinopathy (DR) in subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS We retrospect the consecutive medical files of 1058 subjects with T2DM and recorded their clinical information and laboratory findings. Subjects with T2DM were divided into DR group (n = 522) and non-DR group (n = 536). We compared the lipids values of the two groups. Meanwhile we also observed the prevalence of DR at different HDL-C/ApoA levels. Binary logistic regression was used to correct confounding factors. Smooth curve fitting model and subgroup analysis were used to determine the correlation, non-linear relationship and threshold effect between HDL/ApoA and DR. RESULTS HDL-C/ApoA value of DR group was significantly higher than non-DR group (0.88 ± 0.17 vs 0.84 ± 0.13, P < 0.05). The prevalence of DR significantly increased as HDL-C/ApoA level increased. There was association between HDL/ApoA levels and DR in the adjusted models (OR 1.55, 95%CI 0.60 to 4.02). After full adjustments for other relevant clinical covariates, patients with HDL/ApoA values in quartile 3 (Q3) had 1.50 times (95 % CI 1.00 to 2.17) and in Q4 had 2.39 times (95%CI 1.65 to 3.47) as high as the risk of DR compared with patients in Q1. HDL/ApoA showed a non-linear relationship with DR, with an inflection point value of 0.759. When HDL/ApoA>0.759, HDL/ApoA was significantly positively associated with DR (HR = 26.508, 95 % CI 7.623-92.174; P < 0.0001). Compared to patients with age < 60, HDL/ApoA was obviously associated with DR when age ≥ 60 (OR = 38.05, 95 % CI 8.06-179.69; P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS HDL-C/ApoA was found to be associated with the incidence of DR in patients with T2DM. After adjusting potential related factors HDL-C/ApoA OR value was 1.55 (95%CI 0.60 to 4.02). A non-linear association between HDL/ApoA and DR was observed in T2DM. Subgroup analysis showed that age could alter the relationship between HDL/ApoA and DR.

Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the association between apolipoprotein B (Apo B) and classical features associated with clinical or subclinical atherosclerosis. A total of 811 adult patients from the general Romanian population, included in the national SEPHAR registry on hypertension, were divided into two groups based on Apo B value (low versus high Apo B with a cut-off established at 130 mg/dL) and subsequently into four subgroups according to the cut-offs recommended by the 2021 ESC Guidelines on Cardiovascular Disease Prevention. In all patients, lipid profile, uric acid, full blood count and presence of significant carotid plaques were assessed. Apo B levels were positively correlated with proatherogenic lipids (total cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL-cholesterol, p < 0.0001) and negatively correlated with HDL cholesterol (all p < 0.05). In comparison with patients with low Apo B levels, those with elevated Apo B levels more frequently presented significant carotid plaques (17% vs. 19% vs. 28% vs. 46%, p < 0.0001). Univariate regression analysis identified a strong association between the level of uric acid and increased value of Apo B in the four subgroups (uric acid 4.8 +/- 1.3 vs. 5 +/- 1.6 vs. 5.1 +/- 1.5 vs. 5.8 +/- 1.6, r = 0.2, p < 0.0001). The results of this nationwide registry on hypertension in Romania indicate that high Apo B may be considered as a risk factor for CVD, promoting atherosclerosis and associated with increased expression of classical markers of clinical or subclinical CVD.

