Abstract
The epidemic of alcohol abuse affects millions of people worldwide. Relevant evidence supports the notion that the gut microbiota (GM) plays a crucial role in central nervous system (CNS) function, and its composition undergoes changes following alcohol consumption. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of reconstructing the gut microbiota by fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) on alcohol dependence. Here, we established an alcohol dependence model with C57BL/6J mice and proved that FMT treatment improved anxiety-like behavior and alcohol-seeking behavior in alcohol-dependent mice. Additionally, we found that the expression of the intestinal intercellular tight junction structure proteins ZO-1 and occludin was significantly increased after FMT. FMT repaired intestinal permeability in alcohol-dependent mice and decreased the levels of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and proinflammatory factors. Moreover, the serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) content was significantly increased in alcohol-dependent mouse intestinal and brain tissues after receiving the fecal microbiome from healthy mice. 16S rRNA sequencing demonstrated that FMT markedly reshaped the composition of the gut microbiota and elicited changes in the intestinal barrier and 5-HT levels. Collectively, our results revealed that FMT has a palliative effect on alcohol dependence and explored the underlying mechanisms, which provides new strategies for the treatment of alcohol dependence.

Abstract
A network of early psychosis-specific intervention programs at the University of Montreal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, conducted a longitudinal naturalistic five-year study at two Urban Early Intervention Services (EIS). In this study, 198 patients were recruited based on inclusion/exclusion criteria and agreed to participate. Our objectives were to assess the subjective cognition complaints of schizophrenic patients assessed by Subjective Scale to Investigate Cognition in Schizophrenia (SSTICS) in their first-episode psychosis (FEP) in relation to their general characteristics. We also wanted to assess whether there are sex-based differences in the subjective cognitive complaints, as well as differences in cognitive complaints among patients who use alcohol in comparison to those who are abstainers. Additionally, we wanted to monitor the changes in the subjective complaints progress for a period of five years follow-up. Our findings showed that although women expressed more cognitive complaints than men [mean (SD) SSTICS, 28.2 (13.7) for women and 24.7 (13.2) for men], this difference was not statistically significant (r = −0.190, 95 % CI, −0. 435 to 0. 097). We also found that abstainers complained more about their cognition than alcohol consumers [mean (SD) SSTICS, 27.9 (13.4) for abstainers and 23.7 (12.9) for consumers], a difference which was statistically significant (r = −0.166, 95 % CI, −0. 307 to −0.014). Our findings showed a drop in the average score of SSTICS through study follow-up time among FEP patients. In conclusion, we suggest that if we want to set up a good cognitive remediation program, it is useful to start with the patients' demands. This demand can follow the patients' complaints. Further investigations are needed in order to propose different approaches between alcohol users and abstinent patients concerning responding to their cognitive complaints.

Abstract
Longitudinal studies of substance-induced psychosis (SIP) suggest that approximately 11-46% of persons will progress to schizophrenia with differential risk of progression depending on the type of substance used. The findings suggest SIP may be a distinct variant of a psychotic disorder, yet SIP is understudied and the disease expression is not well characterized, particularly the cognitive phenotype. There is some evidence for cognitive dysfunction in SIP, but a synthesis of this literature has not been undertaken. We systematically reviewed all empirical research (up to December 31, 2020) that examined cognition in SIP using clinical neuropsychological measures. The cognitive outcomes are summarized by type of SIP (methamphetamine, other stimulants, alcohol, cannabis, undifferentiated). There was evidence for global and domain-specific cognitive dysfunction in SIP compared to controls and non-psychotic persons who use substances. Impairments were of similar magnitude compared to persons with schizophrenia. Delineation of a specific cognitive profile in SIP was precluded by lack of literature with comparable study designs and outcomes. Variation in visual-based cognition may be a distinct feature of SIP, but this requires further investigation. More rigorously controlled studies of cognition in SIP are needed to inform differential diagnosis and identify the unique clinical needs of this population.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Several studies of neuropsychological measures have been undertaken in patients with psychotic disorders from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). It is, however, unclear if the measures used in these studies are appropriate for cognitive screening in clinical settings. We undertook a systematic review to determine if measures investigated in research on psychotic disorders in LMICs meet the clinical utility criteria proposed by The Working Group on Screening and Assessment. METHODS Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses were employed. We determined if tests had been validated against a comprehensive test battery, the duration and scope of the tests, the personnel administering the tests, and the means of administration. RESULTS A total of 31 articles were included in the review, of which 11 were from Africa. The studies included 3254 participants with psychosis and 1331 controls. 3 studies reported on the validation of the test against a comprehensive cognitive battery. Assessments took 1 h or less to administer in 6/31 studies. The average number of cognitive domains assessed was four. Nonspecialized staff were used in only 3/31 studies, and most studies used pen and paper tests (17/31). CONCLUSION Neuropsychological measures used in research on psychotic disorders in LMICs typically do not meet the Working Group on Screening and Assessment clinical utility criteria for cognitive screening. Measures that have been validated in high-income countries but not in LMICs that do meet these criteria, such as the Brief Assessment of Cognition in Schizophrenia, therefore deserve further study in LMIC settings.

Abstract
Alcohol-induced psychotic disorder is a rare complication of chronic alcohol abuse following abrupt alcohol cessation that is characterized by visual, auditory, or tactile hallucinations paired with intact orientation and stable vital signs, distinguishing the condition from delirium tremens and psychotic disorders. The condition, first termed alcoholic hallucinosis, has been described in medical literature for over a century, however, its nosologic classification and psychopathologic characteristics are less well-documented. One such case of alcohol-induced psychotic disorder with multimodal hallucinations of four months duration is described here.

Abstract
Alcohol abuse is a major public health crisis. Relative evidences supported that the gut microbiota (GM) played an important role in central nervous system (CNS) function, and the composition of them had changed after alcohol drinking. We sought to explore the changes of GM in alcohol dependence. In our study, the GM of mice with alcohol administration was detected through analyzed 16S rRNA gene sequencing and the fecal metabolites were analyzed by LC-MS. The microbial diversity was significantly higher in the alcohol administration group, the abundance of phylum Firmicutes and its class Clostridiales were elevated, meanwhile the abundance of Lachnospiraceae, Alistipes, and Odoribacter showed significant differences among the three groups. Based on LC-MS results, bile acid, secondary bile acid, serotonin and taurine level had varying degrees of changes in alcohol model. From paraffin sections, tissue damage was observed in liver and colon. These findings provide direct evidence that alcohol intake affects the composition of GM, enable a better understanding of the function of GM in the microbiota-gut-brain (MGB) axis, and give a new thought for alcohol addiction treatment.
