Abstract
Children between the ages of one and 18 are at a heightened risk of death and impairment due to traumatic brain injury (TBI). TBI can be deadly and is usually categorized as mild, moderate, or severe according to the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). For individuals with a TBI and an abnormal GCS, the preferred modality is non-contrast CT of the head. This review focuses on the medical treatment and rehabilitation of children with TBI and their outcomes. This was searched in databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and EMBASE. The literature search criteria included "traumatic brain injury AND physiotherapy rehabilitation OR medical treatment," with additional filters applied, including full text, both male and female, ages below 18 years, and publications from 2012 to 2024. This study conducted research on the treatment and rehabilitation of children with TBI. Ten randomized clinical trials, non-randomized trials, and longitudinal cohort study randomized trials met the inclusion criteria, which include hyperbaric oxygen therapy, melatonin, nabiximols, psycho-educational intervention, online therapy, the virtual reality rehabilitation program, and conventional occupational therapy. The results show significant improvement in forearm supination, performance in daily living, quality of life, reduced anger, improved school functioning, improvement in TBI conditions, reduced hospital stay, activity facilitating recovery, and reduced prolonged symptoms. This review has addressed the effectiveness of various medical management and rehabilitation strategies, which are important in TBI and aim to mitigate post-traumatic/concussion impact and improve quality of life. Articles regarding children's TBI rehabilitation are comparatively few. One possible solution to this issue would be to encourage further rehabilitation intervention trials.

Abstract
Violence against children can cause psychological problems such as post-traumatic syndrome disorder (PTSD). The negative impact of violence on children is psychological and physical problems and risk of suicide. Nurses have a role to provide comprehensive nursing care such as cognitive behavior therapy for reducing PTSD symptoms. The purpose of this study was to describe the methods of cognitive behavior therapy to reduce symptoms of PTSD in children who are victims of violence. This study used the scoping review method. The databases use for the literature review in this study were CINAHL, PubMed, and Scopus. The keywords used in English were "cognitive behavioral therapy OR CBT" AND "violence OR abuse" AND "post-traumatic stress disorder OR PTSD" AND "child OR children". The inclusion criteria were full text, randomized control trial or quasi-experimental research design, English language, the sample was children, and the publication period was for the last 10 years (2013-2022). We found 10 articles discussing CBT intervention on children who experienced victim abuse to reduce symptoms of PTSD. Most of the articles in this study used randomized control trial design. Several samples in this study are from the USA. The total sample was 47-320 respondents. This study showed three methods of CBT, namely psychoeducation, self-management, and coping strategies. CBT interventions can be carried out face-to-face or online. The activities carried out by the participants were relaxing, participating in training, counseling, problem-solving discussions, and therapy to improve sleep quality. Cognitive behavioral therapy is an intervention that can be carried out to reduce the traumatic impact on child victims of violence by taking into account the characteristics and development of the children.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The introduction of developmentally adapted criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has improved the identification of ≤6-year-old children with clinical needs. Across two studies, we assess predictors of the development of PTSD in young children (PTSD-YC), including the adult-led acute stress disorder (ASD) diagnosis, and provide proof of principle for cognitive-focused therapy for this age range, with the aim of increasing treatment options for children diagnosed with PTSD-YC. METHOD Study 1 (N = 105) assessed ASD and PTSD-YC diagnosis in 3- to 8-year-old children within one month and at around three months following attendance at an emergency room. Study 2 (N = 37) was a preregistered (www.isrctn.com/ISRCTN35018680) randomized controlled early-phase trial comparing CBT-3M, a cognitive-focused intervention, to treatment-as-usual (TAU) delivered within the UK NHS to 3- to 8-year-olds diagnosed with PTSD-YC. RESULTS In Study 1, the ASD diagnosis failed to identify any young children. In contrast, prevalence of acute PTSD-YC (minus the duration requirement) was 8.6% in the first month post-trauma and 10.1% at 3 months. Length of hospital stay, but no other demographic or trauma-related characteristics, predicted development of later PTSD-YC. Early (within one month) diagnosis of acute PTSD-YC had a positive predictive value of 50% for later PTSD-YC. In Study 2, most children lost their PTSD-YC diagnosis following completion of CBT-3M (84.6%) relative to TAU (6.7%) and CBT-3M was acceptable to recipient families. Effect sizes were also in favor of CBT-3M for secondary outcome measures. CONCLUSIONS The ASD diagnosis is not fit for purpose in this age-group. There was a strong and encouraging signal of putative efficacy for young children treated using a cognitive-focused treatment for PTSD, and a larger trial of CBT-3M is now warranted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating condition that when left untreated can have severe lifelong consequences for psychological, social, and occupational functioning. Initial conceptualizations of PTSD were centered on adult presentations. However, the instantiation of developmentally appropriate PTSD in young children (PTSD-YC) criteria, tailored to preschool (6 years old and younger) children, represents an important step toward identifying more young children experiencing distress. This study explored population-level prevalence of PTSD-YC indexed via an alternative algorithm for DSM-IV PTSD (AA-PTSD). METHOD Representative population data were used to test whether application of AA-PTSD criteria, relative to the DSM-IV PTSD algorithm, increased identification of 5- to 6-year-old children with clinical needs in both the general population (n = 3,202) and among looked after children (ie, in Britain, foster children are called looked after children [more commonly referred to as children in care].) (n = 137), in whom the risk of mental health issues is greater. RESULTS Notably, no 5- to 6-year-old children in the general population sample were diagnosed with PTSD using adult-based DSM-IV criteria. In contrast, AA-PTSD prevalence was 0.4% overall, rising to 5.4% in trauma-exposed children. In looked after children, overall PTSD prevalence rose from 1.2% when applying adult-based DSM-IV criteria to 14% when using AA-PTSD criteria. Of trauma-exposed looked after children, 2.7% met criteria for DSM-IV PTSD compared with 57.0% when applying AA-PTSD criteria. In both samples, use of the alternative algorithm to index PTSD-YC criteria markedly increased identification of children experiencing functional impairment owing to symptoms. CONCLUSION Results demonstrate the utility of the PTSD-YC diagnosis beyond at-risk and treatment-seeking samples. Use of PTSD-YC criteria substantially improves identification of 5- to 6-year-old children burdened by PTSD at the population level.

