Abstract
Purpose To determine the 50 most frequently cited studies on osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) and to conduct a bibliometric analysis of these studies. Methods We performed a search within the Clarivate Web of Science database, identifying articles published before December 2022 that encompass topics related to OCD. The search was conducted using the keywords "Osteochondritis Dissecans OR Osteochondritis OR Dissecans."Search results were then filtered using predetermined guidelines and criteria, and the 50 most-cited articles were selected for analysis. Extracted data included title, journal, design, main topic, joint, citations, year, country of origin, and level of evidence. Results The search yielded 3,865 articles. The 50 most-cited articles were published between 1957 and 2018, with the greatest proportion published from 2000 to 2009 (60%). The most frequently studied topic was treatment (68%), followed by etiology (14%) and imaging (8%). The majority of articles had Level IV evidence (36%) and the largest proportion focused on the knee joint (36%), followed by the ankle (32%), and elbow (6%). The mean citation count per article was 287 (range: 157-1,050), with the most-cited articles primarily published from 2000 to 2003. The leading country of origin was the United States, accounting for 19 publications. Conclusions Most of the top 50 most-cited articles regarding OCD are about treatment, and the knee is the most-studied joint. The majority of the articles were Level IV evidence and were published in the United States between 2000 and 2009. Clinical Relevance The top 50 most-cited studies list will provide researchers, medical students, residents, and fellows with a foundational list of the most important and influential academic contributions regarding osteochondritis dissecans (OCD).

Abstract
Background We reviewed the shoulder arthroplasty (SA) literature to correlate citations, methodological characteristics and quality of most-cited articles in this field. We hypothesized that a greater number of citations would be found for high-quality clinical studies. Methods We searched the Web of Knowledge database for the 50 most-cited articles about SA and collected author name, publication year, country of origin, journal, article type, level of evidence (LoE), subject of paper, type of arthroplasty and metrics (number of citations and citation rate). Coleman Methodology Score (CMS) was computed for clinical articles. Statistical analysis of variance and correlation coefficients were used to investigate the relationship between different variables. Results Out of the selected 50 studies on SA, 26% were nonclinical. There were 15,393 citations overall (mean 307.8), with a mean 19.5 citations per year (range 48.3-6.7). Thirty or 60% of all articles were LoE IV. All studies were published between 1984 and 2011 in 8 journals. Reverse SA (RSA) was the most common subject (36% of studies). The United States was the country responsible for most contributions (50% of studies). CMS ranged from 81 to 38 (mean 59.6). RSA received the highest number of citations (P < .001), independently from country of origin (P = .137) and LoE (P = .723). CMS correlated with citation rate (r = 0.397; P = .013) and publication year (tau = 0.397; P = .013), but not with LoE (P = .204). Conclusion In SA literature, citation rate positively correlates with methodological quality of a study, independently from publication country and LoE. Among most-cited papers, RSA is the most common standalone subject.

Abstract
PURPOSE Patellofemoral arthroplasty (PFA) was shown to be a potentially effective surgical technique for isolated patellofemoral osteoarthritis but varying reports on PFA-related implant failure and complications have rendered the procedure controversial. This study aimed to identify impactful publications, research interests/efforts, and collaborative networks in the field of PFA research. METHODS The study used the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database, Medline, Springer, BIOSIS Citation Index, and PubMed to retrieve relevant publications on PFA research published between 1950-2022. Statistical tests in R software were used for analysis while VOSviewer, Bibliometrix, and CiteSpace were employed for data visualization. RESULTS Two hundred forty-one articles were analyzed with the number of published papers increasing over time. Knee was the most frequent journal and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research was the most cited journal. Clinical outcomes, such as prosthesis survival, revision, and complications, were researched most frequently as demonstrated by keyword analysis. The United States was the top contributor to cooperative networks, followed by the United Kingdom while Technical University Munich formed close ties among authors. CONCLUSION Publications on PFA research have witnessed a notable surge. They primarily came from a limited number of centers and were characterized by low-level evidence. The majority of studies primarily focused on the clinical outcomes of PFA, while revision of PFA and patient satisfaction have emerged as new research areas.

Abstract
Background Scientific progress in the field of knee and hip arthroplasty has enabled the preservation of mobility and quality of life in the case of patients with many primary degenerative and (post-) traumatic joint diseases. This comparative study aims to investigate differences in scientific performance between the leading continents in the field of hip and knee arthroplasty. Methods Using specific search terms all studies published by the scientific leading continents Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania listed in the Web of Science databases were included. All identified publications were analysed and comparative conclusions were drawn regarding the qualitative and quantitative scientific merit of each continent. Results Europe, followed by North America, Asia, and Oceania, had the highest overall number of publications in the field of arthroplasty. Since 2000, there has been a strong increase in knee arthroplasty publication rate, particular pronounced in Asia. Studies performed and published in North America and those on knee arthroplasty received the highest number of fundings. Publications regarding hip arthroplasty achieved the highest average citation rate. In contradistinction to the others, in North America most funding was provided by private agencies. Conclusion Although Europe showed the highest total number of publications, authors and institutions, arthroplasty research from North America received greater scientific attention and financial support. Measured by citations, publications on hip arthroplasty attained higher scientific interest and studies on knee arthroplasty received higher economic affection.

