Abstract
BACKGROUND Nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is the most common cancer worldwide and is frequently treated with Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS); however, data regarding characteristics of Hispanic patients undergoing MMS for NMSC are limited. OBJECTIVE To review the characteristics of Hispanic patients undergoing MMS for NMSC in the United States. METHODS A systematic review of PubMed articles from inception through September 2022 providing data for Hispanic patients undergoing MMS for NMSC was completed. RESULTS Overall, six publications met inclusion criteria and provided data for 2,856 Hispanic patients that underwent MMS for 2,955 NMSCs. Results demonstrate 60% of Hispanic patients were male, and the majority of NMSCs were basal cell carcinoma (BCC) (71%), followed by squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) (21%). Additionally, a larger percentage of pigmented BCC was found in the Hispanic population. While there is conflicting data in the literature, Hispanic patients may also have larger MMS defects when controlled for additional variables. Finally, over 64% of NMSCs in Hispanic patients were in high-risk locations. CONCLUSION Literature regarding the characteristics of Hispanic patients undergoing MMS for NMSC demonstrates most patients were male, BCC was the most common tumor subtype, and the majority of NMSCs were in high-risk locations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Examine retention and evaluation of incorporating melanocortin-1 receptor genetic risk information materials in a skin cancer prevention intervention conducted in Hispanics living near Tampa, Florida and Ponce, Puerto Rico. METHODS Two researchers applied thematic content analysis to identify major themes of open-ended responses (n = 1689) from 489 participants. RESULTS Five major thematic categories emerged: 1) intervention comments; 2) tips and tricks; 3) cancer prevention; 4) general information; and 5) risk factors and genetics. Responses captured under intervention comments (e.g., information was clear, easy to understand) and tips and tricks for sun protection (e.g., using sunscreen, wearing protective clothing) were most frequent. Participants noted the importance of conducting skin exams professionally or at home. English-preferring Tampa residents stated their individual risk factors, especially race and/or ethnicity, more frequently than Ponce residents and Spanish-preferring Tampa residents. Ponce residents were more likely to comment on wanting to share intervention materials with family and friends. CONCLUSION Findings suggest Hispanic participants implemented sun safety activities.

Abstract
Hispanics are more likely to be diagnosed with skin cancer at a later stage and experience worse overall survival than Whites. The objective of this cross-sectional study was to assess the skin cancer knowledge, attitudes, perceived risk, and sun protection practices among an underserved population in the Phoenix area. We recruited participants from the greater Phoenix area to undergo skin examination and complete a questionnaire. 208 participants were included. The majority were Hispanic (64.9%). Of this Hispanic group, most were from Mexico (87.9%). The Hispanic cohort had an overall mean skin cancer knowledge score of 3.68/6, the lowest of any other racial/ethnic group, but had the highest desire to learn more about skin cancer (64.6%, "strongly agree"). They were the most concerned about developing skin cancer (50.4%, "very concerned") but had relatively lower rates of sun protection practices (7.9% "always use" sunscreen, 22.0% "always use" sun-protective clothing). Limitations of this study include a small sample size, lack of validation for the skin cancer knowledge score, lack of season as a covariate in the multivariate analysis, lack of follow-up, and lack of robust skin cancer risk assessment. In conclusion, despite poorer skin cancer knowledge and sun protection practices, the Hispanic population had the highest concern for developing skin cancer and desire to learn more about skin cancer. Targeted and culturally relevant skin cancer and sun protection education for this group is needed.

