Abstract
BACKGROUND Olive oil consumption has been reportedly associated with lower mortality rates, mostly from cardiovascular diseases, but its potential impact on cancer death remains controversial. Moreover, biological mechanisms possibly linking olive oil consumption to mortality outcomes remain unexplored. METHODS We longitudinally analysed data on 22,892 men and women from the Moli-sani Study in Italy (follow-up 13.1 y), to examine the association of olive oil consumption with mortality. Dietary data were collected at baseline (2005-2010) through a 188-item FFQ, and olive oil consumption was standardised to a 10 g tablespoon (tbsp) size. Diet quality was assessed through a Mediterranean diet score. Multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazard models, also including diet quality, were used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The potential mediating role of inflammatory, metabolic, cardiovascular and renal biomarkers on the association between olive oil intake and mortality was evaluated on the basis of change-in-estimate and associated p values. RESULTS Multivariable HRs for all-cause, cancer, cardiovascular and other cause mortality associated with high (>3 tbsp/d) versus low (≤1.5 tbsp/d) olive oil consumption were 0.80 (0.69-0.94), 0.77 (0.59-0.99), 0.75 (0.58-0.97) and 0.97 (0.73-1.29), respectively. Taken together, the investigated biomarkers attenuated the association of olive oil consumption with all-cause and cancer mortality by 21.2% and 13.7%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Higher olive oil consumption was associated with lower cancer, cardiovascular and all-cause mortality rates, independent of overall diet quality. Known risk factors for chronic diseases only in part mediated such associations suggesting that other biological pathways are potentially involved in this relationship.

Abstract
Background Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD), a term that encompasses a wide array of malignancies that occur after transplant, can be one of the most devastating transplant complications. While there have been major advancements in care, especially after the landmark PTLD-1 trial in 2012, there is a paucity of information on hospitalizations for PTLD and the changes in hospitalizations over time. Methods This retrospective cohort study used the National Inpatient Sample to identify hospitalizations for PTLD that occurred between 2009 and 2018. We extracted data for hospitalizations with a primary or secondary diagnosis of PTLD and examined a range of variables, including age, gender, race, hospital type, hospital location, and disposition status. We also collected data on hospital region, median household income, insurance status, and bed size. Results There was a statistically significant increase in the number of hospitalizations from 2009 to 2019 and an increasing rate of hospitalizations over the study period. Hypertension, electrolyte imbalances, renal failure, and anemia were among the most common comorbidities. We found an increased mortality rate, but this was not statistically significant. Conclusion Our study provides insight into the changes in hospitalizations for PTLD over nearly a decade, showing an increase in hospitalizations and reports of comorbidities.