Abstract
Background The use of robotics in arthroplasty surgery has increased substantially in recent years. The purpose of this study was to objectively identify the 100 most influential studies in the robotic arthroplasty literature and to conduct a bibliometric analysis of these studies to describe their key characteristics. Methods The Clarivate Analytics Web of Knowledge database was used to gather data and metrics for robotic arthroplasty research using Boolean queries. The search list was sorted in descending order by the number of citations, and articles were included or excluded based on clinical relevance to robotic arthroplasty. Results The top 100 studies were cited a total of 5770 times from 1997 to 2021, with rapid growth in both citation generation and the number of articles published occurring in the past 5 years. The top 100 robotic arthroplasty articles originated from 12 countries, with the United States being responsible for almost half of the top 100. The most common study types were comparative studies (36) followed by case series (20), and the most common levels of evidence were III (23) and IV (33). Conclusions Research on robotic arthroplasty is rapidly growing and originates from a wide variety of countries, academic institutions, and with significant industry influence. This article serves as a reference to direct orthopaedic practitioners to the 100 most influential studies in robotic arthroplasty. We hope that these 100 studies and the analysis we provide aid healthcare professionals in efficiently assessing consensus, trends, and needs within the field.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The impact of social determinants of health (SDOH) has been documented in orthopaedic literature. However, there is a lack of data on the inclusion of these variables in orthopaedic studies. Our aim was to investigate how many total hip arthroplasties and total knee arthroplasties randomized controlled trials report SDOH variables such as race, ethnicity, insurance, income, and education within the manuscript. METHODS A systematic review was conducted on a PubMed search for randomized controlled trials published from 2017 to 2019 in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Journal of Arthroplasty, Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, and Osteoarthritis and Cartilage. Data collected included publication year, type of surgery, and the inclusion of race, ethnicity, insurance, income, and education. RESULTS Of the 72 manuscripts included in the study, 5.6% of the manuscripts mentioned race, 4.2% included race within the demographic table, and 1.4% included ethnicity in the demographic table. Overall, only 5 studies discussed any one of the variables studied and none included any SDOH variables in their multivariable regressions. There were no statistically significant differences on inclusion across journal year (P value = .78), journal name (P value = 1.00), or surgery type (P value = .555). CONCLUSION Our findings identify a major shortcoming in the inclusion of SDOH variables in total knee arthroplasty/total hip arthroplasty publications. Their exclusion may be indirectly perpetuating disparities if research that does not use representative patient samples is used in creating health policies and national standards. Abstract
BACKGROUND Shoulder arthroplasty has had increasing global demand, technical development, and research interest in the past few decades, with the publication of numerous articles. However, little is known about the characteristics and evaluation of these articles. Our objective was to study and analyze the top 100 cited articles in shoulder arthroplasty research. MATERIALS AND METHODS Publications on shoulder arthroplasty from inception to 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science. The top 100 publications were defined by the number of citations, and their characteristics were recorded and analyzed. A visualized study of the articles was performed using VOSviewer software. RESULTS The top 100 cited articles were published between 1981 and 2018, with the 2000s the most productive decade. Citations per article ranged from 103 to 822. The countries with the most articles were the United States followed by France and Switzerland. Most of the articles were level III evidence. The keywords for the articles were primarily in 5 clusters: infection, fracture, osteoarthritis, perioperative complications, and prosthetic design. CONCLUSIONS The characteristics of influential articles on shoulder arthroplasty were thoroughly analyzed. Most studies focused on surgical techniques and perioperative complications with a relatively low level of evidence.

Abstract
(1) Background: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is one of the most common procedures used for adult hip reconstruction, employing mainly two types of prostheses: cemented (CHP) and cementless (CLHP). This study aims to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on THA with CHP and CLHP, in terms of the benefit/cost ratio. (2) Methods: This article represents a retrospective analysis of the differences concerning the benefit/cost ratio between THA with the two types of prostheses in 2950 patients admitted for THA in the two orthopedic clinics of our hospital between 1 January 2015-1 March 2020 in comparison with 1005 THA subjects seen between 1 April 2020-31 December 2022. (3) Results: In the first period, THA with CHP was performed in 45.83% of cases, while CLHP was used in 54.16% of patients. During the COVID-19 period, CHP was inserted in 52% of THA patients, while the other 48% had CLHP inserted, with a hospitalization duration reduced by over 50% for both types of implants (p ˂ 0.001). (4) Conclusions: CHP offered good outcomes, with quicker mobilization, and shorter hospitalization duration, compared to CLHP, but optimization of the patients' management can be achieved mainly by reducing the length of hospitalization through an appropriate preoperative patient evaluation through a multidisciplinary approach, an aspect that was proven during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
Synthetic lethality (SL) is a lethal phenomenon with an important role in cancer treatment. This study was conducted to analyze the hotspots and frontiers in SL research. The Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) was used to identify the 100 top-cited articles related to SL research. Additionally, wee1 inhibitors combined with erastin were used to determine the effectiveness of SL in vitro and in vivo. Relevant articles were published mainly from 2009 to 2021, reaching a peak in 2020; articles published in 2010 were most frequently cited among the 100-top cited papers. Most studies (54%) were performed in the United States. Articles in Nature Chemical Biology were cited more frequently than articles in other journals, whereas Nature published the largest number of reports on SL. Among the 88 corresponding authors, CJ Lord was the most productive. Overlay visualization of keyword analysis revealed that the hotspots in SL research were PARP inhibitors, BRCA mutations, DNA damage repair, and carcinogenesis. CRISPR, ferroptosis, wee1, double-strand break (dsb) repair, myc, immunotherapy, and replication stress are emerging topics in SL research, whereas ovarian cancer, prostate stress, acute myeloid leukemia, and other topics have been used as disease models in recent years. The application and therapeutic strategy of SL in cancer is an emerging trend. Significantly, experiments verified that the wee1 inhibitor AZD1775 and ferroptosis activator erastin have synergistic effects on ovarian cancer in vitro and in vivo. Combining bibliometric analysis with experimental verification is a useful approach for SL research.

