Abstract
AIM To construct a network structure for cognitive emotion regulation among Chinese undergraduate nursing students and identify central nodes and to explore the bridge connections between cognitive emotion regulation strategies and professional identity from the perspective of network analysis. BACKGROUND Undergraduate nursing students are currently in a poor psychological condition and cognitive emotion regulation strategies can help them use positive approaches to regulate their emotions. There may be a link between cognitive emotion regulation strategies and professional identity. DESIGN This was a cross-sectional study that used network analysis. METHOD A total of 218 Chinese undergraduate nursing students were selected and surveyed using the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and the Professional Identity Questionnaire. A network analysis model was constructed and the related indices were calculated using R 4.3.0 software. RESULTS Network analysis showed that the central nodes of undergraduate nursing students' cognitive emotion regulation strategies were positive reappraisal, refocusing on planning and catastrophising; In the bridge network of cognitive emotion strategies and professional identity, professional self-concept, positive reappraisal, benefits of stay and risk of resignation and refocusing on planning were the nodes with the strongest bridge strength. CONCLUSION The salient central and bridge nodes can serve as potential targets for interventions aimed at improving the mental health of undergraduate nursing students. Nursing educators must be trained in cognitive emotion regulation and appropriately guided to use positive emotion regulation strategies in their studies and work. Educators should focus on the relation between cognitive emotion regulation and professional identity to improve the mental health of nursing students and stabilise the nursing workforce.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Burnout is very important to nurses' physical and mental health and career development. Current approaches to assessing nurse burnout tend to use a total score modeling paradigm to explore the impact of external factors on burnout. The purpose of this study is to delve into the item-level relationship between nurse burnout and its influencing factors at both the social and psychological levels using a network analysis approach. METHODS This study was conducted in June 2023 and 1,005 nurses from 4 hospitals out of 8 tertiary care hospitals in Harbin were selected to participate in this study using whole cluster sampling method. Measurements included a general demographic questionnaire, Trait coping styles questionnaire, Organizational commitment questionnaire, Work-family conflict scale, Transformational leadership questionnaire, and Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey. RESULTS Our results suggest that "C1 Time-Based work interference with family" showed the strongest centrality and bridging in the overall network. This finding underscores its centrality to burnout. Other strongest bridge symptoms included "E2 Reduced personal accomplishment" and "A1 Positive coping styles" indicating their strongest connections to other clusters. CONCLUSIONS Nurse administrators should be encouraged to pay more attention to nurses' work situations and family distress, and to help nurses in a flexible way.

Abstract
Research on burnout has garnered considerable attention since its inception. However, the ongoing debate persists regarding the conceptual model of burnout and its relationship with depression. Thus, we conducted a network analysis to determine the dimensional structure of burnout and the burnout-depression overlap. The Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 were used to measure burnout and depression among 1096 college students. We constructed networks for burnout, depression, and a burnout-depression co-occurrence network. The results showed that cynicism symptom was the most central to the burnout network. In the co-occurrence network, depressive symptoms ("anhedonia", "fatigue") and burnout symptom ("doubting the significance of studies") were the most significant in causing burnout-depression comorbidity. Community detection revealed three communities within burnout symptoms, aligning closely with their three dimensions identified through factor analysis. Additionally, there was no overlap between burnout and depression. In conclusion, our findings support a multidimensional structure of burnout, affirming it as a distinct concept separate from depression. Cynicism, rather than exhaustion, plays the most important role in burnout and the burnout-depression comorbidity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Body mass index (BMI) can affect an individual's health. The night shift is a characteristic of the nursing profession, which is associated with an abnormal BMI. However, few studies have investigated the association between BMI and burnout in Chinese nurses. This study examined the association between BMI and burnout among Chinese nurses. METHODS A total of 1863 nurses from 12 tertiary hospitals in Shandong Province of China were selected. BMI was calculated as body weight divided by height squared. The Maslach Burnout Service Inventory