Abstract
Despite the considerable advancements in chemotherapy as a cornerstone modality in cancer treatment, the prevalence of complications and pre-existing diseases is on the rise among cancer patients along with prolonged survival and aging population. The relationships between these disorders and cancer are intricate, bearing significant influence on the survival and quality of life of individuals with cancer and presenting challenges for the prognosis and outcomes of malignancies. Herein, we review the prevailing complications and comorbidities that often accompany chemotherapy and summarize the lessons to learn from inadequate research and management of this scenario, with an emphasis on possible strategies for reducing potential complications and alleviating comorbidities, as well as an overview of current preclinical cancer models and practical advice for establishing bio-faithful preclinical models in such complex context.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW To provide a comprehensive review of hypertension among patients with cancer. Several cancer therapies cause hypertension which has resulted in a growing and vulnerable population of patients with difficult to control hypertension which has significant downstream effects. RECENT FINDINGS Hypertension affects up to 50% of cancer patients and higher comorbidity when compared to the general population. Many anticancer therapies can cause hypertension through their treatment effect. Antihypertensive treatment is crucial given cardiovascular mortality is a leading cause of death among cancer patients. It is already known that hypertension is poorly controlled in the general population, and there are additional challenges in management among patients with cancer. Patients with cancer suffer from multimorbidity, are on multiple medications creating concern for drug interactions, and often have blood pressure lability, which can worsen clinical inertia among patients and their providers. It is crucial to effectively treat hypertension in cancer patients to mitigate downstream adverse cardiovascular events. SUMMARY In recent years, there have been significant changes in management guidelines of hypertension and simultaneously as influx of new cancer therapeutics. We provide an update on hypertension treatment among patients with cancer on different chemotherapeutic agents.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Long-term cardiovascular complications are common among pediatric cancer survivors, and anthracycline-induced hypertension has become an essential reason for concern. Compared to non-cancer controls, survivors have a higher prevalence of hypertension, and as they age, their incidence rises, offering significant dangers to cardiovascular health. MAIN BODY Research demonstrates that exposure to anthracyclines is a major factor in the development of hypertension in children who have survived cancer. Research emphasizes the frequency and risk factors of anthracycline-induced hypertension, highlighting the significance of routine measurement and management of blood pressure. Furthermore, cardiovascular toxicities, such as hypertension, after anthracycline-based therapy are a crucial be concerned, especially for young adults and adolescents. Childhood cancer survivors deal with a variety of cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary artery disease and cardiomyopathy, which are made worse by high blood pressure. In order to prevent long-term complications, it is essential to screen for and monitor for anthracycline-induced hypertension. Echocardiography and cardiac biomarkers serve as essential tools for early detection and treatment. In order to lower cardiovascular risks in pediatric cancer survivors, comprehensive management strategies must include lifestyle and medication interventions in addition to survivor-centered care programs. SHORT CONCLUSION Proactive screening, monitoring, and management measures are necessary for juvenile cancer survivors due to the substantial issue of anthracycline-induced hypertension in their long-term care. To properly include these strategies into survivor-ship programs, oncologists, cardiologists, and primary care physicians need to collaborate together. The quality of life for pediatric cancer survivors can be enhanced by reducing the cardiovascular risks linked to anthracycline therapy and promoting survivor-centered care and research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hypertension is a risk factor for experiencing left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) declines during receipt of potentially cardiotoxic breast cancer (BC) treatment. We sought to determine whether the hypertension stage is associated with LVEF decline during BC treatment. METHODS Across 24 centers, cardiac magnetic resonance measures of LVEF and brachial arterial blood pressure (BP) measurements were performed in women with stages I to III BC before and 3 months after initiating potentially cardiotoxic chemotherapy. Using multivariable analysis, we assessed in a blinded fashion the association between 3-month ΔLVEF and precancer treatment American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology stages of hypertension. RESULTS Among 204 women, age averaged 56±1 years with 75% being White and 20% of Black race. Participants received anthracycline (45.6%), trastuzumab (22.5%), cyclophosphamide (52.9%), or paclitaxel (50%). After accounting for pretreatment LVEF, diabetes status, tobacco use, age, the number of antihypertensive medications, and body mass index, those with stage II hypertension experienced an LVEF decline of -2.89% ([95% CI, -0.69% to -5.19%]; P=0.01) relative to individuals with normal BP. Other stages saw nonsignificant declines relative to normal BP to elevated BP (-1.63% [95% CI, -0.62% to 3.88%]; P=0.16) and stage I hypertension (-0.94% [95% CI, -0.90% to 2.78%]; P=0.32). CONCLUSIONS Compared with women receiving treatment for BC with normal BP, there is a stronger association of decline in LVEF in women with stage II hypertension relative to women with other hypertension stages. This raises the possibility that stage along with hypertension presence may be associated with an increased risk for the LVEF decline among women receiving potentially cardiotoxic chemotherapy for BC. Abstract
ABSTRACT Although Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitors (BTKis) are generally well tolerated and less toxic than chemotherapy alternatives used to treat lymphoid malignancies, BTKis like ibrutinib have the potential to cause new or worsening hypertension (HTN). Little is known about the optimal treatment of BTKi-associated HTN. Randomly selected patients with lymphoid malignancies on a BTKi and antihypertensive drug(s) and with at least 3 months of follow-up data were sorted into 2 groups: those diagnosed with HTN before BTKi initiation (prior-HTN), and those diagnosed with HTN after BTKi initiation (de novo HTN). Generalized estimating equations assessed associations between time varying mean arterial pressures (MAPs) and individual anti-HTN drug categories. Of 196 patients included in the study, 118 had prior-HTN, and 78 developed de novo HTN. Statistically significant mean MAP reductions were observed in patients with prior-HTN who took β blockers (BBs) with hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), (-5.05 mmHg; 95% confidence interval [CI], 10.0 to -0.0596; P = .047), and patients diagnosed with de novo HTN who took either an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEi) or angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) with HCTZ (-5.47 mmHg; 95% CI, 10.9 to -0.001; P = .05). These regimens also correlated with the greatest percentages of normotensive MAPs. Treatment of HTN in patients taking a BTKi is challenging and may require multiple antihypertensives. Patients with prior-HTN appear to benefit from combination regimens with BBs and HCTZ, whereas patients with de novo HTN appear to benefit from ACEi/ARBs with HCTZ. These results should be confirmed in prospective studies.