Abstract
Purpose To compile and analyze the top 50 most frequently cited articles published on robotic-assisted arthroplasty, allowing clinicians to effectively identify the most influential literature pertaining to this topic. Methods Guidelines set by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews were used as the foundation for data collection and analysis. All papers pertaining to robotic-assisted arthroplasty were retrieved using the Scopus database. Data including: manuscript title, authors, total citation count, level of evidence, journal, publication year, and country of publication was extracted from a final list of articles. Results The top 50 publications regarding robotic assisted arthroplasty were cited a total of 4530 times (including self-citations), with an average total of 91. The years with the most publications in the top 50 were: 2017, 2018, and 2019, producing 7, 6, and 5 papers, respectively. Only 4 papers in the top 50 were published prior to the year 2003. The most common level of evidence was level V, and the most common category was Clinical Outcomes (74%). The United States contributed half of the 50 articles, and Princess Grace Hospital and University of London were the most contributory institutions, each with 6 of the top 50 articles. Conclusion This analysis provides a comprehensive review of the most cited and influential papers in robotic-assisted arthroplasty. Understanding these trends in the literature will ultimately pave the way for physicians and researchers to continue to innovate and research in a targeted manner as they gain an understanding of what has been studied and what remains inadequately explored. Abstract
Objectives This study evaluates the publication output of the Indian authors on the topic of Arthroplasty research from 2002 to 2021, using bibliometric methods. Methods The Indian publications as listed in the Scopus database were identified by using "Arthroplasty" or "Joint Replacement" in the keyword ("Key") tag. Results India contributed 872 publications on Arthroplasty research, constituting a 1.36% share of global output, in the last two decades. Knee Arthroplasty accounted for the largest share (52.4%) in India's output, followed by Hip (35.7%) and others. 841 authors from 413 organizations participated unevenly in the research on this topic, with IISc-Bangalore contributing the largest number of publications (97), followed by Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals (46), Breach Candy Hospital, Bombay(40), and PGIMER, Chandigarh(38). R. Malhotra contributed the largest number of publications (55), followed by R. Vaishya (35 papers) and G.M. Shetty (23 papers). S. Bhan (31.0 and 3.17), A.B. Mullaji (30,13 and 3.08), N.P. Jain (25.75 and 2.63) and H.Pandit (21.88 and 2.24) registered the highest CPP & RCI. The journals which published the highest number of Arthroplasty articles were the Journal of Arthroplasty (123), followed by the Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics & Trauma (50) and International Orthopaedics (32). Conclusion India's contribution in the field of Arthroplasty-related publication is still low on a global platform, however, has shown a positive and increasing trend in the last two decades. The maximum publications were related to knee and hip arthroplasty and were from institutions in the major Indian cities of Delhi and Mumbai. More international and multicentric collaboration and external funding may help improve the number of arthroplasty publications in the future.

Abstract
Background Hip resurfacing arthroplasty is an accepted treatment option for young patients presenting with osteoarthritis of the hip. The purpose of this review was to evaluate and identify the top 50 most-cited articles pertaining to hip resurfacing, to help clinicians identify influential articles and navigate the literature more effectively. Material and methods Clarivate Analytics Web of Science was used to identify all articles related to hip resurfacing. The screening was based on the number of citations for each article. The final list of articles was further reviewed, and further data including manuscript title, authors, total citation count, year of publication, journal, country of origin, and level of evidence were extracted. Results The most-cited publication was “Pseudotumors associated with metal-on-metal hip resurfacings”, which was cited 704 times. The average total number of citations per publication was 203. The most prolific publication year was 2008 with 8 publications, and the most recent article was published in 2012. The journals with the most attributable publications were Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and Clinical and Orthopedic Related Research. Conclusions This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the most-cited articles pertaining to hip resurfacing. Level of evidence III.

Abstract
This study aimed to identify, characterize, and map the important attributes of the top 100 most cited papers on BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. The scientific literature on BRCA1 and BRCA2 was searched in the Web of Science Core Collection database using the keywords "BRCA1" OR "BRCA2" (Title). The top 100 most cited papers were selected based on citations. The obtained data were exported into HistCiteTM, RStudio, and VOSviewer software for prerequisite analysis. The top 100 most cited papers on BRCA1 and BRCA2 were authored by 932 authors from 24 countries and published in 27 journals. These papers were cited 79,713 times, ranging from 441 to 4671 citations. The highly cited paper was cited 4671 times and published in Science (1994). The leading author, journal, publication year, institution, and country were Easton DF (n = 16), Nature Genetics (n = 11), 2002 (n = 11), University of Pennsylvania (n = 17), and the USA (n = 76), respectively. The results show that all the top 100 papers were produced in developed countries. The collaboration index among the authors was 9.49. The most frequently appeared keywords were ovarian-cancer, breast-cancer, mutations, gene, and familial breast. In recent times, the trend topics were patients, mutations, carriers, ovarian, and risk.

Abstract
Background This study aims to identify the most frequently cited articles published in the Journal of Arthroplasty (JOA) and to analyze the trends in the content and contributors of the literature within the journal. Methods The 100 most cited articles published in the JOA were accessed using the Scopus database. The number of citations, year of publication, level of evidence (LOE), article type, country of origin, and contributing institution were each recorded for each article. Results The United States (63%) was the most prolific publishing nation. The 1990s (30%) and 2000s (47%) were the most productive decades. The most common article category was clinical outcomes (33%), followed by technical note (16%) and biomechanics (14%). The plurality of the top 100 articles were well-designed case-control or cohort studies of LOE II (46%) followed by LOE V (32%) and LOE I (11%). Conclusions Using citation analysis, the most influential articles in the JOA were comprehensively and objectively analyzed. The most popular fields of research involved clinical outcomes (33%) and technical note (16%), both of which increase an article’s likelihood of being highly cited. Knowledge of the most influential articles in the JOA allows for appreciation of current and potential future areas of literature regarding diagnosis, management, and outcome of a patient undergoing arthroplasty.

