Associations between weight-adjusted waist index and fractures: a population-based study

Associations between the waist-to-height ratio index and migraine: A cross-section study of the NHANES 1999-2004

BACKGROUND

The importance of obesity as a factor that increases the probability of migraine episodes is increasingly acknowledged. Thus, this study aimed to explore the potential correlation between central obesity and migraine, emphasizing the waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) as a key measure in assessing this relationship.

METHODS

This cross-sectional analysis included 13,344 individuals who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999-2004. To investigate the association associations between WHtR and migraine, we utilized refined multivariate logistic regression models, smoothing curve fitting methods, subpopulation analysis, and interactive testing.

RESULTS

Of the 13,344 participants, 2,764 (20.72%) had migraines. A significant positive correlation was observed between the WHtR and migraine incidence in both the partially adjusted model (3.08 [95% CI: 1.92-4.94]) and the crude model (1.95 [95% CI: 1.23-3.08]). The participants in the highest quartile of the WHtR had a 13% greater incidence of migraine than those in the lowest quartile [1.13(0.99,1.28)]. The interaction analysis revealed a statistically significant difference (p<0.01) in this relationship among the subgroups. Notably, the correlation between WHtR and migraine risk was not significant and negative in patients ≥60 years, indicating that obesity has a mitigating role in preventing migraine in this elderly population.

CONCLUSIONS

The incidence of migraine increased concomitantly with increased WHtR. However, central obesity has a protective effect against migraine occurrence in individuals ≥60 years. Thus, our findings underscore the importance of WHtR in migraine prevention and management strategies and highlight its potential as a critical biomarker for mitigating migraine incidence.

The association between weight-adjusted waist circumference index and cardiovascular disease and mortality in patients with diabetes

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a significant health concern, particularly among patients with diabetes. The weight-adjusted waist circumference index (WWI), a novel metric that accounts for central obesity, has shown potential in predicting obesity-related health risks. This study aimed to evaluate the association of WWI with CVD and mortality in patients with diabetes. Utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 1999 to 2020, WWI was calculated by dividing waist circumference (WC) by the square root of body weight. Multivariate logistic regression, multivariate Cox regression and restricted cubic spline curves were used to assess the association between WWI and the prevalence of CVD and mortality in patients with diabetes, subgroup and sensitivity analyses were carried out to delve into the stability of the findings. The predictive performance of WWI was evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC). This study included 8,005 individuals with diabetes. With the increase in WWI values, the risk of developing CVD and the likelihood of mortality progressively rise. The fully adjusted continuous model indicated a 28% higher chance of developing CVD and a 25% higher risk of all-cause mortality for each one-unit increase in WWI. When using the lowest quartile of WWI as the reference category, the highest quartile was linked to an increased risk of CVD (OR 1.66; 95% CI 1.10-2.50, p = 0.015) and all-cause mortality (HR 1.53, 95% CI 1.27-1.83, p < 0.001) among patients with diabetes. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses confirmed that these associations were consistent and stable in most different demographics. The ROC analysis indicated that WWI had a higher predictive capacity for CVD and all-cause mortality than WC, waist to hip ratio, and weight to height ratio. The WWI was significantly associated with the prevalence of CVD and all-cause mortality among patients with diabetes in the United States and may serve as a useful tool for identifying individuals at risk.

Association of obesity with osteoporotic fracture risk in individuals with bone metabolism-related conditions: a cross sectional analysis

Introduction

This study aimed to investigate the individual and composite associations of different indices of obesity on osteoporotic fractures at three different sites among individuals affected by conditions influencing bone metabolism.

Methods

Participants were included from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a national cross-sectional survey. BMI and WC were used separately and in combination to evaluate the presence of obesity. Obesity was defined as BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2, WC ≥ 88 cm in females, and WC ≥ 102 cm in males. Associations between obesity and osteoporotic fractures were assessed using multivariable logistic regression and OR curves. Associations modified by age, sex, race, and alcohol consumption were also evaluated.