Abstract
Novel immune and targeted therapies approved over the past 2 decades have resulted in dramatic improvements in cancer-specific outcomes for many cancer patients. However, many of these agents can induce cardiovascular toxicity in a subset of patients. The field of cardio-oncology was established based on observations that anti-neoplastic chemotherapies and mantle radiation can lead to premature cardiomyopathy in cancer survivors. While conventional chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immune therapies can all result in cardiovascular adverse events, the mechanisms, timing, and incidence of these events are inherently different. Many of these effects converge upon the coronary microvasculature to involve, through endocardial endothelial cells, a more direct effect through close proximity to cardiomyocyte with cellular communication and signaling pathways. In this review, we will provide an overview of emerging paradigms in the field of Cardio-Oncology, particularly the role of the coronary microvasculature in mediating cardiovascular toxicity of important cancer targeted and immune therapies. As the number of cancer patients treated with novel immune and targeted therapies grows exponentially and subsequently the number of long-term cancer survivors dramatically increases, it is critical that cardiologists and cardiology researchers recognize the unique potential cardiovascular toxicities of these agents.

Abstract
Reversible electroporation is a suitable technique to aid the internalization of medicaments in cancer tissues without inducing permanent cellular damage, allowing the enhancement of cytotoxic effects without incurring in electric-driven necrotic or apoptotic processes by the presence of non-reversible aqueous pores. An adequate selection of electroporation parameters acquires relevance to reach these goals and avoid opposite effects. This work applies the Method of Fundamental Solutions (MFS) for drug transport simulations in electroporated cancer tissues, using a continuum tumor cord approach and considering both electro-permeabilization and vasoconstriction effects. The MFS algorithm is validated with published results, obtaining satisfactory accuracy and convergence. Then, MFS simulations are executed to study the influence of electric field magnitude [Formula: see text], number of electroporation treatments [Formula: see text], and electroporation time [Formula: see text] on three assessment parameters of electrochemotherapy: the internationalization efficacy accounting for the ability of the therapy to introduce moles into viable cells, cell-kill capacity indicating the faculty to reduce the survival fraction of cancer cells, and distribution uniformity specifying the competence to supply drug homogeneously through the whole tissue domain. According to numerical results, when [Formula: see text] is the reversibility threshold, a positive influence on the first two parameters is only possible once specific values of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] have been exceeded; when [Formula: see text] is just the irreversibility threshold, any combination of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] is beneficial. On the other hand, the drug distribution uniformity is always adversely affected by the application of electric pulses, being this more noticeable as [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text] increases.