Abstract
The pandemic led to a significant change in the clinical routine of many orthopaedic surgeons. To observe the impact of the pandemic on scientific output all studies published in the fields of orthopaedics listed in the Web of Science databases were analysed regarding the scientific merit of the years 2019, 2020, and 2021. Subsequently, correlation analyses were performed with parameters of regional pandemic situation (obtained from WHO) and economic strength (obtained from the World Bank). The investigations revealed that the Covid-19 pandemic led to a decrease in the annual publication rate for the first time in 20 years (2020 to 2021: –5.69%). There were regional differences in the publication rate, which correlated significantly with the respective Covid-19 case count (r = –.77, p < 0.01), associated death count (r = –.63, p < 0.01), and the gross domestic product per capita (r = –.40, p < 0.01) but not with the number of vaccinations (r = .09, p = 0.30). Furthermore, there was a drastic decrease in funding from private agencies (relative share: 2019: 36.43%, 2020: 22.66%, 2021: 19.22%), and a balanced decrease in publication output for research areas of acute and elective patient care. The Covid-19 pandemic resulted in a decline in orthopaedic annual publication rates for the first time in 20 years. This reduction was subject to marked regional differences and correlated directly with the pandemic load and was associated with decreased research funding from the private sector.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Vitamin D play a substantial role in immune function, but little is known about its prevention in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). A detail bibliometric analysis of the published scientific literature indexed in Web of Science on vitamin D as a therapeutic option for the COVID-19 patients' treatment is lacking. Thus, the current study was conducted to determine the key bibliometric indices and plot the global research on vitamin D and COVID-19. METHODS The Web of Science Core Collection database was utilized to retrieve publications on vitamin D and COVID-19. A Boolean search strategy was applied and the obtained data were exported to Microsoft Excel to generate relevant graphs. Furthermore, VOSviewer software version 1.6.17 for Windows was used to generate co-authorship countries, bibliographic coupling sources and co-occurrence keyword network visualization mapping. In addition, RStudio and Bibliometric online tool were used to generate WordCloud and thematic map, and intercountries relation map, respectively. RESULTS A total of 818 publications on vitamin D and COVID-19 were included in the final analysis. These publications were cited 10,713 times, with an H-index of 50. The number of publications and citations score from 2020 to November 2021 increased from 317 (2423 citations) to 501 (8290 citations). Delanghe JR and Speeckaert MM were the most prolific authors with 13 publications each. The most productive journal was Nutrients (n = 63). The most studied research area is nutrition dietetics. The most widely used author keywords were COVID-19 (n = 444), Vitamin D (n = 312), and SARS-CoV-2 (n = 190). The National Institute of Health and US Department of Health and Human Services were the leading funding agencies. Harvard University was the most active institution with 25 publications. The United States of America was the highly contributing and influential country in terms of publications (n = 203) and total link strength (n = 185). CONCLUSION It was concluded that an increasing trend in the number of publications on vitamin D and COVID-19 has been observed. Significantly, the majority of the research has been conducted in developed countries. Most importantly, over the time, the direction of research has been changed and the recent trend topics are vitamin D deficiency, risk and infection, and vitamin D supplementation based on KeyWords Plus. The use of vitamin D supplement is one of the promising therapeutic options for COVID-19 treatment. Therefore, the current study not only highlight the global research trends but also provide standard bibliographic information for future studies.

Abstract
Introduction The direct anterior approach (DAA) has garnered a lot of attention and surgical popularity for total hip arthroplasty in recent years. Some of the postulated advantages for the increase in popularity of this approach include better pain control and earlier recovery in the immediate postoperative period. The amount of literature available on this topic has rapidly increased over the last 10 years requiring the need for an updated guide to best navigate the topic. Methods The ISI Web of Knowledge database was used to search for research articles regarding the DAA surgical technique. The Boolean operative that yielded the largest search results was ([direct anterior approach hip] OR [anterior hip] OR [anterior hip arthroplasty] NOT [spine]). Results 92% of the highest cited articles on the DAA were published within the past two decades. One author, Keggi K, published 4 or more articles, with the highest citation average (110.5 citations). Recent articles were more strongly correlated with higher citation counts (R2 = 0.21 v. 0.19). Conclusion This review clearly outlines the increasing trend in the most influential publications regarding DAA being published in the past two decades. This review allows interested surgeons to understand the historic literature pertaining to this topic. This review can assist future researchers in identifying trends in UKA as well as help clinicians navigate this body of literature.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the characteristics of the top 100 most-cited articles on keratoconus research. METHODS The Web of Science database was searched to identify papers published from 1950 to 2020. A bibliometric analysis of the top 100 most-cited articles was conducted in the current study. The Kruskal-Wallis test was conducted to test the citation differences between basic research, clinical research, and reviews. The Spearman correlation analysis was used to investigate the association between citations and publication year. The VOSviewer software was used to create networks of co-authorship and keywords map. RESULTS The median values of the number of citations, citations/year since publication, and citations since 2013 were 186.5, 13.90, and 11, respectively. A total of 79% of articles were clinical research. Reviews exhibited a higher value of citations/year since publication and citations since 2013 than basic research (all P < 0.05). The number of publications, total number of citations, citations/year since publication and citations since 2013 on the top 100 most-cited articles list increased with an increase in the publication year in three article types (all P < 0.05). The Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery had the highest number of articles. There were 37 articles from the USA. Rabinowitz, YS was the most-cited author with the greatest total link strength. Extensive collaboration existed among the main core nodes containing "cross-linking," "refractive surgery," and "penetrating keratoplasty." CONCLUSIONS The present study focused on the comprehensive analysis of the top 100 most-cited articles on keratoconus research, providing insight into keratoconus research developments over the past decades.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mechanical failure, power shortage, and inadvertent contamination of the oscillating saw occasionally occurs in actualizing femoral neck osteotomy during total hip arthroplasty (THA); however, no appropriate alternative solution is currently available. This study aimed to introduce a novel osteotomy instrumentation (fretsaw, jig, cable passer hook) as a substitute tool while the oscillating saw was unavailable during THA. METHODS This study included 40 patients (40 hips) who underwent femoral neck osteotomy during primary THA using the new osteotomy instrumentation (n = 20) and the oscillating saw (n = 20). Clinical data and intraoperative findings of all patients were evaluated. RESULTS The mean osteotomy time was 22.3 ± 3.1 s (range, 17-30 s) and 29.4 ± 3.7 s (range, 25-39 s) in the oscillating saw group and in the new osteotomy instrumentation group, respectively (P < 0.001). The Harris Hip Score (HHS) improved in both groups; the mean HSS was 82.3 ± 2.5 and 83.3 ± 3.5 in the oscillating saw group and new osteotomy instrumentation group at 6 months after surgery, respectively (P = 0.297). CONCLUSIONS The original osteotomy instrumentation can be an ideal substitute tool for femoral neck osteotomy in THA, especially when the oscillating saw is unavailable or malfunctioning.