Abstract
Individuals who work outside are at increased risk for skin cancer due to excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Little is known about UV exposures and sun safety practices of outdoor day laborers, who are disproportionately Hispanic. This study identified the correlates of sunburn and sun protection behaviors in a sample of male, Hispanic day laborers (n = 175). More than half of the participants (54.9%) experienced one or more sunburns when working during the past summer, and 62.9% reported having one or more symptoms of heat illness. The frequency of engaging in sun protection behaviors was suboptimal, including sunglasses use (M = 2.68, SD = 1.71), staying in the shade (M = 2.30, SD = 0.94), wearing sunscreen (M = 2.10, SD = 1.39), and wearing a wide-brimmed hat (M = 1.75, SD = 1.32), based on a 5-point scale (1 = never; 5 = always). Lower education level, higher levels of skin sensitivity to the sun, any symptom of heat illness, fewer barriers to wearing a wide-brimmed hat, and not wearing a wide-brimmed hat were associated with a greater number of sunburns. Factors associated with each sun protection behavior varied. Implications and directions for future research are discussed.

Abstract
Pediatric and adolesent patients with skin of color are seen by dermatologists for common complaints such as acne, atopic dermatitis, and traction alopecia. Combining the understanding of cultural practices, empathetic patient communication, and social implications is useful in counseling and treating pediatric and adolescent patients with skin of color.

Abstract
Background: The past two decades has revealed an unprecedented increasing incidence of skin cancer within the Latinx population. Although Latino day laborers (LDLs) are at heightened risk for developing skin cancer because of the outdoor work in which they engage, there is limited research examining their intentions to engage in sun protective behaviors (SPBs). Therefore, this study sought to assess the explanatory power of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to identify attitudinal, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control factors associated with intentions to engage in SPB among LDLs. Methods: This cross-sectional retrospective study consists of a non-random convenience,community-based, sample of 137 LDLs residing in Mississippi and Illinois. Data were collected using a self-report survey centered on health practices and sun-protective behaviors. Results: Findings revealed that five significant factors shaped intentions to engage in SPBs, including barriers to engaging in SPBs (β =.30, P<0.001), benefits of engaging in SPBs (β =.27,P<0.001), education (β=0.20, P<0.01), and acculturation (β=0.18, P≤0.05). The independent variables tested in the model accounted for 42% of the change in intentions to engage in SPBs. Conclusion: This study demonstrates TPB’s usefulness for predicting future intentions to engage in SPBs among LDLs. Moreover, the strongest factor associated with predicting intentions to engage in SPBs among LDLs was perceived behavioral control. Thus, since SPBs are malleable, emphasis is placed on implementing interventions for this population that promote intentions and address perceived behavioral control.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The landscaping services industry is one of the more dangerous in the United States, with higher rates of both fatal and nonfatal injuries than the all-industry average. This study uses claims from the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (OHBWC) database to identify high rates of occupational injuries and illnesses in this industry in Ohio. The causes of those illnesses and injuries are highlighted to identify common factors. METHODS The OHBWC database includes injured-worker industry identification, occupation, business size, demographics, diagnoses, and free-text descriptions of injury circumstances. We identified landscaping service industry claims from 2001 to 2017, and describe annual claim counts and rates. RESULTS Over the 17-year period, 18,037 claims were accepted, with "Struck by object or equipment" and "Overexertion involving outside sources" being the most common events or exposures. Sprains and fractures were the most prevalent of the more serious lost-time (LT) injuries. Free-text descriptions of claims indicate that arborist work and loading/unloading of work vehicles and trailers are particularly hazardous. Younger and shorter-tenured workers were injured most frequently, although the average workers' age was higher for LT claims. The total cost of claims to the OHBWC from the landscaping services industry for 2001-2017 was over $226,000,000. Almost $214,000,000, or 94.4%, was for LT injuries and illnesses, even though LT claims comprise only 18% of total claims. CONCLUSIONS Targeted improvements in landscaper safety could come from controlling events leading to LT claims. Engineering controls and improved training are strongly recommended to reduce falls, overexertion, and struck-by injuries.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sun exposure is the main external risk factor for keratinocytic non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC). Outdoor workers are at increased risk, but the relationship of NMSC with occupational solar exposure is often confounded by concurrent recreational sun exposure. We compared the percentage of outdoor workers in NMSC patients versus controls without history of NMSC and assessed occupational and recreational sun exposure in both groups, evaluating also other risk factors and use of protective measures. METHODS Adult NMSC patients and controls without history of NMSC or actinic keratoses, matched for sex and age range, were recruited in the Departments of Dermatology of seven Italian University Hospitals, with a 1:2 patient/control ratio whenever possible. Data were collected using specifically designed questionnaires. RESULTS Eight hundred thirty-four patients and 1563 controls were enrolled. History of outdoor work was significantly (P=0.033) more frequent in patients. Patients were more sun exposed from outdoor leisure activities (P=0.012) and sunbathed for longer periods (P=0.13) and between 12 pm and 3.30 pm (P=0.011). Cumulative sun exposure during hobbies was similar between patients and controls in outdoor workers, higher (P<0.05) in patients among indoor workers. Patients and controls with history of outdoor work were more sun exposed at work than during leisure activities (P<0.001). Use of sunscreens by outdoor workers was very low, particularly at work (19.9%). Patients used sunscreens more than controls (P=0.002). CONCLUSIONS Occupational and recreational sun exposure are relevant risk factors for outdoor and indoor workers respectively. Sunscreens are alarmingly underused, particularly at work, and are used mainly by patients.