General Survey (MBI-GS) was used to measure the level of burnout among nurses. Ordinal logistic regression was used to analyse the association between BMI and burnout. RESULTS In this study, the prevalence of normal BMI, underweight, overweight, and obesity was 69.2%, 7.5%, 18.2%, and 5.2%, respectively. The prevalence of high emotional exhaustion, high cynicism, and low personal accomplishment among nurses was 26.1%, 38.7%, and 35.6%, respectively. Nurses who were obese were more likely to have high levels of emotional exhaustion (OR=1.493, 95% CI: 1.011 to 2.206) and cynicism (OR=1.511, 95% CI: 1.014 to 2.253), and nurses who were underweight were more likely to have high levels of cynicism (OR=1.593, 95% CI: 1.137 to 2.232) compared with those who were normal weight. CONCLUSIONS Obesity was positively associated with emotional exhaustion and cynicism, and being underweight was only positively associated with cynicism among Chinese nurses. Hospital administrators should consider BMI when taking effective measures to reduce burnout among nurses.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Burnout is a common issue among medical professionals, and one of the well-studied predisposing factors is the Big Five personality traits. However, no studies have explored the relationships between these traits and burnout from a trait-to-component perspective. To understand the specific connections between each Big Five trait and burnout components, as well as the bridging effects of each trait on burnout, we employed network analysis. METHODS A cluster sampling method was used to select a total of 420 Chinese medical personnel. The 15-item Chinese Big Five Personality Inventory-15 (CBF-PI-15) assessed the Big Five personality traits, while the 15-item Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS) assessed burnout components. Network analysis was used to estimate network structure of Big Five personality traits and burnout components and calculate the bridge expected influence. RESULTS The study revealed distinct and clear relationships between the Big Five personality traits and burnout components. For instance, Neuroticism was positively related to Doubt significance and Worthwhile, while Conscientiousness was negatively related to Accomplish all tasks. Among the Big Five traits, Neuroticism displayed the highest positive bridge expected influence, while Conscientiousness displayed the highest negative bridge expected influence. CONCLUSIONS The network model provides a means to investigate the connections between the Big Five personality traits and burnout components among medical professionals. This study offers new avenues for thought and potential targets for burnout prevention and treatment in medical personnel, which can be further explored and tested in clinical settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In public health emergencies, nurses are vulnerable to adverse reactions, especially job burnout. It is critical to identify nurses at risk of burnout early and implement interventions as early as possible. METHODS A cross-sectional survey of the hospitals in Xiangyang City was conducted in January, 2023 using stratified cluster sampling. Anonymized data were collected from 1584 working nurses. The Impact of Events Scale-Revised (IES-R) and the Chinese version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS) were used to evaluate the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and burnout of nurses in public health emergencies. Logistic regression analysis was established to screen for risk factors of burnout, and a nomogram was developed to predict the risk of burnout. A calibration curve and the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve were used to validate the nomogram internally. RESULTS This study showed that only 3.7% of nurses were completely free of PTSD during a public health emergency. We found that PTSD varied by age, marital status, procreation status, length of service, employee status, and whether working in the ICU. The nurses aged 30 ~ 40 years old, single, married without children, non-regular employees, worked for less than three years or worked in the ICU had higher levels of PTSD. Regarding the prevalence of burnout, 27.4%, 48.5%, and 18.6% of nurses had a high level of emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP), and diminished personal accomplishment (PA), respectively. There, 31.1% of nurses had more than two types of job burnout. The number of night shifts, the type of hospital, marital status, and the severity of PTSD were all associated with higher rates of exhaustion among nurses. As a graphical representation of the model, a nomogram was created and demonstrated excellent calibration and discrimination in both sets (AUC = 0.787). CONCLUSIONS This study confirmed the PTSD and burnout are common problems for in-service nurses during public health emergencies and screened out the high-risk groups of job burnout. It is necessary to pay more attention nurses who are single and working in general hospitals with many night shifts, especially nurses with severe PTSD. Hospitals can set up nurses' personal health records to give timely warnings to nurses with health problems, and carry out support interventions to relieve occupational stress.