Abstract
Background Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) is involved in lipid transformation and metabolism. Although some studies have examined the association between ApoE polymorphisms and the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), the findings differ depending on the location and population. Methods A total of 1,738 participants, including 743 patients with T2DM and 995 controls without T2DM, were enrolled from central China, and ApoE polymorphisms, 388T > C (rs429358) and 526C > T (rs7412), were genotyped. The association between ApoE alleles and T2DM and blood lipid levels was analyzed. Logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the interactions between ApoE polymorphisms and various factors, such as age, sex, and prevalence of hypertension in patients with T2DM. Results The genotype ɛ3/ɛ4 and ɛ4 alleles of ApoE were associated with T2DM risk in the Chinese Han population in central China. Moreover, in patients with T2DM, participants in the E4 (ɛ3/ɛ4, ɛ4/ɛ4) group had significantly higher lipid profiles than those in the E3 (ɛ3/ɛ3) group, whereas participants in the E2 group (ɛ2/ɛ2, ɛ2/ɛ3) showed lower total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and ApoE-A1 levels than those in the E3 (ɛ3/ɛ3) group. The results from the current study may help in understanding ApoE polymorphisms and lipid profiles in the Chinese Han population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Proteins and metabolites are essential for many biological functions and often linked through enzymatic or transport reactions. Individual molecules have been associated with all-cause mortality. Many of these are correlated and might jointly represent pathways or endophenotypes involved in diseases. RESULTS We present an integrated analysis of proteomics and metabolomics via a local dimensionality reduction clustering method. We identified 224 modules of correlated proteins and metabolites in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study, a general population cohort of older adults (N = 4046, mean age 75.7, mean eGFR 65). Many of the modules displayed strong cross-sectional associations with demographic and clinical characteristics. In comprehensively adjusted analyses, including fasting plasma glucose, history of cardiovascular disease, systolic blood pressure and kidney function among others, 60 modules were associated with mortality. We transferred the network structure to the African American Study of Kidney Disease and Hypertension (AASK) (N = 694, mean age 54.5, mean mGFR 46) and identified mortality associated modules relevant in this disease specific cohort. The four mortality modules relevant in both the general population and CKD were all a combination of proteins and metabolites and were related to diabetes / insulin secretion, cardiovascular disease and kidney function. Key components of these modules included N-terminal (NT)-pro hormone BNP (NT-proBNP), Sushi, Von Willebrand Factor Type A, EGF And Pentraxin (SVEP1), and several kallikrein proteases. CONCLUSION Through integrated biomarkers of the proteome and metabolome we identified functions of (patho-) physiologic importance related to diabetes, cardiovascular disease and kidney function.

Abstract
Sparse data assessed the association of apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) with inflammation. We investigated this association in a hospital-based cross-sectional pilot study that included 7296 patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). In multivariate analysis, negative associations of ApoA1 and HDL-C with C-reactive protein (CRP), high sensitivity CRP (hsCRP), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were shown. The corresponding CRP, hsCRP, and TNF-α values were 5.28 (vs 11.70 mg/L), 4.50 (vs 11.50 mg/L), and 7.68 (vs 10.90 pg/mL) for ApoA1, and 7.13 (vs 10.60 mg/L), 6.27 (vs 9.19 mg/L), and 8.11 (vs 11.86 pg/mL) for HDL-C in the fourth quartiles compared with the first quartiles. ApoA1/HDL-C ratio was inversely associated with hsCRP and interleukin-6 (IL-6). No significant associations of ApoA1 and HDL-C with IL-6 and IL-8, and of ApoA1/HDL-C ratio with CRP, IL-8, and TNF-α were observed. In path analyses, there was no evidence of mediating effects of body mass index on the "ApoA1 and HDL-C-inflammation" relationship. Generally, our study of CAD patients identified graded and inverse associations of ApoA1, HDL-C, and ApoA1/HDL-C ratio with inflammatory marker (CRP, hsCRP, IL-6, IL-8, or TNF-α) levels.

Abstract
PURPOSE Little research has investigated the correlation of changes in long-term apolipoprotein B/apolipoprotein A-I (ApoB/ApoA-I) ratio with risk of new-onset type 2 diabetes (T2D) among ordinary people. Therefore, the research took long-term ApoB/ApoA-I ratio trajectories as independent variables for exploring their association with the risk of newly diagnosed T2D. METHODS Altogether 5362 non-diabetic participants with a median age of 49 were enrolled in the cohort study. Their ApoB/ApoA-I ratio trajectories from 2016 to 2019 were analyzed and grouped using group-based trajectory modeling. The Kaplan-Meier approach was employed for calculating the newly diagnosed T2D-related incidence with different ApoB/ApoA-I ratio trajectories. A log-rank test was conducted for testing the presence of statistical difference in new-onset T2D incidence among the different ApoB/ApoA-I ratio trajectory groups. A multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression model was adopted for analyzing how ApoB/ApoA-I ratio trajectory changes affected new-onset T2D. RESULTS From 2016 to 2019, 199 patients developed T2D (3% in 3 years). The incidence of T2D was 2.0%, 3.28%, 5.86%, and 6.92% for low, middle, upper, and high ApoB/ApoA-I ratio trajectories, respectively. Following adjustment of underlying confounding factors, in contrast to low ApoB/ApoA-I ratio trajectory, new-onset T2D risk ratios and hazard ratio (HR) (95% confidence intervals [CI]) for the middle lower ApoB/ApoA-I ratio trajectory, and upper middle and high ApoB/ApoA-I ratio trajectories were [HR (95% CI)] 1.35(0.88-2.08), 1.98(1.27-3.09) and 2.42(1.35-4.34), respectively, indicating high and statistically significant risks of T2D. CONCLUSION Variations of the ApoB/ApoA-I ratio trajectory exerted independent effects on the 3-year incidence of T2D. Long-term monitoring on the ApoB/ApoA-I ratio locus may help improve the identification on patients with T2D.