Abstract
Background Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a common disabling disease with considerable social and economic impacts. Although extensive studies related to ONFH have been conducted in recent years, a specific bibliometric analysis on this topic has not yet been performed. Our study attempted to summarize the comprehensive knowledge map, development landscape, and future directions of ONFH research with the bibliometric approach. Methods All publications concerning ONFH published from 2001 to 2020 were identified from Web of Science Core Collection. Key bibliometric indicators were calculated and evaluated using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the online bibliometric analysis platform. Results A total of 2594 publications were included. Our analysis revealed a significant exponential growth trend in the annual number of publications over the past 20 years (R2 = 0.9663). China, the USA, and Japan were the major contributors both from the quality and quantity points of view. Correlation analysis indicated that there was a high positive correlation between the number of publications and gross domestic product (r = 0.774), and a moderate positive correlation between publications and demographic factor (r = 0.673). All keywords were categorized into four clusters including Cluster 1 (etiology and risk factors study); Cluster 2 (basic research and stem cell therapy); cluster 3 (hip-preserving study); and Cluster 4 (hip replacement study). Stem cell therapy-related research has been recognized as an important research hotspot in this field. Several topics including exosomes, autophagy, biomarkers, osteogenic differentiation, microRNAs, steroid-induced osteonecrosis, mesenchymal stem cells, double-blind, early-stage osteonecrosis, and asymptomatic osteonecrosis were considered as research focuses in the near future. Conclusion Over the past two decades, increasing attention has been paid to global ONFH-related research. Our bibliometric findings provide valuable information for researchers to understand the basic knowledge structure, identify the current research hotspots, potential collaborators, and future research frontiers in this field.

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to recognize the highest 50 most-mentioned articles in the literature concentrating on bone grafts. That has been accomplished with the use of the Scopus database and the search slogan "bone grafts," and we inquired for the 50 most-cited articles on bone grafting. The study was completed in September 2020. We investigated the articles issued between 1970 and 2020. The articles were organized and classified based on the total number of citations. We appraised the following information relating to each article: first author, year of publication, journal, and title. A total of 1,580 studies matched our search standards, of which the 50 most-cited extended between 1,862 and 403 citations. Seven articles were cited more than 1,000 times. The article by Marx et al. was the maximum-cited article, with 1,862 citations, followed by Younger et al.'s with 1,461 and Giannoudis et al.'s with 1,245. The majority of the studies originated from the United States (n = 30) and were published in the 2000s. Biomaterials was the most regular destination journal (n = 8), followed by the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery American series (n = 7). A maximum of the articles focused on the different types of bone grafts and their alternatives including bone tissue engineering (n=29). Our investigation of the highest 50 articles linking to bone grafting has emphasized the most significant papers in the field. These cover a wide-ranging variety of topics including types, management, and mechanism of action of bone grafts. To recognize the present treatment guidelines and how the use of bone grafting has grown, it is vital to know the most-cited articles relating to this grafting.

Abstract
Aim We performed a bibliometric analysis of top 100 systematic reviews (SR) and meta-analyses (MA) in orthopaedic literature and also evaluated articles with maximum average citation per year, which were unable to make up in the present top 100 cited list, but may have a promising future in the world of citations. Methods This bibliometric study was performed by searching Web of Science database according to a specific search strategy by two independent authors according to eligibility criteria of the studies. Articles with more than 100 citations were eligible for analysis and were evaluated for following parameters: number of citations, journal name, publication date and year, first author, the total number of authors, average citations per year, methodological design of the study, geographic origin and institute associated. Inter-rater reliability was evaluated using Kappa coefficient. Results The number of citations ranged from 1073 to 198 with a total citation count of 30,589. Inter-rater reliability came to out in the good agreement (Kappa value-0.8). There was visible up-gradation of the research from the 2000 year till today. Spine journal had the maximum articles (26) followed by Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery-America (12 articles). The topics "Spine" and "Sports Medicine" were the most frequently cited topics with 41 and 20 articles, respectively. USA has the maximum articles in the top 100 cited SR and MA. Based on the maximum average citations per year, 34 old articles were replaced in the list with the latest articles that have a bright future ahead and can be predicted to be in the top 100 cited SR and MA of Orthopaedics soon. Conclusion This study recognizes those articles that have contributed significantly to the growth of knowledge and influenced clinical practices in orthopaedics. We believe that this will facilitate and encourage researchers and clinicians in their future research. Abstract
BACKGROUND Citation analysis was applied to identify the influential studies in the specific field. More and more literature related to carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) have been published in recent years. To our knowledge, no one has performed a citation analysis of CTS. Thus, our study identified the top 50 influential articles pertaining to CTS and conduct an analysis of their characteristics. METHODS The Web of Science database was used to identify all the articles from 1900 to 2020. We obtained the top 50 articles ranked by citation times, and articles were included and excluded based on the relevance to CTS. Also, we collected the information about journal name, level of evidence, source country and institution, and research type for further analysis. RESULTS The top 50 articles were published between 1959 and 2012. The number of citations ranged from 151 to 1083. The citation density was between 3.23 and 40.27 per year. Muscle Nerve published most articles in CTS research, followed by Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery American Volume. The USA was the leading country, and all the top 5 institutions were from the USA. Katz JN with the highest h-index published most articles. Level III was the most common evidence level. CONCLUSIONS We identified the top 50 cited articles related to CTS. These influential articles might provide researchers with a comprehensive list of the major contribution related to CTS research.