Abstract
Background Suicide is a worldwide public health problem. Evidence from previous studies has confirmed the relationship among anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation. However, the complex psychopathological pathways between anxiety and suicidal ideation and between depression and suicidal ideation require further study. Methods A total of 505 college students from Shanghai during COVID-19 pandemic were investigated in an online study. Anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation of the participants were investigated. R software was used to construct the anxiety-suicidal ideation and depression-suicidal ideation networks and to evaluate the bridge expected influences. Results The anxiety-suicidal ideation network had 28 cross-community edges, the strongest one was A7 "Afraid something will happen"-S7 "Unable to solve personal problem"; A5 "Restlessness" and S3 "Hopelessness and suicide thoughts" had the highest bridge expected influences. The depression-suicidal ideation network had 36 cross-community edges, and the strongest one was D9 "Thoughts of death"-S5 "Unable to accomplish something important"; D9 "Thoughts of death" and S3 "Hopelessness and suicide thoughts" had the highest bridge expected influences. Conclusion Intricate psychopathological pathways exist between anxiety and suicidal ideation and between depression and suicidal ideation. "Restlessness", "Thoughts of death" and "Hopelessness and suicide thoughts" are considered targets for suicidal ideation interventions. The present study enriches the theory of symptoms and mental disorders and provides a reliable reference for the intervention practice of suicidal ideation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Burnout, depression, and anxiety are highly prevalent among medical students, which often leads to their attrition. We aim to assess the inter-relationships of depression, burnout, and anxiety symptoms with dropout intention among Chinese medical undergraduates using the network analysis. METHOD A total of 3,648 Chinese medical undergraduates were recruited through snowball sampling. Learning burnout scale, 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), and General Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) was used to assess burnout, depression, and anxiety symptoms, respectively. We used the EBICglasso model to estimate the network. We compared the network based on gender, study phase, and clinical experience. RESULTS After removing repeated submissions and incorrect responses to the trap question, 3,536 participants were included in the final analysis. The prevalence of burnout, depression, anxiety, and dropout intention was 38, 62.7, 38.4, and 39% respectively, which is consistent with previous findings. Network analysis suggested that anxiety and depression items clustered together and displayed several strong bridge connections, while burnout items formed another cluster. All the strongest edges were within the respective distress. Cynicism symptoms 'I am fed up with study' and 'I want to study but I feel that studying is boring' were the most central symptoms, while 'fatigue' and 'worthless' were the bridge symptoms within the burnout-depression-anxiety network. Other central symptoms included 'worthless', 'I can handle my courses', 'nervous', and 'uncontrollable worry'. Cynicism symptoms 'I am interested in my major' and 'I feel that the knowledge I have learned is useless' were mostly related to dropout intention. Gender, study phase, and clinical experience didn't affect the global strength of the burnout-depression-anxiety network. CONCLUSION Our results indicated the predominance of cynicism symptoms within the burnout-depression-anxiety network and its substantial impact on dropout intention, suggesting that early detection and intervention for cynicism symptoms in Chinese medical students are in urgent need. Other central and bridge symptoms might also serve as potential targets for the prevention and treatment of burnout, depression, and anxiety among medical students. For example, studies suggest cognitive-behavioral therapy could quickly improve 'worthless', which might be beneficial in treating burnout, depression, and anxiety in medical students.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This research analyses the relations between anxiety symptoms from the network perspective to deepen the understanding of anxiety in front-line medical staff during the COVID-19 pandemic and can also provide a reference for determining potential goals of clinical interventions. METHODS A convenience sampling was adopted, and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) was administered to front-line medical staff through online platforms. A regularized partial correlation network of anxiety was constructed and then we evaluated its accuracy and stability. The expected influence and predictability were used to describe the relative importance and the controllability, using community detection to explore community structure. The gender-based differences and the directed acyclic graph were implemented. RESULTS The connections between A1 "Feeling nervous, anxious or on edge" and A2 "Not being able to stop or control worrying", A6 "Becoming easily annoyed or irritable" and A7 "Feeling afraid as if something awful might happen", etc., were relatively strong; A2 "Not being able to stop or control worrying" and A3 "Worrying too much about different things" had the highest expected influence, and A2 "Not being able to stop or