Abstract
Introduction Skin cancers are malignant keratinizing tumors of epidermal, melaninic or adnexal origin. These cancers are still little known. However they affect people living in Madagascar where the amount of sunshine remains very high with an impact that varies depending on the skin type. The purpose of our study was to determine the epidemio-clinical profile of skin cancers in Antananarivo. Methods We conducted a retrospective descriptive study of skin cancers in the Department of Oncology of the Joseph Ravoahangy Andrianavalona Hospital, Antananarivo over a period of seven years. It included patients with tumoral skin lesions confirmed by histological examination. Results We collected data from 47 cases of skin cancers (male predominance; sex ratio 1.13). The average age of patients was 49.3 years. Farmers were the most affected. The lesions mainly occurred in the head, neck (44%) and lower limbs (42%). Localized skin cancers were detected in 61.7% of cases. Squamous cell carcinoma was the most common skin cancer in Madagascar (37%), followed by the melanoma (21%) and the basal cell carcinoma (11%). Treatment was mainly based on surgery (74.19%). Conclusion Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common cancer in Madagascar, followed by melanoma and basal cell carcinoma. Skin cancers affect mainly the young population and require appropriate management.

Abstract
Worldwide 2-3 million cases of keratinocyte carcinoma (KC) are diagnosed annually. Sun-related knowledge is essential for adequate protection against solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR), the main risk factor for KC. The goal was (i) to provide an updated overview of primary prevention against KC including skin cancer-related knowledge, attitudes and sun protection behaviour (SPB) of outdoor workers, the general population and medical professionals as well as (ii) to evaluate the effectiveness and acceptability of sun protection programmes. We conducted a systematic review of articles indexed for MEDLINE on PubMed using selected MeSH terms and keywords related to the studied topic as well as an extensive hand search of publications between 1 January 2012 and 31 December 2018. We identified 51 relevant cross-sectional studies and 22 interventional studies. Sun-related knowledge and attitude showed substantial differences with some alarming results, including people who had not even heard about skin cancer before. Reported SPB varied enormously between the included studies, with none of the studies providing an overall sufficient SPB in their examined sun protection measures. However, sun protection programmes using new technologies seem to have great potential to increase sun-related knowledge and SPB. In countries worldwide, particularly in those where KC is not yet a public health issue, UVR protection should be promoted by healthcare institutions and authorities, politicians, cancer foundations and dermatologists to increase awareness as well as SPB and to decrease the worldwide burden of KC.