Abstract
Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is one of the most widely studied and disseminated treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other comorbid conditions, and has been identified as a "level one" or "well-established" intervention for school-aged children and adolescents. The present systematic review examined the literature on the application of TF-CBT within a preschool-aged population (i.e., children ages three to six), as well as the developmental literature that could increase the efficacy of TF-CBT for preschool-aged children. Information on the use of TF-CBT with preschool-aged children was extracted from randomized controlled trials, case studies, meta-analyses, and other forms of empirical evidence, as part of the evidence-based practice in psychology framework. In comparison to research with school-aged children and adolescents, fewer studies have directly assessed the efficacy of TF-CBT for preschool-aged children who have been exposed to trauma. Given the few studies published to date and difference in treatment protocols for TF-CBT used with preschool-age children, TF-CBT appears to meet criteria as a "level two" or "probably efficacious" intervention for preschool-aged children specifically. According to the available literature, language and cognitive abilities, family context, culture, and clinician expertise are considered as potential variables to address when contemplating the use of TF-CBT for preschool-aged children with symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Evaluate the effectiveness of the Eyes Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing psychotherapy for children with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted in the Child Psychiatry Department of CHU Mongi Slim, Marsa (Tunis, Tunisia). All Outpatients with a Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder diagnosis and who had Eyes Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing psychotherapy during the period from July 2016 to May 2018 were included. They were evaluated according to DSM 5 criteria in pre and post therapy. RESULTS The sample consisted of sixteen children with a sex-ratio of 1.6. Their age ranged from 3 to 17 years old with a mean age of 9.5±4.6 years. Five patients were less than six years old. Our patients were exposed to a sexual assault (4 cases), a death of a family member (3 cases), a road accident (3 cases), a physical assault (4 cases), an arrest of the father (1 case) and burglary of the house (1 case). In 15 cases, the traumatic event was unique while it was repeated in one sexual assault case. The total number of follow-up sessions ranged from one to seven sessions with an average of 3±2.4 sessions. The average number of sessions for preschool children was 2.6±0.5 sessions. Bilateral tactile stimulations were used with thirteen children in our population, including the five children younger than six years old. At the end of the therapy all patients no longer met the criteria for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder diagnosis. All the preschool patients and eight children older than 6 years did not respond to any of the four Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder criteria. The difference between the scores of the DSM 5 criteria in pre and post EMDR was statistically significant. We found P=10-3 for children over six years and P<0.05 for children under six years old. CONCLUSION Eyes Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a therapy that has several advantages. First, it is effective in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in children. Second, its protocol is flexible and adaptable to all ages and developmental level of the child. Third, the number of sessions is usually reduced, which is a great advantage over other trauma-focused psychotherapies.