Abstract
Background: Fascioliasis is a zoonotic neglected tropical disease caused by Fasciola hepatica and F. gigantica. In endemic regions, fascioliasis represents a huge problem in livestock production and significantly threatens public health. The present study was performed to assess the key bibliometric indicators, plot the global research outcome, and strive to find the research frontiers and trends in fascioliasis. Methods: A descriptive bibliometric and visualized study was conducted. The data were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. The WoSCC was searched using key terms covering a wide range of synonyms related to the causative agent (Fasciola) and the disease (fascioliasis). The database search was performed for the period from the inception of WoSCC until 3 October 2021. The downloaded data were exported into VOSviewer software version 1.6.17 for Windows to construct co-authorship countries, keywords co-occurrence, bibliographic coupling sources, and citation and documents network visualization. Results: A total of 4165 documents were included in this bibliometric analysis. The included documents were published between the years 1913 and 2021 from 116 countries, mainly from the United States of America (USA) (n = 482, 11.6%). The most prolific year was 2018 (n = 108). The journal that attracted the most publications was Veterinary Parasitology (n = 324), while the most productive author in this area was Rondelaud D (n = 156). In terms of total link strength (TLS), the most influential country was Spain (TLS = 236), followed by the USA (TLS = 178). Conclusion: This study is of value for veterinarians, doctors, and researchers to explore insights into research frontiers and trends in research on fascioliasis. The number of publications on fascioliasis has increased over time. Above 35% of publications have been produced by the USA, France, England, and Spain. "Fasciola hepatica" and "cattle" were the most dominant and widely used keywords. Research collaboration should be established among the researchers from developing countries with developed countries to learn new advancements and effective control strategies for fascioliasis.

Abstract
Bibliometric analysis is a statistical method that attempts to assess articles by their citations, analyzing their frequency and citation pattern, which subsequently gleans direction and guidance for future research. Over the past few years, articles focused on intrauterine adhesions have been published with increasing frequency. Nevertheless, little is known about the properties and qualities of this research, and no current analysis exists that has examined the progress in intrauterine adhesion research. Web of Science Core Collection, BIOSIS Citation Index, and MEDLINE database were searched to identify articles on intrauterine adhesion published from 1950 to October 2020. The 100 most cited articles were chosen to analyze citation count, citation density, authorship, theme, geographic distribution, time-related flux, level of evidence, and network analysis. An overwhelming majority of these 100 articles were published in the 2010s (35%). Citations per article ranged from 30 to 253. Chinese authors published the most papers in the top 100, followed by the USA, France, Israel, and Italy. The most salient study themes included operative hysteroscopy and adjunctive treatments for improving reproductive outcomes. The most common level of evidence was level II, and there was no statistical difference in the number of citations between the levels. The network analysis indicated that hysteroscopy, hysteroscopic adhesiolysis, infertility, and the reproductive outcome had a great degree of centrality in the 2000s and 2010s. In comparison, placental implantation had a great degree of centrality in the 2000s, and stem cell and fibrosis had a great degree of centrality in the 2010s. The value of IUA investigation has been gradually appreciated recently. Hysteroscopic adhesiolysis was continuously explored to achieve better reproductive outcome. Over time, the main focus of research has gradually shifted from complications to postoperative adjuvant treatment. Moreover, breakthrough progress is needed in underlying mechanism and early prevention of IUA.

Abstract
Purpose To objectively identify the 50 most influential studies in knee arthroscopy and provide an analysis of their key characteristics. Methods The Clarivate Analytics Web of Knowledge database was used to gather data and metrics of knee arthroscopy research. The search list was sorted by the number of citations, and articles were included or excluded based on relevance to knee arthroscopy. The information extracted for each article included author name, publication year, country of origin, journal name, article type, and the level of evidence. Results For these 50 studies, the total number of citations was calculated to be 12,168, with an average of 243.4 citations per paper. The most-cited article was cited 1,220 times. The 50 studies included in this analysis were published between 1972 and 2013. All 50 articles were published in English and came from 10 different orthopaedic journals. The United States was responsible for the majority of articles (n = 26); however, many other countries were represented. The most prevalent study designs were case series (n = 20). Conclusions The 50 most influential articles in knee arthroscopy were cited a total of 12,168 times. The study designs most commonly used were case series and cohort studies. This article serves as a reference to direct orthopaedic practitioners to the 50 most influential studies in knee arthroscopy. We hope that these 50 studies and the analysis we provide help health care professionals efficiently assess consensus, trends, and needs within the field. Clinical Relevance This analysis of the 50 most influential studies in knee arthroscopy will provide medical students, residents, fellows, and attending physicians with a comprehensive inventory and citation analysis of the most impactful academic contributions to one of the most important fields within orthopaedic surgery.

Abstract
Background Wnt signaling pathway plays a vital role in the regulation of development. An increasing number of articles about Wnt pathway components have been published. By analyzing these studies’ characteristics and qualities, we aim to reveal the current research focus and emerging trends in Wnt signaling. Methods The databases of Web of Science Core Collection, BIOSIS Citation Index, MEDLINE, etc. were utilized to identify articles on May 23rd, 2020. Wnt signaling pathway-related articles were identified, the 100 most cited articles and articles in the last decade were selected and calculated for citations without self-citation. The subsequent analysis included citation density (citations/article age), time-related flux, authorship, institution, journal, geographic distribution, and theme. Results These articles were published mainly from 2000 to 2009 (62%). Citations per article ranged from 599 to 3,780 with a median number of 880 times. Most studies (66%) came from the United States. Nusse Roel and Clevers Hans (15 and 13 papers) have contributed significantly to the field. The most highlighted study themes were cancer (15%), embryo development (14%), and cytoplasm signal transduction (11%). From 2011 to 2020, interest in emerging subtopics, including osteogenesis, immune, apoptosis, autophagy, microRNA, and cancer stem cell, are rising. Conclusions Cancer, embryo development, stem cell, and signal transduction process still play a major role in the field. With multiple emerging subtopics and investigation on an integrated view of the Wnt signal network, the association of Wnt with diseases was further revealed.