Abstract
Agriculture is one of the major sources of employment and income in many countries, especially in developing countries. Farmers are exposed to numerous harmful factors such as sunlight and ultraviolet radiation. These factors contribute to multiple diseases including skin cancer. The aim of this study was to analyze the farmer's preventive behavior against sunlight using the Health Belief Model (HBM). This descriptive study was conducted by survey methodology and a questionnaire. The population of the research was composed of farmers in Kermanshah Province (N = 126,900). The sample size was determined as 382 farmers using the Krejcie and Morgan table. The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by relevant professors and experts, and the reliability was confirmed through a pilot study and the calculation of Cronbach's alpha coefficient, which was estimated at 0.70-0.83. Findings showed that the HBM structures had a significant effect on the farmer's preventive behavior, so that the perceived barriers, susceptibility, severity, benefits, self-efficacy, and cues to action have the strongest impact on the farmer's preventive behavior against sunlight. The results illustrated that components of the HBM were appropriate predictors for farmers' preventive behavior against sunlight.

Abstract
Black and Hispanic populations perceive their skin cancer risk to be low and are less likely to use sun protection strategies. We conducted formative research to understand knowledge, awareness, beliefs, and behaviors among these groups. In 2017, eighteen focus groups were conducted with black and Hispanic respondents(18-44 years) in four US cities. Groups were segmented by participant characteristics associated with elevated or lower risk for skin cancer, by race/ethnicity, gender, and age. A professional moderator followed a semi-structured discussion guide, and focus group transcripts were analyzed using conventional content analysis and NVIVO 11 Software. Most participants perceived themselves to be at low skin cancer risk due to their "darker skin tone" and/or "lack of family history." Skin cancer signs and symptoms were more inconsistently reported by blacks than Hispanics. Few participants reported regular sun protection behaviors. Those who did used sunscreen, wore protective clothing, and had elevated risk based on sun sensitivity or UV exposure. While most participants recalled family discussions (as youth) about sunscreen and sun protection, the understood intent was to warn against "further skin darkening" or to "prevent aging," not to reduce sun burns or skin cancer risk. Tanning bed use was low across all segments, especially among black respondents. Tailored skin cancer prevention campaigns need to address misperceptions about risks and benefits of skin cancer prevention behaviors among black and Hispanic populations. Families, peer groups, and healthcare providers need to be engaged in the creation of educational interventions and messaging efforts that target these populations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Outdoor professionals such as mountain guides are at a substantial risk of developing non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) due to solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure. Despite major recent primary prevention efforts, studies on secondary skin cancer prevention efforts are limited and corresponding data on outdoor workers scarce. OBJECTIVE To assess the sun protective behaviour and individual motivations for or against skin cancer screening examinations in the German mountain guide population to aid in the development of effective awareness and prevention strategies. METHODS A cross-sectional study among all registered mountain guides in Germany was conducted using a 35-item online questionnaire on primary and secondary prevention of NMSC as well as perceived barriers for prevention. RESULTS A total of 145 mountain guides participated in the study in January 2017. Of these, 86.2% reported using sunscreen often or always, 62.1% with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30-50% and 60.7% had undergone dermatological examination by a medical professional. The most common reasons for using secondary prevention efforts were hope of an early diagnosis (77.3%), fear of skin cancer (73.9%) and the intention to be aware of one's own health (70.5%). The main reasons for not doing so were absence of conspicuous skin conditions (63.2%) and feeling healthy (59.6%). CONCLUSION Awareness of prevention strategies recommended by the scientific community is low among affected occupationally high-risk mountain guide populations. Understanding the specific needs of this high-risk group is essential for the development of sustainable awareness and prevention strategies.