Abstract
Lung cancer is the second most common cancer worldwide and the leading cause of cancer-related death. While survival rates have improved with advancements in cancer therapeutics, additional health challenges have surfaced. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with lung cancer. CVD and lung cancer share many risk factors, such as smoking, hypertension, diabetes, advanced age, and obesity. Optimal management of this patient population requires a full understanding of the potential cardiovascular (CV) complications of lung cancer treatment. This review outlines the common shared risk factors, the spectrum of cardiotoxicities associated with lung cancer therapeutics, and prevention and management of short- and long-term CVD in patients with non-small cell (NSCLC) and small cell (SCLC) lung cancer. Due to the medical complexity of these patients, multidisciplinary collaborative care among oncologists, cardiologists, primary care physicians, and other providers is essential.

Abstract
PURPOSE Hodgkin's lymphoma is currently treated with a chemotherapy protocol consisting of doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine, and dacarbazine. Due to Brazil facing a bleomycin shortage in 2017, and this drug's high toxicity, this retrospective study evaluates the effect that the absence of bleomycin had on treatment response and overall survival of Hodgkin's lymphoma patients. METHODS The medical records of 126 HL patients treated between 2007 and 2021 were reviewed and their data collected, followed by grouping into ABVD and AVD groups according to bleomycin use. Data concerning the patient's characteristics, cancer type, and treatment plan were analyzed with proportion tests, Kaplan-Meier curves. univariate Cox regression, and χ2 tests. RESULTS No discernible differences were found in this study between the overall survival and recurrence rate of patients treated with bleomycin compared to those without. Additionally, there was an increased risk of death in each subsequent cycle of chemotherapy of the complete ABVD protocol, demonstrating a risk of toxicity. Among the variables analyzed, hypertension and the presence of B symptoms were also associated with an increased risk of death, while the use of radiotherapy significantly improved survival. CONCLUSION The results of this study suggest that bleomycin did not impact the outcome of Hodgkin's lymphoma treatment. Moreover, the increased risk of death associated with its toxicity during each cycle of treatment raises concerns about its role as an essential component of the gold standard for Hodgkin's lymphoma treatment. Therefore, further research and consideration are needed to reassess the use of bleomycin in Hodgkin's lymphoma treatment protocols.

Abstract
INSTITUTIONS STONY BROOK MEDICAL CENTERRATIONALE: Lung Cancer screening for the high-risk smoking population has been proven to save lives. However, in 2022, 20% of newly diagnosed lung cancers (47,300) were in nonsmokers. These patients were found to be diagnosed at later stages. This may be at least partly due to not meeting criteria for and participating in current lung cancer screening. This study aims to describe characteristics of a never smoker patient population to help identify common risk factors which might merit inclusion in lung cancer screening and thus improve patient outcomes. METHODS This retrospective single center study included never-smoker patients diagnosed with lung nodules and never-smoker patients diagnosed with lung cancer from 2016 to 2022. Data was obtained from the Stony Brook Medical Center electronic medical record. 16,056 patients were identified as never-smokers who were asked by the medical assistant if they ever smoked in their lifetime. Patients were eliminated if they had any smoking history up to first diagnosis date. Demographics, radiology, histology, diagnosis dates, comorbidities, smoking status, and exposures collected through ICD10 codes and not self-reported, were investigated. RESULTS Of 16,056 never-smoking patients, 9315 (58.02%) were females diagnosed with lung nodules and 6741 (41.98%) were males diagnosed with lung nodules. The univariate analysis showed significant differences between gender, age at nodule diagnosis, and patients with and without comorbidities including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hypertension (HTN), and family history (FHX) of lung cancer. The percentage of lung cancer patients among females was significantly higher than among males. Patients having lung cancer were older. The percentages of lung cancer patients with these comorbidities were significantly higher than those without. However, there was no significant difference found between patients with and without diabetes mellitus (DM). The multivariable logistic regression suggested that age at nodule diagnosis and comorbidities including COPD (which included asthma, emphysema and chronic bronchitis) and family history of lung cancer were significantly associated with lung cancer. Older patients and patients with those comorbidities had a higher risk of developing cancer than those who were younger or without those comorbidities. The study excluded HTN and included age at nodule diagnosis in the logistic regression model as HTN was found to be protective against lung cancer due to age at lung nodule diagnosis. CONCLUSION Never-smoker patients who were older and with COPD and Family History of lung cancer had higher risk of developing lung cancer than younger patients without these comorbidities. In this study, gender had no impact on outcome.