control worrying" had the highest predictability. The community detection identified two communities. The results of the gender network comparison showed the overall intensity of the anxiety network in women was higher than that in men; DAG indicated that A2 "Not being able to stop or control worrying" had the highest probabilistic priority; the lines from A2 "Not being able to stop or control worrying" to A1 "Feeling nervous, anxious or on edge" and A2 "Not being able to stop or control worrying" to A7 "Feeling afraid as if something awful might happen" represented the most important arrows. CONCLUSION There exist broad interconnections among anxiety symptoms of front-line medical staff on the GAD-7. A2 "Not being able to stop or control worrying" might be the core symptom and a potential effective intervention target. It was possible to bring an optimal result for the entire GAD symptom network by interfering with A2 "Not being able to stop or control worrying". GAD may have two "subsystems". The modes of interconnection among anxiety may be consistent between genders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND work alienation is receiving increasing attention as a psychological risk at work, and little is known about the mechanisms of role ambiguity and work alienation in nurses in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. This article aims to examine how role ambiguity affects work alienation among Chinese nurses during the two years after COVID-19 pandemic and verify emotional exhaustion as mediators. METHODS A cross-sectional study design was used to recruit 281 Chinese nurses. Nurses completed online questionnaires containing demographic characteristics, role ambiguity, emotional exhaustion, and work alienation, and SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 24.0 were used for data analysis and structural equation modelling. RESULTS work alienation scores were (34.64 ± 10.09), work alienation was correlated with role ambiguity and emotional exhaustion (r1 = 0.521, r2 = 0.755; p < .01), and role ambiguity was positively correlated with emotional exhaustion (r = 0.512; p < .01). A mediating effect of emotional exhaustion between role ambiguity and work alienation held (mediating effect of 0.288, 95% CI: 0.221-0.369, accounting for 74.8% of the total effect). CONCLUSION Role ambiguity has a significant direct effect on nurses' feelings of alienation and exacerbates alienation through emotional exhaustion. Clarifying roles at work and being less emotionally drained are effective ways to reduce nurses' feelings of alienation.

Abstract
Ego depletion refers to the state of low self-control ability as defined by the limited resource model of self-control. The ego depletion aftereffects scale (EDA-S) is a relatively mature tool for evaluating ego depletion. However, the internal structure of EDA-S is not clear. A deeper understanding of its internal structure, especially the core variables, is required to design better interventions to improve people's ego depletion outcomes and self-control. In the present study, we estimated an unregularized partial correlation network of ego depletion in a sample of 499 male young adults in China, who participated in the EDA-S test, and calculated the centrality index. The results showed that all nodes in the ego depletion network were positively correlated. The five strongest edges were between somatic distress and fatigue, emotional regulation disorder and social withdrawal, work burnout and low self-efficacy, low adherence and low self-efficacy, and fatigue and low processing fluency. Fatigue, low self-efficacy, and emotional regulation disorder had the highest strength centrality, indicating that these three variables may play an important role in the network of ego depletion. This study conceptualizes ego depletion from the perspective of networks in order to provide potential targets for related interventions and insights for future studies.

Abstract
Aim. This study aimed to quantitatively compare the effects of perceived social support, resilience, and task load on occupational burnout and flow at work in male nurses, as well as the complex relationships among these variables. Background. Male nurses play a vital role in the healthcare system. However, little is known about the key factors that may improve the work experience of male nurses. Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted from June to December 2021. A convenience sample of 356 male nurses completed measures of general information, burnout, flow at work, perceived social support, resilience, and task load. Dominance analysis and network analysis were used to explore the associations between the variables studied. Results. Among the variables studied, perceived social support most strongly predicted burnout, while perceived social support and resilience had equal predictive weights in flow at work. The network analysis found that resilience was the bridge indicator with the strongest connections to other variables. Conclusion. The interventions focused on the perceived social support and resilience of male nurses could help improve their work experience. Implications for Nursing Management. Nursing administrators should give male nurses more support and understanding to reduce burnout at work. At the same time, administrators can conduct psychological lectures to improve male nurses’ resilience, thereby increasing their flow at work. Providing challenging tasks that match male nurses’ skills could also help improve their work experience.