Abstract
Objectives Despite the substantial solar ultraviolet radiation experienced by Latino day laborers, little attention has been given to factors that are associated with sun protective behaviors. The purpose of this study was to examine psychological and nonpsychological predictors of sun protective behaviors among Latino day laborers. Methods This cross-sectional study included a nonrandom sample of 137 Latino day laborers recruited from Mississippi and Illinois. Participants completed a self-report survey instrument, available in English and Spanish, on sun protective behaviors. Results Multivariate regression results showed that sun protective behaviors were significantly greater among Latino day laborers: (a) who had greater perceptions that their supervisor also engaged in sun protective behaviors (β = 0.25, p ≤ 0.01); (b) who reported higher levels of health literacy (β = 0.23, p ≤ 0.001); (c) who have greater knowledge of skin cancer risk factors (β = 0.21, p ≤ 0.01); and (d) who have skin tone that was self-perceived to be more prone to sunburns (β = 0.19, p ≤ 0.01). Conclusions Latino day laborers possess marginal levels of skin cancer knowledge and engage minimally in sun protective behaviors. Skin cancer prevention interventions are warranted for this high-risk group, particularly in the locations in which Latino day laborers work.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to determine and evaluate sun safety knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) among agricultural workers (AWs) in the Autonomous Province of Trento (North-Eastern Italy). METHODS A cross sectional study was performed among AWs who attended pesticide training courses (2016). Participants received a structured questionnaire focusing on KAP towards sun protective behaviors. Synthetic scores for knowledge (GKS), risk perception (RPS), behavioral adaptation and use of personal protective equipment (SPPS) were calculated. Regression analysis was modelled in order to assess GKS, RPS and individual factors as predictors of SPPS. RESULTS The sample included 204 AWs (89.7% males, 10.3% females, mean age 43.9±15.9 years). Sun protective behaviors were irregularly referred by participants, in particular receiving medical skin assessment by a dermatologist (33.8%), avoiding sun radiations at noon and taking rest breaks in shady areas (30.9%), and wearing sunscreen (13.3%). GKS was correlated with RPS, and RPS was characterized as a significant predictor of SPPS (B=0.307; 95% CI 0.224-0.389, P<0.001), alongside increased seniority (B=4.957: 95% CI 3.064-6.851, P<0.001) and previous history of sunburns (B=5.829; 95% CI 1.520-10.139, P=0.008). CONCLUSIONS Our findings indicate that AWs are not appropriately aware of the risks associated with occupational exposure to solar radiation, and eventually report inadequate skin cancer prevention practices. Since SPPS found significant predictors in individual factors, tailored interventions and training may contribute to fill knowledge gaps and raise the concerns of AWs towards occupational dermatological disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) was officially recognized in 2015 as an occupational disease for outdoor workers in Germany. Together with the enormous socioeconomic impact of NMSC, this has led to the continuous demand of evidence-based prevention. However, studies assessing the perceptions and beliefs along with risk behaviour of outdoor workers as an essential prerequisite for prevention are rare. OBJECTIVE To assess perceptions, beliefs, barriers, risk and preventive behaviours towards non-melanoma skin cancer among different outdoor groups as a basis for the development of sustainable prevention programmes. PATIENTS AND METHODS Cross-sectional study among outdoor workers of three different occupational groups (farmer, gardener, roofer) using a 20-question online survey on NMSC awareness, risk and preventive behaviours. RESULTS Between March and April 2016, 353 outdoor workers participated in the study. Of these, 153 (43.4%) reported never to use sunscreen during work. Wearing headgear and long pants were the most common sun protection measures. Poor use of sunscreen was more likely in males and farmers. A low perceived skin cancer risk was significantly associated with poor use of sunscreen, long-sleeved shirts, sunglasses and headgear. CONCLUSIONS Despite great evidence on NMSC risk in outdoor professions throughout the literature, high-risk groups in fact are not yet aware of the topic. Sustainable target group-oriented awareness prevention programmes are needed to lower the immense burden of NMSC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Skin cancer incidence has been increasing in U.S. Hispanics over several decades and the postdiagnosis outcomes are worse for Hispanics than for non-Hispanic whites. Parents are influential in children's health preventive behaviors, but little is known about parental factors associated with children's skin cancer-related behaviors in the U.S. Hispanic population. The present study examined parental and child correlates of skin cancer-related behaviors (sunburns, sunbathing, sun-protective clothing use, and sunscreen use) of children of Hispanic parents. METHODS This survey study included a population-based sample of 360 U.S. Hispanic parents (44.8% male) who had a child 14 years of age or younger. Measures included parental reports of parent and child demographic characteristics, parent skin cancer knowledge and linguistic acculturation, and parent and child skin cancer-related behaviors. RESULTS Approximately 28% of children and 31.9% of parents experienced at least one sunburn in the past year and approximately 29% of children and 36.7% of parents were reported to sunbathe. Moderate use of sun-protective clothing and sunscreen was reported for parents and their children. Child sun-protective clothing use and sunscreen use, sunburns, and sunbathing were associated with the corresponding behaviors of their parents. CONCLUSIONS Future research should consider the role of acculturation and perceived risk in the sun protection behaviors of U.S. Hispanic children, particularly in those who report a fair skin type. Hispanic parents should be included in interventions targeting their children's skin cancer-related behaviors, and it is suggested that such interventions could also encourage parents to improve their own behaviors.