Abstract
The convective delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs in cancerous tissues is directly proportional to the blood perfusion rate, which in turns can be transiently reduced by the application of high-voltage and short-duration electric pulses due to vessel vasoconstriction. However, electric pulses can also increase vessel wall and cell membrane permeabilities, boosting the extravasation and cell internalization of drug. These opposite effects, as well as possible adverse impacts on the viability of tissues and endothelial cells, suggest the importance of conducting in silico studies about the influence of physical parameters involved in electric-mediated drug transport. In the present work, the global method of approximate particular solutions for axisymmetric domains, together with two solution schemes (Gauss-Seidel iterative and linearization+successive over-relaxation), is applied for the simulation of drug transport in electroporated cancer tissues, using a continuum tumor cord approach and considering both the electropermeabilization and vasoconstriction phenomena. The developed global method of approximate particular solutions algorithm is validated with numerical and experimental results previously published, obtaining a satisfactory accuracy and convergence. Then, a parametric study about the influence of electric field magnitude and inlet blood velocity on the internalization efficacy, drug distribution uniformity, and cell-kill capacity of the treatment, as expressed by the number of internalized moles into viable cells, homogeneity of exposure to bound intracellular drug, and cell survival fraction, respectively, is analyzed for three pharmacokinetic profiles, namely one-short tri-exponential, mono-exponential, and uniform. According to numerical results, the trade-off between vasoconstriction and electropermeabilization effects and, consequently, the influence of electric field magnitude and inlet blood velocity on the assessment parameters considered here (efficacy, uniformity, and cell-kill capacity) is different for each pharmacokinetic profile deemed.

Abstract
Electroporation has emerged as a suitable technique to induce the pore formation in the cell membrane of cancer tissues, facilitating the cellular internalization of chemotherapeutic drugs. An adequate selection of the electric pulse characteristics is crucial to guarantee the efficiency of this technique, minimizing the adverse effects. In the present work, the dual reciprocity boundary element method (DR-BEM) is applied for the simulation of drug transport in the extracellular and intracellular space of cancer tissues subjected to the application of controlled electric pulses, using a continuum tumour cord approach, and considering both the electro-permeabilization and vasoconstriction phenomena. The developed DR-BEM algorithm is validated with numerical and experimental results previously published, obtaining a satisfactory accuracy and convergence. Using the DR-BEM code, a study about the influence of the magnitude of electric field (E) and pulse spacing (dpulses) on the time behavior and spatial distribution of the internalized drug, as well as on the cell survival fraction, is carried out. In general, the change of drug concentration, drug exposure and cell survival fraction with the parameters E and dpulses is ruled by two important factors: the balance between the electro-permeabilization and vasoconstriction phenomena, and the relative importance of the sources of cell death (electric pulses and drug cytotoxicity); these two factors, in turn, significantly depend on the reversible and irreversible thresholds considered for the electric field.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial pediatric tumor, accounting for 5-8% of all childhood cancers. Neuroblastomas arise from catecholamine-secreting neural crest cells and their metabolites, vanillylmandelic acid and homovanillic acid, that are readily detected in urine. Although rarely seen in clinical practice, case reports exist documenting severe intraoperative hypertension. However, data on the incidence of intraoperative hypertension are lacking. METHODS This report is a single-center retrospective review of patients with neuroblastoma who underwent surgical resection (n = 102) at Boston Children's Hospital from July 1, 2012 to February 28, 2021. Significant intraoperative hypertension was defined as maximum systolic blood pressure greater than 95th percentile +12 mmHg based on normative blood pressure data. Statistical analysis was performed using Fisher's exact test, Wilcoxon rank-sum test, and logistic regression. RESULTS The overall incidence of intraoperative hypertension was 13% (n = 13/102). Higher American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status was associated with intraoperative hypertension. Antihypertensive medications were administered intraoperatively in 9% of cases (n = 9), and the use was significantly associated with intraoperative hypertension. Of patients with preoperative urine catecholamine data (n = 82), all 10 patients who had intraoperative hypertension were noted to have elevated preoperative urine catecholamines. Intraoperative hypertension was not associated with postoperative hypertension, postoperative hypotension, or increased intensive care unit length of stay. DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION Intraoperative hypertension in patients with neuroblastoma remains a relatively uncommon occurrence; however, it does occur at a frequency higher than previously described. While intraoperative hypertension is associated with an increased use of antihypertensive medications in the operating room, it is not associated with adverse perioperative outcomes.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease and cancer are 2 of the leading causes of death worldwide. Although improvements in outcomes have been noted for both disease entities, the success of cancer therapies has come at the cost of at times very impactful adverse events such as cardiovascular events. Hypertension has been noted as both, a side effect as well as a risk factor for the cardiotoxicity of cancer therapies. Some of these dynamics are in keeping with the role of hypertension as a cardiovascular risk factor not only for heart failure, but also for the development of coronary and cerebrovascular disease, and kidney disease and its association with a higher morbidity and mortality overall. Other aspects such as the molecular mechanisms underlying the amplification of acute and long-term cardiotoxicity risk of anthracyclines and increase in blood pressure with various cancer therapeutics remain to be elucidated. In this review, we cover the latest clinical data regarding the risk of hypertension across a spectrum of novel anticancer therapies as well as the underlying known or postulated pathophysiological mechanisms. Furthermore, we review the acute and long-term implications for the amplification of the development of cardiotoxicity with drugs not commonly associated with hypertension such as anthracyclines. An outline of management strategies, including pharmacological and lifestyle interventions as well as models of care aimed to facilitate early detection and more timely management of hypertension in patients with cancer and survivors concludes this review, which overall aims to improve both cardiovascular and cancer-specific outcomes.