Abstract
We provide an integrative review of non-pharmacological interventions for children with mental health problems. A total of 262 studies were found in three databases, of which 12 met the inclusion criteria, indicating a shortage of research on the subject. The most frequently used type of intervention was cognitive-behavioural therapy-based interventions, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder was the most frequent problem. Non-pharmacological interventions help to improve the symptoms of childhood mental health problems, so there is a need to carry out further research on this issue in Brazil and the rest of Latin America.

Abstract
Important advances in understanding traumatic stress reactions in children and young people have been made in recent years. The aim of this review was to synthesise selected recent research findings, with a focus on their relevance to clinical practice. We therefore address: findings on the epidemiology of trauma exposure and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); recent changes to diagnostic classification; implications for screening and assessment of traumatic stress reactions; and treatment outcome studies including interventions for acute and chronic PTSD, dissemination of effective treatments into community settings, and early interventions. We conclude with recommendations for clinical practice and suggestions for future areas of research.

Abstract
Background: Following a child's experience of trauma, parental response is thought to play an important role in either facilitating or hindering their psychological adjustment. However, the ability to investigate the role of parenting responses in the post-trauma period has been hampered by a lack of valid and reliable measures. Objectives: The aim of this study was to design, and provide a preliminary validation of, the Parent Trauma Response Questionnaire (PTRQ), a self-report measure of parental appraisals and support for children's coping, in the aftermath of child trauma. Methods: We administered an initial set of 78 items to 365 parents whose children, aged 2-19 years, had experienced a traumatic event. We conducted principal axis factoring and then assessed the validity of the reduced measure against a standardized general measure of parental overprotection and via the measure's association with child post-trauma mental health. Results: Factor analysis generated three factors assessing parental maladaptive appraisals: (i) permanent change/damage, (ii) preoccupation with child's vulnerability, and (iii) self-blame. In addition, five factors were identified that assess parental support for child coping: (i) behavioural avoidance, (ii) cognitive avoidance, (iii) overprotection, (iv) maintaining pre-trauma routines, and (v) approach coping. Good validity was evidenced against the measure of parental overprotection and child post-traumatic stress symptoms. Good test-retest reliability of the measure was also demonstrated. Conclusions: The PTRQ is a valid and reliable self-report assessment of parenting cognitions and coping in the aftermath of child trauma.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW The goal of this paper is to review the research literature regarding the needs of preschoolers in the context of disasters and terrorism with the aim of understanding the existing methods for assessment, prevention, and intervention to provide recommendations and point out required research and development. RECENT FINDINGS We differentiate between screening tools that provide initial evaluation and assessment tools for diagnosing preschooler children's pathology and review possible interventions that address the preschool child's needs before, during, and after the incident itself. We also emphasize the lack of dissemination and research of prevention programs and mass interventions for preschoolers. Programs for community mass prevention and intervention for preschoolers should be developed and evaluated and interventions should be adapted for individual and group delivery. Moreover, the increase in the number of children refugees requires cultural adaptations of assessment measures and interventions.

Abstract
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a clinical condition that occurs after a discrete traumatic event, such as an accident or assault. Research into PTSD has primarily been adult-focused; however, there is a growing body of evidence evaluating the theory and treatment of PTSD in young children. Consequently, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) interventions for PTSD in youth have been developed that focus on 3 core components of the cognitive model-a disorganized memory of the trauma, maladaptive appraisals of the trauma and its effects (meanings), and dysfunctional coping mechanisms (management). Here, we describe the extension of this treatment approach (termed CBT-3M) to very young children (3-8 years) through the case of Dylan, an 8-year-old motor vehicle accident survivor. This serves as an illustration of the underlying theory and its successful application. Further work is intended to provide evidence of the efficacy of this treatment via an ongoing treatment trial.