Abstract
Background Chinese pediatricians are facing challenges, and there is a need to examine the issue of negative emotions, namely, stress, anxiety and depression, among front-line pediatric residents in clinical settings. Understanding the current situation and influencing factors of negative emotions among pediatric residents in China and exploring the formation mechanism can lay a foundation for psychological interventions. Methods A total of 138 pediatric residents in the Children's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, China, were surveyed using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21), Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS). Results (1) The incidence of abnormal stress, anxiety, and depression among pediatric residents was 18.8%, 47.8%, and 47.8% respectively. (2) Negative emotions were significantly negatively correlated with social supports and psychological resilience, and positively correlated with burnout. (3) The chain-mediating effect of resilience and burnout between social supports and negative emotions was significant. Conclusion Psychological resilience and burnout played a chain-mediating role between social supports and negative emotions. Measures should be taken to improve the mental health of Chinese pediatric residents.

Abstract
Background Family function plays a pivotal role in self-management among patients with early chronic kidney disease (CKD), which has been especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous studies have investigated the relationships between family function and self-management using total scores through self-report questionnaires while ignoring the different components in both family function and self-management. The specific objective of this study was to explore the network structure of family function and self-management at the component level. Methods A total of 360 patients with early CKD from three tertiary hospitals were enrolled in our cross-sectional survey from September to December 2021 in China. Components of family function were measured by the Family Adaptation Partnership Growth and Resolve Index, and components of self-management were measured by the Chronic Kidney Disease Self-management Instrument. Network analysis was used to establish the network structure. Results Edges across the community of family function and self-management were mainly positive. Edges between F3 "Growth" and M1 "Self-integration", F2 "Partnership" and M3 "Seeking social support," F5 "Resolve" and M3 "Seeking social support" were the strongest. F3 "Growth" had the greatest positive bridge expected influence of family function community (0.12), and M3 "Seeking social support" had the greatest positive bridge expected influence of self-management community (0.16). Conclusion We explored the potential pathways between different components of family function and self-management among patients with early CKD during the COVID-19 pandemic and found fine-grained relationships between them. The two nodes F3 "Growth" and M3 "Seeking social support" may provide a new idea from the perspective of family function for interventions to improve self-management.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To explore burnout syndrome (BOS) incidence, doctor-patient relationship, and family support on pediatric medical staff in Shanghai comprehensive hospitals during a COVID-19 local outbreak. METHODS A cross-sectional survey of pediatric medical staff from 7 comprehensive hospitals across Shanghai was conducted from March to July 2022. The survey included BOS, doctor-patient relationships, family support, and the related factors of COVID-19. The T-test, variance, the LSD-t test, Pearson's r correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analyses examined the data. RESULTS Using Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS), 81.67% of pediatric medical staff had moderate BOS, and 13.75% were severe. The difficult doctor-patient relationship was positively correlated with emotional exhaustion(EE), cynicism(Cy), and negatively with personal accomplishment(PA). When medical staff need help, the greater the support provided by the family, the lower the EE and CY, and the higher the PA. CONCLUSION "In our study, the pediatric medical staff in Shanghai comprehensive hospitals had significant BOS during a COVID-19 local outbreak." We provided the potential steps that can be taken to reduce the increasing rate of BOS in pandemics. These measures include increased job satisfaction, psychological support, maintaining good health, increased salary, lower intent to leave the profession, regularly carrying out COVID-19 prevention training, improving doctor-patient relations, and strengthening family support.

Abstract
Background Although poor mental well-being (MW) has been documented among individuals experiencing burnout during the coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) pandemic, little is known about the complex interrelationship between different components of MW and burnout. This study investigates this relationship among medical staff during the COVID-19 pandemic through network analysis. Methods A total of 420 medical staff were recruited for this study. Components of MW were measured by the 14-item Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale (WEMWBS), and components of burnout were measured by a 15-item Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS) Questionnaire. Network structure was constructed via network analysis. Bridge variables were identified via the bridge centrality index. Results The edges across two communities (i.e., MW community and burnout community) are almost negative, such as edge MW2 ("Useful") - B14 ("Worthwhile") and edge MW1 ("Optimistic about future") - B13 ("Happy"). The edges within each community are nearly positive. In the MW community, components MW1 ("Optimistic about future") and MW6 ("Dealing with problems") have the lowest bridge centrality. And in the community of burnout, components B13 ("Happy") and B14 ("Worthwhile") have the lowest bridge expected influence. Conclusion We present the first study to apply the network approach to model the potential pathways between distinct components of MW and burnout. Our findings suggest that promoting optimistic attitudes and problem-solving skills may help reduce burnout among medical staff during the pandemic.