Abstract
PURPOSE Comorbidities can further challenge prognosis and general wellbeing of cancer patients. This study aimed to assess the association between comorbidities and perceived health status (PHS) of US persons with cancer. METHODS This cross-sectional study used 2019 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) data and included individuals who were alive throughout the year, aged 18 to 84 years, and had diagnosis for cancer. Using adjusted logistic regression models, we estimated the association of comorbidities (no, few [1/2], and more [3 or more] comorbidities) with PHS. Analyses accounted for the complex design of MEPS. RESULTS The dataset included 28,512 participants, 1739 of which were eligible for the study. Of these, 11.16% (95% CI 9.64, 12.59%); 41.73% (95% CI 39.21, 43.96%); and 47.10% (95% CI 44.86, 49.73%) reported having no, few, and more comorbidities, respectively. While breast (N = 356), prostate (N = 276), and melanoma (N = 273) were the most common cancers, hypertension (88.3%), hypercholesterolemia (49.5%), and arthritis (48%) were the most prevalent comorbidities. Adjusted logistic regression showed that, compared with those with no comorbidities, persons with few and more comorbidities had 1.58 (95% CI = 0.79, 3.15) and 2.27 (95% CI = 1.19, 4.32) times greater odds of poor PHS. Younger or male patients, those with less formal education, low-income, pain, functional limitation, or poor perception of mental health were more likely to regard their health as poor. CONCLUSION About 88% of persons with history of cancer in the USA aged 18-84 years reported at least one comorbidity. Having more comorbidities, along with several other variables, was associated with poor PHS. Comorbidities management must be given special consideration to improve the prognosis and general wellbeing of persons with cancer.