Abstract
Objective To highlight the characteristics of the most highly cited articles and propose the research interests over the past decades in the field of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and labral tear. Methods The ISI Web of Science database (Clarivate Analytics, New York, the United States) was utilized for the identification of articles on 15 December 2020. FAI and labral tear‐related articles (1138 articles) were retrieved, of which the 100 most‐cited articles (top 100) were identified. Subsequent analysis included citation density (citations/article age), authorship, institution, journal, geographic distribution, level of evidence, and theme. Results The number of citations per article ranged from 66 to 1189 with a mean of 163.31. The majority of articles were published in the United States (all articles/top 100 = 655/57) and Switzerland (85/22). University of Bern (n = 10) was the most prolific institution. The journal with the most of articles was Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery. The most prolific coauthor (all articles) or first authors (top 100) was Domb (n = 109) and Philippon (n = 6), respectively. The evidence with the most articles is level IV (n = 41). The top three most popular topics of research article were outcomes of surgery (n = 23), imaging diagnosis (n = 18), and comparison of surgery (n = 8). The top four most prevalent themes of review were labral tears (n = 3), FAI (n = 3), comparison of surgery imaging diagnosis, and outcomes of surgery (both n = 2). Six keywords with the newest average publication year, including FAI syndrome (average publication year = 2019.50), patient‐reported outcomes (2019.43), femoroplasty (2018.60), clinical outcomes (2018.17), borderline dysplasia (2018.00), and capsule (2018.00). Five keywords with the highest average citations, including outcome (average citations = 88.50), alpha angle (58.00), complications (55.86), revision hip arthroscopy (49.00), and systematic review (46.14). Conclusions Outcomes research is the most popular research interest and patient‐reported outcome instruments might be further and widely used in the emerging articles in the near future. The field of FAI and labral tear has shown an obvious trend of development and is steadily evolving. It could be predicted that there will be an increasing number of publications in the following years, with the United States and Switzerland maintaining leadership in this field.

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this bibliometric study was to summarize European orthopedic literature produced by EFORT memberships between 2009 and 2019 and to identify the 100 most cited articles, analyzing the characteristics that made them so interesting for the orthopedic scientific world. Method: A search of the literature was conducted using Clarivate Analytics Web of Science in the subject category “orthopaedics”; then the results were summarized using Web of Science tools. Results: A total of 160.375 articles were found: most of these were produced by England. In particular the most prolific institution was the University of London. Analyzing in detail the 100 most cited publications emerged that most of them were review published in journal with high impact factor (Q1). The University of Oxford was the institution with the greatest number of contributions (13%). The most cited topics were osteoarthritis (24%), followed by orthopedic basic science (22%). Bio-materials was the most common topic by ordering the 100 analyzed articles according to “usage count”, a recent indicator of the level of interest in a specific item. Conclusion: This bibliometric study can be useful to identify topics of interest for future scientific research and to outline the features that make some publications more interesting than others. Abstract
OBJECTIVE A bibliometric analysis was conducted to build an all-inclusive view of the status of research on hepatitis A virus (HAV) for facilitating researchers, health professionals, and policymakers to understand the characteristics of research output in this particular domain. METHODS A comprehensive search was conducted in the Web of Science database. The obtained data were exported into Microsoft Excel 2019, OriginPro 2018 and VOSviewer software for windows. RESULTS From 1985 to 2019, a total of 5,950 studies on HAV were published, with an overall h-index of 105, and 90,350 total citations. The most cited article on HAV was "Classification of chronic viral hepatitis: a need for reassessment" authored by Scheuer in the Journal of Hepatology with a total of 1,121 citations. The most cited article on HAV vaccine was "A controlled trial of a formalin-inactivated hepatitis A vaccine in healthy children" by Werzberger et al. in the New England Journal of Medicine with 401 citations. The most frequent year of publication was 2019 (n = 250). The largest number of studies were funded by the United States Department of Health Human Services (n = 199). The organization with the highest number of publications was the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (n = 228). The United State of America (n = 1,500) was the country with the most publications. 'Vaccine' was the leading journal with 299 publications. CONCLUSIONS The highest numbers of studies were published in developed countries. There is a clear need for interdisciplinary research approaches to evaluate and intervene in HAV endemic areas.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) has been proven to be an effective surgical technique for unilateral compartment osteoarthritis. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the top 100 cited articles in the field of UKA research. METHODS Publications on UKA from 1980 to 2020 in the Web of Science database were retrieved. The characteristics of the top 100 cited articles were analyzed, including information of publications and citations, level of evidence, and research interests. RESULTS The number of publications and citations increased over time. The majority of the highly cited articles were from the Nuffield Orthopedic Centre (Oxford, England) and the Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston, USA). Long-term outcome of UKA and comparison between UKA and TKA gathered most research interests. The most frequently occurring keywords were "survival" and "revision." Since 2012, "life quality" and "robotics" have been used. There was no level I evidence, and most studies provided level IV evidence. CONCLUSION There was a rising trend in publications and citations in the field of UKA research, the majority of them were from a few centers, and were low-level evidence. Most studies focused on the long-term outcomes of UKA; in recent years, patient satisfaction and navigation surgery have become new research trends.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The literature base for endovascular treatment of brain arteriovenous malformations (BAVMs) has grown exponentially in recent decades. Bibliometric analysis has been used to identify impactful articles in other medical specialties. The aim of this citation analysis was to identify and characterize the top 100 most cited articles in the field of endovascular BAVM treatment. METHODS The top-cited papers were identified by searching selected keywords ("endovascular treatment," "interventional treatment," "brain arteriovenous malformation," "emboliz(s)ation") on the Web of Science platform. The top 100 articles were ranked according to their number of citations. Each article was further evaluated to obtain predefined characteristics including citation(s) per year, year of publication, authorship, journal-title and impact factor, article topics, article type, and level of evidence. RESULTS The top 100 most cited articles for endovascular BAVM treatment were published between 1960 and 2014. The total number of citations for these articles ranged from 56 to 471 (median 85.5). Most articles (76%) were published between 1990 and 2009 in three journals (56%), originated in the USA (52%) followed by France (16%). The most common topic related to embolization agents and the majority of articles constituted level IV or V evidence. CONCLUSIONS This study provides a comprehensive overview of the most cited articles in the field of endovascular BAVM treatment. Our analysis recognizes key contributions from authors and institutions in the field and leads to a better understanding of the evidentiary framework for BAVM treatment.