Objectives To investigate the network structure of ego depletion and work alienation in Chinese nurses and identify bridge items to provide suggestions to reduce ego depletion and work alienation. Methods A total of 353 nurses from three hospitals were enrolled in our cross-sectional study by convenience sampling from June to October 2021 in China. They completed an online survey, which included the Sociodemographic Questionnaire, Nurses’ Work Alienation Questionnaire, and Self-Regulating Fatigue Scale (SRF-S). The R packages qgraph, networktools, and bootnet were used to estimate the network model and calculate the indices. Results The correlation between ego depletion and work alienation was mainly positive. The correlation between “Sometimes I do not know what to do with the work instructions from my superiors” and “I have difficulties remembering things” was the strongest among the cross-community correlations (r = 0.14). The bridge strength centrality indices of “Sometimes I do not know what to do with the work instructions from my superiors,” “I always feel like a loser” and “I have difficulties remembering things” were the highest (z score = 3.15, 2.83, 1.43). The correlation stability coefficient of the centrality index was larger than 0.25. Conclusion Nurses’ ego depletion and work alienation are correlated. “Sometimes I do not know what to do with the work instructions from my superiors,” “I always feel like a loser” and “I have difficulties remembering things” act as bridges between ego depletion and work alienation communities, and should be the focus of nurses’ psychological tests. Our study provides potential targets for interventions to reduce work alienation from the perspective of ego depletion.

Abstract
The network perspective of mental disorder offers a novel way of understanding the psychopathology of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In this framework, PTSD may arise from direct interactions between its symptoms. In the present study, we used the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist-civilian Version (PCL-C) to investigate the network structure of PTSD symptoms in 994 Chinese male firefighters. We also calculated the micro (i.e., edges weight and node expected influence) and middle (i.e., community) indicators of the final network. Nine strongest edges existed in the final network were from the same dimension of PCL-C, like "avoidance of thoughts" and "avoidance of reminders". Symptoms "emotional reactivity", "avoidance of reminders" and "exaggerated startle response" had the highest expected influence. As for the results of community detection, the spinglass and walktrap algorithm detected the same three communities which are slightly different from the original dimensions of PCL-C (i.e., symptoms "avoidance of thoughts", "avoidance of reminders" and "trauma-related amnesia" of avoidance dimension of PCL-C were added to the intrusion dimension of PCL-C). The present study explored the network structure of PTSD symptoms in Chinese male firefighters and provided several implications for clinical prevention and intervention to address the mental health needs in this special group.

Abstract
It will be helpful for older people to maintain good mental health by improving their marital satisfaction. The present study investigates how the elements of marital satisfaction among older couples are related to each other and reveal the key elements. Four hundred ninety-four older people participated in the study. Marital satisfaction was assessed by the 10-item marital satisfaction subscale of the ENRICH scale. Network analysis was adopted to estimate the network structure of these 10 items and the strength centrality of each item was calculated. The results showed that all edges in the final network were positive. Four edges with the strongest regularized partial correlations appeared between “ leisure activities and spending time together” and “ emotional expression”; “ personality and habits” and “ communication and understanding”; “ economic status and the manner of determining economic affairs” and “ relationship with relatives and friends”; and “ make decisions and resolve conflict” and “ emotional expression.” In addition, “ emotional expression” had the highest node strength value in the network. “ Communication and understanding” and “ views are consistent” had the second and third highest node strength values, respectively. “ Views are consistent” was more central in males than females and was the second central node in male networks. In conclusion, the present study offers a new perspective to deepen the understanding about the internal structure of marital satisfaction among older couples via network analysis. The results might provide potential targets of intervention for social workers or family therapists to greatly improve marital satisfaction among older couples.