Abstract
Obesity is an established risk factor for several human cancers. Given the association between excess body weight and cancer, the increasing rates of obesity worldwide are worrisome. A variety of obesity-related factors has been implicated in cancer initiation, progression, and response to therapy. These factors include circulating nutritional factors, hormones, and cytokines, causing hyperinsulinemia, inflammation, and adipose tissue dysfunction. The impact of these conditions on cancer development and progression has been the focus of extensive literature. In this review, we concentrate on processes that can link obesity and cancer, and which provide a novel perspective: extracellular matrix remodeling, angiogenesis, and adrenergic signaling. We describe molecular mechanisms involved in these processes, which represent putative targets for intervention. Liver, pancreas, and breast cancers were chosen as exemplary disease models. In view of the expanding epidemic of obesity, a better understanding of the tumorigenic process in obese individuals might lead to more effective treatments and preventive measures.

Abstract
Patients with cancer are now living longer than ever before due to the growth and expansion of highly effective antineoplastic therapies. Many of these patients face additional health challenges, of which cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading contributor to morbidity and mortality. CVD and cancer share common biological mechanisms and risk factors, including lipid abnormalities. A better understanding of the relationship between lipid metabolism and cancer can reveal strategies for cancer prevention and CVD risk reduction. Several anticancer treatments adversely affect lipid levels, increasing triglycerides and/or LDL-cholesterol. The traditional CVD risk assessment tools do not include cancer-specific parameters and may underestimate the true long-term CVD risk in this patient population. Statins are the mainstay of therapy in both primary and secondary CVD prevention. The role of non-statin therapies, including ezetimibe, PCSK9 inhibitors, bempedoic acid and icosapent ethyl in the management of lipid disorders in patients with cancer remains largely unknown. A contemporary cancer patient needs a personalized comprehensive cardiovascular assessment, management of lipid abnormalities, and prevention of late CVD to achieve optimal overall outcomes.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases and cancer are the leading cause of death worldwide. The two diseases share high co-prevalence and affect each other’s outcomes. Recent studies suggest that heart failure promotes cancer progression, although the question of whether cardiac remodeling in the absence of cardiac contractile dysfunction promotes cancer progression remains unanswered. Here, we aimed to examine whether mild cardiac remodeling can promote tumor growth. We used low-phenylephrine (PE)-dose-infused in mice, together with breast cancer cells (polyoma middle T, PyMT), implanted in the mammary fat pad. Although cardiac remodeling, hypertrophy and fibrosis gene hallmarks were identified, echocardiography indicated no apparent loss of cardiac function. Nevertheless, in PE-infused mouse models, PyMT-cell-derived tumors grew larger and displayed increased cell proliferation. Consistently, serum derived from PE-infused mice resulted in increased cancer cell proliferation in vitro. ELISA and gene expression analysis identified periostin, fibronectin and CTGF as cardiac- and tumor-secreted factors that are highly abundant in PE-infused mice serum as compared with non-infused mice. Collectively, a low dose of PE infusion without the deterioration of cardiac function is sufficient to promote cancer progression. Hence, early detection and treatment of hypertension in healthy and cancer patients would be beneficial for improved outcomes.

Abstract
Arterial hypertension is a risk factor for several pathologies, mainly including cardio-cerebrovascular diseases, which rank as leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Arterial hypertension also constitutes a fundamental component of the metabolic syndrome. Helicobacter pylori infection is one of the most common types of chronic infection globally and displays a plethora of both gastric and extragastric effects. Among other entities, Helicobacter pylori has been implicated in the pathogenesis of the metabolic syndrome. Within this review, we illustrate the current state-of-the-art evidence, which may link several components of the Helicobacter pylori-related metabolic syndrome, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and arterial hypertension. In particular, current knowledge of how Helicobacter pylori exerts its virulence through dietary, inflammatory and metabolic pathways will be discussed. Although there is still no causative link between these entities, the emerging evidence from both basic and clinical research supports the proposal that several components of the Helicobacter pylori infection-related metabolic syndrome present an important risk factor in the development of arterial hypertension. The triad of Helicobacter pylori infection, the metabolic syndrome, and hypertension represents a crucial worldwide health problem on a pandemic scale with high morbidity and mortality, like COVID-19, thereby requiring awareness and appropriate management on a global scale.