Abstract
Improved education on appropriate photoprotection in children is vital. Photoprotection for these individuals should include seeking shade, the use of physical agents (clothing, hat, sunglasses), and application of sunscreens on exposed areas. Avoidance of the use of tanning beds is an important component of education for teenagers. Ultraviolet radiation exposure induces DNA damage and photoaging in all skin types, including people of color. The extent of such damage is inversely related to constitutive skin pigmentation. Therefore, personalized photoprotection recommendations concerning skin cancer risk factors, desired treatment outcomes, health needs (eg, vitamin D), and photoaging based on the needs and preferences of the patient are essential. It is clear that additional research is needed on optimal levels of protection against ultraviolet radiation for people of color.

Abstract
Cutaneous melanoma is a significant public health concern, accounting for thousands of deaths annually in the US. Early detection and diagnosis are critical given the poor prognosis and limited treatment options of advanced-stage disease. While non-Hispanic whites have higher incidence rates of melanoma, Hispanics are typically diagnosed at later disease stages and suffer higher morbidity and mortality. Currently, there is a paucity of literature investigating the root causes underlying these trends among Hispanics. Given that Hispanics are the most rapidly expanding demographic segment in the US, it is essential for cancer control efforts to elucidate the major determinants of their poor melanoma outcomes. Herein, we use the social ecological model as a framework to explore the multitude of influences on melanoma disparities among Hispanics and provide recommendations for planning future studies and interventions.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to describe the epidemiology of melanoma among Hispanics using data that cover nearly 100 % of the US population. METHODS The study used population-based cancer incidence data from the National Program of Cancer Registries and the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results Program to examine melanoma incidence rates and trends among Hispanics by sex, age, race, histology, anatomic location, stage, and tumor thickness. RESULTS From 2008 to 2012, 6,623 cases of melanoma were diagnosed among Hispanics. Rates were higher among males (4.6) than among females (4.0), but females younger than age 55 had higher rates than males. The most common histologic subtype was superficial spreading melanoma (23 %). Melanomas with poorer outcomes, such as nodular (NM) and acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM), were more common among males. Hispanic females had the highest proportion of melanoma on the lower limb and hip (33.7 %), while Hispanic males had the highest proportion on the trunk (29.9 %). Incidence rates for later-stage diagnosis and thicker tumors were significantly higher among Hispanic men than among women. Incidence rates decreased significantly during 2003-2012 (AAPC = -1.4). CONCLUSIONS Clinicians and public health practitioners will need to reach the growing Hispanic population in the USA with strategies for primary prevention and early diagnosis of melanoma. Results suggest Hispanics and providers need education to increase awareness about the characteristics of melanoma among Hispanics, including types that occur on non-sun-exposed areas (ALM and NM). Skin cancer prevention and awareness interventions targeting Hispanics should be culturally relevant.