Results

A total of 5377 participants were included in this study. In multivariable logistic regression analyses, we found that BMI, WC, BMI defining obesity, and WC defining obesity were negatively associated with hip fracture (all p < 0.05). However, harmful associations between WC and BMI defining obesity and spine fracture were found (all p < 0.05). OR curves revealed that BMI and WC had a linear relationship with hip and spine fractures (all P for non-linearity >0.05). Further analyses showed that the highest WC quartile was harmfully associated with a higher risk of spine fractures (p < 0.05). Obese participants diagnosed by both BMI and WC were less likely to have hip fractures but more likely to have spine fractures (all P for trend <0.05). A significant interaction between age (Ref: age < 50 years) and BMI and WC was detected for hip fractures (all P for interaction <0.05).

Discussion

In people with conditions influencing bone metabolism, obesity diagnosed by BMI and WC was associated with a lower risk of hip fracture, while obesity diagnosed by BMI and the highest WC quartile were associated with a higher risk of spine fracture.

Association of weight-adjusted waist index with hyperuricemia and gout among middle-aged and older adults in America: a cross-sectional analysis of NHANES 2007-2014

OBJECTIVES

The weight-adjusted waist circumference index (WWI), a novel obesity indicator, gives better accuracy in assessing both muscle and fat mass. Our goal was to evaluate the relationship between WWI and the occurrence of hyperuricemia/gout among middle-aged and older adults in America.

METHODS

We analyzed the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data from the 2007-2014 cycles. Logistic regression analyses, subgroup analyses, and restricted cubic splines (RCS) were performed to evaluate the association between WWI and hyperuricemia/gout prevalence.

RESULTS

A total of 5332 adults aged 50 years and above were included in this study. The prevalence of hyperuricemia and gout was 23.20% and 6.70% respectively. The fourth quartile of WWI was associated with a 56% higher risk for hyperuricemia, compared with the first quartile (OR = 1.56, 95% CI 1.07-2.27, P trend < 0.001). A similar association was found between continuous WWI increase and OR of hyperuricemia in the fully adjusted model (OR = 1.35, 95% CI = 1.13-1.61, P < 0.05). However, WWI was not significantly associated with the prevalence of gout. The RCS model suggested a significant linear relationship between WWI and the risk of hyperuricemia/gout. Stratification analysis showed that the positive associations of WWI with the risk of hyperuricemia were more pronounced in participants who were women, aged 50-59, smokers, no physical activity, non-diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.

CONCLUSIONS

Our findings suggest a positive correlation between WWI and hyperuricemia among middle-aged and older adults in America. Employing WWI as a tool for hyperuricemia prevention may be meaningful. The association between weight-adjusted-waist index and psoriasis: A cross-sectional study

INTRODUCTION

This study explored the association between psoriasis and the weight-adjusted waist index (WWI), a newly developed measure of adiposity. The research was conducted among adults in the United States.

METHODS

Utilizing survey data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning the years 2009 to 2014, the present study aimed to investigate the potential correlation between psoriasis and WWI within a sample of 15,920 adult participants. Employing multivariable logistic regression and nonlinear curve fitting techniques, we analyzed this plausible association. Additionally, a subgroup analysis was conducted to ascertain the consistency across diverse populations.

RESULTS

A significant positive association was discovered between psoriasis and WWI in the investigated sample of 15,920 adults. After conducting a comprehensive adjustment of the model, it was observed that each incremental unit of WWI was significantly associated with an 14% elevated likelihood of developing psoriasis (OR = 1.16, 95% CI 1.01-1.36). Moreover, individuals belonging to the highest quartile of WWI exhibited a 47% higher risk of psoriasis compared to those in the lowest quartile (OR = 1.44, 95% CI 1.01-2.06). This positive correlation remained consistent across various subgroups. The study also compared WWI with BMI and waist circumference, finding that WWI is a more stable metric of obesity.

CONCLUSIONS

Our study suggested that in US adults, there is a positive association between WWI and psoriasis. It also indicated that WWI showed potential as a valuable index of psoriasis among the general population.