Abstract
Background The concept of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (ACLR) has become widely accepted, gaining increased attention in recent years and resulting in many research achievements in this field. Purpose The aim of this study was to determine which original articles on ACLR have been most influential in this field by identifying and analyzing the characteristics of the 100 most cited articles. Study Design Cross-sectional study. Methods Articles on ACLR were identified via the Thomson ISI Web of Science database on November 30, 2019. The 100 most cited articles were identified based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data extracted from each article for the subsequent analysis included title, date of publication, total citations, average citations per year (ACY), journal name, first author, institutions, themes, level of evidence, and keywords. Results The total number of citations was 29,629. The date of publication ranged from 1975 to 2015. A majority of the articles originated from the United States (58%) and were published in the 1990s (32%) and 2000s (48%). The mean ACY was 18.43 ± 9.51. Of the selected articles, nearly one-half were published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine (42%). The most prolific co-author and first author were Freddie H. Fu (n = 13) and K. Donald Shelbourne (n = 5), respectively. The most productive institution was the University of Pittsburgh (14%). Material comparison (19%) and technique comparison (16%) were the 2 most popular themes. More than one-quarter of articles were level 4 evidence (37%). Moreover, the keywords ACL, ACL reconstruction, ACL rupture, knee joint, knee injuries, and human showed the highest degree of centrality. Conclusion By analyzing the characteristics of articles, this study demonstrated that ACLR is a growing and popular area of research, with the focus of research varying through timeline trends. Studies on anatomic reconstruction and biomechanics might be areas of future trends.

Abstract
Introduction: Every year, millions of children die from preventable causes worldwide. According to World Health Organization, injuries are the leading cause of disability and death among all age groups below 60 years. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the global research outcomes and trends, and some key bibliometric indicators in pediatric trauma. Methods: A descriptive bibliometric analysis study was designed. On June 14, 2021, an electronic search was performed in the Web of Science Core Collection database using the potential searching keywords "Pediatric AND Trauma" in the title field without any limitations. The search was performed using the Boolean search query method. The data were downloaded in plaintext and comma-separated values format. The required graphs were generated using OriginPro 2018. Furthermore, the data were transferred to HistCite™ software for bibliometric analysis. In addition, the obtained data were plotted for network visualization mapping using VOSviewer software version 1.6.15 for windows. Results: A total of 2,269 documents were included in the final analysis. The included documents were authored by 7,894 authors and published in 395 research and academic journals, mainly in the English language (n = 2,222). The main document types were articles (n = 1,276, citations = 18,244), and meeting abstracts (n = 331, citations = 19). Pediatric (n = 2,269) and trauma (n = 2,257) were the most widely used keywords. The most productive year was 2019 (n = 184, citations = 527). The most prolific author was Upperman JS (n = 29, citations = 202). The most attractive journals in pediatric trauma research were The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery (n = 290, citations = 5,199) and the Journal of Pediatric Surgery (n = 256, citations = 5,088). The most active institute was the University of California System (n = 110). The most dominant country was the United States of America (USA) (n = 1,620, citations = 22,983). The USA and Canada had the highest total link strength, 103 and 70, respectively. Conclusion: This study provides a comprehensive overview of research output in pediatric trauma. The USA continues to dominate scientific research and funding in pediatric trauma. Findings of the current study will help the researchers and clinicians to understand the recent achievements and research frontiers. Collaborative research initiative needs to be established between institutions in developed and developing countries and among researchers.

Abstract
Background Bronchoscopy is applied broadly in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary diseases. Over the past few decades, an increasing number of studies about bronchoscopy have been published. However, little is known about their qualities and characteristics. Methods All of the databases in Web of Science (including the Web of Science Core Collection, BIOSIS Citation Index, KCI-Korean Journal Database, MEDLINE, Russian Science Citation Index, and SciELO Citation Index) were utilized to identify articles published from 1990 to 2020. The top 100 most cited articles about bronchoscopy were selected for degree centrality analysis and analyses regarding publication time, total citation number, the citation density, time-related flux, first author, published journal, geographic origin, and research theme. Results The selected articles were published mainly in the 2000s and 1990s. Citations per article ranged from 731 to 196. The leading country was the USA, followed by the United Kingdom. The most frequently studied themes were bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid and biopsy. The degree centrality analysis connoted that “BAL, inflammation, diagnosis” had a high degree of centrality in the 1990s, while “diagnosis, BAL, biopsy, prospective” took centre stage in the 2000s. Conclusions The time, area, and theme distribution of the 100 most cited articles on bronchoscopy have been thoroughly analyzed. It is noticeable that researches based on BAL and endobronchial or transbronchial biopsies currently plays a major role.