Abstract
Apolipoproteins exert a key role on glucose metabolism; however, scarce data have examined the relationship between apolipoproteins and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) in Chinese adults. This study determined the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations of serum Apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and the ApoB/A1 ratio with HbA1c in Chinese adults. A total of 1448 subjects (584 men and 864 women) aged 54.8 years were included in a baseline survey, and the concentrations of Apo and HbA1c were measured. A total of 826 participants were followed up approximately once after 3.94 ± 0.62 years. In cross-sectional analysis, serum ApoA1 was inversely associated with HbA1c, while ApoB and the ApoB/A1 ratio were positively associated with HbA1c. After further adjusting for the potential covariates, a higher ApoA1 was associated with lower HbA1c (Quartile 4 [Q4] vs. Q1 = 5.673% vs. 5.796%, P-trend = 0.014). In contrast, positive association of ApoB concentration and the ApoB/A1 ratio with HbA1c level were showed (Q4 vs. Q1 = 5.805% vs. 5.589% for ApoB; Q4 vs. Q1 = 5.841% vs. 5.582% for ApoB/A1 ratio). The longitudinal results showed no significant associations of ApoA1, ApoB levels and the ApoB/A1 ratio with HbA1c changes (all P-trends > 0.05). Path analysis suggested that body mass index did not have mediating effect on Apo-HbA1c association. Our findings revealed that higher ApoA1, lower ApoB concentrations and the ApoB/A1 ratio were associated with lower HbA1c level in Chinese adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dyslipidemia is a well-recognized risk factor for diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Growing evidences have shown that compared with the traditional lipid parameters, some lipid ratios may provide additional information of lipid metabolism. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate which lipid index was most related to DKD. METHODS This study was a cross-sectional study that enrolled patients with T2D from January 2021 to October 2021. Each participant was screened for DKD, and the diagnostic criterion for DKD is estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 60 ml/min/1.73 m2 or urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) ≥ 30 mg/g for 3 months. Fasting blood was collected to determine lipid profiles by an automatic biochemical analyzer, and lipid ratios were calculated based on corresponding lipid parameters. Spearman's correlation analyses were conducted to assess the correlations between lipid indices and kidney injury indices, and binary logistic regression analyses were conducted to explore the relationship between lipid indices and the risk of DKD. RESULTS A total of 936 patients with T2D were enrolled in the study, 144 (15.38%) of whom had DKD. The LDL-C/Apo B ratios were positively correlated with eGFR (r = 0.146, p < 0.05) and inversely correlated to cystatin C and UACR (r = -0.237 and -0.120, both p < 0.001). Multiple logistic regression demonstrated that even after adjusting for other clinical covariates, the LDL-C/Apo B ratios were negatively related to DKD, and the odds ratio (95% confidence interval) was 0.481 (0.275-0.843). Furthermore, subgroup analyses revealed that compared with patients with normal lipid profiles and a high LDL-C/Apo B ratio, the odds ratio of DKD in patients with normal lipid metabolism and a low LDL-C/Apo B ratio was 2.205 (1.136-4.280) after adjusting for other clinical covariates. CONCLUSION In patients with T2D, the LDL-c/Apo B ratio was most closely associated with DKD among various lipid indices, and a lower LDL-C/Apo B ratio was associated with increased risks of DKD among patients with T2D.

Abstract
The COVID-19 infection is associated with dyslipidemia and cardiovascular complications. The aim of the study was to determine the content of ApoA1, ApoB, and oxidized low-density lipoproteins (oxLDL) in the plasma of patients (n = 81) with COVID-19, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease (CVD). ApoA1, ApoB, and oxLDL were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits (Elabscience, United States). The measurements were performed at an optical wavelength of 450 nm. It was shown that the level of ApoA1 in the blood of patients with type 2 diabetes and especially with COVID-19 was significantly lower than in the blood of healthy people. Blood ApoA1 levels did not show a further decrease in patients with both COVID-19 and diabetes or CVD compared to patients with COVID-19 without concomitant diseases. It was found that the level of ApoB in the blood of patients with diabetes and, especially, with COVID-19 is significantly higher than in the blood of healthy people. Blood levels of ApoB and oxLDL are higher in patients with both COVID-19 and diabetes or CVD compared to patients with COVID-19 without comorbidities. Thus, levels of ApoA1, ApoB, and oxLDL may be promising markers of COVID-19.