The association of waist circumference with bone mineral density and risk of osteoporosis in US adult: National health and nutrition examination survey

PURPOSE

Obesity and osteoporosis (OP) are receiving increasing attention. Waist circumference (WC) is an effective indicator for assessing central obesity. Currently, there is controversy regarding the relationship between WC and bone mineral density (BMD), as well as OP. Therefore, our study aims to utilize data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to evaluate the relationship between WC and BMD, as well as OP, in US adults.

METHODS

This cross-sectional study included subjects aged ≥18 years from the NHANES 1999-2018. Multivariate linear regression models were performed to investigate the association between WC and BMD. Multivariate logistic regression models were employed to assess the relationship between WC and OP. Restricted cubic spline curves were used to assess potential nonlinear association between WC and BMD, OP. Subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were performed to assess the robustness of the results.

RESULTS

Finally, 11,165 participants (non-OP, n = 10,465; OP, n = 700) were included in the final analysis. The results showed that WC was positively associated with total femur (TF), femoral neck (FN), and lumbar spine (LS) BMD, and might be a protective factor for OP, independent of traditional confounding factors. For each 1 cm increased in WC, TF BMD, FN BMD and LS BMD increased by 0.004 g/cm2, 0.003 g/cm2 and 0.003 g/cm2, respectively, and the risk of OP decreased by 3.1 %. Furthermore, there was a non-linear relationship between WC and BMD, OP. The association remained robust in sensitivity and subgroup analyses.

CONCLUSION

In US adults, there is a positive association between WC and BMD, and WC may be a protective factor for the risk of OP. The association between WC and BMD as well as OP exhibits a non-linear relationship.

Association between weight-adjusted waist index and risk of diabetes mellitus type 2 in United States adults and the predictive value of obesity indicators

BACKGROUND

The weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) is a quantitative anthropometric index that can be applied to evaluate obesity. This study examined the relationship between adult United States (US) residents' risk of diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM) and WWI.

METHODS

The NHANES (National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) 2001-2018 provided the data for this investigation. This study used multifactorial logistic regression analysis, smoothed curve fitting, subgroup analysis, and interaction tests to assess the association between WWI and T2DM. Additionally, threshold effects were calculated using a two-stage linear regression model. The receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curves evaluated the diagnostic ability of the WWI and commonly used obesity indicators.

RESULTS

20,477 participants were enrolled in the analysis, and patients with greater levels of WWI had a higher prevalence of T2DM. WWI and T2DM have a non-linear relationship, with a positive association found on the left side of the breakpoint (WWI = 12.35) (OR = 1.82, 95%CI:1.64-2.02), whereas, on the right side, no such relationship was found (OR = 0.9, 95%CI:0.61-1.34). For every unit rise in WWI, the probability of having T2DM increased by 67% after controlling for all other variables (OR:1.67,95%CI:1.53-1.83). Based on subgroup analyses, individuals under 40 had a higher correlation between WWI and T2DM (P < 0.001).ROC analyses showed that WWI had the best discrimination and accuracy in predicting T2DM compared to other obesity indicators (WC, BMI, and Weight).

CONCLUSION

Higher WWI values had a higher prevalence of T2DM in US individuals, especially in adults under 40. WWI has the strongest ability to predict T2DM. Therefore, the importance of WWI in the early identification of T2DM in US adults should be emphasized.

Association between weight-adjusted waist index and bone mineral density in adolescents

The negative effects of obesity and excess body fat on bone mineral density (BMD) have been widely reported. As opposed to waist circumference (WC) or body mass index (BMI), weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) is a superior method for assessing obesity. WWI also indicates centripetal obesity independently of the weight of the individual. An investigation of WWI and adolescents' BMD was conducted in this study. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2018 provided the data for this cross-sectional investigation. In this study, weighted multivariate logit models were employed to assess the correlation between teenage BMD and WWI. Additionally, we conducted interaction tests and subgroup analysis. Through multivariate linear regression, we discovered that WWI was negatively linked with lumbar, trunk, and total BMD but not pelvis BMD in this study, which included 6828 subjects. We found that each unit increase in WWI resulted in a lumbar BMD decline of 0.04 g/cm2 (95%CI -0.04, -0.04), a trunk BMD decrease of 0.03 g/cm2 (95%CI -0.03, -0.02), and a total BMD decrease of 0.02 g/cm2 (95%CI -0.02, -0.02). In conclusion, in US teenagers, there were negative connections discovered between WWI and lumbar, trunk, and total BMD, but not pelvis BMD.

J-Shaped Relationship Between Weight-Adjusted-Waist Index and Cardiovascular Disease Risk in Hypertensive Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Cohort Study

Background

A newly introduced obesity-related index, the weight-adjusted-waist index (WWI), emerges as a promising predictor of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Given the known synergistic effects of hypertension and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) on cardiovascular risk, we aimed to explore the relationship between the WWI and CVD risk specifically within this high-risk cohort.

Methods

A total of 2265 participants with hypertension and OSA were included in the study. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for CVD events. The restricted cubic spline (RCS) was used to further evaluate the nonlinear dose-response relationship.

Results

During a median follow-up period of 6.8 years, 324 participants experienced a CVD event. Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that compared to the reference group, the HRs for the second, third, and fourth groups were 1.12 (95% CI, 0.79-1.59), 1.35 (95% CI, 0.96-1.89), and 1.58 (95% CI, 1.13-2.22), respectively. Moreover, RCS analysis illustrated a clear J-shaped relationship between the WWI and CVD risk, particularly notable when WWI exceeded 11.5 cm/√kg, signifying a significant increase in CVD risk.

Conclusion

There was a J-shaped relationship between WWI and CVD in hypertensive patients with OSA, especially when the WWI was greater than 11.5 cm/√kg, the risk of CVD was significantly increased.

Obesity and lipid metabolism in the development of osteoporosis (Review)

Osteoporosis is a common bone metabolic disease that causes a heavy social burden and seriously threatens life. Improving osteogenic capacity is necessary to correct bone mass loss in the treatment of osteoporosis. Osteoblasts are derived from the differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, a process that opposes adipogenic differentiation. The peroxisome proliferator‑activated receptor γ and Wnt/β‑catenin signaling pathways mediate the mutual regulation of osteogenesis and adipogenesis. Lipid substances play an important role in the occurrence and development of osteoporosis. The content and proportion of lipids modulate the activity of immunocytes, mainly macrophages, and the secretion of inflammatory factors, such as IL‑1, IL‑6 and TNF‑α. These inflammatory effectors increase the activity and promote the differentiation of osteoclasts, which leads to bone imbalance and stronger bone resorption. Obesity also decreases the activity of antioxidases and leads to oxidative stress, thereby inhibiting osteogenesis. The present review starts by examining the bidirectional differentiation of BM‑MSCs, describes in detail the mechanism by which lipids affect bone metabolism, and discusses the regulatory role of inflammation and oxidative stress in this process. The review concludes that a reasonable adjustment of the content and proportion of lipids, and the alleviation of inflammatory storms and oxidative damage induced by lipid imbalances, will improve bone mass and treat osteoporosis.

Association between weight-adjusted-waist index and depression in US adults: A cross-sectional study

BACKGROUND

Current evidence implicates a significant association between depression and obesity and related metabolic dysfunction. The weight-adjusted-waist index (WWI) was recently identified as an ideal index that integrates total body fat, muscle mass, and bone mass. This study investigated the relationship between WWI and depressive symptoms in adults.

METHODS

Participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2005-2018) were enrolled. Depressive symptom severity was measured with the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Survey-weighted multivariable logistic regression, subgroup analysis, and generalized additive models were used to determine the relationship between WWI and depressive symptoms.

RESULTS

A total of 34,575 participants were included, with a mean WWI of 11.01; 2,979 participants were suspected of having depressive symptoms (PHQ-9 score ≥ 10). A significant positive association was identified between WWI and depressive symptoms (odds ratio = 1.416, 95 % confidence interval: 1.303-1.539, P < 0.0001). Subgroup analyses suggested that the association between WWI and depressive symptoms was stronger in individuals who were female, overweight, divorced, middle-aged or older (over 40 years old), and had diabetes. Furthermore, the non-linear multivariable regression revealed an inflection point for the WWI at 11.438, and the association was only significant when the WWI was higher than this point.

LIMITATIONS

This study was retrospective and only included participants from the United States; therefore, further validation is needed from studies in other countries, especially middle-to-low-income countries, using longitudinal cohorts.

CONCLUSIONS

This study identified a significant positive association between WWI and depressive symptoms.

Assessment of the appropriate cutoff points for anthropometric indices and their relationship with cardio-metabolic indices to predict the risk of metabolic associated fatty liver disease

BACKGROUND

Research on Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD) is still in its early stages, with few studies available to identify and predict effective indicators of this disease. On the other hand, early diagnosis and intervention are crucial to reduce the burden of MAFLD. Therefore, the aim of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of eleven anthropometric indices and their appropriate cut-off values as a non-invasive method to predict and diagnose MAFLD in the Iranian population.

METHODS

In this cross-sectional study, we analyzed baseline data from the Hoveyzeh Cohort Study, a prospective population-based study conducted in Iran that enrolled a total of 7836 subjects aged 35 to 70 years from May 2016 through August 2018.

RESULTS

The optimal cut-off values of anthropometric indices for predicting MAFLD risk were determined for waist circumference(WC) (102.25 cm for males and 101.45 cm for females), body mass index (BMI) (27.80 kg/m2 for males and 28.75 kg/m2 for females), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) (0.96 for both males and females), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) (0.56 for males and 0.63 for females), body adiposity index (BAI) (23.24 for males and 32.97 for females), visceral adiposity index (VAI) (1.64 for males and 1.88 for females), weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) (10.63 for males and 11.71 for females), conicity index (CI) (1.29 for males and 1.36 for females), body roundness index (BRI) (4.52 for males and 6.45 for females), relative fat mass (RFM) (28.18 for males and 44.91 for females) and abdominal volume index (AVI) (18.85 for males and for 21.37 females). VAI in males (sensitivity: 77%, specificity: 60%, Youden's Index: 0.37) and RFM in females (sensitivity: 76%, specificity: 59%, Youden's Index: 0.35) were found to have higher sensitivity and specificity compared to other anthropometric indices. Furthermore, anthropometric indices demonstrated statistically significant correlations with various hepatic and cardiometabolic indices. Among these, the strongest positive correlations were observed between WC, BMI, BAI, BRI, and AVI with the Hepatic Steatosis Index (HSI), TyG-BMI, and TyG-WC, as well as between VAI and the Atherogenic Index of Plasma (AIP), Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP), Cardiometabolic Index (CMI), and the Triglyceride and Glucose (TyG) Index.

CONCLUSION

Anthropometric indices are effective in predicting MAFLD risk among Iranian adults, with WWI, VAI, and RFM identified as the strongest predictors. The proposed cutoff values could serve as a straightforward and non-invasive methods for the early diagnosis of MAFLD.

Association between Weight-Adjusted Waist Index and depressive symptoms: A nationally representative cross-sectional study from NHANES 2005 to 2018

BACKGROUND

Depressive symptoms are strongly associated with the development of various diseases and are one of the leading causes of disability in the world. However, the relationship between weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) and depressive symptoms has not been studied. This study aimed to assess the relationship between depressive symptoms and WWI.

METHODS

This study took NHANES data from 2005 to 2018 with 32,374 participants. Depressive symptoms were measured by a questionnaire (PHQ-9).WWI was determined by dividing the square root of waist circumference (cm) by weight (kg). Multivariate logistic regression models, smoothed curve fitting, and weighted generalized additive model (GAM) regression were used to examine the relationship between depressive symptoms and WWI, BMI, and waist circumference. Subgroup analyses and interaction tests were also performed.

RESULTS

In fully adjusted models, the OR (95 % CI) for WWI and depressive symptoms with WWI, BMI, and waist circumference were 1.18 (1.05, 1.34), BMI 1.01 (1.00, 1.02, 1.01 (1.00, 1.01), respectively. Participants in the highest quartile (Q4) had a 49 % higher depressive symptoms compared to those in the lowest quartile (Q1) (OR = 1.49, 95 % CI:1.14-1.96). Subgroup analyses and interaction tests showed a stable relationship between depressive symptoms and WWI.

LIMITATIONS

It is difficult to determine a causal relationship between the two; questionnaire collection may be somewhat biased; CONCLUSIONS: WWI was positively associated with depressive symptoms. This association was stronger than BMI and waist circumference. However, this relationship was stable. This study emphasizes the potential utility of WWI in preventing depressive symptoms and improving prognosis in the population.

Association between the weight-adjusted waist index and the odds of type 2 diabetes mellitus in United States adults: a cross-sectional study

Objective

To examine the association between the weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) and the odds of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)among U.S. adults.

Methods

Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning six years (2007-2018) were utilized, encompassing 31001 eligible participants. Weighted multivariate logistic regression models and smoothed fit curves were employed to assess the association between WWI and the odds of T2DM, as well as dose-response relationships in the overall population and the odds of T2DM in various subgroups.

Results

In the fully adjusted continuous model, each one-unit increase in WWI was associated with a 1.14-fold increase in the odds of T2DM within the entire study population (2.14 [1.98,2.31], P < 0.0001). In the fully adjusted categorical model, when using the lowest tertile of WWI (T1) as the reference group, the second tertile (T2) and the third tertile (T3) were associated with a 0.88-fold (1.88 [1.64,2.17], P < 0.0001) and a 2.63-fold (3.63 [3.11,4.23], P < 0.0001) increase in the odds of T2DM. These findings indicated a positive correlation between WWI values and the odds of T2DM, aligning with the results of the smoothed-fitted curves. In the analysis of subgroups, in addition to maintaining consistency with the overall population results, we found interactions between age and hypertension subgroups.

Conclusion

In conclusion, WWI was found to be positively associated with the odds of T2DM in U.S. adults.

The association between weight-adjusted-waist index and self-reported infertility among women of reproductive age in the United States

AIM

This study aimed to determine whether the weight-adjusted-waist index (WWI) affected infertility in women of childbearing age in the United States.

METHODS

In this study, a database from the 2013 to 2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) was used. We analyzed 3374 participants' data cross-sectionally. The survey used WWI and fertility status as independent and dependent variables. To determine the effect of WWI, an analysis of the independent relationship between WWI and infertility was conducted using weighted multivariable logistic regression and a generalized additive mode (GAM). A smooth curve fitting test was used to calculate whether there was a linear association between WWI and the incidence rate of infertility, as well as subgroup analyses and interaction tests.

RESULTS

The prevalence of infertility was 10.19% among 3374 participants. Higher WWI quartiles were associated with higher infertility rates. Based on a fully adjusted model, the effects of WWI on fertility were positive (odds ratio = 1.39, 95% confidence interval: 1.17-1.66). As a result of smooth curve fitting, the association was linear across the entire WWI. Different characteristics were associated with different risks of infertility in subgroup analysis.

CONCLUSION

Among women of reproductive age in the United States, WWI levels were positively associated with infertility. This relationship needs to be confirmed by further studies.

Association between the weight-adjusted waist index and stroke: a cross-sectional study

BACKGROUND

The weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) is a new measure of obesity, and this study aimed to determine the association between the WWI and stroke.

METHODS

Using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2020 dataset, cross-sectional data from 23,389 participants were analysed. The correlation between the WWI and stroke was investigated through multivariate logistic regression and smoothing curve fitting. Subgroup analysis and interaction tests were also carried out.

RESULTS

The research involved 23,389 participants, of whom 893 (3.82%) had a stroke. The fully adjusted model revealed a positive correlation between the WWI and stroke [1.25 (1.05, 1.48)]. Individuals who were in the highest quartile of WWI exhibited a 62% higher likelihood of experiencing a stroke than those in the lowest quartile [1.62 (1.06, 2.48)]. Subgroup analysis and interaction tests revealed that this positive correlation was similar in different population settings (all P for interaction  > 0.05).

CONCLUSION

A higher WWI was associated with a higher prevalence of stroke. The results of this study underscore the value of the WWI in stroke prevention and management.
